For anyone the least bit interested in history or politics this is a must see destination. The Ancient Agora is where democracy first began and this is well explained in the information boards and in the Agora museum. There are marvelous plans and drawings and information that give you a real sense of what this must have all been like in ancient times. It is also nowhere near as busy as the Acropolis and is part of the joint ticket.

The formality of the changing of the guard ceremony, as well as the unique uniforms worn by the Presidential Guard, justifiably make this place a popular attraction for visitors. While the regular ceremony takes place every hour on the hour round the clock, the main ceremony on Sundays and eleven o'clock is the one to catch if possible. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier memorial itself located at the base of the wall of the Hellenic Parliament building, the memorial features a bas-relief of a dying Greek soldier. The carving represents Greek soldiers that have died in the service of their country.

A beautiful ,peaceful place to visit - the main cemetery in Athens in ancient times and it is very easy to get a picture of its one time significance from the extensive ruins visitable here. There is a lovely little museum within the complex with lots of artifacts found in the excavations of the site, most notably the Marble Bull exhibited in the central courtyard. There are statues brought in from outside for preservation, grave markers, coins and ceramics. The real joy of this place though is just wandering around enjoying the serenity. There are marble altars, remnants of the city walls, the ruins of the old Dipylon entrance gate into Athens and most memorable, the warriors tombs.

A very nice and interesting district not far from the Acropolis and the city center. Small streets; rustic houses with nice gardens and small restaurants and cofee shops. The feeling is that it is a small village in the middle of a big town. it is like stroling in a greek island

Well, there is only one Acropolis so it deserves the 5-Star rating, is an amazing testament to the great abilities of the Ancient Athenian builders. The Acropolis was dedicated to the Greek gods - especially one in particular - Athena. You will be impressed by the grand entrance to the place. Wow, all of those marble stairs. You may want to get a detailed guidebook that shows you the history behind what statues, etc... were there at one time. To your right, as you walk up the stairs is the Temple to Athena Nike (victory) and to your left is the Erectus with is famous pillars. Views from the Acropolis are magnificent. Get here early - 8:00 and you will avoid the crowds.

The Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, also known as the Olympion, was built over several centuries starting in 174 BCE and only finally completed by Roman emperor Hadrian in 131 CE. It is one of the largest ever built in the ancient world. The temple is built in an open space of 250 x 130 m. temple suffered over the centuries and much of its material was re-used in other buildings so that today only 15 of the temple’s columns are still standing, 2 in the south-west corner and 13 at the south-east corner. One other column collapsed as recently as 1852 CE in a storm and now lies across the site with its column drums picturesquely spread along a perfect line.

The Temple of Hephaestus is (most likely) the best preserved Temple from Antiquity in Athens and in Greece in general. Although is visible from atop of Acropolis Hill, many people having seen the Parthenon Temple they don't give a second thought of visiting Hephaestus Temple as well. My opinion is that they are mistaken because: although Parthenon Temple is bigger in scale, Hephaestus Temple is better preserved. It is withing Ancient Agora area and is down the hill from Acropolis. It has also exit gates near Monastiraki.

While the monument on the top is not really worth the way up this hill, the view on the city and on the Acropolis definitely is. you also see to Piraeus and the seaside, actually all around in a 360° panorama. it will take you some 15 to 20 minutes to get up. make it in the late afternoon, when the light is the nicest.

The beach area was comfortable, modern, with lots of seating and chair service. It is clean and has shower facilities. The sea is clean, sandy and shallow and you can walk out quite a bit. There is a good restaurant and bar. The beach remains open till 8pm and loungers were €5 each with shade. It's not the most beautiful beach, but as a city beach it works very well. It's about half hour from Athens Centre and easy to access via the tram or bus.

Vouiagmeni is one of the best-organized beaches offering all types of beach facilities, it has an admission cost. Vouliagmeni Beach cost less during the week (Adults 4 Euros) this includes an umbrella and chase lounge. The Beach is clean, has a large expanse of water that children can wade in - note if you need to cross Poseidonos Avenue there is a pedestrian tunnel that goes under the road to the other side that is dotted with trendy cafes, bakeries and coffee shops. But well worth a day spent at well kept beaches and really lovely cafes!

Used to be a cave until the roof collapsed. Fed by a spring and sea water resulting in a calm, warm and peaceful environment. Small fish in masses live in the lake and they mass onto your feet and body to clean you when in the water. The average age is 50+ with families and everyone is enjoying the healthy spa scene and peace. The menu is comprehensive and food of good quality. Well worth chilling here versus yet another day on a beach somewhere.

Most probably the best sandy beach in Greece ! Relaxing and quite atmosphere ....not far away from Athens ! Beach entrance ticket is expensive (week price is cheaper 18 Euros than week-end 28 Εuros per person), especially if you plan to visit quite often during summer. You need to go early if you want to find a sunbed available. Acceptable food and drink service proposed by Friday's. You pay for the outstanding spot !

For many years now, it remains one of the most popular beaches in the suburbs of Athens. It is found 18km south of Athens in a lovely coastal location with huge tourist development. The homonymous beach is a known spot for the Athenians basically due to the well-organized coast. There are many cafeterias, taverns and beach bars lined at the beachfront offering to visitors the best service. The beach is fully organized with numerous umbrellas, sundecks and some hotels around. It is a residence area and the beach can be easily accessed by tram and bus from the centre of Athens.

:Legrena beach is found along the coastal road that leads to Cape Sounion. It is the last beach before reaching Sounion and some meters further lies the Temple of Poseidon. Legrena is located 60 km southeast of Athens and 3km west of Sounion. The long beach stretches for many meters surrounded by a protected cove with rocks. The water is very clean and sometimes cold. This beach is totally unorganized but clean and quite unspoilt. There are many taverns and cafeterias in the wider region, where you can enjoy a coffee or a delicious meal by the sea. Visitors arrive mostly during the summer weekends.

If you have any interest in traditional folk dancing, this evening is well worth the time and effort. Purchase tickets at the window on the street level, browse old cinema posters, then head upstairs to grab a snack/drink and choose your seat. The night I visited, there was an amazing lightning storm over the Acropolis! Such a great way to end a busy day of exploring Athens.

Visitors to Greece and Athens should know that "Cinema Paradiso" in Greece has long history and still keeps refreshing and very alive. Now, as far for Thission open air cinema, the only I've to say/repeat is that it has been rated as the best open air Cinema in the world!! ...And I can verify that it is true. Imagine that you seat in open air, in a marvelous setting, watching a movie with your snack and drinks and above all, having view to the lit Acropolis!

A nice place to shop at, a wide variety and most famous brands are available, some good deals can be found and time will pass without you noticing, your wallet will notice it but so what? That is the joy of shopping...

At roughly a kilometer long, Ermou Street might not be the most glamorous address in Athens but it seems to be a good place for friends, couples or families to stroll or hang out. The eastern end is almost an extension of Syntagma Square, and at least for several hundred meters, is an interesting mix of retail outlets (including good shoe shops and some well-known brands), coffee shops and some restaurants, and the occasional street snacks and entertainment. Head far enough west, and the retail options peter out, and the neighborhood appear much humbler. However, much as Ermou Street is geared towards retail therapy, the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea, located right in the middle of the street

Easily accessible (both metro and train station). Big parking space but expensive. Shops mostly for younger people. Crowded and noisy especially on Friday and Saturday. Many shops. You can find almost everything. Except the shops you can find the Village Cinemas on the top floor and also places to eat or drink.
