Kalalarga is the pedestrian area with many shops and restaurants - I really recommend a tavern of the same name Kalalarga which is at the beginning of the street, a minute away from my apartment. Brunches are highly recommended - for 50 kunas you can get a decent meal! You might not always get what's on the menu, because their offer changes daily depending on what fresh fish they get from the local fishermen. Book your table in advance!

Romana Cafe is an excellent place if you want to enjoy your coffee watching the world go by and indulge in an absolutely perfect selection of ice cream and cakes! Highly recommended! 5 stars! Try lemon cake, Makarana cake (our speciality); as for icecreams, they are all delicious although my favourites are sour cherry with yogurt and orange with cheese! With your morning coffee, try their marmalade and chocolate croissants!

Excellent restaurant - good value for money, friendly people, perfect view of the town and the mountain! Very pleasant, especially in hot summer nights when there's always a light breeze! I recommend brunches from 12 to 14 - good meals at reasonable prices. For 50 -60 kunas you can have a decent meal.

Situated in Brela, this restaurant is a must! Food's out of this world and so is the view of the sea and the islands! If you're without a car, they have a minibus to pick you up and drop you off whenever suits you! Don't miss it! My favourite dish is the black risotto! And semifreddo for the dessert! Booking in advance is imperative! If you decide to go, let me know and I can book a table for you. They open at 6pm.

Although opened only a couple of years ago, this restaurant has already managed to establish itself as one of the most interesting places on the gastronomy scene of Makarska. This is one of the restaurants with the longest tradition in Makarska. I can't remember the time when it wasn't here! It wouldn't still be working if the food wasn't really good. Although in the very centre of town, this restaurant of the same name as the square, is a peaceful spot where you can enjoy good homemade food. Decorated in a shabby chic style, it is a really pleasant place for an evening out. The owner's policy is "First come, first served!" Without this great grey mountain rising steeply from the coast, the experience of being in Makarska would be much less of a thrill! You can drive up there ( be careful, the road is narrow and winding) but the best way is to enjoy a good long hike! A word of caution - prepare well, wear strong hiking boots (not flip-flops like me when I was 19) , take plenty of water, a hat and sunscreen and set off at sunrise. There are agencies that organize tours of the mountain - feel free to contact me for more information!

A spectacular stone structure in front of St. Mark's Cathedral featuring three lions' heads spouting water from their mouths. The fountain dates from the time when the Venetians occupied this coast - the period in history mainly responsible for the romantic Baroque appearance of the older parts of Makarska. This statue was erected in 2006 to pay homage to the tourist on the centenary of tourism in the town. The statue is of a rather chic couple taking a stroll along the waterfront. You'll notice that the female tourist has a striking lustre to her right boob. Newly opened, just a minute away from my apartment, this place offers a fine selection of wines and other drinks. It could be a nice follow-up to a perfect dinner at the Kalalarga Tavern, which is just a metre away. It gets quite busy at night with people sitting on the stone wall, sipping their drinks and chatting leisurely.

Favourite place for the locals - both in the morning for a coffee or at night for a fine selection of beers. You can't miss it - it's at the very end of the seafront!

Shopping

Konzum Supermarket, Muller cosmetics and toiletries, sports equipment, shoe shop, children's clothes, accessories - although tiny compared to other shopping malls in big cities, this one is nice and cosy!

Just off the main beach there's a street market with stalls offering clothes, beachwear, souvenirs and much more. Also, there you can grab a quick lunch or snack in many small restaurants, have a coffee, cold drink or ice cream while spending the whole day on the beach.

A corner shop just a minute away from the apartment, down the street and to the right - you will see the sign DMD. Very near is the baker's Lipo & Friško, and another shop which sells delicious Dalmatian smoked ham - highly recommended!
