Sightseeing

Kynance Cove is the nearest and most spectacular beach. Go right on the main road, towards The Lizard about 1.5 miles. Turn right at the signpost and follow the narrow road to the National Trust car park. Check tide times as the beach disappears when the tide comes in and the far beach gets cut off quite quickly. There is a café above the beach. It is possible to walk across the downs from the chalet site to Kynance Cove. The gate to the left of the private house leads to the bird sanctuary and on to the downs.

Kennack Sands is another spectacular beach and good for body boarding. There are several cafes, toilets, car park and cliff walks. Go right on the main road, then left soon after (signposted). There are two beaches and the far beach allows dogs. It gets cut off as the tide comes in, but it is easy to walk back on the cliff path.

The nature reserve is behind the chalet site. Go through the wooden gate to the left of the private house on to the board walk. This will lead you straight on to the heathland with its walks, pools and a footpath across the downs to Kynance Cove and cliff walks.

Where to shop and get provisions.

There are several shops at The Lizard, including a General Store, a Post Office (where you can withdraw cash), a Deli and Ann’s Pasties. Get pasties before 1pm or phone up to order in advance. Both Ruan Minor and Mullion have well stocked general stores. There is a chemist in Mullion. There is a large Tesco and Sainsbury on the outskirts of Helston and Helston is a thriving town with a range of shops.
