It borders a section of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, a marshy area once popular for peat and reed harvesting. Monnickendam in North Holland is officially called a city because it has city rights, but it looks like a cozy village. It is not that big. What makes this such a special village is the location: located on the Gouwzee, part of the Markermeer. It is not only a nice place to walk through, but also to go on the water here! Rent a boat, go sailing, eat a fish and stroll through the village. That will be a very nice day out!

The village of Lemmer is located exactly on the edge of Friesland and Flevoland (but in Friesland). It is also called 'the gate of Friesland'. Lemmer is beautifully situated on the IJsselmeer and is therefore, especially in the summer, a wonderful place for a day trip. It is also an old village, history goes way back, and you can see that in the streets with beautiful old architecture. You can stroll through the small street (there are quite a few nice shops) or enjoy socializing in the port of Lemmer.

Every year they set out a beautiful route along the bulb fields. With a kind of visitor center with small bulb fields and staff for information. And of course to buy bulbs. a real tourist and local attraction, nice to do by car or bike.
