Moderna Museet is Stockholm’s modern-art maverick, its permanent collection ranging from paintings and sculptures to photography, video art and installations. Highlights include work by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí (The Enigma of William Tell ), Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Robert Rauschenberg (Monograph , affectionately known as 'the goat in a tire'). There are important pieces by Francis Bacon, Marcel Duchamp and Matisse, as well as their Scandinavian contemporaries, and plenty of work by not yet household names.

The world’s first open-air museum, Skansen was founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius to give visitors an insight into how Swedes lived once upon a time. You could easily spend a day here and still not see it all (note that prices and hours vary seasonally). Around 150 traditional houses and other exhibits from across the country dot the hilltop – it’s meant to be ‘Sweden in miniature’, complete with villages, nature, commerce and industry.

A good-humoured glorification of some dodgy calculations, Vasamuseet is the custom-built home of the massive warship Vasa . The ship, a whopping 69m long and 48.8m tall, was the pride of the Swedish crown when it set off on its maiden voyage on 10 August 1628. Within minutes, the top-heavy vessel tipped and sank to the bottom of Saltsjön, along with many of the people on board. Guided tours are in English every 30 minutes in summer.

The epic Nordiska Museet is Sweden’s largest cultural-history museum and one of its largest indoor spaces. The building itself (from 1907) is an eclectic, Renaissance-style castle designed by Isak Gustav Clason, who also drew up Östermalms Saluhall. Inside you’ll find a sprawling collection of all things Swedish, from sacred Sami objects to fashion, shoes, home interiors and even table settings.

Food Scene

One of Stockholm's classic inner city bars. Don't miss the back bar 'Lilla Baren' for great DJ sets from every genre and silent films projected on the walls. The restaurant has amazing food. A bit pricey but great. Also great for people spotting. This is great for people between ages of 30-50. Lots of famous faces walking around.

This place is very unique. It has a restaurant, which I don't know much about. It looks expensive and high end. But part of it is a bar with hip hop music playing. On weekends the crowd is between 18-25 and dresses very hipster, despite it being located in Stureplan where people typically dress up a lot.

Here there is a bar called Bar Hommage. Their online marketing game is poor so you can't find it in Maps, but go to this address and try some of their cocktails. They are all inspired and the bartender will explain how they came up with the idea for the cocktail. Expensive but just do it, it is worth it.

A small public square in Gamla Stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. It is the oldest square in Stockholm, the historical centre on which the medieval urban conglomeration gradually came into being. Today, the square is frequented by tens of thousands of tourists annually, and is occasionally the scene for demonstrations and performances. It is traditionally renowned for its annual Christmas market offering traditional handicrafts and food.
