Food Scene

Friday nights are the best nights for Oistins. It is a fish market that has evolved into a social gathering of tourists and locals, filled with music and food. You can go to Oistins any night or day and find a good fresh meal (especially fish) at one of the many vendors. Check out the fish cakes at Legendary Fish Cakes, a local favorite. Along with the food vendors, there are craft vendors towards the back near the ocean. Enjoy some of the freshest fish you've ever eaten at the oceanside.

Essentials

Dover market has everything you forgot to bring. It will cost a bit more than the grocery store but it is close and convenient. They have a hot food counter which is good for a good quick hot meal if you get there before supply runs out. They cook once a day.

if you walk into the Time Out parking lot, the first shop along the ground floor is Trev's minimart. They do not have long hours but during the main part of the day you can get ice, cold drinks, snacks and essentials just feet from the house. Time out also has a taxi stand and a restaurant serving all meals and playing international sports events.

Getting Around

Easiest car rental is from Express on the corner. They give a discount for paying in US cash and have the most reasonable rates I've found in the area. You can make arrangements to return your car at the airport so you can drive yourself there on your departure day. They also provide driver's licenses and full insurance coverage. If your group is small I recommend the small air conditioned cars. They're best for getting around Barbados' small streets and tight parking.

Shopping

There is a shopping mall close by. It has a food court, Fed Ex, cellular phone company, health food store, hardware store, clothing stores, department stores and a movie theater. It is a good alternative to going to Bridgetown

Entertainment & Activities

The Boatyard is near town and has a daytime beach club. Guests pay an entry fee that they get back in food and drinks. Club has beach chairs and umbrellas, a rope swing, a trampoline and inflated iceberg for climbing in the ocean. You can also make arrangements for water activities like scuba diving and jetskiing. You can perhaps check out town in the morning and then end up here for lunch and afternoon relaxation. Call ahead to see if a cruise ship is expected. When ships are in, this place is crowded and a little more of a party.

Sightseeing

North Point presents a totally different view of Barbados from it's northern most point. The ocean meets the cliffs and create some of the most stunning views. You can go down into the caves and see the animal flowers (like venus fly traps that react when touched), and the cave formations and pools. bring water shoes or something similar. The cave can be slippery. Walk around the entire point as views on one side are different than the other. There is now a restaurant and sun deck at North Point so plan to make the trek and spend some time.
