There is a small but very good Urban Farmers Market at the Clive Square end of Emerson Street every Saturday morning between 9am and 1pm, well worth the 200 metre walk! Fresh eggs, veges, produce, bread, coffee and other eats. There is a bigger and well known Hawkes Bay Farmers market at the Hastings Showgrounds on Karamu Road, Hastings, every Sunday morning from 9.30am and 12.30pm.

Sightseeing

It is compulsory for everyone who stays at Chambers on Emerson to take a stroll up Emerson Street and check out the Marine Parade! Make sure you head north and wander out on to the Pier for great views to Mahia looking north and Cape Kidnappers to the South. Walk through the sunken gardens then continue south past Bay Skate and check out the recent developments and plantings.

Parks & Nature

If you are keen for a challenge head up the hill through Tiffen Park and explore Bluff Hill. There is a walking track off Lighthouse Road that leads up to the Bluff Hill lookout and then continues down through Storm Gully towards the Port so you can do a circuit back to Emerson Street. Takes about 1 hour.

Arts & Culture

Each year thousands to flock to Hawke’s Bay’s Art Deco Festival. Fox furs, boaters and beads are the order of the day, the roads are reclaimed by vintage vehicles, while jazz tunes serenade from street corners. Outside of the festival, Hawke’s Bay retains a strong Art Deco vibe thanks largely to the area's architecture which emerged following a devastating earthquake in 1931 which destroyed much of central Napier. Take a tour in a vintage car or hire a guide to show you the best examples of Art Deco buildings you’ll see anywhere. Napier Art Deco walking tours start from $25pp and leave at 10am, 11am, 2pm and 4.30pm and leave from the Art Deco Trust Building. Check out their website too!

Drinks & Nightlife

Where to begin! There are lots of options – organised tours, self-drive, bus or bike tours. Feel free to grab the wineries map on the hall table and have fun exploring. My top 5 are: oMission Estate, Taradale - historic, great views and home of the famous summer concert. oBlack Barn, Havelock North - great views, classic Andy Coltart architecture. oClearview, Te Awanga, relaxed alfresco food and a superb drive. oCrab Farm, Bayview – an easy bike ride and great cosy live music events. oTe Awa, SH50 – in the heart of Gimblett Gravels, great food and atmoshphere.
