Shopping
Very nice, upscale mall with so many great department stores, botiques, and so many options for dining. It is also home to the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra's Summer Pops series each June and several other various outdoor festivals.

I've listed this as a shopping mall, and it's a very large, fantastic mall. Concord Mills Mall is a nearly 1.4-million-square-foot shopping mall located in Concord, North Carolina. But it also has some great recreation, like Dave and Busters, and Go Karts! The Speedpark at Concord Mills offers racing entertainment for thrill seekers and race fans of all ages. Attractions include Go Karts, Mini Golf, Monster Truck rides, Spider Jump and Web.

Need even more places to shop? The Carolina Place Mall is another option. The Carolina Place Mall is located in Pineville, North Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte. The 1,200,000-square-foot mall, in the shape of a curve, is anchored by Sears, Belk, JCPenney, Dillard's, and Macy's. Here's a link: https://www.carolinaplace.com/en.html

Entertainment & Activities
If you like white water rafting, you'll love the US National Whitewater Center. It is the training center for several Olympic water sports. And it offers so many more activities as well. Hiking, biking, kyaking, rope challenge courses, zip lines, dining, live entertainment, and more.

Carowinds is a wonderful amusement park for the whole family. Throughout the park, you will find all sorts of rollercoasters, so unlike me if you love that kind of thing, you will be very happy here! There's also a section for the younger adventurous ones and for tiny tikes. Now, if you want a good scare, Carowinds becomes "Scarowinds" at night from mid-September through October. I hear from my son and his friends that this should not be missed!

This movie theater was recently renovated, and it is now called the Cinemark Bistro Charlotte, and also known as Carolina Cinemas. Talk about comfort! The cushy seats recline with foot rests, and with stadium seating every seat in the house has a great view of the screen, not to mention a sliding food tray and cup holder. When you purchase your tickets, you reserve your specific seats. (I'd recommend rows E, F, or G.) In addition to the typical movie food and beverages, this bistro has well over a dozen beers on tap, and hummus with pita, pizza, and so much more. The best part - every Tuesday, all day, $6 a ticket! Here's a link: http://www.cinemark.com/theatre-detail.aspx?node_id=867701&

I categorized the Children's Theatre of Charlotte as a Theatre, but it is really two-theatres-and-a-library! It's a wonderful library for children of all ages, with a separate loft area for teens. And the theatres are always featuring performances that are appropriate for the whole family. Now, if you're in Charlotte between late November and early December, you've got to take the kiddos to Santa's Bag. They will have a great time as they stroll around and shop for Christmas gifts. But be sure to check out their calendar of events at ctcharlotte.org.

Essentials
I find myself going to the Arboretum 3 or more times a week. It's home to Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond, PetCo, Barns and Noble, Harris Teeter (grocery store), GameStop, and so much more. And there are over 15 dining choices from fast food to sit-down restaurants. For more info, go to http://www.shoparboretum.com/

Now if you love real Mexican food, this is about as close as authentic as you're gonna get in the Charlotte area. There are several La Unica's in the Charlotte area. Two that I have dined at many times and can personally vouch for are: Indian Trail location - I flagged this one on the map because it's not as far. But the one in Monroe at 1621 Walkup Ave # F, Monroe is even more authentic - it's just further out.

In addition to suchi, this is home of some of the best burgers in town. It's also a nice place to kick back at the bar. Here's a blurb I took directly from their website: "Born of a desire to create a fun-loving environment that anyone can enjoy, The Cowfish is a come one, come all operation. Whether you've just finished a workout at the gym, or you're dressed to impress for a night out on the town, The Cowfish has an atmosphere to suit all walks of life. A bright interior featuring custom artwork and vibrant music, a saltwater aquarium filled with live cowfish, a sushi bar with interactive computer monitors that allow you to build your own sushi roll, and a huge covered patio are only some of the elements that make The Cowfish a memorable experience!"

I've been searching for a great brunch spot that's reasonably priced (not a-la-carte) in Charlotte since I moved here in 2000. I finally found it! I took my extended family (a party of 15) to the Heist Brewery for brunch one Sunday morning at around 11am. They have a fantastic assortment of foods - everything you see at the best brunch spots. It's hopping, so if you are with a group and want to sit together, get there close to opening at 10am. Here's a link to the brunch details: https://heistbrewery.com/brunch/
