Konoba (tavern) Jure is not located in the city center, but for food that offers worth to get away from the city noise. The atmosphere is casual and domestic, owner Jurica seems to be a friend of all his guests. Although Jurica often early in the morning selects the best fish that are prepared in the simplest traditional ways, I recommend this place for meat delicacies. You simply have to try the beefsteak tagliata, prosciutto, homemade sausage and homemade fries.

Located in the very heart of Rovinj, just below the church of Saint Euphemia, Monte is a restaurant that should not be left out from the itineraries of the haute cuisine lovers. A restaurant with a really impressive location in the old town, on the rocks of the Baluota beach below the church of Saint Euphemia. With its seafood and meat specialities, combination of modern and traditional local cuisine and its generous wine list, it earned a place among the best restaurants in Croatia. However, apart from the great food, you will always remember the unique experience of the waves breaking on the rocks beneath your feet. This is a very elegant place where you will not eat every day but where you need to be if you want to give your partner a moment of eternity.

North of Rovinj, about a 20 minute car-ride away, one of the most beautiful natural resources of the Istrian peninsula. The water in the bay is partly brackish, because of its underwater sources of sweet water and it is thus suitable for the growth of plant and animal life and it is also a well-known fish and oyster farm (oysters, mussels, giltheads, sea basses.). The bay surroundings are very interesting, the plant covering is lush and diverse, reaching from evergreen to deciduous trees, where various wild animals live, such as boars, fox, badgers, some roe deers and birds like hawks, buzzards, owls. Free climbing lovers will find a suitable cliff on the northern side.

Rovinj’s old town is a little gem waiting to be explored. It’s located on a small, hilly peninsula, full of narrow cobbled streets, Venetian-style houses, interesting courtyards, art galleris, cozy restaurants, and buzzing bars. The best views (and photos for instagram) of Rovinj can be had from the city’s port. From this perspective you can see those beautiful painted houses that crowd the waterfront, and the marvellous campanile of St. Euphemia behind them. Turn seawards and you’ll witness a working port in action, with fishers setting out or coming home, or mending nets on the jetty. There’s surely no better place in the city to while away a couple of hours on a sunny day!

Batana is a traditional small fishing boat from Rovinj. It’s a 4.5-8 m long wooden boat with flat bottom, and a sail. Today, very few people go fishing in batana. Instead, people of Rovinj try to preserve batana, as a true symbol of Rovinj. In such an effort, few years ago local museum House of Batana, started offering a program to visitors that includes a ride in a traditional batana around Rovinj’s old town at dawn, and a traditional dinner in Rovinj’s spacio Matika (tavern in a local dialect). It’s a nice experience, and we highly recommend it.
