Traveler advice
Don't miss
Don't miss our Saturday evening soirees!
On some Saturday evenings, when the weather is nice, we gather by the cowboy cauldron or "The Maple Room" around 5:30pm in the winter or 6:30pm in the summer to share a beverage and some nibbles. This is a "bring your own" arrangement, but people usually share what they bring. Please be sure to let us know if you are planning to attend!
Don't miss
Piedmont Train Station Antiques
This is a place you want to check out for antiques! Located down the road from us in Delaplane, the original Piedmont Train station dates back to the Civil War and has a huge selection of antiques.
What to pack
Bring your hiking clothes!
Not only do we have trails right here on the farm, but we are located just a few minutes from the Virginia State Arboretum, Sky Meadows State Park, and the Appalachian Trail.
Many of our trails on the farm are relatively flat and comfortable. If you're looking for a more strenuous challenge, try the Outer Loop trail, or the trail to the top of Mount Brushy! Reach out to Dendy for recommendations and directions.
Customs and culture
Gate Etiquette
Since we have live animals in our pastures, we are very sensitive to gates. The easy rule is, if you go through a closed gate, please close it behind you. If it is already open, you can leave it open. It is important to know which animals are in a pasture: if they are bulls, we recommend you stay out! Please check with us, and we will let you know which pastures to stay out of. The other animals on the farm, including turkeys, pigs, sheep, and cattle, are very docile and unlikely to bother you unless you bother them. However, all dogs are REQUIRED to be ON LEASH in closed pastures.

Ways to save
Cabin Cooking
Each of our cabins has a kitchen in which you can make light meals. There is also an outdoor grill and separate, shared full kitchen in the farm office which are available to you if you would like to make something more sophisticated. since our meat and produce options change seasonally, visit the Locasaur app (www.locasaur.com/hiddencreekfarm) to view our available products prior to your arrival or during so you can take products home with you! All orders must be requested at least 72-hours prior to your arrival. We are currently unable to fill orders on Saturdays and Sundays.
Customs and culture
Bugs on the farm
This is a farm and sometimes we have bugs, but we do everything we can to keep the cabins bug free! sometimes we get flies and the only solution is a fly swatter. Sometimes we have Asian shield Bugs (or stink bugs), an invasive species which appeared in the US first in Allentown, PA in 1998. The best solution is one small drop of dish soap in a glass, fill the glass to quarter full, and put the bugs in the glass. You can also ask Dendy for help! Thanks to the barn swallows, we seldom see (or feel) mosquitoes.
Customs and culture
Septic Field
Our property is dependent upon septic fields for the disposal of personal waste. Please do not deposit anything in the toilet that is not completely biodegradable!

PLEASE READ - Livestock Guardian Dogs ON DUTY
Mosby and Ranger, our large, white, Maremma guardian dogs, are outdoor dogs. They are similar to Great Pyrenees, but originate in the Italian Alps. They are our "protection dogs" and they live outdoors in the winter cold and the summer heat. You can often hear them barking and howling in the middle of the night. It means that they are teamed up and protecting the farm from coywolf, bears, and foxes, etc. They are fierce if they don't know you, but friendly and playful when they do. It is important to always greet them. Call us when you arrive so we can introduce you! Our number is on the gate.
Customs and culture
Bringing your dog too? Great!
We love dogs! We have three on the property. You are welcome to bring yours :)
If you bring your own dog, it MUST be controlled and well-behaved or be on a leash. Your dog is NOT permitted to chase any of the livestock. If your dog kills, say a chicken, please understand that you must pay for the chicken. Please note that there is a pet fee of $50 for up to 2 dogs (paid at check-in) to cover the extra cleaning costs. Additional dogs are $25 each.

Farm Experiences
There are no obligations: you can sit back and relax or roll up your sleeves and get some dirt on your hands! A highlight of your stay here will be a tour of the property. Andrea or Dendy will take you for a ride in the mule and show you the various animals in all the pastures and explain what we are doing, why, and how it all fits together. Just text Andrea and work out a time when it is mutually convenient. You won't want to miss it!
What to pack
Bring your swimsuit! Pool and Hot Tub available
Our pool and hot tub are generally available between May and October. In season, we have a plunge pool which is available for you to cool off in and a hot tub in which to warm up. Pool towels are available from Andrea if you need them. The hot tub does need to be coordinated so that we can make sure that it is the right temperature when you need it, and the pool cover needs to be closed up to ensure no children fall into it - we can show you how to do this. We have an outdoor grill for barbecuing and a cowboy cauldron to sit around on a cool evening with a fire and enjoy yourselves.
