The Benton Falls Trail is an easy 1.5 mile (each way) hike to the 65 foot high waterfall. It is just under 14 miles from us and is just under a 30 minute drive. It is a nice easy hike that can be enjoyed by the whole family. There is also a lake that is right near the parking area that is a great place to swim or hang out and picnic with the family. They also have some mountain bike trails there and you can take an easy ride around the lake with the family or hit some of the other trails there as well. I recommend downloading the AllTrails app to your smart phone. It is a free app and will provide you with directions, trail map, and a trail description. This is a fantastic waterfall hike that is only 8 miles or about 12 minutes from us. Please be aware that there are a few creek crossings on this hike and depending on the water level you may get your shoes wet. Sometimes you can rock hop, but may want to bring and extra pair of shoes or be prepared to have wet feet. It is approximately a 1.7 mile hike to the falls, so round trip is 3.4 miles. After reaching the first set of falls, take a trail to the left and up a steep hill for a short walk to the second set of falls. There is a nice swimming hole at the second set of falls, but it is a little steep getting to the second set of falls. Getting to the first set of falls is easy and is a family friendly hike that could easily be done with kids. I recommend downloading the AllTrails app to your smart phone. Jacks River Trail to Beech Bottom is in an absolutely gorgeous area with some stunning waterfalls. This is a very remote area with an abundance of wildlife. It is 21 miles from here, but takes right at an hour to get there. The last portion of the drive is all dirt roads and is slow going. Not the best road and a little rough in some places, but I can make it in my Prius if I dodge the rocks correctly. A SUV or truck would be more ideal for this one, but is manageable in a car if you are careful. Also, the trail is not clearly marked at all times and can be confusing, so I would definitely recommend printing or downloading a copy of the map to your phone. There are several creek crossings on this trail, so I would recommend bringing a pair of sandals or something to wear when crossing to not get your hiking boots wet. is a 14.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Epworth, Georgia that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. For first time snorkelers, the abundant aquatic life on the Conasauga River is a great place to start. This is 18.3 miles from us or a 38 minute drive. Near the Georgia-Tennessee state line is a premier snorkeling area known as the Conasauga Snorkel Hole. Several thousand fish will be present on any given day. The experience is like swimming in an aquarium full of fish. Turtles, tadpoles and salamanders are all usually present. Freshwater drum as large as 6 pounds swim in schools in the deep pools; sporting fish, such as bass and bream, are seen in their natural habitats. Colorful darters and shiners may be seen spawning and feeding. Remember, enjoy the wildlife but do not harm them or take them home with you. The Conasauga Watershed contains 76 native fish- more than the Columbia Watershed and Colorado Watershed combined! The ancient age of the Southern Appalachian Mountains has enabled aquatic species in small watersheds to attain extreme levels of diversity compared to the much larger western watersheds. Salamanders, mussels, snails, crayfish and other invertebrates show similar levels of diversity to fish.

Seven-acre McKamy Lake offers a swim area with a sand beach, and fishing from the bank. Boats are allowed, but gasoline motors are not. Also, within the recreation area are approximately 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, and a scenic waterfall. On the drive up to the campground, stop at one of the many observation overlooks to see beautiful mountain settings. Wildlife is abundant in this area, so have your camera ready and tread lightly. Encompassing more than 20 miles of trails, the Chilhowee Trail System stretches from Parksville Campground at the bottom of the mountain to Chilhowee Recreation Area at the top. Because of the change in elevation (from about 600 feet to over 2000 feet) this trail system offers some challenges to both the mountain biker and the hiker. Many of the trails either cross or pass near Clear Creek which tumbles off the mountain in cascades and water falls all along its length. Trails in the Chilhowee Recreation Area offer more moderate hikes around a seven-acre lake or winding through the campground loops.

The Tennessee Aquarium is located in Chattanooga, TN and is a 53 minute drive from us. Dive into two worlds of wonder and excitement at the top-rated aquarium in America. Begin with the freshwater exhibits in the River Journey building. The adventure continues with the Ocean Journey building. Experience two aquariums in one great city — Chattanooga. Along the way, you'll have opportunities to come face-to-face with feisty otters, enormous Arapaima giant catfish, and tons of turtles. You can also touch a sturgeon. Enjoy playful penguins, touch a stingray, and marvel at toothy sharks, lemurs, and butterflies. Plan on spending at least three hours to enjoy observing and learning about all of the Aquarium's diverse gathering of animals.

Traveler advice

Don't miss

Ocoee River whitewater rafting is a must do while here!

The Ocoee River was the site for the 1996 whitewater Olympic events and has action packed class 3-4 rapids. It is one of the top whitewater destinations in the entire country. We offer rafting trips March through October. We have all senior guides that average 10+ years experience and can cater the trip to your liking. We can keep it mild or wild or anything in-between.
What to pack

Bring your boat, kayak, canoe, mountain bike, etc.

The Ocoee River area is the premier outdoor activity destination in the Southeast. We have world class whitewater rafting, awesome mountain biking trails, Parksville Lake for boating, and many spectacular waterfall hikes nearby. Bring your boat, kayak, canoe, mountain bike, snorkel, fishing pole, raft, or anything else you can think of for outdoor fun. Our property sits on 26 acres, so we have plenty of room to park your boat or store your gear. If you don't want to bring the gear with you we can help with that as well. We can tell you the best places for renting gear locally.
