This is one of those restaurants that always seems to have a Groupon available. In the past, I spent $10 and got $20 worth of food. In fact, this is the only reason I even tried this little whole in the wall. However, it's incredibly close to my house, and it surprised me by having a good selection of Thai food that can be made to order mild or spicy. My favorite appetizer is the Thai style crab rangoon. They're actually made with imitation crab meat, but at $5.25 it's amazing! The Tom Kah Gai soup has the perfect mix of ginger, lemongrass, and mushrooms in a coconut milk base. I've tried several of the entrees and loved every one. So far, my favorite is General Tso's Chicken.

If you get there during happy hour, you can find some great specials. Otherwise, the prices are steep. I've never had a meal that wasn't absolutely mouth watering. You can sit at the bar to hang out with a friend, or have a more intimate dinner in the dimly lit side rooms. It's definitely an upscale place to go for dinner.

If you're looking for inexpensive Mexican food that will really fill you up, Chipotle is the place to go. You can choose from burritos, tacos, bowls, and various sides. If you call ahead- you can even walk right up to the counter and get your food quickly when you're on the go!

Everything in this tiny restaurant is not only delicious, it's good for you, too! They use fresh, healthy ingredients to make creative dishes. I'd never seen" bacon" made out of coconut before I tried their salads, but I was pleasantly surprised to say they were pretty close to the real thing. The prices are a little higher than average, but you're paying for truly good quality food.

The burgers are greasy, and your milkshake is extra thick. You're going to feel like you went back in time to an old diner, but the special thing about this little restaurant is the fact that you get to order by the old fashioned phone at your table, and then your food is delivered by a little train that circulates up above all the guests. It's a fan favorite with kids :)

Drinks & Nightlife
When you go to the Plaza, you've got such an amazing variety of places you can visit. Feel like shopping? They've probably got a specialty shop with exactly what you are looking for. Hungry? There are multiple restaurants. They range from affordable to VERY pricey. It's nice to have both options depending on your special occasion. And of course- there are lots of hip bars/clubs where you can relax and have an adult beverage. If you check the weekly specials, many places have live music! The Plaza is the perfect place to meet friends to hang out and have a fun night out!

The first Friday of each month, it's fun to go down to the Crossroads. There are multiple venders selling art, crafts, and food. There are musicians on different corners, and most of the art galleries have free wine tastings. It's such an interesting night out! During the day, there are several unique shops and restaurants you can go, even if you want to bring along the kiddos!

Entertainment & Activities
Union Station was recently honored with four prestigious awards through the Visit KC Visitors' Choice Awards: "Best of KC," "Favorite Historic Attraction," "Favorite Landmark," and Science City (an interactive attraction for kids) was recognized as "Favorite Family-Friendly Attraction," for the second year! There is a 3D movie theatre, a planetarium, and they have a special train section. Kids can watch miniature trains, play in a special space just for kids, and even ride on Santa's little train during the holidays. The restaurants are simply delicious. Plan to pay a hefty fee for parking, but if you do choose to eat at one of the restaurants, they will give you validation!

Home of the Kansas City Royals, this stadium is the perfect place to spend a summer afternoon. They even have a huge section devoted to entertaining little ones with a free park! General admission tickets can be inexpensive, but plan to pay $$ for parking.

You can make an entire day out of this gigantic zoo! In fact, it's so large that I'd recommend you do the add on package where you get the Train, Tram, Sky Safari, Boat, and Carousel for only $10 extra per person. It's about the only way you will have the energy to traverse the whole zoo and see all of the many exhibits.

The specific exhibit being highlighted changes monthly, but Prairie Fire has some neat exhibits for the whole family to enjoy. As a bonus, it's surrounded by adorable shops and lots of restaurants. There's even a large theater and a bowling alley and bocce ball location on the same the block.

Everything Else
Downtown Overland Park has recently been renovated, and it looks amazing. You can find many restaurants, shops, and services. If it's summer time, every Saturday morning they hold a huge Farmer's Market with crazy cheap produce and flowers. It's fun to walk through and listen to the live music. There are bars, restaurants, bakeries, and a delicious pizza shop called Papa Keno's. The third Friday of each month, they have a big event where shops have special sales and sometimes offer drinks for sampling. It's a great time to people watch!

Essentials
Hy-Vee is a short drive from my home, and it is conveniently open 24 hours a day. They have the usual grocery store variety of food, and they also have a section for healthy/ organic products. Prices are really reasonable. Hy-Vee also has a gas station on location. Even if you don't live here, I recommend getting a fuel saver card. When you buy items that happen to be on their special fuel saver list that week, you earn money off your gas! I tend to buy most of our items in the organic section, and they have a special deal where you earn fuel saver rewards just for making your organic purchases on Wednesdays. I filled up this weekend and only paid $1.20 per gallon due to my savings!

If you want to be sure you are only buying completely organic products, this is the closest place to go. They have a wide variety of produce and other essentials. I think the prices are more reasonable of some other stores who focus on selling healthy food.

Aldi's has a quickly changing selection, but it's all crazy inexpensive. You can get food, essentials, and even household storage items in the middle aisles. It's a surprise selection each time I visit.

Getting Around
If you don't want to drive, just call for an Uber! Typically the prices are super reasonable, and there is always a driver near my house. I like to use this option if I know I may have a drink or two with dinner and I don't want to risk driving illegally. I've always had positive experiences when I use Uber, and for me it has always felt safe. Make sure you download the app and enter your credit card information prior to scheduling a ride. You'll be sent a description of the make and model of your driver's car so you will be sure you're being picked up by the correct person.
