Our favorite restaurants
So we are not fancy dining folks but rather enjoy good food and service at reasonable prices.
We just love this place for dinner and the space is beautiful! The food is always good and make sure you ask about the specials. Ask for Gabriel and he will take great care of you (really nice guy and speaks English). Make sure you make time to tour the artist spaces on the second floor. The prices are really good compared to similar places closer to the beach. This place is always our "treat night out". We especially love the Casandra Shaw booth.

So where else can you get four margaritas and breakfast/lunch for under 400 pesos? Claudette, Tanya, Miguel and Yolonda are great people who work here and will take very good care of you! Oliver is a fantastic cook, do not be afraid to ask for something not on the menu. This place is a locals hangout and not so great on atmosphere but makes up for it with good food, great prices (happy hour till 5pm) and lively conversation.

One of our guests favorite places. It is also Air-Conditioned. They make all of their breads fresh. Only open for lunch and breakfast. They have an Espresso Bar but no alcohol. It is also cash only. Everyone raves about the French Toast.

Just a few blocks from our home and off the "tourist path". Wonderful dinners with an italian flair but not limited to just Italian food. Service is always friendly and good and prices are very reasonable. We walked by this place so many times and so glad we finally stopped in and had dinner.

Save this place for a special dinner treat! Make reservations early for a spectacular sunset dinner on the beach. You will find incredible food, great service and just a beautiful space. Sit with your feet in the sand and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. So not going to be a "cheap meal" but will be well worth it (very romantic). They are also open for breakfast and lunch but we just like stopping by the bar for some shade and a great margarita! If you sit at the bar be sure to ask for Juan, Tito or Cesar. Tell them Tom and Chuck from Casa Tamarindo sent you. Also, do not be afraid to ask them what they are making, many times they will let you taste. :)

One of the best Asian restaurants in PV and one of our very favorite places to eat! Food and service are always good here and it can have a long wait (they don't take reservations but you can put your name on the list once you arrive - plenty of places to sit outside, grab a drink and wait). You're going to spend a little more here but well worth it!

If you are looking for somewhere to watch the game, this is a great place. Sean the owner has assembled a great staff, besides the fact he is also from Austin. Adrianna, Rosanna, Romy, Phillipie and Tammy all do an excellent job making sure you are well taken care of. Also, there can sometimes be impromptu jazz sessions (Sean the owner has a Jazz Band and they play on Friday nights during the season) that are fun. There is a small theatre above Nacho Daddies with great local talent.

This is one of the 1st restaurants we went to in Puerto Vallarta many years ago. It is a beautiful space that is outdoors but from the front of the restaurant lookin in, you would not know. Ask for Santiago and tell him Chuck and Tom from Casa Tamarindo sent you, he has been taking care of us for years and he will treat you right. The food is very good as well.

The place has a mix of modern eclectic elements in the decor and ancient symbolism. Its ambience reflect the local hospitality with a European Riviera atmosphere. The Sunsets are beautiful from here. We almost always order the 1/2 portion of the Greek Salad or the Cesar Salad and add chicken. They both are delicious.

This is the ONLY place we have found in PV that is true Tex-Mex. We love their salsa, it reminds us so much of Austin. You can walk but we would recommend an Uber. If you are looking to walk, let us know and we will give you a shortcut. At night, the mariachi band is excellent and we promise you that you will be singing along. Watch out for the house margarita as they are strong.

Grocery Stores & Markets
Local grocery shopping options
Search for Mercado Emiliano Zapata, Lázaro Cárdenas SN-C, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta for directions. Great open air traditional Mexican market! It's just a short walk to find fresh local produce, meats, spices and everything else you need to create a great meal. Knowing some Spanish will help you here but a nice smile and being humble will go a long way here. Take a break from the traditional grocery store experience and visit these folks (its great to bring small change and a bag with you).

Wine & martini bar with great local music (music starts about 10:30pm most nights)! Ask for German (owner) and he will take very good care of you. Lots of locals sitting at the bar that will gladly help you with any PV questions and recommendations. We like this place because you can just relax and chill before or after dinner. Huge beach club with DJ/music, pool, food and bar service. Entrance prices vary depending on season and events but prices will include beach chair, umbrella and towel. It's worth a visit for “people watching” but watch your bar tab. We and number of friends have been overcharged more than once here. Large LGBT crowd but lots of our straight fiends go here as well. Incanto Vallarta takes its name from the charming and elegant setting along the Rio Cuale that divides old town from Centro in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Incanto features an eclectic offering of world-class entertainment in both the lower level 90 seat cabaret/theatre, and in the intimate piano bar space on the second floor. Classic cocktails and delicious offerings from their cafe will make Incanto a destination where you’ll want to linger well before and after the show; especially on one of the two riverside terraces. Great new spot (March 2020) located on the 2nd floor above the Los Arcos Hotel. You will see the steps up to the bar on the Calle Manuel side just off the beach. We have not had dinner here but LOVE the space and sunsets sitting at the bar - it has the feel of a "W Hotel" lobby. Prices seem fair for the view and how well done the space was built out.
