Surf & Paddle in California

Modern surfing may have been born in Hawaii, but it was California that took surf culture mainstream. From bikinis and boardshorts to the reverb-soaked guitars of surf rock, beach culture exploded in Los Angeles in the 1950s and today the city's home to the World Surf League. But you don’t have to stick to sunny Southern California—with a coastline that stretches nearly 900 miles, you can catch waves all the way up the scenic Pacific Coast Highway.
