Unplug, unwind, restore your senses at Clara's Cottage, a romantic, private, quiet garden retreat on the spectacular Mendocino Coast.
Clara's Cottage is located in Inglenook on several acres, just 10 minutes north of Fort Bragg in a unique microclimate with very little fog, tucked behind the MacKerricher dunes. Access to the dunes and MacKerricher State Beach is located at the end of our private lane. There is a well-equipped kitchenette for light food preparation. A Weber charcoal BBQ is available for use off the outside patio area. Clara’s Cottage has an indoor 1/2 bath and an outdoor claw foot tub/shower located in a serene and private garden setting (think hot tub, hot springs ambiance). Owners reside on the property and greet guests personally and enjoy making recommendations for restaurants, activities, hikes, etc. There are abundant opportunities for hiking, bird watching and beach-combing nearby. The cottage is equipped with excellent hiking and bicycling guidebooks. The cottage has no TV, phone or WIFI. Cell phone reception is spotty on the coast; internet cafes are located in town. NO PETS, NO SMOKING. Nightly rate includes 11% county bed tax. Guests are expected to have a high regard for personal property and leave the cottage in the condition it was found - there is no additional cleaning fee. There is a refundable security deposit. Check-in time is 3pm - 10pm; check-out is 11am.
  • Arriving at Clara's cottage was a wonderful experience. Ed and Tenaya greeted us with a warm heartfelt welcome. This being our first Air BNB experience they were so helpful in explaining to us how everything works on the property. They gave us lots of suggestions of things that we might want to see and do during our visit. Upon entering the cottage it was evident that much thought and love went into the preparation for our stay. All our needs were anticipated for our stay and were met beyond our expectations. Ed and Tanaya exhibit a great love for the environment which was reflected in the garden setting and all the creatures that live there with them. The artistic flare that they have for creating a serene and peaceful environment was simply wonderful.

  • Tenaya was an EXCELLENT host! The cottage was exactly as described and everything was so nice and clean! She really goes the extra mile by putting homade preserves and muffins in the fridge for guests. Tenaya made us feel even more welcomed when she stopped by the second day to make sure we were OK and had everything we needed to make our stay perfect! Tenaya was a great, warm and friendly host and we'll recommend Clara's cottage over and over again! We can't wait to go back!

  • Amazing gardens and outdoor tub. We forgot a book and it was so kind of them to track it down and mail it to us. We had a very relaxing getaway there.

  • We just returned from 2 restful rejuvenating nights at Clara's cottage. Tenaya made us feel welcome from the moment of our arrival and all the homey touches from her delicious jam, muffins and applesauce she provided to the beautiful artistic buildings and gardens made the experience extra special. The outdoor tub under the giant cypress tree was also a high point. She even made sure to fill the bird feeder outside our door so we could have the pleasure of watching the birds as we ate our breakfast. The location of the cottage on a quiet lane which leads directly to the dunes and one of the most beautiful almost deserted beaches in northern Ca. added to our enjoyment. We definitely plan to return whenever possible.

  • Very cozy and sun-filled cottage, we loved it! The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed picking blackberries and plums, soaking in the outdoor tub, grilling steak on the outdoor grill, and walking to the beach. Perfect for a relaxing getaway!

  • This cottage is absolutely amazing. This is a great place to relax in the serene garden or the tub with the ocean breeze rustling through the trees and the waves crashing faintly in the background. With a short walk down the road is access to the dunes and a hammock that gives a breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean. We went to Glass Beach but right once we got out of the car and saw all of the people, we just wanted to be back at our private cottage. Tenaya and Ed are amazing people who are very gracious and even invited us to have tea with them. It was such a great experience but be warned, once you get here, you won't want to leave!

  • Where do I even begin? :) I had Clara's Cottage saved onto my favorites for the longest time. Everytime I wanted to daydream about a future vacation, I would go browse at pictures and read reviews. The opportunity finally came for a visit to this lovely cottage on President's Day weekend. It was beyond perfect. The kitchen was perfect for making small meals and brewing that cup of hot tea, so you can sit in the living room and watch the bird party outside your window. The bed was so comfortable, and the stove made it nice and toasty. I can write an ode to just the outdoor bathtub. How do I love thee, outdoor bathtub? It was amazing bathing under the stars, and also during the day. On our last evening there, I took a bath and was accompanied by the most adorable calico I have ever met, Bella. I am now Bella's biggest fan. Tenaya is gracious, sweet, accommodating and so welcoming. We cannot wait to come back.

  • We loved this place. The cottage is snug and garden is beautiful. It's a short walk across the dunes to miles of empty beach. We spent a week there and left feeling great.

  • My wife and I loved it here. The room as clean, comfortable, had everything we needed, and the owners even delivered breakfast to our room in the rain. We had mentioned to them that we were vegan, as we didn't want them to have to waste any food that we weren't going to eat, and they even brought us a vegan breakfast!!! We would stay again here any day and recommended it to anyone!!!

    Zackery2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place! So quiet and comfy. They brought us pastries, coffee and tea in the morning. We thought that was a nice touch. Would recommend.

A roadside attraction without the distraction. A car goes by, a bicyclist or walker passes, swallows dip and dart. This circa 1890s former blacksmith shop is twenty feet to the peaceful Pacific Coast Highway, and a quick walk to a secluded beach. Westport boomed in 1878 and was the largest town north of San Francisco, but truth be told, not much happens here any more. Open and airy and cozy and happy, packed with strange and varied art work. Enjoy cooking and napping, reading or staring, and the endless changing Pacific off the deck. Writers, escapists, and creative types will appreciate the solitude of the detached artist studio. One bedroom is cozy and dark, the other bright, with a view to the ocean and a loaded bookshelf. The kitchen has a 4 burner gas range/oven and coffee maker. The living area has a long table for a gourmet spread or a project. Bath with shower, washer and dryer, and the Lost Coast's largest collection of those plaster fish. Watch a DVD or listen to music. Play a game. Be inspired. Soak in the hot tub or just sit on the porch in comfortable adarondack chairs. Outside you will find a 100 square foot artist studio with another large deck. There is a writing desk inside and a stereo system for ipod/computer hookup with two indoor speakers. Great space to do some morning yoga or painting. There is also a very comfortable oversized chair that converts to a twin size sleeper bed. Extra sheets/blankets are next to the sofa sleeper. You will also find a charcoal grill outside. There sandy beaches just a block away and down the bluffs to stairs. All the nearby beaches are dog friendly too and pets are welcome in my home. Buy local! The Westport General store sells beer and staples and makes great organic sandwiches and pizzas to order. The Westport Hotel and Old Abalone Pub serves dinners on the weekends. Off high-way parking for two cars. Note that the side yard is a sculpture construction site for The Westport Whale, a future roadside attraction. This place has all the basic amenities without the frills. The exterior of the house is almost completely renovated fully restoring it to it's historic state. It is my Dream and my favorite place to be in the whole world. I hope you will enjoy it too.
  • We had a wonderful time at Kyle's Oceanside House and were most appreciative of the reception, comfortable beds and hot tub. I think the funnest part of our stay was all of the decorations and art that had been accumulated. A lot of imagination is in this home. Also our little dog really loved the lawn and was safe to run around. Thank you Kyle!

    Gerry2016-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay at Kyle's place. We absolutely love it. The view out of the kitchen and off the back deck is amazing. The proximity to the beach and beautiful hiking trails is great. The little market across the street and the restaurant down the road are wonderful. The bed is super comfy and Kyle has thought of absolutely everything. And, the wonderfully funky vibe in the whole place makes the stay that much more memorable

    Greg2013-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle's oceanside house was full of charm and humor. We loved all the art on the walls and the feeling of creative collaboration. Views of the pacific are expansive and especially appreciated from the hot tub on the back porch. Excellent coffee, beer and chocolate, courtesy of Kyle, too. What more do you want?

    Sue 2015-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 days at Kyle's place with our two dogkids and had the most amazing time! It was great getting away from the city to hang out in a small town along the coast. We relaxed, cooked, hung out on the beaches, and made art. It was inspiring being in a fun, creative home in such a beautiful place. Kyle left us a few goodies (wine, candies, art supplies, and even potty bags!), a binder full of useful information, and a hand-written card which was a nice treat. We were sad to leave (especially the dogs!), but definitely plan to visit again in the future. :)

    Nancy2013-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time in Kyle's home and it was a magical experience yet again. I've never felt so at home in a place that isn't my own. From the Bay Area, we visited Boonville to enjoy some local brews and then to Fort Bragg to buy our groceries at the lovely Harvest Market to pick up some amazing local fish and produce. Extremely well stocked and thought out kitchen. Books galore (no need to bring any). Stunning views, clean and fully functioning hot tub and bbq, and lots of great walks to nearby quiet beaches. We never got tired of looking at the artwork and kept seeing new things that inspired lots of laughter and conversation. We will never look at whales the same way! A few little things to note: poor wifi and no phone service (but this was actually a blessing for us), and the shower stall was a little short and cramped for my tall man. All that said, we are planning to return again soon for a longer stay and can't wait!

    Joy2015-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! The back deck has a great view of the ocean and there is a hot tub! Perfect for relaxing and watching the sunset. We were able to cook our meals in the kitchen during our stay and eat at the dining room table with a view of the ocean. We also watched some movies from the dvd collection. Also, can't say enough about the beautiful beaches within walking distance. Kyle was a great host, very easy to communicate with! I highly recommend staying here!

    Janna2015-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • My teens and I loved Kyle's getaway so much that we can't wait to go again. There was plenty of room and all the comforts we needed including a washer and dryer which I had not remembered. Food was all we really needed to bring. The hot tub was a delight. Love, love, love the view! Kyle was very efficient and responsive to calls, emails when needed and although we have not met, seems to be a very energetic, ambitious. and positive person. Planning my next trip now!

    Diana2015-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • A first time user and a GREAT experience! You won't find ANY hotels that will leave as lasting an impression. Although Kyle was not present his passion for life, love, and art were evident everywhere. He is a person worthy of emulation... "Make your life magical... and follow your dreams" were the take away messages we got from our stay. Meanwhile, our dog acted like she had arrived in heaven on the beach near the house and down the road! Thank you for a great time! Will be back to airbnb for future stays.

    Westport, CA, United States

This is the most beautiful place on the Mendocino coast, and perhaps in all of Northern California. Switzer Farm of Westport is a fully restored 1884 Victorian farmhouse that sits atop 22 secluded oceanfront acres directly overlooking the wild Pacific Ocean. It will comfortably sleep 19 adults and 6 children. The property is located about 35 minutes north of Mendocino and just south of the historic village of Westport.
The home is completely private, situated far away from its nearest neighbor. It is further shielded by forested lands to the south, north and east, while enjoying uninterrupted access to and views of the crashing waves, sea stacks and wild beaches to the west. Because the house and property are all west of Highway 1, there is nothing between you and the ocean but open and very private space. There are majestic, expansive views of the Pacific Ocean from all of the home's west rooms, upstairs and downstairs, and even from half of the rooms on its east side. To top it off, there is a beautiful west-facing veranda overlooking the ocean and headlands below — perfect for morning coffee or a sunset family dinner. The house will sleep 20+ people — there are beds for up to 19 adults and 6 of their children. There are 8 beautiful bedrooms (2 of which have both a bed for adults and sofa bed for their children), plus a living room with sofa bed, and a full size attic equipped with self-inflating queen air mattresses. There is a gourmet kitchen with top of the line appliances, 4 full bathrooms (2 with ocean views), and a laundry room and pantry. The tables in the dining room and kitchen will seat 20 people, and can be arranged in tandem fashion to seat folks contiguously. In addition to the main house, there are two historic barns and a garden shed, all with unimpeded views of the ocean. This is our forever home, and we welcome you to enjoy it as much as we do.
This is the perfect place to get far away from city life and enjoy time cloistered with family and friends, hiking, beach combing, stargazing, or whale-watching from the house, veranda and expansive grounds and promontories. Each evening, the deer and feral goat come out from our forest to graze in the ocean-front meadow below. We spot a whale — or many whales — most days we are here. The sounds of the crashing surf ease us to sleep each evening and greet the new day as we awake each morning. The village of Westport is just a short walk north. The Westport Village Society built a town staircase a 5 minute walk from our house that will take you down to a public beach. There is a terrific hotel, the Westport Hotel, and its Abalone Pub offers great food and drink most nights a week in season. The Westport Store is a terrific country store offering essential items like coffee, wine, soft drinks and beer -- but they make a good pizza and have good bagels too. If you need to do a big grocery shop, Fort Bragg is just a 20 minute drive south. All around the house are great trails for hiking and sightseeing. There are great beaches for surfing, swimming or beach combing within a 10 minute drive north or south.
  • After a four-hour scenic drive from San Francisco through towering redwoods and breathtaking vistas of the Pacific Ocean crashing into the cliffside, we arrived at Switzer Farm of Westport. The majestic home is a thoughtful blend of authentic Victorian period details (beautiful, yet whimsical light fixtures and intricate door hinges) and modern conveniences (microwave, dishwasher, and washer/dryer). The rooms are filled with plush beds that invite sleep and cozy sofas on which to curl up with a good book. Both of the master bedrooms face the ocean, so you can fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves. It was the perfect home for a multi-family getaway to celebrate our grandmother's 80th birthday, as there were plenty of bedrooms for us, as well as indoor and outdoor spaces for each of us to do what we wanted, alone or together. We cooked many meals at the house and made good use of the BBQ grill on the veranda. From the ocean-facing veranda, we watched the sun set on the horizon, as well as gazed at the Milky Way in a night sky filled with stars. We took a short walk to the sleepy town of Westport and climbed down the stairs to the local beach, and picked up some delicious pizza at the general store to eat back at the house. There's also a great grocery store (Harvest Market) in nearby Fort Bragg to stock up the fridge. We were hoping to do more in the surrounding area, but ended up lazing away the day at the house because it was just that comfortable--truly a home away from home. Gary, the host, was extremely responsive as we contacted with him questions and very understanding that there are some quirks to Victorian homes (e.g., how to switch from hand shower to standing shower). We can't wait to return and explore more of the nearby area!

    Yuka2017-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time at Switzer Farm! The AirBnB listing does not do this place justice. The view of the coast from the house was breathtaking and the house was gorgeous with so many beautiful touches. Our group had a great time walking around the stunning property, relaxing on the porch, and cooking in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen. We even saw some whales on our last morning! We are already dreaming of our next trip to this amazing house.

    Susannah2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect place to share with a large group, especially for a holiday or reunion. The attention to detail around the restoration of this fine Victorian is amazing. The view to the ocean is unreal, we spent a warm November here and lucky could spend much of our time on the deck just gazing out to sea. We were able to cook meals for 17, even a tricky meal like Thanksgiving. The beds are wonderful all around, but the upstairs rooms with views are especially nice. We were 17 people, including teens and young adults and had plenty of room to spread out and play card games, cook, do a puzzle and for some just reading a book quietly was a possibility. I would not hesitate to rent this home again; the place is really all we could have hoped for. The nature alone up in this part of the world is inspiring. My group is already talking about when we can assemble here again. Sharon San Francisco, CA

Rustic-chic cottage nestled in a eucalyptus grove along Hwy 1. Just minutes from the magical dunes and ocean panoramas of Mackerricher Park and a quick drive to all the local attractions. Also – check out our newly-listed House of the Forest Dunes. A bigger space with full kitchen. Rent out both spaces on the property for one of the best deals on the coast for large groups!
The space is a lovely 650-square-foot redwood-shingled cabin with bedroom (queen); kitchen (sink, counter, single induction burner, minifridge); full bathroom, and living room (pull-out couch) with loft (full-sized futon mattress). The cabin is well insulated and on cold winter nights, there are a couple of space heaters, which usually does the trick, or you can fire up the wood burning stove and make it super warm and cozy. There's also a small table for eating meals and stereo to plug your mobile device into. The cabin is about 50 yards from our house, and there are trees and a fence between them, so you're entirely private except if we happen to see each other in the driveway. We are right off of a sparsely driven stretch of Highway 1. Family vacation, romantic getaway, artist retreat -- it's a perfect spot for all your Mendo needs. The area around the cabin still needs to be landscaped – it's not picture perfect yet – so there's a substantial discount from what we will charge we create the magic garden of our dreams. But if you don't care about that stuff that much, it's a great bargain for lovely lodging on the coast.
We live across the street from peaceful horse pastures. On the other side of the house are the dunes and the ocean. We have neighbors, but the property is surrounded trees and you won't see anyone else. 20 minutes North is the trailhead to the Lost Coast. 7 minutes South is Fort Bragg... We're a great location for a Mendocino vacation, Ideally situated between the Northward attractions of Pacific Star Winery and Westport and Fort Bragg/Mendocino to the South. And of course, the dunes. We're just two minutes to an entrance to the park. Our guests spend a lot time out there walking, meditating, playing music, adventuring, stargazing... Walk or drive a little ways inland brings you to deep expanses of redwoods on hundreds of miles of old logging roads...
  • Comfortable, quiet place for a relaxing weekend away. Quick access to MacKerricher State Park, and Fort Bragg. WiFi was a bit slow but it was nice to disconnect a little! Instructions provided by Jason were accurate and clear. Would definitely go again!

  • Cute, cozy, clean little cottage about 10-15 min north of Fort Bragg. Jason was very responsive to inquiries/issues. Reasonably priced for how many people it can accommodate. My 4.75 year old daughter loved the loft area. The front door is about 2 car lengths from highway 1 - good to know for light sleepers. The driveway can be tricky to get in and out of, as the property sits at a sharp bend in the highway.

  • Jason's listing is a can't miss if you're in the Monterey area. Less than a three minute walk from his cabin is a massive landscape of dunes. Breathtaking doesn't even begin to explain it! Jason was very welcoming and communicative. Finding his place was easy, and he was even there upon our arrival to show us around and give us recommendations for our road trip, which was much appreciated. The cabin was spacious and lovely. There was more than enough room for the four of us! We loved the loft space and the bedroom, and spent a lot of time in the cozy kitchen and living room. The highlight of our stay was absolutely the dunes. Pictures don't do it justice! We packed a picnic and walked 30 or so minutes out into the dunes and watched the sunset. A truly magical place and a can't miss! Thanks, Jason!

    Courtney2015-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for our needs and Jason gave us great recommendations for coffee, dinner and beaches in the area. Outside the cabin is a little scruffy as Jason says in the ad - in the process of renovating and landscaping - but don't let that scare you off! It's clean, comfortable and peaceful and had everything my girlfriend, son and I needed for 3 nights. My 9 year old son loved the loft. Do NOT miss the dunes just a couple minutes north of here at sunset - one of the most memorable parts of our trip!

    Jeremy2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jason gave us good tips for seeing the local sights and was a pleasure to communicate with. The dwelling itself was exactly as described, complete with a cozy little wood stove! Would gladly rent again.

    Mike2016-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jason and Lauren were very sweet and gracious, and clearly love to host! Such a wonderful spot for exploring the dunes... It's like being on the moon :)

    Joshua2015-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jason and Lauren were friendly and very welcoming! Jason showed us around and explained everything very clearly, including using the induction cooker, which was fun to use and easy to learn to use. The cabin was beautiful and very cozy - we burned a couple logs in the fireplace and the whole place stayed nice and toasty all night. And the dunes! So beautiful. This was a great experience and worth every penny. I would definitely recommend it. Very private and restful.

    Tatiana2015-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great 1 night stay here on our way up north. The Cottage is right off Highway 1, clean and well-stocked to make simple meals. Our girls loved the loft and even though it's a small space, the 5 of us (+ dog) were cosy and warm. The dunes just up the highway are worth a day trip. Thanks Jason for an overall great stay!

  • I enjoyed my two night stay and wished I could have stayed longer. The house is charming and clean, the setting is superb. It is hard to conserve the water as requested while waiting for it to heat up so maybe an upgrade to an on demand water heater but other than this it was 5 star!

    Patricia2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Carla was easy to contact, cheerful and cooperative.

    Will2016-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great, quiet location. Easy to find off Highway 1. Beautiful views of the ocean from all 3 bedrooms. Fire pit and outdoor seating. Clean, quaint decor, all necessary kitchen gadgets to make fabulous meals. A 10 minute drive to Fort Bragg and a 35 minute drive to Mendocino. Lots to do: hikes along the ocean in the state park, glass beach, cafes and restaurants in Mendocino, North Coast Brewing Company, wine tasting to name a few. Or just stay in at night and play board games or watch a movie on Netflix or Amazon. Carla was very helpful and responsive before and during our stay and the caretaker lives in the back cottage and he's wonderful. You can walk to the ocean bluffs from the house but it is overgrown and difficult to navigate. You'll need to wear hiking shoes rather than flip flops, but the view is worth it. There are no dressers or closets in the bedrooms, which would be helpful for longer stays. We loved our time here and will definitely recommend it to friends!

    Soraya2016-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • I agree with the other reviewers. The place was immaculate and comfortable. It was funky fun and the view/location spectacular!

    Ramona2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Un endroit extraordinaire Amazing place in the Middle Of no where!! You shouldn't look for somewhere else to stay in the area.

    Isabelle2015-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had a great time at this farmhouse! The view was amazing and we were so thankful to have all that view and space to ourselves. We went into Ft. Bragg and visited a couple nearby beaches, but it was nice to come "home" to such a grand and private location. The house is much more spacious than I imagined which made it great for a group like ours. The only thing to note is groups of more than 2 might want to plan your showers as the hot water needs a lot of time to build.

    Barbara2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our vacation to the Farmhouse was amazing. The property is gorgeous and the house was unbelievably clean and well prepared. Lots of really cool antiques. Family had a great time.

Now, you have the unique opportunity to stay in one of Westport's famous 'tall houses.' The 'Westport Landship' exhibits one-of-a-kind breathtaking views of the beautiful Mendocino coastline from every room . Sip wine by the old-fashioned wood fireplace in the expansive great room and watch the waves crash on the rocks below through the coastline window wall. Cooks will love the Landship's galley and adventurers love our easy access to the beach.
Our beautifully designed house is full of unique amenities that makes each trip special! From whale watching on top of the lighthouse deck to exploring the tide pools below, the Landship is full of fun opportunities.
  • This place offers an amazing, one-of-a-kind, vacation experience. From expansive views to private beach access and morning tide pools, Westport Landship was an ideal place for our family vacation (ages 18-88). The only note to mention is there was no cell service and very limited wifi (we loved the opportunity to disconnect, but don't plan on working from this vacation spot).

    Samantha2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • We most definitely would stay at the Landship again. The house was very comfortable and accommodated our party of 10 people (6 adults- 87 to 35 yrs old ~ and 4 kids ages 5 & 6). The stairs were a bit of a challenge for Grandma but she took her time going up them and was rewarded with a wonder view of the ocean from her bedroom. The bedroom with the 4 twin beds was perfect for the "Little's" as I call them. It has a small tv with a DVD player so they could go up and watch a movie. They have a good selection of DVD's both kids and adults. As a bonus for our 4 day stay the ladies of the house went down to the local Westport Hotel (it also has a bar) on Saturday afternoon to have High Tea while the guys hung out with the kids (4 Little's). We also took the Little's to the community park for an Easter egg hunt complete with the Easter Bunny and a light rain. Loved the private beach even though the steps were steep the Little's had no problems using them and loved it down there. They found a star fish and what was left of an octopus. LOL, don't touch it! Of course they did. They even got to see a foot long gardener snake eating a small lizard and thought that was fantastic. The only thing we found that the house was missing was shot glasses, but then maybe we just missed seeing them. The parking is limited but it was not a issue for us. We made some wonderful memories. Be sure to stop into the North Star Winery on your way to the Landship and have a glass of wine while watching the ocean.

  • Fantastic getaway for our family! Great Nautical theme throughout the amazingly spacious home. Loved the private beach and the outdoor swing to take in the views. Very private and quiet for a wonderful, relaxing vacation. Close to Fort Bragg and Mendocino for day trips. Made it back to the house in time for a glass of wine in front of the fireplace before dinner. Highly recommend this home. Thomas was very accessible and helpful, a great host!

    sapna2017-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • This house is in such a special place. The house itself is well maintained and is very cozy. The private beach and ocean views are unbeatable.

    Madison2017-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Westport landship is amazing!! We were a party of 10, lots of space for all of us. The house has everything you will need to prepare meals & enjoy each other's company. We have cell service thru T-Mobile & had no service in Westport (I would suggest printing out your information before you get there). There is minimal wifi available, but that got everyone playing cards & board games instead of video games or You Tube. Lots of stairs to get to the beach but they weren't as bad or scary as they looked at first, just go down backwards & hold on to the railing. We saw sea lions not that far out in the water. Beach toys & towels are provided also. We drove up to Westport from San Francisco area. We drove 101 to Willits & the 20 to the coast, this route is mountain & tight turns (several got car sick). I would suggest driving 128 from Cloverdale & then up highway 1. This is the way we headed back to San Francisco, beautiful drive & some redwoods along the way. No one got sick & no tight turns. Both ways are beautiful & scenic. I would highly recommend this location to anyone!! We would love to go again!

    Kelly2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home. Poking was very easy and Thomas communicated extremely well. Only downfall is the location of the fourth bedroom. Need to go outside to access it.

    Nancy2017-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • We really had a good time and enjoyed the place a lot. It is amazingly beautiful and serene with private access to the beach. The beach itself was good with nice rocks nearby. The views from all rooms are amazing. The house is loaded with kitchen utensils, and lots of linen etc. Now the issues: we could not connect to the internet at all and had no cellular service too. While this can be a blessing at times, some of us were planning to work from home on one of the days and had to take off eventually. Also, there were no curtains in most rooms and it was difficult to put my baby to sleep with so much light. Another issue was the bbq grill was really old and rusty and we could not use it. While the owner informed me about the dated grill when I enquired a week before the travel, it would have been good to get this information during the booking time. Overall, we really liked the place for its beauty and quiet, but were disappointed for the lack of internet, curtains, etc. We will definitely like to return if these things were taken care of.

This is an amazing home on a private peninsula surrounded by the sea, sandy beaches and nature. The home is newly remodeled. Watching birds soar, whales swimming by and children playing on the beach below. It is truly a front row seat by the sea !
Everyone that comes here says its the best view of any home they have ever been. It is end of the road privacy. There is a gourmet kitchen and 3 newly remodeled bathrooms. At low tide there is a sea cave below that takes you to a secret beach. This is a destination you'll always remember !
A mostly quiet neighborhood with vacation homes and other vacation rentals. It surrounded by trees and the sea.
  • What an amazing experience! This place is so tranquil, beautiful, and comfortable. Deryl is an attentive and accommodating host, and I'd come back to his place in a heartbeat.

  • This is an amazing home! Secluded, beautiful, comfortable. The view cannot be beat. During the day, you see the ocean, and at night you see the Milky Way from the hot tub. Really a magical place.

  • Deryl was awesome and so was his home . Deryl typifies that California friendly. Here if you need him but not in your face. Magnificent property it's location is all we hoped for. The interior was clean, well kept and comfortable!!!

  • I'm not sure I want to let the rest of the world in on this unbelievable property. It is one of a kind. Unique in that nothing compares to this property. There are NO properties that compare. Lucky we found it for a long weekend!

  • Seaside point is a gem. Situated on a peninsula overlooking the beach and the sea, the views are unreal. It's tranquil. The waves provided a peaceful soundtrack to realizing in this great home. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. It was so relaxing. You can walk the beach below. The dunes just down the road are great running and walking trails. Jackson state park is close by as well for great redwood hiking. At night, the star gazing is so far beyond what you will see in the city. You can see the Milky Way on a clear night. This place is also great because it's 3 and 1/2 hours from the city, a pretty straight shot up the 101 if you hit it with no traffic. Deryl is a great host. His house is beautiful, all the features are gorgeous. The bathrooms and bedrooms are fantastic. The kitchen is great, with plenty of room. The gas range, all the finishes are well done. We recently remodeled so we noticed all the little things and he did an excellent job with this home! Waking up to a view of the ocean: priceless. We will be back! Can't recommend this home enough!

Unplug, unwind, restore your senses at Rose Cottage - a romantic, private, quiet garden cottage retreat on the spectacular Mendocino coast.
The Rose Cottage is located in Inglenook on several acres, just 10 minutes north of Fort Bragg in a unique microclimate with very little fog, tucked behind the MacKerricher dunes. Check-in time is 3pm - 10pm; check-out time is 11am.
  • Heaps of charm and ambiance. Gracious hosts. Exquisite craftmanship inside and outside the cottage. Beautifully concieved gardens. Peace and solitude-- just what we needed. We felt somewhat conflicted-- wanting to extoll the quality of the property but not really wanting anyone to find out about it so that we can have it for ourselves. After 4 days, we felt like we had been away from the hustle and bustle for a month..

  • We spent our honey moon weekend at the Rose Cottage and could not have picked a better place! Forget Hawaii, I would rather go here again. Tenaya was a fantastic host and the cottage was just perfect: intimate, quiet, and surrounded by a garden. It was great to wake up to birds singing and go for a walk on the near by sand dunes or explore the surroundings and sip a wine with the ocean view (great suggestion, Tenaya!) or visit ocean bluffs and beaches within few minutes of driving. She had blackberry jam and oatmeal cakes and fresh cut strawberries as special surprise for us when we checked in. We already miss the cottage!

  • Rose Cottage was more than I could have even asked for. I found it last minute (the day before) and Teyaya got back quickly, it was reserved within an hour. The cottage and surrounding property is beautiful. Lush gardens with fruits and vegetables, a gopher hunting outdoor cat, a deck and a fire pit. The cottage is sweet and cozy with a wood stove to heat the place and a heavy down comforter to snuggle under. Tenaya was a great host, we got her famous jam and muffins as well as some fruit and an invitation to pick from the garden what we could find. The house is near the state park dunes and the ocean. You can explore for hours without running into a single soul. Needless to say, we loved it and will certainly be back! Thanks Tenaya!

    Katherine2013-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya was a lovely host. She greeted us with chocolates when we arrived for our anniversary and provided great suggestions for things to do and see. The cottage (Rose) itself was perfect. It was very clean and had so much beautiful, natural light. The wood stove fireplace was perfect to keep the place cozy. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and the grill on the deck was perfect for steaks. I enjoyed my coffee on the deck each morning and the space is serene. The birds were singing and there was a nice breeze that made me never want to leave. The location to the dunes was an added bonus. I would highly recommend Tenaya and any of her cottages for a wonderful getaway in Ft Bragg.

  • Absolutely Loved the People, the property and the Experience. When booking a get away, you sort of have to go with your gut, on what other people have said and how it looks in pictures. This lovely cottage exceeded my best expectations which were quite high to begin with. The cottage was built with an eye for detail. Every piece of moulding was perfect, beautiful furnishings, everything you could have hoped to find in the kitchen drawers were right there. The little shelf above the shower, where shells are displayed to the beautiful wood trim and wood burning stove (which we unfortunately didn't need/use as the weather was perfect) We spent as much time outside the cottage on the beautiful deck, enjoying a glass of wine while watching Quail run back and forth and witnessing many different kinds of birds feeling from the feeder. Tanaya and Ed were wonderful hosts, they let you know they were around if you needed anything, yet we also felt a wonderful sense of privacy. Come prepared to unplug, relax, take in the beautiful north coast. If I were running an AIRBNB place myself, this would be the kind of unit I would be proud to present. Book now... I sense the good work on this cottage will spread fast! Thanks Tanaya and Ed, nice people and great Hosts!

    Henry2013-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect! From the delicious homemade goodies that Tenaya left us, the cozy cottage, addictively challenging puzzle, and stunning location, it was the perfect weekend getaway- and just one weekend wasn't enough, we will definitely be back!

    Sarah2015-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • The rose cottage was the perfect get away place for a romantic week end. North California as a whole is really one of the most beautiful place I have been so far and I'd definitely recommend the Dunes Garden as a starting point. The cottage in itself is well-equipped, well-designed and with a beautiful garden. Tenaya was welcoming and attentive. She even left home-made plum jam for us! I'll definitely keep the adress and come back

    Francois2015-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • As ocean enthusiasts, my wife and I have lodged up and down the California coast from Eureka to San Diego. We've stayed in some wonderful hotels and Air BNBs along the way. Despite all of this travel, we were simply WOWED by Tenaya's amazing accommodations. When we first arrived at Tenaya's house, we immediately felt at ease and relaxed in the leafy neighborhood which was pungent with ocean air. Tenaya showed us to Rose Cottage, which was simply wonderful and felt something straight out of a novel about the Pacific Northwest. The dark hardwood floor in the kitchen is immediately inviting. There's a wood fireplace in the middle of the small cabin, which makes it very cosy at night. The bed was outstanding. It had downed pillows, a downed comforter, and those uniquely soft sheets which you know have been used and finely worn for decades. It reminded me of spending holidays at my Grandma's house and we were immediately set into "vacation mode" after relaxing on the bed. The location is also excellent since you have your own access to the nearby sand dunes and can literally walk a mile over this other worldly, labyrinth-esque configuration of dunes before you hit the rugged Pacific coast. There are several beaches and curvy redwood-lined drives within 10-15 minutes. We both wholeheartedly recommend Tenaya's accommodations-- if you're looking for unspoiled nature and the opportunity to bask in a warm 19th century era cottage, you will not be disappointed!

This ranch has been in my family for over 100 years. I love to share the beauty and harmony with others because there is so little of it left anymore. This darling cabin that I had so much fun redecorating from top to bottom, is complete with full kitchen , large bath and giant king bed. While you rest with your feet up inside, you can still see nature from the giant picture windows surrounding both the kitchen and living room area. Peaceful and relaxing for the soul.
A paradise for nature lovers, guests will frequently see great blue herons, pelicans, red tail hawks, multiple types of hummingbirds, flocks of wild turkeys, frogs, quail, and foxes. There are domestic animals like Shetland Sheep( they are new to us). Lambs are born at different times of the year so maybe you'll be lucky enough to witness a birth. Horses love a pet or two and will always have their noses out for a snack ("watch your fingers"). If you want to decompress "off grid", away from your cell phone and email (satellite tv, wifi and landline available but thats your little secret) in a serene valley with views of the milky way on clear nights, mornings filled with fog dripping off of old growth redwoods, and the distant crash of the ocean waves piercing the healing night time quiet, then this is the place. The City of Fort Bragg is just 20 minutes away down our rustic lumber road to satisfy your fine dining, cultural and live music cravings. Ocean walks and horse back trail riding are just a short drive away.
This is a quiet and peaceful property with bright sunny meadows and stands of redwood on the perimeter. The owner's father and grandfather built the barns and many of the buildings with lumber from the property. Some of this exquisite clear grain old growth redwood lumber was repurposed to make handmade shelving units and trim the counters and windows in this cabin.
  • A slice of heaven! There are not enough superlatives in the English language to relate our experience at the Swanky New Cabin. Jay is an absolutely delightful host, as welcoming as her fresh, beautifully appointed cabin is warming. The pure peace you feel once on the property is overwhelming. The cabin is private and secluded, and Jay provides lots of little extras - from sundries you may have forgotten to spices and oils, etc for cooking in the spacious kitchen, etc. I won’t spoil all the secrets with too many details. Just know this is a perfect retreat!!! I literally felt part of me was missing when we left, but we did leave lighter, refreshed, more in harmony with each other and the world. We frequently visit the Mendocino area, and this was our first airbnb experience, but we will return again and again to Jay’s Swanky New Cabin. We have made a life-long friend!

    Deanna2014-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We've just spent the most amazing long weekend at Swanky Cabin on Working Ranch. If you are looking for rest, relaxation and starry nights, this is the place! This is not a rustic cabin at all - sparkling clean and beyond comfortable, full of modern amenities including well-appointed kitchen and bathroom, fabulous shower and a cloud-like bed. The very best part of our experience, though, was getting to know the owner, Jay Gray. Jay is the best host I’ve ever encountered – friendly, thoughtful, informative and generous – yet she is always sure to give you privacy if that’s what you want. The ranch has so much history, and I wish we could have stayed longer and spent more time with Jay (and her sweet horses!). Swanky Cabin is one of the places that I hesitate to review, because I don’t want the secret to get out! But it would be wrong to keep this gem from others with a sense of adventure and a desire to learn about how things used to be in a simpler time. We hope to return soon!

    Renee2014-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • After 15 years of traditional B&B lodging in Fort Bragg for all our special occasions (anniversaries/birthdays), we are converts! This was our second stay with Jay, a wonderful host who bends over backwards to accommodate her guests. There are surprises aplenty! Upon learning that we eat low-carb, it was clear Jay had researched appropriate foods we could eat. Not even family works this hard! Having tried unsuccessfully to book a stay at our usual haunts in August (our first stay), we could not have been happier for the lack of availability of king sized beds in town, as we would otherwise never have found this magical location and beautiful host full of love - where we will return again and again! The cabin is just as pictured and described…However, there is so much more to discover. The fog enshrouded evenings can be mystical, but if you are lucky enough to land a clear night: sit on the deck with your favorite libation or just your companion, look up and just listen. You will not believe your eyes and ears and I guarantee you will not ever want to leave.

    Deanna2014-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. It's hard to even explain the level of care and attention to detail that was provided so I would have an amazing stay. Jay is the property owner and Persephone is the booking assistant on property and they both work together to go above and beyond to make sure their guests are comfortable and feel like family. Very warm and king people and a BEAUTIFUL cabin that is modern and rustic all at the same time. Jay thought of everything when she created this special place, which you will see. Beautiful sheep and chickens on property as well, so get ready to be greeted by "bah-ing" sheep saying "hello!" They are adorable and sweet and it's fun to watch them. Their baby lambs enjoy watching birds and chasing about, it's quite entertaining! The kitchen in the cabin is really big and has all the things you will love to cook with if you are a fan of cooking. They have some local markets that are really special, so ask about them so you can venture out and check them out. There are also many local restaurants of course if you'd prefer to be pampered and enjoy the local fare. Drive slowly down the long drive as many dear and baby fawn and bucks are leaping in and out of the forest around you and many species of birds abound, so please drive cautiously as to not injure any of them, not to mention the charming animals on the farm as you arrive to the cabin.

  • Wow!! What a wonderful relaxing time we had in this quiet, peaceful oasis of calm. Having worked for an airline for 27 years, I have seen the world, but this is truly one of the best and most impressive places I have ever stayed. It is so perfect and classy--every detail is tended to--and we enjoyed the beautiful house and amazing garden so much. Lindsay is welcoming and kind, and after inviting us to enjoy everything, leaves us to ourselves-listening to nothing but the sound of the sea. We will be back!! Doug and Trudi

  • Great cottage, perfect for our weekend getaway. Private and peaceful, definitely recommend!

  • A very peaceful stay, lovely garden, and adorable cottage. Lindsay was a great host, and we loved her dog!

    Sherrie 2012-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Zen cabin is incredibly clean, relaxing, cozy. Lindsay has done an amazing job creating this peaceful space-- both inside and out. Perfect for a quiet weekend away from the busy city. And it is only a short walk to the most amazing shoreline. The sand dunes were so much fun-- almost makes you feel like you're on another planet. On the way out of town we made a few wine tasting stops in the Anderson Valley, which is yet another perk of the Fort Bragg area. We LOVED this place and hope to return soon.

  • beautiful place -- it is definitely as pictured. lindsey is lovely and really liked the way she respected my privacy. not very comfortable though. no bedside table for book -- glasses or a glass of water. couch and chair are not comfortable -- though the outside seating space is. and for the money -- it would be nice to have basic condiments like coffee and tea and sugar or honey and salt and pepper to cook with. would have been too much to cook anything. lovely to look at -- and to experience the garden -- though amenities are missing.

  • The Zen Jewel Sanctuary is a must stay if you plan to travel to Ft, Bragg. CA. It is the most unique and relaxing stay we had during our 13 day vacation on the West coast! Lindsay is the perfect hostess she shared many reconmendations for us to visit during our travels!

    Ralph and Maggie2012-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsay's sanctuary is aptly named. The whole property is a tranquil garden, and the guest cabin is perfectly appointed. Lindsay seems to have thought of everything. As someone with an insatiable appetite for music, the Bose sound system was a nice surprise. Lindsay was a perfect host -- as much privacy as you want, but also very pleasant and interesting if you have a chance to meet. I'll definitely go back.

  • This quiet getaway was perfect for enjoying the beauty and seclusion of the Mendocino coast. If you're a couple looking for a quiet spot away from it all, look no further. You won't find a more beautiful spot so close to picturesque sand dunes and quick access to highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway).

  • Ken was a wonderful host. When I arrived he was right there to give me the key and give a tour of all the amenities. The room is spacious and more like your own cottage than a room. Both Ken and his wife are very friendly and I felt like I was very welcome. Plan to return for a longer stay.

  • Both Kenneth and his wife are wonderful hosts. This was my second stay, the first time was in July and this time was for my birthday stay in the lovely Mendocino area. The bed is sooo comfortable, the shower is wonderful, the space is spacious. I look forward to visiting again! Thank you so much to both Ken and Cheryl.

  • We loved our stay in Kenneth's place, especially the super comfy bed! The room is pretty spacious and he had nice basic amenities. Kenneth was very accommodating. The surrounding area is rural but still convenient to Fort Bragg. The town of Fort Bragg was surprisingly cute and had good restaurants to top it off. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

  • Although we were only there for 1 night, we instantly wished we could have stayed for a week! What a beautiful room in a perfect location! We sat out on the deck and watched the sun set over the beach. Perfect spot if you want some peace and relaxation! Would highly recommend. Kenneth and his wife are very lovely and have two beautiful dogs (all of whom we got along well with!).

Enjoy expansive ocean and white water views from this newly remodeled, three bedroom, three bath home. Located on a quiet street, overlooking the breathtaking northern California coast at MacKerricher Beach State Park and Inglenook Fen.
Three hundred feet outside the front door, you can walk down to miles of sandy beaches. Don't want to get sand in your toes? This is one of the longest stretches of public beachfront in California. Perfect for family bike rides or solo meditation walks. 10 Mile Road to the right leads you through MacKerricher State Park, with wooden boardwalks that guide you to the ocean bluffs, allowing you the opportunity to watch Osprey, Pelicans, Harbor Seals and Sea Lions in the surf. Truly a special place to enjoy nature and its' beauties. To the left you are greeted with miles of isolated sandy beaches, dunes, Inglenook Fen and the nesting grounds for the Sandy Plover.

  • We had a ladies' weekend at this lovely home to celebrate a friend's upcoming wedding. Was exactly as pictured and was very comfortable. We enjoyed staying up late chatting and playing games and then lazing around enjoying the beautiful view in the morning. It was very quiet and had direct access to the beach trail. We really lucked out that it was available on fairly short notice and would stay here again.

This is a beautiful, peaceful 2 bedroom home that will make a wonderful vacation destination for you, your family, and even your pets. Relax by the fireplace, soak in the hot tub and watch the ocean. You're steps from Fort Bragg's best beach and paved bike path. If you enjoy privacy and quick beach access, then Quail Crossing awaits you! Everything you need is waiting for you including WiFi, 3 cable TVs, deer in the backyard, a fully equipped kitchen and a hot tub to finish every day. Welcome!
You'll love the kitchen which is fully appointed with blender, crock pot, food processor and all the amenities. The dining area looks out into trees in one direction and lawn and garden in the other. Ping pong and croquet are both available as well as a BBQ on the deck. There are three TVs to accommodate different viewing preferences as well as CD, DVD, and WiFi capabilities. The master bedroom has a California King bed and sliding glass door out to the deck and hot tub. If you leave it open you'll be lulled by the sound of the sea all night. It has its own bathroom with double sinks and a shower. You can wake up to deer outside on the lawn and a wall of nasturtiums blooming along the deck. The guest bedroom has a queen bed, stacks of games. The bathroom with shower and tub is directly across the hall. The couch folds out to make a queen bed by the fire. Out in the garage you'll find a ping pong table, washer/dryer, kites and croquet. The spacious yard is private enough for sunbathing and large enough for all kinds of games with room to run for kids and pets. There is a small seasonal creek running through the back yard and a discovery trail that leads you up a sand dune to an expansive view of the coastline.
The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. The house is literally 3 homes from the ocean yet still off the oceanfront from the passers by and sometimes strong weather conditions—a little sanctuary of its own. You’re a very short walk to our local Mexican restaurant, the Purple Rose, a very popular destination and five minutes by car to the town of Fort Bragg’s numerous restaurants and interesting shops and galleries.
  • Bob and Barb were very good at getting back to me with any questions I had prior to our trip, and stayed in contact during our stay, making sure everything was ok. I was impressed on our arrival because the house was even better than the online pics! It is a very cozy and inviting home, with a beautiful back yard. its a very quiet neighborhood, and although we were very close to the ocean, I think my favorite part was relaxing in the hot tub after a hysterical game of ping pong! I would highly recommend this house to anyone whose looking to spend some quality time with the ones you love. I know that I will definitely be going back.

  • We had such a wonderful time at Quail Crossing! Just as described, it was a VERY short walk to the beach, and blissfully private and quiet, set back from the street. It rained most of the time we were there so exploring the beautifully landscaped back yard was done in galoshes. We still had just as much fun as if it were dry out. Everything was very clean, and there was tons of wood for the groovy round fireplace. Very cozy and welcoming. We were even greeted with chocolate and champagne! House was well insulated and warm so we enjoyed playing board games and watching the rain and surrounding nature out of all the large windows. Phone service was nil but the internet worked great (faster than ours, and we're in the bay area). The hosts were very communicative and gave us such detailed information we never had questions about anything. Even tried some restaurants they recommended, which we really enjoyed! I also enjoyed Barbara's lovely botanical watercolors around the house as well. We look forward to visiting again when we can do more outdoor exploring.

  • Great location, close to the beach, a delightful place to stay. We were visited daily (and nightly) by a variety of wildlife (mostly deer, crows, a cat and we think it was a raccoon), we didn't see a quail though. A fantastic experience for our first AirBnB transaction. A nice, peaceful (and indeed cozy) cottage, awesome communication with wonderfully welcoming and supportive hosts.

    Martin2015-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy, clean house in a wonderful location. My wife and three young children spend several days here exploring the coast, playing board games, hot tubbing, and reading. Our highlight was the coastal path and McKerricher State Park. Biking, running, picnicking. Bob and Barbara were kind and very responsive.

    Marshall2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our visit was a very good experience. The location is very private and quiet. The large yard was appreciated by our dogs. The beaches are just a short walking distance away and uncrowded. To the south is dog-friendly, and to the north, although restricted, is one of the most incredibly beautiful beaches that goes on for miles along the dunes area. Although the home is a bit dated, it was very comfortable and clean. Given the inclement weather during our visit, we really appreciated the nice wood-stove and great supply of firewood and kindling. I have to say Bob is the most attentive host I’ve encountered through Airbnb and appreciated that he checked in on several occasions throughout our stay to make sure everything was OK and to answer any questions. Highly recommend!

    Roy2016-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Bob and Barbara were very prompt with communication during the booking process and throughout the trip. We received numerous updates and helpful information. When we arrived i had a question on unlocking the spa cover and Bob got back to me within a matter of minutes. We had a wonderful stay and the location is fantastic! The property is well manicured and it was peaceful and tranquil getaway for the weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed stargazing from the spa, and falling asleep to the sounds of the surf nearby. The only minor issue was ants, but the property was very clean. Thanks Bob and Barbara!

    Buda2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience we had! Will definitely return, if allowed and make more memories. Bob was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of!

  • Ever stay with a great family friend who knows all the best spots and wants to make sure you have an awesome time in her town? That was our experience from start to finish with Marian and this neat place.

  • What a great place! Marian made us feel welcome and at home as well as directed us to the botanical gardens and oriented us to the trails at the ocean. The bed was very comfortable and the neighborhood was quiet. It is a peaceful place to stay. We would love to go back again!

  • We had a wonderful weekend at Creative Space. Everything about the listing was accurate. The bed was comfortable, the bathtub was great for relaxing and reading, and the setting was beautiful. The homemade granola was lovely and we had everything else we needed in terms of coffee, tea, milk, and kitchenware. Marian was extremely welcoming before and during our stay. She provided all the necessary information in advance, greeted us on arrival with a local beer and suggestions for beaches and restaurants, encouraged us to contact her with any questions during our stay, and hung out with us in the garden at the end chatting about gardening and her history with the property. The 10 Mile Beach entrances not far from Creative Space yielded two excellent morning walks, with very few other humans in sight. We really enjoyed our weekend and would recommend this property without hesitation. Thank you for your hospitality, Marian!

    Steve2016-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • First off Marian and Lanny were the best hosts. They were accommodating, quick with communications, and provided very good suggestions/secrets to maximize our experience in town. The Creative Space was just the ticket. Just far enough outside of Fort Bragg to jaunt into town but still feel away from it all. Redwoods cut through the property and open to a charming and diverse garden which was perfect for waking up sipping coffee in. The living space was very spacious for my wife and I, and very quiet. Very very relaxing and comfortable. Like us, I bet you won't want to leave.

    Rick2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • The place was nice, clean and close to various attractions in the area.Marian is a great host and gave us info about the local restaurents and places to visit around. It was my friend's Birthday the day we arrived and Marian even left a b'day gift for her.

    Dilpreet2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Marian was such a great host! She greeted us with our choice of local wine or beer and a walk through her garden. She's a great hostess, and was very accommodating. The large soaker tub and robes were a nice treat. You can hear the ocean on a windy day if you leave the windows open, and its very close to the beach access off of Ward Ave.

    Jonathan2015-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay here! Marian was so nice, gave us great recommendations and some fort Bragg beers! We also got homemade granola and local coffee! There is a really fun bike path close by that takes you to downtown Fort Bragg. Garden is beautiful and the space was really nice! Will definitely come back!

Lovely room facing out to the ocean. Let the surf lull you to sleep. Come upstairs to enjoy the rest of the home including hottub overlooking the ocean, gourmet kitchen, piano, fireplace, quiet conversation areas and decks.
Rent a room in The Sea Sanctuary, a beautiful home which has everything you could desire in a place for a relaxing getaway - fireplace, hottub facing the ocean, 180 degree ocean views, great kitchen, piano, and miles upon miles of beaches to stroll just outside the home. A seal colony lives just 1/3 mile to the south and migrating whales can be seen from the home during the winter and early spring. The home normally rents out for approximately $600/night for groups wishing exclusive access to the entire home. This listing is for one of the two rooms downstairs available for rent, a formal bedroom which has a comfortable queen size bed and a view facing the ocean. The other room for rent, a lovely Japanese-style room with sliding shoji screen doors and traditional tatami mats on the floor and a queen size mattress, can be seen in a 2nd listing here (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/888933). There is a full bathroom available for use downstairs which will be shared if the other room is occupied. Please note that, although I insulated the wall between the bathroom and this bedroom when building the home, sound from the shower can sometimes be heard in this room when other guests are using the bathroom. If you rent both available rooms, you would also have sole access to large open yoga/exercise area with 2 additional futons for sleeping and the full bathroom mentioned above. Groups larger than 4 would pay an additional $25/night per person. You are of course welcome to share the common living areas upstairs including kitchen, living room, hot tub, decks, etc. If you are into cooking, the kitchen is fully stocked for your use including Vitamix, KitchenAId Mixer, double oven, mircowave, etc. I do rent the entire house under a separate listing here if that is of interest to you. (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/944149)
It's very quiet and right in front of the home is one of the most beautiful and rarely traveled beaches I've ever come across. There are no large bluffs so access to the beach is super simple. Walk out the door and in 1 minute your toes can be in the sand. You can walk 4 miles to the north on the beach or a mile on the beach directly south into MacKerricher State Park.
  • Our stay here was exactly as awesome as advertised. The house is great. The location is great. Ted is great about talking about the area and your travels but still respecting your privacy when you want privacy. Just don't be shy if someone else is staying in the other room and you need to share the living spaces. Make friends!

    Alexander2014-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed out stay at Ted's. The remote location was perfect and the views were spectacular. Aside from the beautiful home itself, we also especially loved the piano and hot tub.

  • I had a very relaxing two nights at Teds place right on a secluded stretch of natural coastline. he is a gracious host with outstanding accommodations.

  • Ted's place is the epitome of relaxation! We especially loved the view, the hot tub, the enormous kitchen, and chill out spaces! You don't have to try hard to find a cozy nook to curl up in while enjoying the spectacular ocean view! Ted's space is unique, peaceful, clean and comfortable and he is a lovely host. He accommodated our late night arrival and communicated with us so clearly so that we knew how to get in, etc. I cannot express just how refreshing it was to stay at Ted's (even for one night). A lovely stay and highly recommended.

    Amanda2014-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best and most relaxing airbnb stay I've had. The place is beautiful. The bed is really comfortable and the hot tub is the icing on the cake. Our host Ted was very accomodating. He was very personable, calm, and overall cool guy! He also had some great local tips and recommended a restaurant nearby where I had the best oysters of my life! Thank you for welcoming us into your home for a memorable weekend.

    Sebastian2014-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Ted is a great, easygoing person and a great host. The space is nothing short of spectacular. I would love to come back.

    Matthew2014-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ted was a truly incredible host. He was warm, welcoming, and kind. He had invited us to a gathering of some friends he was hosting, which we sadly had to miss. We were running late driving down the coast from OR, and he was completely understanding. The following day, when we wanted nothing more than some rest from the road, he graciously offered his home immediately overlooking the stunning rugged California coast. I'm so grateful Ted let us stay in his home. It was a truly marvelous experience! Many thanks!!

    Laura2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Ted was as gracious and welcoming as we could hope for. His home is comfortable, artfully appointed and right on the beach. The views were stellar. Our bed was exceptionally restful. It was our first time there and will not be our last!

Kayak from the front yard in a spectacular marine preserve with seals, otters, and birds galore! Miles of beach to explore and have to yourself! Fantastic natural setting, yet still close to town. Unparalleled hiking and biking. Modern house with all the amenities. Big deck, BBQ, fireplace and 3.6 acres.
This is my second home, although I stay here a lot.
  • Everything about this place is amazing. We loved canoeing right from our front yard, especially to the oceanside beach at sunset. Everything was quiet and relaxed, we didnt see many people around during our stay. Our dog loved swimming and watching the ducks. Seals swim by frequently as well. The owner was super sweet and helpful. We will definetly come and stay again.

    Larissa 2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Clay was a great host. We took longer than we had expected getting up to 10 mile river (4th of July traffic out of San Francisco, Petaluma, Santa Rosa....), but Clay waited around to welcome us, show us around briefly, and most importantly show us his various watercraft and tell us how to operate them. Clay's kayaks, canoe and paddleboard transformed our experience of the 10-mile river. We have stayed several times at the subdivision at the top of the bluffs, and we love the beach and the views of the ocean. Most of all, though, we love the 6 miles of dunes and practically deserted beach to the South that are part of MacKerricher State Park. With the kayaks, access to these beaches and dunes was simple, regardless of the water level at the mouth of the river. And the river upstream was an area we had never explored before. In addition to a new view of the landscape (which was very beautiful), we could enjoy a storm of swallows around their nests under the big 10 mile river bridge, a trio of basking seals on some big logs trapped in the river, and a charming family of river otters who talked to each other continually in voices ranging from grumbling squabbles to high whistling squeaks. We are a family of 4, and our kids (boy and girl) are too old to still share a room, but we moved a mattress out from one of the two bedrooms into the main living area to create a workable solution. There was still plenty of room for us to eat together or sit and read, and honestly most of our time was spent outside. Sitting outside on the deck for breakfast we were often able to watch one or more of the local ospreys gliding around. One morning we watched a bald eagle carrying a snake land on a big snag on the other side of the river, and have her breakfast too! The house was warm, clean and well equipped. Clay was a very welcoming and helpful host. Two of the kayaks have pedal propulsion, which makes getting upriver very easy. These were not working on the day we arrived, but Clay fixed them and brought them over very quickly, and this further enhanced our already wonderful experience. We are very much looking forward to returning to Clay's place on the 10 mile river.

  • This place is a gem - serene, secluded and charming. We loved the accommodations - the house is a great space for a family or couple. Having access to the canoe and kayak was wonderful. We used the spotting scope and binoculars to watch the sea lions frolicking in front of the house - the view from the deck is amazing. Clay is an excellent host - very responsive. Wonderful stay.

  • This place is beautiful. Right on the water with an excellent view. Clay was responsive and easy to communicate with. Definitely would stay again.

  • Clay, We absolutely LOVED your place. It has been our favorite vacation rental to date. As a family of five, we are always looking for a beautiful location, somewhat secluded and very scenic. We got all of those and more. We can't thank you enough for allowing the use of your canoe, kayak and paddle board. We were beginners and figured it out quickly and went on an adventure both into the estuary where we saw otters playing and swimming along the shoreline as we went along, slowly floated up near a seal sun bathing on a piece of driftwood and many birds. It was serene and stunning. We also sailed/boated out towards the ocean a bit and decided to go ashore to check out the beach, caves and shoreline. This house is perfect. The only thing, and believe me when I say only, and this does not hinder the stay at (URL HIDDEN) a hot tub. If it was perched there on the deck for sunset soaks...perfect. But (URL HIDDEN) was amazing!! And thank you for allowing our dogs!! They had a great time as well. 'Til next time! - The Bradley Family

  • This is a charming two-bedroom cottage on a quiet estuary. We saw an otter from the house and lots of birds. Far enough from Fort Bragg to be quiet, but close enough for convenience. Highly recommended.

We're excited to host you in our happy, sunny, cozy home. Two bedrooms, with extra loft and a big couch – lots of sleeping space. Plus full kitchen, big yard and everything you need to hunker down for the perfect Mendocino adventure. Just minutes from the magical/mystical Inglenook dunes. For larger groups, rent out our cottage for an extra bathroom and two more bedrooms. The best deal on the coast for large groups!
Since 2015, we've been Airbnb-ing our cottage on the same property. It's gone really great, and now we're going to be out of town a lot, so we're excited to start sharing our home where we've been living for the past three years. The house is the perfect Mendocino vacation spot. We're about 7 miles north of Fort Bragg in the beautiful town of Inglenook, near magical nature, Pacific Star Winery, forests, beaches, hikes, so much more.
We're right on the coast! Because of the Eucalyptus trees, no ocean views or direct ocean access, but only a minute away from incredible ocean amazingness. Our place is situated north of Fort Bragg, in the sun belt, away from the fog (on most days). We have our own little microclimate up here in Inglenook which makes the place sunny most days of the year.
  • We had a great weekend in the woods / beach / dunes at Jason's place. Lots of great hikes nearby, and the cabin is a cozy place to relax by the wood stove after. Thanks Jason!

Comfortable home on acreage near the ocean with Midcentury charm and remodeled with new windows and doors, tile floors, and carpet. The kitchen is basic but functional, and still has its original tile. Two bedrooms have queen sized beds and the den has a double sized foldout sofa. The third bedroom has a twin sized bed. There are two bathrooms, one with its original yellow tile which has been refreshed, and the other which has been totally remodeled with a tiled walk-in shower and new fixtures.
Home is located in Cleone, California, just north of Fort Bragg and MacKerricher State Parks stands between the home and the ocean. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the beach.
Home on acreage close to ocean and MacKerricher State Park. Walk to Cleone Beach and the Haul Road.
  • We stayed at the Fish House for a work trip in the area, rather than a hotel, and it was a great decision. The house is very well kept and organized and the owner has included many thoughtful touches. The furnishing and style are also really nice for a vacation rental. We especially enjoyed having dinner on the spacious back deck and watching the sun set over the marsh and ocean. I highly recommend it!

  • This home is content and confident, having been well loved since it's inception. A private and beautiful corner of Ft Bragg that offers every possible recreation and relaxation to those who come here. It is a wonderful and safe place to bring the very young, or the very old ~ there truly is much to enjoy right here for just about everyone. We just hope you will not want to come when we are planning our next trip!

  • The fish house was great. We were a couple families coming to relax in Fort Bragg for the weekend. It was very clean, comfortable and accommodating. The dog could come, there was a BBQ to use and that back deck has an amazing view.

  • Marilyn's home is by far one of the best airbnb experiences we have had. We stayed here for a weekend (visiting from Bay area). The house is beautiful with rustic charm. Super clean. Beds very comfy. And location is everything - just a walk to the beach, sunset views from the deck, and only minutes from Jackson Forest and Mendocino Woodlands - we took advantage of both for hiking and mountain biking. Would 100% recommend!!

    Anna2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views , walk to the beach. Very pleasant house . Worked well for having small children with us.

    William 2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautifully decorated family home in the most peaceful setting. It was spotless but comfortable with many little extras for our family which included twins just under 2 years. The kitchen had everything we could have asked for, including a tea kettle & some proper tea! The beds & pillows are soft & the linens are plush, so nice after a long drive. I wish we'd had more time as the contents of the bookshelves were very inviting although we did manage a little birdwatching from the back deck. We even counted a Pileated Woodpecker, a life bird for us. We enjoyed our stay & hope to return soon.

    Jodi2017-10-01T00:00:00Z

  • We loved our stay here. The view is amazing. The kitchen is well stocked as well as extra bedding and toiletries. I would suggest you bring an air mattress if you have more then two in your party. There is one mattress upstairs. The other room has a futon as well as downstairs living room. They are not super comfy especially if you are older with more aches and pains. Other than that I would defiantly stay here again. It was clean and the walk to the beach was super close.

    Annette2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This home is very clean and very beautiful. The jacuzzi faces the ocean. It is very well-equipped. There were enough sheets and towels and blankets for all of us to be comfortable. The house is a thirty minute drive to Fort Bragg which was perfect, but we loved the home so much we didn't even want to leave for Fort Bragg. :-)

    Shokoofeh2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a view! Cute little city! The house is spacious, the deck is great (I would have stayed at the deck longer if it wasn't so windy), it was easy to get there, and the communication with the host and directions to the house were really easy to follow. The only thing is that the description of the house said it had two bedrooms and two beds, and when we got there, one of the beds in the bedrooms was a sofa bed, kinda small and not really comfortable. But other than that, the house is great!

The Villa is a 2 bedroom single floor house, set on one quiet acre, next to MacKerricher state park, and just down the road from Ward ave beach, know by locals as Ten Mile beach. There are two private bedrooms, living room, dining room, a bonus room with two queen sized futons, a Swedish sauna off the bonus room, a large hot tub spa in the back yard. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook, and a dishwasher for ease of clean up. IN the back yard you'll find a large patio area, with table, chairs, gas barbecue, and fire pit. The pictures say it all.
Some local favorites are the Purple Rose Mexican restaurant right around the corner, Beach horse rides at Ricochet Ranch across the street from the Purple Rose, The Seal watching station just west on Mill Creek Rd, a walk along the old Haul Road, a road once used as a private road built by the saw mill, now re-purposed as a paved walking/biking trail. There are great restaurants in Fort Bragg, and further down the road in Mendocino. Fort Bragg has it own micro brewery with it's own restaurant on Pine and Main streets. There are Kayak rentals, and bike rentals. Or just relax and listen to the ocean.
  • This is a wonderful, relaxing retreat! You can easily walk to the ocean or even down to the point of MacKerricher State Park for watching sea lions. We loved getting to use the hot tub and the outdoor fire pit! Ray and Tina were very helpful and accommodating. I'd highly recommend staying here!

  • Ray and Tina met us and gave helpful information about how the house works such as the hot tub and sauna, and how to get to the beach. The beach is very close by and is beautiful. The house is on a large property and is very private. We spent a lot of time on the patio in the sun enjoying the big sky. Lots of great patio furniture too. Inside there is a fireplace, romantic lighting, big TV, full kitchen, and cozy couches. Everything is decorated beautifully. We felt at home there and it had everything we wanted or needed.

    Marsha 2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Ray's home is everything listed & more. The hosts truly pay attention to detail. The backyard is set up for entertainment or relaxation. It definitely has a country feel. It's very quiet. A family of 6 deer greeted us daily. Cable, Wifi, Netflix & Hulu were all available for our use. We would stay here again.

    Angela2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ray and Tina met us at the house to explain where things were and how to work the sauna, hot tub etc. They were great! And the house was perfect for our group: grandparents, and our family of five (kids aged 9, 6 and 18mo.). We only had a couple days of rain and enjoyed the sauna and hot tub especially then. The proximity to the beach was close enough to walk and made long bike rides and jogging possible along the Old Haul Road and 10 mile beach. A few important things that stood out to us were how much attention to detail the hosts put into the house like having a box of muffin mix, muffin liners and a muffin tin to use, sharp knives (if you rent houses often you know how rare this is to find!) and tupperware for your leftovers or when taking snacks to the beach. In short, we were perfectly at home here.

    Monique2017-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of six had a wonderful stay at the Villa Del Mare. Tina and Ray were lovely hosts and met us on our arrival. Their home had all the comforts and we enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. Location was awesome and it was so peaceful and quiet. We would highly recommend this home.

  • This clean, quiet, and well-appointed home was the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. It served as the perfect hub for our exploration of the coast. Pamela provided all the comforts of home. I highly recommend Cypress Dunes.

  • Such a great experience staying here this weekend. Comfortably housed my group of 6. The grill requires coal, bring your own along with lighter fluid. Also the hot tub comfortably fit 6 people, if they only put their feet in which is what we did. If you plan to submerge your self, hot tub fits 2 people max. Kitchen is fully equipped, has about everything you need. I would stay here again if I decide to return to have a weekend in fort bragg.

  • A beautiful, peaceful property adjacent to unlimited dunes and coastline to explore! Pictures and descriptions of MacKerricher State Park don't do it justice- it's amazing. The property is accurately described in the listing. The furniture and beds are new and comfortable. The bedrooms and living/dining room are roomy. The bathrooms and kitchen are cozier, but they have everything you need. Pamela was very responsive, helpful, and friendly. Reservations, check in, and check out were quick and trouble free. Don't be dissuaded by the lack of reviews. Once the word gets out that this is an awesome place to stay, that will quickly change!

    Beth2016-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • When my sister and I booked our weekend at Pamela's Cypress Dunes we did not realize we would be among the guests. It was a 60th birthday present for our mom meant for her and her friends, but she chose to bring family and we are glad she did! The property is beautiful and well kept. The house is clean, comfortable and well stocked with towels blankets, dishes, almost everything you need! The beach access was the best part, even though it was storming like crazy when we were there! The "trail" was nothing short of AMAZING! My family is very outdoorsy and we had so much fun navigating through the largest dunes we have ever seen(you could totally get lost in the desert like terrain), picking up sand dollars, identifying new plants... And Glass beach in Fort Bragg is a must see! We are from coastal Northern California so it was especially nice finding a place somewhat close that can offer us a completely different view of our ocean and new things to explore. We will be back!

The place was very comfortable and had plenty of towels, blankets, sheets and the kitchen is well stocked in case you want to dine in. This was a girlfriends getaway, Cypress Dunes was perfect for us, we enjoyed the accommodations, serenity of the location, sitting in the spa and star gazing. The hikes to the beach were awesome, as well as going into town for lunch and sightseeing. Visiting nearby MacKerricher, State Park was a great experience too. The ocean views are a true representation of Northern California. Great location for a getaway!!!

A home unique in so many ways sitting out on the tip of a peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean in three directions. The views are not only breathtaking but you become part of the view as it clings to the rock out over the sea. It seems as though it were meant for a lighthouse that is there as a landmark to say hello to the to passing birds, migrating whales .... A place to get away from the world and rejuvenate your senses with the sounds of the sea on natures wonderland. Sea u here
Besides being a dream vacation. There are many beaches nearby and private little coves to find. The sand dunes that go for miles are in view or easy to get to. There's many restaurants in town. There are many hiking trails with Adventures through redwoods and waterfalls. Kayaking is also very popular in the many nearby Rivers. There's also lots of Arts and Cultural Events with music and wine tasting not far away
This is a small community of about a dozen homes in the setting of The Sea along the cove surrounded with many Pines and Coastal cypress trees. This home is at the end of the road for privacy. The Neighbourhood is wonderful and the people here are the nicest neighbors I've ever had. Other than the sound of the sea, people playing on the beach below and sea life it's very peaceful and quiet here

Lovely japanese-style room with sliding shoji screens and real 2.5" thick tatami mat floors.
The home normally rents out for approximtely $600/night for groups wishing exclusive access to the entire home. This listing is for one of the two rooms downstairs available for rent, a lovely Japanese-style room with sliding shoji screen doors. There is a new queen size mattress on an asian-inspired platform bed. The floor is made from 2.5" thick tatami floor mats. Note that while the screens are beautiful and completely close off the room, they are made of wood and laminated paper so it's not quite as private. For additional privacy, I've recently added a large full-length curtain to the outside of the room as well. The other room for rent, a more formal bedroom which has a nice queen size bed and a view facing the ocean, can be seen in a 2nd listing here on airbnb - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/842385. There is a full bathroom available for use downstairs which will be shared if the other bedroom is occupied. If you rent both available rooms, you would also have sole access to large open yoga/exercise area with 2 additional futons for sleeping and the full bathroom mentioned above. Groups larger than 4 pay an additional $25/night per person. You are very welcome to share the common living areas upstairs including kitchen, living room, hot tub, decks, etc. Please note that I also shy away from renting to guests with smaller children since I want to be able to ensure a tranquil retreat for all guests. If you are into cooking, the kitchen is fully stocked for your use including Vitamix, KitchenAId Mixer, oven, mircowave, etc. I do rent the entire house out at times under a separate listing here if that is of interest to you.
8 minute drive to the center of Fort Bragg for resturant, groceries or shopping.
  • Ted's home was even nicer than described, and it's a stunningly beautiful stretch of coastline. He is a great host, involved in interesting projects and friendly and interesting to talk to. Everything was very comfortable and I'd highly recommend staying with him.

  • We had a great stay at Ted's place. The house itself is beautiful - modern, well decorated, with a fantastic view of the ocean. Our room was comfortable and the tatami on the floor was a nice touch. Ted was easy to communicate with and helped us by recommending a few nearby restaurants. We would recommend staying here!

Ted's gentle and gregarious manners ensured our comfort and antisipated our needs. I had a wonderful and comfortable time. The Sea Sentuary leaves nothing to be desired.

  • This was my first ever stay in an Airbnb home, Ted's calm and welcoming manner instantly put me at ease. There were no other properties between Ted's house and the Ocean, just a very quiet lane and a walking path. The accommodation was spacious with a light, airy and tranquil vibe was perfectly clean and comfortable and the surroundings were great for a peaceful retreat. As far as I could see, own transport was a necessity for this location. Having said that I wish that I could have abandoned by car and my road trip and stayed right there!
