Park
“Pugneys Country Park is situated to the west of Wakefield city centre, one mile from junction 39 of the M1. The 300 acre park provides a venue for formal and informal leisure and recreational pursuits. Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing are very popular and there are facilities for hire, tuition and for the public to launch their own equipment. Cycling is also very popular and the park operates a rental service. There are a number of walks with good footpath links to Sandal Castle where there are spectacular views to the west along the Calder Valley. ”

Bakery
“Its a beautiful cafe and also serves meals. Its very popular with the locals and can be combined with a country walk or even a visit to Yorkshire Sculpture park which is in a similar area. I always get nicely tempted in the flower shop and the farm shop !”

“Theatre Royal Wakefield is one of the smallest remaining Matcham theatre auditoriums; it is a shining example of his work and demonstrates his incredible ability to deliver a beautiful theatrical environment within a very tight space. Matcham made what were ground-breaking changes, as he dispensed with the idea of public boxes flanking the Theatre stage and utilised the concept of boxes at the rear of the dress circle seating area.”
