Looking for a vacation rental cabin in Sumpter, Oregon? Well, look no more! The Lazy Moose Cabin is a vacation rental cabin that offers lodging accommodations year-round. The Lazy Moose Cabin offers an intimate retreat for 2. The cabin is tastefully decorated in a wildlife theme and is outfitted and supplied with just about anything you will need for your fun vacation in Sumpter. The cabin is located in the City Limits just 3 blocks east of the Downtown District.
This Vacation Cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, queen bed, and a TV/VCR/DVD (movies can be rented at the Gold Post Mercantile or Stage Stop Service Station & Groceries, or bring your own). If you have an RV in your party, the Cabin has hook-ups for an RV (electric, water & sewer) for an additional $25.00 per night (4 guest maximum in RV area). The RV space is available from Mid-May through Mid-October. Maximum RV length accommodated is 28'.
At the Lazy Moose Cabin Rental, you can jump on your Snowmobile or ATV and ride across the road from your cabin to the Snowmobile Trailhead. Ride your snowmobiles or ATVs on over 350 miles of beautifully groomed trails. Other Winter recreational activities include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. During the Summer and Fall, enjoy fishing, hunting, hiking and boating (Phillip's Reservoir) or panning for gold. During your stay, visit the Sumpter Municipal Museum, the Cracker Creek Museum of Mining, the Sumpter Valley Dredge, and the Sumpter Valley Railroad (these attractions are open May through September). Take a leisurely drive on the Anthony Lakes Loop Road. The Anthony Lakes Road has spectacular scenery for which the Anthony Lakes Area is famous. The loop and its spurs overlook lush high meadow basins, glacial lakes, craggy ridges, and rugged peaks. In the summertime, Alpine wild flowers paint the meadows, forest, and granite outcroppings (road closed during Winter). Do you enjoy hiking? Day hike the Elkhorn Crest Trail. The trail begins at Marble Pass (7600') and concludes at Anthony Lakes (7800') with climbs up to 8400'. This very scenic route follows the ridge of the Elkhorn Range, and totals 24 miles, but most hikers simply day hike the trail to Twin Lakes, which is a great way to spend a day. You will encounter awesome vistas from the Elkhorn Crest Trail skyline.
  • Really cute place. A perfect cabin getaway. Allowed pets but didn't smell at all like pets had ever been there. Super clean and easy to check in and out.

  • Quaint small cabin - Perfect for an over night getaway for 1-2 people. Love that they accept pets.

  • The Lazy Moose will be one of the best places you can stay in that area. Clean, well-stocked, quiet, and comfortable. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

  • This cabin in the woods was a great escape from the real world. Plenty of hiking and exploring in this quaint little town. The bed was comfy and the decor was prefect for this location. We will come again :)

  • Great place to stay! This was our 3rd time staying here and it is always fantastic time.

  • Very cozy and lovely cabin just outside central Sumpter. Really easy walk to all the local sights. Will definitely be visiting again.

    Sean2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This little cabin was perfect for our short get away. Very cozy and comfortable for the two of us, very well appointed. We definitely would stay there again if we were going to be in that general area. We used it as a base to visit Anthony Lakes, Wallowa Lake, Haines, Baker City, and Sumpter. We drove too much for our short visit, but it was wonderful to return to this cabin each evening to sleep in the comfortable bed.

    Linda2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was very cozy, bed was very comfortable. The road to the cabin was a little rough for a car but we made it work.

  • Wonderful low risk adventure. We don't live so far away, but have never had a reason to go to Sumpter. Now we plan to go back. We had a great time staying in the Tipi and plan to come back with our grandkids in tow. There's space for a campfire and the stars are endless. What a fun time!

    Devin2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in one of the tipis while on a motorcycle trip out to Hells Canyon and really enjoyed our experience! Sumpter is a wonderful little town, and the onsite store full of items the hosts have collected over the years was nothing short of amazing. The art was particularly noteworthy. Would definitely stay here again.

New on Airbnb! This is a cute remodeled Tiny Home perfect for extended stay workers. A full kitchen with an oven, full size fridge, but no dishwasher. Lots of natural wood through out the space. You will share the front deck seating and Bar-B-Que with our first Tiny.
We have a bit of a view of the Strawberries from the front deck and South facing windows. We are located a half block from Downtown, so close to shopping and restaurants. we are 15 minutes from hiking the Strawberries and the Malhuer Forest. So much to see and do with nature in this area. A true hidden jem of Oregon.
We are small town USA. A great experience. We are right across the street from the volunteer Fire Dept. The siren goes off every day at noon and every Thursday evening before their weekly meeting. Please feel free to take the kids big and little over to see the equipment and talk with the firefighters. The grocery store is closed on Sundays and evenings by 7.
  • Excellent place to stay in Prairie City! So much more convenient, cheaper, and cleaner than a motel room!

  • Perfect size tiny home for my coworker & I! We are here out of town from work, 30 hours away and we were extremely lucky to find this place! Lauralyn is quick to respond and extremely helpful! My pup loved having the small town to explore :) Walking distance to everything in Prairie & extremely convenient laundromat is right outside!

    Paige2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Very efficient use of tiny home space. The home has everything you need. Quick, thorough, personable responses from the host. Wasn't disturbed once during the entire week stay so they will let you enjoy your stay in peace. Will def book again next time I pass through

    Kenneth2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • I was in town for work for 3 weeks, and luckily found Lauralyn’s place and it’s amazing. Like the advertisement; a not so tiny tiny home. Once I was inside, the place is much bigger than it seems outside. The place was really clean, comfortable bed and arrangements. And she is really responsive, usually responds right away, even called and walked me thru some stuff when I was asking questions. Great place, will definitely stay again.

    Yiqiang2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent place to stay for short or long term. It has every amenity a person could need, and more. It is clean and comfortable and tucked into a quiet, little town that may be too quiet for some, but the key is to explore the surrounding areas. For there is plenty of outdoor adventuring to be had, and nearby towns. The owners know how to construct a tiny home and make it comfortable, classy even. We were even able to keep our cat here; dog lovers, you will be welcomed. Overall, you will be pleased with what you find at Lauralyn's place in Prairie City, OR.

    Catherine2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to stay while enjoying Eastern Oregon! My kids declared the loft to be "epic!" Lauralyn is very responsive.

  • It turned out to be a thunder storm on our trip, so Russ's place was the perfect little cozy cabin for my husband and I.

    Saleana2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • I brought my newborn here for a place to get away for some quiet while my family camp at. The cabin was perfect, cozy with a beautiful view and a very nice patio. Everyone was very friendly and approachable. Sumpter is beautiful but don’t tell anyone.

    Matthew2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised. Nice place to stay and visit

    Douglas2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was the perfect little getaway for my husband and I. Russ was an amazing host. He was very helpful and very quick with response time, we also had plenty of privacy. Sumpter is a great little town full of history, and great walking trails. The cabin is small, but prefect for a couple. The restaurant next door has really great food and excellent service. I would taste or whole experience as a 5 star. We will definitely be back!

    Amanda2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place, has everything you need and comfortable added bonus there is a restaurant next door and the food is delicious. Everything you need to relax and chill.

    Raeanne2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Russ’s description is on point. The directions he gave were easy to follow and very specific so it made check in super smooth. The dredge is right behind it and I didn’t realize that was there on my previous visits to sumpter so I was very excited about that too. The only bummer was that the restaurant out front was closed during the posted evening hours but we just went down the street for something to eat. We can’t wait to come back and stay again.

The studio includes a queen sized bed, dresser, TV, keurig, small refrigerator, bathroom with standing shower, toilet and vanity, heat and WiFi.

  • Elaine’s place is nothing short of charming! Check in was so easy, especially since we were running behind because of traffic. The bed was extremely comfortable with wonderful flannel sheets! All of the decor was thoughtfully chosen and placed. An added bonus- Wild Turkey (not the whiskey) met us at our door along with deer right on property! All and all this was way beyond what we were expecting and if you get the chance to stay at Elaines, do not hesitate book immediately!

  • Awesome spot in a beautiful area! Everything thing was super clean and the space was amazing! Definitely would stay there again!

  • I would highly recommend Elaine’s Bonanza Suite. It is spotless, cozy, comfy and quiet. Nestled in the yellow pines of the Elkhorn Mountain Range. The suite is separate from the main house with convenient off street parking. A visit to this community is like stepping back in time.

    Darlene2019-09-26T00:00:00Z

  • Very nice quiet place. Enjoyed the small mountain town of Sumpter. Highly recommend.

    Marty2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend! The bed was comfy and our hosts had thought of every detail from a fridge- coffee maker, and a hair dryer to providing extras such as water bottles and fancy shampoo,! The hosts were very friendly and gave us tips on where to go in town as well as some interesting tidbits about the area! We would love to stay here again!

    Kevin2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • The room is a work in progress, but it was clean and neat. The antique-looking, massive wood bed frame is really unusual and the mattress is quite high off the floor, but it was very comfortable. The setting is basically in the woods with deer and turkeys roaming between the rustic-looking homes. The hostess is very accommodating and friendly. Nice people. We would stop there again.

What a joy to spend a night at home and what a pleasure to find when we awoke a breakfast that was waiting for us with fresh and local products. What a welcome ! Michelle is a radiant woman. We were very happy to meet her. The bedroom and the bathroom are spacious and clean. The atmosphere is calm and warm. Dixie Creek Bungalows is located just a half a block from Historic downtown Prairie City. Walking distance from anything you may need while in town. We may not have a view but we have a great cozy environment inside and out for you to enjoy and relax in. Only 15 minutes from the Strawberries and John Day. A great spot when visiting the Painted Hills, Sumpter or just passing through to Joseph or Idaho.
Dixie Creek Bungalow is a Park model size tiny home with many big comforts. Located in the heart of historic Prairie City with the Strawberry Wilderness as a backdrop. We only use environmentally friendly cleaning products, mostly from Young Living Essential Oils. This 360 sq ft tiny home is complete and oh so cute and comfy! There is a full bathroom complete with a tub and endless hot water with the tank less water heater. The master bedroom can be closed off from the rest of the house. There is a narrow staircase to the 5' loft where you will find two twin beds and a fun space for games or DVD watching. We have beautiful woodwork throughout and the large shared front deck is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset and BBQ a nice dinner. There are two window boxes of herbs that are available for your use. We do not have WiFi, but plenty of fun DVD's and games. A good time to disconnect! We sleep and seat 4 comfortably, six is possible with the queen hide-a-bed though it makes sitting a tight squeeze.
We are located right across the street from the Prairie City Volunteer Fire department behind the Washing Well Laundromat, with a good sized gravel parking lot. Every day at noon the siren goes off which really adds to the small town feel. If by chance you are there for a real call, the response is something to experience. There is a 24 hour laundromat on the premises. Please note at this time we do not have internet access. But it is available in nearby coffee shops and the Mexican restaurant.
  • Nice place and convenient.

  • Lauralyns place #1 was perfect for our needs. Location and laundry room next door made it a perfect fit for what we searched for. The price was great plus communication was excellent and quick. We will rent from her many more times in the Spring time and in the Summer.

  • Cute place

    Barbara2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This not-so-tiny, tiny house space is adorable, cozy, spacious (the loft is a fun space for kids of all ages up to age 98 as long as they can climb stairs), and well equipped with kitchen utensils and colorful dishes, games and DVDs, 2 TVs, a Bose radio, books, and best of all: luxurious linens! No WiFi here, but this is a perfect place to leave the grid behind. The "downtown" is quaint and fun to explore. And your view to the south is the magnificent Strawberry Mountains. I hope you love it as much as I did.

    Patricia2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • We felt right at home in this little space. So much better than any hotel could provide. We loved being able to make our meals there and the accommodations were super comfortable. The loft was a perfect place for our kids to hang out and sleep. We will definitely be back!

    Kimberly2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great tiny house but great space for everyone. It has all the stuff that a hotel room has but is better because you have the whole place to your selves and don’t have to worry it’s nice a quiet too. Has a place to sit on the deck and visit with your family and friends. Very clean and comfy. Thanks again Lauralyn and Allen for such a great place

    Sharon2019-09-09T00:00:00Z

  • Beautiful little cabin in the woods a home away from home. Cozy and quiet little town. Check in and out was simple and easy. The quality of the cabin was way better than expected. It was perfect placement too! Close to everything and easy to find! If you go in the winter you HAVE to try the little cafe down the road! Nugget Coffee and Cafe. Their breakfast croissant and breakfast burrito are AMAZING! Be sure to get the burrito smothered in gravy! Mmmmm

Lone Wolf Lodge was built in 2011 and renovated in 2019. It is a quiet, remote, nature lover’s location inside the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, on the way up Dooley Mountain. Being in the National Forest it is easy access to logging roads and almost endless hiking trails. Bring your ATV, hike to your heart’s content, or drive to the top of the mountain and enjoy the view.
The house sits on 10 acres of mountainside and stream bottomland. It has 2 downstairs bedrooms, one with a king size bed and one with a full-size futon bed. It also has a large loft with 2 queen size beds. The single bathroom is large, containing a walk-in shower as well as the washer and dryer. A full kitchen is complete with a kitchen table that seats 6+, coffee maker, stove, dishwasher, microwave, and side by side refrigerator. The kitchen is open into the living room which has seating for 8+ and a large-screen tv with a Roku for access to your own accounts with Netflix, Prime, Hulu, etc. The yard is fenced, with a rustic bench under the pines, to sit, listen to the stream gurgle, and watch as the sun comes over the mountain each morning. A stream runs just outside the fence behind the house, so children should be supervised when outdoors. Mule deer, wild turkeys, antelope, and elk have been seen on the hillside behind the house. Mountain lion, bear, and a wolf have been seen, on occasion, further up the road at higher altitude. The yard/drive has keypad access with ample parking and a carport space for 2 vehicles. Access to the house is also by keypad. A picnic table is onsite for guests’ use. Due to forest fire concerns NO open fires are allowed!
Located in the National Forest, we are 14 miles from Baker City, 23 miles from the Steam Railroad in Sumpter via the Elkhorn Scenic Byway which passes Phillips Reservoir Recreation area, and 36 miles from Ski Anthony Lakes.
  • Space was clean and comfortable. Host had quick response to questions. Plenty of amenities that we were not lacking anything.

  • This is truly a hidden gem. It is very nicely remodeled with any amenity you would ever need. The master bedroom is very well done and very comfortable. the upstairs loft is huge with two queen beds. It has a cute back sunroom with a computer where you can look out into the yard and soak up the sun. We have enjoyed staying and would return for a visit.

  • Michelle and Don were very welcoming and friendly from the moment we arrived. Our party of four rented both of the available rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The small hospitality touches like the breakfast spread in the mornings and desert and wine in the evenings were really appreciated! We had plenty of space to stretch out and converse among our group and never felt like we were intruding on our hosts' daily lives. When our paths did cross, we had a great time chatting with Michelle and Don. The outdoor patio area was a favorite hangout. Easy stroll down the road to Prairie City's main street. Great access to the Strawberry Mountains and Magone Lake. Had a wonderful time!
