Park
“15 minutes up the road is The DuPont State Forest. The Park is known for several spectacular waterfalls, as well as miles of biking, hiking, and horseback trails. Several of our cover photos are from there and it is a magnificent place. It might be somewhat familiar to you if you have ever seen the movie “The Hunger Games” and “The Last of the Mohicans.” I think there are tours if you’re interested. The hiking to the waterfalls is more of a long walk. There are no food vendors nearby.”

“Sliding Rock is a waterfall in Western North Carolina, located near Brevard, so named because visitors can slide all the way down the waterfall into the plunge pool below. Sliding Rock is a small slide-type waterfall on Looking Glass Creek, in the Pisgah National Forest, near Brevard, North Carolina. It has a gentle slope and is about 60 feet long, ending in a large, deep pool (between 6–7 feet deep) at the bottom. ”

“Water Fall just off the road, Highway 276 (Old Wagon Gap Road). This section of HWY 276 has a lot to offer, so a great day trip from Asheville, just outside the little town of Brevard, NC. Visit the Fish Hatchery and Education Center, Sliding Rock, Pink Beds, Cradle of Forestry and access the Blue Ridge Parkway around Mile Marker 300, near Pisgah Inn (have lunch at Pisgah Inn or in the town of Brevard).”

Park
“Although it's a little farther away (about 35 minutes), this park is one of our favorites. Just take 64 west and stay on it (that'll require a left turn at the first traffic light, and a second left once you're in Brevard, just follow the signs for 64 west) a little over 20 miles. Once you get to the Lake Toxaway/Sapphire area, turn left onto NC 281. Go about a mile and turn left onto Grassy Ridge Rd. The park has an awesome visitor center, and just one trail - about 3 miles round trip to Rainbow Falls, and another 1/2 mile each way to Turtleback Falls. The hike is moderate, enjoyable and with a nice swimming hole at the top, with the option to slide down Turtleback Falls (a 20-foot drop) for the daring. It's a hike our whole family enjoys, especially in the summer when there's often a gelato stand in the trailhead parking lot (useful for bribing children to finish the hike). ”

“Skinny Dip Falls – One of our all-time favorite hikes and swimming spots, this ½ mile hike leads to a gorgeous set of falls with crystal-clear, ice-cold pools for swimming. Bring a mask! Extremely busy on summer weekends. Take the Blue Ridge Parkway south to mile marker 417. Park in the Looking Glass Rock overlook on the left. Cross the road and follow the path which begins just next to the mile marker. Go a couple hundred yards and look for wooden stairs leading up and to the left. Take these steps and continue on the trail for approx. ½ mile down to the creek. Prepare to be amazed. ”
