Vacation Rentals in Topsham

Just booked in Topsham

Enjoy uninterrupted quiet on the Maine coast in our light-filled oceanfront cabin. Just 5 mins from lovely Boothbay Harbor for kayaking, sailing, hiking, seafood tasting, you name it! Or just relax at the cabin in a stunning natural setting.
Enjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet on the Maine coast in this sweet, rustic cabin perfect for artists, writers, or anyone else wanting to unplug and unwind for a few days or weeks. This charming cabin, built in 1982, is situated only 50 feet from the water's edge, and, with only one house visible through the woods, it is difficult to find a more private location than this. The cabin is of rustic design, with one private bedroom and single common area that includes a kitchenette, eat-in table, couch, and TV (no cable though). Above the common area is a loft with a double bed mattress, accessible by a wooden ladder. Off the common area is an enclosed composting toilet. There is no shower so all washing up must be done in the bath tub. There is no internet or telephone connection. The small wood stove is no longer functional, but three portable electric heaters are kept permanently in the cabin for any chilly Maine nights. Such simple living is certainly not for everyone, but can be a tremendous treat for those interested in enjoying this beautiful natural setting. The cabin looks over a salt river (Back River) which is part of the ocean but looks more like a river/lake due to the protection of Barter's Island across the water. The cove that the cabin sits on is tidal, which means that half the time you are looking at the ocean and half the time it is a natural mud flat. So the view changes every 6 hours! To enjoy the water to its fullest when the tide is up, a double kayak may be rented from the property owners at a very reasonable rate. The cabin is located 5 minutes drive from lovely Boothbay Harbor, a stunning destination for travelers of all kinds. Enjoy fine local seafood, kayaking, whale watching, sunset sailing trips, and the charming downtown with its quaint shops. There are also many beautiful walking trails through the Boothbay Region Land Trust, along with one of the world's finest botanical gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only 2 miles from the cabin. The owners of the cabin live on the adjacent property so any questions or concerns can be immediately addressed.
  • This cabin was the perfect getaway from the city! The wooded setting was perfect, the cabin was cozy, comfortable, and private, and we were supplied with everything we needed (cooking supplies, towels/linens, basic toiletries, etc.). I would definitely recommend the cabin to friends and would plan to go back.

  • This was perfect. Just what me and my boyfriend were hoping for from a cabin on the water in Maine. The cabin is rustic, well-appointed, and had everything we needed to make ourselves at home, as well as the equipment for some excellent lobster feasts. We loved eating breakfast and drinking our morning tea while watching the birds in the two chairs by the water and the cabin was cozy at night, though we were glad we brought extra sweatshirts. It got COLD! :) The hosts were wonderful, giving us uninterrupted privacy, and we almost forgot they were there. It's quite a special spot.

  • This is an adorable cabin with clean and adequate furniture, utensils, and linens. Personally, I found the attic was an interesting place, while I slept, I was almost blanketed by the whole starry sky. The owner is helpful and generous, I loved the kayak trip, thanks.

  • We had a lovely time at the cabin. It was perfect for relaxing and getting away from it all. Directions were clear, and we had everything we needed!

  • We had a lovely time at the cabin. Everything is just as it seems in the pictures. Would definitely book another stay.

  • Our stay at the cabin near Boothbay Harbor this past few days was just an unbelievable experience. You choose: breakfast inside or outside, depending on the sea level it can be nice either way since the cabin leaves you the full sight towards the beauty of the nature! We rented out their kayak, went for several bike rides and enjoyed a nice boat trip! Fresh lobster is the best! Thanks to Mike, our host! :-) We definitively recommend this cabin to everyone, who needs a little of that peaceful time in privacy and nature. Thanks 1000x

  • Ian's cabin in the woods was the perfect getaway for my boyfriend and I. We had such a great experience that we feel so sad and not at all ready to leave and go back to our real life in New York :( we would recommend this place to everyone, especially if you are looking for quiet seclusion, peace from work and city life, and just need to be around nature and simple living. It was so nice to be disconnected from technology, and to just read, go hiking, and relax in their gorgeous bathtub. The compost toilet definitely was a first and took some time getting used to, but was not an issue. It felt like being home, and was in every way just wonderful. We want to come back here as much as we possibly can, and loved every second of our stay. Thank you Ian, Mike and Karen, as well as Boothbay! We are so happy we found you.

Our one bedroom rental is cozy and private, yet right on Main Street! DQ is two houses down! The tiny kitchen nook has just enough amenities for a short stay. This house used to be a Black Smith barn and now host a flower shop on one side, your private home with private entrance for the weekend on the other. Close to Brunswick downtown and Bowdoin college. You can walk into Brunswick
Plenty of parking and we have bicycles available for your use. The bike path is super close and you can be in Downtown Brunswick in less than five minutes. You'll have a key to your little home for privacy and security and a tray to leave your dishes on in the hall and we'll do the washing! Also a washer and dryer are available if you need that service.
We are located in Middle Village, a historic part of Topsham, Maine.
  • Great location and Wendy was amazing to communicate with. Will be staying again !

    Devan2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and Jeff are excellent hosts and the space was exceptional. It’s also a close walk to downtown and for the price it’s hard to beat.

    Liam2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and Jeff's place was cute and comfy. Wendy was very nice, greeted us upon arrival and was helpful with directions and giving us ideas for dinner. A quick easy walk to downtown area in Brunswick and very near to the Androscoggin Topsham-Brunswick River walk. Or a super easy drive to many areas. It was a great alternative to a hotel room.

    Kari2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Wendy N Jeff's sweet little cottage! Fantastic central location just a few minutes from downtown Brunswick. The cottage showcases the couple's artistic skills with loving attention to every little detail like Jeff's awesome woodwork skills. We loved the exposed beam accents, sliding barn door closet and the clever hidden, slide out waste box. The kitchenette was perfectly stocked with artisan coffee (along with a handy French press) cold white wine and a jug of bottled water. The most memorable part of our stay was how genuinely warm and helpful Wendy is. We are already planning our next stay.

    stefani2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and Jeff have taken extra effort to ensure their guests have a great stay, with games and books readily available for that evening challenge or rainy day. The location is fabulous and the apartments rustic/industrial décor is charming. We wish them well and hope to see them again soon.

    Karen2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • The space was very comfortable. Very cute, neat, and clean. Easy access to bicycle and walking trails, shops and restaurants. Wendy and Jeff were welcoming and friendly. There if we needed them, invisible when we didn't.

    Jody2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful time and a great space! Most definitely would come again.

    Megan2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy & Jeff are awesome hosts. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The unit is a renovated blacksmith shop and is really cool with original beams. Jeff has done a besutiful job upgrading the unit and we did not want for anything. Very clean, comfortable with plenty of towels. I would stay with them again in a heartbeat. Just fantastic! Book it - you won't regret.

Welcome to the Mid Coast!. Lobster, shops, restaurants! Walking trails! Beaches! Beautiful even in the fall and winter! Our convenient location on a main road is perfect for travelers. We are close to Bath, Brunswick, Topsham, Orr's/Bailey Island, Freeport. No stress, carefree area with friendly people, beautiful scenery and many places to explore that are free of charge and uncrowded.
Welcome to your warm and toasty home away from home! You are going to love our vented propane heater with flaming logs and woodstove ambiance! No drafty cottage space filled with space heaters! Warmer weather predicted for Wednesday, February 21st! Walk on the beach! We are a well-insulated year round rental. Half of the suite was newly built in 2013. We offer a good value in desirable Harpswell and our location is excellent (as noted by many of our guests) for getting out and exploring the area and beyond. No added cleaning fee! Pet free space! Don't forget that summer is just around the corner when it comes to booking a place in desirable Harpswell! We fill up every summer. Please note: A few pre-summer dates not showing up on our calendar may be available with longer minimum stay, specific dates and past favorable Airbnb guest reviews. Inquire with us directly. Our place offers tidal waterfront access and sitting area across road for taking in the view and summer swimming. Super soft cotton sheets and a duvet on the very comfortable queen bed. If you reserve with us, upon your arrival we promise to give you all the local insider tips to make your stay even more enjoyable. Please read our description and house rules carefully in their entirety and let us know if you have any questions. There is a lot here, so you may want to print out the information. This information is best viewed on a desktop or notebook computer. Many of our efficiency suite photos are Airbnb Verified. Our 488 square foot (45 sq meters) suite on one level (slight step up between rooms) with private entrance, bedroom area, efficiency kitchenette (see details below) and private shower bath is new, bright, airy (lots of windows and high ceilings), well-insulated and very inviting! The decor is comfortable and eclectic rather than contemporary. Lovely views of the water from our property! You have your own personal sun space with gas grill, table and chairs outside, plus feel to use our fire pit. (inquire about our seasonal fire pit in advance) And check out our little sitting space across the road - a spectacular view and a tidal "swimming hole". All use of this area is at your own risk. Water shoes are recommended. Many of our recent Airbnb guests are scoping out the area for real estate. It's becoming a hot market around here. This would be a great place to "hang your hat" while you check out properties. We personally know several local realtors. We want you to be happy, so please feel free to request anything that might make your stay more enjoyable. Delicious, chemical free water from our well for drinking and showering. Coffee, tea, coffee filters, cream and basic seasonings provided. Please note that we don't have a full kitchen (best described as an efficiency kitchenette - no stove/range), but we have many very efficient small appliances and a kitchen sink, so you can get by fairly well with the cookware and appliances provided. The suite kitchenette area features a refrigerator, separate upright freezer, kitchen sink, microwave (in bedroom area), countertop convection oven (with toaster feature), coffee maker, single serve hot water dispenser, single state of the art induction cooktop (works great, heats up quickly, requires pans that we provide), electric wok, electric skillet, slow cooker, pots and pans, cooking utensils and silverware. Please note that you can't use all of the high wattage appliances at one time, but you can now use the cooktop and the convection toaster oven at the same time. We ask for our guests to stick with light cooking rather than deep fat frying or other strong odor cooking methods. For the sake of our subsequent guests, we prefer no cooking of lobster inside the suite. You can order lobsters cooked to order for eat in or take out about 1 minute up the road at Gurnet Trading. The suite has a queen bed in the bedroom and a pullout queen size couch in the living room. The queen bed features super soft cotton sheets and a duvet. Both rooms have cathedral ceilings and ceiling fans. The living area has rough-hewn beams that are original to the house. The living room area has two skylights, a 42 in HDTV with super expanded cable including movie channels such as HBO, Starz and Cinemax. We also provide Netflix and a dvd player (there are some dvds in the suite and many other dvds readily available -just ask). RedBox is at several locations close by. We offer wifi and an ethernet "hard wire" adapter for NetFlix or for connecting a laptop. The bedroom area has an air conditioner window unit. Realistically our suite is most ideal for a couple, however a family with one teenager or a small child or three (friends or family) adults should be comfortable. Please note that our suite is NOT child proofed. The suite adjoins our home and is separated by a wall from our kitchen. The private entrance and the bedroom part of the suite are at the very back of our house. Like any homeowners with a private well and septic system, we ask that you be mindful of water usage. That said, we have continuous hot water, so you will never run out of hot water and the water pressure is great for taking showers! Chlorine free! Two supermarkets are just up the road (7 minute drive - Shaw's or Walmart), so you can easily get provisions for your stay. Zach's store (2 minute drive) has an excellent selection of wine, beer, liquor, pizza and some groceries. If you want a big breakfast, we will be happy to recommend one of the local breakfast spots. Our schedules may take us away from our home at times, so we will leave instructions for entering the attached suite and be available by cellphone if you have any questions or concerns. If you need to use the pullout couch, please let us know in advance and we will get it ready for you. There is the possibility of the use of a queen air mattress if it is available at the time of your stay. Please note as previously stated that we are on a busy main road, but the suite is at the back of our house away from the road, so there is very little road noise. Our house sits on a two acre piece of property in an extremely convenient location for heading out on adventures - in this case, living on a main road is a perk. We are less than 20 minutes from several small beaches and about 30 minutes from two state park beaches. We will gladly provide coolers, cool packs, beach towels and a beach sheet. If you have kayaks or bicycles, bring them along! There are many public boat launches in the area and some good areas for bicycling as well, particularly the nearby former Navy base. There are also kayak rentals and arranged kayak tours available as well as sailboat, schooner, ferry and charter boat tours. (seasonal) We're happy to offer suggestions!
We are in a residential area conveniently located to many of the area highlights. You will need a car to get around, but the driving is easy! This area is alive and thriving all year long! Easy 45 minute ride to the spectacular Christmas season light show - Gardens Aglow at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Harpswell is a paradise for lobster lovers and for those who love seafood of all kinds. Unspoiled beauty abounds! Nearby Brunswick is a college town, so there's plenty to do here - lots of restaurants, several museums and beaches and trails that you can walk along every day of the year. We love our town! Harpswell (population 5,000 but definitely a little bigger in the summer) has more coastline than any other town on the East coast - 216 miles in all!! We are literally surrounded by saltwater here. We are directly across the road from the New Meadows River. This saltwater river goes out to Casco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our home is located midway between the fun and charming town of Brunswick and the city of Bath (The City of Ships, voted "best main street" recently) We are on Great Island in Harpswell on the way to Orr's Island and Bailey Island (all part of Harpswell). Eat out in one of our local ethnic, seafood or American unique or chain restaurants, visit the Bowdoin College campus, take in a show at Maine State Music Theatre, attend a summer music concert, do some yoga or zumba at a local studio, or drive and explore the coast. The possibilities are endless and affordable. This area is a year-round destination for enjoying Maine hospitality and scenery. Grocery stores and many shops and restaurants are within 5 to 15 minutes by car. There is a highly rated "seafood shack" (byob or buy beer and wine) with takeout and a country store with an excellent beer, wine and alcohol selection just about 2 minutes away by car. Another favorite outdoor seafood place (byob) - Erica's - is located on the other side of Harpswell and is open from Mother's Day Weekend to Columbus Day Weekend. Our location is a wonderful gateway to fun and exploration! This area is ideal for those who want to kayak, bicycle or go on leisurely hikes. Bring your kayaks, bicycles, bathing suit and walking shoes! Kayak tours offered in the area with all gear provided or you can rent kayaks and explore on your own. Harpswell and the neighboring towns of Topsham, Bath and Brunswick have many nature preserves, hiking trails, public boat launches, a riverfront bicycle trail, river and ocean views and walks. What's really great is that many of the natural scenery can be enjoyed for free - so you can plan a whole day for only the cost of your food - brown bag it, get takeout, or dine in a restaurant. There are 184 restaurants in total in the towns of Harpswell, Brunswick, Bath and Topsham according to TripAdvisor. For nature enthusiasts, get a taste of what you can see by going to the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust website. Brunswick also has Bowdoin College with Maine State Music Theatre and the International Music Festival throughout the summer. Bowdoin College also has two museums (an Arctic and an art museum) and the Chamberlain House Museum is just across the street. Bowdoin often has events and performances that are open to the public. So much to do -consignment store shopping, watching a movie at the nearby feature film movie theater or the independent movie theater or dinner and a film option at the Frontier cafe. There are three movie theaters in Brunswick - one that shows feature films is just up the road! We are just off Route 1, so we're in a great location to explore Mid Coast Maine for day trips. Visit Rockland/Camden/Rockport, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta all within an hour and 20 minutes or less drive. Intriguing Portland (with a tremendous number of restaurants, bars, museums, etc.) is an easy 35 minute drive. Augusta, Maine's capitol city, is also about 40 minutes away. Take a noontime scenic cruise of Casco Bay just down the road from us on Bailey Island. USA's #1 voted favorite place (according to Good Morning America 2014 poll) Acadia National Park is a three hour drive. Also if you are checking out Bowdoin College for your son or daughter or attending a reunion, we are less than a 15 minute drive from the campus. We have a whole basket filled with brochures, so you can put off the planning until you arrive and then comfortably explore the area. All of our guests have used our Harpswell Heritage Land Trust brochure with a map, description and directions to some amazingly beautiful places that require only an easy hike or drive to visit. There is also a small indoor heated pool (no hot tub) and fitness center at a hotel just up the road. You can purchase a pass for unlimited use for a day or a week.
  • Bill and Alane were gracious, welcoming, and thoughtful hosts. They made us feel right at home, despite our popping in and out for wedding festivities. Their suite was large, pristine, well-appointed, and gorgeous, with a spectacular view of the water across the street and lots of light. We would love to return and spend time with them when we are back in the area. Thank you for the memorable experience Bill and Alane!

    Kacy2015-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We were greeted by our host in the middle of a downpour, the last rain of our stay! The place was lovely and very clean, and fresh cut flowers and blue berry muffins awaited us! The accommodations were bigger then we anticipated, and even had a little kitchenette, enough for the basics! Our hosts left plenty of information on things to do in the area, and we worked our way through the list, all was great! It was a perfect get away for a vacation away from NYC heat, humidity and noise, the scenery is very pretty and we enjoyed a couple of swims across the road in the bay.

    Fam2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Bill and Alane were incredibly thoughtful and generous hosts, and the attached apartment was very comfortable. The area is beautiful and also convenient to many great sites and towns.

    Teresa2014-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed with Bill and Alane for out 1st wedding anniversary and it was the perfect weekend. The 2 room (1 bedroom/1 living room) suite was well stocked with everything from towels to glasses to popcorn to orange juice to DVDs and games. The Harpswell location was extremely convenient as well. 30 minutes from Portland, 5 from Brunswick, 10 from Bath. We even made it to the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland! Fantastic space, fantastic hosts. 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, 10/10!

    Mike2014-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay! The hosts were so helpful and told us all the good area hikes and food places. They made us delicious fresh baked muffins and were just so friendly and welcoming. The bed was also really comfy! Good sleeps! Highly recommended!

    Amy2014-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at Bill's suite. It was the perfect size and it had everything we needed. He was able to give us suggestions for where to eat. The only downside was that we arrived in the winter season and because of this not all the local restaurants were open.

    Katie2016-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very attractive space and friendly hosts! The location was wonderful and so close to the beautiful coast.

    Camille2015-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • This stay was so much more comfortable and 'authentically Maine' than if I had stayed at a hotel in Brunswick (which I've already done twice.) It is spacious--perfect for an individual or a couple--and also includes a decent-sized kitchen for light meal prep. One plus that the photos really don't show is that the bed, and all the kitchen/bathroom fixtures are quite fresh/new. Everything is very, very clean--and I am picky. Such a nice, cozy finish to each of my hustle-bustle days. I highly recommend this spot for Bowdoin parents like myself--might as well get off campus and enjoy the whole area!

Our "Little House", located in Mid-coast Maine, is close to Brunswick, Bowdoin College, scenic coastal Route One, Bath, Harpswell (20 mins), Portland ( 30 mins) and Thomas Point beach. Great restaurants and shops are within walking distance. You’ll love our place because of the coziness and comfort, the great location, wonderful gardens, and National Historic Landmark status. Great for individuals, couples, or a three-member group. Special pricing for long-term stays.
The Little House was built in 1795 and is part of a larger home, known as the Walker-Wilson house, which was completed in 1803 and became a stop on the Underground Railway. The first residents lived in the Little House while waiting for the larger house to be completed. Although it shares an entryway with our home, it is completely private. Today, the Little House retains all of its charm with the comfort of modern amenities. There is a living space on the first floor with a mini-kitchen (refrigerator, sink, cooktop and microwave) tucked into an alcove; a small table and chairs and a television. A daybed provides additional sleeping space. Upstairs, there is a spacious bedroom with a double bed and a private bath.
Our neighborhood, and home, are on the National Register of Historic Places and the neighborhood is filled with fine examples of Federal homes. Our home is one of several in Topsham that were important stations on the Underground Railway, housing slaves until they they could flee to Canada. We are within walking distance to Brunswick with it's shops and great restaurants.
  • A return visit to Kathleen's lovely, historic home was as welcoming as I remembered! This is a great place to be if you want some quiet away from the bustle of downtown Brunswick. It works well for a couple, especially if you are spending time in and around the area exploring and you like staying in wonderful older New England homes!

    Laura2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Charm and character, beautiful setting, convenient location. Very comfortable, well appointed.

    Jennifer2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Little House offers some history, plenty of cosy and easy access to a nearby Main Street with plenty of character (calibrated for college budgets). If you want to get away for a few days and enjoy exploring the many small towns in the area or spend a day by the ocean, this is the ticket.

    Jac2017-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was our very first Airbnb experience. Kathleen greeted us and made us feel very welcome. The little house was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The neighborhood was quiet and felt very safe. This home is conveniently located close to restaurants, shopping, and attractions. We enjoyed a relaxing stay with everything we needed. Thank you for sharing your home.

    Terry2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The little house was superb! There is nothing else I can ask for. Kathleen and Neil are amazing hosts. Living in the property felt so royal!! Their gardens are just fantastic for morning breakfast and strolls. Will be back again for sure! Thanks guys for hosting us!

Facing Brunswick across the river, Bowdoin College, ocean beaches, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, restaurants. Love how it is situated, among beautiful gardens, on the river. And the two room post and beam cottage, contemporary and antique furniture. New kitchenette, new bath. Two wonderful bedrooms. Deck, barbecue, picnic table. In historic district.
Just a short walk across the river from historic Brunswick, our cottage is quiet, on the river, and in the garden. And the Cottage itself and the amenities are unmatched in the area. A post and beam cottage built only a few years ago. Large screen television, WiFi, outdoor barbecue, raspberries for the picking, picnic table under the peach tree. Extraordinary beds, desk, full bath. Enjoy the luxury.
We live on a short street with just a few houses, along the Androscoggin river. It is an historic neighborhood, with some of the houses going back to the 1830's, located right on the river.
  • Chick and Ann are tremendous hosts and the location couldn't be better. The gardens, the river, the view of the (Website hidden by Airbnb) a great place to relax on the deck. Even though it's in Topsham, it's an easy and pleasant walk into Brunswick for coffee, dinner or gelato. We look forward to returning again soon.

    Ron2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Chick and Ann were fabulous hosts with insight on where to go for dinner and nature. The house was clean and walking distance to town but you still felt like you were enjoying nature. We would definitely go back

    Diana2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Really beautiful cottage. So comfortable and homey. Perfect for a fall weekend. Chick and Anne were great hosts and very helpful.

  • The most beautiful gardens, the cute cottage, the sound of the water - all made my stay so very peaceful & zen! Yet walkable to town:shops, restaurants, etc. Thank you Ann & Chick for sharing your little piece of heaven.

  • Whether one is looking to stay near Brunswick, Maine, to see Bowdoin College, or as a stopover, this cottage is THE place to stay. Freeport is just a short drive away, and this property was very convenient to the colleges and highways in the area, but was tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood. Chick and Ann are warm and welcoming hosts and know the area incredibly well. The cottage is well-equipped for a short or long stay. The furnishings are incredibly comfortable, and the owners provide everything one could need for a stay. Not only is the bathroom stocked with toiletries, they even stock the pantry and fridge with breakfast/snack foods! Our 6'2" son had a great night's sleep on the sofa bed - I even looked at the brand as I would buy the same sofa bed if I ever need one. The gardens were lovely and the waterfall provided a soothing white noise sound to put us to sleep. I was amazed to hear that the family built this cottage themselves, in 2 parts. This was a "tiny house" before such things were all the rage - though with the addition of the dedicated bedroom, it is not so tiny. The bathroom was a good design. There were plenty of outlets and unlike some airbnb's, there was a good-sized television in the bedroom. The decor was pleasant, and everything was well-designed and in working order. We only wish we could have chatted with our hosts some more, but we ended up on the go most of the time we were in Maine.

    Karen2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely space is clean and comfortable with a lovely river view. The owners left us a nice selection of coffees, teas and breakfast foods. We highly recommend for a weekend get away or when visiting in the area.

  • Excellent location right on the water and walking distance to Main Street Brunswick. The gardens and the cottage are not to be missed. We have stayed with Chick and Ann twice and both times have felt very comfortable in their lovely cottage.

  • A wonderful place! Small, but well appointed, with much appreciated foods stocked in the kitchen. Beautiful post and beam located right on the river, close but not too close to downtown and and Rt. 1.

Clean, cozy basement room (6'8"ceilings) with a full-size platform bed in our simple home. The bathroom is mostly private, shared with a washer/dryer, to which you have access. We have a no frills house with basic offerings including tea/coffee with limited kitchen access), and we have an energetic, friendly cattle dog who barks when he greets you, along with 2 friendly cats. We are 1 mile from Brunswick and the train station, and only 25 min. from Portland.
The room is in the basement but has great light and the full-size bed is comfortable. The ceiling is almost 7-feet high (some areas are 6'8"), which is typical of basement ceilings. The pets are not allowed in the room. You'll have access to the larger basement area with a big TV (though we don't have cable). This area is semi-shared, because we come down in the morning and evening to feed the kitties. Polly, our older cat will be happy to join you in the room, or not, just keep the door closed, otherwise, she will make herself at home and enjoy your company. We have a good DVD library to choose from, if you'd like to relax and watch movies on the big TV (we don't have cable). Access to the bathroom is through the "man cave" (an unfinished basement area) where the heater is stored.
We are in a quiet neighborhood that is walking distance to vibrant downtown Brunswick and the Topsham Fair Mall. Several movie theaters are nearby, including two independent theaters. A diverse offering of restaurants. We are only 20-30 minutes to Portland -- Maine's largest city.
  • Sharon and Rob were very friendly and eveything worked perfectly. The room is in the basement, therefore you have a lot of space and its quiet. They have a sweet cat and a nice dog. We really enjoyed out stay there.

  • Easy communication & a comfortable bed. Always appreciate accurate descriptions! Enjoyed meeting Sharon & the furry kids :)

    Mary2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon, Rob and Isabel were wonderful hosts, flexible with our arrival time which was hard to pin down with such a long drive. Beautiful paintings by their family and other locals on the walls! About a 35 minute drive to Morse Mountain, our destination. Thank you for a comfortable stay!

    Cynthia2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon and Rob were both very nice, as was the room they offered! I had travelled to the area early-afternoon they had the room set up and recommended a few restaurants for dinner. They have a couple of very friendly pets, but once they said hello I hardly noticed they were there. Since I was in town for a race I was in bed early, but the house was very quiet at night and I slept very well. I only wish I got to know the hosts better during my stay!

    Joan2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon provided water upon arrival, followed by a tour of space and explanation of the access to/from the house/room. She also provided many recommendations for restaurants for dinner and breakfast in the area as well as coffee and tea in the morning.

    Curtis2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • They told us beforehand the code for the door and a very specific instructions for how to come where we need to (in the house). Downstairs where we were sleeping was pretty clean, and the bed was comfortable!

    Stephanie2017-10-05T00:00:00Z

Peace and comfort is what you will find in our cozy, four season, lofted abode, 1 mile from downtown Freeport. Perfect for one or two people with small children and/or dogs. Our spacious little house has everything you need to feel right at home. Don't hesitate to inquire about seemingly unavailable dates on the calendar. I will do my best to accommodate every request.
This rustic yet modern, open concept house, is packed with homestyle goodness. Furnished with a fully functioning kitchen, dining area, cozy living room complete with wood stove, antique desk for those that are "on the job" (wifi available), and spacious second floor bedroom loft, adorned with a queen sized bed, star filled skylight, meditation cushion and sizable full bathroom (sorry no tub, shower only). You will fall in love with its idyllic setting.
Only 1 mile from outlet shopping in downtown Freeport, 8 miles south of the quaint town of Brunswick and Bowdoin College and 20 miles north of the exciting city of Portland, our central location is convent to just about anywhere in Southern or Mid Coast Maine. Freeport is lucky to be the home to two of Maine's spectacular State Parks, Wolf's Neck Farm and Winslow, as well as LL Bean's Adventure Schools. All are only a short drive away and well worth a visit.
  • Amazing, totally romantic spot. Can't wait to come back! Even in a blizzard, one of the best vacations.

    Elizabeth2017-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here! The house was clean, comfortable and super cool. The property and area was beautiful and quiet. Deb was very responsive which made everything easy. We felt right at home and can't wait to come back. Actually, we didn't want to leave!

    Dan 2016-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Deb's place is beautiful. It is tucked away in a cozy part of town, but still so close to the market area. We walked to the shopping center on our first day. The neighborhood is serene and the neighbors are super friendly. I would recommend renting a car here otherwise be prepared to take a taxi everywhere. There are no Uber/Lyft drivers in this area (yet?) and a cab can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour for pick-up. Everyone is friendly and the nearby market has everything you could possibly need during your stay. We cannot wait to come back here in the future. It really was a winter wonderland!

    Veena2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • This little house is amazing! We could have stayed for 2 weeks or more. Deb made it so comfortable and homey. It had all or any conveniences that you would need for your stay. She communicated with me before our trip and gave us some great ideas for day trips. We would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone.

    Judy2016-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Deb was extremely responsive and her home was unique, welcoming, and equipped with everything you could possibly need; full kitchen, toiletries, cleaning supplies, linens, etc. The entire house was clean and well organized. Great location, just a few minutes from downtown Freeport, but the house was nestled away in a peaceful spot and had plenty of windows for natural light and fresh air. We had a great time. This is a must stay if you are in the Freeport area!

    Jennessa2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed two nights in Deb's cabin, and left wishing we'd booked it for two more. It is the cutest, coziest little place and is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Sitting on 10 acres of land on an old horse farm, it's charming and quiet. We were lucky enough to have it snow while we were there, which only added to the scenery. Only a mile from the outlets and restaurants and half a mile from the Bow Street Market (awesome local market). We went into town for dinner one night (Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro ) , and made dinner at the cabin the next. Deb has the place stocked with everything you would need for pots and pans, to shampoo and conditioner. Everything is immaculately clean, you can really see the love and care she has put into it. We loved every minute of our stay and will be coming back to explore the hiking trails surrounding the property, when it's a bit warmer out! Highly recommend staying at Deb's place, you will not regret it! Liz O

  • Great place to stay! Don't hesitate to booo Deb's place! Clean, quiet with everything you need!

    Mary Jane2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Deb is an amazing host. She reached out to us before our stay and was very responsive on any questions we had. It's absolutely gorgeous and unique and has everything to make your stay complete including a beautiful view, walking trails, an impressive collection of books, cds, guitar, bango and antiques. Everything in there was well thought out and fit right in....beautifully put together like something you see out of a book. This made our 10th wedding anniversary absolutely magical and we cannot wait to stay again. Thank you Deb!!

  • Gorgeous and immaculate cottage! When we arrived there were homemade blueberry muffins and fresh flowers from Linda's beautiful garden. Linda also had lobster lollipops and coloring books/crayons for our girls. The home/cottage looks like they should be in a magazine. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this home! We loved it!

    Chris2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • They Hayloft Cottage was great! Linda was very accommodating and helpful. The place was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. It is perfectly located and surrounded by a bunch of stores, restaurants, and activities to keep you busy. It was also very quiet, convenient, and safe. I would definitely stay here again!

  • Awesome place!! Host was wonderful and had homemade muffins and coffee for the week waiting for us. Great space with high end appliances and nice touches and amenities

    Rebecca2017-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • To start off, we were not visiting Maine under good circumstances... We were and are dealing with a very difficult loss. When you're dealing with a loss, the last place you want is to be away from home but unfortunately we didn't have a choice. Although we were away, Linda and her cottage made us feel as at home as we possibly could. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome and was there if we needed her as well as very quick to respond to messages. She is a botanist at heart so the yard and gardens were very inviting, beautiful and peaceful. The bed was super comfy, the shower hot with great pressure. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need and more. Laundry facilities available with detergent and softener. One thing that stood out to me the most was Linda's guinuine concern for my husband and I. Linda, I cannot begin to tell you how thankful we are we found your cottage. If we are ever in the area again, we will certainly look for availability with you first.

    AIMEE2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the cottage! It was so cute and the perfect size for a weekend in Maine. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage came equipped with everything we needed including coffee, pots and pans, towels, and even extra bedding for those cold Maine nights. We will be back again!

    Sophie2016-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem! A great way to enjoy our first visit to Maine, Hay Loft Cottage is a wonderful Airbnb rental. The space is generously sized, immaculately clean and set on a very nice property within walking distance of Brunswick and a short drive to Portland. We can't wait to come back.

    Andrew2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely gorgeous! Linda was always accessible if we needed her and she responded quickly to my messages. Her instructions for care of the cottage were all made very clear in an easy to find binder. She also had another binder with listings of restaurants and other things to do in the area. The cottage is located a short 9 minutes away from Bowdoin College, which was great for me because I was attending grad school residency there. Everything was so very accessible and pleasant. We will definitely stay with Linda again!

  • This was my first experience with using AirBnb and it was an excellent one! The apartment was very nice and comfortable with all the necessary essentials. I loved the vintage and artistic decor, so did my friend whom I was visiting (her daughter even calls dibs on the tree room and they weren't staying there HAHA). Even though our paths didn't cross much Rebekah and Matt were the nicest hosts I've encountered in all of my travel experiences. Even though I was gone most of the day visiting with my friend, it was a nice cozy place to return to in the evenings. So cozy that I had the urge to pick up my sketchbook for the first time in ages. I will definitely see if the space is available for future trips!

    Christina2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Rebekah and Matt's place is a cozy private apartment that is attached to their house. It is conveniently located to downtown Brunswick which, while small, has a nice variety of shops and restaurants. The place itself has everything you need and check in was a breeze. Rebekah is very communicative and will make sure all is taken care of.

    Ben2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rebekah & Matt are very lovely host. The upstairs apartment is perfect for us. It was cozy and comfortable. There were everything in there we need. I hope to see Matt's gallery once it is open.

    Kwangwon2017-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed the minimalist vibe of the apartment. It was our first "white northern holiday" season, and we got to experience all of that, including snow, rain, below 0 temps, not wearing the right shoes or jacket or gloves (all of which are completely beyond the control of the Barter's, but indicative of our overall southern unpreparedness), which made our holiday 100% memorable. We found the 24-hour LL Bean store and made ourselves winter ready, and enjoyed hours of cozy temps and memory foam mattresses in the art studio apartment. Thanks for hosting us for our first AirBnb experience!

  • I can't think of a more perfect setting for a family Christmas get together. The house was so incredibly charming, clean and comfortable. Marcia made us feel so welcome the moment we stepped foot in the door with a personalized chalkboard note and goodies to eat, including fresh eggs and milk in the fridge. And despite the frigid -12° temperatures outside, inside the house stayed very comfortable with no drafts. All of the beds, including the pullout couch were so comfortable as well. Plenty of blankets, pillows and towels for us all. The kitchenette with an induction heat cooktop worked great for making hot breakfasts and she provided a crock pot that we made some delicious dinners in as well. There were just enough utensils and plenty of dinnerware for us all. The dishwasher worked great. The house is in walking distance from some really nice restaurants and a grocery store. We definitely want to come back to stay again when it is warmer and we can enjoy the outdoors!

  • I call this place a home away from home as that is exactly how we felt staying for the two days. The bed was ever so comfortable, too. Ann and her husband were great hosts who have a knack for hospitality. Highly recommend for your trip to Maine!

    Devon2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • From the minute we pulled up , Ann and Steve were waiting for us outside with a huge smile. They greeted us as if we were family coming to stay for the weekend. She then gave us a tour of the suite where the feel of nautical Maine suddenly hit us. The decor in the suite was amazing and spotless. The first thing that caught our eyes washanging from the ceiling ---the beautiful Kayak that Steve and his son built from scratch. The kitchen was also very nautical as Ann told us that he built that area out of the kitchen area of an old boat! The center of the room was filled with nautical nick-knacks and a cute library that you can just explore for quite some time. The bed was Amazingly comfortable and had a control for each side to adjust your own personal comfort zone. The bathroom was large with a very modern stand up shower and a perfect size jacuzzi tub that was so relaxing and peaceful. (Candles and all) After we explored the wow factor of the decor, Ann brought us up a basket with homemade cookies and her OUT OF THIS WORLD Jam that she makes from scratch! She offered for us to use the deck in the yard anytime we wanted to and even offered for us to not be shy if they were out there, welcoming us to join them. Ann &Steve gave us some amazing tips on some great restaurants and places to see that unless you live there we would have not discovered. The day we left she made us a delicious breakfast with fresh eggs, bacon, all the coffee we can consume, and yes... more of her amazing jam. Lol. The experience we had with Ann and Steve could not have been any better in any other place with any other people. The generosity of our hosts were priceless and you can Really see that they love having good company in their home. There will never be another home we enter in Maine to stay unless it's at the Mainly woods Suite. Yes it was that amazing. Thank you so much Ann and Steve for everything!!

    Jessica2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Mainely Woods with Ann and Steve was lovely. In addition to the accommodations being spacious and well appointed with tasteful antiques, "home"y items, and everything we could have needed, our hosts were the best we could have imagined. Ann provided breakfast for us each morning, and happily suggested some awesome local places to visit and eat. We felt at home without feeling like we were sacrificing our privacy. Would recommend to anyone traveling to the area who is looking for a real "local" experience!

    Lynsey2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • This upstairs suite is a home-away-from-home -- except unlike home it was so relaxing we overslept each morning. Ann is a host par excellence and her personal warmth and hospitality is sincere (and her breakfasts are outstanding). She seems able to hit the right note between answering every guests' needs while still minding everyone's need for "space" and privacy. We stayed five nights for a family reunion nearby, feeling a little sorry for ourselves that we had to find another place to stay because more family attended than expected -- but Ann and her husband Mike made us feel very welcome. The suite, including a kitchen, is well-stocked, clean and tidy and the trees outside the windows are beautiful. For those who just must shop at Freeport, it's about 30 minutes drive. For those bringing students to Bowdoin, the college is about 20 minutes just across the river.

    Mary2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, comfortable private studio above garage in quiet area with easy access to quaint Brunswick and surrounding areas. Ann and Steve are delightful hosts, living the dream in a beautiful home in picturesque Maine. Number bed and soaking tub spoiled me! After 3 days at Mainely Woods, I was rested, restored and ventured back into the world...

    Joanie 2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at MainlyWoods. It is a beautiful space in a pleasant neighborhood. The hosts are wonderful and were very flexible about when we checked in. We had an early morning on the first day and missed getting breakfast-our loss because our we got breakfast on the second day and it was absolutely delicious. MainlyWoods is very convenient to Brunswick and Bowdoin College and Ann let us in on the more direct "back way" to the college. You will enjoy your stay!

    Lis2016-10-23T00:00:00Z

  • We had a wonderful time staying with Ann and Steve! This was my first time booking through AirBNB on my own and it was a great first experience! I was mostly looking for a place fairly last minute that would take my dog, and it worked out wonderfully. Ann was so welcoming even though we arrived late. She gave us great advice for where we may like to go for a late dinner and drinks, and my friend and I had a great time! Breakfast was wonderful, and the company even better! I hope to stay again with my parents in a few weeks when I will be back in the area!

At the entrance, there is a washer/dryer combo.
The Topsham Heights neighborhood consists of mainly single family homes and runs along the shores of the Androscoggin River. There are many wooded walking paths along the river with easy access to downtown Brunswick (Sea Dog Brewery, Frontier, Henry & Marty's, Portland Pie, El Camino, Joshua's, Wild Oats, Great Impasta, Cool as a Moose, The Nest, The Mix, Tontine Mall (theater), Fiore, Wyler's, and many other venues from either the historic swinging foot bridge or Frank Wood "green" Bridge or simply a short drive. We have access to the Androscoggin Riverwalk from our yard directly behind the "Ballard Bear".
  • This is one of the best Airbnb listings I've ever stayed. The house is so nice and clean, just as shown in the pictures. Sandy and her husband are so kind and welcoming. They showed us around the house, as well as the garden and the lake. My parents had lots of fun chatting with them, when Sandy invited my parents to attend a house party. Everything is so nice and we felt like home. If we ever come back to the Topsham/Brunswick area, we will definitely be staying here again! Thank you so much for what you've done.

  • We keep extending our stay at the loft. The hosts are as wonderful as the loft. They have given us suggestions on local things to do and we've even spent time together socially.

    Teresa2017-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed a total of 6 months at the loft. As a travel nurse, it was a perfect location with all the needed amenities at my fingertips each day.

  • Aloft in the Heights is an amazing place to stay while visiting Maine. I visited for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute. Sandy and AJ have put a lot of thought into creating this oasis. The bed is so comfortable, the linens are very high quality, and everything attractive and immaculately clean. I never got tired of the view of their lovely yard and the sights and sounds of the river. The location is great too, very quiet, but Brunswick is just over the bridge and I-295 and Rte 1 very close by. Sandy and AJ give you as much privacy as you want but also are very friendly and quick to extend an invitation to join them for a glass of wine at the fire pit in the evening. I highly recommend this spot for a visit of any length. 5 stars!

  • This place was wonderful! It was very clean, it has beautiful views, and it was spacious and very well-stocked. The hosts were very friendly, helpful, and thoughtful. We will come back again when we visit Brunswick to see our son at Bowdoin.

  • Aloft in the Heights is a special place. Clean, bright, warm, and quiet with a beautiful view overlooking the river. We will stay here every time we able to when visiting the area!

    Linda2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts, Sandy and AJ, have put much thought into making their property special. The apartment is like-new with a beautiful, modern feel, including light wood floors, lofty ceilings, granite counters, USB ports in a kitchen outlet for charging phones, and even an electric fireplace for ambience. Care was given to the selection and maintenance of the furnishings for offering a clean stay, such as laundering of bedding and shower curtains after each guest, and lack of carpets for low allergy living. The king-sized bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed the wonderful views of the river afforded by the large windows and small deck off the kitchen, and the main living space was very bright and cheerful. The exterior of the home and the expansive lawn and gardens were impeccably maintained. The location of this apartment was ideal as we could walk to downtown Brunswick for shops and food, but the property had a more tranquil, garden feel. Thank you to our hosts for sharing an outdoor fire, conversation, and a glass of wine on the last night of our stay! We felt very welcomed.

We have the loveliest home and want to share it with you when we're away. Our large, unique space is great for big groups and is completely remodeled with hardwood floors throughout. We're 1/4 mile from the Bowdoin College Campus and about a 1/2 mile from Downtown Brunswick and the Amtrak station. Our street is wonderfully quiet and we have an in-ground pool available for your use in the summer. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
  • Ben’s house was perfect for our group of 6. Great location and very comfortable. We’d definitely stay there again.

    Ethan2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Ben's place in Brunswick! The pool was a blast and Ben was super easy to communicate with! The beds could have been a little more comfortable and we wished there was more space to hang our coats etc. as we were here a week. These were not a huge deal though and it all worked out. Again, Ben was a terrific host, and if you're looking for a nice, basic place to stay, this is a great option. A very short walk to the town and overall fantastic location.

    Annie2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in Ben’s house when we were in Brunswick for our son’s graduation weekend. The house was perfect, as advertised, and the location was as well- a block away from campus! Ben was always quick to respond to any questions; he was also quite flexible with check in and check out time. A very, comfortable roomy house in an unbeatable location- we would not hesitate a minute to stay at Ben’s house again!

  • What a great house! Perfect for a larger group with plenty of bedrooms and very nice kitchen and common space. The uncluttered home made it easy to settle in and clean up when we left. Very clean. Nice deck, backyard and pool! We will definitely stay again if we have the opportunity. Communication with the host was quick, efficient, and easy. Highly recommend!

Cute and comfortable, 5 min. walk to restaurants, fast food, coffee shop, groceries and shopping centers. Also, bowling alley, miniature golf, driving range and cinema. Minutes by car to The Brunswick Executive Airport Downtown Brunswick Bowdoin College Maine State Music Theater Mid Coast Hospital Bailey Island Historic town of Bath
There is a full size kitchen with everything needed for cooking that fine meal. The living room is spacious, with a very comfortable couch and two recliners for relaxing after that fine meal. In the bathroom, there is a stacked washer and dryer for small loads. The two bedrooms have very comfortable full queen mattresses. The whole living area comfortably fits four adults and two children.
The house is located on a main street so, there is the usual sound of traffic but by 5:00 pm this quiets down quite a bit. Out behind the the house, a train passes by one or two times only during the day. Within walking distance or a short drive, there are a good number of restaurants, shops and entertainment.

    Roselyn2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • In all of my experience using AirBNB, this was, hands down, the most relaxing, welcoming, elegant and serene experience I have ever had. Patti is a remarkable person, both for her many accomplishments and skills, and the quiet way in which she allows her guests to be the beneficiaries of her talents. Everything she puts her hands on - her house, her gardens, her cooking - reveals the depth of her many interests and creative gifts. One leaves her house, and company, feeling incredibly lucky.

Bailiwick Cottage is a cozy, private cottage that looks south down Freeport (Harraseeket) Harbor in Freeport, ME. It is a 4 season accommodation that is close to Freeport shopping, Portland eating, and the Adventure Schools of LL Bean. The cottage sits approximately 50 yards from our main house, has its own parking space and patio, and offers the ability to come and go as you wish. We have had 12 honeymoons in the cottage and several have used it for a multi-day, solo meditation retreat.
This is a relatively new cottage, built in 2013/14. It has Heating and Air Conditioning and all new appliances. The interior is cozy/artsy/funky, yet functional with cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a blue tooth speaker for music from your iPhone or Android. The kitchenette is functional for light eating or warming up food. In season, we also have an outside patio table with chairs for outside eating or reading. The cottage stands alone and has its own parking. Come and go as you please. You can walk through the woods to the shoreline to view the clam diggers or shorebirds. We pretty much leave you alone in your space. You come to Maine to get away, and we respect that. The cottage sits on a dirt road, about a 1/4 mile off the "tar". Wolfe Neck Woods State Park is about a mile away and offers hiking, biking, and shore walks in summer and cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. It is great jogging and biking around us and, if you are lucky, you will see Joan Benoit-Samuelson (Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist) out on her daily run. We are 4 miles to downtown Freeport and its shopping and 10 miles to downtown Brunswick and Bowdoin College. The Portland Jetport is 25 miles away and is about a 35 minute drive. Bow Street Market offers just about everything with a Maine twist (best wine and liquor selection in the state) and will even cook lobsters for you to pick up. The "Wedding Field" and "Wedding Barn" of Wolfe Neck Farm are less than a mile away and this cottage would be a nice location if you are attending a wedding at either. There is no public transit near the cottage. Walk to the park or to Wolfe Neck Farm. Otherwise you need a car. In winter, the road can be a little icy, so all wheel drive/4 wheel drive is recommended. In all other seasons, any kind of car works. Many people bring their bikes and enjoy great road biking. LLBean runs great half day and full day "Adventure Tours" including kayaking, paddle board, biking, fly fishing and trap shooting in spring, summer and fall. In winter they shift to cross country skiing and snowshoeing. They also host summer concert and own the 9 hole Freeport Country Club, if you like to golf. We are open all winter and the cottage is well heated. Bring your snowshoes or cross country skis for winter fun.
We are on a quiet dirt road that is about 1/2 mile long (Birch Point Road) and the cottage is about 2/3 down the road. There are some families with small kids on the road, so drive carefully. Our general area is populated with a mixture of farms going back to the 1700s and 1800s along with some more recent builds. You will see woods, farm fields, grazing belted Galloway cattle, grazing sheep, and some pretty cocky wild turkeys. Not many deer, no moose or bears, an occasional fox, and overhead some eagles, ospreys, a heron and an occasional egret. It is Maine.
  • This place is perfect. My wife and I wanted to get out of the city for a few days, and George's cottage absolutely did not disappoint. The cottage is brand new and looks exactly like the listing. George was incredibly hospitable and provided us with a number of suggestions for local activities and places to eat. He was incredibly warm and friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him about the property, his background, and the Northeast in general. We can't wait to come back during the summer to enjoy the gorgeous views of Freeport Harbor.

    Pat2015-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely hotel-like room in the woods, this up-to-date and well-stocked space has lots of natural light from three directions, the sounds of nature through open windows, and glimpses of Casco Bay through the murmuring aspen trees. Lovely Wolf’s Neck State Park is within walking distance, Freeport is less than ten minutes away. The hosts live next door and are welcoming and engaged.

  • A great place to relax!

    Sam2017-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable cottage right on the water! It's secluded off a dirt road but also just a short drive to the outlets and some cute little shops. George is a fantastic host with open communication. We will definitely be coming back!

    Meghan2017-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is gorgeous. It's cozy, but I never felt cramped. It had everything I needed and there are many small, clever design touches. The bed was comfortable and it was incredible to wake up to the sounds of osprey and hawks over the bay. George and Linda were the perfect hosts. The initial communication and details about checking in were clear and George came by to provide the lay of the land and find out if I had any questions. I was there to hunker down with some writing and they were incredibly respectful of my privacy but also immediately responsive when there was a very brief glitch with the internet. The farm and state park down the street are great places to visit and there a lots of places to eat within an easy drive. I will be back!

    Linda2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • George was so welcoming! This cozy cottage was so beautiful. A perfect getaway!

    Maria2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Bailiwick Cottage was the perfect Maine experience! A cozy cottage, beautifully decorated and with picturesque views of the water. It's like you've died and gone to LL Bean heaven! George and Linda made us feel super comfortable when we arrived and provided lots of great recommendations such as lobster rolls on the docks at Harraseeket and hiking at Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park. The property is quiet and secluded yet a quick 10 min drive to the shops in Freeport and 5 min to the fantastic Bow Street Market for local Maine groceries and craft beers. We drove to Portland for dinner one night and that was also quite easy (30 min). I really enjoyed chatting with George about Maine and the cottage and getting to know more about him and his family. Overall this was a five star experience and I highly recommend visiting Bailiwick.

    Jeff2015-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at George's cottage. My husband I had just gotten married the day before and chose his cottage as a mini honeymoon. George was super nice and brought us over a bottle of champagne. The cottage was the perfect size for the two of us and was really adorable. We highly recommend staying at the cottage and we will absolutely be back!!!

  • If you have any reason to visit Brunswick, this is the place to stay. [Beware, though, if you are old-school, like me, the maps are not printed with an orientation of N at the top of the page so I got turned around. MY fault. LOL].

  • Dan and Martha are both such amazing people who will welcome you without any hesitation. I highly recommend staying in the apartment they offer to Airbnb travelers. It is the perfect size and has everything you need. It is very clean and feels like home. They are very generous people who want to make sure your stay is perfect. They made my trip to Maine amazing. I can't wait to go back and visit them!

    Natalie2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This location is, in my opinion, perfect if you're planning to spend time at Bowdoin or in the heart of Brunswick. I was able to walk anywhere I needed to go in 5-20 minutes. The studio apartment was clean, well-stocked, and cozy. If you don't want to spend money eating out, there is a full kitchen with ample space to buy groceries and prepare food there. Also, I have a very difficult time sleeping in most rentals because I've had several spinal reconstruction surgeries. I did NOT have any trouble here. I found the bed to be very comfortable. Not only did I sleep well, but I had no back pain during the day which is incredibly rare for me. The hostess (tenant in the main house) is incredibly kind and helpful should you need any assistance. Also, her plants and gardens are beautiful. I stayed here alone but this space is perfect for two or even three people, depending on sleeping arrangements. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone wanting privacy while staying in close proximity to Brunswick and the college.

  • Dan was a great host! He was quick to respond to messages and extremely helpful. Martha lives in the house next to the studio and is very pleasant. She also is very helpful. Would recommend this place!!

  • We had a wonderful stay with Dan. He was responsive and attentive without being overbearing. The space was large, bright and clean. Stocked with all the necessities and warm. I was delighted to learn there was wifi available though this wasn't indicated on the listing. We will look for Dan's again when we come to town next.

    Levi2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Walking distance from center of town. Lots of cute boutiques surrounding. There is also a market a block away

  • Dan's place was clean and inviting. The neighborhood is quiet. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen had everything needed. Dan was there to show the place and answer questions. He was accommodating and friendly. Lots of windows made the place airy though. I highly recommend this comfortable studio.
