“A hidden gem of a lake with an easy 2 hour hike, suitable for children. The lake is very shallow and suitable for swimming in the summer.”

“For the experienced hiker, and subject to weather conditions, but well worth the effort. 19km mountain crossing with the most spectacular views. Shuttle bus from Taupo is recommended as there is limited parking ( and it's a one way hike) . The right gear, boots clothing etc is essential as conditions can change very quickly. ”

“The Tongariro River is a river in the North Island of New Zealand. The part of the Waikato River from the Waihohonu Stream, down to Lake Taupo, was formally named the Tongariro River in 1945. Worlds best trout fishing, mountain biking and hiking. ”

“Tongariro National Park is 2 hours drive away from The Klein House. It is home to the Whakapapa Ski Field Resort which can be visited any time of the year. Recently opened is NZ's largest gondola called the Sky Waka which transports visitors during summer and winter, up and down the ski fields. No visit would be complete without a stop at NZ's highest cafe - The Knoll Ridge cafe which is open all year round and accessed via the gondola. The Chateau Hotel at the base of the mountain is worth a visit. They do really good high tea's but it is recommended to book in advance.”

“The iconic Tongariro Alpine Crossing is regarded as the best one-day trek in New Zealand and one of the top 10 single-day treks in the world. Our lodge is based about 20 minutes' drive to the start of the Crossing. At 19.4 km, the Crossing passes over the volcanic terrain of the multi-cratered active volcano of Mt Tongariro, passing the eastern base of Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom from The Lord of the Rings) before descending to the Emerald and Blue Lakes. As the nearest village to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, National Park is the ideal base for this world-famous walk.”
