Places to stay in Swans Island
Come unplug in a cozy cottage on a hundred acres of conservation land (Maine Coast Heritage Trust) in a very private cove on the rocky coast of a Down-East Maine island, 6 miles across the bay from Mt Desert Island and Acadia National Park. A short ferry ride from Bass Harbor brings you to Swans Island. Watch the tides ebb and flow, the Bald Eagles soar and the sun set over coastal Maine from your private deck. The dark night sky is full of stars and streaked with the Milky Way.
The cottage is fully furnished with a well-equipped kitchen, a bath with flush toilet, an outdoor shower and 2 bedrooms that sleep 4 (maximum, please.)  The cozy living room has a woodstove, VCR/DVD system, CD player and excellent local radio reception.  There are over 350 video tapes of favorite and classic movies.  There are board games, cards, books and puzzles.  Wifi is available on the island at the ferry terminal, Townhall, and library.  Most cellular phones have service at the cottage.   The first floor bedroom has a queen-sized bed, while the second floor loft bedroom has a full-sized bed overlooking the water.  The deck wraps around the ocean side of the cottage facing the coast and tiny Hen Island with nesting Bald Eagles in residence.  You will need to supply all your bed linens, kitchen linens and towels, as there is no laundry facility on the island.  Pillows and blankets are supplied in the bedrooms. We seek to uphold the ethic of quiet and gentle living in this special place.  A dog would be considered with prior approval and deposit, though must be under owner’s control at all times and not left alone in the cottage.  The deck is not child safe, there are cleaning supplies under each sink and the electrical outlets are not child safe. We also ask that you be mindful of careful water use and disposal, given the “tight” septic system (meaning that all waste water must be pumped out and transported off-island.)  The running hot and cold water is not potable due to mineral content, but is fine for washing dishes and showering.  Large containers of drinking water are kept in the cottage and need to be refilled at Townhall before your departure.  Or you may bring your drinking water.  Please remove ALL trash and waste (and that of your dog.)  The town dump and recycling facility is free for all and is located near our road.  Please separate recyclables from trash.
The cottage is close, 1 mile, to Fine Sand Beach. It is 2 miles to the quarry, fresh water.
  • Fantastic place for getting away from it all. My wife and I visited Swan's island in mid-October for our babymoon, and the leaves were unbelievable. The other reviews are helpful, I'll add that we decided to take the risk and take the ferry (with our car) over to Acadia on a Thursday. We arrived at 2:30pm just in time to catch the 3:30pm ferry back to the island, and there was a long line of cars waiting for the 5:15 (last one!) even before the 3:30 left. Be sure to check the ferry schedule and plan to not make it onto a ferry, especially in the summer. However, my wife and I did see that Mt Desert's free bus system provides service to the ferry, and their routes are timed with the ferry schedule. You don't need a car to visit Acadia in the summer (nor should you! Parking was the worst I've ever seen in a national park) so check out their timetable: http://www.exploreacadia.com/index.htm. You're basically guaranteed to get back on the ferry of your choosing if you don't take your car. Also, we didn't realize the ferry fares are roundtrip! Another pro tip: fine sand beach on Swan's island is arguably nicer than the one in Acadia. You could absolutely do a beach day in the summer and avoid Acadia's crowds

  • Amazing little cottage tucked away down a narrow dirt path. Very beautiful and secluded. The sunset was amazing, as others have mentioned, and there were even a couple kayaks on the property, so we went poking around Hen Island. The kitchen has everything you could ever need. Be prepared to bring your own water and/or make time for refilling the drinking water already stored in the kitchen. Take note that you have to remove your own garbage, which is not a big deal, but it looks like the island's disposal facility has limited hours. Speaking of limited hours, make sure you factor the ferry schedule into your plans! The last ferry to Swan's Island left at 5:15pm each day while we were there, so we ended up bringing lobsters home to steam ourselves! Loved this place. Would totally stay again. I've been making friends and family jealous with pictures since our trip!

  • It is hard to describe how beautiful and quiet a location this cozy cabin is in, on Swans Island. The first time you drive the dirt/gravel driveway leading to the cabin, is when you realize how very private the location is. The cabin has everything you need for a long stay. If you are an experienced kayaker, there are many nearby ( and not so near) islands to explore. There are some new trails on Swans Island (or perhaps so lightly used they appear new?) very close by, the blue rock trail ( about a 1 and 1/2 mile loop with ocean views to the north and west) and another one that is so new that it is like walking on a soft green carpet. Swans Island is a quiet and beautiful escape from the Acadia crowds and I hope to stay here again on my next visit to Swans Island. Alan H Marzullo

  • Great, beautiful place to stay! You basically have your own cove, and it is very peaceful and relaxing. If you are looking for a quiet getaway in Maine, this is the perfect place. The view from the house is incredible, and I loved reading on the porch. Fine Sand Beach was lovely- we spent an entire day there. There is only one food supply store on the island, so you may want to bring some of your own groceries on.

  • This is a super cool place. Highly recommend if you’re looking for solitude and exploring a quiet island.

    Mike2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • It's hard to overstate how peaceful and beautiful this place is. At night we heard harbor porpoises in the cove. During the day, we kayaked with harbor seals and explored the nearby islands. The outdoor shower never got old! And the sunset view from the kitchen or the deck is stunning. We loved it so much that we ditched our plan to visit Acadia and stayed on Swan's Island the whole trip. We can't wait to go back!

If you've never been to Swan's Island before, we HIGHLY encourage you to visit our motel website. Simply search for Harbor Watch Inn, Swan's Island, Maine. You will find some very important information about the island and how to get around. The Harbor Watch Inn is the only motel on Swan's island. We offer five units starting at $98/night. All rooms have private entrances, full bathrooms and accommodate four people. Multiple units can be reserved for larger groups. Swan's Island can only be accessed via Maine DOT ferry. You can drive your vehicle on. Here is a link with rates and schedules. There are currently no restaurants on the island, so please plan accordingly. If you are staying for 2 or more nights, we encourage you to book Room 2, 4 or Suite 1, all of which have full kitchens so you can prepare your meals. Rooms 1 and 3 only have a small microwave and coffee maker. Centrally located in the Minturn section of the island, we are only minutes from favorite tourist stops like the Burnt Coat Harbor Lighthouse and the Lobster and Marine Museum. This makes us convenient to all of your outdoor activities as well.
Room Three is on the front side of the building offering easy access for loading and unloading luggage from your vehicle. The two double beds, sitting area and full bath make for gracious surroundings. It, of course, includes our standard microwave and coffee amenities. This room also shares a public deck for views of the harbor.
For our first-time visitors, we can't stress strongly enough what a unique place Swan's Island is. If you are looking to go a little off the grid, relax, enjoy the outdoors and the simpler things in life, then we can't wait to see you. If you're looking for shopping and entertainment, this simply may not be the place for you. There are no McDonald's, no strip malls and no movie theaters. And that's exactly what makes people come back year after year! Our motel does have free wi-fi, so you don't have to completely disconnect, but there are no TVs in the rooms. We encourage you to get out and about and enjoy all the natural beauty of our little island and participate in community activities.
  • The communication was great! Even though we didn’t get to stay, her communication was great

Off the grid but furnished with basic necessities and then some, this "little house" offers privacy (no other cabins around except what can be seen across the cove) and beautiful views. Sleep peacefully to the sound of waves on the shore just a few feet away.
Rustic, off-grid cabin located 20 feet from water on beautiful Toothacher Cove. Cabin is accessed via a 20 min ferry ride on Maine State Ferry service leaving Bass Harbor Maine making 5-6 round trips per day. Reservations are STRONGLY recommended to avoid being bumped to a later ferry and can be made by calling the respective ferry offices (Bass Harbor and Swan's Island). The cabin is private yet walking distance to a sandy beach, island store and take-out. The cabin has a propane cook stove with oven, 7 cu ft refrigerator w/freezer compartment, outdoor composting toilet, rain barrel water system w/hand pump. Cabin sleeps 3 adults or 2 adults & 2 children in a bunk bed arrangement with a small loft (renters will need to provide their own linens/bedding and towels. 2 pillows are furnished). Cabin furnishings include cookware, dishes and paper goods. There is an outdoor shower stall with propane hot water setup. A canoe with paddles/life jackets are provided for scenic trips around the shores. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, eagles soaring and an occasional porpoise. The island has public beaches, walking trails, a lighthouse/museum, public library with wifi and seasonal entertainment. Visit Swans Island website for community events and state ferry service information. Guests are asked to provide their own bedding, linens, towels and bottled drinking water. Since there is no site maintenance, it is expected guests will leave cabin clean and take their waste/trash with them or deposit at the island landfill. A 4WD or AWD vehicle is needed to get to camp. 2WD vehicles will need to park in a field and require a 75 yd walk using a garden cart to transport supplies...well worth the view! Ferry reservations are HIGHLY recommended both on and off island to ensure getting on and not being bumped to next trip.
Private setting yet walking distance to beach, store and take-out.
  • Location. Location. Location. Wow! We had a fabulous time on the island. It was so wonderful to slow down the pace for a few days. The moment my 15-year-old daughter got there she said: "I have a new goal in life... make enough money to buy a little cabin on Swan's Island". She's pretty convinced that she could be an islander! We will be sure to support her in her new life goal and will HAPPILY visit often! One highlight was seeing a 4 ft. Ocean Sunfish right under the canoe. What a wild-looking creature! Mike was fabulous and we would certainly go again.

    Christy2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is an extraordinary place--both in terms of its simple, thoughtful comforts and its placement on the cove. Looking back at the pictures in the listing, they're all quite accurate and representative of what we experienced, but ahead of time it was hard to appreciate just how special of a spot it really is. Expect it to take about a day to get a hang of operating the amenities, working without electricity, etc.--not that any of it is hard in any way (mostly because Mike provides excellent, clear instructions); time just works differently here. Once things click, your stay won't be long enough.

    Andrew2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the cabin and the Island! It was the perfect destination for our first trip away from our toddler son. It's hard to understand how stunning the view and location are until you experience them in person. The amenities were really comfortable and allowed us to have a camping type vacation even though we don't own any gear. We enjoyed cooking lobster and steamers outdoor, swimming in the quarry, canoeing around the cove, and sitting by the camp fire at the end of the day. We hope to return many times as a family, and feel privileged to be part of the the larger network of annual visitors that Mike has so graciously welcomed onto this very special property. Mike is the best!

    Carmelle2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mike's cabin is a lovely place to stay. If you are looking for secluded place to relax in Maine (without the crowds and tourist focus of Bar Harbor, for instance), this is a great choice. The setting is beautiful. We watched birds in the morning and the sunset over the water at night. The water is typically calm in the cove and fun to explore by way of the kayak or canoe provided with the cabin. The cabin itself is rough and rustic, but in a really nice way. We enjoyed the rituals of pumping water for showers and dishes, and sleeping in the little loft (sleeps two adults comfortably)--the foam mattress was fine for us. We also enjoyed thoughtful little touches, like the books available for guests. We enjoyed reading a Sarah Orne Jewett story in the evening, thanks to that little library Mike has set up in the cabin. I should add, the cabin is also very well stocked with dishes and other things you might need to cook a meal. Mike was very responsive to my texts with questions, and was an excellent host. I'd love to return to his cabin one day.

  • If you are looking for a private, off-the-grid cabin where you can live simply and disconnect from modern life in a beautiful setting, then look no further! This cabin is a treasure. The setting is lovely and the cabin, though without electricity or running water, has all one needs, especially if you are looking for a more rustic experience--which we were. We had a memorable time and hope to be back.

    Cornelia2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the cabin are absolutely STUNNING!!!! You will not be disappointed. Peaceful, quiet, no neighbors next door and very private but in walking distance from TIMS, the little island store. Fresh lobsters for fraction of the price you would find elsewhere. The cabin itself is perfect in size, small and rustic with everything you may need. We begged our 16 year old son to come, believe it or not he enjoyed himself for all 3 nights and even said he was glad he came. We all know how teenagers can be. Our 8 year old daughter had a blast too. Neither kid missed their electronics. I would recommend checking out the fine sand beach. Amazing!!! We hunting for sand dollars, sea glass and shells for hours. Plus nothing beats walking on a sandy beach. Note: you’re literally steps from the water and nothing beats hearing the waves and the seagulls.

  • Swans island is lovely and quiet and a great place to spend at least a few days. The cabin's felt quite private -- only a few times did we see passing kayakers, or hear lobster boats in the distance -- and it wasn't even that isolated. It's only a short walk from the island's only market which had everything we needed (water, propane, veggies, amazing meats and lobster, etc.). We had to get used to the dishwashing, shower, and compost toilet, but it didn't take long, and but overall we had a terrific three days. The setting by the water was endlessly beautiful, even as the weather changed day to day. That said, the drive down really does need an AWD car, but it's not a very long walk from where the road gets too bumpy. Thanks again for a terrific time in the cabin!

    Peter2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • The space is really fantastic, right on the water. I stayed there with my two boys and we all loved it. Mike did a good job in saying it isn't for everyone, but we love to camp and the location is truly amazing and we were fascinated by all the ways this cabin was an efficient and livable off the grid experience. I've already recommended it to friends.

  • Nancy and Pat were great hosts! It was a fun experience staying in a tiny house. Now I can say I've done it. It was great to be remote, but had wifi and some restaurants around to go. Otherwise we'd trek into Bar Harbor. The house was great, clean, and the hosts were wonderful. The compost toilet isn't something I'd choose for my house, but it was fine for a few days. Great stay!

    Katie2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time staying at the Petite Retreat. Nancy goes out of her way to make sure her guests have everything they need for their stay. The house is in a great location on the Quiet Side of MDI allowing you to escape the crowds of Bar Harbor. The house is a convenient distance from Acadia and Bar Harbor as well as plenty of attractions on the Southwest Harbor, and was a great place to come back to for a campfire at night. Would highly recommend staying here.

    Christopher2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I loved staying here. It felt very private and it offered a lovely escape from the crowds of people around Acadia and Bar Harbor that we encountered during the day. Nancy was a great host and offered lots of info about places to see and things to do. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to check out the area

    Kristy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this Petite Retreat! This tiny home was just right for our stay while exploring Acadia and MDI. Nancy has appointed her place very nicely for a comfortable stay. The compost toilet is interesting and had some odor at times, but there were things provided to help with it and we managed it just fine. It just took some getting used to. Overall, It was nice to be on the quiet side at the end of the day. We hiked several trails on the island but our favorite was on the quiet side, don’t miss Wonderland Trail and Ships Harbour Trail! We also visited the lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, and ate at Thurstons and Beals(better?). We drove Cadillac Mountain twice (amazing views), hiked around Jordon Pond and up the South Bubble (hard but fun). Don’t miss eating Popovers at Jordon Pond House, sit outside if you can! We also hiked some carriage roads, enjoyed Bar Harbor, drove through Northeast Harbor and went on the Acadia by Sea boat tour. Everything was worth the time! Can’t wait to return next year!

  • We enjoyed being in the tiny house - it was very cosy (especially the bed!) and so well equipped!

  • The petite retreat is a great tiny house! The home was close to everything we wanted to see and do, and we were provided with a park pass for our stay. Nancy is also great at communicating and checking in with you during your stay. I would recommended this home to anyone looking to visit Maine

    Dayna2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the Petite Retreat, a perfect location to explore Acadia and MDI. Nancy was a great host - kind, hospitable, responsive and went above and beyond with conveniences we would need during our stay. The only thing that set us back a bit was the compost toilet - that takes some getting used to! Otherwise a wonderful stay.

    Candace2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was a great alternative to a hotel room. It was the perfect amount of space for two people just looking to lay their heads down at night. The large bed is so comfortable! Nancy was a great host and provided a binder full of all the information one would need, including details and instructions for the house and excellent tips and recommendations for area attractions. The fire pit and porch were very enjoyable as well.

Cozy bungalow located in the Bernard village. This house would be perfect for a group stay on Mount Desert Island. Open floor plan with good sunlight and great views overlooking a marsh. Guests will enjoy easy access to the quiet side of Acadia National Park. 10 minute drive to Southwest Harbor. Walking distance to Bass Harbor, Back Beach and Thurston's Lobster Pound.

  • We had a great stay at Andrew's - the house is cozy and communication was great. We appreciated the kitchen and being able to cook in during one night of our stay. Would definitely love to stay here again.

  • This home is so beautiful and cozy! It is a bit of a drive from the main Acadia hikes and from Bar Harbor, but is very close to the lighthouse. The location also meant that we got to be in a quiet area and see a lot more of the island that many visitors probably miss. We loved the many artistic and vintage touches in the home, and the gorgeous gardens and views right outside. I would absolutely stay here again!

    Catherine2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew maintains a lovely home filled with personal touches - my boyfriend and I found ourselves challenging each other to a puzzle/board game we happened across on one of the bookshelves in the living room! Andrew also allowed us to arrive earlier than the posted check-in time; we truly appreciated his flexibility. We will be back!

  • Andrews place was exactly what we were looking for. It was super quiet and cozy and dog friendly! It also was a short walk from an amazing lobster joint. We loved cooking a nice meal and sitting in front of the wood burning stove. Very cozy and quintessential Maine vibes. Andrew was also super prompt with getting back to us when we had a question. Look forward to staying again! Thanks Andrew!

  • Andrew’s place was great! It was in a really beautiful area that was quiet and peaceful. The town had a charm of its own and the people were great too. Overall, Andrew’s house was clean and comfortable and in a good location. Thanks again, Andrew!

  • Just returned from a fantastic long weekend in Tremont. Andrew's cabin was a perfect home base to explore Mt. Desert Island and Acadia with my husband, dog, and toddler. The space itself was exactly what we needed - two comfortable bedrooms with space for a pack and play in either, a tub for soaks after some punishing hiking, and a kitchen with all the essentials. I really appreciated Andrew's responsiveness and flexibility. I asked to change our reservation to arrive a night early and he was super accommodating. Check-in was also really easy - we got stuck in some Friday afternoon traffic between Boston and Portland and Andrew left the house open for us so we didn't need to stress. He shared some great recommendations for things to explore (hikes, beaches, restaurants). I always appreciate finding good dog-friendly places on AirBNB and this was one of our favorites! Thanks again, Andrew, for a great stay.

Is art your thing? Plan a day trip to Deer Isle, Stonington, or Blue Hill to check out the impressive, local art scene. The Reversing Falls Sanctuary offers art openings and other events. Like music? World famous Kneisal Hall Music School in Blue Hill hosts fabulous classical concerts throughout the summer; Flash in the Pan Steel Drum Band plays at the Blue Hill town park most Monday evenings (overlooking Blue Hill harbor); check out the Stonington Opera House for their repertoire of all kinds of performances; live music Tues. nights at Methodist Church in Buck's Harbor; open mic at Tinderhearth. Are you a Foodie? David's Folly Farm will sell you farm fresh meat and Buck's Harbor Market (5 minutes away) has just about everything else for dinner. O yes, and, of course, don't forget you can buy lobsters at Northern Bay Market, live or cooked and ready to go! Then, come back to Waterview Cottage and watch the sun as it sets over Smith Cove. And, great, local restaurants abound - see the local Weekly Packet for more info. There's so much more to do – play golf, tennis, visit pottery studios, enjoy raw oysters fresh from the local (and world famous) Bagaduce River Oyster Farm, go bird watching, or visit the pioneering “back-to-the-land" Good Life Center 7 miles away in Cape Rosier. Oh! I forgot to mention blueberry pie a la mode. You'll just have to come explore for yourself! Welcome!
We love the peace and quiet.

Delightful oceanfront farmhouse on over 7 acres. Carefully renovated, the house has plenty of character with old beams, white painted bead board walls and a fanciful attached Cooper's shop with lovely views and a block and tackle fun chair. Come explore the expanse of open fields, apple trees, blueberries, old granite quarry and gentle waterfront and discover a truly wonderful place to spend the summer.
The farmhouse kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, an electric stove, plenty of pots/pans/dishes and all the basics: flour, sugar, oil, salt/pepper/spices, and paper towels. Please let us know if we are running low on anything so that we can resupply. In addition to the 3 bedrooms, the loft above the Cooper shop has a small fold-out sofa suitable for a child to sleep on. There is also a pack 'n play available for a toddler/infant. The house has a TV and internet, but please understand that island internet is likely slower than you are accustomed to. The island library has high speed wireless internet available to the public. The TV has a roku with Hulu TV and additional free movie and TV channels via Tubi. You can login to other services (such as Netflix, Amazon Prime) if you already subscribe. There is a full bath and a half bath upstairs as well as a half bath downstairs. The house has a washing machine, but no dryer. Islanders dry clothes the old fashioned way in the summer and you will find a laundry line to hang your clothes between two apple trees on the side of the house. There is a small rowboat and 2 kayaks and lifejackets available for you to use and explore our cove at high tide... but don't get stranded when the tide goes out! Swans Island is a magical place for children, but please be aware that there is an open loft in the restored Cooper shop which may pose a danger to small children.
Swans Island is a wonderful place to unwind and slow down. There is a freshwater quarry for swimming, Fine Sand Beach, Burnt Coat Harbor Lighthouse, plenty of trails to explore and all the lobster you can handle. Swans Island is only accessible by ferry from Bass Harbor. During summer months the ferry can fill up, so reservations are recommended. You can get a reservation by contacting the Maine Ferry Service one month in advance of your trip: https://www.maine.gov/mdot/ferry/swansisland/. If you do not have a reservation, plan to arrive at the ferry terminal early and be prepared for the possibility of not making the first boat (ie, make sure there is a next boat!). Navigating the ferry is part of the charm of life on the island as long as you are prepared. Swans Island is a dry island so plan on bringing your own alcohol or wine. There are no restaurants. There is a small general store for staples. Make sure to plan meals ahead of time and stop for groceries before you get on the island (we usually shop in Elsworth).
  • Brenna is a lovely responsive host and the island is a special place for people who are seeking a tranquil holiday.

  • This is a magical place. Every view from the house is magnificent. If you are looking for a place to truly unwind this is it. All the creature comforts you need with none of the noise of the outside world. The house is beautiful, and really tastefully done. Brenna is an excellent host and Swans Island is the stuff of dreams!

  • Fantastic location with amazing views. Yes, the property may be a bit difficult to get to and require additional planning, but it's all worth it. Once there, you have plenty of activities to choose from and magnificent views to admire. What a hidden gem. Our group hopes to come back for another visit soon.

  • What a beautiful spot in a corner of the world that few experience! We met a local lobster fisherman at church Sunday that took us out on his boat the next day. We had a great time helping him reel in the catch of the day. And when we weren't kayaking or exploring the island, the kick back atmosphere was wonderful. Highly recommend!

  • ☺️☺️☺️ wow this stay exceeded all our expectations, it was totally beautiful. The house was completely spotless, and Brenna and Carol were very helpful in bringing us heaters which kept the house nice and toasty warm. The views are incredible, and the island life is quaint and charming. You get to experience what it's like to be living in a real lobstering community which was really neat. The house is awesome and full of cool swings, and character!! I could not ask for a better stay. This was the best Airbnb stay I've ever been on. ☺️☺️☺️

Older house on Burnt Coat Harbor, decks surrounding house looking over harbor. Two br's and bath upstairs, old country store attached downstairs w/ bath, queen bed, 2 blow up queens. Stocked pantry, screen porch, 2 bikes, 2 kayaks, 100s of movies and books. Coffee machine, espresso, Keurig, BBQ.
Map and directions available after booking, but in general it is wise to call the Maine State Ferry Service in Bass Harbor, Maine, to make ferry reservations going and returning. Once on the Island, from the ferry terminal, the house is situated on Burnt Coat Harbor, across the Island, first left past the small satellite fire station, down the hill, last house on the left. Parking is on uphill side of the house in front of the boat (which is for sale).
Beaches are covered with tumbled rocks, beach glass and driftwood. Yacht clubs fill the harbor in the summer. There is one small but sufficient grocery store, TIMS, that miraculously has everything including an attached "take out" with great food and picnic tables. Scattered around the island are small gift shops with homemade crafts, foods and antiques. Once a summer there is an "art crawl" with open studios, and several times through the summer there will be lobster dinners, church suppers, and music, dance and "theater" at the Hall.
  • We really enjoyed our stay in this home on Swans Island. The views are spectacular, much nicer than expected, and the house is beyond comfortable! Don’t miss the fine sand beach and lighthouse trails. Wesley, the host is amazing. Its the second time we reserved one of his properties. Communication is excellent and he impresses more each time. We would definitely return.

  • An outstanding house in a beautiful location. Our time here was too short! Could have spent an entire week exploring the island and the house as well.. Time slows down here and the inhabitants are warm and genuinely friendly. The house has everything you and your family could need for a restful vacation. Highest recommendation!!

  • From the beautiful nature hikes to the lobsters from the wharf below the house to the friendly service at TIMS to the peaceful Fine Sands Beach to the loveliest house, this was by far one of our favorite vacations as a family ever! Thank you Wesley and Juan Carlos!

    Mary2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wesley's place is a wonderful place to stay on Swan's Island with a view of the Harbor and ocean. We found the place to be very comfortable, with everything one could need to enjoy your stay. We enjoyed biking around the island and also kayaking on Burnt Coat Harbor. It is a quick ferry ride over to Acadia National Park which has some of the most beautiful coastal hiking trails I have ever experienced. We will abosultley be back! Thank you, Wesley!

    Dalyn2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a place to really take a break from it all, this is it!!! The home is spectacular! Comfortable, roomy, breathtaking views, and so peaceful. Wesley is a perfect host and very responsive. The locals are so friendly and warm. There are no restaurants or bars or major shopping. You have to make your own entertainment. Hiking, beach, or simply relaxing. We read many books. Highly recommend this for a realizing getaway. Thank you Wesley and Juan for sharing your amazing home. Jean and Jay.

    Jean2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • West Lee Cottage is simply magical! Like others have mentioned, I wouldn't call it a cottage. It is a beautiful historic home with great views over the active fishing wharf. Every corner of the home is filled with pieces of history and creative art to discover so even rainy days were fun! There is a huge deck with comfy chairs, bbq, and firepit that made it hard to find a reason to leave the house! Steps away to Kent's wharf for lobster. We took all of Wesley's suggestions and worked our way through the list of things to do which he provided. We started every morning with coffee on the deck and a walk to the the lighthouse to enjoy trails and watch the boats come and go, made multiple trips to fine sand beach where we found ourselves alone on one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been to! (I used to live in the Virgin Islands so I know a little about great beaches). Hiked blue rock trail, visited the quarry, and used the provided kayaks to paddle around Burnt Coat harbor where we were treated to a visit by a Bald Eagle, Black Guillemots, and great views. Also, you will be welcomed by amazing people and friendly neighbors eager to tell you about the island and share their love for this special place. Be sure to read Wesley's book, Burnt Coat! It really gave us a connection to the place and provided a sense of how special Swan's island is to the people who call it home. If you want peace, quiet, and relaxation Swan's Island and West Lee cottage are definitely the place for you!

Closed until June 1st!! Come stay among moss covered spruce woods in our village of tiny homes and misfit animals. Due to restrictions we are only able to have one party per week so we encourage longer stays. However we understand restraints and allow 2 nights during the winter months. Bike three miles to picnic by the ocean, swim or to hike up the western mountains. Take a short drive to Southwest fresh seafood and entertainment. Even enjoy avant-garde theater in a rustic barn by the sea.
This home is built with bent maple poles in the style of an Iroquois Longhouse. There are large windows that let in the morning sun, space for storage, a wood stove perfect for winter stays and a cozy twin sized bed. Our property is located on a dead end road, please make sure to drive all the way to the end and park. We also have a very strict 10 mph speed limit on our road. It is important for our future that guests do not go over that limit. Thank you in advance.
Our tiny homes are sheltered in a quite mossy woodland. Just a mile walk from our land is a lake with wonderful swimming and fishing and the trailhead up the western mountains of Acadia. Take a two and a half mile bike ride in the opposite direction and you'll find yourself at a beautiful picnic spot by the ocean, the perfect place to enjoy a lobster bake as you watch the sun set.
  • Perfect hideaway in the woods of Maine, beautiful hiking in Acadia right up the street or can stay on site completely isolated and just enjoy the peace and quiet!! This was our second visit and loved it once again!!

    Katie2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most amazing Airbnb we have ever stayed at! It was so fun getting our own water from the well and visiting the animals. It really felt like we had escaped away from all societal problems at this property!

    Meadow2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sleeping in the woods and waking up with the sun was a great, enriching experience. I have had a wonderful time there, the forest is beautiful, the cabin is very cosy. I have met Candace and she kindly showed me around the farm where I met all her farm animals (emeus, pigs, a poney, a great Anatolian sheperd...). The park is not far from here and the setting is beautiful. I recommend.

  • We had an incredibly memorable stay at this one-of-a-kind place marked by its artistic brilliance and natural beauty. Hope to return to the Howling Woods before too long!

    Samuel2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful experience in every regard, especially in clear and responsive communication with any questions — hope to visit again in the warmer months, but a lovely stay mid-winter as well.

    Taylor2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay here! Candace was so friendly and quick with her responses. The farm is absolutely adorable too

    Makenzie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is MAGICAL!! Felt really connected to the place and the woods surrounding. Super cozy with the wood stove despite the cold February temps. Loved this place so much!

    Amelia2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely magical. A place to get away completely and connect with nature, while having the quaint downtown of Bar Harbor close by. You will have stars in your eyes as you walk through their forest full of wooden creations and cozy huts. If you're a little rugged, adventurous and appreciate the simple life- this is your spot!

This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom spacious apartment with lots of natural light is located in the quaint little fishing village of Bernard on Bass Harbor very close to Acadia National Park with many beautiful hiking trails and carriage roads. Within walking distance, is the restaurant Thurston's Lobster Pound. They have great lobsters, fish chowder and lobster stew. My favorite is the lobster BLT.
This newly renovated 1 bedroom apartment is located on the first floor of the Old School House, a large historic building in the village of Bernard located on the quietside of the island of Mount Desert Island and within minutes to Acadia National Park and a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor, a bustling little town with many bars, restaurants and cruise ship dock. There are many interesting boat tours from Bar Harbor such as whale watching and nature tours. In the apartment, the living room and bedroom have an open large spacious living plan. We have an outdoor grill for your use and also a bocce court for those inclined.
The village of Bernard is a typical Maine coastal community. There are many quaint shingled homes that sit looking over Bass Harbor. It is a huge lobstering Harbor with many old and new lobster boats. You can buy lobsters right from the fisherman off the dock. There are also many artists who live here with an art workshop and art galleries right nearby.

  • Great week, your Place is perfect blend of comfort and open space... ...we thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the “quiet side”... apt was ultra clean, very well stocked (lobster pot!), and spacious—bigger than pics appear— comfortably decorated—we enjoyed Ginny’s art on the walls—and well located for enjoying all things Acadia without the busy Bar Harbor...

  • We had a great stay and Ginny and Jim's place. Very dog-friendly, easy check-in and a very large space for a couple. It's a short drive to the Southwest Harbor area with easy access to hiking. Would definitely stay again!

  • Excellent location away from all the tourists over the July 4th holiday. Walking distance to my wife's now favorite Maine lobster house (Thurston's). This place was recommended by Jim and it was worthy of a few visits. Location close to Southwest Harbor. A quaint spot on MDI. We enjoyed our 6 day stay and hope to return next year.

  • Ginny and Jim's apartment is the perfect place to stay on the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island. It is a 30-minute drive from Bar Harbor. Thruston's Lobster Pound (best on the island) is 5 minute walk down the hill. Overall, an excellent place to relax and enjoy Acadia National Park/MDI!

  • This is a very cute little cottage. it is on the quiet side of the island, which we absolutely loved - however some may want to be closer to the more busy parts of the island. It’s whatever your preferences are. all amenities are included for cooking, etc. There is even a little fire pit to enjoy. It was cold outside when we were there, but the cottage was warm and comfortable inside - heated by a gas wood style stove. I would highly recommend this place!

    Fran2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous cabin in the woods - really well equipped for relaxing and general chilling; cooking equipment and gas grill. Fire pit for making s’mores in the evening! Location is close to bass harbour- about 40 mins drive to bar harbour or Cadillac Mountain. Lots of nice trails to do around this side of the park though

    Sarah2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin! It was so cozy and private and had everything we could possibly need for a weekend away from home. We loved that we were able to bring our dog with us, too!

  • Tammy is awesome and the cabin is beautiful. Will stay again and absolutely would recommend staying here.

    Kevin2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great find! Clean and well appointed cabin with everything we needed to enjoy a wonderful week in Maine! Thank you!

    Jed2018-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was amazing. Tammy provided every amenity someone traveling from far could expect (We came from Philadelphia, PA). She offered some great local tips, place was sparkling clean and everything we needed were there. Is a very nice cottage in the woods. One mistake on my part - I brought firewood because I thought the picture of the wood stove was a real wood stove but it runs on propane gas. I don't believe I saw this in the listing but I should have asked. All was well though and cottage is relatively new and very clean. Thanks Tammy for a great stay.

  • Oakland House and Cottages in Brooksville, Maine is an amazing find. A perfect tranquil and naturally beautiful spot to hike, fish, kyack, just all manner of water sports. I totally enjoyed waking each morning to see how the lush green vegetation, hear all manner of birds and any atmospheric happening would compliment this unique bit of the Atlantic Ocean. It kept me calm and hiking kept me focused while awaiting the repair of my vehicle transmission. No worries here that the charming and delightfully accommodating staff couldn't remedy. Case in point one of the most gushed about scenes can be captured at Lookout Rock. Well I hiked from 6:40am one morning until 8am returning disappointed that folks had exaggerated the forest only view I had encountered. Oh the gardens her are quite lovely too and well maintained by MP. It was she to whom I expressed this great let down. She was kind enough to ascertain that on my next day out I would not miss the spectacular views from Lookout Rock. I have seldom been so happy to have complained as my eyes danced in marvelous delight at the amazing views. I missed it by just a few feet and having not simply turned arouund to step upon the rock. Albeit a totally different rock than the big one I had found facing the Robinhood forest.😀 If you go here this astonishingly glorious vision is one of the thing you want to see. Thanks so much M.P. Now I know what all the others were gushing about, aside from the water sports etc.

WiFi!! Tiny 'Poet's Cabin' on a secluded lane in the woods. Can sleep up to four guests. Full bed in the upstairs loft and futon in the main floor living area. Plenty of peace and quiet in this getaway just a short walk or bike ride to the ocean. Take a walk to the harbor or a 5 minute drive to Acadia's Wonderland and Bass Harbor Light House. Far enough away from the crowd yet still very accessible to the beautiful town of SWH, Acadia Nat'l Park, Bar Harbor, and Mount Desert Island attractions!
Special thanks to Max Ablicki @ablicki on Instagram (go check it out!) for the amazing photos of our beloved Poet's Cabin!! Take a winter hygge getaway to this cozy little cabin in the woods(plow service, back up generator, available hosts, furry blankets, candles, and hot cocoa!), reserve your summer Acadia adventure, or your autumn Maine leaf peeping tour!! Need more space?? We also have a larger cottage next door (Seawood Bunk House... sleeps 10!). Reserve Poet's, or Seawood, or both together for a bigger crowd! https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20607357?s=51
Small town, friendly seaside village with lots of local crafts, businesses, and talent. With a personal, homemade vibe!!
  • The Poet’s Cabin is the perfect little getaway! Everything about the cabin is adorable and it had everything we needed. I especially loved the vintage books used as decor! Steve and Amber were always quick with responses and answered all our questions. We will absolutely be remembering their cabin for future visits! 100% recommend this functional, cozy, well stocked cabin to anyone.

    Jacob2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures are an accurate representation of the space. Everything was very clean and the basic necessities are provided. Steve and Amber responded timely to any needs and even updated the grill while we were there so we could use it. This is an excellent getaway spot close to lots of trails, scenic sites, and great food!

  • Adorable and cozy cabin in a great location. Easy check-in & out. Hosts responded right away when I had a question. Would definitely go back :)

  • If you are looking for some cozy solitude (we stayed in February) in a cabin appointed with charming little details, this place will due nicely. It established such a so removed from it all quality, we forgot which day we were supposed to check out, but our hosts were very understanding and helpful about it. This is most definitely a "poet's cabin" so expect to be reading or writing, or engaged in some creative endeavor to amuse oneself during the evening, as the wifi was not working for internet and tv. Acadia explorers will find the location to be most convenient. Make sure to check out Schoodick peninsula though it's a little further away! Steve and Amber supplied ample local info for stuff to do in the nearby. We had a wonderful time and thank them sincerely!

  • Great for a weekend getaway. A mixture being isolate but also near some places for groceries or restaurants if needed. We went in the winter so lots of the shops were closed but that was ok by us - we wanted to get away from the bit city for the weekend.

Room Four is our most popular unit. We think it's the combination of the oversized full kitchen and the spectacular view of the harbor from the private balcony. Ideal for longer stays or romantic get aways, this room gives you the flexibility to bring your own groceries and enjoy meals on your own time. Don't forget to add-on our Lobster Dinner package!
  • Amazing location, great views. Sawn’s Lake was a place I would highly recommend!! Really satisfied with this place and the experience in general.

  • Good place to stay on the island. Very clean, great view, and Jennifer was very responsive and communicate both before and during the stay. Good location central to island and she provided maps and information including a schedule of events. Overall, great stay and would recommend and stay again if heading back to Swans island

  • We had a great relaxing night at this Airbnb! The view was beautiful and the room had everything we could’ve needed to enjoy a remote and romantic getaway. Bring wine on island because it is dry and we enjoyed the TIMS on the island for some very inexpensive and DELICIOUS fresh seafood! Our room had the kitchen so we were able to cook fresh dinner! If we hadn’t had the kitchen in our room, unsure how we would’ve eaten other than microwave dinner. The island was a great change of pace and we enjoyed our time. Highly recommend if looking to get off the grid and enjoy some fresh seafood and nice people!

Closed until June 1st! Come stay among moss covered spruce woods in our village of tiny homes and misfit animals, a short walk from the lakes and mountains of ANP. Bike less than 3 miles to see the sunset and picnic by the ocean. Ride the carriage trails to swim at Seal Cove and Long ponds and to hike up the western mountains. Take a short drive to the villages of Southwest for fresh seafood and nighttime entertainment. Even enjoy avant-garde theater in a rustic barn by the sea.
This Yurt is built of split maple poles. There is a skylight in the center of the roof to let in the morning sun. There is a loft made from an arched cedar log, a full sized bed, a sink, counter and shelves.
If you want to buy a boiled lobster on the docks, go to Thurstons restaurant just 6 miles away!
  • As a city girl with the goal of giving my dog the best birthday trip ever, I decided to do a trip to this yurt in Maine. I am not the camping type but I must say the hosts made everything as easy as possible that even a noob like me survived during a pretty bitter MLK weekend. The animals in their farm were adorable. The spring water was yummy. The yurt was cozy. Bring extra blankets and pillows! And of course if your coming in the winter some extra fire starters and dry wood Can really save your butt. Their is a plug for your phone but be mindful it is a usb/car outlet. My dog ended up having the time of your life 10/10 will recommend. Will come again.

    Kimberly2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome experience, the yurt was warm, comfortable and easy to access. Well equipped for cooking/relaxing. The farm is great to explore, and the hosts are fantastic!

  • A magical escape, we loved our stay at the Howling.

    Amelia2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Fox’s Hollow was the perfect secluded getaway, it was a fantastic experience getting off the grid for a bit. The yurt is very cozy and has all the amenities for a comfortable carefree stay. Candace and Brendan are wonderful hosts and have created quite the fairytale getaway the Howling Woods. Great spot to explore be sure to visit Cedar and Ike up at the farm. Definitely will return for another visit!

    Leah2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING AIRBNB. I really enjoyed the amenities inside the yurt; lots of thoughtful touches to keep us cozy and get through our stay with comfort in mind! There were assorted teas, hand warmers, and candles inside! The bedding kept us super warm despite it being snowy weather. I also really liked that there was a binder inside the yurt with all of the details of the area including how to use the wood stove, where to find restrooms, shower house, and water well. I also found the hosts to be VERY VERY helpful and attentive, whenever we ran into them around the premises they were very friendly and always asked how we were doing. We were planning to do a lobster boil and Candace so generously offered me one of their personal pots to use! Advice I would give to prospective guests is to thoroughly read the description of the airbnb; most notably (and understandably) there is no running water inside the yurt, a few light sources inside, and a few outlets for electricity. I found it helpful to bring a headlamp! Definitely a fun, cozy, rustic place to stay!

    Lora2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fairytale experience. Expect a comfortable camping experience. When we visited in November, the woodstove made for cozy evenings. We appreciated bringing our own pillows and a small folding table.

    Brett2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute cozy place! Highly recommend staying here!

    Arianna2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Howling woods, it was so peaceful and quiet, especially when it rained at night. Candice was extremely responsive to my questions answering them right away. The experience itself was a glorified camping experience, we had brought our dog which was so much fun in the yurt. There were some great unexpected features as we knew we were staying "off the grid". There was a propane stove, small lights that lit up the whole yurt, as well as a little charging station for our phones. The wood stove was perfect for keeping the yurt warm in the chilly nights, there was a great fire pit and it was an awesome feature that there was plenty of seasoned wood available for our use There was a well available for fresh water as well as an adorable misfit farm on the property. Everything seemed to be within a 20-30 minute drive which we were ok with. Yummy restaurants such as Charlottes and side street grille and great hikes all throughout the area made the drives worth while. We especially liked the old Rockefeller property because we could have our dog off leash and there were some great trails! Even saw a bald eagle as we were on our way off the island. Must stop shop is def Bark harbor if you have a dog they were all so nice in there! Geddys in down town bar harbor had some delicious drinks as well! Acadia was mind blowing, def spend some time there, but enjoy the peace and quiet of the yurt when you return. Over all we had such a lovely 4 day getaway. Just perfection! Thank you!!

This prototypical Maine summer cottage includes a large private deck facing a saltwater cove. Kitchen sliders open onto deck and bring sea breezes to you. Full indoor bathroom but our outdoor shower caps your summer swimming and boating experience. A true New England, eco-friendly guest house!
Rural Deer Isle, Maine living is a throwback to a gentler era in which all neighbors know and support each other, there are no traffic lights on the island, and no chain stores/billboards/commercial advertising of any kind. Stonington Harbor is Maine's busiest commercial lobster fishery with 300+ independently owned and operated small fishing vessels making it their home. When you come over our 1939 bridge across Eggemoggin Reach you get away to a different world.
  • This cozy cottage is in a beautiful setting. It’s close to everything and Judith has supplied you with oodles of information about everything and any kind of activity that could interest you. Her info is spot on, her communication excellent. The pet greeters are the sweetest things with fur on 4 feet. Don’t be deceived by the photos - it is actually larger than it looks and, if some of you are sleeping on the futon in the living room, there’s even a way to close it off so others in the rest of the house don’t disturb you if they stay up later or get up earlier. Deer Isle is a wonderful place, this is a cozy place to stay, and Judith’s copious info about the island will let you select all the best it has to offer.

  • This little cottage is a lovely and comfortable oasis. It served us well as an excellent base camp to explore the island and down east Maine. We slept here better than I can recall in years. We found ourselves not want for anything; and not wanting to leave.

  • Judith's Artists cottage was clean and well kept inside and out! We enjoyed all aspects of the cottage and the outside shower was perfect. The house was comfortable for cooking, relaxing and reading and was easy to find with Judith's directions. Judith's dog, Jackson, was a treat especially since he tolerated our dog Fiona, who is more of a 3 year old puppy. Best of all, we thought Judith was a great person as well as a great host!! We'll be back if Judith will have us!!

  • I stayed here for 2 months. The cottage, location and Judith's (and partner Linda) hospitality exceeded my expectations. This was my first visit to this area of Maine. The villages of Deer Isle & Stonington offer many hiking trails, a great farmers market, the Stonington Opera House, and a number of casual and acclaimed restaurants in Stonington and the nearby Blue Hill. The description and photos accurately describe this idyllic cottage. The cottage is located among beautiful gardens and fruit trees. The deck is a great location to spend mornings with your coffee or enjoying an afternoon cocktail looking out to the cove. Jack, Nellie and Olive were welcoming pets. A wonderful experience I hope to duplicate someday.

    Ernie2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Judith’s place is a treasure, collections of many beautiful things collected over time from old photographs to perfectly rounded stacking rocks to potted succulents draping luxuriously in window sills. Breakfast of the world’s best granola, locally roasted coffee, and berry jams on dark toasted hot walnut/raisin toast with farm fresh butter melted to glaze. Beds that we all fell asleep in instantly, impossibly comfortable. Gardens bursting with life and filled with busy bees harvesting thighfuls of pollen. Friendly conversation, tips about local artists and farms, glorious island hikes, and cold water swims on pebbly beaches. Loved this place. What a privilege.

    Camela2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, beautiful grounds, perfectly clean and comfortable. Bright starry skies at night and almost complete silence for great sleeping. Perfect deck for sitting and reading. Easy access on and off the island for exploring. Judith is a thoughtful and attentive host. Just what I was looking for.

    Caroline2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third year returning to Judith’s cottage on Deer Isle, and we’ll wait impatiently until we return next summer. The space is so homey, perfect to sit quietly and watch the scenery, swim in the cove, or enjoy the company of Judith or her cat. Deer Isle continues to be a place we can grow into - returning to old favorites and discovering new ones. We didn’t leave the island at all for the whole week.

This room boasts a fine view of the harbor and two extra-long twin beds. Are you ready to get away from it all? Come jump on a ferry and join us out on Swan's Island for a bit of Maine where neighbors still wave to one another.
This home was built by my grandfather in 1927. It has harbor views from almost every room and is cozy no matter the season. This rental includes two bedrooms with one queen bed and two extra-long twin beds that are connected by a full bathroom with tub.
The neighborhood is a quiet fishing community. There is one store on the island that also offers takeout. There are beaches and trails to explore. Up the road is a quarry you can swim in!
  • Nancy is a fabulous host and we look forward to staying with her again sometime

  • I loved watching the terns hunt, and my son loved poking around the boulder-y shore. The air is fresh and the area is tranquil. The house matches the feeling.

  • Nancy's home is a lovely place to stay on beautiful and quiet Swan's Island, Maine. Nancy (and her Maine Coon Muschi ) are so welcoming and her home is comfortable and clean. We were able to use her kitchen to prepare our meals and just sit in her backyard overlooking the bay to read, visit with other guests, and watch the gulls and Arctic Terns in the water right outside her back door. Swans Island is wonderful. While we were there we enjoyed a community chowder cook-off and a community breakfast, went on hikes, shopped for local seafood at Tim's Market, and visited the Burnt Coat Harbor Light Station museum. We enjoyed taking the small ferry to Swans Island and back to Bass Harbor at the beginning and end of our stay, as it made us feel that we were really getting away from the more crowded areas on the coast. Be sure to make ferry reservations ahead of your visit. If you are looking for a quiet get away on a quintessential Maine island then you should stay at Nancy's lovely and welcoming home.

  • Nancy was a wonderful host. Her house is cozy with a wonderful location. We cooked lobsters and clams in her outside cooker, and ate them on her deck, while taking in the view of the harbor. The accommodations were very clean. Nancy knows the island like it’s her own and can help newcomers with suggestions, tips, etc. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast before we left. Highly recommend!

  • Nancy was a wonderful host! Her home is on a beautiful cove and the view was amazing. It was quiet and relaxing to be there. Nancy made a delicious breakfast and was very helpful. I have never slept better. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • Nancy is one-of-a-kind, she is what makes this place so great! The place is good on its own too, though, make no mistake. I love the location, and the room has such a comfortable & homey feel. But Nancy's knowledge of Swan's Island and Mill Pond and everything in between is extensive. You really get to know the island much better in her company than you would any other way. I also especially appreciated her hot breakfasts every morning. Even when I had an early departure on the last day, she wrapped up two of her homemade muffins for me. I feel so lucky to have stayed at Carter's B and B!

    Kendra2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Swans Island is a quiet island reachable only by ferry from Bass Harbor. No stores, restaurants on the island. The library is great. The fog rolls in. The harbor bells ring. It's beautiful.

    Sharon2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy is a Terrific Host! If your lucky enough to book with her you will see why. A wonderful location to recharge! We will be back!

A gorgeous very large wall tent on your own end of the point! Private breathtaking views of bass harbor surround you! Our shared spaces and facilities are across the road leaving you a good fistance from all the other guests.
A boutique tent well decorated and private with stunning views
  • This Airbnb is a great hub for adventure, especially if you are visiting Acadia. I only stayed for a night, but it was a lot of fun. The tent had a great view of the harbor, but also gave me a good nights sleep. Floyd is very responsive and seems to have thought of everything a visitor could need.

    Andrew2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location in a well appointed glamming style tent. It was a bit chilly dipping into the 30s at night, but Floyd graciously provided us with portable propane heaters and lots of extra blankets. No WiFi in the tent, but there’s cell service. The location to the lighthouse was stellar and we ate at thurstons lobster pound and a little local pizza joint down the road. Only addition that I could imagine would be a fire pit out front on the water, but there is one across the street.

    Lora2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • The place is just as expected from the listing. It’s also cool how it’s on a little private peninsula.

    Randy2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This location is unmatched. The sunset and sunrise was a spectacle. There were chairs to sit and enjoy the view. It's located in a very private part of MDI if you're looking to get away from the hustle of Bar Harbor.

    Cody2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Wish we could have stayed to enjoy some kayaking. Tent was just what we needed for our short trip, and quick drive over to Acadia. It's on the harbor so you definitely get some of the early AM dock ambiance, but adds to it all. We'd definitely stay again next time we're in town.

    Andrew2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot with incredible views. cold at night (bring stuff to bundle up!) and a little noisy but worth it for the experience ! The tent was cute and homey and the common area was perfect for grabbing coffee in the morning.

    Lacey2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sunset point ended up being a great place for a romantic getaway for 3. We stayed in the first week of September, and while the temperatures were a bit cooler (~50-55 at night, 65-70 during the day) the tent was perfectly suitable and kept us warm enough throughout the stay. The shared facilities boasted everything we needed with the outdoor hot shower and port a potties. We took the provided bicycles on a ride to nearby bass harbor lighthouse for some spectacular views. The location is fantastic, being on the quieter side of the island but perfectly easy to spend a day on the eastern side as well. Overall, this is a fantastic place for anyone looking for a no-frills romantic spot to getaway and enjoy the Acadian wilderness together.

    Ray2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was nicer than I expected. The location is extremely unique. We got lucky with the weather and the stars were unbelievable. A wonderful experience.

  • Great views and perfect basecamp for exploring Acadia. The camp is very charming! We enjoyed taking the canoe out and doing some fishing on Echo Lake. Bill was very responsive to our needs. And the bed was very comfortable and cozy!!!

    Jennifer2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect getaway for two, although it sleeps five. Private, rustic, lovely lake view, clearly a place that has meant a lot to the family who owns it. Host was very responsive.

  • Amazing views from the camp. The house is cozy and comfortable. Great location with lots of hiking nearby. Bill’s description is accurate and honest.

  • An outstanding location in the heart of Acadia and smack dab in the middle of everything...!

    DennyMike2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This location is delightful and an amazing venue from which to explore Acadia and the island. Everything is just a few minutes drive from this very centrally located cabin. Additionally, waking up to the pond every morning and grilling by the water every night is the best way to experience the parks!

    Stephen2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this cabin! The location was ideal for exploring Acadia, and the view of the lake and the porch just could not be beat. We also loved the canoe and the outdoor shower!

    Courtney2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot beat this place. The best views to wake up to and a perfect location for sunset every night. We loved our stay here and both agree it's our favorite place we've ever stayed. From the excellent fire pit to the floating dock and outside shower. Everything was great and functional enough for us to make our stay convenient and relaxing. It's very close to multiple trails in Acadia and multiple restaurants in the southeast harbor. Cannot recommend booking this place for your next trip if it's available.

New rustic cabin in the woods near the water. Quiet and peaceful. Family friendly. Great reviews. Walk in the woods, sit on the deck, follow the winding path down to our private rocky beach and if you are brave, swim in Maine's chilly waters! It is a great spot for children to live with nature. The cabin has beds for four, and a futon in the living room for afternoon naps. The fishing village of Stonington is about 3 miles away where you can enjoy lobster just fresh from the sea. Peaceful.
  • This is a stunning getaway in one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in the U.S. We felt lucky to stay at David and Carolyn’s Homestead Cabin and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Deer Isle is hidden gem. They are truly super hosts, so if you are thinking of visiting Deer Isle and the Acadia area don’t hesitate to grab this one while you can!!

    Zachary2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a wonderful place and a perfect place to lay ones head. We came up for a wedding with a few extra days to relax and explore. We visited Acadia national park (hour plus drive) did the precipice trail (intense) the next day went to barred island, sandy beach and Stonington down town. Loved all of the adventures and sites we visited. Especially the cabin property with morning picnics and evening star gazing on the water. This place is amazing we will be back sooner that later.

    Ed2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay and we highly recommend it! The cabin is cute, cozy, and very clean. Easy communication with the hosts and no problems with check in/out. They were so helpful when we accidentally locked ourselves out during our stay. The property and surrounding area are beautiful! If you love the Maine Coast you will love it!

  • This home is the perfect vacation spot. It is set in a beautiful location, which invites relaxation. At the same time, it is near anything you would need, including hiking areas and shopping. The hosts, David and Carolyn, provide all you need within the home and maps to orient you to the beauty on the island. This is a real treasure!

    Linda2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location, on the rugged Maine coast. The Cabin is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Peace and quiet are the rewards that are gained by stay Img here. The hosts are the nicest people you could ever meet. They are like a second family. It’s always a pleasure to spend time here. But Beware: your time here is going to fly by way to fast... and you’ll have withdrawal symptoms when you get home.

  • My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the cabin on our trip to Maine. It was exactly what we were looking for: quiet, secluded and peaceful. Steve and Roberta were wonderful hosts and very nice people.

    Aaron2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Unless you have weeks to spend exploring the glorious coast of Maine, you will be more than content staying at the delightful, fully accommodating cabin. The cabin, its surroundings and its host (Captain Steve) were simply lovely. And speaking candidly, I so wish in the one weeks time that I was there, that I had simply stayed put. It was incredibly peaceful, charming and comfortable. I could not have been more pleased.

    Jacie2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful secluded location and the private beach was so amazing in the morning. Come to Stonington to see the real coastal Maine.

  • Cozy, rustic cabin in the woods. Short walk to the rocky shore. Perfect for an active outdoor vacation getaway or just relaxing. Captain Steve is a great host and valuable resource for discovering Deer Isle and the surrounding waters. This was our first time at DI, but won’t be our last. If we could give 6 stars, we would!

Charming 8-room island cottage bursting with natural light. Rare access to Burnt Coat Harbor. Minutes from swimming quarry & Mill Pond Park. Pick fresh blackberries. Enjoy lobster right off the boat. Kayak. Bike. Come away to Swan's Island.
Summer rentals are by the week, Saturday to Saturday. If you see an open Saturday on the availability calendar, that means that whole week is available. Simply click on your arrival date and Airbnb will open the week for you to book. If you would like to stay for 2 or more weeks, please send me an inquiry prior to booking. All bedrooms are located upstairs (which are rather steep). The sofa in the living room pulls out to a queen-sized bed; the futon on the front porch also makes into a very comfortable queen-sized bed. The house has one bathroom on the first floor with a tub/shower and washer & dryer. Fully stocked kitchen includes basic spices & condiments, olive oil, flour and sugar. Kindly replace any items you empty or notify us in advance so that we may replace these items prior to the next guests' arrival. Plan to ferry over groceries for the week as there is one small store on the island that carries essentials only (& ice cream). Small appliances include toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, tea kettle, hand mixer, hand-held immersion blender. The house is also stocked with an ample supply of toilet paper, paper towels, and a kitchen sponge. Please be mindful of our septic system and do not use products with bleach, phosphates or harmful chemicals. The house has very clean water supplied by a well with an excellent filtration system; it is safe for drinking. You do not need to bring bottled drinking water. There is a very nice portable crib (NOT a pack-and-play) and one good quality high chair at the house. Please notify us if you will be using these so we can leave them out for you.
Burnt Coat Harbor is a working harbor. The lobster boats go out at sunrise, which in summer is quite early. Although the cottage is located on the upper end of the harbor a good distance from the wharf, boats can be heard as well as the sound of the buoy bell at the harbor's entrance. The cottage itself is situated on a main road. Be prepared for some cars on the road, especially in early morning when fishermen (and women) are headed to the wharf.
  • We had a fantastic stay here in Swan’s Island. The home was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The pictures do not fully do the home justice. Our kids enjoyed seeing the chickens, and spotting different birds on the feeders out the windows. It was also well-situated in walking distance to the quarry and to a small playground. We were happy exploring the island and coming back home to play some board games. We look forward to staying here again as soon as we can.

  • Sweet cottage set in the village of Minturn on Swan’s Island Maine! Just down the road is the working waterfront and the Quarry swimming area. Also the town park which has the amazing view of Burnt Coat Harbor, the lighthouse, and Harbor Island. You can sit there and just watch the peaceful world go by, with nothing but the sound of the Harbor bell, the seagulls, and the ocean. Burnt Coat Cottage is a classic Island home, immaculately clean, comfortable, and full of charm. The kitchen is fully equipped and updated. Our favorite room was the sunroom as you entered the home Where we sat and read, had coffee, and watch the chickens cavort in the yard!

  • My family had not been to Maine in 21 years and we decided to meet my son a busy Navy pilot, and his young family and ferry over to Swann's Island to stay at the Conte home. It was perfect for us. Bar Harbor is cool because of all the restaurants and shops and nearness to Acadia but Swann's island and this home were great to REST and REFILL. First, Ann, the host was super helpful and gave us pointers of what to do while there and where to go and where to shop (Tim's!). She was available to us before and during our stay which was helpful. The home is an old home, that has been mostly remodeled. The kitchen looked brand new. The firepit and deck were great We had a fire every night and made many memories with the grandkids . . . "S'more" than you could imagine! The home had a nice assortment of pots, pans, dishes, accessories and other things needed. We cooked and ate lobster, steaks on the grill, salads and so much more. Had some Maine beer and good wines as well. Swann's Island has 315 year round residents and maybe 1100 in the summer. We were there in mid September and it was not crowded at all. The people on the island do not bother you but they are unusually friendly. Definitely surprised us. There is a 2-3 minute walk down to the water and you can swim or Kayak or float there. Also a great place to walk and they have a beautiful library on the island. Ann told us of other great spots and beaches to hike to on the island. We did not need AC at all. Just opened the windows. This 80?? year old home has it's era's classic steep stairs, but we had no problem with them. If you have very young children you will want to bring a safety gate. If you have a physically challenged person the stairs could be an issue. I have some IT Band leg issues but had no problems ascending and descending. Just do not over imbibe and walk up in your socks!! Bottom line, this home is a sweet home on a quiet island. It is a happy place and a peaceful place. it is a place to rest and refill and enjoy the beauty of a rural Maine Island. The outside fire pit and wood provided made many happy memories. Tim's is a nifty little store that has most anything you need except adult beverages. Great soups, sweet rolls, vegetables, meats, milk, pizza, etc We had fun at the CoOp and bought our lobsters there. Went to a loving little Church of God (not our normal denomination) on the island and were impressed with how loving the people were and sweet worship.. If you are not sure about going to Swann's Island, DO! We think this home is a great value. If you have any questions feel free to...

  • AMAZINGLY CHARMING - SUPER LOCALE. COZY. MAXIMIZE YOUR HOLIDAY. WARMLY APPOINTED. CARINGLY DONE. DREAMY.

    Jeffrey2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Burnt Coat Cottage was classic and beautifully charming! The whole home was fully stocked and provided every amenity and extra we could ever dream of. It was exceptionally clean and full of natural light. There was space inside and out for our group of 6 to gather as well as plenty of space for us to spread out and relax, read a book, or do a puzzle. The steps upstairs to the bedrooms are steep, but they are easy to get used to. The best slinky stairs we have ever seen! The kids loved them! The backyard had a fire pit, plenty of space to play and explore, along with a short walk to a lovely private shore access point. The kitchen had a wonderful workspace and new fridge and even a Sonos Wi-Fi speaker that filled the downstairs with music. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable and the VCR added a nice nostalgic touch! Swan’s Island was absolutely stunning! Be sure to check out the Lobster Museum, the old lighthouse (especially at night), the Fine Sand Beach, the beautiful hiking trails, and don’t miss hiking to the top of or swimming in the quarry…and we sure hope you get a chance to meet Suzette. Her garden rocks and her laugh is contagious. We adored every minute on the island and in this home. The only bad thing about it was that we had to leave. Truly. We travel full time and this has been our favorite house to date. A few things to note: be sure and make a ferry reservation ahead of time and TIMS carries a few things (like, excellent fresh lobster), but buy your groceries and bring them with you. Also, we came here with the intention of exploring the island, but also planned on riding the ferry and the bus over to hike Acadia for a few day trips. We ended up only going once and it was our least favorite day due to the time constraints of the bus, ferry, and the massive amount of people at the park. Acadia was incredible and worth it, but honestly, we just preferred staying on the island. If we did it over again, we would camp at Acadia for a few days and then head to the island and not leave…like, ever. It was pretty close to perfection.

  • Fantastic cottage to spend a quiet week. Would definitely visit again.

    Steve2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • This cedar shingled Maine house is situated in a lovely spot, just up from a protected cove. The house itself is beautifully clean, updated and maintained. Our family loved traipsing down a short path to the cove, sea kayaking and watching gorgeous sunsets. We explored Swan's island's beauty and laid-back friendliness. Fresh lobster off the boats, fresh water swim quarry, wild blueberries! Ann stayed in touch and smoothed our ferry crossing and arrival. The most important thing to know: we hated to leave at our week's end.

  • If you are going to Swans Island, this is the place to stay. It's sparkling clean, well-decorated, and has everything you could possibly need while you're there. Ann and her daughter are super polite and communicative. My friends and I couldn't have asked for a better backdrop for our yearly trip to the island.

This precious family cottage is perched on the rugged coast line and gives the feeling that you are on a boat. Camprene has amazing views and is comfortably equipped making this little cottage a sweet retreat.
Camprene has one bedroom, a three- quarter bathroom and a small kitchen. In the kitchen there is an electric range, a refrigerator, dishes and basic cookware, a kuerig, and a microwave. There is a dining nook for two and a love seat couch which also converts into a twin sleeper. The three quarter bathroom was just recently outfitted with a new shower. There is also a small bedroom with a full bed and dresser. One of the most glorious features of Camprene is the large oceanfront deck which now boasts a new gas grill. Watch the working waterfront in full action as sailboats, lobster vessels, pleasure boats and many other vessels work around the many islands that are speckled all around Stonington’s coastline. There is also easy access to launch your kayak just feet from the cottage. If you are looking for a simple, in-town cottage with great ocean frontage then look no further Camprene is just the place for you. Reserve your time in the cottage today.
In-town location offers many options for enjoying village activities and harbor views.
  • Camprene is a magical experience! This cozy Captains Cottage was stocked with everything and decorated with loving care. From the moment we arrived to a welcoming light on the door to snuggling down in the bed listening to the fog horn we were transported back in time. This cozy cabin is located near all the action and everyday we watched the tide go in and out while observing all the hard working lobster fishermen. It is located next to the Lobster co op and we had fresh lobster every night from our cozy little table with a magnificent view of the harbor. The bed was very comfortable with high quality linens. There were plenty of towels and everything was in perfect working order. This was our best vacation ever and we will come back many times. Thank you to the owners of Camprene for making our experience a complete delight!

  • Want to be one the water....and near the lobster boats? Hugh deck outfitted with great furniture. The little cabin is well prepared; best for two or three with a child. The location is perfect to enjoy walking to "town". It was perfect for the two of us.

Light, modern second floor apartment with deck and panoramic views of the harbor. Perfectly located right on the water within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Sip drinks overlooking the water, or borrow a kayak from the shared dock and putt around the harbor. The owners and other guests inhabit the same building but there is a private entrance and wall to wall carpeting to muffle sound. Can also be combined with the downstairs unit to accommodate larger families.
A world-class location, Southwest Harbor is Bar Harbor without the crowds! Walk to Red Sky or the Claremont for fine dining, paddle across the harbor to XYZ for margaritas and authentic Mexican or take the boat to Islesford Dock from steps away. Catch some live music and tapas at Coda or Sips, or walk to Beal’s for Lobster. Or call early and order a farm- to-table dinner to go from Red Sky and eat ribeye and halibut on your private deck overlooking the harbor! If you are feeling active there are countless hiking trails and the free Island Explorer bus stops right outside. Acadia mountain is a 5-minute drive, or explore the natural Seawall or Bass Harbor. Bar Harbor, Sand Beach, Cadillac Mtn. and Northeast Harbor are all a quick 25-minute drive away. Nestled with three other cottages in a quaint residential neighborhood on the shore of Southwest Harbor, you can witness a variety of interesting boating activities from your porch. A ferry which goes to some of the outer islands passes several times a day to the Upper Town Dock. Lobster fishermen moor their boats and work off the lobster wholesaler's docks just next door. Across the harbor is Dysart's Great Harbor Marina, hosting everything from commercial fishing boats to world class yachts in the summer months. Acadia National Park, with its nearly 32,000 acres of land offers unequaled beauty and ocean front access. Over 55 miles of carriage trails created and gifted to the people by John D. Rockefeller provide easy hiking and biking to the summits of nearby mountains with vista of unrivaled beauty. In spite of all the physical beauty and charm of the 'Island' we hear most from our newer guests that they were most impressed with the friendliness of the community and the people of Southwest Harbor. Most are anxious to make a visit to Southwest Harbor an annual affair! While there are other renters in the building, the upstairs unit has wall-to-wall carpeting so noise has not been an issue.
Clark Point neighborhood is unique, rich in a variety of offerings and activities within minutes by foot, boat, bike or auto! Being on the Harbor provides and ever changing visual experience. Heavily populated in the summer with an incredible array and variety of watercraft, from the fleet of vintage Friendship Sloops to luxury Hinckley sale and power boats, to the commercial fishing fleet of lobster boats and scallop draggers. This property is 'south facing' which makes it a warm and welcoming place for us during the 'off season'... Our 'winter' home is Bangor where we work in real estate and insurance, 46 miles away, but spend nearly every weekend during the fall, winter and spring seasons! Our property and location is great because there is a mix of summer residents and year 'round residents... there is an active community here in the 'off season' During the summer the bus stops at our doorstep providing free transportation around Mt Desert Island. But when its not we are within a short distance to the Causway Club, which has nine hole golf course, clay tennis courts and a salt water heated pool. On the other side of the Club is the Park with superb hiking. One fantastic hike is Flying Mountain which is only about 250' in elevation and takes only 20 minutes to climb. The reward is a fabulous view East overlooking Somes Sound, Northeast Harbor and the ocean and islands off shore. The trail continues down to Valley Cove on the Sound and there's a fire road returning you to the point of beginning. The proximity to the vibrant village 'downtown' adds to the location. The village offers a great library, Harbor House a community neighborhood organization offering 'YMCA' type of programs for folks of all ages, a great bakery, specialty wine store, a gourmet food market, bike shop, pharmacy, and an array of fine restaurants. Personally, the property provides access to the harbors and islands around Mt Desert Island.
