  • Only stayed one night but we enjoyed the location and the accommodation was perfect for the two of us. It was not walking distance into town, but a short drive of a few minutes. Really nice setting and sunset there- thanks!

  • The airside cabins are only a short drive away from the scenic township of Stanley and are tidy and clean.

  • Really pretty view, good location close to Stanley, nice little set up.

  • We loved the 2 cabins we stayed in. They were both warm and cosy. There was a good kitchen in both and an electric blanket on the bed in both (much appreciated!). The area is quite pretty but can be very humid (we were there in August). Our host had started the heater in the cabin prior to our arrival to remove the dampness and it was nice and warm when we got in after dinner. The cabins are 5 minutes away from Stanley where we found good dining options. Recommended.

Coastal Escape... One night is simply not enough! Little Talisker is a charming sun drenched historical cottage in Stanley, the stunning seaside village that we love. You can spend weeks here, walking the beaches, climbing the Nut, exploring the historical village, swimming, cooking, dreaming and relaxing. We find it hard to tear ourselves away - and we know you will too. It is in the heart of Stanley and has stunning views of the beach and the iconic Nut. Park the car and walk everywhere!
Namesake... We named the cottage after Talisker House which was built in the 1700s on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where my husband spent much of his childhood. Both houses are steeped in history and situated on small seaside bays with towering volcanic rock behind. About the cottage... Litttle Talisker is our pride and joy. It is our family escape, in a stunning location in a charming seaside village that delights and inspires us. One bedroom is downstairs and the other two are dormer bedrooms which are accessed via a staircase, these dormer rooms were only added in recent times. We have renovated to expose the original Baltic floorboards and discovered a convict brick fireplace which was hidden behind layers of plaster. We've sourced original coastal artworks and lime-washed furnishings from around Australia to create a charming relaxed coastal style. My husband and his brother built the courtyard walls from stone sourced from local farmers on the green hills around the base of the Nut. Payment was fittingly in the form of a bottle of Talisker whisky. We've created a beach house for relaxed family gatherings. You could spend weeks here walking, swimming, climbing the Nut and exploring the village and surrounding countryside. You can read, play games, watch movies and cook up a storm in the large stainless steel kitchen. With a marble topped kitchen island and ample cook books, just stock up on groceries from the local providore and supermarket so that you can self cater and enjoy. There is a coffee plunger, coffee perculator and Nespresso pod machine for your enjoyment. The dining room is stunning and the stone walled courtyard has majestic views of the Nut towering above. One of the best times of the day is sunset when you can sit on the veranda with a glass of bubbles and watch the sunset over the beach and the green hills. We have set the cottage up to be child friendly for families to enjoy. There is a retractable child gate at the bottom of the stairs, portacot, highchair and the courtyard is fenced. You can throw open the french doors in the dining room and relax while your children play in the fenced courtyard. The bathroom is stunning and is fully renovated, and the laundry facilities make the self contained cottage a breeze to enjoy. Full of History... Little Talisker cottage was built in 1892 and has sweeping views of the beach and rolling green hills. It backs onto the Nut and many large local families have resided in the cottage over the last century from fisherman to lighthouse keepers and paperhangers & decorators. It is situated on a heritage street lined with similar cottages which nestle into the base of the towering Nut and have sweeping views of the beach below. Playgrounds, beaches, award winning cafes and restaurants are located at either end of the street and you can walk to all amenities. Enjoy!!!
Little Talisker is in a heritage street of century old cottages nestled under the Nut and facing spectacular Tatlow beach on Sawyer Bay. Situated in Stanley it is within easy walk to the providore, supermarket, cafes, galleries, award winning restaurants, Cellar door and the Stanley Hotel. Explore nature and see the wildlife on the Nut, where mutton birds nest and potaroos abound, or see the fairy penguins on the beach at dusk. Stanley village is a hive of activity in the summer and gets quiet in the winter. We adore spending time here all year round and love each season equally. Immerse yourselves in the rhythms of this quaint seaside village and the spectacular and rugged north west coast.
  • We absolutely fell in love with Talisker Cottage. Could not have asked for a better home for our 3 night stay in Stanley. Beautifully appointed and in an incredible location, we never wanted to leave. Would highly recommend.

  • I booked Little Talisker for my parents as a birthday getaway. They had a wonderful time and said the cottage is just as gorgeous in person. They loved it so much they want to move in now! It's in a great spot to explore the town and The Nut by foot. And Kerry was so lovely to deal with and very prompt with communicating. Highly recommended if you're visiting this gorgeous little town.

A lovely, private Cubby. You have Paris rooftops to the west. Greece, with sea views, olives, lemons and grape vines to the north. Asia to the south. And from the eastern deck, The Nut.
  • Sam and Louise are great hosts and attended to my queries and needs promptly. The Cubby is a wonderful tidy, spacious area with everything you would need to enjoy your stay in Stanley. It is centrally located and access to The Nut is a short walk away. Restaurants are mere step across the street and most importantly, the Angel's Share, located in front of the place, is a must visit for anyone who enjoys a fine dram of single malt whisky. The very best crafted Tasmanian Single Malts can be sampled and tasted here.

You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, set on 120 acres of beautiful farm land only minutes to the historical township of Stanley. • We loved our stay at 'Anthony's at Highfield'. The location is spectacular, with the Highfields historic site right out front and rolling fields and vast blue ocean out the back. We took the opportunity to say hello to the cows and walk down to the private beach, which was breathtaking with its cliffs and seal colony on a little island just off shore and the kids loved spotting beach treasure. We were amazed at how much history the nearly 200 year old house contained. Staying at Anthony's on Highfield was like stepping back in time. It was lovely to have Audrey greet us at check in and share the history of the house which has been in her family for around one hundred years. She was so gracious with her time in answering our questions and sharing her local insight into the house, the area and offered suggestions for things to do.

We are an small boutique intimate hotel and we are always only a phone call away should you need anything. STANLEY The historic town of Stanley sits on the tip of the peninsula that juts into Bass Strait in far North-Western Tasmania. The buildings of the town huddle under an ancient flat-topped rocky outcrop or volcanic plug called "The Nut". Take the path or the chairlift to the top of the 152 metre headland and enjoy wonderful views up and down the coast. Stanley was established in the early 1800s as the headquarters for the Van Dieman's Land Company which sought to establish a fine merino wool industry as well as grazing operations. Highfield Historic Site, just outside Stanley, includes the homestead built in 1837 for the company, together with workers' cottages, barns and stables. Stanley has been declared a historic town. In the wharf area are several historic buildings. In Marine Park is the former Van Diemen's Land Company Store, now @ VDL Stanley. In Alexander Terrace is the childhood home of Stanley's most famous son, Joseph Lyons, Australian Prime Minister from 1932 – 1939 and the only Tasmanian to hold this office. The Discovery Centre Folk Museum is packed with displays relating to the area's history. There are several art and craft galleries in Stanley, showcasing the best of Tasmanian art and craft. The Nut is a State Reserve and is a haven for migratory birds such as shearwaters and orange bellied parrots, as well as kestrels, falcons and small colonies of fairy penguins. The best time to see the fairy penguins is in the early evening at dusk, when the little birds return to their burrows after a day at sea. Seals can also be seen in the waters off the Nut. Stanley Seaquarium on Fisherman's Dock has a wide variety of Tasmanian sealife on display. @ VDL Stanley is located within close walking distance to all attractions in the town of Stanley. Public transport is very limited and should you wish to discover the surrounding area's a car is an essential part of your planning.
  • This is the place to stay at Stanley! It is such a lovely location and the VDL was beautifully decorated making you feel like you were truly on holiday. The room was set apart from the other rooms making it feel very private and it was very spacious.

  • We arrived in Stanley and immediately were taken with the outside of the building but were more surprised by the inviting and warm inside. The common room had everything that anyone could have asked for. The suite that we stayed in was magnificent. Comfortable bed, great shower and marvellous views. It was all that it was advertised to be. It was the small touches like the chocolates before going to bed were greatly appreciated. Contact from David was minimal but prompt when required. Would absolutely recommend VDL Stanley to anyone who wants to visit this beautiful part of Tasmania. Our only regret is that we only stayed for one night.

    Frank And Paula2015-04-14T00:00:00Z

  • We had a lovely stay in Stanley. The VDL is a beautiful building furnished in a modern comfortable way. It's in a perfect location, close two delicious restaurants. We will be recommending it to others who visit Stanley.

  • We stayed overnight in the King suite, it had modern facilities and was very comfortable. They even gave us a small sampling of chocolates which was a nice touch. The hotel is set in a beautifully restored historic building. There is a spacious common area and three rooms (two suites and a larger, self-contained loft style apartment) so it’s cosy and private. It’s also in a great location - situated near the waterfront and is within walking distance to restaurants, the historic town and the Nut. The host was easily contactable and responded promptly to my messages. We would definitely recommend this property!

  • The Ark Stanley was a fantastic boutique hotel. It exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was huge. We had everything we needed, and Rhonda easily accommodated our late arrival. Also, breakfast was included in the price, which was a huge plus. I would absolutely stay here again!

  • Excellent place to stay in Stanley. Close to eateries, shops, parks, beach - everything. Short drive to scenic lookouts. Three women enjoyed this place as there was heaps of room, warm and inviting (lovely dry wood for the fire) separate toilet for privacy, each had a separate bedroom, could not fault this accommodation. Do not be put off by the street-scape as inside is perfect for a fun stay at a great price. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Stanley. Lucky enough to be offered late checkout on this particular visit which is fantastic as we hate having to leave by 10am. Beds were extremely comfy! Will certainly be back. Thank you Michael and Nanette

  • We travelled to Stanley with another couple for a friends wedding. Overall our stay at Nannette's and Michael's property had all the creature comforts and more. Perfect location close to town, nice neighbourhood, warm cosy house with heaters and a wonderful fireplace. And not to mention comfy beds.

The kitchen was very well equipped, as was the whole cottage. Sam has thought of those extra little details which makes your stay very comfortable. The complementary cheese plate made us feel extra welcome and was just what we needed after a long drive.

The room had a huge bed, bath robes, food for breakfast (bacon, eggs, sausages + 3 x different types of cereal) a coffee machine and Austar. The apartment has been fully refurbished with a nice mix of retro and modern. We were impressed by the spotless, well equipped kitchen with inclusions such as scissors, cotton, band-aids, food wraps, could go on and on but suffice to say any thing you would need was there. • This is a unique apartment in the heart of Smithton. Once a bakery and family home, this apartment offers lots of space, a big open game room, a full sized kitchen, laundry room, and a comfortable living space. It is perfect for a large family or a couple like us. The back game room offered us a "cycle in-cycle out" opportunity as we are traveling by bicycle. The photos posted are accurate as is the description. Hugo Place is a good location to visit northwestern Tasmania from a home base. Communication with Sandra was perfect and we had no problems arriving or departing. The apartment is right in the middle of town (but is quiet inside) within walking distance to shops, restaurants, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our hosts Sandra and Rob who were helpful and inviting. A true Airbnb experience!

Communication with Sandra was fast and nothing seemed to be any trouble. We would recommend this apartment to all, near and far......our stay was the best. Thankyou

  • We had a fabulous couple of days staying in Ellen's Spa Cottage in Stanley. The location was great - we walked to all of Stanley's attractions and range of cafes and restaurants. Ellie was a generous host who made herself available with local information. The cottage was beautifully prepared with many thoughtful touches.

  • The Stanley Guesthouse is fantastic! We had a wonderful time here in this beautiful house. It's got so much full history and Deb and Mark are terrific hosts with great information and advise to share. We will definitely be back here on our next trip to Tassie!

  • This is a lovely period house which has been sensitively restored. The furnishings are all period pieces, giving the whole place a very traditional fee. Everything is spotlessly clean and well supplied (including plunger coffee!). Deborah and Mark were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

  • A spectacular building with an amazing location: we were blown away and so glad we stayed. Thank you

  • Stanley was amazing, we traveled through some rather heavy rain to arrive at Stanely after dark and were delighted to see that David had left a key out for us to get into the building. When we walked into our room, heating was on, lights were on and a delicious array of Tasmainian fudge and truffles were waiting. It was a beautiful welcome after our long drive. We had booked VDL as a special treat for ourselves and were in the King Loft and it is just as the photos show. Beautiful finishes, more than enough room, full amenities and kitchen with all appliances to use if wanted. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were luxurious. The bath was wonderful to have a soak in and the whole layout and feel of the VDL was above and beyond what we hoped. We highly recommend staying in this lovely and unique building and thank David for making our check in and check out so easy.

  • We loved our stay at VDL as part of our honeymoon. A beautifully restored historical building with nice touches. Felt very private and intimate. Definitely recommend if you're after a bit of luxury.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO Established in the early 1800's as the headquarters for the Van Diemen's Land Company, the historic township of Stanley Tasmania is full of character, wonderful locals (population approximately 400) and beautifully preserved buildings. You will find many activities to be undertaken in Stanley, and a different restaurants/eatery to dine each night of the week. There are numerous gift shops, coffee shops, takeaway food shops, a supermarket, and two beaches within easy walk of one another. Following settlement in October 1826 by employees of the Van Diemen's Land Company, along with labourers and prisoners, a port opened in 1827 and the first school opened in 1841. Today Stanley is a tourist destination and both the main fishing port and second-last major township on the north-west coast (travelling west).
  • Our hosts Rhonda and Chris were so pleasant, warm and friendly and extremely obliging. The guesthouse itself was amazing in so many ways, the views spectacular, overlooking the water, and walking distance to town. Could not fault anything. Highly recommend The Ark Stanley, see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

    Gail2016-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Rhonda and Chris’ starting with an early check in so our toddlers could have their nap. That thoughtfulness flowed right through our two nights at the lovey guesthouse where a great deal of time and love has gone into creating an incredibly comfortable home away from home. The highly specced our room, for example, had in addition to its stunning harbour views, all the tools required for a cheese platter (bar the cheese), tim tams, hair straighteners and so on, not to mention an extremely comfy bed. Breakfast was a healthy delicious spread jam packed with locally sourced goodies, homemade jam and stewed fruits. Rhonda even did our washing for us one busy day. Incredible hosts and the perfect spot for exploring lovely little Stanley.

Eagle's Roost Farmstay B&B is an eco-friendly property offering hosted holiday accommodation combining affordable luxury in secluded, beautiful surroundings. Stunning views , landscaped gardens & bushwalk trails in 12 acres private forest.
Eagle's Roost farmhouse is a comfortable cedar clad home with underfloor insulation and heat transfer ducting to all rooms. There are two bedrooms, each with their own ensuite; a double spa room and an 'easy access' wet room shower king/twin bedded room. Full cooked breakfast is provided. There are two patios, both with great views; one facing west and the other north to take advantage of the sun or shelter at different times of the year. There is a large veggie patch which produces fresh produce all year, many fruit trees and a variety of berry bushes. Guests are welcome to pick fresh produce and use in the communal kitchen. Located right next to Rocky Cape National Park, a five-minute drive to beautiful beaches, an easy drive to Stanley, Dip Falls and the Tarkine Drive, Eagle's Roost is a great place to explore the NW of Tasmania from.
Eagle’s Roost is a little bit of paradise tucked in next to the SW corner of Rocky Cape National Park in North West Tasmania. The 18 acres consist of an acre of garden, five acres of paddocks and 12 acres of forest. The National Park and Hellyer Beach are each only a 5 minute drive away. The property is well sheltered from most of the prevailing winds by its own tall forest that encircles the paddocks and garden and has stunning views across Sawyer’s Bay to the Nut and Stanley. Firebreak trails through the forest make for excellent bushwalking, birdwatching, fungi photography or orchid spotting fun. To date over 250 species of fungi have been identified on the 12 acres of forest! Sit for a while at the picnic spot underneath the Grandpa Tree (the highest point of the property) and soak up the view of the farm and Sister’s Hills in the National Park or potter about and explore the trails and gullies with their large man ferns, creek and more huge trees. Feed the chooks and collect the eggs, help feed the cows their daily buckets, browse for raspberries in the extensive vegetable patch or just relax in a garden seat (or on one of the two sheltered patios) with a bottle of red and some local cheeses and watch the sun set over the bay. Rocky Cape Road House and Rocky Cape Tavern are close by for quick meals, a relaxing drink or picking up that forgotten item. If you’re after a special evening meal, excellent restaurants are only 30 minutes away, at Stanley or Boat Harbour, or you might choose to forage for local produce to couple with a Tasmanian wine and picnic on one of the two porches. The Rocky Cape National Park walk trails, the Tarkine Drive and all its stunning attractions (including Trowutta Arch, Milkshakes Reserve, Lake Chisholm sinkhole etc), Dip Falls, historic Stanley, Arthur River/Marrawah and the wild West Coast are easy local day trips. Eagle’s Roost has something special to offer you, whether you’re after a bit of an adventure or a relaxing respite from your busy life
  • Helen is a very friendly and knowledgeable host. We turned up a bit late in the day and she was more than accommodating. We enjoyed an informative and pleasant walk around her woodlands and recieved a fantastic cd of videos from Helen's camera which captured night time images of the resident devils, wombats and wallabies. We also enjoyed meeting the cows, chickens and Molly the dog. Helen offers an extensive breakfast menu and the following day we were treated to the best breakfast in Tasmania! Not to mention the abundance of fruit from her veggie patch that was delicious. (For dinner, the Rocky Cape Tavern is 2 min drive down the road). Eagles Roost is a beautiful farm with great views of the Nut, and is a stones throw from the Rocky Cape beaches. It is also a great starting point for the Tarkine drive which we did the following day. Helen helped identify some of the must sees and is a wealth of knowledge. The house was warm and cosy with the fire on during some unseasonal weather and the room is very comfortable with a fantastic spa suite. We had a relaxing stay and look forward to visiting again next time we are in Tasmania. Thanks Helen :)

  • Top class experience in all directions : Lovely everything ! Helen, dogs, house, room, meals... Besides, Helen has a great knowledge about Nature, due to her previous job, but also because of the real vibes of passion. Be sure to spend few days to explore the region and to relax in the tremendous domain that Helen will make you discover ; fungi talks are so interesting and birds spotting is an open TV programm ! Thanks Helen, Jessy, Maka and Molly. All the best...

  • Helen's place was magical. We stayed in comfort and were hosted magnificently. A comfortable bed, delicious breakfast. Amazing guided walks around the farm and bush, and the nearby national park. Discovered tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies and other elusive wildlife. Helen took great care of us and we got to witness the installation of her solar panels so she not only grows her own food she now generates her own power!
