Charming original 1880's Pullman workers flat in a wonderfully diverse community off the beaten path - Now a National Monument! Artists, historians, preservationists, architects, urban planners... Great place for creatives and explorers visiting Chicago! Your stay supports our visiting artist program.
Enjoy the entire 2nd Floor apartment of an original 1880's Pullman workers two flat row house. The building has been converted to Artist Live/Work Space (working art studio on the 1st floor / apartment on 2nd floor - you will be renting the entire private 2nd floor apartment). Full kitchen (no dishwasher or microwave!), relaxed backyard, washer dryer in the basement (if desired, by request). The building has been featured on several Historic Pullman House Tours over the years. Unique space with lots of original charm. 20-30 minutes to downtown Chicago via metra train or quick access to the highway. Located in the heart of the Pullman Landmark District (Now a National Monument and part of the US National Park Service!). Explore The Historic Pullman community via the Visitor Center for walking tours, history of Pullman with interesting artifacts and more! Stop by our community organic food gardens and bee apiary at the Pullman Factory Site. Stroll through Arcade Park and gaze at the incredible restoration/renovations occurring at the Florence Hotel (and maybe witness an impromptu installation by our prolific Knit 'n Crochet group)... then meander down the street to be charmed by the architecture of the Greenstone Church, keep going and you will run into our new organic urban farm / food justice project (the Cooperation Operation). Hop on the Metra train (Metra Electric line) for a quick 20-30 min ride to all the downtown attractions Chicago has to offer (drops you at the center of everything; Millennium Park, Cultural Center, The Art Institute of Chicago...also stops at the Museum Campus (The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, The Field Museum, and The Shedd Aquarium), McCormick Place and Hyde Park U of C campus). One bedroom has a full size very comfortable bed that sleeps two. The study can also serve as a second bedroom with a modernist chaise lounge that folds down to a daybed for an additional guest if needed. Linens and towels are provided. Check-in check-out times are flexible unless there is someone else coming / going on the same date(s). In that case check-out is 11:00am or before and check-in is 3:00 pm or after. There is plenty of free street parking. ART: Your stay helps support the mosnart artist residency here in Pullman. We invite artists from all over the world to come interact with the history, community, and architecture here by creating art installations of exceptional quality. NOTES ON PULLMAN: The Pullman community is located on the far south side of Chicago and is in my opinion one of the most interesting and diverse areas of the city. People come from all over the world to see the historical remains (incredibly intact) of an industrialists utopia once touted "the worlds most perfect town" (now a National Monument). It is not the gold coast or your typical Chicago tourist spot but is instead a multicultural community engaged in preservation, restoration and re-purpose/reuse. There is a big box super store within walking distance with some organics as well as an eccentric diner/restaurant for fluffy pancakes (breakfast/lunch) and a small cafe across from the Greenstone Church (see menu in pics), but most of your shopping /dining will likely be outside of the community (Hyde Park is a short drive or train ride away with lots of dinning, etc). Pullman is truly unique and filled with charm (and only 20-30 mins to downtown Chicago). I'm pretty sure you will fall in love. Please contact to confirm availability and let me know a little about yourself. Ask all the questions you like! Free WiFi. Backyard. Complete kitchen w/ pots, pans and salad spinners (no dishwasher or microwave!). Organic salad garden (in season). Washer/Dryer (if you let me know in advance). Fully furnished apartment w/ most everything you need! Happy to show you around the neighborhood (if available and desired) and get you settled in. I'm just down the block if you need anything. Also text or phone. Public Transportation: The Metra Electric train runs from Pullman to the Chicago loop on a posted time schedule every few minutes during rush hours to once an hour during the rest of the day/evening Monday through Saturday and every two hours on Sunday. It is a 20 - 30 min ride to downtown. The last train of the evening leaves the Chicago loop 12:50 am. You can find a complete schedule on line at the metrarail site by looking up the Metra Electric Line (ME). The Kensington / 115th Street station is an easy 3 block walk from the flat and takes you to Millennium Park station in the heart of downtown Chicago. Most everyone loves the incredibly comfortable and quick train ride! If you are going to be taking it back and forth you can buy a 10 ride pass, Also offered are weekend passes with unlimited rides for only $8.00... Lots of Pullman people commute to downtown everyday! Public Transportation from the airports: O'Hare: Take the blue line el to the Washington stop and walk over to the metra station at Randolph and Michigan Ave. Take the Metra Electric University Park train to Kensington/115th station and walk 3 blocks to the flat. Very easy. Midway: Take the orange line el to the Randolph/Wabash stop and walk over to the metra station at Randolph and Michigan Ave. Take the Metra Electric University Park train to Kensington/115th station and walk 3 blocks to the flat. Very easy. Auto travelers: We are easily accessible via interstate 94. Downtown is 20-30 mins away via car depending on traffic of course. Plenty of free street parking! No Smoking. The flat is not childproof and really isn't suitable for young kids. Need more space? see my other listing "Pullman Art Studio" and rent both private floors of this two unit building.
The entire town of Pullman was built 1880 as an industrialists utopian community to house his factory workers. It remains remarkably intact and is now part of Chicago and has recently been designated a National Monument and is part of the US National Park Service with With friendly Park Rangers and everything. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for walking maps and history of this remarkable place. • JB's Pullman flat is lovely. It was impeccably clean and well stocked. I arrived late and he was very accommodating. The other reviews are correct that a car is handy to have, but you can get by without it. I would definitely return here the next time I am in Chicago.

  • Such a lovely home! Great for the artist or one who appreciates historic places. Jb is the sweetest!

    Karina2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We richly enjoyed our stay at Jb's Pullman Art Studio. Jb made a great effort to get us checked in early the day we arrived and even gave us a brief tour of the apartment and the attached art studio. Everything we needed for cooking and living was available and staying in the art studio provided amazing ambiance for reflection and relaxation whilst contemplating the many thoughtful artistic expressions around us. The flat is full of natural light and historic charm. Highly recommended!

  • We had a wonderful time staying in the Pullman apartment. JB was very kind with accommodating to meet us later in the day. We loved staying here so much. The place was perfect, we loved the kitchen, the books in the studio, and the bed was very comfortable. We slept like babies. The breeze that flows through the apartment was very relaxing and refreshing. And the natural light made the whole place so beautiful. JB has everything perfectly set up for us with lots of information on what to do around town and how to get around. We knew from before that there wasn't much to do in the area, which was fine with us. We had a rental car and made our way around just fine. We did take a mini tour of the Pullman District and found it lovely and quaint. JB also let us pick some tomatoes from the garden and they were delicious. We sautéed them from breakfast and grabbed a couple more for the road. We would definitely stay here again. We felt right at home. Definitely a favorite.

  • Jb's apartment was superb. Lovely artwork decorating the space and the neighborhood of Pullman was fun to explore and learn about. Jb's notes around the apartment were very considerate and thoughtful to make sure we had a comfortable stay.

  • Very clean and comfortable space in a fascinating historic neighborhood. We enjoyed exploring a different side of Chicago. The place is very well outfitted, clean and had just the right amount of character for out taste. I wish we had been there long enough to cook dinner in the very well equipped kitchen! Easy to park, nice walking neighborhood. It was a bit of a haul to get to University of Chicago where we were visiting our son but it was fun to drive through different areas and explore on our way up to the campus. I have no complaints and would recommend Jb's place to anyone who is looking for something that is more than your standard "hotel" type stay.

  • It's a bit difficult to follow up on the other rave reviews because they have already described it so well. This was our first experience with airbnb.com and I hope future places are as cool as this! It was so nice to stay in someone's home on an out-of-town trip. You feel much more responsible and caring than at a hotel. The breakfast food he put out for us was thoughtful. We brought food and cooked the whole weekend, and the kitchen was outstanding. My boyfriend loved all the art pieces tastefully placed here and there. He was inspired with JB's perspective of how he sees art in the world around us. Yet it was so refreshing to be in a place uncluttered by the junk so many of us seem to accumulate. The neighborhood was other worldly, oddly situated in an industrial area yet almost 100% historically intact. It was quiet and beautiful. The architecture was refreshing after being in urban areas with vacant lots and/or modern architecture my whole life. We walked around and went to the Pullman visitor's center, stopped at the corner store. I had the best barbacoa from that store (watch out Chipotle). The organic/indie/non-hipster/cultural vibe in the neighborhood was awesome. We are definitely coming back here next time we come to Chicago. Thanks JB!

  • This was our first airbnb experience and we couldn't have been more pleased. The apartment was beautiful with old wood work that you don't find anymore. It was filled with art, was light and airy, and even had a garden we were welcome to use. The host, JB, was very accommodating and contacted us much earlier than expected to let us know it was available for check in. He met us and made us feel very welcome. The apartment is in a beautiful old neighborhood with plenty of things to see while walking around. Because of our experience we will be using airbnb again. Thank you JB!

  • Wonderful home filled with love and happiness. Everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. K & Fallon go out of their way to make you feel at home. Even the dogs will welcome you! We wish we could have stayed longer!

    Anthony2017-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • FIRST! With that out of the way, K and Fallon could not have been more gracious hosts. They were communicative and attentive, and when they said, “Make yourself at home,” they really meant it! It almost felt like staying with family; that is how comfortable they made me feel. I had a large bathroom with a skylight all to myself and a large, comfortable bed in a private room upstairs. However, I didn’t spend much time to myself while at K’s place since they were such cool. I also loved petting Grayson, the larger of his two dogs. For the area, there is lots of great, inexpensive food within a few minutes’ drive, and it’s roughly a 35 minute drive into the city for nightlife.

  • They were very friendly and nice. The house is big and beautiful, location also easy to find. Highly recommend!

  • This was a fantastic place to stay for accommodation! The house was very spacious and our rooms were very comfortable! The hosts were brilliant and did everything they could for us! It felt very homely and I do recommend this place! Easy access to the city also, only a 10 minute drive to the station and then a train straight to downtown Chicago. Thanks again for everything and best wishes

5 bdrm home accessible to Chicago. Perfect for extended stay at $103 daily rate per MONTHLY booking; saving you $800 from already low price of $130/daily. Unbelievable deal! Relax & unwind w/privacy and luxury. Please see photos.
You will not find an entire home offering this much space and beauty for these prices!! Simply put, this is incomparable to anything offered at my rates. ($103 daily rate does not include price for extra price for over 4 guests or cleaning fee). Sprawled out private oasis close enough to the city for accessible fun but far enough for privacy. This listing is unique because it can accommodate a large family or traveling group. Ideal for a group traveling to Chicago for popular events such as marathons, concerts, Taste Of Chicago, etc. Check out my other listing for single room rental options also.

  • Jason is such a wonderful host and the best host one can wish for. I was in town for my wedding and his house was so roomy and spacious. We had a lot of fun and were very comfortable next time we are in south holland we are staying there. Jason was very accomodating and very kind.

    cody2016-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This house was the perfect option for our family! We were all coming from different parts of the country for a wedding so it was nice to all be together in a large house instead of separate hotel rooms. Plus there was plenty of space for the kids to run around. It's not too far from Chicago, and is close to plenty of shopping centers and grocery stores. Jason is a great host and was always available to answer our questions. We were lucky to find this place and had a really great time. We were however slightly disappointed that we needed to vacuum the floors and scrub the bathroom clean before settling in. All in all it was a lovely stay and we would definitely recommend booking with Jason!

    Jamie2015-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jason was an excellent host. We planned the stay for the time period of month as we were in the area for work. There was a group of 5 of us in which Jason made his entire home available for use to stay. The first night we stayed, Jason was there to show us around the house and inform us where everything was located. The house was extremely clean and welcoming and would most certainly recommend it to anyone in the area.

    Sean2015-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • This home has loads of space for a larger group with ample parking. Loved the multiple tables provided for board/card games. The home is in need of a complete cleaning. We were a bit disappointed with the dirty carpets, food stuffs left in refrigerator and overall maintenance of the property. Caution on the dangerously hot water temperature. It worked for a group of guys, however, I'm fairly certain the ladies would have issues. Great potential but in need of work.

My place is close to Easy access to Chicago expressway system. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. We are 18 miles from down town Chicago. 45 minuets by commuter train, and 2 miles from train station by bus. We are 1 hour from Ohare airport by auto, and 1/2 hour from Midway. Where possible we will allow early check in for guests flying into Ohare or Midway
The apartment is stand alone with a digital door lock so guests may arrive when it is convenient for them. If you let us know you will be late we will leave some light on.
  • Staying at this place was such a good deal. There's no way you're going to get a cheaper equivalent place in the Chicago area. Suited our needs perfectly. I would recommend bringing a car because there's a little bit of a commute downtown and Chicago's peripheral public transit is always underwhelming. Overall great place close to a lot of stores and food in case you need something during your stay.

    Jesse2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Overall this was a great place to stay. The location is extremely convenient - near restaurants and the highway. We traveled through the night and were able to use the keypad entry when we finally arrived around 5 or 6am. There was food in the fridge that we used to make breakfast and a Keurig as well. The bathroom looked a bit dated, but everything was well maintained. There were also detailed instructions for the hot water, a floor plan, and instructions for the WiFi. It was a great value and the hosts were very responsive, though we didn't have a chance to meet them due to the time we arrived and the activities we had planned.

    Michelle2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Right behind a Wendy's and they like to keep some goodies in the fridge so you won't go hungry.

    Bryton2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at Dennis'place before. This time the wifi was working, but it's limited to one hour. That's not a big deal on a day where we arrived late and left early, but it would matter to me otherwise. My partner didn't like the shower because he couldn't get the hot water to work consistently. That's not a deal breaker to me, but it is to him, so we'll be finding another place to stay. The plusses of this place are privacy, space, and some food in the fridge for breakfast. Also, Dennis is a nice man and a responsive host. I think this place would be fine for some who don't mind these issues. If I was staying alone, I might return prepared to not really have WiFi access except via my phone.

    Stephnnie2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very accurate description and pictures, the place was a little bigger than I expected.

    Natalie2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great for the money and they were able to accommodate us with a last minute trip for a family funeral.

    Nikki2017-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The space is really big. Could use some updates but I felt safe and Dennis and Cassandra were amazing. It was about 25 mind to the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN. The shower was a bit tricky but other than that a comfy stay

You'll have your privacy in your own room. The bathroom is shared. You'll have access to wifi, fridge, use of kitchen, stove, and microwave. • I stayed at Tina's home for one week. The house is 45 minutes away from Chicago downtown. It's really easy to go there. You have to take a bus and the metra (there is only one train by hour ! So look at the schedule if you don't want to wait too long ahha). It's a residential area but stores are very close : a lot of fast foods (Wendy's, Burger King, etc.), a Walgreens, a liquor store, a laundry... Tina is super cool and very funny ! I enjoyed my stay there !

    Matthias2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tina was an excellent host. Place was clean, she provided snacks and food and was very flexible on check in/out times which was very important for me. Would definitely recommend to travellers who are mostly going to downtown chicago as the metra is extremely fast and direct.

Homewood is a small town (considered a village) but is known for having one of the best school districts in the south suburbs of Chicago. It's a pretty even mix between blue collar and white collar people with a diverse mixture of backgrounds, making for a vibrant community. Along the east side, there's a bustling commercial business corridor along Halsted St with tons of big box stores and restaurants. It's right off of I294 and I94. People sometimes drive 45 mins to come here for Krispy Kreme doughnuts! On the west side, there's historic downtown Homewood with its modern old-world charm. Here you'll find local shops, fairs and festivals, access to the Metra station, Ravisloe Country Club, and all the municipal buildings for the village. To get to downtown Chicago in a car, you'll take the I294 North to get to I94, then take I94 all the way up to Lake Shore Drive. It's about a 35 mins drive without traffic.
  • Brandon was a great host! He was quick and responsive to all our needs. His unit is close enough to the city that it's only a short drive to get to most areas you'd want to visit, but far enough out that you can find some quiet if you need it. Would recommend.

  • The unit was very clean and comfortable. A lot of space, it's enough for 5 guests to stay. I also liked the interior design here. All the doors are electronic, which was super convenient and safe. I was able to check in later without worrying about finding keys in a lock box. Brandon is a very responsible host. I didn't need to meet him, but he instantly responded to any message I sent, and he said he could show up if we had any problem. I had a wonderful time on my trip and would definitely stay here again next time I'm visiting Chicago!

  • Beautifully located, nice views and great host! Brandon was very approachable, gave a thorough tour of apartment and had treats waiting for us! A bottle of wine and candy. I liked his attentiveness. He checked in some time during our week stay to see if when were enjoying our stay. I really appreciated that. Thanks so much for hosting us!

  • Brandon was very kind and kept in touch! was a bit noisey and you could hear people in the upstairs apartment. Would’ve been bothersome for a long stay. Overall great place to stay! Comfortable, very clean, fun host and a great deal! Thank you!

  • The apartment was perfect for our needs— I was with my two kids, 13 and 10, and there was as plenty of space for us. The apartment is clean, fresh, and has all the amenities you need, and it’s on a nice quiet street. It’s also close to the center of town of Homewood, with restaurants and shops, and not too far from a train into the city as well. Brandon was terrific- responded quickly to any questions I had and was always friendly and gracious.

  • Brandon was a great host! He communicated with me before our check in, gave us specific info we needed to know. He made our stay easy and affordable! The apartment was very clean and homey with plenty of space.

  • My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend to celebrste his birthday. The space was incredible- the pictures definitely don't do it justice. Isabel and her husband were very welcoming, they gave us a quick run down on the apartment and let us be, but if needed they were very accessible. The space was clean and perfect for the two of us! It was close to the Hammond shore line train station, which made it very easy and stress-free to get to Chicago and back. It was close to 3Floyds Brewery (the main reason we chose to stay there!) along with many other local and nationally-recognized breweries. It was also a short trip to a few nature preserves, and maybe a 45min drove to Waterfall Glenn. It was nice to see the urban and nature sides of Chicago, and we couldn't have asked for more from Isabel! Would definitely stay again.

    Sarah2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Isabel's house while checking my grandson in at U of Chicago. The location was about 25 min from the school and an easy drive. The home is in a quiet neighborhood with easy parking. The house was comfortable and had everything I needed. It was very clean. Isabel was very kind and easy to communicate with. I would stay there again.

  • Very nice place, super clean, and very quiet. We found the apartment quite comfortable, with plenty of room for us two. Isabel is very nice and leaves you to yourself, but lives right across the hallway if you need anything, and has obviously put a lot of work and thought into making the apartment comfortable for guests. There are little decorations that help make the apartment feel inviting without being overwhelming, and everything is in very nice condition and well maintained. The kitchen has basic cooking pans, dishes, and utensils, just be sure to bring your own cooking ingredients/spices etc. Wifi is very fast and no coverage problems. Street parking was no problem, even when we came back late. Overall would certainly recommend for anyone looking to stay in south Chicagoland/Gary area

    Maryanne2017-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Isabel's place was spacious. It was a 1 bedroom that was great for 2. There were additional mattresses if needed for another guest, and she also provided bathroom accessories. Once her place was confirmed Isabel sent me a text with all the information we needed. The communications with her was great. She greeted us the first day and even gave my daughter a small gift. Our stay was for a month and she once brought over some fresh vegetables for us. About 4 days before we left we had a unwanted rodent. We advised Isabel and she immediately took actions to correct the problem.

  • Cozy place. Slept 7 adults and 2 babies. House needs updates as its an old house but peaceful location. Food joints were only 5 minutes out. Good value for money. Do not expect a luxurious stay. Joao was really helpful in giving us a little extra time for checkout with the babies. Provided us enough coffee for 3 days ! That was awesome.

    Allison2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for accomodation that it is 25 minutes from downtown do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. The title is misleading. I booked for two nights but only stayed for one. I preferably would have not stayed for either to be eligible to reclaim my service fees but this was not an option at the odd hours of the night. I have no complaints about the room. Samuel has a homely, well furnished, kept and clean place. If I did have one critique it would be the lack of black out curtains and that you can hear downstairs coming in and out of the house. I slept with ear plugs. I suggest that you do the same. You are sleeping on a hard mattress bed and not on a couch. It took over an hour and a half to get from downtown to Samuel's. The station is not 7 minutes from the house as Samuel suggested. A (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps search shows it as 14 minutes. Also expect to pay for a different ticket ($6.50 either way) as CTA does not service the outer Southern suburbs. These trains run infrequently. I have been waiting for over an hour at the Hazel Crest station for an in bound train to arrive on a Saturday. You are staying in suburbia. There are no tourist sights and I could not find a cafe nearby to grab a bite. Samuel does not stay in the house and I was not able to voice this in person with him. Though he is offsite it was fairly straightforward to get into the house and he left very clear instructions. In short I would not recommend that you stay here if you are planning on staying for the short term and do not have access to a car. If you have access to a car and are looking for a quiet night in go for it. Though if I had my time again I would choose to spend a little more and stay in a nicer area such as Roger's Park or Evanston.

  • Our hosts were very gracious, inviting, and quite friendly.  Their two-story home was lovely and tastefully decorated.  The amenities provided made our stay even more special and comfortable.  Far more relaxing than staying in any hotel/motel.  Our only wish was that it had been warm enough to enjoy the outdoor patio area which even included a barbecue grill!  Loved every minute of our stay and would definitely recommend this Airbnb to anyone staying in the Chicago area.

The apartment has Direct access from the driveway into it, through an independent side entrance. The main room is very large with refrigerator, microwave and comfortable sofa. Throughout my stay, Karen made sure to check on me and answer any questions I had. And not having to worry about what to do for breakfast every day was definitely a plus!

  • Karen was a great host. She is a very activate young lady who made me feel welcome the moment I entered her home. Perhaps most important of all for me was she gave me my space when needed. I would definitely stay with Karen again, when I come back to the area.

  • Karen Sophie was a pleasure to talk to. My friend and I stayed up talking with her over wine. If you like cats, hers were very friendly. Large shower, characteristic home, definitely a pleasurable stay.

  • What a wonderful experience! Karen is so thoughtful and went out of her way to make my stay memorable. She has a delightful home, with 3 adorable cats. Getting to know Karen was probably the best part of my experience. She also had yummy snacks and provided breakfast too! As a first time visitor to Chicago I appreciated her suggestions for places to go. I would definitely stay with Karen again and will check out her other rental in Chicago as well.

  • My friend and I had a wonderful experience. Karen was the best host we could ever ask for. She was always there to help, offering to show us different places to eat and check out downtown. The commuter train was nearby and very useful as well. The neighborhood was very nice. Karen made our stay very comfortable and relaxing. If was like staying with family!

  • Karen hosted my friend and I for three days. We stayed at her house which was beautiful and also only half an hour from downtown. She was incredibly hospitable and was even willing to drive out and pick us up from the train station when we arrived. Every morning we were there she laid out breakfast for us and the morning we left she even made us a snack bag for our trip back home. Karen was really friendly and great to talk to and really made the trip even more memorable.

  • Karen was a wonderful host and immediately welcomed my wife and I into her beautiful home before our flight out of O'hare the next morning. She is very accommodating - taking the time to give us directions and even making breakfast in the morning! We also very much enjoyed chatting with her about her travels. Absolutely would recommend!

This small house is exactly what they present in the info. It was perfect for low cost Chicago weekend, near I94 for good access to downtown.
