Springfield Cottage lies at the heart of this unspoiled Cotswold valley, made famous by Laurie Lee's novel Cider with Rosie. The walks are stunning and the wildlife extraordinary. There are five Nature Reserves within a two mile radius. It is within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Cottage is of stone construction built mainly in the 18th Century. The views and surrounding countryside are beautiful.
The accommodation offers a choice of two bedrooms, one with a 4' 6" size double bed and the other with two single beds. When you book please state which room you would like. The room with the double bed is quite small (see photo), so if you book this one you can spread out into the other bedroom if you wish. A maximum of two visitors stay in the house at any one time. There's a new private bathroom with shower, loo and basin, and a private bar kitchen for DIY breakfast. Fridge, toaster, kettle, egg boiler, bread, cereals, fruit etc are supplied. There are no cooking facilities. Part of the cottage dates back to the 17th century, so stairs are quite steep and narrow. There is a patio with table and chairs. A radio is provided. You may use the garden - the views are wonderful.
Elcombe has a population of 26. It is very rural, although the thriving town of Stroud is only about two miles away. The photo with the horses was taken from the front garden. If you like the immediate area but I am booked up for the period you want - you could try ringing my neighbour at Furners Farm.
  • Richard is a great host. His place is very clean and the view is absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was great and we used to have it in his beautiful balcony. The best thing was his company and hospitality that made our experience exceptional. I definitely recommend his place for a short city break in beautiful quite.

  • Richard is an interesting, informative, amenable and engaging host. We spent a lovely couple of days in his iimmaculate 17th century house located in the green heart of the English countryside. The only sound to break the soothing silence of the surroundings was the chattering of the birds. It was the perfect antidote to the spin of modern life. My only regret is that we did not stay longer!

    Brian2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely enjoyed the stay at Richard's unique home. Richard is a very attentive, friendly and helpful host. HIs house is extraordinary and the way the bedromms are presented is very charming. By the way; the double bed is one of the most comfortable ones we ever had at an Airbnb or B&B. The location is unique, very isolated - so you will find your peace and quiet - but at the same time not far away from very interesting sights and many lovery walks. If you have a car the place is perfect to experience the beauty of the Cotswolds. 100 % recommendation for the place and the host!

  • Richard is an exemplary, friendly, helpful yet descreet host. He took care of everything perfectly from my first enquiry to my departure. The house is charming and quirky with bags of character and an idyllic setting. The weather was perfect during my visit so I was able to really appreciate the beauty of the countryside all around and yet Stroud and other nearby towns and villages are very close by and easily accessed. I wasn't able to take full advantage of such easy access to some great walks from the doorstep so will look forward to a return visit some time soon to explore the area further on foot.

  • 5 stars seem too few for the wonderful stay that we have just returned from. Richard was a lovely host; nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The room was lovely! Nicely kept and beautifully decorated, complete with our own bathroom and kitchen. We had access to wifi and our own entrance/exit. He provided us with maps of the area and local walks, also giving us pamphlets on activities we can do. He was welcoming before we even arrived, and it was an absolute delight to be in his company. 10/10 for hospitality, generosity and location; with it being very easy to begin the Laurie Lee walk from outside the front door. My partner and I are very sad to leave.

    Matthew2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • What an idylic place to stay - we had four nights and thoroughly enjoyed the countryside and the comfortable beds. Richard kindly looked after us very well and we would definitely like to go back again.

    Theresa2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Richard's place, it was really the highlight of our trip through England! Richard is a very friendly, helpful host and he has good places to recommend too. The environment is amazing and the house is too. We highly recommend to stay with Richard!

    Cynthia2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I recently stayed here for 3 nights while we explored the Cotswolds. We had our own kitchenette and bathroom and were able to come and go from a seperate entrance. The rural setting is beautiful and there are plenty of local walks to explore. I would recommend Richard's gorgeous cottage and his wonderful hospitality for anyone wanting the real English experience.

  • We had a lovely stay at The Old Hunting Lodge. The host Catherine was a delight, so friendly and welcoming and the family history of the building was so interesting. The photos really don't do the place justice, it is such a quirky place and so tranquil and relaxing. The lodge is in walking distance to lots of great villages and pubs but if you don't want to go far you can relax on the sun loungers and have a bbq. Catherine provided all bbq equipment for us which was a nice touch. Due to the tranquil location, please check with Catherine before arrival on how to get to the lodge as it was a bit hard to find (but what do you expect for such a rural location?). Would highly recommend a visit to this lovely part of the world and lovely lodge. Thanks again Catherine.

    The Old Hunting Lodge

As featured on Channel 4's 'Hidden Villages of the Cotswolds' and convenient stop on the Wysis Way for walkers, we offer a rural location surrounded by fields, our own meadow and woodland. The Woolpack, as immortalised in Laurie Lee's 'Cider with Rosie', is only a 10 minute walk away.
Incredibly picturesque setting in this Cotswold valley made famous by that lovable (and very sadly missed) rogue, Laurie Lee, in his novel 'Cider with Rosie'. Steanbridge, a hamlet nestled within the Slad Valley, is a very special place at all times of the year. Our neighbours train racehorses, which are spectacular to see coming down the lane en masse for their daily exercise. We would be pleased to advise on the numerous walks starting and finishing from our home including the fairly-recent Laurie Lee route (people always get lost outside our front garden!). We offer a light and airy, recently renovated top floor of our mill (with direct access). We love it for its character and history as well as the peacefulness and nature around from our doorstep. The 17th century former woollen mill provides a spacious living area for use of guests with two doubles, or one double and two singles, with a double sofa bed and use of a kitchen. Guests are also welcome to explore our garden, including the meadow with the Slad brook running through it, and our woodland. We have a BBQ and fire pit for guests to use also if they so wish. Whilst we both work full time, we are never too far away and try to be available to assist with guests' needs. Parking outside Upper Steanbridge Mill is for 2 cars and guests are welcome to use both. We also have parking on gravel by our stream the other side of the road for further vehicles. Our friends at Wonky's Wheels in Stroud will look after you if you need a taxi anywhere as bus routes are reliable but buses run infrequently. Walking into Stroud is a 40 minute stroll. Mobile phone reception at Upper Steanbridge Mill is patchy, so please let us know if you would like to book a taxi etc. and we would be pleased to help. We live in a remote country setting with hardly any light pollution. The pub however (The Woolpack) is only 10 minutes away on foot and thankfully the walk is downhill on the way back. We can lend a torch! Stroud is 2 miles away, (award-winning Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings) Nailsworth 6 miles, Cheltenham 11 miles, Gloucester 10 miles, Cirencester 10 miles, Bath 33 miles and Bristol 30 miles. Bristol Airport is an hour's drive; London Heathrow 1h20mins; Birmingham Airport 1h 30mins. Paddington to Stroud is 1h 30mins by train and a 5 minute taxi ride thereafter. The British designer Jasper Conran once likened Stroud to ‘the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds’ and is a great base to explore the undiscovered south Cotswolds countryside and the Five Golden Valleys. The town of Stroud is the capital of the south western Cotswolds and located at the divergence of the five Golden Valleys, so named after the monetary wealth created in the processing of wool from the plentiful supply of water power. Five populated valleys converge at Stroud, ten miles southwest of Cheltenham, creating a bustle of hills. The bustle is not a new phenomenon. During the heyday of the wool trade the river Frome powered 150 mills, turning Stroud into the centre of the local cloth industry. Even now, Stroud is very much a working town, and one which doesn't need its heritage in order to survive. While some of the old mills have been converted into flats, others contain factories, but only two continue to make cloth - no longer the so-called Stroudwater Scarlet used for military uniforms, but high-quality felt for tennis balls and snooker tables. The Slad valley, again, was a centre of clothmaking until the 19th century when the mills ceased production. The grey-stone village of Slad is scattered along the south-east slope of the narrow valley and has been immortalised by the poet and author Laurie Lee. We recommend our friends at Wonky's Wheels in Stroud for all taxi needs to and from Upper Steanbridge Mill. The guys there know us well for our own work-related and personal needs! Our local, The Woolpack, gets very busy at weekends. To avoid disappointment, we would be pleased to book you a table there in advance (Harry, the landlord, is a formidable host but even he cannot work miracles when there are no covers available!).
Rural Gloucestershire at its finest. Lesser known part of the Cotswolds (more industrial in parts but equally as verdant) with steep-sided valleys and a character of its own.
  • We loved the atmosphere and quiet of the accommodation. Well equipped and accurately described. Was worth the venturing down narrow lanes to get there. If given the chance we would return and recommend.

  • Amazing location, Jonathan the host was more than welcoming, and the apartment actually looks better in the flesh than it does in the photos! One big point to note, it's actually a self contained 2 double bedroom apartment with what's essentially a private entrance. Lovely walks and the local pub (woolpack) is fantastic too.

  • We had a great weekend here - the house is in a beautiful spot, a 10-minute walk from the pub in Slad. Jonathan made us very welcome and had provided thoughtful extras to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The house is very tastefully decorated and comfortable and the countryside is great walking country.

    Jo2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathan and his family made us feel very welcome in his beautiful home. He helpfully emailed us very detailed directions on how to reach the Mill, met us on arrival and also kindly stocked the fridge with milk etc The house is lovely and tastefully decorated, with all the amenities you need (washer/dryer for after the long country walks!), a cosy fire and the beds are extremely comfortable. The countryside around Slad is beautiful and there are good walks from right outside the front door, and a couple of great pubs nearby too. I would recommend staying here for anyone looking for a few quiet days to enjoy the nature, and our 5-year old loved the freedom of running around the woods and fields :) Great hosts, great place to stay.

  • Beautiful and charming accommodation in the Cotswolds. Stunning views of the countryside and great athmosphere, with picturesque staircase and bedrooms. Right in the centre of countryside, great for walking in stunning scenery. The hosts made us feel very welcome with lots of walks suggestions, pub booking and only-locals know information. Highly recommended for a true Cotswolds experience! Would definitely go again.

  • Jonathan and his family were very welcoming and really made us feel at home. The apartment is in a beautiful location, perfect for a peaceful retreat and nice walks. The apartment itself was very atmospheric and nicely furnished and Jonathan was kind enough to provide lots of information on local walks and some staple foods. We would thoroughly recommend staying here! Thank you to Jonathan and family for such an enjoyable stay.

  • We had a great weekend in this lovely, comfortable, self-contained accommodation. The beds and pillows were inviting and comfortable, our hosts provided us with plenty of welcoming things like bread, milk and tea, and gave us recommendations for places nearby to eat and drink. The location is gorgeous and so peaceful.

The Chairman's Retreat is a beautifully presented house nestled below Frith Wood in Laurie Lee's stunning Slad Valley. Spacious and bright accommodation with a private terraced garden backing on to a paddock and woodland. Only a short walk to the famous Woolpack pub, a quick drive to Stroud's Farmers' Market and easy access to Cheltenham, Bath, Cirencester, Gloucester and the rest of the scenic Cotswolds, the house offers the perfect base for exploring. Great for families or groups of friends.
The Chairman's Retreat is a light and airy house with all the comforts of home. It is totally self contained with a private garden and forms the rear half of our home. It's so private you probably won't see us during your stay but if you do need help we are generally just next door. The House is in the middle of the Slad Valley, immortalised in Laurie Lee's beautiful book Cider with Rosie. It has great views across the valley from the garden and views up to Frith Wood from the house. It's a really peaceful retreat in a spot that is magical at all times of the year. We don't have many street lights here so the nights are dark and the stars are bright. Pretty much the only noises you will hear at night are foxes, badgers, owls and the wind in the trees. The house is really comfortable, with a mix of antique and contemporary furniture. The entrance hall has lots of space for coats and muddy boots, a loo and a laundry room with separate washer and dryer. The house is upside down with bedrooms mainly on the lower floor and the sitting room, dining room and kitchen upstairs. Through the entrance hall is a small study area; you'll get good wifi throughout the house but if you need some desk space you'll find it here. Up half a flight of stairs to the master bedroom, with its own en suite shower room and patio doors onto your own private terrace with a table and chairs for morning coffee or evening drinks. This room is easily big enough for a travel cot or child's bed. Round the corner and down some stairs to a double bedroom and twin bedroom with a shared bathroom, which has a bath and shower. Then upstairs to the open plan dining room and sitting room. The dining room has a table for eight; great for lazy dinners. The sitting room is part of the same space but up a flight of stairs. Complete with squashy leather sofas, a wood burner (your first load of logs will be waiting for you), a smart TV, toys, games, books and a DVD collection. There's lots to do and space to relax. The kitchen has a big fridge, separate freezer and large range cooker. Lots of kitchen kit is available and if you need anything else we are just next door and happy to help. There is also a breakfast table and high chair for smaller guests. The fourth bedroom is off the sitting room and down a little corridor and is a double with windows facing Frith Wood. It's next to a bathroom and while not en suite, it's pretty much your own. The bathroom is a tribute to the 80's and as you would expect, has its very own jacuzzi bath. Outside there is a terrace with seating and a BBQ and two lawn areas, one of which is fenced to give some play space for younger guests. There is also a little herb garden, so feel free to help yourselves. You are welcome to use the paddock which is great for romping and frisbee but a bit too sloped for football. Take care with the electric fence around the chickens and do feel free to ask us about eggs. There is great walking to be found all around the valley. You can walk from the Chairman's Retreat straight up into Frith Wood; down the valley will bring you to Tom George's racing stables and through the woods and over the hill will take you to Painswick, the so called Queen of The Cotswolds, with its unusual churchyard, lovely pub The Falcon and surprising Olivas Deli, St Michaels restaurant and a fine coffee shop. Painswick as about a 45 minute walk away and if you fancy a night out, it's a pleasant (if hilly) stroll home. Closer to home is the Woolpack pub. Serving great food, local Uley Brewery and Stroud Brewery ales, it's cosy and popular and famed as an old haunt of Laurie Lee. If you want to be sure of a table it's worthwhile booking or letting us know and we will book for you. Slad is only a few minutes from Stroud by car. Trains from Paddington are direct and take around an hour and forty minutes. There is parking for two cars; if you need more space let us know and we can arrange it. If you are coming from further afield, Heathrow is 1:45 hours away, Birmingham airport 1:20 hours and Bristol 1:20 hours away. Stroud has a great Farmers' market on Saturday mornings - excellent local produce and yummy things for lunch. Our favourites are the Falafel wraps and the Tartiflet and if you can fit anything else in Pippins Doughnuts. Further afield Cheltenham and Gloucester are no more than half an hour by car with good shopping, the race course and The Everyman theatre. Gloucester Cathedral is amazing and hosts some great exhibitions. If you are around in the summer, it's also worth checking out Gifford's Circus, a small but perfectly formed avant guarde collection of craziness, popular with adults and children alike. It tours the Cotswolds in the summer and is really worth a visit. An hour in the car will take you to either Bath or Bristol. Lots of history with the Roman Spa in Bath and HMS Great Britain in Bristol docks. We have a 3 nights minimum stay period. There will always be logs and kindling available to light a fire on your first evening. We can supply further logs for £10 a barrow load; if you need some more, please ask us in advance or on arrival. The Chairman's Retreat - your perfect holiday retreat to explore the Cotswolds.
  • A beautiful place to stay - everything perfectly clean and luxurious. The children loved feeding the chickens and we loved the Woolpack! Chris and his family could not have done more to make us feel welcome.

  • Our minds were blown as soon as we arrived at The Chairmans Retreat. All of our expectations had been blown out of the water. Everything about this stunning house is pure perfection. The hospitality that we were shown was more than could have been asked for. It was the small touches that made us feel so very welcome. We can't wait to stay again! Chris & The Chairmans Retreat will be our go to place whenever we are in the area and also anytime that we fancy a weekend away in the Cotswolds. There is a lovely little pub within walking distance but in all honesty when you're staying somewhere so beautiful there's no where else you'd rather be. We can't wait to see you again soon! Thank you so much for absolutely everything! You made the week so much more enjoyable!

    Toni2017-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • The photos barely do this beautiful cottage justice. Everything is high end and stunning. Thoughtful touches such as home made cake and Prosecco on arrival were a lovely surprise. The local pub is just a few minutes walk and is welcoming and friendly and serves great food.

    Sam2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don't do the house justice! It's a great space, and had more than enough room for our group of 8, with a big front room and lovely garden, perfect for BBQs. We were welcomed with a thoughtful selection of food and drink such as eggs, bread and home-made cake. Chris offered helpful suggestions for walks and meals - The Woolpack pub is great for food, and the farmer's market is a lovely day out. We enjoyed a really relaxing, comfortable stay, and would definitely recommend.

    Charlie2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the country location of this house. It is newly renovated and the kitchen well outfitted for cooking and barbecuing. There was a lovely welcome gift on the kitchen counter! We enjoyed following the instructions for a hike through the woods to a neighboring village. The beds were comfortable, there are three bathrooms in the house. We felt we lucked out in our choice of an airbnb house !

    Lorraine2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • An extremely clean and well-appointed home in a beautiful setting, with all in house amenities, and a lovely garden and paddock setting.

    Sam2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Chairman's Retreat is a fantastic little place, fitted out to a high standard with everything you could need for a great weekend away. Chris was a very helpful host and more than happy to offer his guidance in any way he can, pointing out routes and offering local area recommendations.

    Simon2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed a family weekend at The Chairman's Retreat. The house and location far exceeded our expectations. Chris and Suzanne have not spared any detail in the quality and comfort of the accommodation and we felt really at home from the start, having been warmly welcomed by the hosts. We visited the farmers market in Stroud on Saturday (about 2 miles from the cottage so walkable although along a busy road.) There are lots of walks from the house and Chris has put together a very good route description of a walk through the woods that run along the back of the property to Painswick, well worth doing. Saying all that the peace and tranquillity, not to mention the stunning views, of the locations entice you to just relax in the lovely garden. We would certainly recommend it as the perfect retreat!

Tranquil environment, 20 minutes walk from the town centre. As Stroud is fairly hilly, this is mainly uphill, for those who are daunted by such a prospect. There are also lovely walks just across the way and further afield. Beautiful views. And the walk back into town is downhill all the way.. There are various good walks locally in the Cotswolds. Beautiful views of the local environment from the garden out front Non-smoking, Alcohol free. This is a real haven and retreat from a busy world
The environment is quiet and attractive. It is a small apartment, but spacious. It is particularly enjoyed by people who are looking for a retreat and some peace after a busy day. Breakfast is organic, special requests considered.
There is a wonderful view towards the cemetery and The Heavens, beautiful sunsets and lovely walks can be taken there. There are also a few gardens one can enjoy while here.
  • I was truly blessed finding Sara-Lea's place the very last minute. She is a wonderful, kind and warm hearted lovely woman. A true blessing after a long journey! She made me a delicious cup of fresh chai in the evening and a great latte in the morning:-) Breakfast was tasty too; organic muesli with yoghurt and lovely toast. I could really recommend staying with her. The room is cosy and comfi btw:-) She even invited me to join her to a very inspiring presentation next morning which had my interest as well. All in all.. Wonderful!

Weavers Cottage is a 17 century weavers cottage in one of the oldest streets in beautiful Cotswold gem Painswick. It has a pretty, sunny terrace & roof garden with seating for dining and a barbecue. Situated on the Cotswold Way - a walker's paradise.
Weavers Cottage is a 17 century old weavers cottage from the days when Painswick was a centre for wool and spinning and weaving - as many of the properties in the Stroud area were. It has an old ingle nook fireplace and large beamed bedroom and pretty garden terrace and roof terrace to eat on. It is ideal for two but there is an extra small room with adult sized beds which could accommodate children but the roof terrace would be unsuitable for very young children.
Painswick is called the Queen of the Cotswolds because of its prettiness. We are on the Cotswold Way and the walking here is glorious. we are ten miles from Cheltenham with is shops and race track, five miles from Gloucester with its rugger ground and two and a half miles from Stroud with its local food market and historic buildings. Painswick is often used as a filming location because of its picturesque buildings. Weavers cottage is next to the arts centre and gallery with resident artist studios. Ancient Roman remains are also in nearby Cirencester.
  • Well appointed comfortable cottage with all mod cons. It is full of character and the literature on the local area is useful and informative. We would like to explore more of the local area and would certainly book this cottage again. The roof terrace and garden were so lovely and although the weather was mixed we still managed morning coffee and evening drinks up there.

    helen2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our stay in Painswick. Ellen gave us very clear instructions to find the place and left us lots of basics for breakfast etc as long as some tips about the local area which we were very grateful for. The cottage was clean and very quaint and acted as a perfect, reasonably priced base for our weekend. Thank you very much!

  • The cottage is lovely! It's not huge, but fit four of us comfortably. It has everything you need, and is extremely well-situated near the Painswick pubs and walking paths. The heat can be spotty but the fireplace is great. Wifi is suitable. Would definitely recommend Ellen's place for a weekend getaway!

We have been in Slad for 30 years - it is such a beautiful place, and we are very happy to welcome visitors.
Our room is a good size, light, with lovely views of the Slad Valley and is on the first floor. There is a comfortable double bed, (plus child's bed if required). On the ground floor is a newly refurbished shower/w.c. I am happy to provide breakfast - tea, coffee, juice and cereal/toast etc for a modest charge, and for guests to share our kitchen (by prior arrangement). Slad is a small village in the Cotswolds, two miles north of Stroud, set in a beautiful valley (as written about by Laurie Lee in Cider with Rosie - we are just across the road from Laurie's childhood home. There are fantastic walks from our front door, including the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way (a 5 mile trail with poetry posts) , and The Woolpack pub is just down the road which serves very good food. Stroud has a wonderful farmers’ market and thriving vintage shops. Painswick (2 miles) is also worth a visit, and further afield are Gloucester (10 miles) and Cheltenham (12 miles) – for shops and horse racing. The various Cotswold villages are also within easy reach.
Slad is famous for its association with Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee. That aside, it is a lovely place to visit in its own right, a stunning valley to explore and easy to get away from it all in beautiful scenery.
  • This was our second stay with Cathy and Robin and unfortunately it was only for one night - we would've loved to have stayed longer. As with our first visit, we were immediately made to feel welcome. Cathy and Robin are friendly, helpful hosts and their home is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. We also fitted in a visit to The Woolpack where we enjoyed a lovely meal and a couple of pints of Uley ale. We can't wait to make our next visit to Slad...

  • Fantastic host, very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed two night stay here. Comfy bed and beautiful scenery.

    Amin2016-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Both Cathy and Robin are very nice people, they gave me clear directions how to find their house which by the way has some very nice views over the valley.

  • Another relaxing and enjoyable stay in scenic Slad. Cathy and Robin are friendly and hospitable hosts who always make us feel welcome. This was our fourth visit and we're already looking forward to the next one...

    Max2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly and welcoming hosts Cathy and Robin provided a comfortable room with ample privacy and delightful views of the surrounding countryside. Thanks to their kind hospitality, I would happily recommend a stay here in Slad for anyone exploring Gloucestershire.

    Josh2015-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy & Robin were excellent hosts, friendly without being intrusive. My husband was pleased to be offered an early morning cup of tea. The bedroom is very near the road so there is some traffic noise, however it isn't a busy road. Lovely views from the house.

    Audrey2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy and Robin made us feel extremely welcome in their home and we enjoyed a very comfortable and pleasant stay in the beautiful Slad Valley. We ate at the Woolpack which we would definitely recommend. The farmers' market in Stroud on Saturday morning was also worth a visit.

    Meriel2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy was really welcoming and friendly. She recommended us a place to eat when we arrived on sunday night in a beautiful nearby village. She made us coffee in the morning and cereal, toast with her home made marmalade. Her home is very peaceful in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds. the neighbouring villages are really pretty too and we hiked to a few of them.

Bridge Barn sits in some of the Cotswolds' most attractive countryside. Perhaps best known for its association with Laurie Lee and Cider with Rosie, the region is exceptionally popular with walkers which isn't surprising given the location. Slad is gorgeous and 'ultra Cotswolds', packed full of traditional buildings, winding lanes and beautiful views. The Woolpack pub is outstanding and exceptionally friendly, and famed as much for its current warm welcome as it is for the place Laurie Lee regularly attended! The nearest 'town' (a different one) is Painswick a delightful market town with a wide selection of shops and places to stop and relax (think coffee shops). It too has some gorgeous architecture - the church is particularly eye catching, and there are some lovely pubs to choose from too. For a wider selection of shops Stroud is about 3 miles away where you will find a Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Tesco's. On every Saturday there is a Farmer's Market in Stroud - one which is widely regarded as the best in the Cotswolds, with plenty of organic produce, food, cheeses and much more. There is also a flee market on every Friday mornings selling plenty of bric-a-brac. Cheltenham and Gloucester are nearby too. Cheltenham is about 13 miles away and has a wide selection of shops to choose from plus regular festivals that Cheltenham is well known for. This is a location that is very much 'deep in the Cotswolds', reachable either from the M40 or better still via the M4. Once you pull off the motorway, within minutes you are travelling through proper countryside and about to enjoy some of the finest that the Cotswolds has to offer. Heartily recommended

Explore the Cotswolds from this beautifully renovated home, formerly three farm workers' cottages. Middle Lypiatt is in the heart of 'Cider with Rosie' country and part of England’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The bedroom and en-suite bathroom are large with views across the fields. Guests have their own drawing / breakfast room. Excellent local pubs are within walking distance. Cheltenham and Cirencester are both 25 minutes away.
The guest accommodation is a newly refurbished private wing of this beautiful family home, and comprises a quintessentially English cottage drawing / breakfast room, a spacious double bedroom with a King-size bed, and a brand new en-suite bathroom (with bath and overhead power shower). For a family stay, an inflatable mattress and camp bed are available on request. We have ponies and dogs and an abundance of wildlife on our doorstep. The views from the garden over the valley are just stunning, a table at the edge of the garden makes a delightful spot for a summer's evening.
Middle Lypiatt is a rural hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside although only a couple of miles from Stroud and walking distance from many pubs. The cottage is perched on the edge of Lypiatt Ridge, with far reaching views over the Toadsmoor Valley, which runs down to the Golden Valley between Cirencester and Stroud, so named by Queen Victoria when she took a train through the area. The surrounding area boasts several historic homes. Dick Whittington, the celebrated Lord Mayor of London bought nearby Lypiatt Park in 1395. The Queen’s first cousin Prince Michael of Kent lived at the other end of the Lypiatt Ridge in Nether Lypiatt Manor until 2005. Today our neighbours include the home of the world-famous Giffords Circus. Come and enjoy this area of outstanding natural beauty. A gentle walk through a private valley with incredible panoramic views will lead you to The Ram, a welcoming local gastro-pub serving great food. Or head over the Lypiatt Ridge to The Woolpack, Cider with Rosie author Laurie Lee’s second home. The cottage is also ideally situated for exploring all the culture and heritage that the Cotswolds can offer. Bath and Oxford are within an hour's drive.
  • Susie and Matt are energetic hosts, and they need to be to keep up with their wonderful home! The guest house is absolutely fantastic: ancient structure with new furnishings, cozy, warm, and with a view on the land and grazing horses. Susie and Matt were very helpful, with great tips on local you s and activities. And their breakfast was a magical surprise! Absolutely recommended!!! Grazie!

  • What a find. So much better than I expected. Close to the town of Stroud, yet could be miles away. The area is a beautiful little corner of Cotswald; unspoiled and devoid of masses of tourists. Dining in pubs at the nearby village I had the distinct feeling of being the only tourist in town. The locals were very friendly, ever ready to chat at the bar. One even joined me on one of the many beautiful walks in the valley. That friendliness extends to the wonderful hosts, Susie and Matt, who were ever so caring and helpful. Would love to be able to return some day; but if not will certainly be telling family and friends. Five stars. :-)

  • We would highly recommend staying at Matt and Susie's! The cottage is located in a beautiful area with a great view. Susie and Matt were very kind and welcoming and gave us great tips on beautiful walks around the area. Pubs are at walking distance. Enjoy!

  • Just back from a lovely stay at Susie and Matts place in Middle Lypiatt. Beautiful house in a gem of a spot nestled on one side of a valley in the Cotswolds. They were great hosts, made us feel very welcome - and the rooms are really lovely to be in - and very comfortable. Good spot for general Cotswolding; great walks, pretty villages, etc - but best of all was being able to walk straight from the house across the valley to The Ram Inn for well-kept ales and hearty pub grub. Look out for the old badger at the cottage on the way!

  • Fantastic!! Everything is there in the house for you to have an enjoyable stay. A lovely treat to have eggs and milk in the fridge on our arrival. Beautiful linen, comfortable beds, all you needs in the kitchen to make a meal or snack. Coffee plunger, tea, coffee sugar -the essentials. The house is perfect on 3 levels and out the back a terrace. We had a car so it was very easy to see the area from Painswick. We also had a day trip to Bath and Oxford from the house, its very central to all areas. Marion was our contact while we were there and she was very helpful with anything we needed. She was always at the end of the phone for anything we wanted to ask about. When we needed something she just popped over and left it in the house while we were sight seeing. We ate at the local restaurants, shopped at the corner store, and visited the local hotel. Thank you Marion, we really appreciated all you did for us. I highly recommend you stay in this wonderful home. Painswick is a fantastic village.

  • The cottage was an excellent choice for our weekend in the Cotswolds. It's in beautiful little Painswick just 8 minutes from Stroud and just 25 minutes to Cheltenham. Michael made sure we had everything we needed including a pint of milk for a much needed cup of tea on arrival! The house is easy to find and has been furnished and decorated lovingly, it made us feel right at home. The beds were so comfortable all guests slept like logs. When I am next in the Cotswolds I would be very happy booking with Michael again.

Located in the heart of old Painswick, which is a beautiful village on the western edge of the Cotswolds near Cheltenham. The cottage is located on one of the prettiest lanes, and enjoys extensive views across the Painswick valley from all its bedrooms and from its steep terraced garden.
Southview is ideally placed for exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds. The famous Cotswold Way footpath, which runs from Bath to Chipping Campden, runs right through the village, and in addition the valley is riven by an extensive network of footpaths, many of which can be easily accessed from various places along the lane. If walking is too much effort, or to slake your thirst and satisfy your hunger after a ramble, a variety of great pubs and restaurants can be found within 5 minutes walk of the cottage, as can a well stocked convenience shop. Southview has been lovingly renovated to highlight its traditional character features, namely exposing many Cotswold stone walls and oak beams, using wooden doors, and installing a wood burning stove in the original fireplace. Furthermore two additions to the original cottage greatly enhance the original character - a lovely steep wooden spiral staircase has been installed to give access to the first floor, and another steep staircase from the first floor climbs to the master bedroom in the eaves of the cottage. The interior has been stylishly decorated in a crisp country style that is a fusion of a sleek contemporary pared back look with a more traditional country cottage look. As a result of not being situated opposite another cottage, Southview has stunning countryside views from all its bedrooms, and also the living room enjoys plenty of daylight (and even distant glimpses of the valley ridge). The views don’t stop there however - when the weather is agreeable then climb the steep steps of the garden up to the top terrace to enjoy the pièce de resistance: un-interrupted and far reaching views over the cottage itself of the Painswick Valley, its slopes resplendent in its livery of lush green fields, and its ridges lined by magnificent ancient mature beech woodlands (nearby Beech woodlands are designated special conservation areas). The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, an internet-enabled flatscreen TV (for example allowing films to be viewed from a Netflix account), a Blu-Ray DVD player, a wireless music player compatible with modern smart phones, and a well equipped kitchen with a washer/dryer. The cottage sleeps a maximum of four people in two bedrooms, and has one bathroom. Please note that children under the age of 10 are not permitted at Southview. On street parking is freely available. Southview is an ideal retreat for friends, couples or a family with older children looking for a peaceful getaway. - 2 bedrooms: one double bedroom with king-sized bed (5' wide), one double bedroom with small double bed (4' wide) - Cosy living room and dining area with wood burning stove - Galley kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster kettle and washing/drying machine - Bathroom: Bath with hand-held shower, WC and wash basin - Steep terraced garden Other facilities: - High thread count 100% cotton bed linen - Free WiFi - Freeview TV, DVD player with Netflix - Wireless music player compatible with Apple and Android devices - Pubs/Bistros/Cafes Nearby - Good transport links: Painswick is on a bus route into Cheltenham, 10 minutes from Stroud railway station with direct trains to London Paddington
  • This cottage was really really nice. It was extremely cozy. Perfect for a family of 4. The cottage was very neat and clean and the beds and linen extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and really appreciated the goodies including orange juice, milk, cakes. Painswick is so idyllic and not "touristy" - a hidden gem. . The view from the upper terrace was spectacular. The hosts made it very easy for us including instructions for all the appliances, information on Painswick including where the local supermarkets were etc. Arrival was also easy with the key safe allowing us to get there anytime. We did have some power issues on the first day, however this was fixed very promptly by Peter - thanks for this.

  • We had an amazing time at Daniel and Théa's place. The house is clean, comfortable, and as beautiful as the pictures suggest (that includes the garden and its gorgeous view). The location is terrific. Painswick is a lovely town. We used it as a base for exploring the cotswolds (which worked out great), but the Painswick area itself is well worth visiting. Daniel and Théa are great hosts. Everything was really straightforward. The process for getting the keys was super easy and they provide us with all the information we needed and more. I recommend it without any hesitation.

  • A relaxing weekend getaway in a beautiful modernized cottage in a lovely Cotswold village. We had two cars, due to meeting friends there, so parked one on the road and one in the nearby car park. This worked fine for us. We found it comfortable for two couples with nice local pubs for food and drink.

  • Dan was great at getting back to us and did all he could to prepare the cottage for us despite us booking very last minute. The cottage is lovely and just what we needed for a short relaxing break in the Cotswolds. Painswick is a beautiful village and greatly located to explore the surrounding areas. We were welcomed with nice treats and breakfast goods prepared by Dan too which was a lovely bonus.

  • Lovely location. Really cosy little cottage! It was a good change of environment and pace from our normal working lives. Thanks for opening up this place for us to relax.

  • Great, cozy, fun place to stay with so much character in really a peaceful, beautiful village. We enjoyed the view from the top tier outdoor seating/garden. It was an easy walk up to Painswick Beacon from the place - beautiful at the top, and a great central point to explore from. We did a day trip around Cotswolds, a trip to Oxford and Blenheim Palace, and a trip to the Forest of Dean. Just a quick 12 min drive to Stroud for groceries, restaurants and a farmers market. A small corner grocery store that was a couple minutes walking distance sold basic items.

There is also often a travel cot available, please request when booking. Please note this room is NOT suitable for more than 2 adults or with children over 14. The shared bathroom is one floor below, with a bath, electric shower, loo and sink. There's another loo next door to the bathroom. There are other bathrooms in the house too. A breakfast of cereal, toast and fruit juice is included in the price (you can help yourself, I'll show you where things are). You are welcome to use the large kitchen for cooking. We have WIFI which you are welcome to use, its unlimited and is generally good in all rooms. The house is a large family and shared 'end of terrace Victorian' home. We have 3 cats and a dog, several children/young adults and lodgers too. There are several rooms we have for airbandb guests (a single and another superking on the floor below the attic). Its definitely more a busy family home than an immaculate b and b, you're encouraged to make yourselves at home.. There are toys and clutter and movement. We like it and hope you will too. Please do note that the house has a lot of stairs - 5 floors in all - and the room is in the attic at the top, the kitchen in the basement. The attic staircase is narrow and getting large suitcases up is possible but can be awkward! Parking is often difficult out the front in the evenings, so we often suggest parking round the back of the house (accessed along an unmade track). A permit out the front is often available if necessary. We're right in central Stroud, minutes from the bus and railway station, and all the shops and restaurants. Do check out the fabulous farmers market on a Saturday! We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
Stroud is a very chilled place, where I am imagine you'll feel comfortable and made to feel welcome. It is an 'alternative' town with interesting shops and cafes, alongside some of the usual high street shops. The countryside round about is lovely and there are many walks that can be done from the house. We're ideally placed for the award winning Saturday farmers market, Stroud Subscription Rooms, Centre of Arts and Science and Lansdown Hall (all within 3-7 minutes walk).
  • We had a lovely time at Natasha’s place. The room was spacious , neat and the bed was awesome! Natasha is very kind, relaxed and interested and so are the kids. It is a huge house, but then again very cosy and crowded in a positive way. We would definitely recommend! Thank you!

  • We had a great time at this B&B, and were made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked in. Natasha and David were very friendly and accommodating, as were their family. The room was very comfortable, and despite the bathroom being shared downstairs, it worked pretty well. The B&B was very central, yet there was a park and countryside not far away. We enjoyed having breakfast with the family and hearing about what Stroud is like as a place.

  • Natasha and her family were very warm and welcoming and made us feel really at home. We highly recommend staying with them.

    Astrid2014-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Natasha's place for just one night but she made this stay very pleasant. She took care of us even though we arrived in the middle of the night.

  • Nice 3rd floor living room where we all slept in the same room (a bit hard to carry the 22kg suitcase in the stairway). The house is nice and the family as well "Do it yourself" way of living (including breakfast) but overall good and Natasha is very nice

    DOMINIQUE2016-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very nice stay with Natasha and family! The house is in a great location to explore Stroud, and the attic room was very cozy. Breakfast was pleasant, and we had everything we needed for a nice stay. Natasha was very helpful, and we felt very much at home.

    Leah and Brian2015-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Natasha was away when we visited but a family member greeted us. Upon knocking at the front door, we heard someone inside say ‘Shall I let them in?’ We were shown where the kitchen was and which cupboards to find food in. We were then shown to our bedroom on the top floor and were offered to carry our bags. Once we reached the room, that was really the end of the hosting and we were left to fend for ourselves. Although the room was well presented, the beds were very soft and uncomfortable and within minutes of getting in the bed, I had multiple insect bites. There was a sofa at the end of the room so I slept on that. Just before leaving, we discovered the tea and coffee making facilities within the room as this hadn’t been shown to us. Breakfast was very much a do-it-yourself affair and we were rummaging through cupboards trying to find cups, plates and food items. This felt very strange in someone else’s house. There were children and animals around but no one else to be seen. There was no ‘check out’ as such and we just had to let ourselves out the house. For £50 a night, I would have expected more in the way of hosting. It felt like we had literally gate-crashed someone else’s house. Judging my Natasha’s previous comments, I am sure she is a lovely host so I would recommend staying here when she is home.

    marie-claire2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Initially Natasha was not in but her oldest son Zander (I0) was very welcoming and he managed everything fine. They are a lovely family living in a lively house. Having said this, the room was as described and as it is the only one in the top floor it was private and quiet.

Welcome to our 250 year old Grade 2 listed cottage on the edge of Stroud in the Slad Valley, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Your own private staircase leading to 2 generous and cosy double bedrooms and your own private bathroom.
Hi , we are Helen and Bill- welcome to our home on the edge of Stroud in the beautiful Slad valley. We live here with our 20 year old son and our 10 year old dog "Bob". We have a lovely large and roomy 250 year old Grade 2 listed cottage made of Cotswold stone. The cottage is situated on the edge of Stroud in the County of Gloucestershire, in the beautiful Cotswold Hills, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Guests have a private staircase leading to two spacious rooms with their own private bathroom. If you are a party of 1 or 2 and only want to book one room we will not let the other during your stay, so you are guaranteed privacy. If there are 3 or 4 of you we can book both rooms for the additional charge. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The house is very old but we have made sure that all modern amenities are there for you. There are lots of original oak beams, some of which are quite low so you will need to watch your head! Both rooms have a TV, the first room also benefits from a YouView box giving access to internet "catch up TV" and also Netflix. The house is an easy walk to the Market Town of Stroud (where the lawnmower was invented!!) and picturesque village of Slad, made famous by the author Laurie Lee in his autobiography “Cider with Rosie”, a seminal work depicting life in the idyllic English countryside in the early twentieth century. We are within an easy drive of many historic Cotswold towns such as Cheltenham, Tetbury and Cirencester as well as countless breath taking villages with cosy pubs and delicious food. Walking and cycling in the area is fantastic with lots of lovely views. There is a train station within walking distance in Stroud which goes directly to London (train takes 90 minutes) Cheltenham, Gloucester as well as other places. The property is 30 miles from the Roman Spa Town of Bath; the ancient monument of Stonehenge and William Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford upon Avon are both a 90 minute drive away. Stroud has an award-winning farmers market and the amenities you would expect of a busy market town.
There are fantastic walks right from our front gate. The famous Woolpack Pub in Slad (watering hole of Laurie Lee) is just over a mile from our front door. There is a beautiful walk there taking it the breathtaking views from Swifts Hill (see picture) that takes about an hour - it's downhill all the way home. If you want to cycle you are welcome to bring your bikes. We can show you some great cycling routes of varying distances - both the hilly ( or even very hilly) and relatively flat varieties.
  • Bill and Helen (and Bob the dog) were wonderful hosts for the two nights we stayed in their charming B&B in the Slad Valley. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very well welcome in their home. My husband and I and two friends were staying to attend the Cheltenham races. I would recommend staying in Bill and Helen if you are planning a trip to Cheltenham races next year as their location is so convenient and there are plenty of lovely places to dine out nearby. We are definitely planning another trip back in the coming years.

    Rachel2016-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We were made to feel very welcome indeed, the facilities were fantastic and our hosts could not have been more helpful or willing to assist us with many extras which made it a fantastic stay. The facilities were very private and convenient and Bill and Helen made us feel just like family.

  • We had a great stay here on our visit to Stroud. Bill is an excellent host - friendly and welcoming. The cottage is just as described with 2 lovely bedrooms and well appointed bathroom in a private upstairs area. We enjoyed the massive TVs and luxury bedding. A super continental breakfast was provided in the spacious kitchen-dining room, with it's original beamed ceiling. The cottage is bigger than it looks from the outside, and has a lovely large garden at the back. A special mention for Bob the dog - friendly and entertaining. Would definitely recommend and come again.

    Charles2016-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • We, my parents, my husband and I, stayed at Bill's lovely cottage for a night, and really enjoyed it! Bill is very welcoming and served a great breakfast. To our surprise we also got some packed snacks for on the road, which came in handy! The rooms are nice and very comfortable. Would definitely recommend the place.

    Selma2016-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was amazing, we loved the garden, the beds were really comfortable, and Bill accommodated our need for an early breakfast. Great advice to book for the woolpack for dinner - wonderful food! Thanks, we will definitely come again.

  • Bill was very welcoming and helpful.

    Eve2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • We've just returned from a wonderful stay in Slad. Bill and Helen's place was far better than we had expected. We had complete privacy in a self contained part of the house. The two spotless bedrooms were spacious and had plenty of room for relaxing in front of the TV. We stayed with 2 small children so space was vital and it was perfect for our needs. The beds were super comfy and the bathroom lovely too. What made our stay even better was the warm welcome from Bill, Helen (and Bob!) and the amazing breakfast. They couldn't have been friendlier and made our stay more pleasant.

    Libby2015-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Bill was brilliant and deserves his 'super host' status! The accomodation was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable...and the breakfast was delicious. We would definitely stay with him again.

  • This is a lovely house in a very beautiful village. We had a great long weekend there walking in the Cotswolds and would very happily go back for another visit. Communication from Sandra was excellent.

  • Dover House is a wonderful base from which to explore the Cotswolds. Painswick is a charming village, with dozens of scenic walks and perhaps the best view of all from the garden of Dover House, where our family of six enjoyed breakfasts and dinners over the bank holiday weekend. The garden view is a truly stunning feature. The house itself is tastefully furnished, bed linens are high quality and the bathrooms and kitchen kitted out with all modern appliances. The house is arranged over 4 levels, with bathrooms on 3 of the levels, which worked well with our four teenagers - allowing everyone a little more space. As well as a guide to the house, there are a few local guide books which we found helpful for planning our walks and excursions (locally, the Rococo Gardens are worth a visit). Check-in and check-out were very straightforward and well organised. Sandra was a great host - getting in touch early to check on our arrival plans and whether we had questions. We hope that we will have an opportunity to return to Dover House on another holiday in the future.

    Denise2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra's house is wonderfully situated in scenic Painswick, a great place to start off walks around the Cotswolds but also a lovely village in its own right with local pubs and restaurants. The house itself is great, plenty of space for all of us and very comfortable. The kitchen is quite small but Sandra has an extra appendix to he kitchen if you need more space and she has every pot and pan imaginable! Communication was great and we had a brilliant Easter break - thanks Sandra!

    Sangeeta2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra's place was very family friendly, the kids absolutely loved it. Great location and very comfortable. Easy to get around the area and close to all amenities. We had a very relaxing time. Super easy check in, clean, a lot of space, good WiFi.

  • Warm helpful welcome in beautiful location. Description and further info from Host after book was accurate. Very much enjoyed the view over the valley from the living area and looking at the trees through the massive skylight while lying in bed! Lovely walks in the area, particularly enjoyed the Laurie Lee one around the valley - map from The Woolpackin Slad.

  • We didn't meet Paul but the bed was comfortable in an interesting space overlooking a beautiful valley. Thanks.

  • Fantastic location - we had a great stay!

    Leif2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Leading up to our stay communication with Paul was brilliant and very efficient. Upon arriving at the flat Paul immediately made us feel very welcome and ensured we settled in well. Paul had stated in his messages that the flat was unfinished, however I wouldn't agree. It's a lovely space that oozes with character. However, i do wonder what an amazing personality it will have when it's apparently finished. The flat is brilliant. Its very unique, extremely cosy and certainly somewhere we found very easy to relax. The space is great with a lovely open plan layout. The bed is very comfy and the kitchen area is fantastic with lovely wooden features. More importantly the views from the kitchen window are stunning. You certainly won't have issues deciding who's going to do the washing up with that view. Check out was very flexible. Paul had stated nobody else was arriving so we could take our time. This was a lovely touch to end our little break away on. We were both so calm and relaxed and not worrying about time like you usually do at a hotel. We both lead hectic lives constantly sticking to time frames, so having that flexibility made a huge difference for us and we really appreciated it. Thank you Paul. We definately plan to visit again soon. 2 days isn't long enough to explore the stunning surroundings. In addition we would love to come back to try some of the local produce from your farm. Thank you for creating a fantastic and warm hearted stay for us. We look forward to visiting again soon. Kind regards, Rachel and Will

  • Quiet yet convenient. Lovely views

    Paul2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great couple of days at the Hay Barn. It's got a well equipped kitchen, wonderful shower, comfy bed, a lovely view from the kitchen window and fabulous walks on the doorstep.

    Brenda2016-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is an unusual and unique place to stay. The farm (cattle, horses and sheep) has lots of activity going on. It is a productive farm and you have the chance to buy home produced beef and lamb as an added extra. Also Paul greeted us with a bottle of very delicious apple juice made from apples from the farm orchard. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone who wants a stay quite unlike the some of the "sterile" farm conversions where very upmarket accommodation has been created from redundant farm buildings. This is a no frills real experience and Paul and Sarah were great hosts.

  • This place is large, light and airy. It has all the home comforts you could ask for. Kate made contact to confirm check in times and even asked on arrival if we needed anything like milk etc...she offered us her pool even with her family around for the bank holiday. She offered to help with trip planning too. Luckily for me i had a former inhabitant with me. Would definiately use again next time there as location is perfect.

  • Great place to stay and very quiet and comfortable. We had a good time at Kate's house, and most things were pretty good. Make sure to pack your own essentials though!

    Ellen2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's place was really good located, walkable distance to the city center (and a good walk actually). It was clean, very comfortable for the three of us and she even picked up from the station and offered to do the same the day we were leaving. She was very available in case we had any problem and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again at her place! Thank you Kate!

Made herself available throughout our stay if we needed to contact her about anything. The place had all the necessities and was lovely quiet break, just what we wanted!

  • Kate was there to greet us on arrival and show us around the apartment at the essential items we needed to know. She advised us on some places to eat near by, which we tried and they were lovely. The apartment is in a great place we could access historical sites (Woodchester Mansion) by car and there is lots of great footpaths from the site itself. Its a great base for visiting the area, it was very warm to come back to after a days walking.

    Amy2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • We came down for a wedding nearby. Kate's place is a lovely studio flat, completely separate from their house enabling us to come and go with a minimum of disturbance. It is spacious and well-equipped and just what we needed! Thanks for a lovely weekend!

Stroud has much to offer for a weekend break or longer. Only an hour and a half from London by train, our house is only 5 minutes from the station by car, or a 10 minute walk. If your stay includes a Saturday morning then a visit to the award winning Farmer's Market is recommended - there are some fantastic take away food stalls and plenty of cafes. There are walks from the door or a little further up the road brings you to Rodborough Common where you will be rewarded with wonderful views of Wales and the River Severn. Another must while you are up there is an ice cream from our local ice cream factory, Winstones. If you fancy a longer walk through the Slad Valley you can end up at the famous pub frequented by Laurie Lee, The Woolpack. There are plenty of local restaurants and pubs, two are only a couple of minutes walk from our door.
  • One of the best B&B's I have stayed in.

  • Jane and her husband were wonderful hosts, and made us feel very welcome and comfortable during our stay. The room and home are exactly as listed on the website - it was a homey and comfrtable place to stay! Jane also assisted us with hiking routes and suggestions for activities in the town. Breakfast was also delicious! Highly recommended!

  • Jane and Rob have been really welcome, and mede us feel very comfortable during our stay. The location is great and really near to the town. We had a great exploration in Saturday morning Farmer market. Beside this, the room is very tidy and clean, plus a great view outside window. We are glad to find Jane's place, and spend a perfect weekend in Cotswolds.

    Li2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • We got a lovely warm welcome with tea and freshly made scones. Jane has a lovely family who all made us feel welcome. The second floor accommodation, consisting of two freshly decorated and immaculate bedrooms and a shower room, make a great 'flat' for a family of four and the dedicated sitting room/dining room was full of character and a great place to eat and relax. There were lovely touches such as the freshly cut flowers. If you use ABnB to stay in characterful properties and feel at home then this ticks all the boxes. Thanks Jane and Rob for your hospitality.

    Jeremy2015-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jane and Rob are superlative hosts. There Farmhouse is friendly clean and welcoming. Jane and Rob are both very easy to talk to and knowledgeable and helped us out greatly with our travels. We loved it.

  • Jane's gorgeous family home epitomises all that is good about an airbnb stay. Perfectly located for accessing the town centre by foot and the beautiful walks the Cotswolds has on offer with resident experts to guide you to everything you would need for a fabulous stay! Her communication ahead of the stay was superb and very reassuring and the hosts were attentive but not overwhelming - even Bingo the Labrador adds to the experience (and is very well behaved). The house is traditional for the area, with spacious rooms, all mod cons needed for a few days away as well as being sparkling clean. Excellent value at £57 per night for two people the breakfast was a delight and Jane even went to the trouble of cooking us some duck eggs sourced locally. I would highly recommend this listing to anyone wishing to stay in the area.

    amanda2016-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jane and Rob (& Bingo their very affectionate Labrador) were great hosts and made us feel most welcome in their home. Our private lounge was very relaxing (especially with the log fire burning) and we really enjoyed our stay. There's a great bar/restaurant within a few minutes walk and good access to Stroud and the magnificent surrounding countryside. All highly recommended.

    Jeff & Sue2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Upon arrival at Jane's home we were immediately made very welcome: after showing us our rooms (entire top floor of the house for us), we were spoiled with tea and cakes at a sunny spot in the garden (which looks exactly as good as on the picture!). The neighborhood is quiet, yet only a short walk away from the town center. Jane and her entire family were constantly preoccupied with our comfort, be it for food and drinks or for heating in the rooms. We had a very good breakfast with fresh fruit and always some home-made marmalade and granola. On day 2 Rob prepared their bicycles for us to go for a ride (along with recommendations where to stop for a cup of tea). A wonderful experience in a wonderful home.

Welcome to my flat in Stroud town centre! We are opposite the train station and the bustling town where you have all the local shops and services on your doorstep. The room is nicely lit and very quiet in spite of being so central as we are on the top floor of the apartment building. The studio lounge/kitchen is comfortable and warm and you are welcome to use the utilities such as tv and wifi..
I have a two bedroom flat with one bathroom and a studio kitchen/lounge.
  • The flat is in central location and easy to find. There are a lot of amenities all around. The room is comfortable and tidy. Chris is helpful and respects privacy. Extra point: I left my charger in the room and he offered me to mail it.

  • Had a lovely stay at Michael's apartment. It was clean and had everything I needed. Location is great-only about 5 minutes walk to the High Street. Michael kindly picked me up from the train station and took me to the apartment, which was very handy as I arrived at 10.30pm. He gave me a key, which I left at the flat on departure. Great place if you want to keep yourself to yourself.

    Julia2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place was perfect! It was comfortable, well-equipped and conveniently located to explore Stroud and the Cotswolds. Michael was always quick to respond to messages and even offered to arrange a lift for us from Stroud station to the flat. He wasn't there when we arrived but his wife Pauline met us at the flat, showed us around and gave us some great tips about the town.

    Richard2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Michael and Pauline are very welcoming and the apartment is in an excellent location just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. The apartment itself is clean, well maintained and has good quality facilities, which served our needs exceptionally well.

    Greg2017-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place is lovely, a modern, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable bed, and use of their back deck with its spectacular view. Michael kindly picked me up at the station, and Pauline dropped me off when I left. Stroud is a great spot to visit, and to explore the picturesque Cotswold area. I highly recommend Michael's place.

    Kevin2017-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place for a short stay. Very clean and as advertised. Micheal was very friendly and helpful with arranging keys. Didn't actually meet host but that was fine and we were happy to be left to ourselves.

    Darragh2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Michael and Pauline are welcoming and friendly hosts to a small comfortable apartment just down a small steep decline within walking distance of Stroud town centre. There is a lovely garden deck with a beautiful view which they welcome you to use during the day if you so wish. Parking outside is available too.

    Paul2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Apartment is exactly as described, Michael left a few basics in the kitchen which was much appreciated. Check-in and out were both completely hassle free. Slightly awkward to get to if you don't like narrow roads but basically fine. Only drawback was the shower wasn't fantastic, other than that would highly recommend.

Beautiful 4 bedroom detached house in the heart of Cotswolds-Stroud. It is a well-maintained comfortable self catering detached house with 4 spacious bedrooms, fully equipped modern kitchen. It has 6 beds and can sleep up to 8 adults. Suitable for family/friends gathering.
With its dramatic Cotswolds landscape, unique arts and crafts heritage, fabulous festivals and independent shops, the Stroud District is the least commercialised and unexplored area for a holiday in the Cotswolds. In fact, Lonely Planet recently named the South Cotswolds as one of Europe's best kept secrets.
  • Very cool nearby villages and lovely house!

  • We had a great time in this home. The atmosphere was relaxed and the host was really friendly. Only has a couch for 3 in the sitting room which was a bit small but large dining table to sit around and catch up. Good parking and close to town.

    Bindi2017-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Two things made me choose this house for our vacation stay. 1) I liked that no outside shoes and no pets were allowed in the house. 2) I was attracted to the skylight in the bedrooms upstairs (which I saw from the photos). The house was just the right size for our family. The rooms were cosy, comfortable and adequately furnished. There were also ample power sockets in the bedrooms which we appreciated. It was nice that the kitchen and bathrooms were well lit. We loved the quiet surroundings and the close proximity to the town. It was a comfortable stay and we would recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you, Yiyong, for sharing your house.

    Caroline2017-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very well presented and clean. There were six of us staying and we had lots of room, the kitchen and conservatory was great, would recommend. Also very convenient for Stroud shopping area.

    Beth2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Although it is a short drive from the main Cotswolds attractions, it is a peaceful getaway that is spacious and can accommodate a large group. Very clean and great communication from Yiyong.

    Jennifer2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The house is absolutely lovely. With everything you could need. It's in beautiful surroundings with local amenities close by.

Our place is close to town but far enough away for peace and tranquility. You’ll love it here because of the great walks, valley views and wonderful sunsets. Stroud has an award winning weekly farmers market, organic cafes and independent shops. The private ground floor shower room is accessed from the summer house up several levels through the garden. Tea coffee and fresh milk provided to the summer house. We have a friendly dog!
The summer house has a double sofa bed and and heating if you need it. You are welcome to use the fire bowl for cosy evenings on the decking. Wood and kindling is available for £3 a bag. We have a maximum of 3 nights (minimum 1).
Summer Street is a ten minute walk to town down a long hill so allow 20 minutes coming back up! Stroud has much to offer and many festivals throughout the year. The mainline station has direct trains to London in 90 minutes and to Gloucester and Cheltenham. There is a lovely walk from the house through woods along the Slad valley and lots of other local walks. We have a great variety of cafe's, bars and pubs doing good food with lots of local produce. The canal system is mostly walkable and there are short boat trips at weekends.
  • Such a lovely place to stay!

  • My partner and I booked Ruth's summer house at very late notice (the day before!) but Ruth was still able to accommodate us and provide a very relaxing stay. If you're looking for somewhere to relax in the Cotswolds, look no further! Ruth couldn't do any more to ensure we had a great weekend, even providing us with breakfast in the morning from her conservatory with an amazing view over the town of Stroud. Her dog is lovely and friendly and kept us company in the morning. The summer house itself has everything you would need, Ruth provided us with fire wood which kept us warm over a glass of Prosecco on the terrace in the evening. We slept very well and woke up to an amazing view from the bed overlooking the fields. There is a kettle in the room so we had a cup of tea to wake us up too. Stroud has a lovely farmers market where we bought some locally made gin and food for lunch. There are as many cosy pubs that could need in the surrounding area, we made sure we toured as many as we could in the time we had! Make sure your visit Winstones ice cream a short drive away. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ruth's summer house to anyone looking for a peaceful time in the Cotswolds. We'll definitely be returning!

Large red-brick Victorian house (previously a garden center) in the Stroud valley (the heart of the Cotswolds). Belle Vue Road is named that for its beautiful view so it really is an ideal slice of the five valleys. The location could not be closer to the town centre so you have the luxury of strolling into Stroud at a whim and being there in less than five minutes. Or you can enjoy a big garden with palm trees and bamboo, two lawns and plenty of benches. Our living room isn't bad either.
  • The house is spacious and cozy, it really gives you a sense of being part of the family. We could make use of the kitchen, had a big bathroom near the room, and could also spend some time in their lovely garden. The level of cleanliness could be improved. But we are great stay overall, and the hosts were incredibly nice and available. Thank you!

  • (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps doesn't seem to give the proper address, so it was a little difficult to find, but once we did it was good! Large room provided was nice and the bed was very comfy.

    Ellen2017-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • The place was easy to find but it was far from the idyllic place we were hoping for. Matt rented us his room so his stuff was everywhere and he had to come to the room a few times to pick up things (including when we were away so if you're private people it may not work for you). We also had somebody coming in the room as we were getting ready for sleep looking for things without knocking and with little regard we were there. Moreover the whole house is full of clutter and dust and there was just one bathroom to share between 10-12 people that were in the house that night so get ready for a long wait in the morning. It does have the plus of being very close to the centre and the hosts were nice and welcoming but it's the worst Airbnb I stayed in and would not recommend it in its current condition.

This is a light and airy Edwardian Stroud Town House, in the centre of Stroud at the start of the stunning Slad Valley. It is less than 2 mins walk to the famous Stroud farmer's market and has easy access to all of the local amenities. For those who like a walk before lunch there is the famous Wool Pack Pub in Slad which was a local for the famous writer Laurie Lee, author of Cider with Rosie.
This is a lovely double room, with original features, such as fire place. It is on the 2nd floor, wonderful views across the park, with a place to sit in the window, the bathroom is on the first floor. The bed is cast iron. There is a kettle in the room, an armchair and a working television. There are tea and coffee facilities. Where possible we have used chemical free or organic. The paint on the walls is organic and the carpet is 80% wool. We also have two friendly dogs, a bearded collie cross and a whippet.
A warm and friendly neighbourhood, very safe, definitely a little bohemian, but very mixed and welcoming.

I really appreciated the warm and friendly welcome from my relaxed and flexible host, the large bright bedroom, the location close to the town centre with all its amenities yet still wonderfully quiet - all my needs were perfectly met. I loved the spaciousness of my room with its softly carpeted clear space which was great for practicing yoga (when I could drag myself out of bed early enough to do it!). Quiet, secluded location very close to the centre of Stroud. 5 minutes walk to railway station with links to Cheltenham, Bath, Bristol, London. Many interesting cafes, restaurants and pubs are within easy walking distance in addition to a major supermarket and a local convenience store. Not to be missed is the Saturday Farmers' Market, the first of its kind in Britain and only a few minutes walk away. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world as we ourselves are well travelled.
The double bedroom is on the first floor of our split level, modern detached property and is situated next to the bathroom which is yours to use exclusively. There are beautiful views from the room along one of Stroud's Five Valleys and across to Rodborough Fort which is situated on the edge of National Trust common land. The bed is suitable for one or two adults. We can also accommodate a baby of up to eighteen months in a travel cot in the same room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the room. We are a non-smoking household. Self-service breakfast options are available e.g. cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, toast etc. Advance notice of any allergies is required.
As well as being close to the town centre we are also a 5 minute walk from the beautifully restored Cotswold Canals. The towpath gives you access to a variety of unique pubs and cafes.

  • A truly wonderful cottage located in the beautiful Painswick, Cotswolds. The area is everything you would expect from this picturesque part of the country and the cottage is located only 2 minutes from the local shop and pub. The cottage itself was delightful, with a lovely mix of modern amenities and country cottage cosiness. Everything was explained clearly in the house manual and it could not have been simpler. Highly recommend this stay if your are looking for a country get away from the city!

  • Our stay at Flax Cottage was perfect. The house is confortable and cosy and we really felt as if we were at home because the cottage had got all the essentials for our stay. As a matter of fact we had everything we needed and all the gadgets have worked perfectly well. And we must really thank for the wine and cake welcome kindly left in the kitchen for our arrival. On the other hand the situation of Flax Cottage was top for driving along the Cotswolds. We really enjoyed staying there.

  • Flax cottage is everything you could wish for if you would like to experience British village life, small but not overcrowded by tourists, (as are other Cotswold villages)with gorgeous little streets and beautiful old buildings, churches, hotels (the Painswick Hotel Stunning)and pubs within walking distance. Flax cottage is so comfortable, warm and very well equipped. Thank you Itziar for the welcome bottle of wine and crisps, well needed after a hectic trip getting out of London on 23 Dec!!! The highlights for me..... fabulously comfortable beds, warm carpeting in the bedrooms, crisp white cotton bed linen, cosy rooms and staircases and the most amazingly effective oven and cutest kitchen. My only downside would be the water pressure of the cold water in the shower and basin which did give us grief at the end of our stay. Advice re Parking - a very nice neighbor advised us to park at the community center rather than on the street as the grumpy neighbor was in Austria but would return to complain. All good here and no problems! Thank you for your hospitality Itziar and family!!!!! Warm regards Ann

  • We had a very nice stay at Flax Cottage. The cottage looks very nice and was extremely clean. Itziar kindly prepared a cake and a bottle of wine for our arrival. Painswick is a very nice village and is ideal to explore the Cotswolds. We would definitively recommend Flax Cottage.
