Places to stay in Sirena
Our beautiful and spacious cement house was just completed in December 2019. The spacious bedroom offers a queen bed, and in the living room there is a comfy full-sized sofa bed. We have an additional single bed with mattress that we can set up in the living room or bedroom upon request. The spacious bathroom with beautiful stonework is inviting for taking a nice hot water shower. The fully outfitted kitchen is a semi-outdoor space, all screened in with mosquito netting. Nice outside patio.
The entire house is surrounded by maintained garden and fruit trees such as bananas, coconut (pipa), plantain, lemons, avocado, starfruit, and more. Parking is right outside your home on the driveway. The property is around 1500 square meters in total.
The neighborhood is quiet and there are only a few houses around. Behind the rental unit, there is farmland with plants and with our two horses Mora and Morita. Next to the rental towards the North, there is a property that no one currently lives on. The street out front of the rental home is a dead-end road with a few more families that live there. We are currently the last house on the road with grid-tied electricity. The families further down the road use solar energy and sometimes run a generator. Right around the corner, around 5 minutes walk, there is primary and secondary forest with all 4 monkey species, sloth, coati, agouti, Tyra, pumas, ocelot, and more! The Bambu hill is connected to world-famous Corcovado National Park, so all animals that are found there can also be found here. If you're into birding, there is ample opportunity to bird watch. We have toucans, scarlet macaws, parrots, and hummingbirds right on our property, as well as Trogons, Red-capped Manakins, Torquoise Mot Mot in the forest right around the corner. Often you can hear the howler monkeys right from your front porch in the early mornings (howling over at the forest around 5 minutes walk).
  • This house was amazing. The Casa de la Bambu is situated around 10min (by car) from the city. We had everything what we needed. You will see that Janina put a lot of love in this house so that everybody feels just like home. So the bed was very comfortable and we had everywhere an ventilator. In the bedroom was an AC. The kitchen was fully equipped. You could sit at the terrace and simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings and hear the chirping birds. We wished we could have stayed longer. But we will definitely come another time back here. We can highly recommend this Airbnb house. Janina is a very friendly and warm host. She was there for us and gave us a lot of tips.

  • Janina is a great host, you‘ll always feel welcomed by her and your neighbor Josh. The house is clean and private and it‘s only a few minutes by car to the next big supermarket, restaurants and fun activities. Because of the lovely garden there are many birds and even Aras are stopping by. We also never had trouble with the wifi or hot water- it all worked perfectly fine. A big plus is that they have their own filter, so you can drink tab water! Janina and Josh both were really helpful when it came to booking activities or planning trips as they both know the area and people extremely well. I‘m sure they’d also be happy to help if there‘s something wrong or you got questions, concerns or anything else.

  • Janina's appartment is an amazing place! It's huge, clean and contains everything needed! We enjoyed our stay very much. The communication with Janina was easy, her dogs are sweet and Josh easy going and very helpful! We had no car but Arturo was always there to help with transport if needed. We can definitely recommend Janina's place!

  • Lovely space and fantastic host, Janina was friendly and super helpful with local information and directions. Great value for the price, we highly recommend!

  • The accommodation is really very well equipped and designed with attention to detail. Everything was clean and the location is nice and quiet. Janina is a warm and helpful host and has good tips for discovering the area.

  • Janina and Josh were incredible hosts and their place is AMAZING. We were so happy with the comfort level of the abode, the crazy bird life, friendly neighborhood, and the kindness of the hosts. Janina and Josh are invested in their community, and learning about the area through their eyes was valuable. If you like nature, this place is perfect. If you’d like to be a bit outside of town, it’s perfect. Air conditioning was a welcomed amenity given it’s rarity in CR. I was able to work and do video calls with the WiFi easily. We would return in a heartbeat and stay longer.

    Jason2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great. Larger than the pictures. Cold Air which comes in handy. Great internet. Lots of thought went into this. Take a tour with Josh when you get there. Communication was great right from the start. Highly recommend.

    Ray2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at Janina’s place. The house itself is very cozy and immaculately clean. If you keep the two doors to the bedroom closed you can keep it super dry and cold in there for a very comfortable sleep. The setting is also amazing. Parrots come flying in and out of the yard...and the nature sounds you hear from the netted kitchen are incredible. Janina is also very sweet and beyond hospitable. Can’t recommend enough! Oh yeah...nice HOT showers, too :)

  • If you decide to stay with Pascal & Manuel you will find a humble paradise in Costa Rica. We have been traveling along the West Coast and this was definitely our favorite place throughout the whole journey. The Airbnb is located around 10min car drive (all wheel recommended) from Puerto Jimenez and offers travelers a quiet oasis of piece and nature. You have access to several kilometers of "private beach" just 25m away from the house, crystal clear water and a variety of wild animals like Aras, Tucans, Sloth, etc. around the house. The room was super clean, with generous space and a balcony facing the beach. It actually feels like you're sleeping outside (but well saved by a mosquito net) as the rooms don't have glass windows. The hosts were absolutely amazing. We had a warm welcome and got some super helpful recommendations for activities as well as restaurants for our stay. The hosts prepare breakfast every morning, which is a generous portion with a lot of fresh fruits. They really care about the people visiting them. Communication was always super friendly and fast. We can only recommend staying with Pascal and Manuel if you are a nature lover that is seeking some peace on your journey! P.s. the sun rises over the ocean right in front of the apartment. If you are willing to get up around 5am, this is the most spectacular way to start your morning.

  • Pascal's place is very beautiful and tranquil. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, the view was incredible and we loved the proximity of nature to the house that Pascal has maintained. Beach is just steps away; we saw such an incredible sunrise. As for breakfast - certainly of one of the best we had during our trip in Costa Rica. It's a magical place and we hope to go back one day. You will likely need a car to come and go as the property is about 15-20 min drive from Puerto Jimenez. If you do drive and are coming back after dark, make a stop on the little bridge and check for crocodiles in the river as we had our most exciting croc watching experience there (crocs are active during the night and you will spot them with a good flashlight as it will reflect in their eyes).

  • What to say about Punta Preciosa? We spent two perfect nights there! The place is beautiful, calm, it feels very good! The beach is not even 100 meters away, perfect for watching the sunrise and the sunset! The house is tastefully decorated! Our room was large and clean! We had a view of the Gulf of Dulce. There is a mangrove just behind the house, we kayak there. The breakfast was good ! Pascal was an excellent host. We had very good communication with. He took care of booking our activity and made us discover his corner of paradise. We had a great time with him. We will come back for sure !! I highly recommend it !!!!!

  • Amazing location an example of everything that Costa Rica has to offer.

    Jill2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Magnificent house, very clean and exceptional view! Superb private beach where you can even see the sunrise. Away from the noise of the city. Perfect for relaxing. Please note: no air conditioning and it is very hot even at night.

    Nicolas2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Pascal’s place was a gem tucked away in the Osa peninsula. The description is accurate and we enjoyed this piece of paradise during our time in Corcovado. A couple of things to note the drive from town is about 15-20 mins to the house on a narrow dirt road; a 4 wheel drive is not needed but it is a bumpy drive. The two restaurants are about 10 mins driving distance so make sure you factor that in because you cannot prepare meals in the kitchen or have food upstairs due to ants. They will prepare meals upon request and breakfast was included (it was very good). We loved the location and experience. It was difficult sleeping at night due to the humid environment and no AC however waking up to the animals and a beautiful sunrise was worth it. Highly recommend for guests who want an authentic experience of staying in a beautiful eco lodge and the having their own private beach. Thanks again! Pura vida!

  • Great host & facilities. Very responsive to questions & requests. Everything was spotless. Food was great. Grounds & house were well kept & beautiful. Felt very secure & safe during our stay. Due to the remote location & limited amenities, (which are explained in detail in the description) Punta Preciosa is not for everyone. But it was ideal for us!

    Brenda2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Pascal is an excellent host who goes out of his way to provide his guests with a unique place to stay. The house is solar powered, very clean and right on an endless, private beach. The breakfast of local fruits and eggs from his chickens was amazing. I would suggest a 4 x 4 car to get there since the "road" is pretty sandy in some places. Highly recommended, I hope to return someday!

Our buildings are right next to the ocean so you can fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean and the rainforest. Our property boasts 130 acres of Primary rainforest to explore right on the border of the Corcovado National Park. In order to arrive, you most take an hour and a half boat ride from Sierpe, or a 15 min boat ride from Drake Bay. The boat leaves Sierpe at 11:20am and Drake Bay at ~12:30am. We have a bar/restaurant on the property with many options on the menus.
We regularly get visits from our resident tapir, monkeys, and many other animals. We offer many tour options like trips to Cano Island which you can see right from your window. We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and spearfish fresh fish right outside our bay for dinners. We offer a bar as well as laundry services.
Our closest neighbors are a 30 minute walk to the north or an hour walk to the south. We have surprisingly close ties to the surrounding community given the remoteness of our location, but do not expect to find a grocery store or an atm nearby. Prepare to unplug and enjoy nature in its purest form!
  • Heavenly place, in a perfect place to disconnect. The activities are managed on site, nothing to predict! Be careful though to be well informed about access to the hotel. I recommend +++

    Ana2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Probably the greatest place in Costa Rica , maybe even the world! Words can't do this place justice. The boat ride there was sooooo much fun (wear sunscreen though my guns got pretty sunburnt). When we arrived, someone was waiting at shore to help us unload and carried our bags to reception. We immediately got checked in and were given a tour of the place and shown our room, and then we were free to enjoy paradise. Tons of hammocks available in the sun and in the shade. The water was great and tons of great beach to enjoy! I'm a wildlife photographer and I was in heaven, toucans and macaws and monkeys that i could literally see from my bedroom window. The chef there was killer as well. 12/10 the best pasta Alfredo I've had in my entire life. Wifi worked and everything else was great, cant say enough good things about this place, I'm already planning on coming back next year.

    Kari2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The manager Bryan was the greatest host and took such good care of all the guests. This is really a paradise and you feel so connected with nature. Strongly recommend this place!

    Emma2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of those unique spots in the world where you automatically will disconnect and relax! The atmosphere is so friendly, open and relaxed and being close to nature in a very simple, rustic environment in relative isolation yet having all essentials and access to great food and friendly staff and other guests, just makes a perfect combination. One of the best travel experiences I had!

    Peder2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, relaxing and peaceful place to stay. We had a fab time

    David2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jungle Del Jaguar was amazing! We spent one week there and had a great experience. We dove two days at Caño Island, spent one day at Corcovado National Park, and we did the extended night hike with Jasner (probably spelled wrong...) (from jungle Del jaguar). All of the activities were arranged by Kimberly and she kept us informed and answered all our questions. The diving was superb, great visibility and we saw a lot! The National Park was also excellent, we saw a lot of wildlife, from small insects to monkeys, tapirs, and anteaters. This is definitely a place you want to stay! You can see and experience so much, even just on their property alone! All of the staff is incredibly friendly and wonderful - shout out to Kimberly, Matt, Lucas, and Jasner! We had a lot of fun getting to know everyone, playing games, fishing, swimming together. We felt like we left having made some new friends :) We really hope to be back one day!

    Bailey2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Being in the jungle away from everything is exactly what I was looking for and this place did just that! lots of wildlife.

    Sachin2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed at Jungla Del Jaguar for four nights and the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. Despite the rainy season, we swam in the ocean everyday before breakfast and sat on the deck sipping coffee and drinking smoothies while looking at the views. We headed to Corcovado national park on our third day and we were lucky to see some sloths, a tapier and the amazing jungle wildlife. Our Jungla Del Jaguar experience was phenomenal and given the option, we would’ve put an additional star. Thank you to the Jungla team for the amazing time and top notch hospitality! Pura Vida!

'Flora & Fauna' extraordinaire! This is a great room for a night or two or maybe three, but for anything longer we suggest you reserve a larger accommodation with us. • Palapa Hut was conveniently located close to center of town, airport, and beach. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean. There was a spacious communal space with wifi, happy hour drinks, and a large communal kitchen. This was the perfect place to stay before leaving for Corcovado!

    Kate2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • You won't find a more knowledgable and friendly host than Andrew!! His great advice and breadth of knowledge of the area was very helpful. The facilities are spotless and in particular we enjoyed the available kitchen facilities and common social area where we met people from several different countries. The monkeys and macaws outside our door made for a true tropical jungle experience, without leaving the property! While this was our first trip to this delightful property, it won't be our last!

    Catherine2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • La Palapa Hut is an amazing place to stay. The ambience of staying is just like spending the night in a forest. The staff is amazingly friendly. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Osa peninsula and/or going to Corcovado national park.

  • This place is exactly as listed, and was the perfect place to stay a few nights before our overnight trip to corcovado. The room is very simple, a bedroom and bathroom, however the gardens and grounds are what make this place special. The amount of wildlife here is incredible, be sure to walk around and explore the area.

  • Thanks, so much, Roger, for making available this lovely home where one can observe and enjoy the exquisite surrounding flora, and the marvelous wildlife, most of whom can almost always be heard, and, many of whom can, quite often, be seen. Mucho divertido! : ) Thanks, too, for not installing any glass windows in the house. Glass windows are much more common on the southern Caribbean coast, and, most unfortunately, they present a real danger for Birds. I have been deeply saddened to witness Birds crash into the windows, sometimes the collision is fatal. I have addressed this issue to the home owners, and hopefully they will employ remedial measures. Solutions are many, simple, and inexpensive. All that’s needed is something visible in/on the windows that lets the Birds know that the otherwise invisible or reflective window is there. Dear Friends, I may be “preaching to the choir” when I say that all the living conscious beings here deserve our utmost respect. Please pay very close attention when walking around the house, and on/off the pathways, trying your best to not step on anyone ..the hardworking Leaf Cutter and other Ants …the Hermit Crabs at the beach …Everyone ..everywhere! Thanks so much & All Very Best Wishes!!! : )

  • Monkeys 'n Mangos really has wild monkeys and mangos, plus flowers and parrots. It's like staying in a private nature reserve. The trails to the beach are beatiful, we were the only people on the beach. House and grounds are very well kept, overall a fantastic experience.

  • This is the most beautiful and incredible place I have visited in Costa Rica in my three trips. Monkey's in the trees Scarlet Macaws, toucans, Parrot's and many bird's I didn't recognize. You walk through pretty gardens to the beach where we never saw a another soul. Beautifully designed house, great place to decompress. Close to town which is small but has all amenities. Roger had some good suggestions for activities, one was the boat tour to see the dolphins and Migrating whales. Love this place.

The Osa Peninsula The Osa Peninsula is considered the most unspoiled and fascinating region of Costa Rica. It has been presented by National Geographic as "The most intense biologically place on earth". It hosts more than 2.5% of the world's biodiversity and many endemic and / or endangered plant and animal species such as the Baird's tapir, the jaguar, the cougar, the ocelot ... and half of the birds visible in Costa Rica . It is mainly forest. The largest tropical rain forest on the Pacific coast. It also hides many unknown archaeological treasures but also gold (one of the purest in the world). Corcovado National Park With 54,000 hectares, it covers a large part of the Osa Peninsula. 8 types of habitat and 13 different ecosystems are listed. It is home to over 15,313 plant species and 500 trees, 140 mammal species, 367 bird species, 117 reptile or amphibian species, 40 fish species and 6,000 different insects ... and the 4 species of primates present in Costa Rica, The Golfo Dulce Commander Cousteau introduced Golfo Dulce as a "tropical fjord". There would be four in the world. It is 51 km long and about 13 km wide. Its maximum depth is about 200 m (10th deepest in the world). On the other hand, the entry of the gulf, less deep, protects it from the strong currents of the Pacific. The absence of industry and / or important urban areas also explains the purity of its water. Finally, the importance of the contribution of the rivers which if spilled explains that the surface water is less salty than that of the ocean. One of the peculiarities of the Gulf is that the tropical rain forest is in direct contact with the sea ... The Gulf is home to two species of dolphins, three species of sea turtles, whale sharks ... Humpback whales come here to "mother" ... Refugio of Vida Silvestre Preciosa Platanares Punta Preciosa is in the heart of the Refugio de Vida Silvestre Preciosa Platanares. A protection zone that links Corcovado National Park with Reserva Golfo Dulce. It consists of jungle, beaches and mangroves. Its goal is the protection of a unique and fascinating ecosystem that is the mangrove. Playa Platanares Preciosa Punta Preciosa is on Playa Platanares, The beach is often deserted and the area in front of Punta Preciosa is perfect for swimming. The beach is a turtle nesting area. Tortugas Preciosas Playa Platanares / Preciosa is an important turtle nesting beach. The latter are in the process of extinction and the nests have many predators (dogs, wild animals and the man who continues to consume the eggs ...) With the local residents, the ministries and the scientists, we have launched a program to protect turtle nests ... We receive volunteers who patrol, locate, geo-locate, list, hide or move if necessary, monitor nests ... and protect small turtles when they reach the ocean. You can participate in night patrols with volunteers .... Puerto Jimenez This typical village is 6 km from Punta Preciosa. It has many restaurants, bars, shops ... but also a post office, banks, ATMs, a clinic, a gas station, a police station, an airport ...
  • Endless parrots, a magnificent wild beach, a large choice of activities ... A little corner of paradise that we recommend!

  • Great getaway. Amazing view of the sunrise. Hosts were great at helping us arrange activities.

  • Chez Pascal is heaven on earth. an incredible location, a sublime beach a few meters away, almost deserted. Magical sunrises and sunsets (the little extra, the dolphins!). around the house, there are lots of animals (monkeys, parrots, sloths, ...) and Manuel, Pascal's sidekick, took the time to show them to us. Pascal and Manuel are very kind, they did everything to make our stay perfect and even better than in our dreams. Very good breakfast with fresh fruit. We will come back with great pleasure !!!

    Fleur2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Pascal’s little slice of paradise is the perfect place to spend a week of jungle bliss. Seriously, it’s the best accommodation in the area by far in my opinion. The location is super secluded in the rainforest, perfectly manicured, and sits right up against the most beautiful private beach. Pascal is also the perfect host. He prepared breakfast and fresh coffee every morning for me and my partner, and provided us helpful tips for activities in the area. Most of all, you’ll love the abundance of wildlife you can view right from the balcony. Just this morning we had a whole family of squirrel monkeys visit the trees right outside our window. What a sight! Staying anywhere else would be a mistake.

    Chris2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What an amazing experience it was to stay at Pascal’s and Manuel’s place. Their airbnb it situated at the end of a road - super private and incredibly gorgeous. The room has no windows - rather it has screens so you can hear the jungle and waves as you wake up and fall asleep every night. It can get a bit hot because it’s so humid so beware! The house itself is beautiful. Everything is custom made from the locals and it’s eco-friendly. Meaning it’s solar powered and has eco-bathrooms. You’ll see beautiful macaws and even monkeys on your balcony! Best of all, they have an adorable dog named Dax who will come swimming with you. Breakfast every morning was our favourite part. We had fresh fruits, cereal, coffee, fruit smoothies, eggs and toasts. The beach is AMAZING and literally right at the doorsteps. It is your own private paradise, there are hammocks and chairs for you to enjoy but there are sand fleas so beware! The most memorable part of our trip was releasing baby turtles into the ocean. This is Manuel’s NGO and it was such a beautiful moment to be a part of. We would recommend having a car here as it’s about as remote as it gets. It’s about an hour walk into town. But once you’re there, there are a lot of delicious sodas around. This was a life-changing trip! Thank you to Pascal and Manuel for their hospitality.

  • As close to paradise as you can get. Located at the entrance of Golfo Dulce (you'll see dolphins coming by each day and during certain months even whales), between a practically deserted strip of tropical beach in the front and mangrove forests as your back yard, you'll find this charming place where you can get away from it all. Pascal and Manuel are very attentive hosts, with great knowledge of the area and flora&fauna. They will advice you where to go and what to do. The house has been wonderfully rebuilt, with beautiful wooden structures and details. It is not too close to town (Puerto Jiménez) so a private car would be handy but I managed to sort it out with taxis, a hitch-hike here and there and refreshing walks along the beach to the nearby restaurants. So if you are looking for tranquility and spending some relaxing days; this is definitely the place to go to. Highly recommended!

  • We spent two nights in Royer & Flor's cabine, it was amazing ! The place is clean, surronded by nature and very cosy. It's ideal for a couple and we higly recommend ! They arranged a guided tour in corcovado for us, we spent the day with Hannia (Flor's sister) and it was really great !

    Martin2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This was the best chapter of our whole trip. Royer's place, knowledge, and family is so wonderful and made our time in Osa so special. They are guides and have so much to share about beautiful places in the region, and even the property itself is a testament to that knowledge and care. Royer showed us tree frogs in the yard, pulled up yuca and ginger from his garden for us to eat, told us about some incredible hikes we took ourselves and even gave us wildlife spotting tips. The little pool in back is as wonderful as it looks, and waking up in the warm glow of that bedroom is a dream. We loved cooking on the porch, the layout is fantastic and really makes you appreciate the natural beauty of the property. Would stay here a million times over.

    Asha2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Royer and Flor went above and beyond as hosts. They are super hospitable and proud to share their knowledge as local tour guides. The cabin is one of the most unique stays we’ve ever experienced - sparkling clean and comfortable, even though it’s right there in the jungle. Puerto Jimenez is a short drive away (though I’m very glad we had a car), and I highly recommend booking a Corcovado tour with Royer and Flor’s company, Ficus tours.

    Alec2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Royer and Flor was everything we could’ve wished for and more! The “Dreamhouse” they built next to their own property is a little paradise. The cabin itself is very beautiful and has everything you need (small kitchen to cook etc. and a beautiful outside shower&pool) - just as pictured and of course very clean. But what makes this space really special is the wonderful jungle-like garden and of course the families’ hospitality. Royer, Flor and their two children took really good care of us and made us feel like home. Royer’s passion for nature and his knowledge about the area is contagious. We also booked a tour with their company Ficus Tours and spent one day in Corcovado with Royer which is just the best thing you can do! As mentioned above Royer is so passionate and therefore able to show and tell you so much about the area, nature etc. Apart from that, communication and check-in were really easy as Royer and Flor were always available when you needed them. We wish we could’ve stayed longer and hope to return soon!

    Lucía2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Flor, Royer and their children have been splendid. The House is wonderful, new, clean and with everything you need to bathe and cook. Royer and Flor have always been available, advising us and giving us information about buses, the park, taxis, etc. but at the same time we had the house for us and enjoy our privacy in the green of nature.

    Anita2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night at the residence. The owners we're very helpful and friendly! Even after Royer had taken a hike through Corcovado as a guide that same day, he came to us in the evening to try to spot frogs! They really helped us out when we were struggling with our already booked tour through another tour agency. They are very concerned about you. Also the house is really clean and the back is nicely designed!

    Carlijn2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was great, the cabin is located in the garden but it is hidden and very very well appointed. The bathroom and the kitchen are simply at the top. The accommodation is atypical, pleasant, and above all perfectly clean. I recommend !

In the primary rainforest (7.5 ha) we have built some housing with a producing farm. In the immediate vicinity of your accommodation you can watch monkeys, birds, sloths, butterflies, frogs, etc. or swim in the nearby Pacific Ocean (200 m). Take advantage of our kitchen or relax in our lounge, here you can go on vacation! Restaurants, supermarkets and bars can be found in the immediate vicinity in the city center (50 m). We are happy to help with the booking of all kind of excursions.
The Pejibaye Cabin is located on the edge of our tropical garden and is half open to the jungle, with only a beautifully designed patio bordering this property. Here you are right in the jungle! In the upper part there is a bunk bed, in the lower one single bed. All beds have mosquito nets and mattress protectors. Under the cabin are 2 large, lockable wooden boxes for your luggage. The bathrooms and the hot showers are located in the bathhouse about 20 meters away.
Our immediate neighborhood is the primary rainforest. Drake Bay is the starting point for all tours to Corcovado National Park or Biosphere Reserve Caño Island. Hiking, snorkeling and diving are the attractions or activities here. You can rent a kayak or make an organized tour to a waterfall or a horse brings you there. You can fly through the canopy or walk by yourself to a beautiful beach, in Drake Bay are countless things to do. The restaurant for your breakfast is 5 min. walk away, right on the beach. There are also supermarkets, bars, an ice cream shop and other restaurants. We have NO BANK OR ATM, please bring cash with you, it is not everywhere possible to pay with credit card.
  • We absolutely loved our stay here! Olman was incredibly friendly, present and helpful answering our many questions about various tours and other free activities around the area. Our two walled bungalow abutting the jungle was incredible to sleep in surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. The outdoor kitchen was equally wonderful and well equipped, we cooked some fantastic meals there and had a great time eating and socializing in the common area. 10/10, would definitely stay there again, it really made out visit to Drake Bay memorable more than any tour our beach.

  • A place like no other on earth! We got into perfect harmony with nature here. It was fantastic

  • My experience was excellent. I stayed at a different hotel (for almost twice the price) my first night in Drake Bay and was so worried and disappointed by the amount of construction and street noise and I left asap. Then I came to mohagane and it was exactly what I was looking for and more! I originally booked for two nights, but within an hour or so, I could see that this was the place for me, so i booked another 2 nights. I am an avid camper and loved the open air concept to the rooms and kitchen. It is very much like camping in the jungle, but still very comfortable. Also, they have a community space which is very welcoming and accommodating to meeting people without being awkward or obligatory. You can save money by cooking for yourself and they provide many basic spices, dishes, etc. The staff is extremely friendly and easy to be around, and they will help you with planning trips, but no pressure. I went snorkling and did the corvocado park tour and both were excellent and a great value for the money. But i saw lots of small wildlife on the property! Can't say enough good things about the place. Highly recommended!

Our beautiful garden cabin is right near the beach front, and gives you an impressive view of the sunrise over the ocean. The calming sound of the waves along with the noises of the jungle at night ensure that you have a great night's sleep. A prime location only 30 seconds walk from the untouched, pristine beach, as well as being within the jungle, this property is popular with all kinds of wildlife. Although we say no events or parties, we sometimes have bonfires on the beach.
This cabin offers impressive views of the beach, Playa Platanares as well as a beautiful night sky, unblemished by light pollution due to the rural location. The solid hardwood bed and comfy mattress promise a great night's sleep, and the covered balcony with chairs and table provides a relaxing area for you to take some time out. The cabin also has a light and electrical sockets for when you need to log back in to the real world, and wifi is available at the main house.
We are 15 minutes taxi journey away from the local town of Puerto Jimenez, which has everything you need - large supermarket, restaurants, cafes, beach bars, pharmacies and gift shops. In the immediate area, we have two lovely hotels from where you can have a drink, a meal, and use the pool (for a small fee) - though you may prefer to swim in the sea as it is right on your doorstep! There are many things to do around the area, and we are more than happy to help you plan activities to make the most of your stay on the Osa Peninsula. Activities include: kayaking in the mangroves, fishing, surfing, nature hikes into Corcovado National Park, boat tours for whale and dolphin spotting, snorkeling, chocolate tours, canopy tours, crocodile watching, and horseback riding.
  • It was nice to get away from the public and stay at waleskas place. So close to the beach. A very pleasant person to talk to and cooks a very good breakfast.

    Dean2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The reviews are true...Waleska's place was by far the most wonderful AirBnb experience we've ever had (and we travel a LOT!)...we stayed for 6 nights in the platform tents and fell in love with Playa Preciosa, the sound of the water on the shore in the morning and at night, the howler monkeys and vast symphony of birds (endless Scarlet Mcaws!) that would lull us from our sleep at dawn was so amazing...we didn't rent a car so we stayed on the property and within walking distance to it for the whole time and it was SO GREAT and could have stayed there for MUCH longer than 6 nights and been totally happy. The beautiful, sandy beach with amazingly warm water was nearly empty; we could walk for almost 1.5 hrs along the shore and see maybe 4 other people, (sunrises and sunsets were our favorites times as we were there in Feb when it was quite hot mid-day)...there is a nearby Sea Turtle reserve and we were lucky enough to be able to witness 3 sunrise baby sea turtle releases on the very beach where we stayed...priceless...the breakfasts that Waleska prepares are divine with fruit from her own garden/trees and the delicious gallo pinto..she is such a kind and grounded individual and we loved getting to know her. It felt like super-fancy camping for us with a fan in the tent as well as electricity, nice little reading lights on nightstands next to the comfy bed. The tent was so thoughtfully laid out and we loved to sit on the porch and watch the birds and write about the beautiful scenes all around us... the kindest-ever night watchman Joaquin is an amazing self-taught naturalist who helped point out nighttime critters of lizards, frogs, iguanas and we even got to see a hummingbird nest that he found as well! It was hard to leave there, and I wish we could go back, and we definitely will one day! If you are staying in a tent and you don't have a kitchen I would recommend bringing some afternoon snacks (she can possibly offer to give you a cooler to keep ants out) so you don't have to go to the nearby restaurants for every meal. If Waleska is able to prepare you a dinner as well, definitely take her up on the offer, she is an amazing chef and prepares delicious and healthy meals! We stayed in 4 different places on our trip through Costa Rica and this was by FAR our favorite stop. Thank you, Waleska for sharing your slice of paradise with us. (Note on nearby food: best food/bang for your buck is the pizza at Agua Dulce. The Iguana Lodge is a bit more inviting/better quality food but more expensive.)

  • Waleska’s place is great value in an off the beaten path area outside of Puerto Jimenez. We stayed in one of the tent cabins within a few hundred feet of an amazing beach. There were so few people on the beach it felt like our own private beach. The tent cabin itself was very well constructed and included electricity and a fan which was much appreciated as this part of Costa Rica is quite humid. We were assigned a private toilet and shower located in a separate building a short walk from the tent. Everything was very clean. Waleska was a terrific host. She made us a wonderful breakfast each morning and helped with arranging a tour of the area. For anyone interested in trying “Glamping”, this is a great way to go. An excellent value.

  • Great place, we had booked the cabin at the closest to the beach! It feels like a cabin with all the comfort of a room! Rocked to the sound of waves! Huge and deserted beach! A stopover is essential if you want to rest! We took the breakfast option! Very rich! thank you for everything

  • This place is just amazing. As close as you can get to the beach and the tent was much better than expected. We loved the fact it was the only place in Costa Rica we were able to keep all the bugs out because you can zip everything up. It also has power to run a fan that was all we need to stay cool. We were assigned our own personal bathroom and shower and were cooked a wonderful breakfast every morning. Waleska is very kind and was the pioneer to inhabit this area of the beach way back when. She gave us amazing recommendations and set us up with the best tour guide we had on our entire trip. Can't recommend this place enough!

    Clint2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Best accommodation for the trip. Fresh, good and generous breakfast. The location facing a deserted beach is ideal. I highly recommend.

    Nicolas2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Waleska's place is an oasis on the beach. Daily flyovers by Scarlet Macaws and many other bird species on the dirt road. Delicious breakfast with lots of fresh fruit.

Casa Oceanside is a cute little concrete beach bungalow about 80 meters from the sand. The propery is a 900 sqm tropical garden with a variety of wildlife, that can be seen daily. The waves that break in front of our house are perfect for beginners.
Casa „Oceanside“ was designed with love and function in mind. Cool and open during the hot summer months, but dry and cozy once the rain hits. The two storied concrete bungalow, perfectly tucked away in a lush tropical two acre garden teeming with wildlife can be, whatever you want it to be: A „surfer´s private refuge“, a „birdwatcher´s colourful paradise“, a „quiet girlie getaway“, a „honeymooner´s romantic hideout“ or a „wildlife enthusiast´s research base“. The house sleeps two persons comfortable (kingsize bed), or three at the most (additional sofa). Steps away from Playa Sombrero in the Matapalo Area, Casa „Oceanside“ offers everything you need for a lifetime experience along the jungles of the the prestine Osa Peninsula. Being so far off the grid, we work with solar power around here. Our panels provide enough energy to power the lights, a refrigerator to keep your drinks cool and your veggies fresh, your laptop and also your Smartphone. Our fresh water source is a deep well. The water gets pumped via a 12v solar pump into the tank ontop of a tower and flows back by gravity into the house. Our water has been tested by a labratory in New York and is 100% drinkable and good for cooking. The fully equipped kitchen comes with all amenities, pots, pans, cuttlery and towels, a 4 range gas-stove, a Daywoo fridge with freezing compartement and a breakfast countertop for 2 persons. The storage room that houses the solar batteries and the inverter (converting 12 volt solar power to 110v) also has a security safe for all your valuables such as credit cards, passports, cash money or cameras/phones. The internet out here is weak and patience is key. The Café "Monka" in Puerto Jimenez provides a fast wireless connection. A spacious living area with two sofas borders the office space with a big office table, bookshelf with plenty of reading material in german, spanish and english and a reading sofa/day bed combo, that can easily serve as a third bed. The bathroom provides towels, hot water shower, hot water sink and a toilet and was just redone with a very stylish slate floor. Upstairs you will find the masterbedroom with a huge kingsize bed and a super comfy new matress. A tight mashed mosquito net will help to keep insects out during the wet months (July to December). From January until June, you could easily sleep without the net. The Masterbedroom is surrounded by terraces. The roofs of the bathroom and the office also serve as hangout platforms. A big sundeck with two hammocks and wooden chairs plus table are perfect for that sundown cocktail while you watch howler monkeys up close, crazy squirrel monkeys swiftly leaping great distances from branch to branch, pairs of Scarlett Macaws flying overhead and hummingbirds buzzing close to your head. If you are lucky you will see an anteater strolling through the garden or a coati (pizote) checking for something to eat in the tropical bush. From the office roof, you can climb onto the roof of the bedroom via a comfortable ladder and gaze at the starts at night. During the summer months it is highly recommendable to throw some pillows up onto the roof and lie there for hours with a cool drink in hand, watching shooting stars, or checking the always visible Orion constellation, the beautiful Pleiades or the southern Zodiac signs. Nothing short of miraculous. „National Geographic“ once described the Osa Peninsula as „one of the world´s biologically most intense places on earth.“ Once here, you will quickly find out why. A hobby-birdwatcher from Minnesota recently counted 137 different species of birds on our property alone. Add the Otters, playing in our clear water river, that runs through the property (May through December only), the occasional Sloth, Armadillos, Caimans, Turtles, Toucans, Aracaris, Monkeys, Anteaters, Iguanas or the Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphins and Whales and you will get an idea. As for activities, they are almost too numerous to mention: Perfect Longboard- and easy learning waves for surfing, roll in right infront of the house. We run a small but exquisite surf school business off Playa Sombrero and always have plenty of rental boards to chose from. Grab a board, walk 80 yards to the beach at hightide and enjoy the waves with only you and a few other friendly surfers in the line-up. For the more experienced surfer, (almost) world class waves can be found in the close vicinity. Also: sea kayaking, SUP paddling, swimming, snorkeling, boogieboarding, sport fishing and boat trips are all possible. We can assist you with your trip into the Corcovado National Park too. Tidepools are waiting a 10 minute walk down the beach. Treeclimbing, jungle hikes, waterfall repelling, horseback riding, bird watching, yoga classes, massages, or just long walks along the wild and empty beaches without ever meeting another soul will make your stay a remarkable memory. Bring sandals, the sand gets very hot. During your stay, there will be property managment nearby. If you have questions, just ask. Rental Car assitance, medical attention, shopping in Puerto Jimenez, trip booking etc... We will be more than happy to help. Pura Vida Michelle & Eddy
Playa Sombrero, Carbonera and Cabo Matapalo is a small stretch of isolated and lonely beaches with a string of houses, tucked away in the bushes. Nice people and friendly neighbors that know each other for years, look out for one another and help each other.
  • Although our expectations were pretty high (due to the provided pictures and reviews), we were simply overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. Its without any doubt a piece of paradise, you have so much space for yourself in between the jungle and the sea - amazing! Our recommendation: Don't plan too much daytrips for your stay at the Osa Peninsula. The house, the garden and especially the beach are more beautiful (and private) than you can imagine. And the two hosts Eddie and Michelle are lovely! We loved it, and although we had a couple of issues with insects, bugs etc (well thats jungle..), we'd come back as often as possible. I promise, nobody will ever regret to stay at Eddie's and Michelle's Casa Oceanside.

    Nadine2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We just couldn't stay away! This was our second stay at Casa Oceanside and probably not our last :) We had a wonderful time in Eddy and Michelle's hidden gem in the beautiful paradise that is Costa Rica. Eddy and Michelle welcomed us like old friends, they could not be more accomodating and friendly. They know the area very well and have plenty of tips of what to do to make the stay very enjoyable. The lush garden and amazing wildlife are only topped by the spectacular views on the jungle and ocean. We highly recommend staying in Casa Oceanside, it's the best place to slow down, relax and connect with nature. Thanks again for creating life long memories. Until next time :)

    Nathalie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a dream, the property is lush with wildlife, and the surf is perfect and right at your fingertips. Michelle and Eddy could hardly be more gracious hosts, we enjoyed every minute of this remote getaway.

    Joe2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a week! Michelle & Eddy's home is in the middle of the beautiful jungle and just off the beach. Drop the phone & internet reliance and plan your days around the sun and the moon. We did an amazing day trip to Corcovado through Osa Wild, surfed-hammocked-swam on the nearby beaches almost entirely by ourselves (recommend Backwash for a swim), and lounged in some of the area hotel pools if we wanted a margarita. You'll want a 4x4 to get around. We cooked most of our meals at home and you'll want to stock up on groceries on your way in ~25 minutes away in Puerto Jimenez. Michelle and Eddy are amazing and can help you with pretty much anything you would want.

    Michael2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a sweet place to stay by the beach in the jungle, with many outdoor spaces to watch the incredible natural scene, and a one-minute stroll to the perfect spot to learn to surf. Eddy is a very nice, helpful guy and wonderful surfing instructor. (Michelle was away during our stay, so we did not get to meet her this time.) This place is ideal for experiencing the best of the Osa Peninsula -- just be prepared for the heat!

    Frances2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Eddy is a great host, one of the best we've had from many trips on Airbnb. He's very communicative before you show up, and he is just a friendly, cool dude when you're there. He really makes himself available to help/offer advice. And he's been in the area so long, he pretty much knows everyone nearby. The grounds of the property are beautiful; you should see multiple types of monkeys, scarlet macaws, and toucans every day. We also saw some amazing spiders, a coati, and a cayman on their property as well. The house is private, even though Eddy stays 80 yards or so away. He really tries to give you maximum privacy. It comes with a full kitchen; we cooked every meal while we were here. It's located right in front of a long beach. The beach is mostly rocky; you have to walk a couple kilometers over some rocky terrain to reach sandy beaches. The beach in front of the house is a great place to learn to surf, and Eddy can rent you everything you need and even provide lessons. It's lovely to go to bed and wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. We didn't have a car, and we wouldn't recommend renting their place for a long time without one. That's not a neg on their house, it's just in a fairly remote area, and the beach right in front of the house is great for surfing, but not optimal for chilling. The only negatives are we only had a few seconds of hot water the week we were there, and the power went out every night, so we had some food spoil on us, which wasn't convenient to replace since we didn't have a car. We always felt totally safe here.

    Billy2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Eddy is a fantastic host. The house is right in front of a sweet longboard break. Highly recommended!

    Ivan2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Monkeys in the yard, macaws in all the trees; this is a nature lovers perfect getaway house. The wifi is spotty and the place is off the grid, which is perfect for unwinding.

  • Hotel Bella Vista really lived up to its name! Each morning and evening you get to experience a brilliant view of ocean waters and foliage canopies while eating in their attached restaurant. They were even able to accommodate our vegan / vegetarian diet with some of the best tostones in Costa Rica! The rooms are spacious and clean, had electricity, fans, and a nice shower. The hotel is a couple minutes walk from an incredibly beautiful beach. The hosts were really helpful and friendly. They were even able to make the calls to arrange our tour of Corcovado. Definitely a great place to stay!

    Victoria2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Hotel Bella Vista was wonderful!! The room was really nice and the trip was made even better by the onsite restaurant and the wonderful staff there (Willy and his staff). The food and the views from the restaurant were truly awesome!! I have to come to Costa Rica 22 times now...… and I WILL be back to visit Hotel Bella Vista again!!

    Billy2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Olga’s place has everything we are longing for Costa Rica. You have the open ocean view from the dinning area. Walking distance to the jungle trail. As well as the prefect quite rincon beach...the food is amazing! Olga makes the best desert you can find in this country. And we keep ordering the same fish fillet b/c it is just too good to try a different dish... we have a wonderful stay at here. All the stuff are super warm and helpful. They are just like your family. Highly recommend!!!

    Sissia2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing time at Olgas place. Her and William made us feel very much at home and even catered for our vegetarian and vegan diets. They were extremely helpful with whatever we needed and nothing was a problem. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable and is located in quite a remote area away from the hustle and bustle of Drake Bay, which is perfect if want to immerse yourself in the nature that completely surrounds you. The mostly deserted beach is just across road, you can take walks into the jungle, horse rides along the beach or simply relax in the hammock. One thing to note is that there are no ATM's or banks that accept foreign cards in Drake Bay so best come prepared with cash for transport etc. This is definitely a gem hidden away in the Osa Peninsula. Can highly recommend!!!

    Susie2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Spartan and welcoming environment, excellent place to isolate yourself from everything, kindness and discretion. We recommend it

    Giulia2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful encounter in Bella Vista, a little corner of paradise lost at the end of the road, 100% family, far from tourist circuits. high quality local cuisine with Olga and Maria who love to cook and please visitors. 4x4 preferably with the rivers to be crossed. Lots of animals nearby, parrots and toucans, tapir, ranas, monkeys ... with a breathtaking view of the sunset at the top of the viewpoint. Please take care of this address so that it remains that of the first days ...

Looking for a house where you can experience to live in the nature of the Osa Peninsula in a small Costa Rican neighbourhood? Then is this the place for you! The Osa Corcovado jungle house is located in a quiete and save neighbourhood close to the centre of Puerto Jiménez. In the nature around the house you can oftenly find wild animals! My family and I will be your neighbours and we love to help you with everything you need!
We have a warm water shower and a removable fan!
The neigborhood where the house is located is called ''El Bambú''. It's very quiet and save and it's full of nature! Often there are wild animals to find in the garden, like monkeys, Scarlet Macaws and more!
  • Hosts are incredibly nice, above the average really. Ask them also to show you the pet crocs who live in the backyard pond... The place is rustic, not posh at all, but it's part of a real costarican adventure in contact with nature. I was perplexed at the beginning, then loved it.

    Emanuele2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Nice house as in the description, just minutes from Puerto Jimenez The family is adorable and attentive Very pleasant stay

    Aurelie2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • My stay was very pleasant, even though the host was not there, the family welcomed us and attended excellent. There were problems with the tv cable and they immediately solved the problem. The only drawback is at night there is no privacy as there are no curtains and clearly seen through.

  • We had a nice time in Anthony’s jungle house. The location is great and we even met a really pretty frog in our house. Would definitely recommend!

  • Really lovely family and little place to stay in Puerto Jimenez. They were always available to answer questions and it was a very quiet and cute place to sleep!

    Hannah2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We use Anthony's place as a base during our stay in Puerto Jiminez. Anthony was the perfect host. He picked us up from the airport and dropped us back. He gave us lots of local info. The guide he suggested for our trip to Corcovado was outstanding. Similarly the guide he suggested for our trip to Matapalo was also very good. Anthony went above and beyond to help us and to make our stay comfortable; although he was super busy, he drove me into town to pick up dinner because it was raining.

    Vishwanathan2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Well equipped kitchen and quiet location. Good stop to come to Corcovado National Park.

    Nina2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We are really happy that we chose to stay in Anthony´s bnb, it was clean and spacious and we very felt welcome there. His family live close by and they gave us lots of good advice about the national park, they were really kind to us as soon as we arrived, even loaned me shampoo and cooked a tasty banana pancake! We had access to two bikes to use which made our trip really fun. Thanks again, we recommend it.

Bahia Drake, Peninsula de Osa, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica

La Casita del Rio is situated right next to the Rio Tigre close to the center of Dos Brazos so there are neighbors but as well surrounded by lush secondary growth rainforest, with sounds of exotic birds and howler monkeys in the distance. With uncrowded nature trails, waterfalls, jungle scenery, this is the perfect location for exploring Corcovado National Park and the Osa Peninsula. Off the beaten track, yet only 12 km/7.5 miles from Puerto Jimenez and beautiful beaches.
La Casita del Rio is located in the Osa Peninsula, southwest Costa Rica where the rainforest meets the sea. It is one of the most remote, most spectacular and wildest regions in the country. One of the last places in Costa Rica to be settled, it has been dubbed Costa Rica's last wilderness frontier. Rich in wildlife, sparsely populated and until recently very difficult to access by road. Consequently much of the peninsula is still covered in majestic, pristine rainforest. Dominated by Corcovado National Park which protects most of the peninsula, the Osa supports more than fifty percent of the animal and plant species that live in Costa Rica. National Geographic has described the Osa as, "The most biologically intense place on earth".
Dos Brazos is a town with a rich history and an even more prosperous future. Not more than 40 years ago, gold, and lots of it, was Dos Brazos claim to fame. People came from everywhere to work for the gold mining companies back then. After the companies left some decided to stay and Dos Brazos de Rio Tigre was born. Today Dos Brazos is a sleepy little town of just 300 inhabitants that lies in the richest location you can imagine, right at the border of the world famous Corcovado National Park. Although gold mining is still practiced, the wealth is in the amazing diversity of flora and fauna and wild life. In fact Corcovado is thought to be one of the most biologically intense and pristine places in the world! It’s a small oasis of civilization, surrounded by the jungle of the forest reserve that encompasses Corcovado. Although it’s a short 12-kilometer ride from the beautiful Pacific beaches of Puerto Jimenez, and just a little further from great wave riding in Matapalo, it’s a town that is barely known on the tourist circuit. From Dos Brazos you’ll find extensive walking trails into the jungle, with many waterfalls to see, world class birding, horseback riding, gold mining tours, and more are all available. So get off the beaten path, and make your way to Dos Brazos del Rio Tigre!
  • I had a great time staying at the cabaña and enjoying the beautiful nature of Corcovado. The tropical rainforest is very impressive. I had some wonderful nature-experiences, walking the Bolita-trails, hiking the Leona-trail along the Pacific coast, doing a bird & night tour, and enjoying sunset and bioluminescence at the Golfo Dulce. Except the Bolita-trails (which I preferred to do on my own), all my tours were accompanied by guides. Tristan is an excellent host. He gave me a warm welcome, I could rely on him for organizing the tours and excellent guides.

    Marcel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our experience with Tristan was unforgettable. His home is clean, and has all the amenities you need. It is located in a fantastic spot for people who is looking for being in contact with nature and wildlife. He is a great host and gives you many advices and recommendations. Thank you very much Tristan.

  • If you want adventure and relaxation then this is the spot! The space and location were absolutely perfect and exceeded our expectations. The house is located in an amazing little village in one of the last truly wild places in the world! We saw new species daily all from our hammocks. There is a family of scarlet macaws, a troop of monkeys and a giant iguana that would "visit" us daily. We even had a toucan that would visit one of the banana trees 10 feet from your kitchen window. There were amazing trails through primary and secondary rainforest, a river to cool off in and some of the most beautiful beaches within 30-45 minutes. This is truly a special place! The house is absolutely beautiful! It had everything we needed to be comfortable during our stay. My boyfriend loved the shower and the patio was a perfect spot to practice yoga in nature every morning! Tristan is hands down the best host I've ever had with Airbnb! He was so welcoming and friendly and had tons of information on the area plus he will help you book any tour you might be interested in. His communication was prompt, super friendly and thorough! If you're looking for the true Costa Rican experience than this is it! You won't do any better!

  • Airbnb should create a new category for star hosts like Tristan, above super hosts. Tristan took the time to explain everything we could want to know, went above and beyond on every aspects and even helped us plan the rest of our trip in different places. Book it!

  • Perfect place to relax for some days in the nature. You can do different hikes around dos brazos and spot a lot of different animals. The house is very nice and cute and has a kitchen with everything you need. Tristan was very helpful and a super nice host! Thx for this nice stay

  • I absolutely love this little casita! It is by far my favourite place to stay in CR. Laid back, quiet little town with lots of trails to hike and things to see. I’ve checked out other locations in Osa, but nothing comes close to this.

    Thomas2019-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Tristan’s house is located in the quiet town of Dos Brazos. You will be surrounded with lush green jungle, many birds, iguanas, monkeys and more. The house itself is charming and cosy. Everything you need is there. We had a fantastic time, Tristan made sure we took some amazing trips as he has a great network of guides and friends locally. If you are looking for a jungle getaway, look no further. It doesn’t get much better than this.

    Laurens2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very nice, cozy and comfy. Every thing you need is in the house. The hammocks have been great for locking at the flying macaws, iguanas etc. Tristan was very informative. He booked us also a guide for a night walk. It's a 30 min drive to Puerto Jimenez. We enjoyed our stay very much. But it was also very hot and humid.

Located directly at the beach Playa Platanares, only 6km east of Puerto Jimenez. It is one of the best beaches on the Osa Peninsula, still natural, remote, lonely, with dark sand, palm trees and beach almond trees, which attract a lot of scarlet macaws. Each beach house has an open kitchen, a living area and bathroom on the ground floor, and a bedroom on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the garden. Fresh water is pumped straight from our on site well.
A prime location only 30 seconds walk from the untouched, pristine beach, as well as being within the Costa Rican jungle, this property is popular with all kinds of wildlife. Regular visitors include howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, hawks, as well as resident crabs, frogs, iguanas, geckos and more! We are also right next to a popular nesting beach for four different types of sea turtles. Although we say no events or parties, we sometimes have bonfires on the beach.
  • Waleska's Place is our happy place! We had a great but unfortunately too short time at Waleska. If you are looking for peace in a lovingly landscaped garden by the sea (we had the beach to ourselves), this is the place for you. The bungalows are a little out of the way and almost in the middle of the jungle with the associated background noise;). If you spend the night there, you should definitely have dinner there, Waleska is a great cook and self-catering, and Phillip pulled the fish out of the sea almost before dinner. We were also provided with great tips, if you want to plan a great tour, Waleska should ask about Roger :). We gladly accepted the somewhat bumpy approach for a deserted beach and pure nature. We hope that we will once again end up in this great place.

  • Very nice and natural place between jungle and sea. Beautiful beaches just 1 min to go and jump in after wake up 😍 If you have luck you can experience the wonder of turtle life and leave babys into the ocean. It‘s a bit remote but perfect to come down. There are a lot of animal sounds. Waleska speak german, english and spanisch and is very helpful. I recomment it 👌🏼

  • Really nice place to stay like a real Holliday ! You have your own kitchen in the bungalow and really lovely place with charm. Between flowers and animals you would love Waleska place for sure !

  • Our stay at Waleska’s was very good. We had a very nice cottage at the back of her resort. The cottage was straight forward, well equipped and we had plenty of space inside and outside. The bed was very comfortable and the whole cottage was clean. It had everything to cook, but we only had breakfast outside which was idyllic. Plenty of birds to see and hear in the morning and evening. On one evening we were able to eat at Waleska’s place and this was really a treat, fresh fish out of the sea and 90 minutes later on our plate, the tasty salad and vegetables made everything perfect. Waleska booked a fantastic tour which was organised by Ficus Tours and we enjoyed a great time with Luis. We really enjoyed this part of Osa Peninsula as there are very little tourists. The sea can be sometimes rough but most of the time it wasn’t a problem to go swimming.

  • This bnb was just our kind of stay! Nature, quiet nights and sunrises, close enough to town and right on the beach.

  • Beautiful place right by the beach while in a beautiful garden. You wake up in the morning with the sound of nature. Parrots, monkeys, toucans. Mrs. home is pleasant and helpful in everything. I definitely recommend this place to all. I'd like to come back here again.

    Drake Bay, Costa Rica

Cabinas Palmera is situated in Rincón San Josesito, bordering on the Corcovado National Park. Experience intense biodiversity at your doorstep-daily sightings of monkeys, macaws and a dizzying array of flowers, plants and creatures endemic to the Osa
Rincón offers visitors a relaxed ambience, plenty of walking trails and local tours in the pristine tropical rainforest. Removed from the hustle and bustle of Drake Bay, you have the beach to yourself. Marvelous sunsets await.
Rincon beach is a very pleasant place.we have about 30 people. the village consists of 4 families. we have a school that only 5 children enjoy this service. the super market is only 15 minutes by taxi or motorcycle. is a remote place in which we are surrounded by many natural beauties.
  • The whole stay at Jonnys was amazing! The Cabins are super nice, big rooms, cozy beds and the location is awesome. You wake up to the beautiful singing of tropical birds and the sounds of waves clashing from the beach. The beach is also really beautiful. The food in the restaurant "Amaya" which is super close to the Cabins has delicious food and they have great vegan and vegetarian options if you ask them. We can highly recommend this place. Jonny is a super friendly and supportive host and the whole staff of this Family business is doing a great job.

    Steffen2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A huge wow. For everything. Sunsets on the Pacific, scarlet macaws and monkeys around you. The room was big and clean. Johnny and his family were helpful and always smiling. The food is great too. Hard to come back to reality after two days there.

  • The stay with Jonny was very, very nice. He took good care of me, from picking up on the beach to organizing the return trip. Jonny made several suggestions for what I could do, completely unobtrusively and in a very friendly way. Unfortunately, I couldn't talk to his family because I don't speak Spanish. But they were also very friendly. The place itself is beautiful. I got tips from Jonny for beautiful beaches and excursions My cabania was very generous. Sockets were everywhere. The bathroom area was also very spacious. Everything was spotless. Internet access was possible in the bar area. Too bad that I only booked 3 nights and extension was not possible. Next time I will definitely stay a whole week. Man and nature are unique there.

    Brigitte2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nice hut right next to a really fantastic almost lonely beach! We came by car (you definitely need four-wheel drive). From the parking lot you walk about 7-10 minutes on stairs to the accommodation. Everything in the accommodation was clean! Jonny went out of his way to have a nice stay. Took a lot of time to talk to us and give us tips. For us the most beautiful beach we have been on! Gracias Jonny!

    Max2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent attention very attentive in everything

    Douglas2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • It is simply paradise. So certainly the cabinas are very simple, but the cleaning is done every day, they are functional, the meals are great, and the general atmosphere very pleasant. Jonny is very responsive and takes care of the people he receives, he organized excursions to Corcovado park and to Ilsa del Cano, it was great. Finally, the beach and the environment is simply exceptional, the beach is almost deserted, the sunset is magnificent, and the fauna and flora omnipresent: while walking in the cabinas and on the beach we saw Macaws red, a Toucan, lots of monkeys, hummingbirds and even a Tapir a few meters from the accommodation, it was great. I highly recommend anyone looking for adventure and nature lovers.

    Louis2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Without a doubt our best experience in Costa Rica. The truth is that we were thinking of not putting a review so that this beautiful place did not become very popular, but I think it would not be fair. Playa Rincon has become one of our favorite destinations in the world. It is a magical place, one of those few authentic, wild and well-kept places left on the planet. Everything is spectacular. We saw whales, dolphins, monkeys, turtles, tapir, sharks, macaws and endless animals. From the terrace of Jonny's cabin you can see white-faced monkeys playing in the trees and lots of colorful tropical birds. While on the beach we saw hundreds of turtles coming out of their eggs and walking for the first time to the ocean. In addition, almost every night a tapir (giant anteater) visits the area. A true wonder Jonny is the best possible host. He organized all the excursions and made sure we had a perfect stay. There is a bar where you can have beers or delicious cocktails and also a restaurant that takes Jonny's family where they prepare an excellent meal. Anyway, the best of the best. We will definitely return but next time we will stay longer. 200% recommended. I want to thank Jonny and his whole family for their hospitality and for keeping this paradise so clean, so well preserved and so magical. Pure Life!!

    Julio2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We spent four days in Jonny's bungalows with our three children. A real place to relax. The road from Rincon to Bahia Drake, San Josecito is a real adventure! But it is worth taking this on! Jonny has been waiting for us at the gate on the street and accompanies us through the beautiful area to the bungalows. He is very hospitable and warm. The whole area is just paradisiacally beautiful and the people who live there are very friendly. There were hardly any other tourists on site. The bungalow is located a few meters from the sea, surrounded by the jungle. Both create a unique, magical mood. We saw macaws, toucans, monkeys every day and the tapir comes right past our bungalow in the evening. It is a unique, beautiful place in Costa Rica.

Private, 2013 built cabina, fully equipped with kitchen and all amenities needed for self sufficiency. Hot water throughout, free wifi, covered porch, grassy yard and steps to a nice sand beach with boogey boarding waves, 20 minute walk to town. Fresh-water creek perfect for rinsing off salt water and safe for small children to splash around and enjoy.
Private, 2013 built cabin with covered porch and sunset view of the Pacific. Hot water shower, full kitchen including outdoor, wood burning bbq. Walking distance to the town of Agujitas (Drake Bay), wild jungle-wilderness behind, ocean in front and (if needed), English speaking owners are close by.
National Geographic has called this region "the most biologically intense area in the world". The Osa Peninsula is located in the southern, sub-tropical Costa Rica and is still somewhat wild with gravel 'roads', occasional power outages and amazing flora and fauna. The jungle comes down a high ridge of wilderness to meet the warm, blue waters of the Pacific ocean. It would be the typical tropical paradise in most story books, the sun glitters off of the soft ocean waves and the jungle teems with wildlife and tropical birds. It is humid and hot but we are very lucky in that there is generally a good breeze coming off the ocean at our site all day.
  • We can’t say enough good things about our stay at La Joyita. The cabin was beautiful and right on the beach. Every night we strolled down to witness the most beautiful sunsets. The only thing that could rival the location is the help and hospitality of Peter and his daughter Alexis. Alexis helped us arrange everything from a fishing trip to scuba lessons. She was so prompt and answered us no matter what we threw at her. Peter gave us our privacy but was always there when we needed him and helped us with everything from taxis to laundry. If we make it back to Drake Bay we will be sure to stay with them again.

    Tom2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • La Joyita is absolutely delightful! And Peter is the ideal host! Ahead of the trip Alexis was incredibly helpful in organizing our stay, and while we there Peter was delightfully present and always looking out for us. This small comfortable cabina is perfectly located for privacy, beach access, pick up & drop off for numerous boat trips, and a comfortable 20 minute mostly beach walk to “town”. Drake Bay is an out-of-the-way gem , and while there are tourists around, it’s easy to find isolated adventures, both on beaches and along rainforest trails. While the group trips to Cano Island, La Serena , and Los pedrillos were great and full of wonderful plants, marine life, land animals, & exotic birds, our favorite activity was walking the forested trail south towards Corcovado, past beautiful little beaches and rivers. La Tortuga restaurant (closest one walking towards town) was delicious and reasonably priced. We loved it here, and are looking forward to returning! Thanks Peter & Alexis for being such great hosts!

    Terry2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, perhaps the best in the bay. Between the sea and the house there is a fresh water flow to "desalt" and cool down. It is a little paradise. Extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Many valuable tips. Better to have a car to get to the place. A light breeze always blows through the beach.

    Achim & Bettina2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Magnificent welcome at Peter and Karin's place in a seaside location a little away from Bahia Drake with direct access to the beach. They helped us organize our activities in this magnificent region. We highly recommend this place!

    Renaud2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Alexis is amazing! I’ve never felt that I had my own travel agent from an Airbnb host! She coordinated everything for us and went above an beyond for everything! The space is a very cute cabin in the woods with the most beautiful sunset! I would 100% stay here again and recommend to everyone! Do not hesitate this is the place to be!!

  • This is a very rustic cabina and is adorable! It has great kitchen amenities and a wonderful fridge and stove. Beer was nice and cold! It was lovely to have coffee, cold beer, some amenities in the fridge, sugar, spices etc. provided. The bedroom was spotless and very cosy and cute. There were lots of fans to keep the ocean breeze moving at night time and during the day. Alexis, Pete’s daughter, was very informative and able to help us make plans around the area. We loved Drake Bay and the beach out front with the ”private” little fresh water river pool at the ocean space.

    Dominique2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful and relaxing stay. The room was exactly as described and pictured in the listing. Tomas and Roberto were very helpful and when we arrived early we were able to check in to the room, as it was already ready. Very relaxed and casual atmosphere. The beach was just steps away. They had bikes for us to ride into town, and told us we could use a couple small kayaks they had, and told us about local wildlife. Walkable to a couple local beach-side restaurants with great ceviche and drinks (and Wifi). The Wifi in our room wasn't super reliable but we considered that a blessing! I will say that, while my husband and I were very comfortable in the rooms, if you are someone who needs a really dark and quiet room to sleep in you may have some trouble. The curtains let a lot of morning light in and there are a lot of insect and bird noises (which we did not mind). We would definitely recommend staying here. Pura Vida!

    Kate2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Safe and spacious cabins in the best location in all of Puerto Jimenez! The tipico breakfasts were good for the price and dinner was always spectacular!! Staff went above and beyond to help with questions and book tours but be prepared to speak Spanish while staying here. WiFi only worked one of the six days I was here which was fine for me as I had purchased a local Kolbi SIM card for my phone and data is very cheap in Costa Rica. I will echo what I had read in other reviews about the check-in process; the staff certainly seemed surprised by my arrival, but they graciously checked me into a cabin. Overall it was a wonderful stay and I will absolutely be staying here again!

    Colleen2019-11-17T00:00:00Z

  • Out of all our stays in Costa Rica, we were provided the best hospitality here. Super friendly and knowledgeable on things to do around the area. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the restaurant here. You’re in walking distance of great trails and waterfalls! And as for the cabin it was a wonderful experience listening to all of the sounds of the nature. Truly great people here!

  • Amazing location in the middle of the jungle, you feel like you are a part of the jungle but still you feel safe. Also Zulay and William is always there to support you and the food is amazing both vegetarian and with meat. Good hiking opportunities around both with and without guide. I see some people complaining about bats etc, well that is the same thing as going to a guitar lesson and saying you don't want to play guitar. Don't miss out on this experience!

    Nora2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place and setting, and the local hosts are absolutely fantastic! The wild nature is exceptional! The open feel of the cabin is wonderful. It's at the end of the road, and you will need 4x4 to get there if you are driving. Download maps before you approach. Better, don't drive. Local taxis go there. Know that you have to pay a guide to get into Corcovado, but there is a great place to explore right next door for $10.

  • We enjoyed it a lot. The local hosts, Zulay and William are very kind and helpful. Zulays cooking was delicious. The property is trully as advertised, in the middle of the jungle with all the excitement that comes with that. Waking up with the sunrise to a symphony of sounds of wildlife, the smell of wet mountain after it rains and a host of jungle surprises at any time during your stay. Keep your flashlight with you at all times and enjoy the beautiful nature.

Located off the beaten path in the rural community of Dos Brazos, but only 12 km from Puerto Jimenez. Corcovado NP is at our doorstep! We specialize in birdwatching, photography, hiking tours, night walks, gold mining, fishing and beach outings. Only 5 total rooms available, all with private entry and access to shared kitchen. Our local knowledge alone is worth the stay -Thank you
The bunkhouse, 2 bunkbeds- sleeps 4 people, is elevated from the ground level with a four sided pitched roof and screened around. It almost feels as if you are sleeping outside. Each of the beds has new mattress, linens, pillow with towel (soap&shampoo) provided. The communal space, a large octagonal building, offers tables and chairs, hammocks for relaxing, two bathrooms, two showers, two sinks, a small kitchen area with fridge, cooktop stove, and all the cooking and eating utensils.
Dos Brazos de Rio Tigre is a small town around 300 people. The town is famous for its gold mining and proximity to Corcovado National Park. A couple years ago a park trail for Corcovado National Park (not park entrance) was opened so guests could access the park. This has increased tourism and the town has started to flourish, and is an example of how rural tourism can be successful. Dos Brazos has been characterized as one of the last few remaining towns in Costa Rica that has not been overridden with tourism. Visiting Dos Brazos is an authentic experience and you will feel like you just visited a town that was from 50 years ago. Location We are located approximately 12km from Puerto Jimenez and the fresh clean air and water make for a much different experience than staying in the larger well known town of Puerto Jimenez. Dos Brazos is located in the foothills, of the Osa Peninsula bordering Corcovado National Park along the Rio Tigre (tiger river). Dos Brazos is off the beaten path yet very close to everything you need. Puerto Jimenez is where you can find beaches, fishing, surfing, restaurants, stores, transportation and a wi-fi internet connection. GOLD MINING HISTORY LOS OREROS DE OSA Today, the Osa Peninsula is world-renowned for its extensive biodiversity, however, not too long ago, the landscape was notorious not for its lush greenery, but an entirely different color altogether: gold. For years, dating back to the early 1500’s, there has been much speculation that the Caribbean and Costa Rica in particular were laden with gold and other riches. In 1502, Christopher Columbus became the first European to cross the Atlantic on his fourth and final voyage and settle in what is now considered the Limón region on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. During his explorations, Columbus was most impressed by the ornate gold jewelry worn by the indigenous people who inhabited the area. It was this discovery in addition to the dense natural landscape that many historians believe led Columbus to coin the country’s name Costa Rica or “Rich Coast” as it translates in English. Yet, despite early speculation of the potential riches to be unearthed in this previously unchartered territory, gold was not discovered in Costa Rica until more than 300 years following the Spaniards’ arrival in the region. Unlike other Central and South American countries such as Mexico, Bolivia and Peru which were exploited as precious metal providers during this colonial period, Costa Rica primarily sustained its economy through agriculture. Large-scale gold mining didn’t begin until the 1820’s, though it soon declined shortly after in the 1840’s. It wasn’t until the 1930’s when gold was discovered on the Osa Peninsula that the industry was later revived, spurring gold fever to sweep the country once again. For many years, Osa was considered “el lugar indeseado,” or “the undesired place” as it translates in English, due to it’s intense untouched landscape and lack of inhabitants. However, with the discovery of gold in the region, a great migration to the Peninsula ensued as many fortune seekers flocked to the area with hopes of striking it big mining for gold. Many of those who migrated to the area were non-conformist refugees from other Caribbean nations seeking refuge from the tyrannical rule of their national governments along with former banana plantation workers from the Limón region seeking work following the closing of many of the United Fruit Company plantations during this time. The Peninsula was one of Costa Rica’s largest gold-bearing regions until the late 1980’s and was known for producing exceptionally high-grade natural gold with a purity above 21 carats, considered to be very high for natural gold deposits and some of the purist found in all of Central America. As a result, throughout this “gold rush period,” the region experienced a large economic boom fueled by artisanal gold prospecting. Unlike other gold mining zones of Costa Rica, however, Osa was unique in that gold was not only abundant in the mountainous regions but also littered river banks throughout the Peninsula in sedimentary form. Sedimentary gold, in contrast to larger gold nuggets, can be extracted in an artisanal process known as gold panning, a labor intensive method that utilizes a sieve or gold pan to separate the precious metal out of sand and gravel. This artisanal form of mining was the primary method adopted by many of the local gold miners, known locally here in Spanish as “oreros”. The community of Dos Brazos de Rio Tigre was one of the major gold mining communities settled on the Peninsula due to its location positioned between the two arms of the Tigre River and on the outskirts of the mountainous jungle landscape of what is now Corcovado National Park. During this time, the Tigre River was said to be one of the rivers with the largest concentration of naturally occurring gold deposits in all of Osa. As a result, for many years the primary economic activity of the families who settled here was artisanal gold mining. Yet, due to speculation of the abundance of gold to be found in the area, along with these artisanal gold miners came extensive foreign commercial mining operations. Unlike the practices of artisanal gold miners, however, the operations of mining firms utilized extensive machinery to extract gold. Due to the nature of these commercial practices, these large scale operations had a dramatic impact on the surrounding area, reshaping much of the formerly untouched landscape of the Peninsula. This not only resulted in the destruction of many wildlife habitats in the region, which consequently caused many species to become endangered, but also had a significant environmental impact as a result of deforestation and landslides which altered forest lighting and effected local temperatures. In response to this extensive environmental damage, in 1975 then President Daniel Oduber established Corcovado National Park, a protected conservation territory of the Osa Peninsula that spans nearly 1/3 of the region’s terrestrial landscape. With the formation of this protected territory came significant government effort to eradicate any extractive activities within the park's limits and, by the early 1980’s, the government completely banned gold prospecting in all forms and began to heavily enforce these regulations within this restricted territory. While this legislation improved environmental conditions in the long run, for many locals, the immediate impact was overwhelmingly negative, resulting in widespread unemployment. Dos Brazos was one of the communities most effected by this new regulation, as many locals were prohibited from practicing the primary activities that enabled them to generate income to support their families for so many years. THE OSA PENINSULA A NATURE-LOVER'S PARADISE The Osa Peninsula, a lush remote location tucked away along the southern tip of Costa Rica's Pacific coastline, is one of the country's finest hidden treasures, praised for its tropical landscape of unparalleled richness and exceptional biodiversity. Osa was one of the last frontiers to be inhabited in Costa Rica with significant migration to the Peninsula beginning in the early 1930's onset by the discovery of significant gold deposits in the region. Though settlement during this "gold rush" continued through the better part of the 1970's, Osa is still sparsely populated with much of the region relatively untouched and only readily accessible by boat, horseback or hiking trail. While areas of Osa remain rather secluded, this in part is the very essence of the charm of the region, making it a world-renowned paradise and one of Costa Rica's top ecotourism destinations. Costa Rica as a whole has been recognized for its concerted conservation efforts and environmental practices with an impressive 25% of the country's land protected under the national park and reserve system. Osa represents an important piece of the country's protected natural landscape as this 700-square-mile stretch of land is the distinguished home to 2.5% of the world's biodiversity. Due to the extensive terrestrial and marine ecosystems endemic to the region, nearly 80% of the landscape remains part of an undeveloped patchwork of protected conservation territory known as the ACOSA region, or "Osa Conservation Area". The body of water that separates the Osa Peninsula from mainland Costa Rica is known as the Golfo Dulce, one of four tropical fjords on the planet and the only place on the globe where populations of both Northern and Southern Humpback whales meet to birth their young. The Térraba-Sierpe Wetlands, located on the Northern-Pacific region of the Peninsula, is the country's largest mangrove forest and represents the most significant wetland ecosystem in all of Central America. Osa's terrestrial regions house the largest remaining tract of lowland rainforest in all of Pacific Mesoamerica as well as the largest population of scarlet macaws in Central America and 3% of flora found nowhere else in the world. Apart from the extensive exotic species of wildlife found on the Peninsula, Osa is also known for some of the best surfing beaches (Cabo Matapalo) and is widely acclaimed to have the best snorkelling in all of Costa Rica (protected reserve Isla de Caño). However, by far the most popular tourist attraction on the Peninsula is world-renowned Corcovado National Park, the largest national park in all of Costa Rica with an impressive ecosystem of wildlife and biodiversity unlike anywhere on the planet (please read the "Corcovado National Park" section below for additional details). Yet, whether you're a nature enthusiast, an adventure junkie, or simply looking for a relaxing escape, the Osa Peninsula is truly a unique tropical paradise with plenty of nature tours and adventure excursions that will be sure to make your stay in Costa Rica an experience to remember! CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK THE CROWN JEWEL OF COSTA RICA Established in October 1975, Corcovado National Park is the largest park in Costa Rica and protects nearly a third of the Osa Peninsula, spanning an area of 54,039 terrestrial hectares and 2,400 marine hectares. The park is home to 13 major ecosystems and conserves the largest primary forest on the American Pacific coastline and one of the few remaining sizeable areas of lowland tropical forests in the world. National Geographic named it "the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity," as the park contains 140 mammal species, 400 bird species (20 of which are endemic), 117 amphibian and reptile species, 40 species of freshwater fish, 500 species of trees, and 8,000 species of insects. Corcovado remains one of the last intact habitats of the New World's largest feline, the jaguar, and is home to four additional species of cats including, the puma, the ocelot, the jaguarundi, and the margay. All four Costa Rican monkey species can be found within the park including, the white-faced capuchin, the mantled howler, Geoffrey's spider monkey, and the endangered Central American squirrel monkey. In addition to the squirrel monkey, amongst the expansive number of species that reside in Corcovado are some of the largest remaining populations of a number of endangered species including, the Baird's tapir, the giant anteater, the white-lipped peccary, the harpy eagle, the scarlet macaw, and the American crocodile, amongst others. Corcovado is open to the public and can be visited on day hikes or overnight treks, however, as of February 1, 2014, all visitors must be accompanied by a certified professional guide to enter the park.

Take advantage of our kitchen or relax in our lounge, here you can go on vacation! Restaurants, supermarkets and bars can be found in the immediate vicinity in the city center (50 m). We are happy to help with the booking of all kind of excursions.
The cabin has a wooden floor and is otherwise, as well as the fittings, made of cane by hand. The roof has a transparent part for giving sufficient light, its height and tall trees provides a fresh and airy climate. A fan gives additional ventilation. The accommodation also has a mosquito net and mattress protector. It has a covered outdoor area with a bench, table and hammock, also a private garden. All our rooms, huts, supply rooms and passages are equipped with smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lights for power outages.
The nearest restaurant (open at 05:00 a.m.) is directly opposite. • Mohagine was the perfect place for our stay in Drake Bay. A short walk to the beach, grocery and good restaurants. The hut was minimalist, but clean. The common area was great for hanging out and preparing meals. The free coffee was a nice touch.

  • Mohagine has a beautiful garden with a lot of birds and flowers. The cabins and tents are very comfortable and you are provided with daily cleaning, towels, sheets and a fan. It is a peaceful place and conveniently located near good restaurants, supermarkets and the beach. The showers, bathrooms and kitchen areas are kept immaculately clean. Everyone who works there is welcoming and friendly. Onmal is very knowledgeable about the local tours and was very helpful in setting up tours to La Sirena, snorkeling, and The Tapir's Trail. We were really happy with all our guides and tours. It was a great place to stay during our visit and I would definitely go back again.

  • Lovely location and very helpful staff. Olman was very kind and helped us catch our boat. We spotted some interesting wildlife from where we were staying, including mother and baby agouti and loads of tanager birds!

  • Our stay at Mohagine was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The hosts were warm and welcoming and personally set up various activities around the area, such as snorkeling and a guided trip to Corcovado. Because our hosts took care of contacting the different tours and arranging transportation it gave us the opportunity to really relax and truly enjoy our vacation. The lodging is in a stunning location tucked away in the jungle all while still being within walking distance from all the restaurants, markets and tour activities. Shared amenities provided opportunities to interact with other guests from around the world at leisure. The shared kitchen with designated storage space gave us the opportunity to purchase food at the markets and not have to break the bank by dining out for every meal. Most importantly, Mohagine provided complementary coffee every morning.

    Alex2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Mohagine. It was a great base for Drake Bay and Corcovado National Park. It was very easy to organise transport between Drake Airport, the Bay and Sierpe by boat it was all handled by our hosts. The property is great, the bungalow was clean and secure and the open plan kitchen and common area had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There was plenty of wildlife on the property, from monkeys, sloths, lizards and birds. This was a great stay!

  • If you book this accommodation, expect extreme hospitality, a little adventure, a beautiful and clean cabin and lots of animals. Anja and her staff were always there to answer questions and organize tours. Each of them gives tips on what you could not look at yet. Already at breakfast you can watch monkeys, sloths and various beautiful birds. The accommodation itself was very nicely decorated and very clean. You just feel very comfortable from the very first second, which is certainly the case with the lovely people there. If I explore Costa Rica again, then definitely a stay in Drake Bay with Anja!

    Katrin2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • If we could score 10 points for Anja's hospitality, we would do it. Like everyone else, we were greeted with a cup of tea in the garden and provided with good tips. Anja's little kingdom is very quaint, cozy, the dining area is designed with great attention to detail, her staff Elena and Adonis are very helpful and nice. Our little cabin had everything you need, including the morning monkey roar. If you are looking for a true jungle experience, this is the place for you. Our tips for a stay at Anja are: make sure the horseback ride with Melvin, because you get a very different perspective on the rainforest, we also liked the snorkel tour with whale watching and of course the tour through the Corcovado. In culinary terms we can recommend the restaurant Carey in Drake Bay, which is also recommended and advertised by Anja herself. Juan Carlos is an excellent chef and you have to try all the fish of the day. We would love to come back and recommend Anjas Paradies!

    Elisabeth2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Mohagine is a lovely jungle oasis with exceptional staff and awesome setting. We saw monkeys, hummingbirds and much more from our cabin. The communal lounge kitchen is a great place to catch up with fellow travellers and listen to the forest sounds.

  • What a great little find! Erick’s place is perfect. The balcony offers the most amazing views and watching the sunset each evening was so beautiful. Erick was super helpful with anything and everything. If we’re ever back in Drakes Bay, we will definitely book here again.

    Becky2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was amazing, the room was very clean, safe, and with an amazing view. The beds were comfy and we slept well. Eric was very nice and welcoming, and helpful with local tips and sharing his passion on Costa Rica. He organized our shuttle to Sierpe to catch the boat to Drake Bay, and he arranged a ride to the local airport at the end of our visit. Eric also organized the tours for us - day trip to Sirena station in Corcovado National Park, a snorkeling tour at Cano Island, and a horseback ride along and in a local river to a sweet waterfall for a swim, all of which were awesome! Please note that there is no ATM in Drake, so it's good to bring cash for things not readily available via debit/credit machine. Overall, a great stay. Highly recommend, and would do it all again in a heartbeat:)

we're happy you dropped by. take a load off, sit down and relax. it's very easy to fall into a tropical rhythm in a place where thatched roof dwellings such as chozas, ranchos & palapas exist. They are an essential part of both the historical and contemporary Osa lifestyle & experience. They are simplicity, functionality and beauty all rolled into a fine piece of work. you'll notice the tropical elegance of la palapa hut as soon as you enter.
A private room with single bed, AC and private bathroom facilities including shower.
  • Incredible place in the middle of wild life: Macaus, sloth, colorful crabs, frogs... and well placed to explore Corcovado NP. Single rooms very small but nice double rooms. Very friendly staff

  • This hut was a nice, inexpensive and convenient place to stay in Puerto Jimenez. It was a short walk to restaurants, the grocery store, the beach and departure points for tours. The room was small but comfortable, with a good mattress and air conditioning. My one hesitation is that the hotel plans to start collecting and sharing biometric information on guests in the future, which is something I'm not comfortable with. For this one reason I would likely not stay again, due to security and privacy concerns. The hotel itself is very nice, though, and the staff are very welcoming and kind. They're also very willing to help you figure out how to get around and how to best spend your time.

    Jay2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A unique and enchanting site, really exceptional. I appreciated that we go down the mirror of the bathroom which was too high for my great hahah! Friendly staff and willing to meet my every request, generous explanations when to nature. Several little monkeys who marveled me. Amazing layout. In no case did I feel in danger. The 24 hour coffee was delicious and snacks were much appreciated. In short, I highly recommend!

    Micheline2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Could have stayed longer. Really comfortable space, very nice people, surrounded by macaws and monkeys.

  • Very natural setting, away from the main part of town, but just a few blocks walk to the Main Street. Very friendly.

  • Perfect spot. Walking distance from the airport, so fly-in visitors have a great spot, but It's nice and quiet. In 2 days I heard 1 plane briefly, and it wasn't loud at all. I'd definitely recommend this spot. The Corcovado NP was amazing. The whole experience, but the room was great, complimentary coffee, and hammocks, outside seating, so much to enjoy!

  • Trista and her husband were very nice and welcoming. Trista was very helpful, she helped us for the different activities we wanted to do, she let us use her washing machine and let us stay a bit longer before leaving! A lovely home and family, our stay was very peaceful!

  • My stay at Trista’s Airbnb was great. It is a very simple accomodation, don’t expect a super clean and luxury room. But it’s a great place for the perfect jungle experience. The room is on the first floor and very open, so you can hear the whole jungle. Especially at night, this is really great. It felt like sleeping completely outside and I felt totally energised when I woke up. Mosquitos haven’t been a problem. Trista also recommended and booked a day trip to the Corcovado National Park for me. Thanks a lot, Trista!

    Mario2020-01-20T00:00:00Z

  • Great home in the forest just out of the town. The hosts are so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place!

    Rory2019-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Trista’s place is about a 30 minute walk from the main town. It is quirky and rustic with a huge attic / first floor room which I loved. Tiny birds flew in in the morning and there is a hammock on a sort of outside (covered) platform with amazing views. Trista and her partner were very kind hosts. Trista cheerfully ordered taxis for us when we couldn’t face the walk back - there was a LOT of rain! ( we went in the rainy season). She also let us use her twin tub - very versatile- and cooked us really delicious breakfasts. If you are looking for the simple life in the middle of nature and enjoy walking this is a great place to go!

  • Off the beaten track while being accessible a majestic and inspiring place ideal for recharging your batteries and discovering authentic Costa Rica. Very well equipped outdoor kitchen. A crush on the best Zulay cuisine in Costa Rica. A warm and simple welcome in the image of this adorable family. Do not hesitate to come live this unique experience you will not regret it!

  • Amazing attention to detail. Beautifully appointed with the best quality of everything. Nothing lacking. Felt pampered. Beautiful view. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Just know there are about 50 steps to climb to get there. Pack lightly.

  • A wonder lost in nature, this accommodation opening onto the forest made us live the Costa Rica that we imagined. The team is great and we also had the chance to meet Zephirin and his family, a great meeting. We must talk about the cuisine on site which is without a doubt the best in the country in my opinion. We could easily have stayed a full week there are so many things to do there that are worth more than what the guides (lonely planet etc) can suggest from Corcovado and surroundings. A discovery that we will not forget, in short, the true meaning of the term Pura Vida.

    Sophie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is magical, a paradise. The accommodation is jungle-perfect and our hosts could not have been more helpful. My favourite place in Costa Rica so far...

    Richard2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our favorite stop in CR. Gorgeous open air living without bugs! Luxurious space and details made us feel like royalty in the jungle. Corcovado is close, but if you are a birder you only have to look out the front porch. Nice walking trails nearby too. Loved our stay

    Jenny2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We spent two perfect nights at Amazonita! The cabin was perfectly clean, very functional and very beautiful !! Finally the apprehension of sleeping without a wall became a real pleasure! It's awesome ! And what about this family! We felt at home with our family! They are so adorable! I advise you to eat at their little restaurant, it's DELICIOUS! There are beautiful walks to do right next door! Perfect place to unwind

    Laura2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a real paradise! Right on the edge of the Corcovado national park. The lodge is amazing and people just wonderful. Zulay and her family are fabulous hosts and excellent chef! Thank you so much for an unforgettable stay! We will miss all the sounds surrounding us!

    Dan2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Going into this I didn't know what to expect. A house out in the jungle that without any connection to the outside. I can honestly say this was the best experience I have had and my only regret has been that we didn't leave it for last as it has made everything else feel like "less". The area is amazing and the people are even better. Words can't begin to describe our experience and my wife and I look forward to returning.

This casita is located 15km South of Puerto Jimenez along the road to Cabo Matapalo and Corcovado National Park. It is a simple, open air, beach cabin perfect for adventurers, surfers, and nature lovers.
The cabin is open air with a one bedroom sleeping loft. There is a king size bed, as well as a single day bed. There is a detached bathroom, located approximately 50 meters across the yard from the house, and a lovely outdoor shower. There is a bodega on site for locking your valuables.
This cabin is part of the Cabo Matapalo neighborhood of the Osa Peninsula. Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 17 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. Over the years, Matapalo has become a surf destination. It borders a beach along the Pacific Ocean that routinely ushers in large swells. There are several areas to surf. The waves vary in difficulty, allowing for beginner to expert surfing opportunity. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation. The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than 4000-5000 vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.
  • We stayed there for 4 nights. Located in a garden among birds and monkeys, facing the sea. I recommend this place to those who like to surf, to be surrounded by nature and to be a little isolated. The nearest town is 30 minutes by car. We enjoyed our stay.

    Vincent2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical place, my friend and I were so happy here! Rising with the rhythms of nature every day is such an incredible experience. Every afternoon the howler monkeys and their baby's would populate the trees, and in the morning the scarlet macaws came for breakfast. I even had a toucan in the yard one day! I was initially a little worried about the bugs in the evening after reading another review, but I found that it was completely fine. I never even used bug dope. There are a few that are attracted to the light, but not intolerable at all. I brought a citronella candle and incense and that helped, but even without those the evenings were beautiful. If you love to be in nature this place will be a dream... you are always outdoors and immersed int he amazing biodiversity of the Osa. Pura Vida!

  • This place is a little piece of heaven on earth. PERFECTION!

    Daniel2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful cabin off the grid! Just a stroll away from a lonely beach and most of the time a decent surf spot (around high tide). Communication with the host was always pleasant ans quick and the kitchen utensils were amazing and clean! Can get hot during the night when sun was shining all day long on the roof. We only wished to find an umbrella there to use when going to the bathroom when there is pouring rain :)

  • My wife and I wished we would of stayed longer. This place was such a gem. Everything exactly as the photos and descriptions stated. 5 stars all the way. We especially love the outside shower and the feeling of being out there in pure nature. Would definitely recommend for honeymooners and anniversary seekers.

    Jose2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The place is lovely, surrounded by lushness, walking distance to the beach. It is simple, stylish and clean. Definitely rent a 4x4 vehicle to get there and have mobility - it is down a long a bumpy dirt road and be prepared for power shortages!

    Aryeh2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible place to stay, if you like the outdoor life in the jungle and want to relax. For us this was the most special place in Costa Rica and perfect after the Corcovado tour(los Patos-Sirena-Carate) We went there by normal low car, the road alright. From Puerto Jimenez is around half an hour.

    Marc2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Axels place was picturesque. It was a great way to spend a week. We saw so many different things just in the backyard. We would love to come back!!

    Puerto Jiménez, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Activities include: kayaking in the mangroves, fishing, surfing, nature hikes into Corcovado National Park, boat tours for whale and dolphin spotting, snorkeling, chocolate tours, canopy tours, crocodile watching, horseback riding and more.
  • Waleska's place was truly perfect! We stayed in one of the circular cabinas, an awesome design and perfect to be self sufficient. The location is great - close enough to town to easily get supplies, but located on a pristine stretch of beach that offered opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, photography, exploration, and prIvate relaxation. It is also a perfect jump off point to explore the Osa Peninsula, with points south and north easily accessed. We'll be back for sure!

  • An absolute dream in such a beautiful place. We really enjoyed it and will definitely come back again.

    Lisa2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at both a tent and a bungalow on our stay here in the beautiful town of Puerto Jimenez. What you see on the Airbnb site pales in comparison to how you will feel when you arrive. First of all, as soon as you get out of your vehicle the smells in her amazing garden will invigorate you. We walked down a beautiful path to be greeted by Luna the dog, then our host, Waleska who was very nice and friendly. ( They both were) She showed us to our tent which was very charming, perfectky clean, had a sweet little deck and cutely folded guest towels. There are power outlets by each side of the bed and a light. The deck also had lighting and a table with 2 chairs. . The tent is across a small sandy quiet rd to a beach... a beach that you will basically have to yourself. When we went to bed on the comfortable mattress we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the crashing waves. In the morning a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs,beans/rice and coffee was served at her place. Unfortunately we only got one night in the tent as it was booked the following day. ......however then we got to stay at a bungalow..... My boyfriend and I are at opposite ends as to which was our favourite place. The bungalow has more space, with bathroom inside of it and an outdoor kitchen. Where as the tent had the view of the water and was a titch closer to the beach. You have a private shower and toilet with the tent but it is down the path.....no big deal. It was sooo clean and nice. I prefer the tent he prefers having more amenities...but they are both amazing ! Back to yhe bungalow.... we really liked the outdoor kitchen and shaded eating area, and also the deck off the bedroom upstairs, the fans were a huge bonus. There is no A/C or hot water. You dont need hot water...and you get used to the heat when you have no choice. The wifi was only available near Waleskas place which is good as you tend to enjoy the beauty that surrounds you more. I plan on rebooking for years to come. I love the cleanliness, the gardens, the rusticness, and the almost private beach being so close. Also the host...she was lovely, personable, honest and kind.

  • Waleska's place is a fabulous spot to stay. The cabin is cute, spacious, clean, and has everything one needs. Waleska is a great host and had recommendations for us for activities. Her beautiful garden is filled with birds and an amazing beach is right across the street.

    Anita2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Waleska was above our expectations: 10 unique days in a deserted place where the garden has nothing to envy to the fauna of the Corcovado Park. Waking up to the sound of monkeys, magical sunrise alone on a 7 km long beach, a very good breakfast when you order it the day before from Waleska. the bungalow has a kitchen, plan your shopping at puerto Jimenez supermarket to cook on the spot and you will be the kings of the world! (15 minutes of track from the city center, where 7000 to 8000 colones of taxi to come from the center). Wonderful!

    Rodolphe2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Waleska's accommodation for a few days. It was so incredibly nice that we even extended it twice by one day each and rescheduled our remaining vacation because we liked it so much. Originally we were only looking for accommodation to take a booked trip (Ficus-Tours - Puerto Jimenez, two-day jungle hike. Incidentally, it is also highly recommended). Accommodation: The property consists of four or five bungalows and is located directly on a huge, long sandy beach near the nature reserve Corcovado. The beach is not very busy, sometimes you are all alone. In the hotel next door (only 5 minutes from Waleska) there is a good restaurant with Italian food. We ate pizza there twice. Puerto Jimenez is about 15 to 20 minutes away by car.

    Markus2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Her place is spectacular, private and peaceful. Full kitchen to cook. Waleska is a great hostess! She was always willing to help and give tips on what to do in the area.

    Patricia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 very nice days at Waleska. The bungalows are beautifully decorated and you can cook wonderfully in the outdoor kitchen. Waleska is very hospitable. She gave us good tips so we could be there when baby turtles were released on the beach. The area is a little out of the way, but easy to reach by car, but it is very quiet (except birdsong) at night and you are very close to the beach, which is ideal for swimming or walking. We would definitely go there again.

• I had a great time staying here. I slept really well and it’s a nice place to stay. It’s close to the beach, restaurants and supermarket - you have everything you need. The staff was helpful and always kind, I would always get a quick answer to all my questions. I would definitely recommend this stay! Everything is spread out through the green and plants, a great atmosphere, if I come again, I’ll pick this stay again.

    Jasna2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Firstly, Drake Bay is just beautiful! It was the one of my best decisions I made by coming here. Secondly, I made my other best decision by choosing Mohagine. I liked the sound of sleeping in an open air room but still wasn't sure if I could be comfortable enough. Therefore I booked it for one night first. The small room had a fan (which I never had to use), a mosquito net above the single bed, a wooden sit for 2 and two coffee tables. I slept beatifully through the night and I was  definitely sure that I would want to stay for another week, so I extended my stay in the morning. Mohagine has a very cosy open air community space with a kitchen that is also very nice & welcoming. There are dozens of restaurants around but having a fully equipted kitchen is important when you are vegan. Mohagine doesn't provide food, which is also make you to cook in their kitchen without feeling guilty. They provide you with free coffee, sugar&salt, basic spices and oil to cook. Water is filtered so you can drink directly from the tap. They have plenty of plates, cups and pans. Good wi-fi, clean rooms, provided towels and clean sheets every other day are also the others bonuses. Be aware that the lights of the communal area will be turned off by 9pm but most rooms has there little area, some of them with hammock, to hang out outside. This wasn't a problem for me at all as I was going to bed by 8.30pm and get up by 5am the latest. They hang some organic bananas just outside of my room that I could watch dozens of capuchin monkeys coming to eat them. If you don't keep any food, nuts, sweets etc. you are very safe in your room. Blue morphos and other butterflies fly around, agoutis, racoons passes by 😊. Its a small jungle itself! There is a path at the back of the hotel garden that you can take a day/night walk to see more animals, bugs etc. Olman who is running&managing the hotel is very easy to communicate. He is always there to give you all the information you need regarding the resort, area, tours etc. Christina who is also dealing with the travellers is extremely helpful, friendly and a happy person to see every day. I highly recommend this place. Especially the open air rooms in a such a beautiful environment. I was so happy with sleeping half outside that I even booked my next accommodation in Quepos in an open air room too!

    Guls2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place was my best stay in whole Costa Rica!!! The staff were very nice and gave a lot of tip to get to know around. The bed where I stayed was called Pejiyabe and you should definitely ask for it, it an open air bed with everything you need. I would definitely go there next time
