Bar

“The whiskey selection at this neighborhood mainstay is impressive: 100+ whiskeys and 60+ small-batch bourbons are on display behind a horseshoe-shaped bar. The only other view is brick walls through paned glass windows, while dim lights under sconces round out the room to give the bar a dramatic glow. At $12 a pop, cocktails here don’t run dive-bar cheap, but the happy hour (Mon-Sat 5-8pm; Sun 2-8pm) is one of the best in town, with a curated list of cocktails (Moscow mules, Manhattans, the oft-elusive dark and stormy) only $5 each. Hello, day drinking.”

Thai Restaurant
$$
“Los Angeles is home to excellent Southeast Asian food, including spicy Thai. In Silver Lake, experience Chef Kris Yenbamroong’s spicy, sweet and sour Northern Thai fare at his vibrant Night + Market Song, the young chef’s second LA concept. Fried chicken has never been better, and it plays nicely with staples like the crispy rice salad or fiery larb. You may need a Thai iced tea or two to handle the intense Thai chile kick, or pair it with biodynamic wines from Yenbamroong’s creative list.”

Beer Store
“Sunset Beer is an awesome bar and tap-room. If you've never been to a tap-room before, they have rows and rows of individual cans and bottles. Once you make your selection, you can either take it home, or bring it over to the bar area and pay a corkage fee to drink it right there. It means drinks are a lot cheaper than they would be at other bars. Plus, their happy hour special is no corkage fee! So during the week, average cost of a drink is about $3 for a nice beer. Hard to beat! FYI, they close early (latest is midnight), so this is better for the start of your night or for a post-dinner night cap.”
