'Curlew' is on the East beach in the lovely Devon village of Branscombe. It has a unique position right on the beach on a raised elevation, throw open the balcony doors and you are looking out onto the ever changing sea and stunning coastline which is a World Heritage site and area of outstanding natural beauty. There are two fine pubs supplying excellent food and locally brewed ales in the village and amazing cliff path walks East or West.
Living as close as is humanly possible to the sea, without the movement of a boat! The Chalet is actually on a raised platform on the beach, the French doors open onto a balcony where all you can see is the ever changing water and sky.
  • Perfection location, such a peaceful beach! My boys loved playing outside and loved staying in the chalet! It was a homely and relaxed space and the balcony made it perfect as you could sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the sun while the kids played on a deserted beach right infront of the chalet. They also loved having evening camp fires on the beach! We stayed here only last week and had amazing weather on one day, walked to the top of the hill next to the beach, fantastic views! But a very hard climb for adults let alone my 2 year old! Worth it for the views though! Watched the sun rises over the mountain side at 6.30am which was beautiful! Would definitely stay here again but next time I would pack lighter as my husband wasn’t happy with me as he had to carry our stuff which was a heavy suitcase up a hill and down again on to the beach... if you read reviews like I did (but didn’t take advice) take that one thing from it, pack light, small bags, easier to transport to the chalet. Apparently the guys in the car park said they do offer a service to drive people down there with their belongings on their beach buggy thing for a price. Sadly we didn’t know this until the last day, but worth finding them in the car park area if you have a few bags because your staying with kids and bedding etc to take to the chalet! Jonathan was a great host who answered my messages and calls straight away, genuinely caring and wanted to know if we had enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back, it’s a perfect space which is basic, nothing fancy but it’s all you need when your in a beautiful location like that, whatever the weather! The modern bathroom and kitchen area is a nice touch to an older chalet which has character! Thank you again Jonathan! Our children, my husband and I loved it!

  • Incredible location. The sound from the sea fills the chalet. Loved it

    Barry2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Curlew Chalet is situated in a truly stunning location, the views out of the window and the sound of the waves breaking on the beach are absolutely memorising. Early morning walks along the beach before breakfast are a must. Loads of interesting places to visit and pubs/restaurants for lunchtime/evening meals out, or just eat in and open out the bi-folding doors to soak in the view ... Our host Jonathan couldn't have been more helpful during our visit, and I would highly recommend this accommodation - Already making plans for a return visit.

  • Although you do have to walk a few minutes to get to the chalet, it is well worth the walk. The location is beautiful right by the sea, very calm and peaceful inside and comfortable. The walks nearby are great and the cafe down by the car Park is an added bonus should you not want to cook. Definitely worth a visit and Jonathan is great and on the phone should you need his help.

  • Fantastic location. Perfect place for a family weekend.

    Sam2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great location right on the beach. Clean. If you are going there in the winter or anytime apart from summer, you will need proper footwear to get up and down the hill to the chalet. We did it at night, not a good idea. We loved our stay and would highly recommend. Thank you Jonathan for all your help and messages, will stay here again.

    Dominique2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This chalet is an amazing find; one can enjoy the solitude whilst listening to the waves crashing outside. Alternatively it’s a walker’s dream exploring the local area. Jonathan is an attentive host who responds to communication promptly. I’m looking forward to creating space to rebook later in the year. Thank you 😊

  • The perfect spot to get away & relax, go on amazing walks , beautiful scenery and get cosy with a cup of tea and watch the sea. The cabin had everything we needed to cook breakfasts and dinners & lots of interesting books too.

  • An absolutely amazing house in the heart of a lovely seaside village. The hosts were very attentive to our needs before our visit and answered any questions within the hour. The house itself is incredible. So much space both inside and outside, with a lovely garden and sea views. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and even a hamper to make us feel very welcome. The rooms and bathrooms are also great and well equipped. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who needs a large space for get togethers!

  • Lovely house in a super location! We would definitely recommend and will book again. We had a weekend away with friends and their children - the house is vast and accommodated our large group easily. The house was also immaculately clean. Budleigh Salterton itself is super with easy access to the South West coast path.

Self contained, luxurious eco retreat in the beautiful East Devon countryside - just 6 miles from the sea! As seen on Grand Designs and Grand Designs Revisited 2018, our property is a zero carbon luxurious eco home, built from traditional cob, with a wildflower meadow roof and set in 3.5 acres of meadow and woodland. Ottery St Mary is a charming, bustling, little town, set on the River Otter, providing all the basic needs, independent shops and plenty of lovely eateries, and a few pubs!
As seen on Grand Designs and Grand Designs Revisited 2018, our property is a modern zero carbon eco luxurious home, built from traditional cob, with an amazing wildflower meadow roof and set in 3.5 acres of meadow and woodland. This is a luxury, zero carbon house - we produce all of our own electricity and all of our water is either filtered rainwater or from our borehole. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and scones or biscuits are provided as a welcome pack for your arrival. Dingle Dell annexe is linked to our home by a large, very productive, (almost tropical!) greenhouse. Dingle Dell annexe has 3 bedrooms - a king and a twin on the ground floor, with a further king upstairs, all furnished with quality oak furniture, deep mattresses and quality bedding. The bathrooms are both beautifully fitted with travertine floor tiles, with a walk in rainfall shower and a very comfy slipper bath on the ground floor, and a luxury shower over the bath on the first floor. Both bathrooms are also fitted with luxurious "I Love Eco Essentials" toiletries. There is a gorgeous woodburner, with logs provided, in the ground floor living area, which is used to boost the hot water if the sun lets us down! This then opens onto a sunspace with a dining table and amazing views across our meadow and out onto East Devon. Stunning hand made oak stairs wind up to the first floor from the sunspace, into an open living / dining and bespoke hand made oak kitchen, plus the king bedroom and bathroom. The layout is great for grand parents, parents and children, or multiple couples holidaying together as it still achieves a level of privacy and space if required! We also have an amazing private gym / sauna/ games room suite which is available to book for your exclusive use for an additional charge. This is available to annexe guests over 18 years only. There is lots of space for easy parking on site and a covered charging bay for electric cars if required.
We are at the end of a long, unmetalled track, right on the edge of Ottery St Mary surrounded by beautiful East Devon countryside. Exeter is only 10 miles away, and the stunning East Devon (Jurassic) coast is just 6 miles away. Head to the coast for a beach walk or beach day, plus activities such as kayaking and fossil hunting, plus the famous South West coast path. A choice of bike trails are nearby and a footpath across the surrounding farmland is just outside the gate! A walk along the River Otter, which leads all the way to Budleigh Salterton from Ottery St Mary, is glorious and shouldn't be overloooked, a few miles south takes you to the village of Tipton St John, with a very lovely country pub... Keep a look out for amazing wildlife including otters and even beavers along the riverbanks!
  • A truly spectacular place to stay. Kevin and Karen were very welcoming and we enjoyed our stay very much.

    Bex2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin and Karen made sure we were comfortable but at the same time were always available if we needed something. The house is even more amazing than it looks on Grand Designs. Everything is beautifully crafted, beautiful to look at and the walls seem to almost hug you. We're only sorry that we were too busy driving around sightseeing to take the time to go for a walk through the meadow and see if we could see any otters in the stream. Would recommend this to anyone!

    Cathy2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Dingle Dell is an extraordinary, robust home! A warm, cosy and comfortable space to return to after a long day touring gorgeous Devon. Kevin and Karen are exemplary hosts who were very obliging and quick to respond. Enjoy!

Some of the local highlights for the foodies are The Pig at Combe, Hix oyster restaurant at Lyme Regis, The Tuckers Arms at Dalwood and the Holt in Honiton. Further afield, both Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks are approximately 1 hours drive away and the city of Exeter is a 45 minute drive.
  • At the one year anniversary of my mother and brothers sudden death I was looking for somewhere to stay that was secluded and would take me away from the daily humdrum of life and this property did not disappoint. The lodge was absolutely stunning and the scenery was gorgeous. Waking up to hearing only the birds singing and going to sleep in blissful silence is something hard to find but not here! The lodge was exceptionally well equipped with everything you need to be holed up, the log fire was lovely in the evenings and the large dining table was surprisingly useful, we ate one end and used the other for our never ending game of monopoly. The bed was comfy and the room smelt divine. The bath was a blissful added extra. The generator was easy to use if you needed electricity but to be honest we hardly used it, the plentiful candles were enough for us. The kitchen included everything you need, loved the Aga. All in all, we were sad to leave and would love to return.

  • What a beautiful location ! If you want an exclusive stay and are a country lover you won’t be disappointed.

    Katherine2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful spot! Our boys loved it so much they asked if they could extend our stay for a year..! We spotted 10 deer on our early morning walk and countless songbirds and pheasants. Peaceful evenings by candlelight (/minus WiFi) brought much needed relaxation and wonderful family time. Thank you!

    Milly2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Alice's Barn really is such a hidden gem. My girls aged 9 and 10 were a little nervous about spending 3 days without a TV but they loved it as did we. The barn is so special in every way, and helps you reconnect with nature and most importantly one an other. There is a lovely roll top bath that's not shown in the pictures too which is a treat. We used the generator at meals time, just so as we had a little more light but other than that enjoyed candle lit evenings and cozy mornings. Highly recommend this getaway for anyone's family.

    Stephen2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely cottage, just as pictured and with lots of thoughtful touches like snacks and proper coffee. Still feels very private although it is attached to the main house. The place was sparkling clean and smelled great! We got a bit lost arriving after dark (Londoners in the country!!) but Phillip and his neighbours were very helpful and made sure we arrived safely. We only had a short stay with our pup to visit friends in Exeter but hope to come back to explore the countryside. The stargazing was top notch too!

  • We visited with our small dog, who also had a great time. We had a perfect stay. Warm and welcoming hosts who were easy to communicate with. Clear directions, in a beautiful rural location. The accommodation was sparkling clean, and thoughtfully designed. Lots of added touches, including snacks and fresh fruit. We arrived past day light, but waking up to such a special view was a real treat. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

    Michael2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The property is so nice and cosy, with everything you could need and more, for a get away in the country. Sue was a great host and used lots of nice touches to make sure our stay was the best. Highly recommend to others.

    Richard2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very cosy, spacious and beautifully finished, self contained annex which is exactly what it says on the site description. It is made that wee bit more special by the extra goodies which Sue leaves for each visitor - a really helpful breakfast pack which lasted us for three days and some chocolate brownies. No hesitation in recommending and using it again ourselves.

    Eric2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sue's place is brilliant, it is immaculate and has everything you could need, cosy and warm with good wifi (sadly we were working during our stay) The little touches, like the welcome pack made a big difference to us as we had no time before getting there to get in breakfast supplies!!! Location was perfect for us to attend an event at the village hall but it seemed a great location to explore the area from. Our stay was too short really but we could not have asked for more. Thank you Sue

  • This is a real gem. Tucked away in a quiet village, the cottage is cleverly designed and beautifully appointed. Whether is a cosy romantic stay for two or (as in my case) a welcome change to hotels for a business trip, the cottage is warm, comfortable and with a high spec. Highly recommended.

  • The Crow's Nest is a lovely place to stay, and we had a wonderful time. We live in a city, so wanted to stay somewhere rural and quiet, and this was exactly what we wanted. The chalet is set in the middle of some absolutely beautiful countryside, and we didn't want to leave. I hope we'll be able to visit again and will definitely recommend it to my friends

  • A perfect week away in a beautiful lodge in a sensational setting! My husband and I came here with my parents and we all absolutely loved it. Emma and Chuck were so lovely and accommodating and the lovely touch of fresh eggs, milk, butter and croissants to greet us on arrival was extra special xx

  • I received a lovely warm welcome from Carla and Martin and the two dogs. The location was ideal for my visit to Sidmouth and it was handy to be able to walk into Sidmouth or catch the bus. The same bus will also take you one to Exeter, or certain ones will go to Honiton in the other direction. Carla provided a good range of cereals, fruit, yoghurt for breakfast which set me up for the day.

  • A lovely, quiet little cottage next to a small stream. The accommodation has everything you need to self cater and Maxine is a great host. She was there when we arrived to make sure everything was ok, and left us some fresh eggs, milk and CAKE! Sidbury is an easy drive from Sidmouth, and there are some great walks along the East Devon Way which passes through the village. The cottage is warm and welcoming. An excellent pub in Sidford - The Blue Ball - with good food.

    Blake2017-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were only there for a day but Maxine was very welcoming and the surrounding area was just beautiful. A lot of thought and care had obviously gone in to the decoration of the place and it had a real homely feel. Eggs and milk were provided along with other simple essentials which really helped after the long drive. Really hope to stay again!

  • We had a wonderful idyllic stay in this beautiful guesthouse. The space is big & very tastefully furnished. There as been a lot of thought & lovely things put into this project. Fell asleep to the sound of a babbling brook which was lovely. Very good choice for anyone looking for a perfect stay. Sidbury is a lovely village central to do many lovely days out. We definitely would return to stay with the lovely Maxine .

  • Dear Maxine, we had such lovely time. Thank you so much. You were always so helpful and I so appreciated you borrowing your cake mixer to make a birthday cake. Also we enjoyed the bird songs, cows in the field and bubbling brook very much.

Perfect rural location for an 'away from it all' holiday. Swallows cabin has stunning views and is very private, with it's own enclosed garden bordering fields in which our horses graze. Ideal couples hideaway with use of heated pool (1st May to end Sept) shared with a small number of other guests, tennis court, croquet lawn and games room. Well behaved dogs are welcome and there are lovely walks all around. There is a small charge of £20 per pet, payable when you arrive.
The cabin is very well equipped and there will be a welcome pack of basic food, household and toiletry items left for your arrival. There is an electric 'log burner' in the living area and two other electric heaters, making it very cosy and well insulated during the cooler months. A side store houses the washing machine, airer and refuse and re-cycling. Free Wifi
The Coly Valley is such a special area and with so much to see and do! Colyton is a delightful small historic town and a Tramway runs from here along the Axe River through the Seaton Wildlife reserve and down to the coast. The East Devon way is accessible about quarter of a mile away and takes you through fields, along the Coly River and into Colyton and beyond.
  • Spent 4 nights at this cozy lodge as we were down for the Grizzly. Gordon showed us round and left us to it for our stay, which is just how we like it. We arrived to the fridge stocked with the essentials, which was very much appreciated. Very secluded Lodge with beautiful views and only a short drive to the beach. Thankyou for having us!

Beautiful surroundings and the beach is only 10mins drive away. The hosts are lovely people, accommodating and a pleasure to have met. A perfect holiday!!!

  • Such a peaceful cabin tucked away in a beautiful location with all you could need for a relaxing stay. Great hosts and would definitely return.

    Richard2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Really beautiful scenery! Great hosts and a fantastic Air BnB. We visited on a very cold week and the cabin was able to warm up hot enough for us. Was very quite. It’s really easy to get to loads of fantastic places like Lyne Regis, Beer, Sidmouth and Seaton. Absolutely worth visiting, we would definitely go again. This wasn’t a problem for us, but it’s worth knowing that the Wi-fi was very slow and we had no signal on our phones. Could be a problem for some people. Wasn’t a problem for us!

    Charlotte2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Swallows cabin is very cute and cosy with great views and peacefulness to wake up to. You have everything in the cabin that you'll need and lots of information of lacal areas to visit. We had a lovely stay even when the weather wasn't so great, but when the sun is shinning bright in the morning you can fully take in the scenery.

    Jennie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z

Seatime studio apartment has been lovingly refurbished and equipped to offer everything you will need for a truly comfortable stay. It is in the heart of the charming, upmarket seaside resort of Sidmouth, a minutes walk from the beach and town centre
Location, location, location! The apartment is in an ideal location in the centre of Sidmouth, a minute or twos walk to the beach and town centre, yet a peaceful and quiet place to stay.
Sidmouth is a lovely place to spend time, the beach and coastline are stunning, the town has a wealth of small independent shops and restaurants and there are award winning gardens. So many guests find themselves coming back time and time again
  • A great little private place to get away from it all - and very close to the beach, shops and restaurants.

My place is close to the beach, cinema, theatre, shops and restuarants. Coastal walks. Short drive to the famous Donkey Sanctuary, public transport, the airport. You’ll love my place because of the ambiance and the comfy bedS. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travel
  • Wendy was a great host who made us feel very welcome in her lovely home. The breakfast was a nice treat in the morning. Thank you again for a great stay. Would definitely recommend.

    Amy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy is a lovely host and has a super clean and warm home. Lovely private shower room, the comfy bed an quality linen ensured a well earned sleep after a long drive .Loved the location just 10 minutes walk from the beach front and facilities. Wendy makes a darn good fresh fruit salad with muesli for breakfast. I do think however that her rates are too low - possibly the best value accommodation in Devon and now our go-to place down there.

    Ian2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • I felt welcomed as soon as Wendy opened the door. The room was spacious and clean. It smelt amazing too and you can tell she takes pride in being the perfect host. She’s open to conversation and she respected my privacy. The bed was comfortable and I loved the shower facility. Loads of power and heat if required. I access to my own shower/toilet. Again I could tell she has invested in quality. The highlight was my breakfast. I had my own granola but preferred her fruit salad she prepared every morning. I appreciated the effort she put into preparation and also the quality of the fruit. It was like being at home. I was free to come and go and this was important for me. I would definitely recommend Wendy’s place. It’s literally 10minute walk to the coast.

  • My Xmas break was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Easy to walk into town (about 10 minutes) The Donkey Sanctuary was easy to reach on the bus. Wendy was such a lovely person and I was very much at home with the two very friendly cats. TV in bedroom or the use of the lounge. Wendy lit the fire which was so cosy. The breakfast she provided was perfect and her garden lovely in warmer months. The whole house was very clean and sole use of shower/bathroom. Will return again. Jen

  • Really nice little self contained annex with two bedrooms and access to west facing sun-deck and garden with view across valley. Ali and her husband John ("J") are super hosts and we found them excellent company, though I am sure they would let you be if you wanted privacy. They property is up a hill about two miles out of Sidmouth so your own car is probably a necessity, especially as taxis can be hit and miss in the evenings. We really loved our stay.

We enjoy welcoming guests to our relaxed bohemian family home. You are welcome to use any of our communal areas including the Kitchen. This single room is small but cosy with a comfortable single bed, with a mattress bought recently. I offer a range of delicious breakfast options and I have extensive experience cooking vegan and vegetarian, gluten, dairy free, paleo food. There are building works being carried out next door but the developer is very considerate. We have a friendly cat.
Our cottage is situated at the back of the high street and on the whole is very quiet, at the same time offering the convenience of being near the train station and town amenities.
Honiton is a bustling town with lots of amenities from independent shops to High Street retailers. There are some good places to eat, and if you're feeling adventurous and willing to go further afield there are some astonishingly good places to eat (The Pig, The Jack in the Green, River Cottage Canteen). • Radka & Hayden have created a really nice space with thoughtful and practical touches. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and a good touch of character. It's an annexe attached to their house but it felt totally private and had everything needed for a short stay. If I'm coming back to the Sidmouth area at any point I'd be keen to stay here again.

  • The accommodation is self contained, with a private entrance and en suite; you access it directly from the driveway on the ground floor. It was spotlessly clean, the bed was very large and comfortable and I loved the rainfall shower. It's not a huge space but was perfect for our needs. The town is a short drive away, but you can get the bus nearby (a three-minute walk) if you're planning to have a drink or don't want to bother with parking and I understand there's a pub within walking distance, although we didn't try it out. (We at at Dukes Inn and can recommend!) We requested the booking very last minute but Radka was unflappable and made it happen for us, despite some technical difficulties with AirBnB - thank you Radka! We definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we are in the area.

  • Perfect place to stay for visiting the donkey sanctuary and for Sidmouth and surrounding area. The Annex was lovely with all the equipment we needed like toaster, fridge and tea/coffee and kettle. We also found complimentary bad of fudge which we enjoyed. The bed was lovely and comfy and everywhere was perfectly clean. Radka and Hayden are great hosts and we will recommend them to anyone

The Garden Studio is a Detached purpose built contemporary living space tucked away in our garden (we can't see you and you can't see us) within about 15 mins level riverside walk through a park to shops, esplanade and the sea. Private deck and lawn space which is a mass of bluebells and daffodils in the spring. LUXURY bed Linen and superb White Company towels. Lovely rural walks within 2/300 yards. Well insulated, double glazed and oak flooring. A convenient cabin and ideal 'reading' retreat.
You are quite private with your own pedestrian access through our garden ( and newly planted small orchard which is full of daffodils and bluebells in the spring) so can come and go as you like. The Studio was purpose built about 9 years ago and is well insulated, double glazed with a large sliding door and is cedar clad. It has oak flooring with a small decked area to the front. The Studio measures about 4 x 6 metres and is 2.10 m high inside (or 6ft 9ins) so please take this into account if you are very tall. We aim to make your stay a lovely experience with LUXURY, WHITE COMPANY hydro cotton towels including very large bath sheets as well as bed linen from The Secret Linen Company and a KING SIZE BED with a lovely comfortable mattress. Retro 'Eames' chairs and designer bedside tables. There are also two HANDMADE Gabbeh-Qashqai tribal rugs made by nomads from Persia. These touches of luxury complete the picture. There are games such as chess, Boggle, backgammon and playing cards and lots of books if it's a wet day. An ideal retreat for short escapes and those who love the idea of living in a 'cabin'. PS We also supply free slippers which you can take home when you leave. One less thing for you to pack for your visit. The Studio is in a PET FREE environment. For bird lovers, spring and early summer is a cacophony of bird song with our own Tawny Owl who lives in the trees nearby a Green Woodpecker and Nightjars on the common nearby.
It is a quiet residential area which is readily accessible by foot , (about 15 mins) to the shops, pubs, beach and sea via a lovely level riverside walk called The Byes by the River Sid where you might see the kingfishers or if you are REALLY lucky, an otter. There are many other walks right on hand including wild flower meadows and we will leave maps with routes marked. The Norman Lockyer Observatory is on the top of Salcombe Hill only about a mile or so from us and is a great place to explore the heavens. They often have open nights. Just check on the internet. The South West Coastal Path and the Jurassic Coast is right on hand with stunning walks that emanate virtually from the doorstep of The Garden Studio. There is a cycle path close by to the beach/town if you fancy exploring the area on your bikes and a lockable bike shed right next to the Studio to keep them in . The Donkey Sanctuary is only about 1.5 miles away and is a great half day out with many attractions not least being that its FREE.

  • We had a lovely time staying at The Garden Studio. It was immaculately clean, well designed and decorated, and has everything you need. Ian met us on arrival, and Carol and Ian’s communication prior to our visit was great. There are lots of nice touches, including a bookcase with a range of books. As it was February, we didn’t use the garden much, but the space was lovely with some spring flowers starting to bloom. The location is perfect, easy access to Sidmouth town centre, and lots to do in the area. We would highly recommend staying here!

Everything is also sparkling clean. We received a warm welcome and were given amazing breakfasts, which included delicious fresh fruit salad and homemade jam. The dogs are also lovely and very calm and gentle. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay with Carla and Martin. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.

I absolutely love living here, not only am I at the heart of an area of outstanding natural beauty, but have the amazing Jurassic coastline on my doorstep. The town of Sidmouth is so friendly and we have everything you could want: pubs, restaurants, a cinema, a theatre, a swimming pool and many local shops. A direct bus route links me to the city of Exeter so what more could I want. I tell all my friends to come and see for themselves. It's great.

This lovely spacious cottage is adjacent to the owner's house, set in 3 acres of gardens and beautiful countryside in the heart of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's a great base for walking, cycling, touring, shopping, eating and drinking ...and curling up in front of the log fire. Sidbury village is a 20 min walk away. And Sidmouth, on the Jurassic Coast, is just a 4 mile drive. A few days at Filcombe will leave you relaxed, refreshed and keen to come back!
Filcombe Farm Cottage is a converted coach house and hayloft - from the days when Filcombe was a working dairy farm. It has been refurbished to a high standard in a contemporary style. We aim to create a home from home experience whether you stay for two nights or two weeks. The kitchen is well equipped and there's a comfortable dining area. The cosy sitting room has lots of guide books and maps to help you plan your time in East Devon. And if you prefer to curl up on the sofas in front of the log burner, there's a bookcase full of novels, piles of magazines, games puzzles and a selection of DVDs. And a plentiful supply of logs. Upstairs you will find a large bathroom - perfect for unwinding after a day walking, touring ... or shopping. The peaceful bedroom looks out over the owner's vegetable garden. Guests are welcome to pick fruit from the trees in the orchard in season. The heated outdoor swimming pool is in the sunniest spot in the garden. It is usually open May to September and guests are welcome to use it on request. Pool towels are available in the separate changing room where there's a shower and toilet. You are welcome to explore the 3 acres of gardens - woodland, lawns, beds and a stream. There's a small treehouse too if you fancy heading back to your childhood! There's space for outdoor dining as well as a BBQ on request. We provide a small welcome hamper - enough for a simple evening meal or a cooked breakfast along with tea and coffee. The hamper usually contains bacon, sausage, bread, butter, milk and eggs - so please let us know of any dietary requirements when you book (vegetarian, vegan, gluten or dairy free etc).
The Sid Valley is part of the East Devon AONB - rolling hills, farmland, villages, woodland and of course the beautiful Jurassic Coast. Guests like to get out and about in the local area, and also make day trips further afield travelling to Dorset, Somerset, Cornwall, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Bristol etc. Visitors also find the cottage just the right space to relax and unwind - large and comfortable enough to stay put in the cottage and gardens. We've had musicians compose here, and couples celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and even get engaged! We've had people like the area so much they decided to move house! Whatever the reason for your trip you will receive a very warm welcome.
  • A really gem of a find -gorgeous, peaceful setting. Fantastic accommodation - attention to detail was fabulous as was the breakfast hamper and birthday prosecco. Highly recommend staying at Nancy & Louisa's place.

    Judith2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty cottage next to owners house in large gardens in a beautiful quiet location. Very spacious for two. Nancy was very welcoming and helpful. Very generous welcome pack of supplies. One of the best rentals we have experienced.

    Gill2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • By far our favourite cottage (and we've tried a few). Nancy and Louise clearly enjoy hosting and go to great lengths to add personal touches and small surprises. The cottage itself is beautiful, spacious, and sparkling clean. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

    Fabian2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy's cottage was everything we hoped for - it is very well equipped (with lots of thoughtful touches from Nancy like the breakfast hamper/tea/coffee etc and great cooking facilities) and spotlessly clean. We spent a lot of time at the cottage as we travelled in January and felt perfectly at home. We'd love to return some day!

    Beth2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here, very well located for quick drives to neighbouring seaside towns. The place was sparkling clean and had everything we needed for the two night stay. We loved the log burner and the views. Perfect for a couple who wishing to get away from it all. Thank you Nancy and Louisa!

    Tom2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy little cottage. Super clean. So peaceful, surrounded by beautiful countryside. A good base to explore surrounding areas. Nancy is the loveliest host.

    Caroline2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy and Louisa’s stay was absolutely perfect - beautifully decorated and super cosy with the log fire and squishy sofas (we were almost grateful for the wet weather to curl up and stay inside!). The hamper was delicious and Nancy left us a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate my partner’s birthday whilst we were there - very thoughtful touches and much appreciated!

    Alex2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was the first time we stayed with a "superhost" in Devon, and found the description apt. Nancy and Louisa were as friendly and welcoming as you could possibly wish. The property is a lovely converted old farm building, situated near to but detached from the main farmhouse and with beautiful gardens around. You could not get more rural. Everything has been thought of. The wood-burning stove ready to light, plentiful leaflets and information about local activities, lots of interesting books. The kitchen was perfect and the whole place clean and thoughtfully done. Everything we needed was to hand. We were even supplied with breakfast items and cider, and invited to the cider making the family and friends were doing that weekend! Only one thing to be aware of - the bedroom is in the eaves so it's easy to bang your head in the dark. Also, take care to notice the speed bump going into the drive if you're arriving late. We were okay, but can imagine it may catch a few people out.

Bright sunny seafront apartment with stunning sea views, located within a majestic Regency period building. Close to all amenities, yards from the beach and perfect location for either setting out on coastal walks along the spectacular Jurassic coastline, or strolls along the delightful Esplanade.
Sit and relax in the bright, sunny lounge, whether it be enjoying a good novel or simply gazing out across the panoramic sea view. Watching the to-ing and fro-ing of the boats and swimmers in the sea below. A view possibly equalled but rarely bettered.
Sidmouth is a delightful coastal Regency town, unspoiled by the passage of time. The apartment is close to all amenities including restaurants, bars, independent retail shops, cinema, theatre and indoor public swimming pool.

  • The Aspect was the perfect spot to watch the sea - one day it was the sea splashing over the prom, thankfully the next day the sun shining on the ocean. A lovely little apartment with everything you need for a stay at the seaside.. We had no problem parking outside the three day we stayed.

  • Great location - amazing views

    Emily2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • The Aspect has the best view and location. I could spend hours just looking at the sea through the window. Finbarr is an excellent host and great at providing information. The apartment is light and bright. It is central and within easy walking distance of the local shops and restaurants. The bed is super comfortable. There is a small wardrobe which you share with the hoover. There are storage crates under the bed. We only had space in the living area to leave luggage but this didn’t bother us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

In a stunning rural location and only 4 miles from the Jurassic coast, The Granary cottage is beautifully equipped with outstanding westerly views over the lawns and tennis court to the surrounding countryside. The heated pool is open from the beginning of May to end of September and is shared with a small number of other guests. Games room, tennis court. Well behaved dogs are welcome and there are lovely walks all around. Historic Colyton is 2 miles away with local pubs, eateries and shops.
Liz and Gordon provide a warm welcome and the cottage is extensively equipped with welcome pack of basic food, household and toiletry items, so you can cut down on your packing. It has a private garden with furniture and barbeque. All linen and towels (two each) are provided. The twin bedroom is quite small for two adults. One bed rolls under the other for one adult occupancy.
Our lovely small town of Colyton is well worth getting to know. It's steeped in history and earned it's name as 'The most rebellious town in Devon' during the Monmouth Rebellion. You can learn a lot by visiting the Heritage Centre in the town.
  • Have just returned from Colyton with my two daughters aged 13 and 10. We had a fantastic break and found the Granary to be cosy and set in beautiful countryside. One of the highlights was watching the stars at night from the bedroom skylights. Great location for exploring the coast. We loved Beer and Lyme Regis. We had a thoroughly relaxing few days and can’t recommend enough !

  • What a beautiful place! Cosy accommodation and the perfect spot to enjoy the area, within easy reach of the sea as well as other local attractions.

    Jane2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage and a fantastic part of the country. Highly recommended.

    Jo2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage in superb location! Liz and Gordon are great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Gordon lent us some local walking maps. The cottage (converted granary next to main house) is deceptively large. Nice ground floor sitting room, kitchen with table and bench seats, then a double room and two singles in a further room which our kids loved. We didn’t have great weather when we were there but the cottage was warm and comfortable. There is a small private fenced rear garden but this is just a small part of large well maintained grounds with tennis court and swimming pool (sadly closed as our visit was in October). Our kids enjoyed the games room with table football, pool and table tennis. Lots of parking is available. The location is great - just off a quiet country lane and, the Jurassic Coast is just 4 miles away. We enjoyed fish and chips, fossil hunting, long walks on the beach and local pubs. Thoroughly recommend.

    Simon2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay. Perfect for a few days walking. The Granary has everything you could need with lots of thoughtful touches. We would definitely recommend it.

    Alexandra2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Liz and Gordon's place over October half term. They were very hospitable and especially helpful with advice on local walks. Gordon loaned me two maps and also gave us a bag of orchard apples which are delicious! The cottage itself was very well equipped and warm. And the garden, games room and tennis court were a particular bonus.

    Lucy2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • It was the rainiest holiday I’d ever had, but with the outdoor pool and indoor games room there was no cause for boredom. The cottage is situated in a very quiet and peaceful setting with no street lights, so, on a clear moonless night the Milky Way is in full glory. It’s close enough to the coast too, about ten minutes to Seaton and twenty minutes to Lyme Regis; our favourite though was Sidmouth with its charming town centre filled with boutique shops and eateries and only a stones throw from the seafront.

  • Rachel's cottage was perfect. We booked at less than 24 hours notice, yet she was as kind as could be. We especially appreciated the fresh bread, eggs and milk. We look forward to visiting again!

  • Wonderful, cosy little nook in the Devon countryside and absolutely what we needed. Warm, homely and brilliantly equipped for us and our daughter - the only additional cost has been having to acquire our own panda after someone didn’t want to leave the cottage resident behind! Well placed for access to Sidmouth and Exeter. Thoroughly recommended.

Sidmouth lies on the Jurassic coast in East Devon. It is surrounded by wonderful countryside giving access to glorious shingle/sandy beaches, red sandstone cliffs, the River Sid valley, coastal woodland and open heathland. The small town is delightful with a variety of independent shops, many cafes and restaurants, a museum, theatre and cinema (showing all live transmissions) and an indoor swimming pool . We are a town of Festivals and love to welcome people with a wide diversity of interests.
The Annex itself is completely independent, all fresh and clean with a lovely south west facing outside patio overlooking our beautiful garden and the Sid Valley. We hope you will find everything you need in the kitchen - a hot water/central heating boiler (which keeps the accomodation lovely and cosy), fridge, cooker, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. The adjoining lounge is comfortable with extensive views. Wi-Fi is strong here and the TV has Freeview and a DVD player. Upstairs you will find the lovely open plan bedroom and bathroom with comfortable king size bed, slipper bath, quadrant shower and a separate loo. The views over the valley and coast are stunning. Superb original photography decorates the walls. The Annex is up the east side of the Sid Valley and guests always comment on how convenient we are for both the town and the country. Our area is a very quiet area but you will be only a short walk from the town, the Promenade and The Byes ( 8 - 10 mins). In Spring 2020 the new bridge over the Sid opens on the Ham and we are well placed to enjoy this lovely new feature of the town. The exciting Mitch Tonks 'Rockfish' restaurant will be opening in the Summer too, nearby and over the new bridge. (Worth booking in advance!) You can easily walk to the east or west along the South West Coast Path from The Annex with glorious views over Lyme Bay. There are also useful local buses to either take you along your chosen route or bring you back. There is lovely warm sea swimming from a choice of beaches which are also good places to relax. The Byes just below us provides gentle level walking too with glorious trees. We are perfectly placed for The Donkey Sanctuary and if you wish to explore further, the pretty coastal villages of Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe, Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth are a short drive away. There is an excellent bus service to the exciting city of Exeter or you can use the well located Park and Ride to explore the world class Cathedral and Museum as well as John Lewis and the Princesshay Shopping Centre. Something for everyone! Do come and join us!
We are in a peaceful residential area up above the town. There are 2 ways down to the town and the sea - Hillside Road and Cliff Road (which is now the SW Coast Path). Down in the town along the Byes and the Promenade there is level walking and access to many interesting buildings and independent shops.
  • This is a great space. The pictures are accurate, but they don't convey the location or the setting, which is perfect. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

  • Jill’s a great host and her annex is fantastic, you won’t be disappointed! It’s clean, airy and spacious and has a lovely lofty position overlooking Sidmouth. It’s just a short (but hilly!) walk from the town and the coast path, and Jill’s assembled lots of info on things to do in the area. I’d definitely recommend a stay there.

    Kevin2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for both the town of Sidmouth & coastal footpath.

    Trevor2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a relaxing stay at oak cottage enjoying the lovely views over Sidmouth and soaking in the very comfortable bath. Jill was very friendly and met us on arrival to welcome us to the annexe and was on hand if needed without being intrusive. The annexe is peaceful and comfortable and with its own entrance feels like a private country cottage. The location is great as it’s short scenic walk into the town passing a pretty park and river. We would stay again at Oak cottage and recommend to others.

    Christopher2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jill's place is the perfect place to get some rest, visit Sidmouth, discover a quiet life. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathtub felt like a 5-star hotel. The kitchen has all the cookware needed. Special mention for the amazing sofa, view and the large cupboard !! Going to the Annex feels like coming home to somewhere you've never been to. Thank you Jill!!

    Laetitia2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at Jill’s place. Walking distance to the town where there are shops and a good selection of restaurants. The weather was terrible when we stayed so we didn’t get the full outdoor experience but we still had a lovely time. Lovely warm and clean space, would recommend.

    Tori2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Annexe was perfect, it had everything that we needed and the location is great. Jill was a brilliant host, we will definitely be staying there again.

Our cosy, luxury, 1 bedroom annex has just been completely renovated to offer a comfortable, relaxing and quiet stay for our guests. A 10-15 minute walk to the beach! The annex has its own access door via the sunny courtyard with outdoor seating and lovely views of the Devon hills. There is a well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar for two. There is a powerful shower with a large bath. The bedroom has a TV also. Freshly baked bread, cereal, milk, tea/coffee is included, see below for details.
The annex is a self contained unit, it is joined to the main house. There is a key lock to come and go as you please. The Old Coach House is a beautiful period property, lovingly refurbished with great features and character. Perfectly proportioned for large groups of 10. Plenty of interior space with ample sized rooms and bathrooms. Wonderfully located near the Jurassic coastline and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Originally a 17th Century Foundry which burnt down in the late 18th Century. A georgian terrace was built in its place. The deceptively sized house is spread over 3 floors, 5 spacious bedrooms, 4 with their own bathroom or ensuite (1 twin bedroom on the top floor is separated with large curtains) and large open plan social areas to unwind in. The house has many original features.
Sidbury is set within the Sid Valley and is in close proximity of many coastal points of interest including Sidmouth, Beer, Branscombe, Budleigh Salterton, Ladram Bay, Seaton and Lyme Regis. It is a beautiful, mainly thatched village with lots of popular walks. Take a stroll down Bridge street (featured on the tv) and explore the Millenium field, with its large pond, seating and wooded area, its a great place to walk the dogs or unwind with the children. Finish off with a visit to the local dog friendly pub with a children friendly skittle alley with toys. There is also children's play park and football pitch up Greenhead lane.
  • Had high expectations for the house which were certainly met! Very nice place, would recommend.

    Edward2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house was just perfect for our stay of ten people. Beds were very comfortable and had everything at our disposal. Sidbury is a lovely peaceful, friendly place and the host was very helpful.

  • A great house for a large family/ group. Great for kids and some nice touches (toys/ books etc). Very clean. Large lounge and kitchen. Good location and a churchyard over the road and small field not far away to walk your dog.

    Adam2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time here. The rooms are exactly as photographed, and the main sitting room is huge - easily loads of room for eight people to sit and chat. Lucy was super-responsive and very helpful. Her husband came out to mend something on one of the Twixmas days, and was really nice about it even though it was meant to be a day off for him. The house is really comfortable and cosy, and the kitchen is very well stocked. We had such a lovely time and were really sad to go! It felt as though Lucy and Sam really care, and want their guests to enjoy themselves.

  • We spent this Christmas at the coach house in Sidbury and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We had 7 adults and 2 children staying for 4 days. The house was great - very spacious and well equipped, and also nicely decorated for Christmas. The location was also great being just a 5/10 minute drive from the coast. Would highly recommend staying here! Thank you to Lucy for being a great host

    Blake2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Character property near to great places to visit.

  • This is a really stylish property with very comfortable accommodation perfect for families or a group of friends to get together. Has plenty of good sized bedrooms with bathrooms and big sitting room and kitchen for gathering for meals and socializing. Right in centre of village with quaint village shop and friendly pub. Good location for exploring the coast and walking.

  • We stayed with our friends, 4 adults and 4 young children. The house was perfect for families and had everything we needed. Lucy was quick to respond to any questions we had and the house was immaculate. The large kitchen space is great for large families and the bedrooms are spacious and clean. Every room has a fan and both of the main bedrooms have large en suites. A great location to explore this part of Devon. Thank you
