Located on a very isolated part of The Lost Coast about 40 minutes from Redway, CA. Walking distance from Cape Mendocino Lighthouse, Seal Rock, Abalone Point, Little Black Sands Beach, Delgada Pizza and Bakery, The Fish Tank coffee shop, etc. Within 5 miles of the Lost Coast trail head, Black Sands Beach and King Range National Conservation. Nearby shuttle available for Lost Coast hikers.
Shelter Cove is a very small coastal town located on a very isolated part of The Lost Coast. The cell phone reception is terrible (make sure to screen shot your directions before heading out), but the views are breathtaking. There is a deli that is open most days until early evening, a coffee shop open most days until 2:00 p.m. Delgada Pizza and Bakery (the best food in town and the only place open after 6 p.m. for food) and Mario's, a Fisherman's bar near the boat ramp, also an early night closer.
  • THis is the only Airbnb site at a VERY isolated part of the north coast of California known as the Lost Coast. If is not easy to get to, but worth it, if you are a bit adventurous and willing to make the drive. Davis driving during daylight hours. Amanda and Dan are delightful, welcoming hosts.

  • Dan and Amanda are great! Very responsive! Great place.

  • Great spot in the middle of the Lost Coast, and well worth the drive to get there. Amanda and Dan were super friendly and really helpful, and the room was as described.

  • it was "okay"- not to good, but not the worst either. the bed aka air mattress was not what we expected. anything else was alright

    Jonas2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The town is very nice and so ishe Amanda. Their pizza recommendation is very good

    Esai2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda and Dan are awesome! I had a great night with them! The place is clean, comfortable and with a kickass view of the ocean =)

    Mandy2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda and Dan are nice hosts. The place is very close to the ocean. You can hear the waves from the room, if you open the window!

    Simy2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is as bare bones of a place as you are likely to ever find! A small room on an economy air mattress covered by a single sheet (think noise and sweat) with no chair in the room. The apartment is a rather large 3 rooms, however the master bedroom is used as an office, so the hosts sleep in the living room, making the large kitchen the only real communal area. However, this little corner of the world is worth seeing. And Amanda and Dan are a young, intelligent and industrious couple that are worth meeting! And I would imagine that by the time you read this the will have more of the creature comforts sorted out, in which case we would return.

Our Ocean Paradise is spacious and well equipped for a family vacation. It has an unobstructed ocean view where you can enjoy amazing sunsets and whale watching. The main floor has an open floor plan for entertaining. It is walking distance from tide pools and the beach, where you can play with your kids, surf, boogie board, fish, launch a boat or a kayak. There is also a private upstairs deck off the master bedroom to enjoy the fresh air and a beautiful view of the ocean and coastline.
The high ceilings of our house and the generous size of our living room and kitchen will provide plenty of open space. The light wood color of our vaulted ceiling brings freshness and light and warmth into spacious living room. In the evening turn on our gas fire place with a flip of a switch, and watch a movie on our wide screen TV. We have 2 exercise machines for your enjoyment.
We are located right next to the ocean, with amazing views of it, and whales, and birds, and sea lions, and sunsets, etc
  • Shelter Cove is beautiful and remote and this home is just across from the shoreline. Great place to stay and highly recommended. Very weak cell service in this area and no internet access, which was actually a nice change. Access is available at a nearby cafe.

  • If you want to get away to one of the best kept secrets and one of the most beautiful locations on the California Cost, there is no place better than Shelter Cove. Nestled in the redwoods, on the Lost Coast, it is beautifully stunning. This house is beautiful and right next to the water overlooking the ocean. We call it the piano house. It easily can accommodate 3 couples. There is an airstrip, boating, fishing, golfing, a few restaurants and they are building a small microbrewery. It is the best place to get away from it all.

  • Great communication from David. Everything was just as posted. House looks like new. We had 5 adults and 3 children under 5 and had a wonderful experience. Watched planes come and go and deer nearby daily. We plan to return next year and hope this home is available again.

AVENUE OF THE GIANTS. River frontage camp on 15 private acres with redwoods and lovely meadow. Near Humboldt Redwoods State Parks. This is a campground but with two sleeping cabins, each sleeps two. Swim, kayak, and sing around the campfire. Pet-friendly. Hot water outdoor shower. Two bathrooms. For more than four guests bring tents and sleeping bags. Fresh water, outdoor shower. Outdoor kitchen and picnic tables, cooktop & BBQ. Grocery, gas and cafe less than a mile away.
This 15 acre campground is at the end of the private drive. Although this is a campground there are two small sleeping cabins each sleeps two people. There is an outdoor kitchen complete with running water, utensils, pots and pans, a three burner stove and a barbecue, plus tables for preparation and eating.
This campground is at the end of the private drive and is very private. The property is surrounded by redwoods, douglas fir, pepperwood, laurel and other trees. But, there is a meadow and plenty of sunshine. There is direct access to the Eel River and beachfront from a trial right at the campsite.
  • Our stay was very enjoyable. We found everything to be just great. Fantastic location and awesome natural beauty. Best location to enjoy Avenue of Giants and the redwoods.

  • What a lovely, peaceful place to bring our large family glamping. My husband and I stayed in the cosy cottage which stayed cool. The kids decided to sleep on a tarp in the meadow to watch the amazing stars. It was so easy to make and serve meals for a large group of people. Jeanette's kitchen has a nice porclean sink, large 3 burner stove and a large, easy to use BBQ which we used as an oven as well, making a large quiche in a cookie sheet. There is abundant comfortable seating and a wonderful camp fire. We brought our own wood and spent many happy hours morning and night sitting around the fire telling stories, playing games and just being together. We have 5 boys who love back packing and roughing it and I prefer a place I can get a hot shower, sleep in a bed and have a easy place to cook. This was a perfect blend for our family. Often a rental comes with huge deposit and cleaning fees. Marc and Jeanette do not tack on those fees and that made staying here with a large group affordable. We had a joyful, peaceful time and can't wait to come back. Louis and Linda Altic.

    Linda2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Marc and his wife met us at the site. They gave us a detailed description of how to get there from Hwy 101. It's super easy and quick! It's at the end of a lane and out of earshot of neighbors. The place has a big open meadow, which is perfect for stargazing. There are lots of redwoods and you can mosey down to the river. There are two tiny houses that are adorable and comfortable. The bathrooms and outdoor shower are functional and have hot water. We loved lounging around the fire pit, the hammock, and the many picnic tables. Solar lights are scattered around, along with battery powered lanterns. The outdoor kitchen was very functional, and includes a sink with running water! Yay! We are lucky we found this place at the last minute: I wanted a place where my mom could get a comfortable, quiet night's sleep, my adult children could camp or sleep indoors, and I could sleep under the stars and swim in a river. AND my son had to bring his dog, which excludes us from lots of places. We got more than we asked for! Marc and his wife supplied s'mores ingredients, toilet paper, and so many other amenities that they also use for their family gatherings. Thanks so much!

    Ingrid2016-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location. Kind and generous hosts. We had a wonderful vacation here with people of all ages (grandparents all the way to an infant).

  • If You ever have the opportunity to bring your friends and family to the miranda campground you will be delighted beyond believe. The scenic views are amazing. The guest houses have everything you need for a comfortable night's sleep, the facilities are in excellent working order. The best part is the private river access where you will find shallow waters for younger kids and camp chairs and also deeper waters for swimming all within a few hundred yards of the access point. Mark and Jeanette were the most kind and gracious hosts and went out of their way to accommodate us in every way possible. The hot showers make mornings so enjoyable and the flushing toilets are a luxury not often found in these environments. My daughters and friends all want to come back and do this every year.

    Jason2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best camping experience I have ever had. The place is adorable. Cabins are bigger than I expected and the view was fantastic. Marc and his wife were amazing hosts. They even left us stuff for Smores. Lots of extra amenities here - you don't need to pack much when you stay here. Pretty much bring your food, clothes and toys the rest is pretty much already there for you. Surprisingly the outdoor kitchen was so nice to have. Running water sink, fully ready three burner camp stove and a BBQ ready to fire up. Ample place to prepare your meals and tons of places to sit and eat. Also to note, large spot for a fire and lots of chairs around it. Large picnic tables for playing games (which they have provided a bunch) and places for younger kids to play. The river is gorgeous, unfortunately we went too late in the season to enjoy it but we will absolutely be booking again for next summer. Thank you to the hosts!!!

    Kimberley2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing property and minutes away from Humboldt park!! The cabin is rustic but very comfortable, the outdoor shower is fantastic and to top it off, the property has acces to the river! Marc and Jeanette are amazing hosts!!! We had an amazing time and we plan to be back soon!!!!

    Fernanda2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised, Marc's property provides campers with everything you could want for a river experience. Having a fully stocked kitchen meant we could just show up with our food and not have to worry about anything else. The cabins were perfect for those who needed a full nights rest. The river was epic!

Come enjoy our sweet 1940's rooms and cottages on the famous "Avenue of the Giants" in Humboldt County! Room 4 has a private bathroom, TV, heating, and a full size bed. With all the amenities of a larger room, this room is priced economically.
Peaceful, rural, quiet setting at the southern entrance to the AVENUE OF THE GIANTS. Walking distance to one of the first dedicated redwood groves.
  • We loved staying at Madronas Motel! It was so cosy and she was so helpful - She and her Husband took us to the river the next morning and we enjoyed talking with them - a very heartful, personal contact! Your grandchildren were also very sweet with our 7-month old daughter. We would love to come back, whenever we visit the States again!

  • Dotti and Graham were both wonderful hosts and the place we stayed in was exactly what we needed. The inn room was much larger than we expected, and actually quite nice given that we were in the middle of the woods. We were also given a fridge and microwave which were great since there aren't a ton of food options in the town (there is a town about ten minutes away with more food.) The amenities are fairly decent -- wifi is a little spotty if that's important, but you can get phone service here. Place is clean and quite comfy! What really stood out about my experience with Dotti and Graham is how welcoming they were. They came over, brought some juice and dip, and we chatted a bit about each other's backgrounds. It was a wonderful way to find home somewhere far away, and what AirBnb really stands for. That was a wonderful experience.

    Jasmine2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • We liked: the host's communication with us before our stay; the location on the Avenue of the Giants; the cleanliness of the bathroom; the beginning efforts at renovation in our room (new floor and paint.) We didn't like: the general run-down appearance of the property; doors in disrepair; cobwebs all around our entry door; cats and open cans of cat food on the property.

    Cathy2016-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • This little motel has a lot of potential, it's in a great location on the edge of the redwood forest. We stayed one night only and where warmly welcomed. Our original room had an issue with the bed so we where quickly relocated to another room. Highly recommend going to the chimney tree for food, great for children.

    Nicole2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Didn't actually stay in #4, the unit was being repaired or something so we stayed in unit 5 which was right next door. It was kind of nice since we had the whole place to ourselves. The room wasn't huge but it was as described. Plenty of room to put our bags for 2 people, had cable and a fridge, decent sized bathroom, towels, etc. They even provided maps and gave us a number to call if anything came up. No info on check in after I sent a message asking about what we need to do. Had to call the number they had on their office door as they weren't around but they immediately picked up and after that the confusion was settled and the check in/check out was smooth. Would definitely recommend if you are coming to stay in the area to see the redwoods!

    Jimmy2016-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • If you're on a budget and want a good location, this is the place. The price is less than the surrounding area and the accessibility to Avenue of the Giants is unparalleled. However, not that nice of a place to stay. Sorta old. But we also didn't get to spend time with the hosts, which everyone else says they're awesome.

    Steven2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you like Twin Peaks you'll love this place! I was expecting the Log Lady to appear around the corner at any time. 'Quaint' '40's cabins that were updated in the '70's have their charms but are in need of a retro update to their true Art Deco cabin in the woods origins. Their appears to be some locals living in some of the rooms and I'll leave it to your imagination as to what that looks like. All in all we slept well and moved right along to the Ave. Of the Giants.

    Lance2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were promptly welcomed upon arrival and shown to our room. Everything was great, very comfortable sleeping and a nice little room. As a cat lover, I enjoyed making friends with the friendly grey cat. There is a bar and places to eat nearby, some within walking distance. Overall a great one night stay for my boyfriend and I!

Hello, Please read all the way through this listing carefully before requesting to book. Thank you. Perched on top of a secluded hilltop in the wilderness, the handcrafted redwood Tower is an adventurous and inspiring place to be. A 'box of light', the three sides of windows look out onto beautiful views. Romantic and peaceful, the Tower is a perfect couple's or artist's/writer's retreat. Take a dip in the sparkling Mattole river just over the road below. Enjoy the spectacular bird-life. The wild Mattole Beach is just six miles away and makes for great hiking and beachcombing. ** IMPORTANT!** The Tower is accessed by a steep uphill trail of wooden dirt steps through Douglas Firs. The trail is a 520ft climb - a substantial 5-7 minute uphill hike. Light bags and backpacks rather than suitcases are strongly advised. This rental is not suitable for those who ought not be taking this kind of hike. For night ascent/descent a flashlight is essential. **Important Check-in info** The Tower is a property that needs a guide to show you up there initially. It is quite hidden, and you’ll benefit from a quick orientation up there. Check-in before dark please. The upper storey of the Tower has a Murphy bed (small double), which measures 4ft across and is 6.5 ft long from headboard to footboard. If you are quite tall it may not be comfortable due to the footboard. See pic. This room also has a long comfortable sofa, Deco chairs, redwood window seats and a long cherrywood table. The Tower is on two floors, connected by an outside staircase. So *PLEASE NOTE* As the bathroom is on the lower floor you will need to go down the outside stairs to the bathroom. Downstairs is the bathroom, shower and well-equipped kitchen in one open plan room. The kitchen area includes a Wedgewood stove. (There is also a copper sink upstairs for easy teeth-brushing etc). The spring water is excellent for drinking. The lower storey also houses water tanks, wrapped in canvas painted by a local artist. Relax beneath the stars in the outdoor in-ground copper bath tub, with plenty of space for two and a small surrounding deck for glasses of wine, or take a shower outside, looking out onto the hills. Enjoy ceramicist Jim Danisch's sculptures punctuating the trail. In collaboration with Petrolia's craftspeople the Tower was designed by my father, a writer and lover of art. For groceries, the local Petrolia store has most basics (including a gas pump) but its provisions are non-organic so please bring your own special groceries if that's your desire. There are no bars or restaurants in Petrolia. qBear in mind that the Petrolia Store closes at 5.30pm, so be sure to bring groceries with you if you're arriving later than that, especially for that first night's dinner! At the bottom of the hill is the main house, where I will be on hand to help out as best I can with any queries and extra conveniences. Details and directions upon booking. To enable a real break and total relaxation, the Tower remains UNPLUGGED! NO WIFI! There is very limited cell service in Petrolia! But fear not, there is an old-fashioned landline available for your private use. Wifi is available on the porch of the community centre, a five minute drive away. Petrolia is off the beaten track and lies at the end of a very winding, rugged road with potholes a-plenty. Ordinary cars can make it, but if you are hiring a car you will be better off hiring an all wheel or 4 wheel drive that is higher off the ground. Be prepared for a real rural retreat. This is the wilderness, and there is a lot of wildlife around! The tower is right in the wilderness atop a hill, so be prepared to hear and see animals around. Come to our small local farmer's market on Sunday mornings 10-1pm for breakfast and local products. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your interest in The Lost Coast Tower!
  • Daisy was lovely and the tower magical. It was a very, very special, peaceful, and inspiring stay. I can't recommend it highly enough!

    Elizabeth2014-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 nights at the Tower and enjoyed the sense of silence, privacy and simple, rustic elegance it offers. The only neighbours up there are cows and the occasional deer. It gave us a sense of what it might be like to live in such a small and close-knit community, and the beauty of the area is breath-taking. Daisy was an attentive host and made sure we had everything we needed. The long walk up the hill was a bit of a shocker at first, especially as we had to shlep our cooler with groceries up, but we grew to love it. It's not for the faint of heart though (and Daisy does warn you in her listing). I loved the plain cotton bedding that smelled as if it had dried on the line in the sun and breeze. My favourite moment was soaking in the outdoor copper tub at sunset drinking an ice cold Moscow Mule after a full day of beach hiking . Pretty darn nice.

    Marianne2014-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment I saw the listing for the Lost Coast Tower, I knew it would be a magical place. Very much off the beaten track, our time in tiny, quiet Petrolia and at the tower was immensely relaxing and rejuvenating. From the outdoor shower and copper tub to the robust Wedgwood gas stove in the kitchen to the lovingly designed, hand-built and furnished space, it was a perfect combination of luxurious and rustic. The short, steep trail up to the tower is a true hike, but once you arrive at the top you you discover a retreat you'd like to stay in for days. Be sure to stock up on groceries before you turn off 101, and take the evenings to cook in the kitchen and eat outside by the tub overlooking the fields and the hills in the distance. The tower is stocked with maps and books, and a large old Tanoak tree drapes over the upstairs deck. Our host, Daisy, was just down the hill, wonderfully welcoming and helpful, and let us know we could call on her at any time. She generously left an array of locally made bath salts, soap, oil and balm for us to use in the tower. 2 glorious beaches nearby were dotted with tidepools and strewn with knotted driftwood. In early July, we were nearly the only ones there, walking for miles. We will be back, no question!

    Julia2015-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Daisy is a wonderful host and this was a great secluded place to stay at. I stayed there with my boyfriend and we loved everything about it. Comfortable bed. Great bath under the starts. We can't wait to go back.

    Mary2014-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning spot. I highly recommend this rustic retreat. Daisy is lovely and warm. The views are sweet. The woodwork and details will make you swoon. A beautiful and restful holiday.

    Hanna2014-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • This listing is one of a kind. From initial inquiry to arrival Daisy was very communicative and eager to answer any questions. Once she confirms the booking she sends out a very helpful email detailing directions and further information about the tower. The drive through Humboldt State Park was a lovely start to the journey towards the tower. Upon arrival Daisy was a great host: warm, friendly and happy to give local advice. Not to mention, she was very welcoming of our Border Terrier. Petrolia is a small town, to say the least, and everyone we met is very friendly. We even ran into Daisy at the very small farmer's market on Sunday. The Yellow Rose was a nice place to chat with the locals and to learn just how long some of the families have been in the area. About the tower: if you're looking for calm, peace and separation from daily routine then this is the place. The tower sits on top of a hill and the short trek up the path heightens the feeling of its "remoteness". Keep in mind, this path is not for people with limited mobility. The tower is an eclectic but well considered collection of art and it was fun to learn the story behind it all. The main upstairs table is situated near the west windows so it's perfect for dining and sunset watching. It's easy for the hours and days to melt away at the tower. If you're looking to use this as a home base for exploration of The King Range park then I suggest bringing an AWD/4WD high clearance vehicle. The roads to some of the better hiking, of which we did little, requires it. Daisy has a gem here and we are very glad to have experienced it.

    Matthew2014-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the lost coast water tower for our honeymoon, it was an absolute gem. Incredibly charming, tranquil, cozy, and an especially wonderful outside bath! Daisy was wonderful, warm, and responded to any questions we had promptly.

    Shiaosan2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this experience was an absolute pleasure. So great to be out of the hustle bustle of modern life for a few days. Soaking in the tub looking at the stars to chatting with Daisy as we headed out for walks or a dip in the river.

Get away from it all in this large house at an off-grid winery and vineyard. Enjoy spectacular views of the Eel River valley, 3 bedrooms (huge downstairs master suite), a full kitchen, two cozy wood-burning fireplaces, eco-friendly energy, and many more amenities. Please note that Terragena Vineyard is located roughly 30 minutes from the nearest towns, Miranda and Myers Flat, and 25 minutes from the Avenue of the Giants.
This large 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath house was built in 2010 to house the vineyard owners. Amenities include: - three large bedrooms (all towels, linens, and pillows provided) - off-grid solar power and spring water - functions like a typical house, but much more eco-friendly - wide 360 degree porch with beautiful views of the surrounding forests, valleys, and vineyard - three futon couches that can be made up into beds for extra sleeping space - free wifi - 3D smart TV (no cable but access to Netflix), DVD player, and Nintendo Wii - full kitchen with gas stove and oven and a dishwasher (no breakfast, but salt, pepper, a selection of spices, olive oil, sugar, coffee, and small selection of tea provided) - large soaking tub in the huge master suite - outdoor propane grill - 2 wood-burning fireplaces (for use in winter only, firewood provided) - pond for swimming, floating, and cooling off in the summer (a couple of floats and several beach towels are available) - laundry washer and dryer (soap provided) - hiking/walking paths - option for wine tasting and guided vineyard and/or winery tours Also on the property is a yurt than Chris and Nickie lived in before the house was completed. This yurt area is now occupied by a caretaker who takes care of the vineyard. We ask that you respect their privacy.
One of the great things about this property is its remoteness; it provides an excellent retreat from a busy life. There are neighbors nearby, but most people come up to this area for the tranquility and space. Guests should respect the privacy of neighbors. Nearby attractions include Humboldt Redwoods State Park, the Eel River (great for swimming, fishing, and kayaking), the Lost Coast, and several wineries.
  • Stunning property with every amenity you can think of. A bit off the beaten path, but worth the drive up the hill. The home is just gorgeous, you can tell how much love and attention to detail went into building the property. Spacious, beautiful views, lots of space and privacy - so warm and comfortable. Michael, the caretaker was very communicative and checking in/out was a breeze. I can recommend this home highly enough!

  • Thanks to Chris, Nicky, and Michael! This property is amazing, it's a bit off the path, but well worth the drive. The drive in, and out, are part of the overall experience, in my opinion, and a good representation of what it's like to live in Northern California. They were extremely flexible with the reservations, and communication was very good. Chris and Michael were both on site, working away, and more than happy to share their extensive knowledge of wine making, and far more. The house itself is wonderful, super clean, and has everything necessary to be comfortable. It was also nice to get up, and see these guys down there working in the vines. It is certainly a working winery. We tried all of the current wines they had bottled, they were all wonderful in their own way, I'd recommend them. As Chris stated, "It's a labor of love", and you can tell by the wines they produce. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

  • This place has everything you need and more. Beautiful views all around! Spacious with plenty of sitting and and sleeping room. Wonderful movie and book selection. All the dishes and cookware and soaps (very nice) provided. Spices and coffee provided. Wonderful Wine! It's a little slice of heaven you won't want to leave. Down the hill is a very beautiful grove of redwoods and clean river to swim. I had the best time and can't wait to go back. Makes me think I could be a grape grower. Thank you.

  • The house and its location are just amazing. Secluded with great views. Inside the house you will find all the comfort you may look for. Loved the fireplace in the master and the huge bath! A big plus for the "gifts" as well. The check-in was smooth even though we were late and the check-out was seamless. Will come back for sure!

  • If you are looking for a wonderful experience away from the rat race of life, Terragena will sooth your soul.

    jan2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Terragena Vineyard is so worth the drive - which actually is not even that hard of a drive from the Avenue of the Giants. The home is just beautiful and the views are to die for! Michael is an excellent host, making sure everything was just right. The wine tasting and tour of the winery was great. We definitely hope to go back.

  • If you want a quiet, spectacular setting in a beautiful, beautiful location perfect for a family vacation, THIS IS IT!! The host communication is spot on. The home is immaculate. And they offer wine tasting of their own craft wines.

    Lyn2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was outstanding. The setting is beautiful and private. You need to pay attention to the directions to the home, but it is spectacular when you get there. One of the perks is a wine tasting at the place-no driving! The rooms and beds are very comfortable and the house is spacious. We had six adults and three kids and were not a bit crowded. We are definitely going to make a return visit when we can get it scheduled.

Welcome to the Stagecoach, the main structure of the house once served as the stagecoach stop for this section of the coast of California. Petrolia is truly unique, you will feel it as soon as you drive in. Our home is a work in progress, we have been upgrading and remodeling for a year now and we are far from done. We have many amenities, but not all of our spaces are beautiful yet. We have a lot of knowledge of the area and we would love to help you plan the best getaway for you.
The Stagecoach is a rather large house for Petrolia, it has two stories, and two full bathrooms. Unlike many parts of Petrolia we are in a small neighborhood. We have WIFI, TV, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and microwave. You will not have to traverse a dirt road to get here. As of now our main source of heat is propane. We are within walking distance to the Mattole River, the Community Center, and the Petrolia Store. The Mattole beach is five miles away. The pictures included with this post are the rooms that are not currently under construction. We hope to be ready to host you by June of 2018.
The Stagecoach is in a proper neighborhood, please be courteous. Everyone is very friendly, and only a little eccentric. There is a path down to the river that is detailed on a map in the house.

This is a unique, breathtaking 105-acre property, on the Northern border of the Lost Coast, with trails and creeks, wildlife, a nearby recreational river (kayaking, swimming, fishing, etc.) and a pristine ocean beach within ½ mile.
This craftsman's house is supported by two locally harvested tree trunks and a 3 foot wide, 40 foot cross beam. At approximately 800 feet above sea level, there is a clear view of Pacific Ocean and the Mattole River as it enters the ocean. The house itself, with wooden features throughout, has a huge kitchen, two winter bedrooms (one with the ocean/river view) and a third bedroom usable from March through November. The large but cozy living room looks out over a gorgeous ocean/river view and has a wood-burning stove. In the back of the house is a 350 square foot solarium. Happily, and many environmentalists appreciate this, the electrical system in the house is creek-powered, using pelton wheel technology.
For hikers, the area is legendary. The house sits on the northern border of the euphemistically named, Californian Lost Coast, part of the King Range National Conservation Area. Hikers can hike at low tide along the coast then move inland into the Conservation Area to hike or camp as the tide rises. Avid hikers can plan a hiking trip with a decompression stay at the property!

Escape from the ordinary! Take the spectacular drive to the Petrolia Guest House on the remote 'Lost Coast' of Humboldt County, California. Formally known as ‘The Lost Inn, we are located in the hamlet of Petrolia, just a short walk to the general store and three blocks to the one and only restaurant/bar in our remote valley. We offer a spacious three room suite in the front part of our home, with its own private entrance. It has its own garden with a lovely pastoral view. There is a large bedroom, sun room/bedroom and a glassed in kitchenette porch that overlooks the garden. The bedroom includes a large velvet couch as well as a miniature antique piano. We are one mile from the pristine Mattole River that wends its way through our valley. It affords visitors lovely swimming holes through the summer and fall, and canoeing, river rafting and catch and release fishing through the winter months. We are just 6 miles from the Lost Coast beach which offers tide pools and beach combing. Watching whales and sunsets are a popular pastime. The Lost Coast Beach happens to be the northern end of the Kings Range National Conservation Area and the trailhead of the popular 25 mile Lost Coast hiking trail. This trail is one of the few coastal wilderness hiking experiences in the United States. It is just a short walk to our Mattole Valley Community Center across the street from the elementary school. It offers several weekly classes in yoga and chi gong. Guests could also make an appointment with several very accomplished massage therapists, physical therapists and acupuncturists. There is also a Sunday farmers market there. We are pet-friendly, and will allow your pet to stay on the glassed-in porch next to the bedroom. However, we require a $10.00 fee per night for your pet to stay here. We also have two child-friendly cats and one small dog. We are also wheelchair accessible and have wi-fi available. Some of our guests visit us touring on bikes or motorcycles since we are located on a scenic road loop, about 75 miles long (Rte. 211), between the Victorian village of Ferndale and Humboldt Redwoods State Park just off Hwy 101. Please note that we now have an ATM machine in the Petrolia general store. There is an extra cleaning fee of $40.00 required for 5+ night stay.
  • Our stay at the Petrolia Guest House on the List Coast was amazing. Gail and Phil are gracious host that have lived here for 35 years. They gave us some great insight that allowed us to make the most of our quick trip. The place is great! A beautiful outdoor garden with a barbecue. It is the closest place to stay near the north end of the Lost Coast trail. 5 miles and you are on Mattole Beach on off on the trail. The perfect place to get off the beaten path and explore the beautiful rugged coastline as well as all the beautiful redwoods on the way in. Shhhhh. Don't tell too many people about this hidden gem.

  • Super sweet spot in a lovely little town. We had a great stay. Welcoming and private quarters with everything we needed. Our hosts were generous, friendly, and unobtrusive.

    Talia2014-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Phil and Gail's guest house. They are sweet as can be and take pride in their guest home. Petrolia is near the famed Lost Coast and the scenery is absolutely stunning. We all hope to return just for a longer stay!

    Dave2014-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had an enjoyable stay. Bed was very comfortable. Never ran out of hot water. Not far from beach access and local hiking opportunities. The garden was beautiful and fragrant. We left happy and relaxed.

  • If you are looking for an out-of-the-way, quiet, peaceful place in delightful surroundings, this is the place for you. The accommodations are basic, but adequate and clean and all you need for a few days stay is provided. We loved the private garden which overlooked a field where we spotted wild turkeys.

    Lynette2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at the Petrolia Guest House. Phil and Gail and wonderful and welcoming people, with a lot of knowledge of the area, as they've lived there for many years. They were very understanding about my shifting travel plans, and made sure I had everything I needed, including electricity when there was an unexpected power outage! The bed was incredibly comfortable, the decorations awesome and the suite cozy. The wifi works great. I would definitely stay with them again.

    Shoshana2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at this cute cottage. It is decorated with an eclectic assortment of Americana, which was a lot of fun to discover. Very comfortable bed, quiet and relaxing area. We bought food in Eureka so we could BBQ dinner and not have to leave. Gail was very friendly and has supplied the guest house with everything one needs. Our only regret is that we stayed only one night here. The Wildcat road from Ferndale to Petrolia was a bit rough, but provided stunning views of the ocean and inland areas. We will come back.

    Nancy2013-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Petrolia Guest House is absolutely lovely! The hosts, Phil and Gail, were very welcoming. We arrived late and they called to check if we were okay on the road. Two little kittens romped around on the property and would keep us company in the garden. The home is a short drive to the Lost Coast trail. You can walk to a general store around the corner. Again, wonderful place! I'd highly recommend staying here.

A roadside attraction without the distraction. A car goes by, a bicyclist or walker passes, swallows dip and dart. This circa 1890s former blacksmith shop is twenty feet to the peaceful Pacific Coast Highway, and a quick walk to a secluded beach. Westport boomed in 1878 and was the largest town north of San Francisco, but truth be told, not much happens here any more. Open and airy and cozy and happy, packed with strange and varied art work. Enjoy cooking and napping, reading or staring, and the endless changing Pacific off the deck. Writers, escapists, and creative types will appreciate the solitude of the detached artist studio. One bedroom is cozy and dark, the other bright, with a view to the ocean and a loaded bookshelf. The kitchen has a 4 burner gas range/oven and coffee maker. The living area has a long table for a gourmet spread or a project. Bath with shower, washer and dryer, and the Lost Coast's largest collection of those plaster fish. Watch a DVD or listen to music. Play a game. Be inspired. Soak in the hot tub or just sit on the porch in comfortable adarondack chairs. Outside you will find a 100 square foot artist studio with another large deck. There is a writing desk inside and a stereo system for ipod/computer hookup with two indoor speakers. Great space to do some morning yoga or painting. There is also a very comfortable oversized chair that converts to a twin size sleeper bed. Extra sheets/blankets are next to the sofa sleeper. You will also find a charcoal grill outside. There sandy beaches just a block away and down the bluffs to stairs. All the nearby beaches are dog friendly too and pets are welcome in my home. Buy local! The Westport General store sells beer and staples and makes great organic sandwiches and pizzas to order. The Westport Hotel and Old Abalone Pub serves dinners on the weekends. Off high-way parking for two cars. Note that the side yard is a sculpture construction site for The Westport Whale, a future roadside attraction. This place has all the basic amenities without the frills. The exterior of the house is almost completely renovated fully restoring it to it's historic state. It is my Dream and my favorite place to be in the whole world. I hope you will enjoy it too.
  • The Whale house was one of the most unique, fun, and inspiring places that any of our group of four had ever stayed at! The artwork and quirky touches entertained and stimulated us from the minute we walked in the door through the end of the weekend. The hot tub was a perfect touch and this is the type of place you've got to see to see in person to fully appreciate. It was a trip we'll never forget!

  • My boys and I enjoyed the treasured whale hot spot. Not only was it incredibly comfy your heart and soul are nourished. Eye candy is plentiful with artwork and inspiration. I want to live here but since I live four hours away it will become our new vacation destination. Thank you Kyle!

    Shannon2014-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle was a great host!! The house was very well stocked with all the necessities and clean. We had a wonderful time and the view was absolutely AMAZING!!

  • The whale house is amazing! So beautiful and very spacious! Kyle is a dear who was very communicative and left little presents for our arrival. Definitely book it!

    Jill 2013-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 days at Kyle's place with our two dogkids and had the most amazing time! It was great getting away from the city to hang out in a small town along the coast. We relaxed, cooked, hung out on the beaches, and made art. It was inspiring being in a fun, creative home in such a beautiful place. Kyle left us a few goodies (wine, candies, art supplies, and even potty bags!), a binder full of useful information, and a hand-written card which was a nice treat. We were sad to leave (especially the dogs!), but definitely plan to visit again in the future. :)

    Nancy2013-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • I had the opportunity to take a brief respite from work and city life and get away up north for a couple of days. Kyle's house did not disappoint. It had everything I needed (and more-- two bedrooms, would have been plenty big enough for the rest of my family-- fiancé and two dogs-- plus another couple). Having a glass of wine in the hot tub watching the sky change colors was perfect. And it's proximity to some of the beaches Kyle recommend could not have been more convenient. I had an entire beach to myself for several hours. It is definitely removed from Mendocino and Ft. Bragg (though close enough that I went into Ft. Bragg for lunch one day) which was perfect for the quiet I was looking for. Kyle was responsive and helpful as an owner and I highly recommend staying here to anyone who wants an a secluded north coast trip.

  • Our stay at the Whale House in Westport was nothing short of incredible. The house is amazing and a huge concrete whate was in the front yard to greet us. Every window in the house had a spectacular view, the kitchen and all the amenities were just what we needed. The place was stocked with pans and staples like oil and even smore fixins! Arrived to a lovely note welcoming us to the house as well as a tide report and a binder telling us everything we needed to know about the house and the surrounding area. The little westport community store has sandwiches made right there as well as pizzas ready to order. It was so simple and just an absolute pleasure to stay there, whether it was walking to the beach, stargazing in the hottub, sitting by the firepit, watching the ocean from the deck or exploring every little piece of art hanging on the walls and there was a lot. The house is very artistic and it would be an understatement to say that i left Kyle's house inspired. Thank you Kyle!!!

  • What a view! Cute little city! The house is spacious, the deck is great (I would have stayed at the deck longer if it wasn't so windy), it was easy to get there, and the communication with the host and directions to the house were really easy to follow. The only thing is that the description of the house said it had two bedrooms and two beds, and when we got there, one of the beds in the bedrooms was a sofa bed, kinda small and not really comfortable. But other than that, the house is great!

    Camila2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This home is very clean and very beautiful. The jacuzzi faces the ocean. It is very well-equipped. There were enough sheets and towels and blankets for all of us to be comfortable. The house is a thirty minute drive to Fort Bragg which was perfect, but we loved the home so much we didn't even want to leave for Fort Bragg. :-)

    Shokoofeh2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. The view is amazing. The kitchen is well stocked as well as extra bedding and toiletries. I would suggest you bring an air mattress if you have more then two in your party. There is one mattress upstairs. The other room has a futon as well as downstairs living room. They are not super comfy especially if you are older with more aches and pains. Other than that I would defiantly stay here again. It was clean and the walk to the beach was super close.

Now, you have the unique opportunity to stay in one of Westport's famous 'tall houses.' The 'Westport Landship' exhibits one-of-a-kind breathtaking views of the beautiful Mendocino coastline from every room . Sip wine by the old-fashioned wood fireplace in the expansive great room and watch the waves crash on the rocks below through the coastline window wall. Cooks will love the Landship's galley and adventurers love our easy access to the beach.
Our beautifully designed house is full of unique amenities that makes each trip special! From whale watching on top of the lighthouse deck to exploring the tide pools below, the Landship is full of fun opportunities.
  • Beautiful home. Poking was very easy and Thomas communicated extremely well. Only downfall is the location of the fourth bedroom. Need to go outside to access it.

    Nancy2017-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • We really had a good time and enjoyed the place a lot. It is amazingly beautiful and serene with private access to the beach. The beach itself was good with nice rocks nearby. The views from all rooms are amazing. The house is loaded with kitchen utensils, and lots of linen etc. Now the issues: we could not connect to the internet at all and had no cellular service too. While this can be a blessing at times, some of us were planning to work from home on one of the days and had to take off eventually. Also, there were no curtains in most rooms and it was difficult to put my baby to sleep with so much light. Another issue was the bbq grill was really old and rusty and we could not use it. While the owner informed me about the dated grill when I enquired a week before the travel, it would have been good to get this information during the booking time. Overall, we really liked the place for its beauty and quiet, but were disappointed for the lack of internet, curtains, etc. We will definitely like to return if these things were taken care of.

  • Fantastic getaway for our family! Great Nautical theme throughout the amazingly spacious home. Loved the private beach and the outdoor swing to take in the views. Very private and quiet for a wonderful, relaxing vacation. Close to Fort Bragg and Mendocino for day trips. Made it back to the house in time for a glass of wine in front of the fireplace before dinner. Highly recommend this home. Thomas was very accessible and helpful, a great host!

    sapna2017-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place offers an amazing, one-of-a-kind, vacation experience. From expansive views to private beach access and morning tide pools, Westport Landship was an ideal place for our family vacation (ages 18-88). The only note to mention is there was no cell service and very limited wifi (we loved the opportunity to disconnect, but don't plan on working from this vacation spot).

    Samantha2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • We most definitely would stay at the Landship again. The house was very comfortable and accommodated our party of 10 people (6 adults- 87 to 35 yrs old ~ and 4 kids ages 5 & 6). The stairs were a bit of a challenge for Grandma but she took her time going up them and was rewarded with a wonder view of the ocean from her bedroom. The bedroom with the 4 twin beds was perfect for the "Little's" as I call them. It has a small tv with a DVD player so they could go up and watch a movie. They have a good selection of DVD's both kids and adults. As a bonus for our 4 day stay the ladies of the house went down to the local Westport Hotel (it also has a bar) on Saturday afternoon to have High Tea while the guys hung out with the kids (4 Little's). We also took the Little's to the community park for an Easter egg hunt complete with the Easter Bunny and a light rain. Loved the private beach even though the steps were steep the Little's had no problems using them and loved it down there. They found a star fish and what was left of an octopus. LOL, don't touch it! Of course they did. They even got to see a foot long gardener snake eating a small lizard and thought that was fantastic. The only thing we found that the house was missing was shot glasses, but then maybe we just missed seeing them. The parking is limited but it was not a issue for us. We made some wonderful memories. Be sure to stop into the North Star Winery on your way to the Landship and have a glass of wine while watching the ocean.

  • Westport landship is amazing!! We were a party of 10, lots of space for all of us. The house has everything you will need to prepare meals & enjoy each other's company. We have cell service thru T-Mobile & had no service in Westport (I would suggest printing out your information before you get there). There is minimal wifi available, but that got everyone playing cards & board games instead of video games or You Tube. Lots of stairs to get to the beach but they weren't as bad or scary as they looked at first, just go down backwards & hold on to the railing. We saw sea lions not that far out in the water. Beach toys & towels are provided also. We drove up to Westport from San Francisco area. We drove 101 to Willits & the 20 to the coast, this route is mountain & tight turns (several got car sick). I would suggest driving 128 from Cloverdale & then up highway 1. This is the way we headed back to San Francisco, beautiful drive & some redwoods along the way. No one got sick & no tight turns. Both ways are beautiful & scenic. I would highly recommend this location to anyone!! We would love to go again!

This is a sweet cozy lower room of an octagonal custom built home. It opens with French doors onto a private brick patio where one is snuggled in with rose bushes, bamboo, rhododendrons and a variety of lush wild plantings. Within minutes you can drive to the greatest coastal redwoods.
The spacious library with side guest bedroom looks out onto extensive woodland and fruit trees. This is the Pacific Northwest and it is gorgeous and quiet. This home is just 5 minutes from the old mill town of Scotia. It lies minutes of great hikes at the beach, redwood forests, or the ridges that look down onto the Eel River Valley. Lovely Victorian towns are within 20 minutes drive offering fine restaurants and more. Farm animals are 3 outdoor cats and plenty of wild animals, deer, fox etc Languages spoken are: English, French, Spanish (not brilliantly) and of course I am interesting in learning any other language (-: Wifi is available. No smoking indoors, no pets and no television. Continental breakfast available upon request and for a small fee.
The neighborhood is very rural. It is quiet and most homes are on more than 5 acres. You will hear the barking of a dog in the distance and an occasional logging truck or rancher transporting his cattle up the road. I love the green ferns, trees and native flora. And I enjoy a quiet walk in the evenings overlooking the Eel River Valley from just smile up my road.
  • Where to start? Jennifer's place was so great -- the highlight of our trip. Immaculate, beautiful, rustic, natural space with access to so much of beautiful Northern California. She also gave us great tips on the area, including a spectacular Lost Coast drive/hike. Waking up and wandering the sun-drenched orchard was the most relaxed we'd felt in as long as I can remember. Great host & great place to be!

    Drew2014-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is an incredible space. The host is marvelous and the views are to die for especially if looking for peace and solitude. You can easily drive to surrounding areas and do as much or as little as you like. It was a great weekend and I will definately be back :)

  • Jennifer was very nice and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay at her property.

  • Staying in Jennifer's listing was an absolute dream! The space is cozy, comfy and peaceful and exceeded all expectations. Jennifer is an exceptional and friendly hostess and very accommodating. We were sad to leave this special place!

  • Jennifer was a wonderful host. We didn't know much about Humboldt County and she told us where to go to see the most beautiful lanscapes and enjoy good food. The private room was also beautiful. We had a wonderful time and hope to come back and spend more time with Jennifer in the future.

    Javier2014-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in Redwood country! Jennifer has a beautiful property centrally located between Eureka/Fortuna and Humbolt State Park. She is a fantastic host - talented, super-friendly, attentive and accommodating. You essentially have your own apartment except for a full kitchen. The library/living room, bedroom, private bath and cool outdoor shower. Extremely quiet, tame wildlife, a sky full of stars, and awesome fires at night. We had a great stay!

    Mark2014-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jen, thank you for making our trip memorable. Your hospitality and French conversation was great. Great room and property!

    Scott2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer was a fantastic host! She called us prior to arrival just so we'd know exactly where to go. Once we got to her place, we were thrilled at how beautiful her series of cottages was. We loved our cozy room and the library. We were also charmed by the beautiful garden with apple trees and redwoods, where we had coffee every morning and an outdoor shower and saw some deer. It's a beautiful, unique, pastoral place - you'll never see anything like it. Jennifer was incredibly generous with us, and we had many wonderful talks over the campfire that she started for us. Be sure to ask her about her art! We would love to come visit with her again!!!

This is the most beautiful place on the Mendocino coast, and perhaps in all of Northern California. The fully restored 1884 Victorian farmhouse sits atop 22 secluded oceanfront acres directly overlooking the wild Pacific Ocean. It will comfortably sleep 17-19 adults and 6-8 children. The property is located about 35 minutes north of Mendocino and just south of the historic hamlet of Westport.
The home is completely private, situated hundreds of yards from its nearest neighbor. It is further shielded by forested lands to the south, north and east, while enjoying uninterrupted access to and views of the crashing waves, sea stacks and wild beaches to the west. Because the house and property are all west of Highway 1, there is nothing between you and the ocean but open and very private space. There are majestic, expansive views of the Pacific Ocean from all of the home's west rooms, upstairs and downstairs, and even from half of the rooms on its east side. To top it off, there is a beautiful west-facing veranda overlooking the ocean and headlands below — perfect for morning coffee or a sunset family dinner. The house will sleep 20+ people — there are beds for up to 19 adults and 6 of their children. There are 8 beautiful bedrooms (2 of which have both a bed for adults and sofa bed for their children), plus a living room with sofa bed, and a full size attic equipped with self-inflating queen air mattresses. There is a gourmet kitchen with top of the line appliances, 4 full bathrooms (2 with ocean views), and a laundry room and pantry. The tables in the dining room and kitchen will seat 20 people, and can be arranged in tandem fashion to seat folks contiguously. In addition to the main house, there are two historic barns and a garden shed, all with unimpeded views of the ocean. This is our forever home, and we welcome you to enjoy it as much as we do.
This is the perfect place to get far away from city life and enjoy time cloistered with family and friends, hiking, beach combing, stargazing, or whale-watching from the house, veranda and expansive grounds and promontories. Each evening, the deer and feral goat come out from our forest to graze in the ocean-front meadow below. We spot a whale — or many whales — most days we are here. The sounds of the crashing surf ease us to sleep each evening and greet the new day as we awake each morning. The village of Westport is just a short walk north. The Westport Village Society built a town staircase a 5 minute walk from our house that will take you down to a public beach. There is a terrific hotel, the Westport Hotel, and its Abalone Pub offers great food and drink most nights a week in season. The Westport Store is a terrific country store offering essential items like coffee, wine, soft drinks and beer -- but they make a good pizza and have good bagels too. If you need to do a big grocery shop, Fort Bragg is just a 20 minute drive south. All around the house are great trails for hiking and sightseeing. There are great beaches for surfing, swimming or beach combing within a 10 minute drive north or south.

The house is an older home built in the 50s entirely of redwood. The exterior was just painted in Aug 2017 and the interior photos were taken in Aug 2017. The entire interior has been refurbished from floor to ceiling in late 2013 and is like new except for the kitchen cabinets/counters. New appliances are installed, including the fridge, stove, microwave, dish washer, lighting, sink, disposal, and tile floors. Any imperfections are purely cosmetic, kitchen is fully functional and usable.
Our place is 1/2 acre+ located on the Eel River in Rio Dell, Ca. . You’ll like our place because of the quiet neighborhood, beautiful yards, the gorgeous redwoods, gas fireplace, on-demand water heater, groovy artwork, and the short trail leading to the majestic Eel river from the back yard for salmon fishing, swimming, miles of walking, etc.... Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families, and pets. We do not have cable TV, but we do have very fast cable internet that includes Roku boxes on both TVs that include Netflix, news, sports, etc, you can also sign onto your cable account for premium channels or use our OTA antenna. The house is very comfortable with 2 available BR and the bedrooms have plenty of closet/drawer space for our guest. The 2 queen beds are very comfortable. There are 2 sleeper type couches that will sleep 2 people comfortably. The bathroom also has new tub/shower, toilet, counter, floors and lighting.. The entire house had the hardwood floors redone in 2013.
Older, redwood neighborhood, always quiet and safe. Riverview and access 24/7.. The backyard is very private..
  • The house is comfortable, located in an okay neighborhood. Kitchen is funky, no regular coffee maker, no toaster, counters and cupboards are falling apart. Food cupboard and freezer are full of old food. Home is darker but comfortable, sits above the beautiful river but with no trail to access it. Curtains lacking on many windows and bbq is a mini Webber. Kitty is sad and lonely. His food is eaten every night by a wild critter. He needs a forever home!

  • Beautiful location & quiet neighborhood. Great backyard view of the Eel river. Tony's place was comfortable.

  • Want to explore the vast Humboldt Redwood region from a comfortable and quiet home base? Tony's home is a great choice! You're minutes away from the largest trees in the world at Humboldt Redwoods State Park, the raw and pure California Lost Coast, quaint and artsy Ferndale, Eureka, Arcata, the wildlife of Humboldt Bay, and much more.

    Mark2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Tony's house has been a very pleasant experience for us. We highly recommend it. The place felt very cozy and accommodating as well as clean. We had everything we needed and more. The surrounding area is very beautiful and there is much to do. We especially appreciated the quick response and communication from Tony whenever we had any queries. Tony is and excellent host and we appreciate very much the effort he put into making our trip enjoyable and relaxing.

    Roberto2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and very secluded. Tony was very nice in making sure we had everything we needed and offered a lot of help to set things up in the house if we needed it.

    Zachary2017-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a sweet spot! Stayed here with partner and 2 kids. My daughter loved the dolls that were out, and we all loved spending time on the river each day. House is in a quiet little neighborhood, walkable to a small food market. A quick drive to Avenue of the Giants which was amazing!! House had plenty of room for us to stretch out. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals. Bathroom was clean and had good water pressure. Plenty of blankets, towels, pillows, etc. Thanks so much, Tony!

    Julie2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Tony was fast, detailed, and caring with communicating about the rental. Fantastic host.

    Ashley2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Tony's place was great. We had an extended stay for 17 days and the home provided a very comfortable and convenient stay. The home has everything we needed; linens, towels and full kitchen utensils and pots/pans. The home itself is convenient right off of 101. Within 30 minutes from the home, we visited several beautiful trails and had access to a great Co-op for grocery shipping. The backyard is absolutely stunning with amazing views of redwoods, wildflowers and the river. The backyard swing was lots of fun with our daughter. Overall, our trip was great, communication with Tony was great and we would recommend his home for anyone. Plus, his friend, Ruth, who helped with check in and any questions was absolutely delightful.

  • What an amazing weekend. Carla communicated well about everything we asked, and gave us great tips on where to go and what to see. The house was perfect. We would come back in a heartbeat. The location was absolutely perfect for our teenagers' Marine Biology project. The surf was a bit dangerous, so we weren't able to go down to the private beach, but that just makes us want to come back again to do more exploring. We HIGHLY recommend!!!

    Kimberly2015-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful stay at Carla's home! The views of the ocean are incredible, and the location is just a short drive from Fort Bragg and close to many parks. There is a large kitchen and plenty of space to spread out throughout the home. Highly recommend staying here!

    Michelle2016-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • THANK YOU, CARLA!! We absolutely LOVED our stay in this charming home, on a Spectacular piece of land. The cozy Craftsman style home is decorated with lovely & comfy vintage furnishings, & yet has plenty of modern upgrades. Great mattresses, flat screen TV, solid wifi, central heating & a new washer & dryer. So comfortable I found myself wanting to hang out there with my pooch, rather than go out sight-seeing. And then there is the breathtaking property...just below the house is a huge, open meadow where my dog loved to run & play. And across the meadow, dramatic cliffs & gorgeous coastal, ocean views. Being there during a rainy week in January, the swells were huge & beautiful, & we found ourselves wandering down there on a daily basis, just to enjoy the power & beauty of mother nature at her best! :) We are already planning our next trip back. Thanks again to the Risse family, & Samuel, their very friendly, helpful & yet barely noticeable caretaker.

    Victoria2016-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This location is truly fantastic! The rustic feel made me feel completely at home and relaxed. The back property was beautiful and we enjoyed hours of sitting by the ocean. I am already planning a trip back!

    Olivia2015-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to get away and relax while still being close to activities in the area. The house is full of mid 20th century charm. Lots of vintage furniture and beautifully restored. Plenty of room for everyone in our group of 6 to choose quiet time alone or with each other.

    Michelle2017-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house was lovely, a quaint new-englandy feel. The grounds were amazing, including the secluded private beach available only at low tide, by adventurous rope-aided descent. It was an easy place to spend the whole day outside. There were some missed connections in the communication piece: 1) (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps takes you to the wrong place by about 20 minutes South (but Apple's Maps App works correctly), which would have been useful to know going in and 2) We never received the key code--maybe a mistake on the hosts' part, or on AirBnB, or possibly I missed it somewhere. The host didn't pick up my calls until I texted her. So, it was a stressful arrival, and then a wonderful stay. As long as those communication pieces are taken care of, I would recommend the place wholeheartedly. My friends would like to go themselves sometime.

    Jonah2016-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful old farmhous with great few and the cliffs in sight. Loved our stay vers much. Highly recomendet. Quit and remote location.

  • Our family enjoyed our stay at Carla's place, we especially enjoyed the proximity to the dunes and beaches as well as being in a more rural secluded setting. The house is comfortable and spacious, kitchen well appointed with plenty of cooking utensil options, and the beds were really comfortable, cozy sheets and all! Thank you for making this space available!

This is an amazing home on a private peninsula surrounded by the sea, sandy beaches and nature. The home is newly remodeled. Watching birds soar, whales swimming by and children playing on the beach below. It is truly a front row seat by the sea !
Everyone that comes here says its the best view of any home they have ever been. It is end of the road privacy. There is a gourmet kitchen and 3 newly remodeled bathrooms. At low tide there is a sea cave below that takes you to a secret beach. This is a destination you'll always remember !
A mostly quiet neighborhood with vacation homes and other vacation rentals. It surrounded by trees and the sea.
  • I'm not sure I want to let the rest of the world in on this unbelievable property. It is one of a kind. Unique in that nothing compares to this property. There are NO properties that compare. Lucky we found it for a long weekend!

  • This is an amazing home! Secluded, beautiful, comfortable. The view cannot be beat. During the day, you see the ocean, and at night you see the Milky Way from the hot tub. Really a magical place.

  • Seaside point is a gem. Situated on a peninsula overlooking the beach and the sea, the views are unreal. It's tranquil. The waves provided a peaceful soundtrack to realizing in this great home. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. It was so relaxing. You can walk the beach below. The dunes just down the road are great running and walking trails. Jackson state park is close by as well for great redwood hiking. At night, the star gazing is so far beyond what you will see in the city. You can see the Milky Way on a clear night. This place is also great because it's 3 and 1/2 hours from the city, a pretty straight shot up the 101 if you hit it with no traffic. Deryl is a great host. His house is beautiful, all the features are gorgeous. The bathrooms and bedrooms are fantastic. The kitchen is great, with plenty of room. The gas range, all the finishes are well done. We recently remodeled so we noticed all the little things and he did an excellent job with this home! Waking up to a view of the ocean: priceless. We will be back! Can't recommend this home enough!

Enjoy our home nestled in the redwood trees. Wine and cheese is always available upon your arrival or we can accomodate with a vegetarian or vegan option. Our home is light and airy with a very relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We serve breakfast at 8am, made with our farm fresh eggs and our delicious scones. In the evening perhaps sit by the fire pit and gaze at the stars or unwind in the hot tub. PLEASE!!! Tell us if your pet is staying with us!
Newly updated bedroom and private bath just down the hall from the bedroom. Enjoy a cozy fire indoors or on the porch. Kitchen and laundry are available. Close to the freeway and shops. Your four legged kids get a welcome basket!
Our street is a quite friendly and clean cul-de-sac. The homes are all well kept.
  • Wonderful hosts! Good location. The bathroom is a bit further from the bedroom than was comfortable for us - others might be fine with it though. The wine and cheese was excellent and we were able to enjoy it while watching a football game that the hosts allowed us to watch in their living room - very nice of them. Since we had to leave by 7:30 am, we were not able to have the breakfast that came with the stay. We should have clarified that I guess before booking. Again, super nice hosts.

  • One could not have a better Airbnb experience. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and a plate of cheese, salami, and crackers. In addition, there were beautiful apples, bottled water and a selection of snacks in our room. Monica and Bob were wonderful hosts, and we spent a lovely evening chatting and drinking wine with them. The room was very clean and comfortable with pressed linens, and the bathroom down the hall had many added touches with very nice, new, thick towels. In the morning we had Keurig coffee, eggs (from their chickens) and scones freshly baked by Monica. It felt like we were leaving family when we left to visit the several recommended local attractions.

    Patty2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, warm, kind and big hearted. This was practically a pampered B&B experience. Monica and her husband are welcoming and hospitable. Wine and cheese to welcome us and fresh hot breakfast with home made scones to see us off. Perfect stop over between national parks.

    Julie2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a gem - the quintessential Airbnb experience, with everything spotless, everything you could ask for and more, with a host who is available, sociable and attentive. We were the first guests, and it was clear from the start that Monica wants to make this into a special experience for her guests. She could not be there at our arrival due to her granddaughter's imminent birth, but she forewarned us and had her son and son-in-law welcome us and show us around (despite our late arrival), and she stayed in touch with us for everything during the evening. A wonderful Merlot with cheese, salami and grapes awaited us. Bottled water, snack bars and more greeted us in the room. The bathroom is not en suite, but towels, washcloths etc. were plentiful. The place has a fresh, very clean feel to it. The wifi needs to be tweaked to work throughout the house. The fully furnished room is private, with closet space, and a firm bed (just as we like it). Due to the shortness of our visit, we unfortunately did not try the hot tub. The large back garden almost has a farmhouse feel to it. Monica greeted us in the morning with a breakfast of cherry scones (hot out of the oven), boiled eggs, grapes, yoghurt, tea and coffee. She chatted and gave us several great recommendations about the area. We've been to several Airbnb places, but this was a definite step up as a visiting experience. It definitely deserves a longer visit than our schedule allowed. Exceptional value at the price.

    Manfred2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Monica and Bob were very welcoming, with great communication, easy check-in that included a glass of wine. The room was clean and cute, and in the morning we got waffles with fresh fruit. Her family was very welcoming and happily accommodated us and our two dogs who were traveling with us. Great location a short drive from Avenue of the Giants.

    Chris2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, everything was as needed

    Joshua2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Monica’s home is very delightful and cozy. It is found in an area off the beaten path on a dead ended street. The room is very cozy, the bed is firm and comfortable. The tray of cheese and crackers were delightful and the wine went well with it. I really liked the family atmosphere and loved talking to Monica, Bob and their daughter. I felt like part of the family. It was cold that night, but they thought of everything, from an extra room heater and extra blankets. I enjoyed a great nights sleep and a wonderful breakfast the next morning. When I came out of the room, Bob was placing some more wood into the fireplace. This is a very nice place to stay and I would choose this place again.

See our calendar for July mid-week specials... Otter's Den is located on the Ten Mile River. It is off the grid and surrounded by nature and wildlife. Close to beaches and sand dunes. Rustic, but comfortable with queen bed, propane heating and cooking, hot shower, outdoor privy and big firepit. Kayaks included.
Otter’s Den Otters’ Den awaits those wanting an intimate experience with nature. Secluded in the alder woods on the bank of the river, this little hand-built rustic cabin is surrounded by a natural wonderland. Sitting beside the river or kayaking on it, you can watch families of otters, ducks and geese. Egrets often roost in the trees across the river. Seals also frequent this tidal stretch of the river and foxes make their dens in these woods. Otters Den is a real escape--it is off the grid and out of WiFi and cell phone range (cell service is available 1 mile away). Along with beautiful views of the trees and river from large south windows, the studio cabin has a queen bed, a glass front propane heater, a cozy kitchen with a full sized propane fridge, propane cook top and large sink. Propane and LED lights illuminate the interior. Outside is an enclosed hot shower, a redwood privy, a Weber BBQ, outdoor table and chairs around the large fire pit. Wood for the fire pit is available at most stores and from vendors along the highway. Bring your own charcoal for the BBQ. Perfect for those seeking a retreat from the hubbub of city life and an immersion in nature, Otters’ Den is still only 20 minutes from Fort Bragg with it’s galleries, fine dining opportunities, Farmers’ Market, many festivals, great shopping and other activities. It is 5 minutes from miles of beach and sand dunes. Perfect too for abalone divers. The site is also available for events and camping—when the cabin is not occupied by those seeking to renew themselves in the beauty of nature. Otters’ Den is part of a large property with other residences. Use of kayaks is included. A two-night minimum is encouraged. Also available by appointment are guided nature tours, tarot readings, and visits with our flock of friendly sheep. No dogs please—you can play with ours. Recent refurbishing will make your stay even more enjoyable and are reflected in our rates.
Our neighborhood is one of the most beautiful on earth. Ten Mile Beach and its dunes is just five minutes away and is the longest undeveloped beach in California. On the north side of the Ten Mile River folks can walk on lovely Seaside Beach. The river itself is very gentle for kayaking and folks can expect to see many birds including kingfishers, great blue & other herons, ducks & geese, as well as many kinds of hawks and other species of birds. Seals and otters can be seen in the water. The area also is home to other wild life such as deer, foxes & racoons. The river valley and its wetlands are a constantly changing tapestry of colors.
  • Thanks Team Otter for a fantastic weekend getaway to the Otter's Den! We had a relaxing and rejuvenating experience in a truly magical setting. The cabin has an impressive list of amenities . I'd hesitate to even call it a cabin with a hot water shower, comfy bed, refrigerator and gas stove. In fact, it was bigger than our last apartment! We spent the weekend exploring the breath taking dunes, relaxing on the beach and grilling in front of the massive fire pit. We even managed to do a bit kayaking, although we didn't see any otters. Maybe next time! We'll certainly be back.

    Justin2014-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Otters' Den is hands-down one of the best and most unique Airbnb rentals out there. If you like nature and are craving a bit of an escape from the rat-race, this is your ticket. The hosts were kind and pleasure to meet, and the rental itself does not leave anything for want. 5 stars on all counts, and we will certainly be back.

    Matt2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • This kind of getaway is the best kind of getaway. While staying at Otter's Den, we were happy to shut off our phones and get back in touch with nature. The views from the cabin are amazing, from inside and out. There are multiple seating areas to enjoy the scenery at all times of the day. We loved the kayaks! Ten-mile river is a serene place to paddle and enjoy the wildlife on the banks. The place was cozy for two and made for some excellent, quiet meals. We also enjoyed a mean game of scrabble! Judi and Raven welcomed us warmly with a tour of the place when we arrived - we hope to return again next year.

  • Great secluded cabin near the river. Very relaxing, wish we could have stayed longer.

    Joel2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked quietly along the Ten Mile River in an isolated part of an expansive property, Otter's Den really is a get away. We were greeted most warmly by Judi, and provided a very entertaining, thorough, lay of the land. The cabin is simple and warm, has a good view of the river, and a very usable kitchen space. We absolutely loved being able to use the kayaks that are there to explore the river all the way to the coast and back (great fun!). The large barrel encased fire pit, in the meadow area under the stars was an added plus, as was the two person hammock. A very peaceful setting. Would have liked to have stayed longer to spend time walking around exploring the wetlands, the sheep and the goats, and the overall, friendly feel of the community. I'd highly recommend the experience to anyone wanting to unplug, take a deep breath from the hub-bub, and rejuvenate.

  • Since we already live off the grid, my husband's mutterings initially were, "Well...This is a postman's holiday...." Otter's Den provided us with a much-needed escape from the responsibilities, the phone, the work at home, and allowed us to settle in with every amenity from a full complement of kitchen tools, to a very comfie queen bed, to chairs on the deck, at the picnic table, and right on the river's edge, two kayaks awaiting our pottering on the water, widely varied reading, everything spic and span, flowers in the house and out, thick towels, a few condiments, but above all, a bucolic setting amid alder thickets, vultures nesting, foxes zipping about, egrets skimming above the water, and one single other being on the river in four days. Absolutely fabulous tidepooling - ask Judi about her favorite spots. Congenial company, great stories, and our host attentive to any possible needs. The resident goat herd waltzed down to the river and cavorted back again one morning. We ventured into nearby towns a bit, but most of the time, were within half an hour of our snug digs. By the end of our three nights, all we could think of was how to extend, how to return, when to come again, whom to bring with us. The perfect retreat, delightful host.

  • What an amazing stay! This cottage is ideally located a minute away from the most incredible dunes, and very close to Ft. Bragg and other attractions in the area. Tenaya was a great host, and welcomed us with delicious homemade jam and muffins. If you are looking for a quiet and beautiful getaway in Mendocino, this is your place.

    Dylan2014-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was absolutely incredible! The cottage was adorable, with a full kitchen, a VERY comfortable bed and a great patio. Tenaya was a gracious and kind host--the best homemade blackberry jam, applesauce and oatmeal muffins ever!! The sand dunes were literally a couple steps away and incredible. She has a hammock on top of one of the sand dunes with an absolutely extraordinary panoramic view of the beach. I cannot wait to return!!

    Emma2012-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third time staying in the Rose Cottage and our 5th time staying with Tenaya. We love the cottage and staying at Tenaya's beautiful place. She is an amazing hostess and the Rose Cottage is always so welcoming and clean. We look forward to coming back!!

    Brandy2013-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We spent our honey moon weekend at the Rose Cottage and could not have picked a better place! Forget Hawaii, I would rather go here again. Tenaya was a fantastic host and the cottage was just perfect: intimate, quiet, and surrounded by a garden. It was great to wake up to birds singing and go for a walk on the near by sand dunes or explore the surroundings and sip a wine with the ocean view (great suggestion, Tenaya!) or visit ocean bluffs and beaches within few minutes of driving. She had blackberry jam and oatmeal cakes and fresh cut strawberries as special surprise for us when we checked in. We already miss the cottage!

    Abhijeet2013-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place this is. It is secluded, calm and beautiful and is everything a cabin should be. We hope to be back!

    Knut Eirik2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, great way to unwind and get away from any kind of distraction. Hiking through the sand dunes and the fire pit were the highlights of my stay. Very clean and comfortable place to stay. My mom and I prepared all of our meals at the cottage, anything you needed was available there! Thank you Tenaya!

    Charis2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful relaxing stay. The sunshine in the morning was amazing and the private walk way to the beach was magical. Would most definitely come back.

    Kathryn2016-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya was a gracious host. She was kind in warning me about the weather and what to bring to be prepared before I left for the trip. She welcomed me in a way that felt very personal and friendly. The cottage was exactly as described and was very private and quiet at night. The only thing to hear at night was the waves from the ocean. The location is remarkable and the sand dunes just behind the cottage are quiet and beautiful. They lead out to a very long beach that is basically private because the only entrance is through the small street the cottage sits on. I had a really nice time, it was exactly what I was looking for, and I look forward to going back to stay here again later this year.

Rustic-chic cottage nestled in a eucalyptus grove along Hwy 1. Just minutes from the magical dunes and ocean panoramas of Mackerricher Park and a quick drive to all the local attractions. Also – check out our newly-listed House of the Forest Dunes. A bigger space with full kitchen. Rent out both spaces on the property for one of the best deals on the coast for large groups!
The space is a lovely 650-square-foot redwood-shingled cabin with bedroom (queen); kitchen (sink, counter, single induction burner, minifridge); full bathroom, and living room (pull-out couch) with loft (full-sized futon mattress). The cabin is well insulated and on cold winter nights, there are a couple of space heaters, which usually does the trick, or you can fire up the wood burning stove and make it super warm and cozy. There's also a small table for eating meals and stereo to plug your mobile device into. The cabin is about 50 yards from our house, and there are trees and a fence between them, so you're entirely private except if we happen to see each other in the driveway. We are right off of a sparsely driven stretch of Highway 1. Family vacation, romantic getaway, artist retreat -- it's a perfect spot for all your Mendo needs. The area around the cabin still needs to be landscaped – it's not picture perfect yet – so there's a substantial discount from what we will charge we create the magic garden of our dreams. But if you don't care about that stuff that much, it's a great bargain for lovely lodging on the coast.
We live across the street from peaceful horse pastures. On the other side of the house are the dunes and the ocean. We have neighbors, but the property is surrounded trees and you won't see anyone else. 20 minutes North is the trailhead to the Lost Coast. 7 minutes South is Fort Bragg... We're a great location for a Mendocino vacation, Ideally situated between the Northward attractions of Pacific Star Winery and Westport and Fort Bragg/Mendocino to the South. And of course, the dunes. We're just two minutes to an entrance to the park. Our guests spend a lot time out there walking, meditating, playing music, adventuring, stargazing... Walk or drive a little ways inland brings you to deep expanses of redwoods on hundreds of miles of old logging roads...
  • Jason's cabin is clean and artfully decorated. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Jason was very responsive and made sure we were comfortable. The dunes are a very special place and were one of the highlights of our trip along the north coast. They were so wonderful to explore and my boys (10 &15) spent quite a bit of time there. We also really enjoyed Jason's seaweed foraging tour and his knowledge of the area. We would definitely stay again!

    Alyssa2015-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great experience from start to finish. Great little space for romantic rainy evenings.

    petronilo2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Nice little cabin on highway 1. Great access to the dunes, but far from everything else.

    Luis2017-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is adorable, clean and cozy. It does get a bit chilly, but there are space heaters and a wood burning stove. Jason provided excellent communication with us before our visit with information about the surrounding area, how to access the cabin, and how to use the wood burning stove. We chose to sleep up in the loft, and it was very comfortable and cozy. Overall, we had a wonderful visit, although it was short. If we visit Mendocino County again, we will definitely look for this cabin or one of the other properties that Jason owns.

    Molly2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was beautiful, newly restored with many artful touches, plush towels, and warm comforters. The dunes were a mysterious, pristine landscape I never knew existed. Jason was friendly, accessible, and responsive to our needs. I recommend this place highly!

    Laura2015-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time spending Christmas there. Although the weather was very wet and rainy, we were comfy and cozy inside with a sensation of being in the Alps with the wood burning stove. You have everything you need to cook, the beds are so comfy that we would have spent the whole day sleeping if the surroundings were not stunning and calling for a walk! We recommend Jason as a host, he is great!

    Alexandra2015-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our host Jason answered promptly on the Airbnb site. It is a great location, a couple of miles north of fort Bragg and only about 5 miles south of pacific star winery. There are quite a few beaches both north and south of the cozy cabin. We totally enjoyed our time there and would do it again

    Cecelia2016-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Nice cottage just North of Fort Bragg CA. Quiet and close enough to all the local sites and activities in Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Jason is a great host and has plenty of info on restaurants and things to see in the area.

Architecturally exquisite! Set in quiet, beautiful, peaceful, gardens with large pond. Gorgeous custom-made furniture, Bose surround-sound, spa-like glass block shower. Radiant heat. Deluxe latex bed. Short walk over dunes to deserted Ten Mile Beach.
Stunning Asian-inspired jewel set in gorgeous Japanese gardens with pond. Sand dunes and ocean steps away with private access from quiet neighborhood, making this section of beach relatively deserted. Dunes hold heat and burn off summer fog so the Inglenook area is a sunbelt, yet only 10 min from Ft. Bragg. Custom furniture from local fine woodworkers, Bose surround sound, wi-fi, bamboo heated floors, fully equipped kitchen, glass block spa shower with impeccable craftsman details everywhere. There is a 2 night minimum. All fees are included. Owner lives in main house on the property. On-site massage available from licensed professional- a total treat. Yoga mats and props available.
It's a private lane with private access to the entire Ten Mile Beach Preserve. Very safe and although it feels rural, you can be in Ft Bragg in 10 minutes.
  • Despite the major storm coming through we had a great weekend here. Even a couple of power outages added some adventure to the weekend. Our host provided us with all the necessary resources to get through the power outages and even did nice things like bring us hot water in the morning for coffee/tea. We will be back soon.

    Foster2015-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time staying in the zen retreat and each time has been wonderful, quiet, and peaceful. The location is beautiful as it is close to the dunes. The house is spotless and everything needed is provided. We especially enjoy buying fresh salmon in Noyo and grilling in the evening, accompanied by the songs of the frogs. Lindsay is available for questions and is a warm and welcoming host, but otherwise is very respectful of privacy.

    Kimberly2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect hideaway just north of Fort Bragg. Comfy bed, radiant heat for chilly mornings, and a divine rain shower. Bring your favorite coffee mug and watch the birds out on the back porch in the morning. The kitchen is ideal for quiet, camp meals. After a hike on the dunes, though, you won't want to fuss over much of anything. Fort Bragg is about ten minutes away if you need really great pizza. Word to the wise, the sand on the dunes is hot in summer! If you don't have your beach feet yet, don't trust flipflops to protect your tender toes.

    Mary and David2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsay's place is indeed a sanctuary. Serene and peaceful, clean and super relaxing. The location is great...I can't wait to go back in Summer when the days are longer. Paul and I had magnificent weekend celebrating my birthday. Everything about the weekend was magic. We will definitely stay at Lindsay's Zen cottage again and have already referred friends.

    Kat2010-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • This location is stunning, and peaceful and in a beautiful spot within walking distance to the beach and sand dunes. It really was a perfect stay and Lindsay is an excellent host with an incredible eye for design and detail. Very happy with everything it was perfect.

    Heather2013-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsay's place is amazing. We loved everything about it from the unique design of the bungalow to the stunning gardens, so very peaceful and serene. We were able to walk down to the beach from her place and there are quite a few other things to do nearby. We even saw a gray whale off the coast. Lindsay is a great host. We are already planning our next stay!

    Veronica2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a relaxing time at Lindsay's Zen Jewel - just what we needed for a weekend getaway! The in-floor heating kept us warm and toasty. It was also easy to make our own meals as all basic cookware were provided. I would highly recommend this little place!

    Sibo2011-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsay's Japanese inspired home is a wonder. We felt welcomed right from the beginning as we were walked through all the features and small design touches for the space. Things only improved, as we were given all the privacy we wanted, enjoyed her beautiful garden and took advantage of the dunes that lie at the end of her lane. Though our trip had more rain in it than sunshine, the house made it magical with the rain chains and covered walkways.

  • A beautiful, peaceful property adjacent to unlimited dunes and coastline to explore! Pictures and descriptions of MacKerricher State Park don't do it justice- it's amazing. The property is accurately described in the listing. The furniture and beds are new and comfortable. The bedrooms and living/dining room are roomy. The bathrooms and kitchen are cozier, but they have everything you need. Pamela was very responsive, helpful, and friendly. Reservations, check in, and check out were quick and trouble free. Don't be dissuaded by the lack of reviews. Once the word gets out that this is an awesome place to stay, that will quickly change!

  • Such a great experience staying here this weekend. Comfortably housed my group of 6. The grill requires coal, bring your own along with lighter fluid. Also the hot tub comfortably fit 6 people, if they only put their feet in which is what we did. If you plan to submerge your self, hot tub fits 2 people max. Kitchen is fully equipped, has about everything you need. I would stay here again if I decide to return to have a weekend in fort bragg.

    Jetty2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Well-equipped home with everything you need for a getaway. Really cozy and perfect for a visit to Mendocino with our friends and two dogs. We loved watching the best VHS movies from the '90's, using the hot tub, and cooking in the kitchen.

  • When my sister and I booked our weekend at Pamela's Cypress Dunes we did not realize we would be among the guests. It was a 60th birthday present for our mom meant for her and her friends, but she chose to bring family and we are glad she did! The property is beautiful and well kept. The house is clean, comfortable and well stocked with towels blankets, dishes, almost everything you need! The beach access was the best part, even though it was storming like crazy when we were there! The "trail" was nothing short of AMAZING! My family is very outdoorsy and we had so much fun navigating through the largest dunes we have ever seen(you could totally get lost in the desert like terrain), picking up sand dollars, identifying new plants... And Glass beach in Fort Bragg is a must see! We are from coastal Northern California so it was especially nice finding a place somewhat close that can offer us a completely different view of our ocean and new things to explore. We will be back!

  • Pamela was a great host, she was very accommodating, responsive and check in was easy. The place was very comfortable and had plenty of towels, blankets, sheets and the kitchen is well stocked in case you want to dine in. This was a girlfriends getaway, Cypress Dunes was perfect for us, we enjoyed the accommodations, serenity of the location, sitting in the spa and star gazing. The hikes to the beach were awesome, as well as going into town for lunch and sightseeing. Visiting nearby MacKerricher, State Park was a great experience too. The ocean views are a true representation of Northern California. Great location for a getaway!!!
