Places to stay in Shalbourne
Shalbourne is a beautiful village about 3 miles from Hungerford and 8 miles from Marlborough and in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We have a friendly village pub which has a large and varied menu and a village shop which serves delicious fresh coffee and pastries. The Annexe is a comfortable twin-bedded studio set in our 2 acre garden which has far reaching views over the surrounding countryside. There are great walks and cycle rides from our front door.
Access to the Annexe is via outside stairs in the garden. The Annexe has a comfortable sofa and kitchen unit which consists of microwave , fridge and sink. There is also a television which is connected to free-sat.
  • This place is fantastic, would highly recommend for a weekend away. There are quite a few local pubs, the best being The Three Tons Freehouse in Great Bedwyn for atmosphere and food.

  • Stunning views - even in poor weather. I really appreciated the little touches such as fresh bread and lovely jams and an easy check-in. A great location for some stunning country walks and historic villages. I enjoyed wandering around the village of Ham and doing the recommended walk from a leaflet found in the handy tourist info folder in Sarah's place.

  • Is exactly as described on tin. A room in the countryside with a great view. Perfect for a great weekend away

Fantastic area for dog walks, which the owner had kindly provided maps and suggested routes. Views from the barn were amazing - especially watching the sunrise. Plenty of enclosed outdoor space for our dogs to play and run around. The barn is decorated and furnished to a high standard. We were really happy and hope to return. Highly recommended!

Self-contained cabin at the edge of the forest, just outside the picturesque village of Great Bedwyn. A spacious room with luxurious underfloor heating, quirky mezzanine, comfortable bathroom and kitchenette. Guests are welcome to use the cabin's woodland garden and have private parking in front of the cabin. It's a 10 minute walk to the train station and only a 5 minute walk to the centre of the village which has a fabulous pub, community cafe, post office shop with bakery, and grocery store.
Our cabin has one double bed in the main space and we can offer 2 single mattresses up in the mezzanine, making it a perfect space for a family of 4. You're welcome to bring your own cot-bed, there is plenty of space to put it up. The spacious bathroom has a comfortable shower. You'll find all the essentials in the kitchenette, including a fridge, kettle and toaster. Feel free to use our two portable induction hobs which are great for heating pre-cooked meals. Please be aware that the kitchen space is small and not really suitable for cooking anything other than very simple things (but we can recommend great restaurants and various take-aways!). The main space has a dining table and chairs. You are very welcome to use the cabin garden and picnic table. There are swings and a self-build deer lookout with slide for kids to use (at own risk!). Please note that if we are home we might use the garden too. There's private parking in front of the cabin.
The cabin is located on the edge of the forest, just outside Great Bedwyn. The local woods and fields are great for rambling and have a multitude of walking paths. Our canals are fantastic for cycling: Cobbs Farmshop, Hungerford and Kintbury in one direction, and Crofton Beam Engines and Wilton in the other direction. It's a 5 minute downhill stroll to the village which has a superb family-owned pub, a community cafe, a post office shop which sells fresh bread and delicious pastries, and a handy grocery store. In the centre of the village is a play park and football field. It's a 10 minute walk to the station. To visit: - Crofton Beam Engines. It's a lovely walk or cycle ride along the canal to the Crofton pumping station. There is a nice cafe too. (April- October) - Avebury. One of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain, it contains the largest megalithic stone circle in the world. It's a 22 minute drive away and could be combined with an outing to Marlborough. -Cobbs Farm Shop. Not just a farm shop, there's a cafe with large outside space and play barn and in summer you can pick your own fruit. Pubs and restaurants: - The Three Tuns. Fabulous family-run pub a 5 minute walk away. - The Harrow at Little Bedwyn. Award winning restaurant, just over a mile's walk along the canal. - The Palm. Our favourite Indian restaurant is a 5 minute drive away. - Rick Stein. One of many great restaurants in Marlborough is about a 15 minute drive away. - The Swan. Lovely pub in Wilton is at cycling distance. Takeaways: - Fish and Chip Bus. Every Tuesday between 5pm-8pm outside Great Bedwyn's school. - Phoenix Wood Fired Mobile Pizzas. Wednesdays (from spring time) are available outside our village hall. - The Palm. Fantastic local Indian restaurant that also offers takeaways. - The Tree Tuns Freehouse. Our friendly village pub offers takeaways too.
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin is finished nicely and is perfect for a long weekend. Maura is an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended.

    Marc2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you to Maura for such a wonderful time! We have very busy lives and really looked forward to our weekend in the forest. The cabin is an outstanding space & sparkling clean. We left feeling very happy and relaxed!

    Charlotte2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Maura is a welcoming host and keeps a clean, thoughtful space. Basic amenities, but you don't need all the bells and whistles for a country stay. Sound system in the cabin is great, really adds to the experience. Comfy bed, excellent noises at night.

    Mark2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful stay at the woodland cabin. I was looking for a comfortable space within easy reach of an abundance of trees to read, write, do some yoga, meditate, and get lost in the woods. This place far surpassed my expectations. The space is perfect for relaxing or working, with a roomy desk/table that looks out onto the garden and the woods beyond. There is bird song. The shower is hot and powerful and the underfloor heating is a treat for yoga or just sliding into warm slippers. The speakers are excellent and the lighting is dimmable so you can create whatever atmosphere you need for your retreat. Communication with the host was excellent both before and during my stay - my sugar and tea supplies were topped up within minutes of asking and Maura's husband kindly gave me a lift to the station to escape the rain. I was sorry to leave and already eagerly anticipate my return.

    Jasmine2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin. Good for children and great for exploring!

    Lucie 2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place and amazing hospitality. Would definitely visit again.

    Noureldin2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Maura was an amazing host, lovely touches left for us. The shower and underfloor heating were great and the mini stereo made playing some relaxing music very easy. The bed was comfy and the main room was very spacious. The local pub (the three tuns) was great and only 5 minutes walk away - definitely book a table for a lovely evening. The kitchenette was really handy and the portable induction hobs made making porridge in the morning really easy. Lots of walks in the area if that's your thing too. As another guest mentioned, it was lovely to draw back the curtains in the morning and be able to look out at the woodlands.

    Jim2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cabin, a very stylish space furnished to a high standard. We loved the shower with natural wood panels and all the eco touches. Maura was a fantastic host, extremely easy to communicate with and left us thoughtful touches such as fresh milk and apple juice in the fridge. It was also a great base for good walks and cycle rides in the woods and Wiltshire countryside.

This charming cottage is situated in the heart of Kintbury. There are plenty of lovely walks nearby and the Kennet & Avon canal is within easy reach for fishing and cycling. The village has 3 pubs, a good corner store and a part-time bakery just a minute's walk away. The property is also only a short distance from the station for trains to Newbury/Hungerford (5 minutes), Reading (35 minutes) or London (50 minutes).
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and separate dining area. The bedroom/lounge is upstairs and is equipped with a deluxe easy-folding Furl double-sofa for a delightful night's sleep. There is also a Netflix account & a projector for guest use for a truly cinematic experience. The cottage has a fully-equipped office with a computer, printer & fast unlimited internet access, perfect for working from home. Due to the coronavirus, we’re taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces, including fully steam-cleaning all areas between reservations. Although all the pubs are now closed in line with government guide-lines, the corner shop (which incorporates a post-office) is still well-stocked and fully operational. And of course, there are still many accessible and delightful walks nearby.
This is an ideal location for exploring Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, with the pretty market towns of Hungerford & Marlborough only 5 and 20 minutes drive away. Avebury stone circle is 40 minutes away.
  • Cosy self contained annex cottage. Very thoughtful host and good facilities. Literally the best sofa bed we have ever used!!! The projector set up is a lovely touch however a tv solution would just be simpler!

    Aran2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent, will stay again.

    Mike2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Julian and Dorothea’s place was exactly what I needed. Don’t let the sofa bed put you off it really is very comfy, my mum even came and stayed 2 nights and it was no problem sharing it. The projector is great and the desktop computer came in really handy too to get some work done. Julian and Dorothea kept to themselves but made me aware that they were there if I needed anything which was perfect. The self check in was very straight forward too. I would definitely stay again.

  • Cosy, comfortable, clean and exactly what we needed. Brilliant suggestions from Jonathan regarding local places to eat and drink, Kintbury is beautiful! Thank you, I would 100% recommend.

    Jess2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a business visit, and it was always dark when I came and went, so I can't really comment on Kintbury itself, except to say it took me back to my 70s childhood at the other end of Berkshire. In a good way! The accommodation is clean, comfortable and well equipped, and in my case a good location for a short daily commute to Newbury. Jonathan communicated well throughout, but perhaps I would have been well advised to actually read what he said rather than blundering around in the dark looking for the entrance! Recommended.

  • Stayed in quite a few Airbnb’s and this has to be the best I have stayed in. Such a beautiful place and so private.

  • Had a wonderful 2 night stay at Lucy's gorgeous place this weekend. As well as being beautifully finished, the attention to detail throughout was excellent. The kitchen and bathrooms are all well equipped and we made full use of the kitchen after a trip to the local farm shop! We arrived at night, but the view from the balcony was a treat to wake up to and inspired us to watch the stars the following evening after a venture out on a long walk through woods and fields (with an essential pub stop). Overall had a super relaxed stay, would highly recommend!

  • Week two just as amazing a very special place to relax. You will not be disappointed.

    David2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • As I drove down the driveway I new this was going to be something special. Total tranquility very well equipped with views off the balcony that you can only dream off. The location is just a short distance to the town center and an amazing base to visit other towns within the area. I can’t say a bad word about this place or the host everything is of high quality. My only comment would be a hot tub on the balcony possibly in years to come would certainly be an added extra that would open a bigger door for this very special location. I loved it so much I’m going back next week. Thanks a million Lucy...

  • We spent a wonderful long weekend at the Bothy in early November. The house was spacious and modern but still felt cozy. The views from the living room are lovely - a great place to relax. We went on some countryside walks and explored the local area which has lots to see and do. Lucy and Freddie were really friendly, and kindly left some breakfast supplies for us. Would thoroughly recommend this beautiful property.

Set close to the main house in breathtaking countryside. Perfect country to explore on foot or by bicycle along the Kennet and Avon Canal or National Cycle route 4. We have fast roads to Swindon 20mins, Newbury 15 mins, Hungerford 4 mins and Marlborough 10 mins and only 6 mins to Junction 14 of M4. It's more shabby chic than luxury as we sadly don't have an open fire but underfloor heating, good beds and great views. Kids love playing football and others table tennis. We have lots of space.
Large barn conversation with high ceilings. One large double and one small/child single. Double doors open onto your own terrace for breakfast or suppers. The garden is great too for picnics or you can just move tables around and dine in open countryside.
We are wonderfully situated for the historic towns of Hungerford and Marlborough but easy distance to Newbury, Andover and Swindon, all about 30 mins from us. Open countryside with good walks, wonderful pubs, good restaurants and wonderful cycle routes. It feels like being on holiday every day. There is a local swimming pool and a tennis court 6 mins drive away. If you like the theatre there is the wonderful Watermill in Bagnor (20 mins) and the Marlborough summer school which offers people classes in a variety of skills as well as concerts and exhibitions. At Easter the Newbury Spring Festival is wonderful and the bookshop in Hungerford are always holding literary events. In Great Bedwyn the local shop and post office offers delicious bread which can also be ordered. Cobbs our local shop is a first rate Farm Shop with in the summer months, "pick your own" and all year round truly delicious cheese counter, butcher, fishmonger and florist - if you time your visit you might find they are holding an open air cinema event. In Hungerford the shops are great too with White Coco, Libby Blackley, Roxtons and Bow House designs. Antiques are a huge draw in Hungerford with lots of shops and an antique parade. There is a Catholic Church in Hungerford as well as CofE and many other faith churches. Highclere is close by (20 mins) as is the Sandham Memorial Chapel where you can see the stunning Stanley Spencer murals. Wolf Hall, although private flats now, it is possible to view from the outside and it still gives one a good impression of Henry VIII meeting Jane Seymour - it is about 15 mins away from here. Crofton Mill on the Kennet and Avon canal is a steam (beam) engine still working today and has been for 200 years. You can get to it by following the tow path at the end of our drive.
  • A great stay as always. My third visit with more to come

  • Bloody loved it. Perfect place to hide away from a manic life. Peace and quiet at last. Lovely place. Perfectly decked out. Ten hour sleeps in the sublime bed, hours of solitude to read and some great runs in the glorious hills surrounding. The perfect escape. 5 stars in every department. The only negative thing - was having to leave. x

  • Elizabeth was a great host, who was really friendly and accommodating. The barn was great - clean, cosy and the kitchen had everything you needed. Great location with Hungerford town only a 5 min drive away, and Newbury just over 20 mins away. We went to one of her restaurant recommendations (The Pheasant Inn), which was well worth money. Would highly recommend and will stay again if we're in the area.

  • A beautiful and peaceful bolt hole with the most wonderful hosts. We were welcomed with fresh bread, milk and eggs and that really set the tone for a lovely and relaxing weekend break. It is very comfortable and well designed, and a great base for exploring a great part of the world. We hope to come back again soon, perhaps this time with our dogs! Thanks again!

  • The Barn was perfect in every way. Very comfortable living space, dining space and well equipped kitchen. The bedroom was lovely and spacious - and we slept so well in that bed! Lovely comfy bed. Location is ideal for walking from the house in various directions - either through the forest or along the canal path. Great Bedwyn and Wilton were delightful. The Swan in Wilton was a favourite of ours as far as a pub goes. And for pretty thatched cottages. Our hosts were very welcoming and available. Cannot fault it!

  • We had a fantastic new year's stay at christophers. It was everything we were after - comfortable, cosy, clean and really convenient from London. • Pip’s hen house is marvellous. It is exactly the same as the photos shown on the web, that is sparklingly clean, spacious, nicely decorated and well-equipped. It is highly comfortable to stay in the house to spend our holiday (5 days this time). Pip is very friendly and welcoming. A true super host. Thanks for your hospitality! Will recommend to anyone looking for holiday house in the area.

  • We stayed for three nights at the Hen House and loved it. It was beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and contained all of the amenities we needed. The location was great too. Very peaceful and scenic and lots of lovely places nearby to visit. Our young son loved seeing the chickens roaming around and visiting the cows, horses and baby ducklings each morning.

    Catherine2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at The Hen House (2 adults and a 2 year old). It was stylishly decorated and seriously impeccably clean. Until you have a toddler rolling around on the floors you don't tend to notice the difference between "clean" and "sparklingly clean". The Hen House was the latter. Really excellent and thoughtful touches were provided, from Nespresso capsules (including Decaff!) and a comprehensive local info/attractions folder, to delicious eggs for breakfast. Ideal for a toddler as all on one level and close to lots of farm animals to meet and a fantastic playground only 5 mins walk away. Really highly recommended.

  • Lovely long weekend in Hungerford. The cottage is very conveniently located; the train station and different stores and restaurants are all within 10-15 minutes walking distance. Being right next to the Hungerford Common also means that you can go out the door and start walking in the countryside. It also means you’re in a quiet area. The cottage was clean and had everything I was expecting. The host was very communicative and helpful. She responded quickly to any questions I had and gave good directions for finding the cottage. It’s a cozy and warm place - perfect for a quiet evenings of reading on the couch. I’d very happily stay there again.

The place was clean and had a cosy atmosphere. The bed was big and comfy. The shower was decent and hot. A breakfast croissant was left discretely on the doorstep for us. All in all, we had a great stay and would be happy to come back!

  • Sarah was a great host, making a special effort to go out and get milk for when we arrived and providing croissants in the morning. The space was lovely, really homely and the log burner was a definite benefit! Great location for a weekend in the secluded countryside but with decent links to towns. Would recommend a stay there!

Quirky cabin in secluded location with private deck to sit and watch the fish swim by. Comfortably appointed with en suite shower room and underfloor heating. Within easy walking distance of the centre of the unique rural market town of Hungerford. A hidden gem.
This hexagonal cabin is situated at the end of our garden in a secluded and peaceful location. The cabin comprises a 25 square metre bedroom with vaulted ceiling and en suite shower room. The space is comfortably appointed with King size bed, sofa, easy chairs, underfloor heating, tv, coffee machine and free wifi. Outside there is a private deck overlooking the river where you can sit and look out for kingfishers.
Hungerford is a small and friendly market town with plenty of interesting history for those so inclined. It benefits from lovely walks and its open common land is home to lots of interesting wildlife, fauna and flora. Take time to visit the myriad of antique shops and to try the fare at many of the excellent eateries in town. For those who like to burn a little more energy, there are many excellent on and off road cycle routes to try - just ask us and we can recommend something to fit the bill. We also have good access to two renowned long distance footpaths, the Ridgeway 10 miles to the north and the Wayfarer's Walk, 5 miles to the south.
  • Can’t recommend this place enough. Felt welcomed straight from the off, very thoughtful and kind hosts. The space was just right for me and the bed was super comfy. Recommend walking along the canal to Bedwyn was a stunning walk, was proper chilled all weekend

  • Hilary is a brilliant host and made our first air bnb experience very enjoyable. The cabin was extremely comfortable and very clean. Will definitely be returning.

    Amber2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Hilary is a fantastic and thoughtful host and the way she has presented the cabin is outstanding. The surroundings are stunning and couldn’t fault our night there.

    Christopher2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Hilary and Richard are the most amazing friendly hosts, made us feel very welcome and relaxed, the little barn by the river is stunning, the bed is so comfortable and everything is beautifully clean, with lovely little extras, tea, coffee, fruit biscuits etc really nice touches. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend we hope to go back in the spring. Thank you both for a perfect little getaway. Denise and Alex

    Denise2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Hilary was the most wonderful host, such a beautiful place and spot. Coffee machine great touch and beautiful linen. Riverside deck and chimnea so perfect in the evenings. Had the best stay. Highly recommend and hungerford is so lovely to explore. We were left to our own devices but Hilary made us very aware that she was available anytime for anything. Felt truly at home.

    Deborah2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely spacious and warm cabin just a short walk from Hungerford high street. Hilary and Richard were very helpful in recommending walking routes and also places to eat. Great country get away weekend!

    Lewis2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Hillary and Richard are absolutely brilliant hosts. The thing we liked was that they are happy to chat if you’d like or give you space and privacy if you need. The Barn sits at the end of their garden and is far enough away from their house that you have your own little world and don’t feel on their turf (or them on yours). There’s a little balcony that overlooks a river, an en-suite shower and toilet, and a fridge, sofa and desk, and most importantly a Nespresso machine which went down really well. The Barn is really well insulated and we were toasty warm even in winter. Hillary and Richard are warm and welcoming, inviting you into their home for breakfast as if you were an old friend, but are happy to bring food to you at the barn (or leave you to your own devices) if you’d rather. They were very generous, going above and beyond, even giving us a lift at one point. We had a lovely time, the location was perfect for Hungerford, and we’d make a trip back in a heartbeat.

Our log cabin is a self contained unit at the bottom of our garden. There is one large living area, which has a double bed, sofa and basic cooking facilities. The bathroom has a toilet and shower. The village pub is less than a 5 minute walk and serves great pub food (though currently closed due to Corona) Lovely countryside walks are on your doorstep. If you are needing to self isolate due to Covid-19, this is the perfect place to do it. We are very rural and you can live in peaceful isolation.
After receiving some negative feedback about the sofa bed, we have replaced this with a standard double bed. Please ignore any reviews complaining about the bed being uncomfortable. We are great for people wanting a countryside retreat, people coming for work and those travelling the UK. Please note that the pool is outside, so only available between late May and mid- September. We have basic cooking facilities including a fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, double hot plate, pots and pans etc.
We are a mile or so from the beautiful Welford Estate. This is most famous as it is the location of the Great British Bake Off. They also open their gardens during snow drop season, which is absolutely stunning. We are 15 minutes from Newbury , 10 minutes from Hungerford and 30 minutes from Marlborough. We are close to the Newbury showground, Newbury racecourse, Highclere castle (Downton Abbey), the Watermill theatre, the Corn Exchange and the Kennet and Avon canal. As we are so close to the M4, we are a good stopping off point between London and Bath. We are under an hour from Heathrow, Bath, London, Winchester, Oxford, Stonehenge, the New Forest and the Cotswolds.

  • Really beautiful lodge in a lovely area! Would definitely recommend if you want to experience the English countryside.

    Hannah2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Extremely clean, quiet and comfortable log cabin.. which despite the near sub-zero temperatures was very cosy. Emma gave me very detailed instructions as I was arriving late and was welcoming of my dog. Will definitely stay again if I need somewhere in this area

    Catherine2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay at Emma’s cabin. The local pub serves great food and is dog friendly but Emma has also added a convection stove so cooking is an option. Heating was great again and bed is comfy.

  • A lovely wooden cabin - warm, cosy and comfortable.

    Debbie2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Another amazing stay in the cabin. Was slightly worried about staying due to the storm thought the rain and wind would be loud but this was not the case at all. Didn’t really hear the weather at all and the cabin maintained heat well and the high quality bedding made it a very cozy night. Nice to see the addition of the induction hob allowing more cooking options, although the closeness of the 5 bells pub is still a massive + Another great stay

Our dogs and teenagers thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and we came away very relaxed. We were able to do various different walks, and visited Stonehenge, the Wilton Windmill and Wilton Water, and ate at various local pubs and cafes. All in all a great stay.

  • My son and family came over from Australia for a family wedding. The place was a perfect location for them and the accommodation was very comfortable, particularly all bedrooms having their own bath/shower room. The kids loved seeing the farm animals too. Would definitely recommend it for anyone with a large family.

  • This is a real find, spotlessly clean with better amenities, cleanliness and service than I have had from most European hotels, don’t hesitate this is one of the best AirBnB properties we have stayed n, thank you for everything Pip, this was a special trip for a big birthday.

    Peter2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is clean, the sofas and beds are comfy. En-suite in every room is an amazing feature and one I valued a lot. Pip was friendly and welcoming. The area is gorgeous and the cottage is so quiet and peaceful. Only downfall is the WiFi isn’t very strong and cuts out regularly. But if you’re not there to work, all good! Thank you, Pip. I’ll definitely stay again.

    Amy2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Stables is the nicest AirBnB we have ever visited. Set on a farm and close to many attractions. A beautiful interior space with three en-suite bedrooms. We didn’t want to leave.

Great Bedwyn is a pretty, rural Wiltshire village between Marlborough and Hungerford. Situated on the Kennet & Avon Canal, the village has an amazing cafe (Wendy's, at the Croquet Club, open Monday - Saturday, which has a varied menu but particularly excellent vegetarian food) pub, The Three Tuns, which serves gastropub type food (we strongly recommend booking prior to arriving - please note it is closed on Sunday evening and lunchtime Monday), a post office with bakery, shop, church and a mainline railway station with lines running direct to Paddington and the West Country. There is a wonderful Michelin-starred restaurant, The Harrow, a mile away, a fish and chip van on Tuesdays, wood-fired pizza at the village hall car park every Wednesday, and many other excellent pubs and restaurants in the surrounding villages. We can book tables/taxis for you prior to arrival. The area itself is full of historical interest - just minutes from the house are the Grade I Listed Crofton Beam Engines, Wilton Windmill, a thatched 13th Century chapel, the K & A canal (you can see narrowboats from our garden) and Savernake Forest. The village and surrounding area is perfect for walkers, bikers and cyclists to explore, with National Cycle Routes running through the village. The closest towns are Marlborough and Hungerford, which are seven and five miles away respectively. Also within easy driving distance are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Avebury and Stonehenge, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow, Salisbury Plain, Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey), the Caen Hill flight of 27 canal locks and Wadworth Brewery in Devizes, the Ridgeway and Uffington White Horse. This part of Wiltshire is also a hotbed of crop circles in summer! The cities of Salisbury and Bath are around an hour's drive away.

I also wasn’t going say much about Vonnie’s great hospitality either...because if you do then it may get booked up so I can’t stay again soon. • This charming cottage is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The personal touches throughout make this one of my favorite places I’ve stayed with through AirBnb. I felt so at home and at peace. The energy of the cottage is truly special. I will definitely return on my next trip to Wiltshire.

  • This is such a beautiful coach house. The decor was incredibly lovely and we had such a restful and relaxing time. Ramsbury was a perfect village get away from London. We had great food at the Bell pub right next door. It was great to have maps for local walks of which there were plenty. The only thing we would say was that the mattress in the downstairs room was quite hard and this made it tricky to pick rooms. Other than that though it far exceeded our expectations. We were so grateful to arrive to fresh milk, eggs bread and coffee and muesli they were such lovely touches which we really appreciated. We also enjoyed the local town of Hungerford and Marlborough which were perfect for charity shops, antique hunting and afternoon tea. We would love to return and highly recommend the coach house.

  • We had a wonderful weekend stay at Ducks Cottage and are already planning our next visit! The continental breakfast was a lovely touch and we enjoyed cooking it whilst looking at the horses and pigs - something you don’t get in your normal every day routine. It was the perfect retreat for a relaxing trip. There were brilliant recommendations - we did the circular walk from the cottage (braved Storm Dennis!) and headed to the Three Tuns for a delicious dinner. It’s so helpful to have tips and tricks of the area! We would definitely recommend this lovely cottage. Thank you Tors.

  • The cottage was beautiful, cosy and warm given that we stayed on a very cold November weekend. It was so relaxing to wake up to gorgeous views each morning and the local countryside is full of lovely walks and pubs. Highly recommended!

There are ducks, horses and pigs in the farm and you can truly connect with nature. The cottage is clean and Tors has provided great breakfast items, including fresh eggs. Our village is in the North Wessex Downs and along the Great West Way. There's so much to enjoy: Visit Savernake’s ancient trees in Henry VIII’s hunting forest, wander beside colourful narrow boats on the Kennet & Avon canal or follow the Romans' footsteps in the secluded Brail wood. Wilton windmill & Crofton Beam Engines are working reminders of our industrial heritage, still grinding corn & supplying canal water. Why not #stayawhile and request our 3 night stay offer: £150 double, £130 single
A private bedroom with a comfy double bed and en-suite shower. Optional twin beds. Travel cot available. It's ground-floor so might be suitable for some guests with limited mobility (contact us to discuss any particular mobility requirements and we'll help if we can). The room can be entered directly from the parking area through the utility room at the front, or up garden steps at the back. You’ll be given your own key to come and go as you please during your stay and are welcome to sit out in the garden. A continental breakfast is served in the adjoining dining room or outside on the decking on warm sunny days. If you prefer a more substantial breakfast there is a delightful community café by the recreation ground opposite serving many breakfast options, including a full English, with vegetarian and vegan choices too. There’s an off-road parking space for your vehicle and, if arriving by train, Bedwyn station, on a direct line from Paddington, London, is less than 5 mins walk from the house. We can accommodate bicycles securely undercover overnight. Our house is just a short distance from the Kennet & Avon towpath and a Sustrans cycle route so is an excellent location for an overnight stop for walkers or cyclists travelling between Bristol, Bath and Reading.
Great Bedwyn lies on the edge of the Pewsey Vale, along The Great West Way and within the North Wessex Downs 'a unique and spectacular landscape that includes tranquil open downland, ancient woodland and chalk streams in the centre of southern England'. Our village has all the advantages of a traditional English village, a pub, cafe, post-office with bakery and a convenience store all just a short walk from our house. The chip van visits on Tuesdays and the mobile wood-fired Pizzas on alternate Wednesdays in summer. We're ideally situated for overnight stays for canal walkers and cyclists and if you're staying a little longer there's so much to see and do just a short drive away. if you are visiting from abroad you might like to use us as an economical base for day trips further afield; Bath, Oxford, Winchester, Salisbury or Stonehenge – all just an hours drive away, and London an hour and half by train. If you are taking advantage of our 3 night offer of £150 then here’s just a suggestion of how you might spend a relaxing weekend locally: Arrive Friday for an evening meal at our village pub The Three Tuns. Saturday visit Crofton Beam Engines in the morning, coffee or lunch in their café, then take the circular 5 mile walk through the Brail which conveniently passes The Swan in Wilton for further refreshment. In the afternoon visit the market town of Marlborough known for its wide high street and many independent shops and restaurants. Stay in town for an evening meal out. Rick Steins or Dan’s at The Crown for a treat, or there are also plenty of traditional rural pubs that we can recommend. Sunday morning stroll across to Wendy’s community café for either a slap up full English breakfast or later for Sunday lunch there, vegetarian and vegan choices a speciality, or lunch at The Three Tuns. In the afternoon visit the windmill (on Sunday afternoons in summer months there are trips to the top of the mill) and take a country walk – there is a great choice of local routes. Then a relaxing Sunday evening back at No 10 preparing to leave for home Monday morning after a continental breakfast with us. And on your way home perhaps a visit to Hungerford, renowned for its interesting antique and collectors shops and arcade. That’s a pretty full weekend in the countryside – all within 7 miles of our B&B! See our guidebook for even more suggestions.
  • Excellent B&B, spotless, comfortable, welcoming and helpful hosts. Super breakfast. Highly recommended.

  • We stayed here in order to visit The Harrow. Judy & Dave were wonderful hosts, couldn’t do enough for us including driving us to dinner. Given the challenge of getting taxis this is incredibly kind and helpful. The room itself is the perfect size for two, cosy and very well equipped with a brand new, gleaming shower. Would not hesitate to recommend.

  • Great stay, thank you Judy!

  • Wow! We are so pleased to have discovered Great Bedwyn- such a pretty village with many lovely features, a range of restaurants/pubs/cafes in the area and excellent local walks. Judy & Dave Rae attentive and lovely hosts and their accommodation is immaculate, comfortable and tasteful decorated. Breakfast is a bonus. You’ll be pleased you booked here.

  • Where is the 6th Star? Her name is Judy, she lives at Number 10 and she is an awesome hostess. The accommodation was way more than we expected, and we were looked after so well. Judy’s attention to detail was evident, we can’t think of anything she had omitted from the room, and the breakfast had loads of choices and was freshly prepared. Dave and Judy gave us advice regarding places to visit; Avebury, Marlborough and Stonehenge to name but a few and even lent us guide books to assist and travels. The main purpose for our visit was to enjoy dinner at The Harrow; Dave offered not only to take us there, but to bring us back again quite late at night. May I suggest that Dave is the 7th Star that should be available in these reviews? Check this venue out, you will not be disappointed.

  • Great communication. Very clean. Judy a great host. Very helpful. Lovely local walks.

  • Judy’s place was a perfect place for us to stay while cycling the Kennet and Avon canal. Our bikes were locked away overnight, the room had everything we needed and more, we had a great breakfast, and The village pub has excellent food. We highly recommend Judy’s annexe to stay and the village and local area is beautiful to explore.

A rural chic cottage located in the grounds of the owners' house. In the heart of a delightful Wiltshire village, minutes' walk from the pub, train station (direct to London), canal, and village shop. All recently refurbished to a high standard, combining heritage features and modern amenities. Two double bedrooms, upstairs bathroom and downstairs shower room. Ideal for the perfect stay in glorious Wiltshire countryside
We'll set you up with breakfast items, and can provide cooked meals by prior arrangement (Antonia is a trained chef and nutritional therapist so can cater to any taste or dietary requirement). We've also got a couple of bicycles which you're welcome to borrow to explore the area.
Great Bedwyn is an ancient settlement and is a lovely village. It's adjacent to the Kennet and Avon canal and just over ten minutes drive to the market town of Marlborough. You're surrounded by wonderful Wessex countryside, with great walks, pubs and views as well as ancient places such as Avebury.
  • This cozy cottage is bigger than the pictures suggest. It’s clean, well-decorated, and there are thoughtful touches around every corner - kids movies, board games, candles, and a kitchen stocked with all the basics to get you started on dinner. We especially loved the local, fresh bread - I try to avoid gluten, but this bread was well worth it! Nick was quick to respond and offered local tips. We definitely recommend Wendy’s Cafe and Juice Bar. If you’re traveling with kids, good to know there are toys inside and a playground right outside. We took a morning stroll to the next village over, taking in green space and local attractions along the way. We loved our stay and would highly recommend to the next family.

One Double Bed/Twin Beds in the main bedroom plus 2 x camp beds (comfortable, adult-sized) and a cot which can be set up on request. Kintbury is a beautiful village on the Kennet and Avon Canal, 5 minutes from Hungerford and 10 minutes from Newbury. It has 3 pubs, lots of lovely walks and a village shop & butcher. The flat is light, bright, well appointed and neutrally decorated. It is entirely separate from the main house, with its own independent entrance, and is surprisingly spacious.
The flat is lovely and light with a huge bedroom, large bathroom, well equipped kitchen, a dining table with four dining chairs, sitting room with large sofa and arm chair. There is also a balcony with chairs overlooking gardens. The main bed can be set up either as a double or as two singles. We also have two comfortable, adult-sized, camp beds and a baby bjorn travel crib which can be set up on demand. Default arrangement is 1 x double bed. Please let us know in advance if you require any other arrangement.
Kintbury is well known for the lovely Dundas Arms pub which sits between the River and Canal and is only a 10 minute walk from our house. We also have the Blue Ball pub, just a 2 minute walk, which offers excellent food (including wood fired pizzas) and has a large and child-friendly garden with climbing frames. There are countless lovely walks in all directions, including along the canal to both Newbury and Hungerford and there is a playground in the village. We are also only about a 10 minute drive from the wonderful Watermill Theatre.
  • Had a lovely stay in this stylish, spacious and homely apartment. Great location in a picturesque village. Would definitely stay again.

  • We stayed overnight during a couple of days walking (three friends with two dogs). The flat was great, lovely to have a balcony off the lounge/kitchen, bedroom was huge as was the bathroom. We went out for dinner but plenty of pans etc if you wanted to cook. It's a great location with plenty of walking nearby and a couple of nice dog friendly pubs in the village too, perfect for us

    Pippa2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • This accommodation is beautiful, the bedroom is huge and so is the bathroom. Everything is provided for bathing/showering. The lounge area is lovely and kitchen has everything you would need for a stay here. The balcony is a nice extra space to sit out, unfortunately we didn't have time to do this. We would highly recommend this place and wish we had booked an extra night to fit everything in. The village is lovely with 2 excellent pubs. We had a superb meal in the Blue Ball and the staff in there were very friendly. The Dundas Arms is by the canal with some lovely walks and the train station is there so a very good location. The hosts provided local information which was very helpful.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful spacious bedroom, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the bathroom is lovely. We appreciated the written information available in the accommodation. The communication was great before our stay providing us with everything we needed to know. The place was very clean and looks exactly like it does on the pictures – lovely! Thanks for a great overnight.

  • Kintbury is a picturesque perfect English village... this Airbnb is a big apartment with great amenities. A lovely place to stay. Wish we could have stayed longer.

    Nicola2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Nice clean flat over garage of private house. We had our own entrance and got the key from a key safe. Lovely big bedroom, bath and walk in shower as well as shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in the en suite. The kitchen had fridge, oven, hob kettle coffee, tea bags etc all worked fine and were perfectly adequate for our stay. Comfy sofa and chairs as well as a kitchen table and chairs. Free wifi was good and worked fine with 3 of us using it! The balcony overlooking the garden was nice especially as the evening was warm when we were there. Only enough parking for one car but street parking by entrance. The streets are narrow in the village but we still managed to park a car safely very close by. Communication was very good, appreciated that they set up 2 camp beds for us leaving the double bed for our mother. The matresses on the camp beds were a bit thin for our taste but we managed to sleep ok. Didnt notice any traffic noise as flat set back from road. Lovely village with shops, pubs canal, railway station. Hungerford is very close and had a Tesco store. We would certainly stay again if in the area.
