Places to stay in Saul

Places to stay in Saul
Pretty cottage in the heart of Saul with access to local pubs, the Gloucester Sharpness canal and the River Severn. Recently refurbished this light, bright and cosy cottage has plenty of space for all the family including bunk beds, a cot and a toddler bed. The snug sitting room has a log burner - perfect for winter evenings. The large garden and patio area are well equipped for all, and the new kitchen provides a great entertaining space.
The new modern, bright kitchen has plenty of space for playing, cooking, eating and enjoying the bird life in the garden from the large bi-fold doors. Through the hallway where there's room for coats and shoes into the cosy sitting room which has a new log burning stove, two snug sofas and a smart TV - perfect for winter evenings by the fire! Up the stairs there are three bedrooms and a family bathroom, all recently decorated. The master bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has two full size (single) beds (bunk bed) and the back bedroom has a cot. This cottage mixes the charm of the old cottage with a sympathetic modern refurbishment.
The local area has plenty for walkers and cyclists alike. With easy access to the Severn Way and the Gloucester / Sharpness Canal there is plenty to see and do. You can pass the time watching the boats along the canal or taking a walk around Saul Junction (stopping for a lovely coffee at the Stables Cafe). Or enjoy a walk down the village green in nearby Frampton on Severn. The area is pretty flat so cyclists can really clock up a few miles! There are great bird watching spots (not least the back garden!), and Slimbridge WWT is only a few miles away - you can even cycle down the canal to get there if you've got the energy! 2 minutes from the house is the fabulous Saul Park - a must for anyone with children. There's lots of space for playing, a mud kitchen, sand pit and much more besides. Stroud and Nailsworth are nearby, both offering lovely cafes and shops. Further afield for shoppers are Cheltenham and Bristol easily accessible from the M5.
  • Laura s cottage is beautifully presented in a quiet village location. We enjoyed a night at the nearby pub , a 15 min walk. Storehouse railway station a 20 min drive.

  • Laura’s cottage is extraordinarily beautiful. We loved the interior design and our kids all the toys in the house. It was so easy for a family with three little kids, because we all immediately felt like home. We can’t thank Laura and her family enough and would like to come back to explore more of the beautiful English landscape.

  • We stayed here for my birthday on the 20th March. It was even better than I could have imagined. Incredibly cosy and a wonderful escape during these stressful times! Andy was more than attentive and it seemed like there was so request too great. It’s an amazing location and the cabin has everything you could need - even hand gel!!!! We will be back with the dog next time to explore the surrounding walks! If your pizzas end up as bad as ours then we recommend the The Lyon Inn pub... the fish and chips were incredible - even as a takeaway. Thank you again. Beth + Fred x

  • This is the perfect place to stay if you just want to get away from everything. The log cabin is lovely and cosy and has heating if it gets a bit cold at night. I loved looking at all of the quirky items which were placed all around the cabin, they were a nice touch. The patio area is lovely too, I enjoyed relaxing by the fire in the evening and making pizza to cook in the pizza oven. If you want to get away from the stresses of every day life then this is the place to stay.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in this cabin. A beautiful secluded spot to relax and a lovely cabin. The host was very helpful and easy to contact throughout our stay. There was information about places to eat which helped us find a lovely restaurant called the Farmers Boy Inn which had amazing pies. We would love to visit again!

  • This is such a lovely little place to stay ,the caravan is beautiful and everything you could need is thought of. We especially enjoyed the outside firepit, great for cooking meals on. Definitely a memorable experience ,would love to stay again sometime!

    Tanya2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Percy's Gypsy Wagon was, somehow, even better than we had expected. Despite the small size of the caravan, it was extremely well stocked, with lots of kitchenware and plenty of blankets (and a wood stove!). Andy and Vicky were kind, helpful, and attentive hosts, and Percy, Max, and the chicken were all delightful! I would highly recommend a stay here.

    Abigail2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The wagon is truly fantastic! Perfect location and the hosts are great. They went the extra mile to make my stay special - nothing was too much.

    Leanne2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous cosy little spot! Exactly as described in the listing. Would recommend walking to the forest bakehouse for lunch!

    Xannie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning, peacefully, tranquil, surreal, chilled, nostalgic I mean their would be so many ways to describe this place all of them good, thank you for allowing us to stay, it was brilliant.

    Stuart2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely unique place to stay to unwind and spend some time away . Communication with the hosts was great and thanks for recommending the farmers boy for dinner! X

    Stephanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect cosy and unusual escape from modern life!

    Sue2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I enjoyed the most splendid three nights at the wagon (we gathered form the reviews that one night only would not suffice). It was great to settle in and get comfortable in the space. We loved how it felt only a few degrees off from camping; it was rustic but cozy and we made do in the small but cleverly-set up space. The adjacent outhouse was adorable and we loved the quirky decor. Andy and Vicky were the best hosts with whom I've ever had the pleasure of staying in my years of using Airbnb; they were present and helpful, offering great tips, taking our dishes to wash, and keeping our water jugs filled. Defiantly plan to book with them again and would highly recommend to others. One thing I will say is that the wagon may be a bit tight for taller guests; the bed, which spans the width of the wagon, fit my friend and me but we're on the shorter side; not sure my husband would have been quite as comfortable, so something to consider when deciding to book.

Underdean Lodge is a lovingly restored 2 double bedroom Georgian lodge on the edge of the Forest of Dean and is the perfect base for exploring both the Forest and the Wye Valley. The lodge includes beautiful period features and a wood burning stove. Dogs welcome. Footpaths lead to the Forest from the front door. We are ideally located adjacent to the A48 for convenient access to Gloucester, Monmouth and Chepstow which are all about 25 minutes away. View 'The Space' for Covid-19 measures taken.
We have restored this Grade 2 listed Georgian gate house sympathetically but with all the modern touches one requires for a comfortable stay away from home. The lodge is warm and cosy and despite its proximity to the road, is extremely quiet, thanks to high quality secondary and double glazing throughout. The house is decorated throughout with prints and photos of the surrounding area and we have a large map in the kitchen to help you plan your days out and country walks. COVID-19 UPDATE: Here is some additional information about the lodge in light of recent government announcements. We hope these put your mind at rest and show that you can still visit yet stay within current rules. - The lodge is located at least 30m from our house and more than 100m from any other neighbours. It also has it's own private parking area. - There are walks into the open countryside direct from the door. - Many of our guests have received online shopping deliveries to the lodge in the past so we know this is possible. - The lodge will be fully aired between guests. - We've implemented a new, even more rigorous, cleaning regime ensuring that all surfaces are throroughly washed with a bleach based cleaning fluid and we wash bedding in Dettol anti bacterial washing detergent (sensitive).
Breathtaking views of the River Severn are accessible just a few minutes walk from the Lodge and for those who want to go further, Forest walks are a 15 minute walk away down a pretty country lane. The Lodge is the ideal base from which to explore the Forest with multiple walks and amenities within the Forest, such as GO APE!, just a 10 minute drive away. The Cock Inn in Blakeney is a superb friendly local with a welcoming fire, lovely beer garden and terrific food as well. Blakeney is also served by a nice Italian restaurant, Dolce Vita, and a decent Fish & Chip Shop. Newnham is also only a couple of miles away. This, again, offers a range of pubs, a great cafe and some lovely shops in which to browse. There is also an excellent local butcher (open on Fridays and Saturdays). Lydney (10 minutes drive away) has a Tesco and Co-op and all the shops and services you'd expect from a mid sized town.
  • A great little cottage in a good location with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The log burner was easy to use and was a cozy addition to the evenings. TV is a little on the small side but this only really mattered in the evenings and most of the time we were too tired from the days activities to bother with it and opted for wine instead! Shower was good and beds comfortable. Perfect accommodation for dogs too as can isolate them from certain areas which was perfect for our puppy. All in all a great stay and good value for money.

    Lucy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing place. Really easy check in process and all the information ready to go. A nice cozy lodge perfect for a country getaway! And even better that it was dog friendly!! Definitely recommend.

    JBaxter2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely quaint and cozy lodge, brilliantly placed for the forest and all it can offer. Great hosts who keep you informed bit leave you to it in the right way. Would definitely recommend and use again. Don’t miss out on this one.

  • Great little get away in the forest of dean

    Luke2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay with so many beautiful places to visit so close by. We were recommended by Chris and Beth to visit Beechenhurst and Perrygrove railworld which were great places to visit with our toddler. We had many gorgeous walks with our dog in toe too, would definitely recommend a trip to Symonds Yat Rock, beautiful views and walks! We would love to come back in spring/summer when all the trees have their leaves, a truly beautiful part of the world! Underdean Lodge was already fitted with stair gates making it safe for our toddler, a cute place to stay for a long weekend, thank you again for having us!!

    Jodi2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a break away

    Jamie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully restored gatehouse lodge held in natural woodland with plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. Beth and Chris were absolutely wonderful hosts; making sure that we had everything we needed with attention to every detail. They made lots of personal touches; sharing local information and bringing extra wood to us for the fire. All in all a thoroughly restorative retreat and base from which you can easily explore the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.

    Ally2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic little spot for a weekend away with the dog. Great local tips and a walking route mapped out. Log burner was the best part for us as we’re not lucky enough to have one at home. Great communication by both Chris and Beth who got back to us really quick with questions we had. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quaint getaway from the hustle and bustle of bigger towns/cities.

Self-contained annexe attached to 16th-century house. Two spacious rooms (double & triple) with views over a pretty walled garden. Shower room and kitchen. Plenty of parking. Self-service breakfast included. Peaceful location.
The single-story annexe (on the far left of the main photo) is attached to our family home and has its own entrance so you can come and go as you please. Dating from the 1950s, it comprises two light and spacious south / west facing double bedrooms, hall, shower room and kitchen, and is surrounded by a large walled garden. (Note that there is no separate sitting room). Apart from the beds, all furniture dates from the early 20th century, so if your style is modern, minimalist, or matching, this may not be the place for you! We provide freshly-laundered bedlinen & towels and each room is equipped with a double bed, sofa, table, wardrobe, television/DVD player, hairdryer and Wi-Fi. Both double beds have new Silentnight Easycare Deluxe mattresses (medium to firm) and we use White Company bedlinen. There is limitless hot water from the combi-boiler and the central heating is on an automatic timer, which you can easily override if you need a warmer or cooler room. The small kitchen has a microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge and is stocked with tea & coffee plus self-service breakfast items (fruit juices, cereals, toast & preserves, yoghurt, pastries). Note that the kitchen does not have a cooker or washing machine. There is plenty of parking available on our driveway, directly outside the annexe. BEDROOM ONE The main bedroom can sleep up to 3 people, having a double bed plus a single sofa-bed which has a proper mattress. The large picture-window faces due west and overlooks the herb garden. BEDROOM TWO This large south-facing room is light and spacious and has a double bed and sofa. Views out over the walled garden. BOOKINGS FOR TWO GUESTS Bookings for 2 people or fewer will have the use of only 1 of the bedrooms unless by prior arrangement, as there will be an additional charge of £10 if both rooms are required. Although close to the M5, Nastend is a small hamlet of only 12 houses on a 'no through' road, accessed via a single-track sunken lane. Situated just off the Severn Vale, close to the Cotswold escarpment, the Cotswold Way national trail passes just 2 miles from here. There are plenty of beautiful walks in this area, from the high open spaces of the limestone commons, through the beechwoods along the escarpment to the fields and lanes in the valleys. The recently restored Stroudwater canal goes right past the end of our lane and is perfect for walking, running or cycling towards Stroud, which is 5 miles away. From there, you can either continue along the canal towards Chalford and Cirencester, or take the old route of the railway to Nailsworth which has been converted to a cycle track. We regularly use these safe, scenic routes and can recommend various very lovely cafés along the way. There are plenty of places to eat out, our local is the very popular Old Badger at Eastington, which is just over a mile away. We also spend many happy evenings at the Bell Inn at Selsley which is always excellent. Both are very popular, so we would recommend advance booking. We have lots of other favourites... too many to list here!

  • Lilac lodge is absolutely beautiful. Spotlessly clean too and very well equipped. The information Laura sent out before arrival was great and check in was faultless. We could relax and enjoy our weekend straight away. Plenty of information for things to do and lots of board games to play. We would love to come back and stay again, hopefully when the weather is better and we can enjoy the outside space too. The views are amazing!

  • This farmhouse B&B really exceeded my expectations! It’s super. Directions given are excellent, and check-in instructions are super clear and photos help you find everything. Really appreciated the private entrance to the room I stayed in, saving interrupting anyone in the house if you don’t want to or it’s late. The rooms are thoughtfully & comfortably furnished, the shower is lovely and hot, fresh milk is provided in the room with tea, coffee, hot choc etc and the little jar of shortbread was a delightful addition. Breakfast is included and delicious - my eggs on sourdough were cooked to perfection, great coffee & OJ but Camilla will make you anything you fancy. Lovely farmhouse relaxed feel. If you have dogs, it’s really relaxed dog friendly environment with big open fields on the doorstep to walk in! Frank & Camilla are absolutely lovely, considerate hosts who are really friendly without being too involved, really happy for your dogs to be welcome anywhere and also do Horse Carriage rides with Cream Tea - which I’d love to try when the good old British weather finally dries out. Great hosts, great value, great location, great experience! Thanks both - hope to see you again soon x

  • A beautiful house full of character, cosiness and English country charm. The views from the nearby hill are delightful and Tilly was the most naturally attentive host. Louis the dog is a steady fellow and Hector and Hamish, the ponies did a great job of lugging us around the local countryside despite us having filled up on a hearty breakfast featuring some of the best poached eggs and granary bread I've had forever. Highly recommended.

  • Our stay at Gail’s was excellent! The space felt very homely and made for a wonderful base to explore Gloucester and the Cotswolds from. The dogs were wonderful and the hot tub was exactly what we needed after a long drive from London. We took a rental car that was a little bigger than we expected and this was a bit tricky on the driveway. We managed fine but if you are not a confident driver this might trip you up. Other than that, all you need to know is that you will love your stay here! Book now :)

    Ryan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy nook, nestled in a hillside, overlooking gorgeous countryside. Our stay was peaceful and restful. Just the tonic.

    Elsa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a view! This is an away-from-it-all space that you can't fail to relax in. The hot tub is a bonus, and the place is a charmingly compact space for two.

  • Steph is a fabulous host with a superb annex for you to enjoy. A modern stylish space which has all you need for a relaxing stay. The hot tub and sauna make for a touch of luxury which we really enjoyed. Comfortable and relaxing all round. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Jay and Jen 😊

    Jason2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend staying here, the annex is absolutely stunning, decorated beautifully and the hosts provide many extra touches which contribute greatly to the overall stay! The hot tub and sauna area is private and accessible, and the hosts Stephanie and Gordon are brilliant, greeting us and giving us a tour on check in, recommending places to visit and saying farewell to us on departure! The location is really lovely, there are plenty of walks to do around lakes, estates and along canals, and there’s a lovely local pub which has a lovely atmosphere, and takeaway restaurants; which we didn’t get to use but definitely would have if we were to stay longer. Thank you both so much for our stay!

  • My husband & I spent two nights for our first wedding anniversary and we were very impressed with the cleanliness and hospitality. Stephanie and her husband are excellent hosts and they gave us privacy throughout our stay. We loved the use of the hot tub and and although the weather wasn’t the best we enjoyed spending time in local pubs eating/drinking. The local chinese buffet restaurant (which was recommend by Stephanie) was also a very good place to eat. We will definitely book again in the future.

    Harley2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay! The annex was ideal and hot tub really made it for us. Very clean, more than what we needed. Breakfast bits were lovely and a bottle of prosecco was a lovely touch. Small issue was that the shower head kept lowering itself which made having a shower a little awkward. Would definitely stay again!

  • Very friendly host I recommend his place to all my friends thanks mr Steve definitely I will come back to your place *****

    Cristian2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • This airbnb exceeded our expectations. It's very clean, great location, great hosts, and much larger and more stunning than the photos display. The pictures do not accurately portray how great this place is. An added bonus was the heated flooring. I was worried I would be cold, but I did not need to fear--we were toasty warm the whole time. The hosts were fantastic--really great people. They had everything set up for our baby upon arrival, and even sourced some toys for him to play with. It was really great of them. Also, the pack and play had a pack and play mattress in it, which really helped our son to be comfortable and sleep well (most places just have the pack and play with the harder, slightly padded board to sleep on--this one had the added mattress on top of that for extra comfort). This was a much appreciated touch. There is no wifi, and reception on the phone was a bit weak in the area, but it was also kind of nice to be disconnected from our devices for a few days, and it was also expected as stated in the listing. The location of the airbnb is great--glocestershire is a gorgeous countryside, no matter what time of year. You're minutes away from some beautiful walks and viewpoints, cute cotswold towns, plus Bath (getting in and out of bath was no problem, we used the Landsdown Park and Ride, which was very convenient and easy). The hosts were outstanding and were very helpful with suggestions for places to go, how to get there, and so on. Very friendly, the type of people you could chat for hours with. I would not hesitate to recommend this place. In fact, we wished that we spent more time there and less time in London.

    Lisa2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our five days stay at Steve’s place. Steve is a great host, very hospitable and so is his wife. They were always available to offer help and tips as needed. And they were really very nice with our kids. The house is very clean, stylish and well equipped with very good amenities. It also has a private parking space, huge garden as well as a play area for the kids few steps nearby. The location is also very good. We used it as a base for making day trips to the Cotswolds, Bath, Bristol and Oxford and it worked really well. It is also conveniently close to a supermarket. We stayed at five different places during our last UK trip and Steve’s place was the one we loved the most, and by far. I would highly recommend Steve’s place for both long and short stays.

    Ramy2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed here for two nights whilst visiting Bath and the Cotswolds (we wished we could have stayed longer). We were pleasantly surprised by the accommodation. The pictures do not do this lovely place justice. If you are looking to rent in this area, look no further - this property is a real gem. The owners had thought of everything to ensure we had a comfortable stay. We were met on arrival and given a tour of the property. The house is a good size for two/3 people. It's not 'tiny'. Everything was brand new and spotlessly clean. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and fruit juice provided was a very nice touch. The welcome pack and a well organised folder containing maps and tourist information was very useful. We had everything we needed. We will definitely be making a return visit.

    Claire2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very warm welcome from Steve and Lorraine, they ensured we had everything we needed before leaving us to settle in. The annex is newly renovated with modern touches and was sparkling clean. Nice open plan space, comfortable furnishings, everything you need for a self catering stay. Also room for parking and private patio area. Information and local guides provided, ideally located to explore the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and we took a 45mins to drive to visit Bath, so can reach destinations in Somerset and Wiltshire easily from Steve's place. Steves dogs are super friendly, we loved saying hello to the dogs however they did not seek us out, equally if you dont like dogs Steve can keep them away. Beautiful lawns which we were welcome to use, also access to local walks, pub near by (we did not have time to visit) and a supermarket a short drive away. The annex was perfect for our holiday and we will be looking to stay again soon!

  • Beautiful house in a quite but easily accessible location. Great communication throughout and cannot fault in anyway.

    Catherine2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Dairy is a great place for a country getaway - warm, cosy, beautifully decorated and impeccably clean and tidy when we arrived. Arrival is easy with the key in a lock-box, and the place was easy to find. The mezzanine doesn’t give 100% privacy but can’t be seen from the main living space so was totally satisfactory for us. Would warmly recommend to anyone!

  • The Little Dairy is a total gem of place. Stylish, spotlessly clean, warm and lots of homely touches. We (2 adults a 1 year old and a 4 year old) stayed for 3 nights in December whilst visiting family nearby. We have stayed in a lot of AirBnB’s and we can happily say this was the best equipped for a young family we have ever stayed in. Stair gates, a great comfy cot bed, spacious bathrooms and high chair all provided, as well as a few lovely toys and books for little ones. WiFi and TV reception were all spot on, as was check in process. We met Rosie and she was absolutely charming and very quick to reply to any questions we had. We knew the area very well so didn’t need much guidance there, but I’m sure Rosie would have been able to help if we did need pointing in the right direction. We will definitely be staying here next time we visit the area. Can’t really say anymore than that :-)

    David2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • I could write a lot of about this place but simply put, we loved it and our kids did not want to leave. We will absolutely stay here again if we are in this area. This home was very clean and well thought out when designed. The home is so stylish, I hope to include several of the features in my own home one day. Thank you again for your helpfulness and hospitality.

    Gordon2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • My 2 teenage children and I had a very comfortable stay at Rosie’s lovely house. It was clean, tidy and met our every need. Rosie was very accommodating to our request to drop our belongings at the house earlier than check in time, which we really appreciated after a long flight. I would highly recommend staying at The Old Dairy.

  • We had a lovely stay in this charming property. Yasmine is a wonderful and welcoming host; there are lots of lovely touches to make your stay more comfortable (e.g toy basket and huge selection of different teas) and our little one loved meeting Yasmine’s animals. The whole place was spotlessly clean too. We had a comfortable stay and wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back; there’s so much to do in easy reach of this location and we only barely scratched the surface!

  • A lovely situation and stylish accommodation Lovely welcome from Yasmin and a wonderful welcoming pack of goodies

  • This place is absolutely stunning both inside and out. The interior is very stylish and has great amenities. Perfect for families or 2 couples. Our baby very much enjoyed the toy box. The location of the property on the Severn way is picturesque and meeting Yasmines animals was a lovely touch for our family. Yasmine as a host was very quick to respond to query’s and the breakfast items were a lovely touch very much appreciated. Would highly recommend this property. Thank you.

  • Yasmine's house is a typical English farm building with horses, sheep and other animals. For those of us who live in the city all the year round, living in addition to being fresh, we can also get a good relaxation. It is worthwhile. The experience of memories. The owner, Yasmine, is very friendly and thanks again!

    利Li2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Yasmine was a great host - the welcome package of milk, jams, teas, bread, bananas and eggs (fresh from her hens!) etc meant that we could delay shopping until after breakfast the next day and she was always on-hand if you needed to ask her anything. The annexe is very well-equipped with everything we needed for our 6 night's stay. A very short walk up the grass bank at the back brings you to the river Severn - we often walked along there after dinner and saw ducks and geese flying overhead. A couple of horses, three sheep a cat and a Labrador completed the picture. For Poldark fans, Epney is a great base as it is within 30 minutes drive of both Berkeley Castle and Chavenage where parts of the series were filmed! Highly recommended!

    Andrew2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended for couples and families with young children. My wife and I spent one day exploring the banks of the river Severn from the rear of the property. We were then joined by our 5 and 2 year old girls and they loved living next to sheep, horses and chickens, as well as Yasmine's cat and dog. Yasmine was a lovely and attentive host and really took the time to make some special memories for our kids but she was also very respectful of our space. The property itself was well equipped, with a great shower and bath and a nice kitchen. There were also some nice touches such as a basket of toys for the kids to play with and some basic breakfast supplies. Would love to visit again one day. Thank you Yasmine!

    Steve2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend at Yasmine's. Yasmine was a great host and very helpful. An excellent location for a walk along the river. Highly recommended.

    Alexander2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • My husband, son and I spent 3 nights at this fantastic Airbnb. The location was extremely quiet and very relaxing. With access to a lovely walk along the River Severn bank. The property was extremely clean with good quality, soft, large towels. Fantastic shower. It was like a home from home with regard to everything that was provided, such as dishwasher tablets, cling wrap. The best surprise was the selection of items provided in the property for breakfast. Yasmine was a charming host, easy to communicate with. I would 100% recommend this Airbnb property and will look forward to returning one day.

Awaken in a sleeping loft when morning light enters through a skylight slotted between century-old beams. Cook breakfast in a full kitchen as a grandfather clock chimes the hour. This former stable of stone and brick is comfortable and fully updated.
The Stables is a one bedroom barn conversion, that many years ago used to be (you guessed it!) the old Stables here at Daniels Farm. The original owner of the stables, Harry, had a particular sense of humour. He named the two horses kept here, Tom and Dick. This obviously led to him becoming the talk of the town! After being lovingly converted in 2005, I'm afraid that these days there's no hay in sight. You enter through an old fashioned 'boot room', with utility facilities and a downstairs bathroom. This opens out into a large country kitchen with a dining area. Straight ahead is your private patio, and to the right you can walk straight through to the separate living area. Fitted with a sofa bed, as well as an additional sofa, the old oak beams and old stable features transport you back in time. Moving upstairs into the bedroom, you should know that we can make it up as two Single beds or as one Super King. There is also an ensuite for your comfort. Most importantly, you can lie in bed and look across the countryside to the River Severn. (TIP: For an even better view in the morning make sure to convince your holiday partner to cook you breakfast and bring it to you in bed!)
The house is one mile from the village of Blakeney, where there's a local shop, post office, and an award-winning fish-and-chip shop. The nearby town of Newnham has a quaint and colourful high street with a butcher, hairdresser, and gift shop.
  • Spent three days at The Stables, Yvonne was very welcoming and took time to meet and greet and explain everything. The Stables is a very comfortable property, very homely and extremely well priced. Close to the local village of Blakeney with Lydney less than 10 minute drive away. Thoroughly recommend a stay. Neil from Newquay

  • Thoroughly enjoyed my birthday break at The stables. Yvonne was very friendly and helpful from booking g to checking out, nothing was too much trouble and she was able to be flexible with the times to work around our baby, which as new parents was really appreciated. The homemade scones were best I've ever tasted and melted in the mouth (I wasn't brave enough to ask for the recipe ha ha). I'm a hobby baker so I've had my fair share over scones over the years! The super fresh milk was udderly delightful (sorry, had to get a pun in there somewhere!) And really made our complimentary tea and coffee taste that extra bit special. There was loads to do in the area and the stables has lots of information on attractions and walks. I stayed with my husband and 6 month old daughter and there was lots to do for us, would like to come back when she's bigger to go to Puzzlewood. There is a shop, chip shop, restaurant and post office just 1 mile away but 10 mins in the car and you will be in Tesco to get all the essentials. The kitchen has everything you need... from small ramekins and egg cups to plenty of plates and glasses. Great to see that recycling is encouraged during your stay with all facilities provided. Accommodation spotless and well looked after, towels, loo roll, dish washer tablets, air freshener etc all provided. The 2 showers were both hot and clean. This was particularly helpful as when baby was napping we could still shower without disturbing her. Selection of DVDs were helpful when not much on TV in the nights. Accommodation was lovely, warm and peaceful. Access and parking to accommodation is ample and easy. Thoroughly recommend staying here and would/will love to come back again! Thanks so much, Yvonne!

  • Lovely home, Yvonne was a great host and the house was perfect for what we needed. Sofa bed could have been a little more comfortable but other than that it was just what we were looking for! Thanks

    Emily2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The Stables was a lovely weekend retreat. Despite Storm Dennis going on outside the place was comfortable and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped - we opted to cook both nights instead of venturing out into the storm and we had everything we needed. There was board games provided as well as a tv. And we were really impressed with the little touches - Yvonne had put out fresh flowers and home made cupcakes. She even popped over and showed us around the dairy farm. Overall, a lovely place to stay in with a host who goes above and beyond.

    Katie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in this lovely little cottage for a 2 night break away from city life. Yvonne was friendly and waiting for us apoun arrival. The cottage was spotlessly clean with everything you need. Huge kitchen and lovely bedroom with a really comfy bed and en -suite The cottage has a real home from home feeling with lovely views. Yvonne's freshly baked cakes were a lovely little welcome touch as was the little jug of fresh milk straight from their cows. We did not go for any walks due to bad weather, however there are lots of local walks and pubs within a short walk or drive. Thank you to Yvonne and her husband for a wonderful stay.

    Alison2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely weekend here. The place was ideal and exactly what we were after. Would definitely stay again if we were to go back to that area

    Matthew2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful renovated stable on a hill. It's a very spacious and clean space, very clearly taken care of for their guests. The fresh milk, and homemade scones were such a lovely little touch. Although we used it for more of a base for our busy weekend, it was such a perfect respite. We had a perfect stay in the Stables, the hosts were accommodating to our late check in time, and left us to settle in. Thank you for the gorgeous weekend. Oh and the stars! When the sky was clear overnight, it was absolutely stunning.

  • Tony is an urbane and friendly host. From the trouble he took over helping us park when arriving, and a much needed cup of tea even though it was late, to his advice on places to eat. His home is spotless and he has taken pains to provide an excellent place to stay - warm, comfortable and interesting. Better still are the stories that Tony can tell you about his work and travels - ranging right across the globe and over many years. A thoroughly recommended place to spend a few days.

  • Excellent n outstanding place to stay with delicious breakfast:)... Very neat and beautiful room with pretty view and the most imp is the great hospitality by Tony. Tony is one of the interesting person I have ever met. He was very helpful n nice to talk with. Actually we didnt had any specific plans to see in cotswolds but Tony not only suggested us the best places to see around but gave us a nice n v joyful ride in his pretty nice narrowboat, which was completely unexpected n nice gesture. We can definitely recommend this place to others. Also we are going to stay here again n again whenever we are in or near cotswolds. A special message from my hubby - though we haven't used much of the Airbnb's but this was the so far best experience we have had and we are very pleased to meet Tony specially.

  • I was tired and stressed after driving 5 hours from North Yorkshire for business the next day. Tony was a life-saver and a very thoughtful host. The lovely house, peaceful location and beautiful canal view with narrow boats and swans, made me wish I could have stayed longer. Warm and welcoming old Inn close-by within walking distance had delicious food. Breakfast was amazing in a stylish dining room overlooking the canal. This is one of the best B&B's that I've stayed in.

The lodge is lovely, extremely clean and modern throughout and the hot tub is a great added extra. Plus, the scones waiting for us on arrival we’re beautiful! • Tracey and David were fantastic from the check-in to check-out . Extremely accommodating and once checked in, left us to enjoy our stay . The suggestions were spot on, we had an incredible meal at the Tudor Farmhouse and plenty of grounds to take our dog for a walk. Gloucester in general is a lovely scenic area . The cottage is extremely cute , especially as it was our 5 year anniversary . The Hot Tub was all prepared for us and lovely. It feels as though you are in the middle of nowhere, lovely and peaceful, yet a short drive from the nearest town and local amenities - perfect. Would highly recommend this as a getaway for any couple , honestly amazing . Thank you both

  • Absolutely amazing stay at the Mill Garden Lodge. I surprised my boyfriend with this for his birthday and Tracey was absolutely amazing, she sorted out some personalised balloons to be at the lodge for arrival and also delicious cake and locally brewed beer for his birthday. The hot tub was amazing, even in the unfortunate storm we had on our stay, we still managed to get into the hot tub and relax! Can’t recommend enough. Thank you very much Tracey for everything you did, it really did make the weekend extra special for my boyfriends birthday.

    Katie2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey was a fantastic host and the lodge is absolutely fantastic. Spotlessly clean and all the facilities you need. The hot tub is well worth the extra money - we spent many an hour relaxing next to the stream in the warmth of the tub. Tracey had left us some home made brownies which were delicious. When she found out it was my partners 30th (on the day of arrival) she left a birthday banner and some locally brewed beer as a birthday treat. Could not fault the whole experience!

    Chris2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Tracey and David! Right from the start you were the most welcoming hosts. Great little touches from the most amazing chocolate brownies we’ve ever tasted to being kind enough to taxi us to and from the Farmers Boy Inn, so that we could celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. The lodge is located in the best place. There is so much to see and do in the local area. Highly recommend this little find. ☺️

The kitchen has everything you could need and we really appreciated the welcome basket and the little touches like dishwasher tablets. There are books and games for entertainment, so no need to bring your own. The check in was smooth and the directions are excellent, so we found it easily despite arriving in the dark. Between the Forest and the River. Orchard Palace is a wooden chalet  in a rural setting deep in the heart of West Gloucestershire, close to the village of Westbury on Severn.  The huge and fascinating Forest of Dean is a few miles to the West, and the lower reaches of the Severn within a few minutes walk. It is, then, ideally placed for family walkers and explorers on foot or bicycle in  the woods, and for the world famous Severn Bore which can be seen at close quarters nearby.
It looks out onto a carefully maintained kitchen garden and a hectare of  orchard managed for wildlife, especially birds. Twenty three different species of birds are recorded, many of them breeding and some quite unusual. Our local amenities are of a very high standard. The Lyon restaurant in Westbury was restaurant of the year last year. We have the now famous fish restaurant the Severn and Wye Smokery five minutes away. The city of Gloucester, with its magnificent cathedral, is 7 miles to the North-East
  • If you want to go off-grid for a true getaway, David's place is idyllic. Situated on David's property, the chalet is very cosy and homely and you can sit and relax and while away an afternoon relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous views. We had a wonderful time relaxing and also enjoying what the local area had to offer nearby - cycling in the Forest of Dean especially. I felt well and truly relaxed after a week staying at David's place. David is a lovely host. Warm and welcoming and helpful with whatever you may need.
