“The claddagh used to be a fishermen village, it has long ago merged with Galway but it still keeps some curiosities, like a king! (yes, you heard well). It is a charming part of town, with super friendly local neighbors and right in the heart of everything.”

“A great location on the seafront in Galway. Park and walk along the promenade and then enjoy a really interesting browse through the National Aquarium, hold a star fish and see the wonderful fish that live in our waters. A good coffee shop too, where you can sit and look over Galway Bay.”

“If you like your beers the Oslo bar should be able to satisfy your every need. Try the local bear sampling platter that will give a taste of the in-house beers. Great food to boot in a seaside location down in The Village Salthill. ”

“If you've heard of Claddagh rings, well this is where they originated. I was born here and baptised in this church. One of the oldest parts of the city, but the distinctive thatched cottages were all demolished in the 1950's. A boat building tradition continues though and you will often see traditional wooden fishing boats called the Galway Hooker with their distinctive triangular sails. In winter most of them are hauled out and stored on the quayside.”

Bar
“This is possibly my favourite restaurant. They have really good beer. Especially my favourite beer Fichers (pronounced fishers). The kids love the chicken wings. I love the Dahl and their fries & onion rings are sooo good! I don't eat meat but I've heard the steak and the burgers and the ribs are excellent. The staff as really nice. The owner is always there which make the high standards upheld. There are games for kids, pool tables, massive screen TV and ..did I mention the beers? Ok I did, but they are worth mentioning again. There is a huge range of craft beers. The staff will help you to select something to your taste. ”

“A busy cafe slightly off the beaten path but get there early for a lunch table as the locals know all about it! The brown bread is divine and you can buy a loaf to go as well as some other baked treats.”

“This is my favorite restanrant in Salthill. The food is realy good and atmosphere is lovely. Its not too formal and is family friendly. Its also nice for a quiet dinner for two (which is how I usually do it!). Good idea to reserve at weekends and during the summer but its not always necessary. ”
