  • Dominique gave us a warm welcome and we had a nice conversation. His house is like a little castle in the Pyrenees. The room was friendly and clean, modern, well equipped and just welcoming :-) We enjoyed our stay and would definately come back when passing by in this area.

  • I have never seen before a such clean flat! Realy amazing. Dominique ist also a very nice person like it was written in other comments. There are many big shops in the next neighbourhood. We had nothing to complain about. For some guests it could be maybe a little bit strange feeling that there was no door to the upper floor but Dominique is so quiet and peaceful person that it didn´t really disturb us. I wouldn´t recommend the accomodation for people with children under 3 years because of the open stairs and cooking possibilities.

  • We really enjoyed stay there. The accomodation is excellent: a big room with private bathroom and a dining room with all the necessary to prepare breakfasts. The location is a good base to visit the region. Dominique is doing a really god job!

  • Made to feel very welcome when we arrived. Very beautiful apartment with stunning views. Very well equipped with everything you need for a short stay. Nice and quiet on a night and the electric blinds blocked out all the daylight. In a lovely quiet location with a 10 minute short walk to the nearest shops and bar. A very nice restaurant in the village. Perfect for anyone wanting a quiet get away break. We had hired a car and within driving distance we were able to see some lovely waterfalls, caves, Chateaux and an idealist lake perfect for swimming and cooling down when the weather gets hot.

  • Dominique has a beautiful house in a quiet neighborhood, which is great for a 'getaway' feeling and for the calm serenity of the countryside. It's not great for trying to find it in the dark. However, once we were arrived, he was a very gracious and accommodating host. He provided us with a private space that included a bedroom, bathroom, and almost a full kitchen (complete with microwave, hotplate, coffee pot, electric kettle, glasses, plates, utencils, etc). He allowed us the opportunity to cook for ourselves and even offered to call and order us pizza delivery if we wanted since his home is far from everything. The only drawback is that he does not speak English. He is fluent in French and knows a little Spanish. So be prepared if English is your only language to have some communication difficulties. Otherwise, he is a superfriendly, well-mannered, and generous host. I highly recommend his airbnb.

  • I stayed in Dominique's house for 3 nights. Unfortunately, he was absent for the weekend but his lovely ex-wife met me with the key and showed me everything. The rental 'unit' is quite large with a nice bedroom, modern bathroom and a sunny breakfast room complete with refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, serving pieces and a couple of chairs to relax in. Nice view also! The neighborhood is very quiet and calm. It's likely the best location in all of Laroque and definitely the most modern. When I return to Laroque d'Olmes, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • Very pretty location and warm and welcoming host. It was a last minute booking and we had a very nice stay.

    David2014-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • we had the most amazing 2 weeks in Dominique's house. The little apartment had everything necessary to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay for the 3 of us....well equipped kitchen, beautiful view from dinning area, lovely bathroom, and an amazing back garden with a barbecue area. There are so many things to do around this little town: Montbel lake (20 minutes drive - great for water sports), Toulouse (2 hours drive - the Space centre was impressive), Perpignan beach (2 hours drive - a great day trip if you want to go to the beach), Pyrenees (1 hour - another great day trip / Spas are great there!), Foix (45 minutes - Amazing castle in the middle of the City), Miropoix (15 minutes - great place for restaurants and a lovely Monday street market), etc. Dominique is such a lovely host!!! He didn't only make us feel at home, but he also gave us a warm welcome and even had cold beers in the fridge for us when we arrived. Despite the fact that his spoken English wasn't great, he went the extra mile getting a translator app so we could (Website hidden by Airbnb) was a very funny experience using the app actually! Anyway, in summary we would go back to Dominique's house in a hearth bit for our next holiday and we would recommend his lovely apartment to any one. Merci Dominique!!!!! Xoxo

  • Nice room in character house in pretty village... Anne-Marie is a considerate and creative and friendly host...

  • Nice, spacious room with comfortable bed in a lovely old house. Bathroom is shared with host. It is very clean. The village is pleasant and while it feels secluded, it is not far to a number of other villages. I enjoyed my stay.

  • Anne-Marie's home is a very old village house in a quiet location near the centre of St-Colombe, which is a sleepy place in lovely countryside not far from interesting and historic places such as Puivert, Montsegur and Mirepoix. Anne-Marie herself was a teacher, now an artist specialising in intricate geometric papercuts, some of which decorate the house. Downstairs there's one big kitchen/living room where Anne-Marie also makes her creations, with a shady garden at the back where you can eat out. The large double room upstairs has a comfy bed, uneven floorboards of great antiquity, and a real feeling of age. There's a shared bathroom but that's not an issue as the only other person to use it is Anne-Marie. Anne-Marie gave us a warm welcome, kindly let us use her facilities to put a cold supper together from supplies we'd brought with us, chatted with us, and laid on a lovely breakfast in the morning. Our one-night stay was excellent value, very relaxing and we really felt at home chez Anne-Marie. We'd have happily stayed longer but were only passing through on the way from the western Pyrenees to the Med coast. Highly recommended for value, character and a welcoming host!

This beautifully appointed FIRST floor apartment within an 18th century house is located in the small riverside village of Ste Colombe Sur L'Hers, some 30 miles south of Carcassonne. The quiet village once part of the area's vibrant textile and jet industries is well located for outdoor pursuits, historical sites and local vineyards including those of the famous Blanquette de Limoux said to be the earliest type of champagne. The apartment has been recently modernised to a high standard.
Access your apartment through your own front door and up a flight of steps- please note these may be unsuitable for those with mobility problems. A fully equipped kitchen/diner awaits you with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher fridge and freezer. Step out from your kitchen onto a large balcony where you will find a BBQ and table and chairs for four persons. Across the hall from the kitchen is the double bedroom with a door to the balcony, fitted wardrobe and drawers. There is room for an extra single bed if required. Down the hallway is a newly appointed shower room with walk in shower, twin basins, built in washing machine, cupboards with ironing board, iron and hair dryer. The loo is adjacent. Your spacious lounge with fine views up the valley towards the mountains has twin sofas (one a double sofa bed) chairs and desk area with TV and space for your laptop or tablet. WiFi is available in this room.
The village boasts a small shop (l'epicerie) which also doubles as the post office. Large supermarkets are 15 minutes away at Lavelanet and a smaller convenience store in Chalabre (5 minutes). There are colourful outdoor markets during the week in the surrounding towns and villages. There is a bar in the village - Studio 620 - which is open most days. There are several restaurants/bars in Chalabre, Puivert, Lavelanet and Leran, all within easy driving distance. Summer sees a host of social events in the village including, the May carnival, the July village fete and the August voisinade where neighbours get together, feast and dance the night away. Other surrounding villages offer similar attractions throughout the summer. Further afield the area offers a host of leisure activities including swimming, sailing, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, horse riding and white water rafting. You are in excellent walking country and the long distance footpath, once the route of the railway passes through the village and you are not far away from the 240 kilometre long Cathar way. The Medieval towns of Mirepoix with its colonnades and cathederal (20 mins) and Chalabre (5 mins) with its Grand Chateau - open in summer for a host of activities for children and adults. The mysterious village of Rennes-le-Chateau (think the Da Vinci Code) and the little spa town of Rennes - les - Bains with its natural hot spring waters are"musts" to visit. Last but by no means least the ruined chateaux of the Cathars (a Medieval persecuted religious sect) perched on steep mountain tops will transport you back to another age - good walking boots are essential. After all this you can return to your apartment, relax with a glass of the local wine and listen to the tinkle of the sheep bells as the herds head for home off their hillside pastures
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a friends wedding in nearby Chalabre, gorgeous apartment very nicely furnished and very comfortable. We couldn't have asked for a better host in Mike, on hand when needed and very kind in giving us a lift back to Chalabre post wedding to collect our car. The nearby lake Lac de Montbel is picturesque, wish we'd bought our swimming gear! Would love to return sometime, thank you!

  • Le Balcon is a fabulous, spacious and comfortable apartment in a small, quiet and picturesque village. Mike was a very friendly host, giving us a good welcome , tips and suggestions for local area and restaurants. The apartment is a great base for exploring the Cathare castles, the forested hills and beautiful swimming lake nearby... and it's wonderful just to sit on the large balcony and relax! I definitely recommend highly. Thank you Mike.

This beautiful little log cabin is surrounded by forests and pastures. If you are looking for a quiet place in the countryside, this is where you should come!
This eco-friendly construction was built following traditional scandinavian and east-european designs. It is situated on a 7000 sq. m fenced plot of land in a quiet valley. This is the perfect place to rest and relax in.
  • A beautiful, enchanting quiet place in the middle of the forests. This place is magical, we truly recommend it to disconnect from the stressed and noisy life in the city!!!

Sainte Colombe is a sleepy village situated in the "Plantaurel", rolling foot hills of the Pyrenees. The area is of great natural beauty and historical interest. Just a few kilometres from the lake of Montbel where one can swim, cycle, sail, canoe or go for walks with breathtaking views of the chain of the Pyrenees on the horizon.
We welcome you into our family home. The bedrooms are simply decorated, using lime based paints with natural pigments the decor is plain with a hint of French vintage styling. This contrasts with the rest of our family home which is a bit more "busy" and not just the decor! The bedrooms are on the ground floor off the garden living room with a separate entrance, a separate bathroom for guests on the first floor.
We live on the outskirts of a village set in the rolling foothills of the Pyrenees near the lake of Montbel. Close by are the historic market town of Mirepoix, the Cathar castles of Puivert and Montsegur and many places of outstanding natural beauty. And we're two minutes from the "voie verte" which runs from Montsegur to the Canal de Midi.

We are Laury & Joe (French & American couple). We are restoring this beautiful house situated in the center of a charming, traditional French village. Nearby are spectacular views of the Pyrenees, trails for biking, walking & hiking, a lake for swimming, sailing or canoeing. An equestrian center is minutes away as well as countless historical castles and museums, surrounded by the beautiful wine country of the Languedoc. Come enjoy this natural beauty of the South of France in our home.
Our property - in this beautiful part of Cathar country - is actually 2 houses with their own shared outdoor terrace, perfect for "al fresco dining". The part we live in is a Maison de Maitre (referred to as Number 10) where you will NOT be staying, but you may walk through it to get in to the Bridge House where you will stay. We have also provided a separate private entrance to the Bridge House from the small alley at the rear. Joe and Laury are currently still renovating Number 10 which provides the main entrance to both houses and faces the main market square of Chalabre. We have a cat and a dog, so cannot host guests with pet allergies as both come and go throughout the main spaces. One takes the main staircase through Number 10 to access the next house which is where you will stay. We call this one the Bridge House because there is a covered bridge which crosses over a small inner court yard which separates the two houses. This is a 14th century house which has just been renovated. Attached to that is actually the former part ruin of yet another house with its original stone facade still standing so it serves as a private terrace, shared by you and by us at Number 10. There is a shared staircase to access the Bridge House. Once inside it has two levels. There is no lift/elevator. In the Bridge House there is a wonderful, fully equipped kitchen with enough space to eat-in for 4-5 people and a big living room area upstairs with a table that can seat up to 10 if both table leaves are used. There are two double bedrooms also upstairs with a spiral staircase to a small open mezzanine which has a single mattress (open to the living room below - so not suitable for someone needing to go to sleep early). There is another loft (with no banister) on the other side with a single bed, accessed by a very steep ladder. Recommended only for a single person - and only those who are old enough and responsible enough to be aware not to fall off the unprotected ledge of the loft. There is a shared bathroom with a shower in the upstairs area, which can be used by any sleeping in the two bedrooms or mezzanine. Downstairs, the Romantic bedroom is off the kitchen and connects to the Romantic bathroom which has a luxurious claw foot tub with instant hot water. This is a large en-suite room. There is an additional 3rd bathroom with shower by the entrance to the Bridge house which can also be used (its use is however to be shared with anyone staying in the main house). Because some areas of the terrace are still under renovation the property is not suitable for small children unless parents can supervise non-stop.
Traversing Chalabre is a Voie Verte (an old railway line converted for hiking/biking/horseback riding) which stretches from Mirepoix to Lavelanet. We are one of the rest points on the St Jacques de Compostelle trail. Lake Montbel is nearby with its closest access point only 4 km from us (10 minutes by car, 20 minutes by bike and 40 minutes walking) and offers swimming, canoeing and sailing. Another great swimming hole just 7 km away is a smaller lake overlooked by the Cathar Castle of Puivert. The Languedoc wine region stretches west towards the Mediterranean and is a must for wine lovers. For skiing in the winter and biking in the summer, the Pyrenees are within an hour's drive with a stunning view from Chalabre. Andorra is only 90 minutes away by car. Here in Chalabre one can find biking tours, wine tours, and just outside town there is an equestrian centre. Touring the area by car one travels through charming little villages with festivals, fairs, markets, museums, car boot sales, historical castles and chateaux - Cathar or otherwise. Closest towns: Mirepoix to the north west, Limoux to the east, Lavelanet and Foix to the south west. See the links listed above for more details. Chalabre has a bakery (closed on Wednesdays all day in winter and half-day in summer), two butchers-charcuteries (closed on Mondays), three very small grocery stores, one bureau-tabac/newstand store, two cafes (both of which serve tasty lunchtime meals), one hotel with a good restaurant, an excellent pharmacy where one can also buy luxury toiletries, a flower shop and a hairdressing salon.
  • We loved our stay at Laury and Joe's in Chalabre - it's a beautifully restored and decorated house right in the middle of the town, with a well-stocked kitchen, free standing bath and a terrace, which all help to make it feel a home away from home. Laury was a really welcoming host; interested in us, helpful and accommodating but also respectful of our privacy. We were supposed to be traveling with a toddler and it's not the most child-friendly house as there are quite a few steps and parts of the renovation are ongoing. Otherwise, it's a perfect place to stay as a couple or with friends.

    Abigail2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week here and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful with a peaceful ambience and we felt very much at home. The kitchen was our favourite part of the house-it's a great space for cooking and socialising. There is also a wonderful outdoor terrace with a barbecue. Chalabre is a lovely village and is a great location to get into the surrounding hills and countryside. We would certainly recommend the house as a place to stay and to explore this beautiful part of France.

  • I left Paris for a short stay at Yobaba Lounge and every moment there was worth the time away from what might have otherwise been 10 lovely days in Paris. I wanted for nothing at Yobaba Lounge. Gertrud's capacity to welcome & make you feel at home is unparalleled. Her cooking is so amazing it elicits praise at every meal (and I actually found myself missing her food the minute I left). The house itself folds you into a relaxing, deep, nurturing embrace, where you can rest, wander, meditate, do yoga, and enjoy solitude and quiet or connection with others. Naela's talents and companionship at Yobaba are a great bonus in this already beautiful and powerful atmosphere. Although I was there for a self-guided rather than group retreat, I always felt supported and loved Gertrud's yoga class and guidance, which she led at invitation and never with any requirement. Gertrud is among the best yoga teachers I've ever had over decades of practicing. I highly recommend a stay at Yobaba and feel grateful for a beautiful visit there.

  • I stayed at Gertrud's beautiful house with my partner for just three nights. During that time, we fell in love with the stunning architure of her house which is gradually being sympathetically restored by Gertrude. Her vast, but carefully curated treasures from around the world, are dotted around the house and each item has an interesting story. We stayed in a grand and uncluttered suite with a large bathroom to ourselves. We had a free-standing bath and underfloor heating. The windows overlook the large, peaceful garden which has a grass labyrinth, an orangery and many quiet corners where one may sit and reflect. The church tower can be seen from the garden and is stunning at night when it is lit up. We were lucky enough to sample the results of Gertrud's legendary culinary skills when we had breakfast with her each day. She made us fermented chickpea pancakes and the best spelt bread I have ever eaten. In return, we taught her the secret of English roast potatoes! Gertrud has formalised Embodied Meditation and teaches this practice and yoga with passion to retreatants every morning in her yoga shala (studio). Silence is observed until breakfast at 10am which we found a useful focus for self-reflection. We attended the sessions each day and, even in such a short time, we both found beneficial changes occurring and are inspired to continue the practice when we return home. Gertrud truly is the divine feminine and a force of nature. We were fortunate enough to have her accompany us to a beautiful gorge one day (Gorge Garramous?) and spend some time with her. We found her to be very open, genuine and down-to-earth at the same time as being peaceful and spiritual. The end of our holiday came much too quickly and we would both love to return again. A life-changing experience.

W live in an idyllic area on the borders of the Ariege and Aude, surrounded by hills, fields and rivers. It is very rural here, with plenty of walking from Gaillardet, VT tracks very near and lots to see culturally in the way of Cathar Castles. There are a number of pretty towns near by such as Mirepoix and Foix. Every day there is a typical French market somewhere in the vicinity. Sporting venues include skiing, lake swimming, white water rafting, climbing and many other places for sporty people. There are plenty of vineyards a little further away to be explored. Our own grounds are extensive with beautiful flowers and trees, a large pool set in lawns, with decking and pergola for relaxing. Beautiful views from the property and plenty of wildlife to observe. • This is a gorgeous little gite in a rural village set within beautiful countryside. Amenities such as supermarkets and the boulangerie are within easy reach by car. The space itself is exactly as shown on the pictures, spacious kitchen/diner with open fireplace, large bedroom with super comfortable bed, easy chairs and desk, and large modern bathroom with separate WC. We received a warm and friendly welcome from Line and Alain and check in was simple, even though our french was very limited. We really appreciated the little touches by Line and Alain which made our stay more comfortable; they were generous hosts. All in all, this gite is an absolute steal for the price if you want a cosy, well equipped space in the area. It was a shame my french wasn't better as Line and Alain were lovely people who I would like to have chatted with more!

  • Line and Alain were wonderful hosts -- very friendly and welcoming, and very understanding when our arrival time was delayed by several hours due to traffic. They had many suggestions for things to do and see in the immediate area and further afield, which we really appreciated. The apartment was spacious, in a cute hamlet very close to a village with amenities -- we enjoyed walking into town along the river to buy our bread and daily groceries, and had fun getting to experience the weekly produce market. This location was great for exploring things near and far, all over the Pyrenees! Same days we had to drive quite a bit, but those mountain roads sure are fun, and it was nice to come "home" at the end of a long day of exploration to Line and Alain's lovely gite.

The cottage has been renovated simply to create light airy rooms with character. The open plan living/ dining/kitchen is on the ground floor with a door that leads out onto a south facing sun drenched decked area. There are 2 bedrooms and shower room upstairs.
The cottage is decorated in light colours. All the rooms are south facing with views of the Pyrenees. The kitchen is small but well equipped with a gas cooker, fridge, washing machine, toaster, kettle, microwave, cutlery, crockery and utensils. The dinning area has a drop leaf table that can seat 4. In front of the fire place with a wood burning stove, there is a sofa. The outside decked area has a large wooden bench where you can pile cushions, sit comfortably and soak up the view of the French Pyrenees while sipping a glass of wine.
Lesparrou is a quiet very French village. The local people are friendly and helpful. There is a post office just opposite that sells bread every morning from 9am. There are many activities in the local area, from lake swimming to an acro branch. Also beautiful chateaux and quaint markets. During July and August several of the local villages hold night markets where you can buy a wide variety of food in a typical Ariege setting and eat alfresco in the village on long tables laid out in the village.
  • We had a lovely stay in Leparrou. Louise's house is very clean, comfortable and cozy. She was very accommodating with our late arrival. Her communicatio was great and everything we needed to know was covered. The area itself is gorgeous and we had a fantastic day at a wedding in Chateau de Quielle. Highly recommend for comfortable practical house. Thanks

  • The cottage appears small when you first enter but it has all the basics and some really good sized bedrooms with comfortable mattresses. I was staying here whilst working and it provided me with a great base (with superb views of the local mountains). David was really helpful and there was a general feeling of bonhomie among owners and people in the other cottages. Put it this way, I am going back soon to stay in the small barn and David has been really great about accommodating us at very short notice.

    Lee2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • The flat had everything we needed, and the owners were more than helpful and assisted us with suggestions for hiking tours and maps. Wonderful stay, will come back!

  • We have been already in Lesparrou hosted by Louise and Dave and it is always a more than feeling at home. The cottage is silence, clean and charming. In four we have been very well. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is all what is needed. Bathroom with a large shower. The rooms are shining and comfortable with a nice view on the village and on the mountains. A sunny and nice space outside in front of the main door. Super recommended!

  • I can't speak highly enough of our too brief a stay at Rosa's Place. The room was beautifully presented in typical farmhouse style. A big comfy bed with nice linen and a single bed. The room was spacious and decorated with nice personal touches. Very much a family set up and we were made to feel very welcome. The night we stayed we were invited to play boules with the locals. So much fun!!! Thank you Rosa et Richard for a memorable stay.

  • We had the honor to be their very first guest and their hospitality really exceeded our expectations! They room was very clean, spacious, the beds sleep well and the private bathroom was also clean. We stayed with three people for two nights. At night the village is invaded by a total silence. In the morning Rosa surprised us with a French breakfast: fresh baguette, home made fruit salad, chocolate breads and coffee. It felt like a Bed & Breakfast. In the afternoon we had to go to the pharmacy in a town nearby and Richard insisted on bringing us. I would really recommend Rosa and Richard to any traveler(s) that is/are looking for a room for a couple of nights. With a bit of luck, there will be a village party and they'll ask you to join them for a traditional French diner, as they asked us.

The open plan barn is spacious with views of the Pyrenees from the large south facing french windows on the first floor. It has a mezzanine bedroom with a double bed and 2 day beds or futon in a separate area. The kitchen is simple yet well equipped.
The barn has been converted with light and space in mind. The living space is on the first floor with far reaching views to the Pyrenees. There are 2 sets of french windows, with safety rails which let in lots of sun and light. The original barn doors are used as shutters to keep the well insulated space cool in summer and warm in winter. There is a double bed on a mezzanine reached by spiral stair case, this area can be divided by curtains if you wish. There is a single day bed under the mezzanine in an area which can also be divided by curtains. There are shelves and a large window in this sleeping space. The kitchen is simple yet well equipped with a sink, a small oven, microwave, kettle, 2 electric rings, fridge, cutlery, crockery, pans and cooking utensils. The shower room is on the ground floor and has a wooden floor, wc, shower and wash basin. Again small and simple but clean and bright. The ground floor space has large by folding wooden doors with the shower room at the rear. There is plenty of space for bikes , boots and skis. Comfy camping chairs are provided so you can sit outside and enjoy the sun.
Lesparrou is a very quiet typical french village. The local people are very friendly and helpful if you are in need. There is a postoffice just opposite which sells bread every morning from 0900. You can walk or bike along the river in both directions to Belesta 3.5 km and Bastide sur L'Hers at 2 km. Both these villages have bars with wifi, restaurants, butchers, bakers and a night market on a Thursday.
  • We spent four nights in this cozy barn and we loved it! Louise and her husband gave us a warm welcome and helped us organizing our hiking trip in the mountains for which the place is located perfectly. We highly recommend this place for everyone who wants to explore the mountains and nature in the area! Thanks Louise and family!

  • Tucked away up against the French Pyrenees in the beautiful Pays du Cathar, is the quiet little village of Lesparrou. It is just off the beaten track (the D117) but in the centre of everything. Three tired travellers enjoyed a solitary night in Louise's beautiful barn conversion at the back of the village, the standard of which would give the more sophisticated property developers in North London much to think about. We loved the spiral staircase up to the mezzanine and the views out over the mountains were amazing, a fabulous sight to see before you tucked yourself in at night. We will be back.

  • Louise was a lovely host and the cottage ( we stayed in the cottage rather than the barn conversion) was beautiful and had everything we required. The view from the bedroom was amazing. We really enjoyed our time here and felt very comfortable and looked after. Thank you!

  • Louise, Dave and Jake are a lovely family. They were highly communicative and accommodating of our schedule. Their converted barn home is a dream, nestled in a gorgeous, verdant valley. We had arrived late in the day by motorbike and had been rained on, and they set us up right away with hot showers and heaters to dry our clothes. The space is beautiful and has all that one needs for a comfortable stay. We strongly recommend this space to anyone looking for cozy escape.

  • Louise and Dave are lovely hosts who made us feel very welcome. The barn is really well converted and was lovely and warm when we arrived. The beds were comfy and the shower was really good. Everything we needed was provided and they were happy for us to have a really late check-out. Great value. Highly recommended.

  • Well, it is a unique place, with great charm and quietness. Nothing was missing, everything was perfect and more than expected and if you love to stay in the nature this home is in a perfect location. The home is a great. It is a combination of simplicity, pragmatism and elegance. We received a super kind welcome, a lot of great tips to discover all the attractions around and we felt home. Thank you a lot guys we will see us again!

  • Louise and Simon couldn't have been more nice and helpful. The barn conversion is charming with a beautiful spiral staircase going up to the bedroom. Our stay was really brief, and we weren't really prepared for a gite stay, so the loo roll, tea and milk were very much appreciated!

Our homely house is quirky and original with many great features for enjoying the fabulous weather and mountain views of this special corner of France. We are nestled in a valley just off the beaten track but in the centre of everything from chateaus to adventure rope courses.
Our beautiful old village house has been renovated with light and space in mind. The down stairs open plan kitchen/diner/living room has easy access to a gorgeous courtyard which in the summer is sunny in the mornings and is cool and shady by lunch time for alfresco eating all day. The courtyard has wide comfy benches, a hammock and cushions in a cosy corner for chatting, reading and drinking. The pool terrace is in all day sun all year and has a large decked and pebbled stone area leading to it at the top of the garden. In the winter (when the pool is taken down) this is a fabulous large decked area which enjoys all day sun. The wood burning stove heats the whole of the house in the winter for a cosy warm winter retreat. If you stay in the winter your logs are included. We also provide a paraffin heater and there is an electric towel rail in the bath room. At the top of the garden with the best mountain views is a large terrace with wooden benches and tree platform from which to enjoy the breath taking Pyrenees.
Lesparrou is a quiet peaceful village. Our neighbours are friendly and respectful always happy to help if needed.
  • Nice cosy cottage in a tiny small village. Very quiet and very well organized with private pool, Very clean house, Great easygoing host too... Thank you!

  • Dear Louise, David & Jake, Thank You for a wonderful vacation in your beautiful house - very authentic and spacious - just perfect for our big family. We loved the privacy of the small back yard and the kids of course loved the pool. David and Jake was very helpful during our entire stay - told us what was happening in the area, helped us make reservations (unfortunately we don't speak french) and the pool was cleaned thoroughly every night. Louise was working away from home during our stay, but David and Jake were both very welcoming and made us feel at home. We can only give them and their house our best recommendations and would definitely like to come back one day. Kind regards, Lasse + family

Our elegant and comfortable 4 bedroom house is great place for families and friends to relax. Enjoy BBQs in the walled garden, drinks at the local cafe, or visit the nearby lakes and markets and sample all the goodies that the Aude can offer.
Maison du Bois is a comfortable, attractive big house with a private walled garden, conveniently placed in the centre of a lovely village with all amenities. There are four bedrooms, three doubles (of which one is one a four poster) and a single. The house is a very sociable space with a huge kitchen and garden room area - a delightful space at any time of the year.
The village has all the ingredients for a great holiday. There are two cafes, two stores, a restaurant, a bank and a pharmacy. There is also a fantastic boulangerie with delicious patisseries and fresh bread and croissants baked every day (including Christmas Day!) The local stores have fresh meat and vegetables and the little market on the weekend sells all sorts of local produce, from olives and cheese to shopping bags and shoes. During July and August, take a trip to the night markets in Puivert and Leran. Puivert also has a lake suitable for swimming, with a cafe on site. In the winter there are various ski resorts, the closest being 30 minutes away.
  • Margaret's house is charming, clean, comfortable and was perfect for our family of 7. The listing is spot on in terms of what you get when you arrive. The house is conveniently located to a shops and cafe's and Margaret was very responsive to our needs. We highly recommend staying here!

  • Our recent Family Reunion in France was a complete success largely due to the wonderfully spacious and comfortable accommodation provided at Margaret & Eddie’s lovely house in Chalabre. Margaret was easy to contact and she also has a local couple who live five minutes away to help with any queries. We made use of all the facilities, including the huge well equipped kitchen and the outdoor BBQ. The main bedroom has one of the largest beds we have ever seen and the views of the Pyrenees from the top floor is stunning. Chalabre itself is a charming large village set in rolling countryside and has a bank, grocers, tabac, bakers, two cafes and a pizzeria. The Hotel Du France run by Marielle and Didier serves excellent food with a daily lunch menu for 14 euros. We are keen cyclists and the area is excellent for walking and cycling with beautiful lakes – swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing – nearby at Lake Montbel. The delightful town of Mirepoix is close by, and further afield, Carcassonne, a must to visit. All in all a wonderful trip. Thank you Margaret and Eddie for the use of your lovely home. We hope to visit again in the near future.

  • Thank you for the great stay at your beautiful home. The accommodation was fabulous with tons of space and great kitchen. The children especially loved the garden space and we all greatly enjoyed the bbq. Fantastic village with excellent boulangerie and grocery store. Many thanks for a memorable stay and your helpful suggestions and responses to all our queries.

  • We had a fabulous weekend in Chalabre and celebrated our birthdays in style. Blanquette flowed! The house is amazing and very beautiful. The area was great for walking, eating and relaxing with plenty of suggestions for good restaurants from Margaret's guide book. She was very easy to contact for arranging keys and local places to visit. Can't wait to visit again. Great place.

    Kate2015-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • We've had a great week in this beautiful house, perfectly located in the pretty village Chalabre. There's a lot of nice things to in the area, and the sea is only two hours drive away (along a fantastic road). We also recommend taking the opportunity to go rafting! Unfortunately the wifi didn't work during our stay, even though Margaret immediately tried to fix it. We were eight persons in the house and it was plenty of space for us. The garden is quite small, but nice and there's a good grill for BBQ in the evenings. You can find the shops you need within walking distance; bakery, butcher, grocery store and more. We highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to explore the Pyrenees and to have an active holiday with or without children.
