  • The cottage was amazing, really good location; quiet and relaxing village but close enough to neighbouring towns such as Hemsley and Pickering. The site was spot on and very helpful staff if you needed them. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Property was good clean great location but in winter you would need a 4 x 4 to drive to get there.... not a mini as i have.

  • Well maintained cottage on a pleasant caravan park. Local area offers the best English countryside you'll ever find

    Gareth2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy, clean and well equipped, perfectly located for exploring the moors, and just a couple of minutes walk to 2 pubs offering good food.

    Keith2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is fantastic. We travelled as a family of 3 (baby only 3 months) and found everything we needed at the place and more; the kitchen and all other amenities were excellent and well equipped. It was big enough that we could have had another 2 adults with us comfortably. Being able to have breakfast in the sunny courtyard - including fresh baked pastries made to order from the site shop - was a lovely way to start our days. The location is perfect for exploring - we spent a day in Whitby and another on the steam train from Pickering - both only a short drive away. We will be returning again 😊

    Dennis2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, comfortable accommodation at a sensible price. A shop on the site, and pubs serving food within easy walking distance. NB no public transport links.

Even better than it looks in the photographs. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. We’re already looking forward to returning later in the year.

  • Beautiful, sparkling clean cottage in the middle of a charming village. The cottage is very light, spacious, newly decorated, warm and fully stocked with enough kitchen equipment to cook three course meals.

  • Mill Flat is a perfect little retreat in such a beautiful location. From our first enquiry Jen has accommodated our every need. On entering Mill Flat, there is a great place to leave muddy boots and coats. Upstairs opens up into a beautiful open-plan kitchen, dining and living room with gorgeous furniture, fixtures and fittings and lovely sky lights that open up to the sound of the river passing by. The bedrooms and bathroom lead off from a long hallway. The beds, bedding and colour schemes are beautiful and loved the gorgeous shower in the lovely bathroom. Thank you Jen for letting us stay in your wonderful place in Rosedale Abbey! We will be back! X

  • Lovely, clean accommodation on a working farm. My sister and I went with the intention to explore with the dog and Susan offered numerous suggestions which we were most grateful for. Susan cooked up a lovely breakfast for us each morning and there was also a local pub just a stone throw away! Susan and her husband were very welcoming and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for more! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

  • Lovely remote location in beautiful valley and not far from some great spots including the Coast. Spacious rooms and equipped with everything you need, to get away from it all for a few days.

  • Great ‘get away from it all’ location’. Amazing views, walks from the doorstep and good access to exploring the North Yorkshire moors. House is very clean and meets the needs for a large group.

    Susan2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely, quirky, spacious house set in a beautiful valley with stunning views. There are walks right from the door. There are resident barn owls - in the barn funnily enough! - which we saw every evening.

    Colin2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Medds Farm House is a beautiful house in stunning location, really showing off the very best of the North York Moors - if you're looking for a place in the middle of nowhere, this really is it! Chrissy was a brilliant host, helping with my (many!) queries prior to our visit and helping u out during our stay when we had a few questions. The house itself is extremely comfortable and ideal for a large family/group visit. I cannot recommend it enough and would definitely return.

    Chris2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding location, spectacular views and glorious wildlife and walking. Our party included 5 children aged 4-10 we all loved the house and garden. There was plenty of local trips for all ages including biking, climbing, beaches and great food. Chrissy is a great host. This would also suit anyone who loves walking with a pub located within convenient distance of every trail.

    Olivia2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Medds farm is set in a beautiful rural location lots of fresh air and country views, perfect for relaxing in the summer sun. Chrissy is a lovely host, made us feel welcome and answered any questions, she also gave suggestions for walks and where to go to catch the best sunsets. The house had everything we needed for our family stay and we enjoyed local strolls, an informative visit to the farm and watching the nearby wildlife from the garden. It’s not too far to visit the coast either and eat some tasty fish and chips, we’d recommend ‘the magpie cafe’. The road to the house is a small track so be mindful of your suspension and exhaust when driving to the house! Don’t forget to bring your own disposable or bucket BBQ if you like cooking outside.

    Hannah2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely idyllic spot down the end of a track at the end of a valley with no roads anywhere to be seen. Fantastic views and nothing but the sound of birds and other wildlife. Whitby, Robins Hood Bay, Pickering and Flamingo World all easy to get to, as well as great local pubs and walks. Accomodation was perfect for two sets of parents with toddlers but would work just as well with adults/older kids. Check-in was easy and Chrissy was on-hand when needed and prompt to respond. Would highly recommend! Don't be put off by lack of reviews, they're new to Airbnb but have existed as a rental place for a while and have a load of excellent reviews elsewhere. We'll be back!

  • Andrew and Julie were fantastic hosts and the accommodation was excellent! We had everything we needed to stay warm and enjoy our stay in the area. Our extended family has been staying in the area for new year for over 20 years and this is the first time we’ve made use of a cottage at Beck House as we were outgrowing our usual haunt. We’ve just booked the entire family in to multiple cottages next year as we’ve been so happy with the hospitality and facilities.

  • This place is a treasure not to be missed. The owners are lovely and there are thoughtful touches everywhere. If you like the peace of the countryside and the busyness of the seaside this is the place for you. The owners can tell you where the best places to go for hidden waterfalls, steam train rides, fossil hunting etc. We arrived stressed and tired, but went home revived and peaceful thanks to this lovely caravan and it’s owners. It is one of the better Airbnb’s that I have been to and I highly recommend it, so much so that I am returning again in a few days!

  • If you're after a secluded spot with one of the best views any airbnb has to offer then this is for you. Add to this great value for money, respectful hosts and lots of thoughtful touches and you've arrived. Me and my daughters stayed here to as a central point to explore the east coast fossil scene. The static caravan has everything you need for a self catering break and the nearest town and various takeaways are just 7 miles away at Pickering.

Col also shared with us interesting places to visit. They came out to be very enjoyable for us. They also let us play with their pats and animals too. • Beautiful cottages on this lovely farm. The place was comfortable and clean. Plenty of countryside around, forest and river near by as well as moorland. Owners live on site, they are both very welcoming and helpful when asked for assistance. This place is dog friendly too. From this area we did day trips to Whitby, York and Scarborough. Beautiful towns to visit with plenty of history and lovely seaside places to enjoy. Also only 20 minutes from Flamingo Land if you want to take kids there. It was a very enjoyable week in this peaceful location whilst at the same time being within travelling distance from loads of interesting places. The pricing was also very reasonable.

forestviewcropton.com is set deep into the beautiful, tranquil forests of Sutherland, North Yorkshire, nestles Forest View Cropton - a handcrafted, bespoke-furnished woodland retreat for those with discerning taste looking for a secluded, luxury break far from the ordinary. You will find yourself quickly immersed in the wilds and wonders of nature: deer, pheasants, hares, badgers, owls, stoats, even a mating pair of beavers.
You might be surprised to learn that the North York Moors is one of the most wooded of England's National Parks. Woodland and forest covers about 22 percent of the National Park – that’s over 300 square kilometers of trees – so it’s of huge importance. Woodland also clothes many of the valley sides, giving the landscape a distinctive character. In the native woodlands, oak, ash, birch and rowan thrive, while shrubs such as hazel and hawthorn provide the understorey. Large broadleaf woods are rare but significant woods are still found in the lower parts of some valleys such as the Esk, or at Roxby near Staithes and Mulgrave Woods near Sandsend. But broadleaved or mixed woodland only accounts for around a third of the woodland in the North York Moors. Sutherland Cottage Lodge is the brainchild and passion/design project of husband-and-wife team Clive and Tracy Ainley, with their young Daughter Evie. With backgrounds in IT, property development and hospitality, the family launched their ambition to create “a woodland escape and haven of tranquility” in the substantial grounds of their own home; to share their own deep love of nature and a landscape that constantly varies and excites: “Forest View Cropton is our true labor of love. We are blessed to live where we do, with our extended woodland family of wild and domestic animals. We wanted, above everything, to create a special, unique place of tranquility for those who not only appreciate the good and aesthetic things in life but, first and foremost, the natural world. The lodge is our realization of a dream. We hope it is for you too. We know your pets are part of the family, with this in mind dogs are welcome. Up to 4 dogs depending on size and agreement in place before hand. There's an additional cost of £15 per dog per day.
As you approach the winding drive into Sutherland Forest towards the Lodge, you will find yourself quickly immersed in the wilds and wonders of nature: deer, pheasants, hares, badgers, owls, stoats, even a mating pair of beavers - and many other animal species - create a unique sound and visual landscape to enhance your stay. Even a roaming peahen has bred, nested and made Forest View Cropton grounds her forever home! Children will be enthralled and amused by the extended family of scratching hens, comical pygmy goats, by Trevor the Pony and Bruce, the family’s ebullient, handsome, people-loving wolf dog, who create so much of the character of the land outside your door.

This is a home from home - just 1 mile outside of Rosedale Abbey with stunning views across the valley and within easy reach of the north Yorkshire coast. Rosedale Abbey is one of the prettiest villages in the centre of the North York Moors National Park. The village sports 3 family friendly inns, a village shop, 2 tea rooms and the internationally renowned Gillies Jones glass making workshop. It also provides a 9-hole golf course and hot tub/sauna at The Orange Tree Relaxation Centre.
Remote enough to see the stars at night with hardly any light pollution but also within walking distance of the lovely village of Rosedale Abbey with it's excellent pubs, cafes and useful shop. The house has a large kitchen diner with a wood burning stove which is a fantastic sociable area and a separate "formal" lounge where you can also enjoy a wood burning stove.
The North York Moors is an area of outstanding beauty with a host of things to do for both young and old, and it's all right on your doorstep. The coast is approx 35 minutes away (Whitby, Robin Hoods bay). The North Yorkshire Moors steam railway runs from Pickering to Whitby and stops at nearby Grosmont. The Orange Tree spa is a mile down the road if you fancy some relaxation therapy or even closer to home is the Sycamores spa and beauty.
  • My family and I stayed at the cottage over the New Year period. The house is simply perfect. It’s fully of character and charm. It was very clean, well equipped and only 1 mile from the village of Rosedale. The views from the cottage are beautiful. Would recommend the cottage as a place to stay and I am sure we will return in the future.

    Natalie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is immaculate throughout, the kitchen is well stocked, huge and it was a real pleasure to cook for so many people there. The rooms are big, clean and really tastefully decorated. So much space in all of the shared spaces, i.e. the dining room and sitting room. We had a great walk on the Saturday, despite the weather. We ended up in the pub on the Castleton Road in Rosedale Abbey, who do a CAMRA discount per pint: the beer was good. I contacted David and partner, to see if there were local eggs available, there is a place on the approach to Low Bell End if you do want to buy local eggs. All in all, the cottage was the perfect space for our group (boardgames/ramblers). Thanks!

  • We had a lovely week in the cottage. Glyn was really helpful and answered any questions we had promptly. The village is beautiful and the view from the cottage of the village green is fantastic. My 2 year old daughter particularly enjoyed the trampoline in the garden, paddling in the beck that runs through the village and watching the sheep on the green.

  • The Granary is on an absolutely beautiful property. Our next door neighbors were beautiful, free range chickens. Next to them were two gorgeous horses and a sweet goat. Two dogs are also on the property and greeted us each time we came and left the house. The owners are also on site, so kind and friendly. We felt very welcome in their fantastic house, which has a stunning conservatory and outdoor patio area. We will definitely stay there again when we travel to the Yorkshire countryside. The location is tricky to find since it is outside of town, so be sure to get specific directions from Andrew before you set out. You'll love it there!

An en-suite bedroom, lounge and patio in a family home. Guests have exclusive use of the Music Room (lounge) during their stay, except when the piano is needed for our children's weekly lessons.
The North York Moors National Park is a brilliant place to walk, cycle or explore by car. Less than 5 minutes walk from April Cottage are The Blacksmiths Arms and The Grange Country House Hotel, both of which serve excellent lunches and evening meals, so you can choose to enjoy your evening without the need to drive. As well as being a great base for walks and drives in the Park, the village is also ideally located for visiting such local attractions as the North York Moors Steam Railway, Ryedale Folk Museum, Castle Howard and 'Heartbeat Country'. Close by are the pretty market towns of Helmsley and Pickering, with their ancient monuments and stately homes. The City of York , Whitby and Scarborough are all less than an hour's drive away.

  • Really grateful for having the opportunity to share Heather and Greg’s beautiful home. Everything you need and more. Breakfast choices were fabulous. Lovely little touches like fresh flowers and goodies on the tea and coffee making tray. Beautifully clean and spacious. Great location for exploring. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.

    Christine2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely house in a stunning North Yorkshire village, with a warm welcome from the host. We had cycled 30 miles or so up hill and down dale so the tea on arrival plus a very comfortable bedroom and sitting room were just what we needed. Greg made room for our bikes in the garage and Heather had booked us a table at the local pub for dinner, which was a very short walk away. We were well fed and slept soundly! What a pity we couldn't stay for longer. Highly recommended.

    Philippa2019-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Heather's. We went for some peace and tranquility but also there was so much to do around the area that we were kept really busy. The house was great. We were blown away by the bird song the moment we opened the car door! We felt really out in the countryside. It was lovely to sit in the garden or have the doors to the balcony open and listen to nature (with a glass of wine of course)! The village is stunning, you can literally walk up the hill and you are in the Moors. We had three days to explore the area. We started in the village - the church has an interesting crypt underneath and is conveniently next to the pub :-) The pub was very friendly and they managed to squeeze us in for a meal last minute although it was very busy - the Yorkshire puddings were epic! There are a few little walks around the neighbouring villages through the countryside. We did a short 4 mile round trip, I would highly recommend it. Greg gave us a map to follow so we didn't get lost. He also gave us some great advice of a scenic drive to the coast. Each day we started with the most amazing breakfast provided by Greg - cooked, continental, cereal, and/or fruit. Perfect start to the day. On our final day we went to Go Ape in Dalby Forest. Fantastic end to our trip. The forest was outstanding and huge, worth a visit even if you're not up for Go Ape.

    Samantha2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home with a lovely garden alive with birds. The guest rooms are very spacious and extremely clean. Our breakfast choices were excellent. Eggs laid by the resident chickens are a nice touch. The village is delightful and borders the moors with great walking.

    Amanda2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Heather’s home. The village and surrounding area were lovely and the room and private lounge were spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts, particularly the full english were exceptional. We’d highly recommend this property and hope to stay again ourselves

    Tom2019-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying with Heather in her lovely Yorkshire stone house. The village atmosphere was very welcoming, particularly at the pub when we arrived not knowing exactly where the house was due to the lack of phone or data provision in the village! Luckily Heather was well known and we were pointed in the right direction after a wonderful pub meal. The room is large with a comfortable bed, an excellent ensuite and TV. Downstairs we had use of a cosy sitting room with a log burner and a really comfortable sofa. Coffee and tea making facilities were also provided. Breakfast was great with an excellent full English cooked breakfast available if desired. Fresh bread, fruit, yoghurt and croissants rounded off the perfect start to the day. The village is close to Castle Howard and the National Trust Nunnington Hall, both of which we visited during our stay. Definitely a place we will return to....and is highly recommended.
