  • Great people and great service. Tommy, Kelly and Brian were absolutely great and a lot of fun. Paul made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond. The food and pub were amazing and fun. The castle is a must do.

  • Paul was an awesome host!! My husband and best friend were traveling from Dingle to Dublin and needed to stop for the night , and wasn’t able to book until late but Paul welcomed us with open arms and amazing fresh cheesecake!! The rooms are very big, and across the street from some very fun pubs with live music! The center was great because of a live band playing traditional music, and a club above it for those who want to dance! I would definitely stay her again!

  • This place was SO MUCH fun! Kerry really made us feel special during our night in Roscrea! Her cheesecake was exceptionally delicious and the home cooked meal was great! Spending time with the folk of the Whitehouse that night was a blast and now we have lifelong friends! The inn is in the center of the quaint town and you can walk to everything! The rooms are clean and comfortable for a stay away from home! We would definitely visit Kerry and the Whitehouse Inn again!

  • Nice place to stay, with the restaurant on the other side of the street. Stylish Irish pub/restaurant. Cosy rooms

  • Great place and great hosts. Recommended.

  • We went to Roscrea to find out more about my great grandfather who died over 100 years ago. We were fortunate to have chosen to stay at the White House B &B and dine at the White House Restaurant as the facilities are welcoming and made us feel so much at home. Tommy, the bar manager, went the extra mile and made calls to locals to see what he could learn, then would share the info with us. Turns out my great grandad had owned a grocery store nearby. Joan, Amelia and the kitchen staff were very hospitable too. We would thoroughly recommend this B&B as Paul is a gracious host supported by wonderful staff. We were happy to be in a small Irish town, enjoy a slower pace and to feel so welcomed and taken care of. Hazel and Neal

  • Friendly staff. Excellent location. Value for money. Tasty breakfast.

    Jamie2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We haven’t had a friendlier host in any recent stay. We were welcomed by Paul and brought in for a great cup of tea and a nice relaxing time before heading up to our room. Our room included 2 twin/single beds and a double. The view was directly across the road from Roscrea castle—and I mean directly across! It was right down the road from Birr Castle which our little one enjoyed immensely. We also saw Clonmacnoise while in the area. We ended up having both dinner and breakfast at the White House before heading off to Dublin. Overall, we loved the location, the warm welcome, proximity to local sites, and the ease of check-in.

The Front garden is the Guests area, and is a secure area, except for the calves looking in over the wall ! The house is surrounded by working farms, so activities vary according to the Seasons. Raheensheara, is a farm in the South West of Laois. It is surrounded by rolling farmland nestled between the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the North ( designated a World Heritage Site in 1986), and the Cullahill Mountains in the South. the area was originally known as Upper Ossory. The little village of Killasmeestia is at the top of the Driveway. The Local area is nestled between Rathdowney and Borris-in-Ossory. This is a real slice of Rural Ireland, with Donaghmore Museum just minutes away, and the Heritage Towns of Roscrea and Abbeyleix a short drive away. The Rock of Dunamase, Emo Court, Damer House, Timoney Standing Stones, The Devils Bit, Cullahill Castle, Grantstown Lake, Abbeyleix Bog Walk, GlenBarrow Waterfall, and The Ridge Of Cappard Walkway are all waiting to be explored near by. The Nearest pub, is The Green Roads and is about 3km away. There are a number of traditional pubs within a 10 minute drive, in Borris-in-Ossory, Rathdowney, Errill, Knock and Coolrain. A little further gets you to Durrow, Roscrea, Portlaoise, and Templemore. There are a number of lovely restaurants catering from a cup of coffee, an Irish breakfast to fine Dining very nearby. I would suggest Rosie O'Gradys (Borris-in-Ossory,) Roisin's Loft (Ballaghmore), Fiacri House (Knock) The Willow Tree (Rathdowney), Bowe's (Durrow), Durrow Castle (Durrow), and The Cotttage (Loughmore) and many many more..... Come and discover this little bit of the Beautiful Hidden Ireland.
  • If you’re looking for an authentic Irish experience you’ve found the right place ! Elaine is the perfect host, she is very responsive and gives lots of attention to her guests. She also gave me advices on what to do for the rest of my trip.

  • Staying with Elaine was an absolute delight and I cannot even begin to describe how utterly fantastic and incredible both Elaine and her house are. Staying with Elaine was easily one of the best parts of my 10 days in Ireland. I decided to come to Ireland on a last minute whim after breaking up with my partner in Paris. I had no plans coming in to the country. After a few nights in Dublin I rented a car and decided I would drive around and see the country. The universe must have been on my side (for once) because somehow I ended up finding Elaine's listing and booking for a night (which then quickly got extended into 3 once I realised how amazing Elaine is and how well located her house is). I will forever remember and be grateful for the three days I spent with Elaine. She was exactly what I needed after a breakup. She fed me and took care of me. I never wanted to leave. Elaine offered me her incredible company and helped structure the rest of my trip. I look forward to coming back sometime in the future and staying with her again! I wholeheartedly recommend staying with Elaine for a few days. You won't regret it. You'll come a stranger and leave a friend.

  • I had such a great time with Elaine that I extended my stay.

  • If you love a touch of country lifestyle or you want to experience the real Ireland then this is for you. A perfect place to relax, read a book by the fire, take a short trip to nearby areas. The property, is located in the pristine rolling green hills of the Irish countryside. This gem of a host is going to treat you. She has an immense wealth of local knowledge and can give you a lot of helpful information to do with the area. Elaine is a warm and friendly host whose hospitality truly went above and beyond when I wasn’t able to procure a hire car over the Christmas period. She generously took me to several out of the way locations to explore and was able to give me some very local experiences unique to the area. Elaine is a very thoughtful host and prepares wonderful home cooked hearty fare. Upon arrival she had left some nice touches in the bedroom to make the stay more comfortable. She has some lovely pets so if you are an animal lover then you will love to meet the two cats and dogs that live on the property. I went in a stranger and truly feel I can out as a friend. Can’t recommend more and will definitely back!

Home made traditional fresh Wheaton bread, local fresh honey served on China and a super Freindly great boxer called drake this is perfect place for you to stay. Elaine is a wealth of knowledge of the local history, folklore with no shortage of interesting local places to visit. To summarise this short review a hidden gem.

  • Elaine was better than a host. She made us feel like family even to the point of giving me her physio appointment, as I had accidentally damaged my foot. Not only that, but we had gone over to Ireland to try and trace my family background and she cracked it. Amazing amazing or what. Marks out of 10. 12. You won’t be disappointed GO & ENJOY 🍀👍🏻🙏🏻❤️

  • What a lovely place to stay! Elaine's home is beautiful, comfortable, and I was made to feel very welcomed and to make myself at home. I think that this was the best night's sleep I've had in many, many years. And the homemade bread at breakfast...wow!

  • Our stay with Elaine was amazing. Elaine is very hospitable and accommodating, a lovely person. We lacked nothing. There is a living room that is fully available with everything your heart desires, from an open fire (which Elaine lit every night) to a bottle of wine. Breakfast was simple, but tasty and plentiful. A fridge, kettle and microwave are available. As well as the food. The bedrooms are nice and big and very lovingly decorated! On our departure, Elaine sent us on the way with many tips in our interests (which she had selected by listening carefully), fruit and congratulations. A boxer lives with her, a very nice dog, who is only allowed to enter the guest area on request.

  • Elaine's home is absolutely fabulous, such a beautiful place! The house is so quirky with endless personality. Elaine has so many personal touches and thought put into hosting. She was excellent at communicating even though my booking was last minute. I arrived to a very warm welcome and a beautiful log fire. The room was gorgeous with the most comfortable bed! Elaine even put on the electric blanket for me! She had also left out little sweets and chocolates which was lovely. The property is just off the motorway, making a great stop-off point. The area is so peaceful and tranquil however, that it would make a great place to stay a little longer. Although it's rural, the proximity to the motorway and the fact it's in the midlands makes it a great base for travelling around Ireland. Best of all was Elaine's hospitality. I had such a lovely evening chatting with Elaine and another guest by the fire with her fabulous dog, Drake. It really was a lovely experience!

  • Jj and his cottage was the best place we stayed in during a 6 week trip through the UK and Ireland. Better than the photos! It has tons of natural light and the place feels fresh and special.. He did a great job with the renovations. We cooked there and the kitchen was great. The bed so comfortable for us after many days of traveling. It was great to be in such a quiet, pretty place yet only a short drive into to the city center. Jj shared some of the history of the place and gave great recommendations for places to eat in town. Our only complaint...we couldn't stay longer.

    Heather2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice, comfortable and clean apartment. My wife and I really enjoyed a couple of days here while at a wedding nearby. JJ was a great host; really responsive to any questions that we had and helped to arrange a taxi to & from the wedding. The apartment is really nice. The WiFi is good, its really clean and the kitchen is well equipped if you want to do any cooking. Thanks JJ

Beautiful semi-detached barn conversion professionally designed to a high standard, offering modern comforts whilst retaining an authentic feel. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s working farm, who are on hand to offer advice on the local area, the cottages are in an excellent central location on the Tipperary/Offaly border, almost equidistant from the picturesque town of Birr, 7½km, and one of the oldest towns in Ireland, Roscrea, 6km, and a 2km drive from Gloster house and wedding venue.
Outside there is a large covered barbecue and seating area, ideal for al fresco dining, or for a cosy night in by the wood burner, evening meals can be ordered from the main house (by prior arrangement) via a connecting phone. A few minutes’ away is the village of Kinnitty, at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, where there are hiking trails for all ages to get off the beaten track and enjoy the spectacular views of the Midlands from an elevated position.
Heaving with history, nearby Birr is one of Ireland’s premier heritage towns with its handsome ensemble of Georgian architecture and tree-lined avenues. Visit Birr Castle with its stunning formal gardens and interactive Science Centre, enjoy a show at Birr theatre, a cross country trek at Birr equestrian centre, or take one of the walking trails starting from the town square, such as the Birr Town Trail, a great way to explore the town, or the pretty Riverbank Walk trail. The nearby town of Roscrea boasts many attractions and activities including the 13th century Roscrea Castle, 15th century Franciscan Abbey, the Round Tower, 18-hole golf course and a leisure centre, as well as Ireland’s first gravity-fed mountain bike park catering for all abilities. Close to the cottages is Leap Castle, reputedly Ireland’s most haunted castle and well worth a visit! Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

  • The Dairy is lovely, very stylish and at the same time lovely and cozy. The outlook is also beautiful. The dogs are friendly and you will hear the occasional farm yard animal which is a nice touch. Collette and Ronan are brilliant hosts and had provided a lovely hamper as we stayed over Christmas and the fire was lit as we arrived. I couldn't recommend Collette's place highly enough! Also the Fresh Eggs laid on the property make the perfect poached eggs!

  • The Creamery is a wonderful little hideaway retreat.. On arrival you're greeted by the three beautiful dogs who were wonderful company throughout the stay! Colette is an accomplished and welcoming host who also enjoys meeting new people. The accommodation itself is far more spacious than I'd imagined and very well laid out. Wifi is there now too so an added bonus to those who may need such.. The main guest bed is wonderfully comfortable with lovely linen and blanket / throw.. The setting is lovely, tucked discreetly away from the hosts beautuful residence... Look forward to returning one day ..

  • Staying at the Creamery was a delight! Colette was a fantastic host! She had fruit, milk & free range eggs waiting for us, so we didnt have to worry about breakfast for the next morning, which meant we could relax instantly. The creamery was perfect, cosy, warm & had all we needed. We had a wonderful day trip to Galway which was only 1hr 20mins away. The following day we stayed local and explored the Slieve Bloom Mountains & Kinnitty Castle. The Creamery is the perfect spot to explore Irelands west coast from. Thank you Colette, we will be back!!

  • The Old Grainstore and its host is a place you would keep secret. But Colette and family deserve a lot of guests. The Midlands are called "Irelands secret". And we now do understand why!! We couldn't imagine a better place to stay to discover the wonderful Midlands. If you wish by bicycle with roadtips from Colettes husband Ronan. The house is marvellous and very tastful!

  • Perfect stay! Everything was as described and in perfect condition/style. The property is absolutely gorgeous-- couldn't have asked for a better spot to spend a few days as home base while visiting family in Birr. We will definitely be back!

Built in 1820, our stately home is the former rectory for Loughkeen Church. Stay with us at Loughkeen and enjoy total tranquility within a unique ambiance and warm, country hospitality. The historic town of Birr with its Castle and world-renowned telescope are less than 10 mins away. Surrounded my rolling green fields, the Slieve Bloom mountains, Lough Boora and various bog walks are all close by, while Lough Derg is 20 minutes away for those who like fishing, sailing and watersports.
We have 3 bedrooms available (including a luxurious four-poster bed!) sleeping a total of 6 people. As the house dates to 1820, there are no ensuites but there is a toilet on the first floor with a shower room on the ground floor. Bursting with character, each room has a personality of its own with many pieces of fine antique furniture, rare memorabilia and delicate trinkets on display. Please bear in mind as the house is around 200 years old, it doesn't quite have the same amount of insulation as modern houses (!) but each bed has an electric blanket so you'll be toasty while you sleep. We have a large array of animal friends living on the grounds with us; 6 Irish draught horses, 5 dogs, 4 breeds of poultry including Jemina the Indian runner duck who thinks she's a hen, 3 guinea pigs (our eco-friendly lawnmowers), a pond full of goldfish and a resident barn owl! Just ask us if you'd like to help feed our feathered friends and help gather the free-range eggs just in time for breakfast!
We are located in the middle of rural Ireland, as such Tim will gladly give tours of the local peat bog Clohaskin. A unique site for native Irish flora and the last glimpse of one of Ireland's vanishing boglands. We are 15 minutes from Leap Castle, the most haunted castle in Ireland where the owner Seán gives lively guided tours. Lough Boora Discovery Park is nearby; a location for all kinds of outdoor activities such as cycling, fishing and bird-watching and walking trails of varying lengths.
  • Its hard to describe such an amazing experience with Tim. We felt transported back in time and close to nature interacting with the horses and gazing out on the fields from our castle-like accommodations. Each morning we were greeted with a full breakfast in front of a fire, and each evening a fire in the living room. Mostly, we appreciated Tims warm welcome, attentiveness, and down to earth humor. Although we met Hazel only briefly upon her return from a trip, she is as friendly and accommodating and we look forward to returning to this haven and spending time with our new friends!

    Kate2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • A unique stay in every way. Tim and Hazel are very kind people who welcomed us as friends. We will remember for a long time this evening shared with them in the living room around a peat fire. Thanks again ! Catherine & Patrick.

  • This really is a very special place to stay. Go with time to relax and to appreciate both the house and the wonderful hosts. We certainly plan to visit again.

  • I had a wonderful visit with Tim and Hazel, I felt like a true guest in their home. I arrived in the evening and they lit a fire for me downstairs where we chatted for ages. My room had a four poster bed and was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and I enjoyed more conversation about the history of the house and local area and much more besides. My night at Loughkeen was a real highlight of a long weekend break in the west. Thank you both!

  • A true Irish welcome and experience. Tim and Hazel are the perfect hosts!

    E2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Stop looking: this is Ireland’s finest B&B. We are AirBnB hosts ourselves, and so we know a special experience when we see one. The home is near Birr and its surrounds, yet is remote enough to truly relax and get away from it all. From the moment we turned up the tree-lined drive and the stately former rectory came into view, we were enchanted. Inside it is packed with history, beautiful furnishings and unique artifacts that tell the story of the house, their family, and to a degree, Ireland itself. But as stunning and antique-filled the home is, it is just a place: what made this stay so special was the people. Tim and Hazel are perfect ambassadors for AirBnB: they are friendly, gracious, inviting, warm and open. Their hospitality was unmatched. We wanted for nothing during our stay; they shared great tips on dining and attractions, we were encouraged to explore the house and farm, (seeing their magnificent horses was a real treat for the kids), they entertained us with good wine and great conversation well into the night, and the next morning provided the finest breakfast we’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. We came away knowing we’d include a stay with our new friends Hazel and Tim in every future trip to the area, if they have room for us. You should do the same.

    Dana & Guy2019-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to enjoy true Irish hospitality! The house is a treasure chest, full of wonderful and interesting things! A new treasure around every corner and Tim is a marvelous host with extensive knowledge of the area! Do yourself a favor and stay at this charming house!

  • A relaxing weekend in the country with wonderful people and conversation. The house is a museum and the farm a menagerie of animals. It was totally fascinating.

  • Caroline is a PERFECT host. She gave us 'must sees' and lots of information about nearby locations. She was so helpfull and kind. The place is quiet at night, the room is clean, big and cosy. We had a delicious breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • Irish country-side at its best. Caroline and William are pots of knowledge on the surrounding areas and their home offers the perfect base to see the surrounds. If you can find the local whiskey Redbreast, make a point of getting a case, it alone was worth the trip to the land of the green.

    Heath2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in rural Ireland! The room was very clean, tidy, cozy, welcoming and quiet. Caroline is a kind and concernful person and her breakfast was delicious!

  • Caroline and William were fantastic in making our 2 night stay thoroughly enjoyable and stress free (We were staying for a wedding in Glouster House). Having our own entrance and key was great. Breakfast was amazing at such a reasonable price and our bedroom and bathroom were spotless. The small snacks on arrival was a lovely touch also. We would highly recommend.

"...a perfect central location if you want to travel to various areas within Ireland", Castle House features a unique 16th century tower and a 250 year old farmhouse incorporated into the fabric of a modern home. This architectural blend of buildings from three different centuries, creates a rather unorthodox layout, combining the traditional and the cutting edge in a beautiful, quaint setting.
The castellated tower is definitely the feature which draws the most attention, but Castle House has so much to offer. Located in the small village of Killea, near the foot of Devil's Bit Mountain, we are surrounded by lush countryside. During your stay you can enjoy the beautiful views from our garden and relax in the unique comfort of the house itself. There are many leisurely pursuits available around Killea and Templemore, such as golf, horse riding, fishing or hiking. And in the evening there is entertainment and refreshment almost on our very doorstep at the O'Sullivans pub, renowned far and wide for it's friendly atmosphere, live traditional music and for serving a perfect pint of Guinness! We are a little over five kilometers from the town of Templemore on a relatively untraveled rural road. The junction to the M7 motorway is 15 km from Castle House, and from there you have an easy and direct route either East towards Dublin (about 1 hour and 40 mins) or West to Limerick (about 45 mins) and then on to Galway. This makes both Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport very convenient.
  • We found the house to be very welcoming. All mod cons were in working order and the bed was very comfortable! Dave has a collection of board games to suit all tastes and we spent 6 hours cracking one of the Sherlock Holmes cases :) The short climb up the castle tower with Dave as our guide was also a highlight of our stay. Ideal base to explore the rich history of the midlands.

  • Great stay great hosts

    Miriam2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • So nice we stayed twice. What was meant to be a one night stay to crash and get some sleep after a heavy few days/nights of Guinness, hiking, Guinness and the Wild Atlantic Way as we headed back to Dublin turned into one of our holiday highlights. The space is FANTASTIC. The restoration job Dave and Susanna have done is super and the place (which is a fully separate house from theirs) is spotless, full of country charm and well-equipped if you fancy cooking a hot meal and drinking a bottle of wine before watching Netflix on the sofa. It's a wonderful home with a pub two minutes walk down the road and a busy village five to ten minutes drive. We stayed again for a second night and loved it even more. Make sure you climb up to the castle tower for a whiskey with the guys and save energy to hike up Devil's Bit.

  • Great little place with an amazing view! Easy to find, great locals, hosts were helpful and friendly.

  • What a wonderful experience! Dave and Susana were super nice. Dave gave us a tour of the house and showed us many details of the castle they both live in and renovated since last year. The rooms all look very nice with many details and decorations. There is a lot of space to hang out besides the bedrooms and a lot of things to explore. The boardgame collection they share with the guests is unbelievable! A perfect place to stay with friends and enjoy a weekend of cooking together and playing boardgames all day long.

Wildfoodmary's home, Silver Birch, The Sliver Birch room has a king and a single bed with travel cottage available on request. It is large, (17 sq meters) and has excellent wifi coverage and space to work. The garden/orchard is one acre, wildlife friendly. There are frogs, bats, song birds and hedgehogs. Located at the foothills of the beautiful Slieve Bloom Mountains , google wildfoodmary to see more or book foraging. Close to Birr, Kinnitty and Roscrea.
Wild food Mary's house is on the site of a small settlement where there was a cluster of cottages close to a well. today there is the house, a cosy cottage and the ruins of an interesting building. The house restored and improved by Mary and friends has heaps of personality with original art works. Surrounded by an acre of semi wild orchard and veggie garden. We do not have TV or microwave, but there is good wifi. Comfy living room with wood burning stove and large well equipped kitchen/dining. Covered "snug" in garden where you can sit for a cuppa or lie and dream away an afternoon.
Wildfoodmary lives on a quiet country road about ten minutes drive from Birr, from Kinnitty and from Roscrea. Here she conducts workshops and hosts wild and organic meals. You can book a wild food experience with her where you can get up close to an astonishing array of wild plants and remedies, see website for more detail. A short walk away is Leap castle home of Ireland's foremost tin-whistle player, open to public Mon-Sat and venue for many music gigs through-out the year. We are also a short hop from Boora bog sculpture and recreation park, Birr castle demense and Bike Ireland's circuit at Fairymonut farm not to mention the Slieve Blooms which has extensive walking trails and soon to come biking trails. So whether you want peace and quiet with leisurly strolls, are attending a wedding in the area or want to meet the spirits in Leap this is a great location.
  • Mary is a wonderful host. She’s very welcoming and outgoing, and also gave me private space. She sometimes took me to cities and mountains showing foraging, which I loved it. The house is clean, the kitchen is full equipped. You will also enjoy her garden just sitting on a chair or meditating. I would highly recommend her place.

  • The Old World Birr Cottage is a bit like stumbling on Bilbo's hobbit hole, like you'd always dreamed would happen! What a special place this is. Paul is knowledgable about the area and property and will give you background on what makes the cottage so unique. If you're a history buff, I highly recommend not missing staying here, and County Offaly is a beautiful part of the country with some of the loveliest towns and best castles to see. Hope to return!

  • Wonderful, rustic and enchanting cottage for a step back in time and embracing the peace and quiet. Paul is a fantastic host and full of so much information and enthusiasm, we wish we’d booked for a longer stay. Loved the welcoming touches of eggs, sausages, bread and beer in the fridge for our arrival! Lovely walk with Paul to learn about the local flora/fauna/history. And don’t miss exploring nearby Leap Castle and the faerie woods at the back of the property, you’re in for a treat!

The rooms were warm, the beds comfortable and everything was really clean. There is a charming pub just a stones throw from the house, so very easy to pop down for pint. The views are beautiful, very tranquil and picturesque. Even though we stayed there while attending a music festival, we left feeling very rested - quite an achievement! Dave and Susana were lovely hosts. I would highly recommend this place to stay.

  • A treasure in North Tipperary - a really wonderful place, with space and style. Our upstairs bedroom had a breathtaking view accross north Tipp into Kilkenny. Totally unexpected. If you are passing on M7 or touring inland in Ireland, it's highly recommended.

  • What a fascinating home. Castle House is unique. The tower forming the core of the property is fascinating; take the opportunity to climb to the top. This old property has been modernised to an excellent standard: quirky but at the same time highly practical - everything you need is here. Dave and Susana are attentive, friendly hosts; we highly recommend a visit.

    Raymond2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very cool to stay in a home that had so much history including the tower that you got to go up and it was set in an amazingly beautiful location the sites were beautiful. We didn’t meet Susanna but Dave was really kind and patient and helpful. There was a pub just next-door that you could walk to in the middle of nowhere and the people there were delightful

    Jennifer2019-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful house in a wonderful environment. Stunning views, lost of cows and a real rural feeling. We loved to stay here. Had a wonderful time. You need to have a (rental) car to find your way over here. Very friendly hosts!

    Nathalie2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful home, extremely high standard on the renovation whilst retaining all the charm and historical features. Great facilities lovely welcoming hosts everything is perfect with a great old pub a minute's walk away. Templemore is nearby for food, shops etc or you can cook at home as we did. This was our second trip and we'll be back!

    Sheena2019-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Just a fantastic stay, Susana & Dave have created a modern stunning space while retaining all the features of the original building. They could not have been more welcoming & Dave showed us the Tower with amazing views & lots of tips where to eat in nearby Templemore. We ended our evening in O’Sullivan’s a very short stumble down the road, a unique pub with the best Guinness, friendly people & armchairs to pull up to the stove. Room & bed were so comfortable, felt like a long weekend not just one night. We’ll be back thanks to you both x

This stylish, contemporary and luxurious double bedroom with en-suite is situated in a calm, tranquil setting just outside the Georgian heritage town of Birr with Birr castle demense and historic science museum. The room comfortably sleeps two adults but there's plenty of space for a cot/camp bed. Guests are offered tea/coffee/hot chocolate on arrival and a nitecap of a local liquor is offered before retiring to bed.
Our house is warm bright and has everything you need to make your stay a memorable one. We really enjoy meeting people and love to hear about their different experiences and stories. Alternatively if someone wishes minimal interaction that's no problem either.
It is in a tranquil countryside setting but yet only a short walk from the town of Birr. Birr is a famous Heritage Georgian town with Birr Castle demense and science museum. The town itself has a fabulous river walk with an outdoor gym and super playground. There's a skateboard park for energetic teenagers! Birr has plenty of great coffee shops. Kinnitty slieve boom mountains are on our doorstep.
  • Our stay at Callum's place was fantastic. Our host Brona was super friendly and so welcoming, it really made our stay special. She gave us advice and travel tips for Birr and other parts of our trip, including a great local dinner recommendation. The house is amazing, the photos don't do it justice - spacious, clean and very comfortable. Not to mention the family pets (dog, cat and chicken) are adorable!

    Amber2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. This actually Callum’s parent’s place. Don’t worry, they know and they live there. Bronx, Callum’s Mum is super friendly and keen to chat. I highly recommend their home. You are made to feel like more than an AirBNB guest but a member of the family. Birr is fantastic and one night is not enough to explore this great area.

The room was super comfortable and stylish, and the house was so clean. Thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast- especially the fresh eggs from the hen! Couldn’t recommend this stay enough- míle buíochas, David and Mike xx

Not only was Mary incredibly accommodating in terms of picking us up and dropping us off in the square, she also gave a us a very warm welcome to her home with wild food tours around her home and local treats. I can not recommend this experience enough. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience central Ireland. Thank you Mary! I will definitely be returning!

  • Staying at Marys place was a wonderful experience. The home is cozy and comfortable, the host is a lovely person, she made us feel like home right from the first minutes! 5/5 recommended.

    Nicholas2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing experience staying at Mary's house. When we arrived it was quite late but she came to pick us as we were a little bit lost. After arrival we were served with tea and a home baked cake which was extremely delicious. She made sure to make us comfortable. I didn't even feel that we are strangers as Mary has an extremely pleasing personality. Neighbourhood was calm in the night but was full of greenery and birds in the day time. Rooms were neat, clean and tidy. The next day we were served with nice homely breakfast prepared by Mary. The best part was that she had her breakfast with us, felt like we are a family. Additionally my wife also spent some time with her in her hobby garden where she grows various types of herbs. My wife liked her positive and welcoming personality. If given a chance we would definitely go and stay there again. I would recommend this place to every one. Because staying there is an experience.

  • I stayed with Mary while working in Birr. Mary's cottage is an obvious labour of love, beautifully restored and very welcoming. My room was perfect - cosy, quiet and clean, and very good value. I was provided with two beautiful meals, a very tasty chicken dish and a gorgeous breakfast complete with a homemade smoothie. Mary is great company and made every effort to make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend staying with her if you're heading to Birr.

  • It was such a pleasure to stay with Kim in her Cloughjordan home. I was attending a wedding in Cloughjordan House and Kim's home was a very simple 6 minute drive from the venue. I received such a warm welcome from Kim - and her horse Ciara and dog Jake! - complete with lovely cups of tea and a perfect continental breakfast. I would highly recommend staying with Kim and look forward to my next visit to her home.

    Aoife2019-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • This a beautiful house and Kim is a great host. Was in touch regularly before our arrival and the house is located just 2 minutes drive from Cloughjordan.

    Sean2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn't speak highly enough about Kim and her place. The welcome was so natural and unaffected. James was just the same. Both of them were happy to engage in chat if you wanted to, but equally happy to allow you to go about your business. My little dog was welcome too, which meant a lot to me. The room itself is lovely and very well kept with a large comfortable bed. Toilet and bathroom down the corridor. Wi-fi available as well. I'll be trying to find excuses to go to that end of the country again! Definitely five stars all round.

  • I was attending a wedding at Cloughjordan house. Kim from the moment I arrived couldn't have been more helpful. I was picked up without question well into the early hours of the morning. I woke to find a beautiful selection of Irish style breakfast treats in the kitchen. The room was extremely clean, bed and sheets were so comfortable and made for the perfect sleep. I highly recommend this place and do not let the location put you off.

  • This was our second time staying at this little gem! Kim and James are lovely people providing guests with everything they need and MUCH more! Besides that, the room is very spacious and immaculately clean. It really feels like home away from home at this place and therefore I'd absolutely recommend it!

  • Exceptional host in a beautiful home We stayed with Kim while attending a wedding at Cloughjordan House. Kim was a truly exceptional host who went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. Communications with Kim were excellent before, during and after the visit, and Kim very generously drove us to and from the wedding venue (including a 4 am pickup!). The house itself was lovely and finished to a very high standard, with all amenities provided (water, WiFi, toiletries etc) and a nice continental style breakfast in the morning. I would highly recommend staying with Kim to anyone in a similar situation. Fionn & Sarah

  • Fiona's place is great!! The ensuite room is airy and spacious. It has a comfortable queen bed and plenty of space for luggage. She provided a simple breakfast and directions and suggestions for what to do while in the Midlands. She was very accommodating at check-in and was lovely throughout my stay. Greenville Cottage is an art filled home, with history, warmth, atmosphere. The sounds of birds and nature are all around, and proximity to the Devil's Bit Mountain and other nice walking areas is a bonus. Your hostess has a deep interest in the arts and history and is close by if guests need help planning their trip. Denise's artisan breads are part of the welcome. An ideal place to get away from it all and yet central for visiting cities like Kilkenny, Limerick, Cork, Dublin as day trips.
Greenville Cottage is part of my home, a stone built thatched cottage dating back to the early 1840s. It was built by my Great Great Great Grand Father Martin Maher. His brother James also resided at the property, in the part where I reside with my husband and three children. James and his family emigrated in the late 1840s, to the United States, settling in Greenville Ohio. The Cottage Accommodates four guests, having two bedrooms, the Parlour Bedroom and the Loft Bedroom, and one bathroom, as well as a small but functional kitchen and the living/dining room we call "The Aula" . In the past year we had to do necessary renovations on the cottage and are very grateful to the Heritage grant that facilitated the re-thatching of the back roof. Guests can enjoy looking at the beauty of this craftsmanship while eating in the Orchard Garden, snugly situated at the rear of the house, and available to our guests. The house has many examples of art, mostly by local artists, photographers and crafts people, who are our friends, which guests can enjoy, and the interior design of the cottage is of an exceptional high standard.
The area is rural, situated near the Devil's Bit Mountain. There is a lovely town park in Templemore town, with a lake which is ideal for picnics and walking. You will be close to the Rock of Cashel, Birr, Kilkenny city and many other places of historical importance in midlands Ireland. Guests can also take slightly longer day trips to Dublin, Cork, Kerry and still return home to the comfort of Greenville Cottage at night.
  • This is a very special, unique, creative, welcoming and warm place. Denise went above and beyond with her hospitality and helpful info about the region. The space was extremely comfortable, with many sweet touches, like the fire in the stove each evening. The welcome package of local treats was so delicious. Denise's bread is addictive! It was a privilege to stay in this family home. thanks to Denise and Joseph for their thoughtful kindness. Highly recommend.

  • Greenville Cottage provides an authentic Irish stay in the beautiful county of Tipperary. A great locale for exploring all that is on offer in Templemore and beyond. The name “Meagher” means kindly and hospitable, which is exactly how you’ll find Denise and Joe. We were greeted with local fare and homemade artisan bread, a comfortable bed and a lovingly restored cottage showcasing local artists works and other interesting artefacts. We look forward to returning to this beautiful county in the future.

  • Denise and Joe offer a lovely quiet setting in an old family cottage that’s been restored. It’s a cozy cottage on a quiet lane, with a peat burning stove to warm up a chilly evening. The cottage is comfortable, relaxing, and provides all a traveler needs. Denise welcomes guests with wonderful homemade bread. The cottage is a short drive to the Devil’s Bit, and Rock of Cashal as well as other sights in the interior of Ireland. I would certainly recommend travelers to Ireland visit Denise’s B&B.

  • Joe is a great host, lovely private , peaceful place to stay.

    Kathleen2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Joe and his place were outstanding. If you want the genuine Irish countryside experience, this is a perfect choice. We were 90 minutes from both Dublin and Galway and even closer to Limerick with plenty to see and experience between all of those cities. We loved it!

    David2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was sparkling clean and full of fabulous amenities (sauna, lots of cooking equipment, TV etc). Location was very serene and quiet but a 10 minute drive into Mountrath which was ideal. Joe was extremely welcoming and helpful and a very gracious host. Thanks again Joe!

    Ellie2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, warm intimate atmosphere. We loved played whit Joe's Scrabble whit our son!! Very clean and beautiful all the places around, Birr castle, Roscrea...

    Franca2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a really good stay. The communication between Joe and us was great. The house was clean and tidy. Everything we needed was there. We look forward to come again.

    David2019-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, we spent 3 nights there. Joe met us late at night and showed us all the important ones. Joe was always available for questions. The place is a bit out of the way, but you can get to all corners of the country relatively quickly. We recommend the accommodation in any case!

    Alex2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joe is a really great guy. He lives at the house right next door so was available if there were any problems (which there weren't) and he kindly left us everything we needed for a full Irish breakfast on our first morning as he knew we wouldn't be able to get to the shops when we arrived. The place was lovely and clean and the bed was super comfortable. We had everything we needed including internet and kitchen amenities. The shower was amazing - hot and powerful. We didn't try the sauna but that's a nice added touch too. Overall the property was lovely and warm too which was great as I'm a cold person. Additionally I found the bungalow ideal for my needs as I'm disabled; there were no steps to navigate, we could park right outside and the shower was low level so I didn't need to step up into it. We were over in Ireland visiting family so didn't get to do much sight seeing but the views outside were beautiful and would be great for a nature filled walk. It was lovely and dark at night as we were out in the countryside and the sound of the trickling steam nearby meant we slept like babies for the entire stay. We highly recommend Joe and his pad in Camross for a comfortable stay.

From start to finish, Marion made sure that my siblings, my girlfriend and myself were looked after and made feel at home. We were in Cloughjordan for a wedding and the location was absolutely ideal. I would highly recommend staying here if you get the chance. Thanks Marion!

  • Beautiful cottage set in the heart of Ireland. Linda and John are great hosts and we were made to feel very welcome during our time at the cottage starting with a lovely welcome pack and a short visit by John. The cottage took me back to my childhood holidays when I would visit my grandparents. It is ideally located for walking and cycling, horse riding and switching off. Similarly, it is an hour and a half to the exciting and bohemian Galway and the rest of the west coast. I will certainly be recommending their cottage to friends and family.

  • We would definitely go back to Oakwood house. It’s beautiful, peaceful, & the view is fantastic. The farm has several very nice trails for hiking and there’s a lake for fishing. There are some very nice touches around the house, like a fireplace and a sunroom. The rooms are situated in such a way that one or two people can be up in the kitchen and living room area without disturbing the others. John and Linda were friendly and truly helpful, and even invited us to a local event they were involved with. That was a really fun time as we got to just visit with people and get to hang out for awhile. When we arrived the first evening there were fresh flowers on the table and a basket of fruit on the counter, along with eggs, milk and bread for our morning meal. We got in late, and it was nice to be provided for in this way. Five stars all the way! We wanted a quiet family vacation with short drives to see the sites, but if you’re big into night life, this may not be the place you want. However, John and Linda thoughtfully provided a list of surrounding attractions, grocery stores and other services. Nothing is very far, but you are definitely out in the countryside. We probably WILL go back. Absolutely loved it!

    Nicolas2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oakwood! What a lovely and cozy place in the countryside! We were able to make Oakwood our home base and travel all around...Galway, Kilkenny, Cliffs of Moher, Dublin, Roscrea, Nenagh, Kildare...and more! We walked the hill trail a couple of times and the lake trail. The lake is so beautiful and peaceful! I encourage anyone that stays at Oakwood to take full advantage of the beautiful surroundings! John and Linda are fantastic hosts! There were beautiful fresh flowers in a vase upon our arrival as well as milk, butter, eggs, and soda bread. For anyone flying into Shannon on an overnight flight, we rented our car and had a wonderful Irish breakfast at Rowan Berry-not far from the airport. We then spent time at Bunratty Castle and folk park which is on the way to Oakwood. John told us where the Tesco was so after check-in, we drove the short distance to the Tesco which is a large supermarket and stocked up on food (and wine and beer!). We made dinner that night and after dinner took the Hill trail walk behind the house. You walk through pastures of horses and sheep. The perfect ending to a long day! We hope to be back someday!

    Melissa2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We would highly recommend the house. We had an excellent stay and Jon was very helpful. The kitchen is well equipped with some personal touches. Very comfortable beds and ample space for all. The hill walk and lake walks were beautiful and definitely should not be missed. Thank you.

  • Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oakwood! The home was perfect for the five of us (three adults and two kids). It had all the amenities we needed and was very clean and well-kept. We enjoyed exploring the trails on the farm and took advantage of the quiet peacefulness after a week spent driving all over Ireland. Linda and John were amazing hosts! They were great at communicating with us and checking in on us to make sure we made it OK and were comfortable. I hope to return to Ireland and Oakwood someday!

  • What a lovely stay we had at Coolderry House. We loved being based out in the country, being greeted by Colette’s three dogs every time we were on the property, and watching the cows from our windows. It’s a great spot but would definitely recommend having a car. We didn’t and we relied heavily on taxis which added up quickly. A trip into Birr was about €15 one way. Colette and her husband were ever so helpful - even picked us up from the town centre when our bus arrived and then brought us to Tesco to get some late-night groceries. So kind and accommodating. The accommodations were clean, spacious and comfortable. Thanks for having us!

The cottage is spacious and bright - completely exceeded our expectation. The beds were luxurious - so comfortable. The children enjoyed collecting eggs for breakfast and fell in love with the farm dogs. The setting is so tranquil. Thank you so much for having us as your guests!
