Homes & Vacation Rentals in Roccantica

Vacation Rentals in Italy

Just booked in Roccantica

Appartamento melone
Forcelle al Sole is located just outside the small medieval village of Roccantica. Here the two ancient rural buildings transformed into apartments are situated. The cottages are next to a centennial olive grove and a forest, sited in one of the more striking Sabina's landscapes. Independent apartments are available, all with a bathroom and a kitchen, and organized on two levels: a ground floor and a mezzanine. Moreover, they come with a furnished outdoor area and a solarium corner. The apartments were built from portions of two old stone "caprareccia" dwellings which were completely restored. Both benefit of a unique location and offer a delightful panorama.
  • Amazing View and amazing location. If you are searching for a quiet place in the middle of the nature with a breath taking view, you are in the right place. Unforgettable experience!!

  • If you're in need of a quiet and tranquil escape from the busy Italian cities, then Forcelle Al Sole is ideal. Perched on a hillside above Roccantica, the well appointed and comfortable apartments are tastefully rebuilt on historic foundations. If you are a cycle tourist, you will need your legs, lungs and lowest gears to make it up the hill. Otherwise, hire car or public transport are your best bet. If you plan to stay a few days, you may wish to bring supplies. There is a small store in town (opposite the church), but stock is limited to staples. That said, the staff are friendly and it would be good to support the local economy if you can. The town itself is beautifully maintained and is about as far off the tourist trail as you could expect to get in Italy. There are a few hikes and some rock climbing nearby, and you should also say hello to the friendly donkeys in the 300 year old olive grove... oh, and be sure to try the craft beer on offer! Also, the hosts are very friendly and helpful.

  • This house is in the most completely stunning position imaginable! Highly recommended. Amazing to spend a long evening just relaxing, eating and watching the sunset from the terrace. The house is simply and tastefully decorated, everything is fresh and clean. It's only about 1km above the lovely hill village of Roccantica, where there are a couple of good restaurants (Il Borgo we very much enjoyed- it too has amazing views), and a good shop and cafe. It's a steep but not long walk back from the village. Daniela was very helpful and communicative. Potential minor drawbacks were that the terrace is very hot (we were there in August) as it gets the sun all day, and there is no natural shade, only an umbrella, which is OK to fit 2 people under, but not really 4! I had to hide round the back of the house, or take a siesta, it was so hot. On the other hand, this sunny position would be a bonus in the spring, or for sun worshippers! Also it's worth noting that the house consists of just one big room, although with separate bathroom and kitchen, so not ideal for 2 couples. From the picture, I thought one of the bedrooms looked like it was separate. And it would be nice to have a kettle! But overall, a really amazing house, and location, and village, and region, unspoilt by tourists, do go there!

  • What a place to kick back, relax and enjoy the view! Great secluded location but easy drive into nearby towns. Outdoor space was amazing. Some of the best sunsets in all our 3 weeks in Italy. Daily talks with the neighboring donkeys were enjoyed. You do have to pay a little extra for wifi and it does have high use limitations, but did not effect our stay negatively at all. Great hosts. Highly recommend.

  • Such a beautiful and tranquil place - and a wonderful escape from the fast-pace of everyday life. The apartment has lots of space and light and the most breathtaking views over the Roccantica hills and countryside - watching the olive harvest, from the beautiful picture windows. We even had an occasional donkey visitor at the kitchen door. This really is a beautiful place to stay. Daniela was really warm and welcoming and most helpful in all our communication. Thank you so much.

  • The apartments are situated on the hill on the very quiet and wonderful place with really breathtaking view on the Roccantica small, medieval and charming village where the time has stopped. Perfect for people looking for privacy and a little slow down. The only minor problem is that there is no internet and it is better to bring some food with you becouse in Roccanica there is only one small local shop but on the other hand you can buy in it for example delicious fresh roasted porchetta :-). We hope to come back to this lovely place.

  • Even more beautiful than the picture and amazing people in the area. We were very happy!

  • I booked a night at Forcelle al sole at the very last minuet. Giving Daniela only 30 mins notice before I arrived. They were very sweet and were waiting for me when I turned up. The property is lovely, set in a beautiful location with far reaching views. I was traveling alone with my dog and it was perfect. I had a great nights sleep and highly recommend this property. I would say stop at the supermarket on the way for supplies as there is nothing around you. Also luckily I had a wifi key with me as there is no wifi at the property and the signal is not great. However if you are looking for somewhere to chill and watch the sun set with a bottle of wine this is the place for you.

Apartment placed in an ancient complex of 1600 that overlooks a large garden with old trees. On two floors, it consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, large living room with dining area and relaxation room with fireplace, fitted kitchen.
This residence offers the charm of old houses and the colors of an unspoilt landscape. Completely renovated, it has all the amenities for a comfortable and relaxing everyday life. Going up the stairs you appreciate the rock walls and a lovely trompe-l'oeil. Inside, the high ceilings with wooden beams create a warm, but the presence of the rock offers, even in the hot summer, a cool and relaxing atmosphere. The environment is full of opportunities for recreation and interest, but also offers the weary tourist routes known and frequentatisssimi, the opportunity to take alternative routes, reserving unusual aspects and affasciananti.
  • We had a wonderful holiday at Giovanna's house in Roccantica. The house itself is very comfortable and full of character. It was unusually hot during our stay but the house was always nice and cool to come back to. We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived and thoughtful touches such as a full fruit bowl were very welcome after the long journey to Italy. Roccantica itself is very picturesque and it was was enjoyable to walk through the narrow streets and watch the sunset from the top of the town in the evenings. There are many interesting places to go to within a short drive away and we particularly enjoyed a walk to an Etruscan pyramid near Bomarzo, splashing through the gorge at Farfa and visiting the ancient underground passageways in Orte. The views from the top of nearby Monte Pizzuto were well worth the climb. Rome isn't far away and we took a train from the nearby station. Sabine is a charming, beautiful and unspoilt area and Giovanna is a great host.

  • Villa is spacious, lovely and taken care with love (however, not recently renovated). But, we absolutely loved it there. A pool is big with wonderful surroundings and a garden is beautiful and there is a lot to do for children. They can play ping pong, table soccer, badminton or soccer. There are nice chairs and tables to stay in the shadow if it gets too hot. Antonia and Paolo and Lucano are very helpful and pool is cleaned every day. There are chickens so you can collect fresh eggs for breakfast. There are also ducks, horses and donkeys in the property. We definitely recommend this villa for families (e.g. for two families)!

  • An absolutely amazing house where, even though we there were 15 of us, we never felt like we were disturbing each other. Very spacious, clean and charming and the children were entertained all rhrough the stay just by staying by the pool, piano and ping-pong table. Many lovely areas to hang out during both day and night but there were also many pittoresque excursions just around the corner. Breathtaking views and garden, where an extra plus was getting fresh vegetables and eggs on-site. Everyone in our company was extremely happy with our 10-day-stay. Perfect holiday!

  • Wonderful house and experience. We have spent two amazing weeks at Antonia and Paolo's. The house, the pool, the huge lot and all the different services were truly appreciated. We absolutely recommend.

  • What a wonderful place, the villa, the garden, the pool, the views, the surrounding villages. We had a wonderful family holiday (5 adults and 4 kids) with everything you need to fully enjoy your family but still get enough privacy. We also enjoyed the Italian cooking skills of private chef Roberta. Thanks!

  • Our (company of 6 adults and 8 children) holiday in early June was full ten experience and Villa was more than we expected. Antonia's hospitality was more than great and that guaranteed comfortable staying to us all! Thank you Antonia once more!! The place is very childfriendly and suits also for several families. Rooms are spacious and the whole Villa is just exquisite. Pool area, pergola and garden is very nice. We loved the zucchinos and the herbs from own garden and the apricots from the courtyard trees. The nature and near villages are amazing and still Rome was just an hour away by car. And special mention for the fresh eggs that we got from the chicken coop in mornings, our childrens favorite morning routine was to see the chickens :) And also special thanks to caretaker Luciano who made sure that pool (and everything else) was nice and clean all the time :)

  • My wife and me, my mother in law, our children, their husbands and wives and 3 grandchildren, all together 12 persons, spent 8 days in Poggio Catino. When we arrived pretty late at night, Antonia and her family was waiting to welcome us, to show us around and inform about everything necessary. This house is really fantastic with plenty of bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. It also has a big kitchen with all necessary kitchen utensils and a lot of areas for social activities. We had all our meals outside at a big table that was placed below a roof. The garden is also spacious with a lot of possibilities for physical activities like volleyball, football and frisbee. There is also big areas with just green grass. You could pick your own grapes in the garden, the taste was just wonderful. When you were tired, you could sit down and relax outdoor as there are plenty of tables and chairs. We spent a lot of hours in the big (15 x 7 meter) swimming pool, equipped with a trampolin. There were of course plenty of sun chairs alongside. The pool was cleaned every night. Close to the garden there was a poultry house, where we could pick our eggs for breakfast. There were also horses and donkeys in the neighbourhood. Our grandchildren loved to watch all the animals close by. The days in Poggio Catino went very fast, we really enjoyed our stay in this house and we can strongly recommend it, especially for bigger groups. If we decide to visit Italy again, this house will be strongly considered as an option. We would love to come back in the future.

  • This house is absolutely amazing! 2 families of 4 came on holiday, 8 of us in total. The house is HUGE and authentic Italian! The hosts (Antonia & Valaria) were amazing, helpful, caring and lovely. Luciano who helps in the garden and does the pool every day was so friendly and happy, he brought us fresh eggs every day too. The pool is huge, clean and wonderful. It's such a remote and beautiful location, the views are stunning. We had dinner every night outside as a group on the terrace and we had Roberta to cook for us on two occasions, she was fabulous too. We also took the train into Rome, its only 1 hr 15mins from the villa by train. The whole holiday was exceptional, the area, house, animals and people are wonderful. We loved every second and would highly recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing, fun and beautiful holiday....

  • We were two families that rented the house together (4 adults and 4 children). We rented the house for one week and had a wonderful time. The house was very nice. Large and well planned out with separate zones for each family with bedrooms and connected bathrooms. The outdoor area was incredible with a big pool and many different seating options. The outdoor area is very large and contains everything you could want for a family vacation. There are a lot of different toys and activities for the children all over the premises. In example water volleyball, regular volleyball, tabletennis, soccer tables among other things. A nice guy called Luciano arrives every night to clean the pool and make sure that everything else is ok. Our children also enjoyed all the animals living around the house. There are horses, donkeys, ducks and hens. You can pick fresh eggs every morning from the hens in the garden. There is also a vegetable garden with different types of vegetables and herbs that you can eat from every day. The host, Antonia, was very helpful and nice. She always answered our questions quickly and gave us a lot of good information about the area and Italy. The only «downside» to the house (if you can call it that) is that it is pretty remote. You definitely need a rental car of you are renting this house. There is a small village (Poggia Catino) further up in the mountain, 5 minutes away from the house, where we bought fresh bread every morning. If you drive a bit further to Poggie Mirteto you find a bigger town with more stores and restaurants (beware that these are closed on mondays). Driving into Rome from this location takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. The upside to this location is that the view and scenery is absolutely beautiful and you won’t see another person while you are on the premises. So if you want a silent and relaxed vacation this is absolutely perfect. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants a relaxing time in a beautiful house in the italian mountainside. Especially if you have children.

Roccantica is an enchanting medieval village about 60 KM from Rome. The house is right in the middle of the village, one of the few with a garden. It is developed on two floors, separated by a small stair. The bathroom is outside the house but accessible when it rains! The silence and the beauty surround this lovely nest. In the village the only shop you can find is a bar, but you can find everything you may need in Casperia, a wonderful borgo about 5 minutes by car away.

Lovely one bedroom apartment on two levels in Casperia, medieval village in the countryside of Sabina (50 km from Rome). Living room with kitchenette (fridge, sink and stove) on the ground floor. 1 matrimonial bed and bathroom with shower upstairs.
The environment, dating from the XIV-XV sec., Is finely finished in stone, terracotta and wood and is on two levels. On the ground floor is the living room with equipped kitchen (stove, sink and refrigerator) while the upper floor houses a double bed for one and a half bath with shower (E 'possible to accommodate an additional person in the chair-bed on the floor land).
The apartment is a small gem set in the beautiful millennial town of Casperia, framed by the beautiful landscape of the Sabina, a rural area extending from the Tiber valley at Preappennini and is located 60 km from Rome. Casperia is entirely pedestrianized, making it unique and charming, the perfect place to find the right size of calm and relaxation, letting yourself be seduced by the stunning landscape and the magic of the small passages, tunnels, arches, alleys, stairways and ladders of the village
  • Michele's place is indeed very tiny. But I would imagine that in the summertime and if you were out a lot, it would be just fine for 1 person. I felt a bit claustrophobic. The upstairs sleeping area was fine and the bed and bedding comfortable. Casperia is a very hilly place and the location of this place was great - not too many stairs to climb except for the ones to the door. Michele's mom met me and was very nice and helpful. However because of its size I would probably not stay there again.

  • Casperia is a wonderful place. michele's house is small, but very cozy!

    Carlos Henrique2016-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and cozy. Casperia is an amazing and beautifull small village. We stayed here one night on our road trip from Rome to Tuscany.

    Helena2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful stay. The place is indeed as cozy, calm and warm as the listing mentions and as the pictures show. It is in a very calm part of the very calm medieval town of Casperia with charming views on the rooftops and sunshine coming in in the morning. The place was made even more welcoming by an equipped little kitchnette with pasta, coffee, beer, biscuits and all you need to make breakfast and other meals!

    Riccardo2015-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Michele's house is small but cute and has everything you need! We have not met him, but he's always been super nice and available to answer all our questions. His mum has very kindly checked us in and even went home to get us a travel iron! Casperia is s beautiful little town and Osteria Vigna, very close to the house, is highly recommended for both food a the great service!!

    Valeria2016-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Michele's apartment was very nice, it was small but comfortable. Very well located, in the centre of the beautiful town Casperia in the beautiful Lazio hills. Would stay there again!

    Martijn2017-08-01T00:00:00Z

You will be astonished by this beautiful 16th century home with its stunning 17th century frescoes. The house is situated in Catino, a charming, well-kept medieval hilltop village of the Sabina Hills. Ideal for relaxing or exploring Rome.
Its stunning 17th century frescoes and original stone walls and ceiling was renovated in 1999 whilst maintaining its original character. It is situated at the top of a village, offering panoramic views of the surrounding areas. This 350m2 house is on two levels and has three terraces overlooking the medieval village. There are 2 living rooms, one dining room, 2 sitting rooms, one study, 5 bedrooms + 2 bathroom, a large kitchen (almost 24m2) with a fireplace.
The Sabina area has to be discovered. Catino is a lively village, facing the Monte Sorrate, you'll have time to enjoy delicious ice creams at the village café. The panorama is unique !! You will be astonished by the rich medieval history unknown of the region. Many 8th century villages, abbeys, monasteries are to be visited Many activities nearby: Swimming in the swimming pool, rivers, waterfalls and lakes Trail rides beside the Tiber, climbing, cycling ... Many architectural sites and medieval villages to visit, Orvieto, the Farnese Palace in Caprarola, underground lakeside town of Rieti, Farfa Abbey dating from the 7th century .. Walks in the forest and surrounding mountains.
  • We had an incredible time at Olgiati's House. Staying here was truly a unique and beautiful experience - like staying in a museum. The countryside is beautiful and the town is very charming. We ended up spending our entire vacation relaxing and enjoying the house and village, and we were already fantasizing about our trip back next year before we left and definitely hope to return!

  • Unique place, like in a 500 years old castle.

    Gerei2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Incredibly charming and unusual, our stay at the Olgiati manor was like a brief visit to the Italian Renaissance period, yet with all the conveniences of modern times, The house's location in Catino enables one to easily visit Rome, the historical town of Orvieto as well as the beautiful countryside of Umbria with its rolling hills and olive orchards. Stephanie, the owner as well as her friendly neighbors are available to give the right advice to each kind of traveller. We highly recommend it!

    Mariko2015-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie's place is unique and fascinating - it has historic and a bit mysterious atmosphere, but it's definitely worth seeing. Stephanie was not there, but she arranged everything for us - we were met and welcomed by a friendly and really helpful neighbour who showed us around, helped book a table at local pizzeria and helped us really much at the day of checkout, when our friend was sick. The place is beautiful and comfortable, but because of its age it has some obvious cons - the thing we struggled with most was temperature; it got really hot before noon and it was hard to cool down before night. Also, the house is located at the top of genuine historic town, so to get there you need to climb a few flights of narrow, quite steep steps - so bringing in luggage or groceries is no joke ;)

Villa in the beautiful Sabina area, just outside Rome. Modern villa with breathtaking views from a mountainside overlooking picturesque hills, villages, olive groves, and Rome - only 1 hour away by car and train. Perfect for a relaxing retreat, or use as a base to explore Rome, the Sabine Hills, Lazio and Umbria. The villa is surrounded by forest and enjoys total peace, quiet and privacy. Great for couples but spacious enough to accommodate up to 5 people + 2 more on a comfy sofabed
WELCOME TO VILLA DEGLI ARMENI A unique holiday rental in the Sabine Hills, near Rome. WHY CHOOSE OUR VILLA? ONE WORD: LOCATION! The views are, literally, breathtaking: perched 500m up on the side of the mountain commanding views across the picturesque rolling hills of the Sabina, distant mountains, the Tiber Valley and on to Rome itself, on a clear day you can see the Dome of St. Peter's on the horizon. The villa is surrounded by forest and enjoys total peace, quiet and privacy. The villa and grounds are for the exclusive use of our guests and are not overlooked by neighbours. It's hard to believe all this is just a little over one hour from the hustle and bustle of Rome, but by choosing Villa degli Armeni you get the best of both worlds. A UNIQUE HOME The villa itself was built in the 1960s and retains many original mid century features like the stone fireplace, lofty gabled ceilings, arches and ironwork. There’s an abundance of windows to let in natural light and to look out on the forest and spectacular views. The villa is full of art and other objects we've collected over the years, we like our guests to feel they are in a real home with its own character and history. SPREAD OUT AND RELAX It's a spacious house capable of hosting a larger party of family or friends as well as being a great relaxing retreat for a couple. Plenty of space means that everyone can find their own private spot, or get together in larger groups for a leisurely meal or chat. The large living and dining room is a cool and comfortable retreat in the summer and the cosy heart of the house in the cooler months, with its stone fireplace. Connected to the living room by double doors is another sitting room and studio, the sofa in here folds out to provide a small double bed if needed. OUTSIDE SPACES A variety of outdoor areas around the villa means you'll always find a sunny spot for sunbathing, or a shady spot for reading, somewhere. Outside on the porch and balcony you’ll find tables and chairs for al fresco dining, deckchairs, a sofa and lounger. Below the house is a grassy area bordering on the forest with another large table. POOL In the summer months (usually mid June to mid September) we put up the frame pool, it’s over 4.5 metres across and 80 cm deep and while hardly olympic size it’s perfect for kids to splash in or for a leisurely float as you contemplate the infinite blue of an Italian sky. BEDROOMS WITH A VIEW There are two large double bedrooms: the one at the front has three arched windows with incredible views to wake up to. The second double bedroom looks out onto the tree canopy and has it’s own ensuite bathroom (with bath) and terrace, it can be set up with a double bed or two singles. In between is a smaller room with 1 single bed, also opening onto the terrace, and another bathroom with a shower. All rooms except the small bedroom have ceiling fans, there is no need for air con. GET COOKING The spacious kitchen is equipped with dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer and state of the art oven, granite worktops, small table and everything you’ll need to cook with.
LOCAL AMENITIES The village of Poggio Catino is 5 minutes drive away, where there is a village shop for staples, a pharmacy, a butcher's shop and, perhaps most importantly, a bar with excellent gelato and outdoor tables to enjoy the view. Supermarkets, other shops and a busy weekly market can be found at Poggio Mirteto, 15 minutes drive away. RESTAURANTS The area is well served with restaurants of all kinds, during your stay you should definitely head further up the mountain to Cisterna where they prepare simple food served at tables under the trees. Also very close is the restaurant Ortobio which is rapidly gaining and excellent reputation for creative cooking using fresh organic ingredients they grow themselves. GETTING INTO ROME 20 minutes drive away is the train station of Poggio Mirteto Scalo. From here trains go regularly into the centre of Rome, a journey of 50 minutes. If you want to visit Rome city centre taking the train means you’ll avoid traffic and parking problems. The same train will take you all the way to Fiumicino Airport, passing Tiburtina (metro connection), Ostiense (Rome pyramid area) and Trastevere, the Rome nightlife centre (change train here for the Vatican). LOCAL ATTRACTIONS Close to home you can enjoy a number of paths through the forest and picnic areas, don’t miss the secluded hermit’s cave Grotta di San Michele. The surrounding area of Sabina is pretty in the extreme, with its rolling hills, woodlands, hilltop villages and olive groves. Two of the prettiest local villages, Casperia and Roccantica are about 15 minutes away but there are many more to explore. In the summer months local villages all hold festivals with music, dancing and most importantly food and wine! Other local sites not to miss include the Farfa Abbey, the Romanesque cathedral at Vescovio, the Tevere Nature Reserve and the Soratte Nature Reserve. DAY TRIPS We've already mentioned that Rome is only an hour or so away. At about the same distance you'll find the picturesque city of Rieti and it's surrounding Franciscan monasteries, Mount Terminillo (skiing!), Viterbo, Orvieto, Terni, Narni, the baroque Monster Gardens of Bomarzo, the Marmora Falls, Tivoli (Villa D’Este and Hadrian’s Villa) or, for a complete change of pace, Rainbow Magicland, one of Italy's leading theme parks.
  • Thanks so much for opening your home to us, we loved the 3 days spending time unwinding before our journey home. I don't think we could have chosen a more relaxing place, browsing the hundreds of books, listening to your excellent music collection and the kids playing in the pool and with all the toys. The house has the feel of a real home, having everything you could possibly need. And has so much space inside and out. The area is stunning, with lots to do and see perfect! • Short version: We will be back. Long version: Awesome 180 degree view from high above the surronding fields and smaller mountains. Private but easily accessible. Clean, and relatively quiet. The pool is clean and okay for cooling down in the summer heat. The Alumentari in Poggio Catina is well stocked and kept us supplied for the week. The house is spacious and can be kept cool if you use the shutters. Great outside areas. Kate is really quick at answering any questions, great host.

  • Our family stayed at Villa degli Armeni for two months, from February to April 2017, and it was absolutely the best time. The house is located on top of a beautiful mountain and the view from the terrace is breathtaking. Barbecue place and sunny weather made our days at the villa even more enjoyable. The house itself is spacious, comfortable and filled with beautiful authentic designs. We fell in love with it at first sight! Special thanks to Kate and her husband for being such wonderful hosts, helping us with any questions we had and for making our stay so easy and relaxed. We really hope to come back to this amazing place again someday!

  • I had the best holiday, Casperia is an amazing and beautiful place, and Alessio's apartment allows to enjoy views from all sides of it! The flat is very clean, comfortable, has all the necessary appliances and even a fireplace (not that i needed it in September). The best feature for me though were the views from two of the bedrooms, simply breathtaking! Alessio is a very kind host, and i felt very welcomed and looked after. He went out of his way to ensure I had a great stay, and even gave me a lift to the train station at early hours! Thank you very much for everything Alessio, I will definitely come back to Casperia and 7 viste apartment! I really highly recommend this place

La Torretta Historical Home is situated in the centre of an authentic medieval Italian village just one hour north of Rome en suite rooms have stunning views gourmet breakfast is served and dinner on request. Easy access to Rome and airport by train
The location is in a panoramic position in an authentic medieval village. The palazzo dates back to the 15th century and features original frescoes from that period. All rooms are en suite and have superb views It is a family run business we live on the premises. We serve a delicious breakfast with local specialities
Our guests love the.peace of the Sabine hills, the quality of the local olive oil, the nearness to the city of Rome, the delight in being in a local community with no large tour groups, the friendliness of the people. They can also access a very nice club at just 1 km from the village wth open air swimming pool and tennis courts and the natural beauty sspots for walkers or for day trips.
  • We stayed with Maureen at La Torretta for four nights. As in the previous review we found Maureen and her husband Roberto to be warm and welcoming. On the first night we arrived late in the evening and Maureen had prepared us a delicious meal which was a lovely surprise. They helped us organise our stay in Casperia and Roberto was even kind enough to drive us to a superb restaurant just out of town which they recommended. After spending a couple of days exploring Rome we found La Torretta was the perfect place to unwind and relax, especially as it is only an hour away (by train and bus). La Torretta is lovely home - you can tell Roberto is an architect and designer - we found it was a really cool place to chillout. Our room was exactly as in the photo - it was spacious and clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view over the Sabine Mountains. Casperia is an authentic and thriving Italian village, all the locals were extremely friendly and it was fun to be part of village life for a short time. We’d defiantly recommend staying here and with Maureen and we certainly will when we’re in the region again.

  • Casperia is a gem in Italy! It's the perfect stop on your way in and or out of Rome. It's georgeous and very peaceful. Maureen and her daughter, Jennifer were so kind and accommodating. The communication was also great. The B&B is beautiful and clean and has epic views. We loved our stay here!

  • La Touretta exceeded all our expectations! We made a last minute booking the day before and couldn't believe how easy it was to get to Casperia - a lovely scenic train ride from Rome arriving at a magical fifteenth century medieval village. Maureen and Roberto's home is exceptional for it's beauty, elegance and warmth. We really felt welcome and completely relaxed throughout our stay. We spent a week at La Toretta and during that time Maureen and her daughter Jenny went out of their way to suggest local trips and sights including a walk to a hill top convent; a day trip to Orvieto; market day at Poggio Morteto; relaxation with yoga, massage and a lovely local pool. Most evenings were spent relaxing, eating and drinking on the terrazza with the locals including a character called Johnny Madge - an olive oil connoisseur who gave us many tastings. What made this trip stand out was the warmth, care and generosity of Maureen, Roberto and their family. We felt really lucky to have found this little jewel of a place and to have spent time with such special people. We will be back!

  • Beautiful area, wonderful hiking, amazing town and fabulous Airbnb! Maureen is fantastic, I can't rate this place high enough!!!

    Amy2015-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Another unique property found on our recent trip, Maureen's place was a very lovely place to stay. Located inside the walls of a medieval hilltop village (no cars inside, and typical steps to and from the parking areas), it is a wonderfully restored and designed property, with much care taken to preserve the original details of the property, including friezes which were uncovered during the restoration. Any afficionado of architecture would love this place. The owners also have some marvelous woodworking on display. There are picture postcard views from everywhere, and breakfast was lovely taken out on the terrace. There are extensive hiking trails all over the area, and Jennifer outlined a wonderful day trip for us to a nearby historical abbey. It was an easy drive from Rome and a really relaxing and peaceful place to end our trip.

Our apartment has been meticulously restored from its 12th century origins and offers guests to share in the delights of Casperia and its strategic location. It is one of the few towns in Europe prohibiting automobiles from the historical centre. Sabina is renowned for its olive oil and local tastings are available. It is possible to enjoy lunch in Rome at the Campo dei Fiori or Trastevere and take an afternoon train back to the calm of Casperia and relax with a glass of local wine while watching the sun go down over the Tiber Valley. You can take cooking lessons or yoga classes. If you wish to explore further afield Florence is 2 hours away while the famous towns of Orvieto and Assisi are significantly less. Sample traditional Italian food including local pizza, all within the area.

Casperia is considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Central Italy, a small jewel. The old town centre, restored in the past two decades, is closed to car traffic. It offers, to the East, a wonderful view over the Sabini mountains and, to the West, it overlooks the Tiber valley and the mount Soratte, known as celebrated by the Latin poet Horace.
  • What a wonderful apartment! It was exactly as described. Although there were no pictures of the kitchen and bathroom, they were in the same style and standard as the rest of the apartment. The terrace was lovely and safe enough for our toddler and baby. The village of Casperia is an authentic and quiet village. Last but not least, Roberto was a good host and made sure we were well received and had every thing we needed. I will not hesitate to recommend this place to friends.

  • Roberto's place is lovely and tidy, the view from the terrace is just stunning. We met Elisa, who was very welcoming and took us to the place. We would definitively come back!

  • Francesca and Roberto have created a perfect location for people who are looking for holidays that are relaxing and provide many opportunities to explore the Sabina region at the same time. We appreciate the well-equipped and tastefully furnished apartment in a beautifully restored building in the old town of Casperia. Although the house is only accessible on foot, we enjoyed the daily walks to the Osteria Vigna, the Pizzeria and the local shops, where you can get all the daily needs. Every day we sat on the terrace and enjoyed the morning sun and the gorgeous view on the mountains. Thanks to the hosts and their assistant Eliza for a great time in Casperia.

  • Roberto very kindly emailed us directions from the Airport to Casperia, they were accurate & easy to follow, he also booked a table for us at a nearby Restuarant. The Apartment was clean, comfortable and with magnificent views. Roberto & his assistant, ELISA were very helpful and attributed to a memorable trip.

  • Like many people who book vacation places through websites like Airbnb we find that the reviews can be more persuading than the photos. So we wish to express here what the photos can't tell you. We stayed in the "Rivellini" apartment for one month. The apartment reflects the creativity and personal attention to detail given by its owners Francesca and Roberto. They have brought together the feeling of being in a centuries old building with all the comforts and conveniences of our time including a state of the art kitchen in which we prepared many wonderful meals. Breakfast was especially fun as we started our day looking out at the panoramic view from the large balcony off the main room. As others have mentioned the apartment is spotless. They have provided everything you need for a comfortable stay, from the crisp white bed linens and comforters to the oversized luxury bath towels. Casperia itself is a romantic medieval hilltop town with winding cobbled stone walkways. There are no cars, there is no street noise. Nights were absolutely quiet except for the occasional dog barking far off on the hillside. There are quite a few medieval hilltop towns in the "Sabina Hills" to explore. Casperia is our favorite. We didn't feel like nor were we treated like tourists. As avid hikers we enjoyed the hilly terrain of the region including the climb from the parking lot to the apartment. It provided the exercise we needed to burn off the fabulous meals we indulged in on a daily basis. But to us the most wonderful part of our stay was the personal attention given by Roberto, Francesca and their assistants. We were treated like old friends who are guests, not tourists. We can say unequivocally that if you want an exceptional experience in the hill towns of the Sabina area then look no further than Francesca and Roberto's "Rivellini"

Il Sogno is a beautifully restored two level home in the medieval village of Casperia, 60 kilometers north of Rome. It has a well-equiped kitchen, two bedrooms with queen size beds, a pull-out sofa bed, a large, full-sized bath and a half bath.
Il Sogno is a lovingly restored home in the peaceful, pedestrian-only medieval village of Casperia, located in the Sabina, just north of Rome. Il Sogno's lower level bedroom and half-bath date to the 11th Cen. and the upper level, where the main living areas are located, dates to the 14th or 15th Cen. Its two-foot thick stone walls keep il Sogno cool in summer and (together with the help of the sub-floor heating system and fireplace in the master bedroom) warm in winter. While il Sogno's old wooden beams, alabaster light sconces and stone and stucco walls afford the perfect backdrop for its many period antiques and original artwork, it was restored with comfort and luxury in mind. The owners live there four months out of the year, and they love to cook, so the kitchen, with Persian marble countertops, is well-equipped. The master bath is large and well-appointed. Il Sogno comes with wireless internet and a TV monitor with a multi-region DVD player. The adjacent garden has a dining/sitting area located under a pergola shaded by a 100 year old grape vine and looking out over roses and lavender, a pomegranate tree and a number of culinary herbs guests are free to use.
The Owners chose Casperia and the Sabina area as their second/retirement home for two main reasons: its quiet beauty and its close proximity to Rome, accessible by train from the nearby station in Poggio Mirteto. As a pedestrian only village, Casperia is quiet and affords a peaceful contrast to the bustling energy of Rome. In addition to easy day trip access to Rome, Casperia is well situated for day trips to the rest of Northern Lazio (Viterbo, Lake Bracciano, Rieti, as well as Umbria (Orvieto, Spoleto, Montefalco, Spello, Assisi, Todi, Perugia), and southern Tuscany (Montepulciano, Pienza, Siena). Skiing is available on nearby Mt. Terminillo, as is hiking in the Sabina Mountains, biking all around the area, and many other activities. Sabina olive oil is the best in Italy -- which means the best in the world -- and area restaurants offer many delicacies based on Sabina DOP oil and other locally-sourced, seasonal products to tempt the discerning palate. You can use il Sogno as a jumping off point for exploring the many opportunities further afield, or stay at home and enjoy the many offerings of the immediate area.
  • Arriving in Casperia was like driving back in time. Walking into Il Sogno after trekking with our luggage up the medieval cobblestone steps winding through the village was like walking into a fairy tale. An ancient dwelling totally modernized with every amenity that you could need. The beds were very comfortable. The water nice and hot. The kitchen was perfect for cooking delicious meals made with local produce, and cheese, and pasta. A wonderful living area with comfortable chairs and lighting for reading. An excellent washing machine right off the kitchen. A rooftop area to sit with morning coffee and gaze upon a breathtaking view. We were met promptly after arriving in the village and Chris our host made himself available to us by email or phone at any hour. One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in is a short walk away. Bring your walking shoes for delicious walks but be very prepared for many steps! Enjoyed every second in this amazing place. Thank you so much Chris for opening your home to us. We hope to return one day soon!!!
