  • This is a superb cottage in a brilliant location. Hawes is an easy walk away (even in snow!) and we had an excellent lunch in the nearby Wensleydale Creamery. Alyson and Andrew have made sure you have everything you could possibly need, and it was wonderful to arrive to cake and tea and a roaring fire after our long drive. It was a wrench to leave and we’d love to come back again.

    Hannah2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage is the perfect Yorkshire stay! So close to Hawes and a really enjoyable walk into its centre. Plenty of different routes to take the dog on. Alyson is lovely and makes the cottage so warm and welcoming, especially with the Christmas decos! We were welcomed with fruit cake and cheese which was an unexpected treat. Thank you Alyson, we can’t wait to visit again!

The addition of the stunning scenes and wildlife made our stay even more enjoyable. The hut was spotless and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

    Daniel2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Zena and Nick were super nice and kind. We had no trouble finding the place despite using public transport only. The place looks exactly like in the picture. During our stay, we had a chance to see the red squirrel every morning from the Hut. It was our first experience staying in the Hut and it was memorable.

    Cindy2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Zena and Nick's place is beautiful. The Shephard's Hut is designed beautifully in natural colours and feels so homey. The hut is located in a woodland, which is stunning and, when we visited, full of vibrant Autumnal colours. There is unforutnately no stove or oven, but the hut does have a toaster and microwave to heat food with. We felt very welcome at Nick and Zena's place, and would love to return in the future.

    Hannah2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Zena & Nick are lovely people and great hosts. There shepherds hut is fantastic and in a beautiful location.

    Willo2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very super place. Wonderful setting. We saw squirrel, pheasant, birds. Close to nature and peaceful. You can walk to the village next to it, where there is a shop and cafe. Zena and Nick were kind and helpful.

    Paul2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home in a lovely setting in the heart of the dales. Lovely stay. Only slight issue is that check in is quite late (4pm) - which meant we had to stay out and about until then. Aside from this, perfect.

    Omar2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage, thoughtfully decorated and full of character. Had everything we needed, super central and great hosts, we’ll definitely be booking again!

    Clare2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • I can not rave about this place enough. The cottage is perfect, we ate at the pub at the bottom of the hill most nights. Then went back to the cottage and relaxed in front of the fire. We have a fiesta and were able to park the car in front of the bench on the hill. If you have a big car I would recommend unpacking on the main road as the hill is STEEP! Thankyou for an amazing stay :)

  • Perfect cottage, lots of space in an amazing location.

    Lucy2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • A great property for exploring the local walks, shops and restaurants. All rooms were a good size with the kitchen well layed out and perfectly usable for cooking meals. Parking is not a problem if you are happy to use the nearby National Parks carpark (£15 for the week) after unloading. We were very happy with the property.

    David2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house and Hawes is a fantastic base to explore the Yorkshire Dales, fantastic cafes and pubs are all in walking distance and the locals couldn’t be more friendly. The log fire and comfy beds provided the perfect place to stay after days exploring local waterfalls, visiting the village playground and eating copious amounts of cheese at the Wensleydale creamery round the corner. A great place to visit any time of the year!

Our cottage is an attractive two bedroomed stone cottage in the small village of Burtersett. The cottage is comfortably furnished with the lounge having a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and a washer dryer. The main bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom provides twin bedded accommodation. The cottage has a downstairs shower room and upstairs there is a further separate WC. Outside is a seating area to the side.
Middlegate Cottage is in an idyllic location where you can truly relax and unwind with your family. This semi-detached holiday property lies in the quiet, peaceful village of Burtersett, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and has been thoughtfully designed especially for holiday makers who wish to explore the area. Guests will enjoy the stunning scenery of this distinctive Dales location. Rolling hills, quaint villages and traditional village pubs are all within easy reach. There are excellent walks close by along the Pennine Way and also trout fishing available locally. The bustling market town of Hawes is a 5-minute car ride where you will find the Dales Countryside Museum and Wensleydale Creamery, home to Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese, along with a varied selection of shops and eateries. Nearby Semerwater, which is a large natural lake, provides a wealth of water activities such as swimming, fishing and sailing. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile. More about the area: It has given its name to one of Britain's finest cheeses, but Wensleydale has so much more to offer. This is the valley of the River Ure, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a popular destination for walkers and hikers. As well as the rolling landscape of the valley itself, Wensleydale is overlooked by the distinctive flat- topped hill of Addlebrough, above the village of Bainbridge and Penhill, which stands guard over Leyburn. Wensleydale's dramatic scenery is dotted with ancient towns and villages, offering a great range of shops, pubs and tea rooms. Hawes, at the head of the valley, is the centre of the famous cheese-making industry and home to the Wensleydale Creamery (a firm favourite with Wallace and Grommit) as well as the famous Hawes Rope Makers, while Hardraw is home to Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England which is accessed through the famous 'Green Dragon' traditional inn. Just a few miles down the road at West Burton you will find the beautiful Cauldron Falls, famously painted by Turner on his trips to 'The Dales'. At Aysgarth, the River Ure tumbles down a limestone staircase at the beauty spot of Aysgarth Falls, famously featured in the blockbuster Robin Hood; Prince of Thieves. Aysgarth also hosts a National Park Centre full with helpful staff and information to ensure that your visit to the area is memorable for years to come. There are many other fascinating towns and villages in the valley; hidden treasures abound as the Ure flows eastwards. Middleham, with its castle, was the childhood home of Richard III while at West Burton, you can visit the famous Cat Pottery. Just a stones throw away you will find the challenging Yorkshire Three Peaks; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough for the more adventurous types and after the hard day exploring the peaks then why not stop off at The Station Inn at Ribblehead Viaduct for refreshment before heading back to the cosy Middlegate Cottage. Although a walker's paradise, tired feet can let the train take the strain with a trip on the Wensleydale Railway. Heritage steam and diesel trains run along 17 miles of line between Redmire and Leeming Bar at the eastern end of the dale. Don't forget the famous Buttertubs Pass, a great walk that leads from Hawes and Hardraw, over a high moorland pass and down to neighbouring Swaledale.
The cottage is situated in the quiet hamlet of Burtersett right in the heart of Wensleydale with the most stunning scenery and just a stones throw away from Swaledale.
  • We stayed in the property in early March. Everything we needed was present for our short stay, which we very much enjoyed, despite the weather. Great walks on your doorstep in the small village of Burtersett, with Hawes only being a short drive. We enjoyed the recommendation to visit the White Hart pub, which we enjoyed. Great communication from the host, Pamela also. Thanks

    Mark2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was just like the photos and as described. It was a great little cottage to spend a bitterly cold weekend in the Dales! The log burner was a brilliant addition and it was very cosy.

    Sarah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage and very accommodating hosts. Great location just outside Hawes, would definitely recommend

    Jack2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time. Would really recommend Pamela’s cottage.

    Rebecca2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was exactly as described and even more spacious than the pictures suggested. Although there are no amenities in Burtersett itself, Hawes is a 5 minute drive or 15/20 minute walk away and has everything you need. The facilities in the cottage were excellent and we cooked both dinner and two cooked breakfasts with no problems at all. Everything was sparkling clean and very cosy. We will definitely consider Pamelas house again in the future!

    Emma-Louise2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Well presented property, everything you could need is provided. Pamela is extremely quick to answer questions and Hawes is a lovely place to spend a weekend.

    Nick2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage close to Hawes which we used as a basis for some great walk. Very cosy!

    Bec2020-01-05T00:00:00Z

Your own private space in a light, modern extension attached to our traditional stone cottage. Set in 24 acres of Wensleydale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Footpaths pass the door leading to the Pennine Bridleway. Six miles from the popular market town of Hawes and half a mile from the Moorcock Inn. King-size bed with ensuite shower room. Two other private rooms to relax in. Large yard to park in. Basic breakfast items provided with toaster and microwave (please note, no cooker).
No smoking. No pets. Tea and coffee making facilities, toaster, microwave, countertop fridge (please note, breakfast room, no cooker). Minimal intrusion but always happy to help. This area is popular with walkers, cyclists and sightseers but remains a quieter part of Wensleydale. Local attractions in the Dales and about an hour drive to Windermere in the Lake District National Park.
Close enough to local cafes, shops and pubs but far enough away to enjoy the wild, unspoilt upland Dales.
  • A warm and comfortable suite of spaces set in bleak wintery landscape. We visited in February. Layout and fittings have been considered carefully, and Debbie and partner are hospitable and friendly. This is an ideal place to escape to whether you want to read quietly or explore the hills.

    Belinda2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Upon our arrival we received a very warm welcome from Debbie and her husband Phil. They seemed genuinely pleased to see us and gave us lots of information about the area and the barn - a lovely personal touch. The barn was immaculately clean and prettily decorated with lots of interesting knick-knacks dotted around the different rooms. Debbie also provided us with milk, bread, yogurt, cereals, teas and coffees in the barn, which we hadn't expected at all. Again, this all added to the feeling that we were well-looked after and welcome visitors to South Lunds. The views from the barn are fantastic and you can be lovely and warm and cosy in the living room and look out at the hills in winter. Debbie is excellent at communicating and provided lots of useful travel updates on the day that we were due to arrive. She answered all messages and questions very quickly. I would highly recommend Debbie's barn to anyone wanting to visit the area, not only for the excellent quality of the accommodation and hospitality, but the barn is well-situated next to lots of public footpaths and is a walker's paradise.

  • Debbie and Phil are such kind and lovely hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The guest suite of their farmhouse was stunning, finished to such a high quality. It was everything and more we could have expected. Set in a very beautiful valley in the Yorkshire Dales, ideal location for a relaxing weekend away. Perfect.....

    Simon2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful property set overlooking a gorgeous valley. Excellent touches and thoughtful items at every turn. We had a fantastic time and look forward to staying again 5/5!

    Christopher2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful night's stay at Debbie and Phil's place and just sorry it wasn't longer. The place was immaculate and very comfortable with everything we needed for a home away from home night away. Exactly what we were looking for and would thoroughly recommend if you are looking for somewhere in the middle of the dales away from the chaos of normal life.

    Sarah2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie’s place is great base for exploring the local area. Debbie and Phil are exceptionally friendly hosts with a warm welcome and excellent knowledge of walks and tourist attractions. We hope to return soon.

    Ailsa2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Debbie's; we so much enjoyed the first that we couldn't wait to come back again. The accommodation is outstanding and Debbie and Phil are very friendly and welcoming. They have hilarious pygmy goats, geese, hebridean sheep and a dog called Bentley all set in a stunning Dales valley with direct access to excellent walking routes. There are plenty of good local pubs offering excellent service and food as well. In short, go and forget urban living for a while.

    Gareth2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a brilliant place, finished to a very high standard. There is plenty of space and everything we could have needed, from wine glasses to maps and books about the local area. We'd definitely stay here again.

The Snug is a quirky character cottage and is located a couple of minutes' walk from the popular pubs, tea rooms and shops in the bustling market town of Hawes. This quaint cottage benefits from an open fire in the lounge, a flagstone flooring on the ground floor, ceiling beams and exposed stone walls giving the cottage a lovely cosy feel. There are 2 double bedrooms and a bath/shower room with separate toilet.
The Snug is a traditional Yorkshire property, built around 1880. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it and have spent time carefully modernising it to make it into an attractive and comfortable place to stay in the lovely market town of Hawes in Wenselydale. Downstairs: Access is through the oak barn door from the front yard, leading you into the 'sung' front room. There is an open fire and we will leave you wood and lighters for your first night. The front room has a TV and DVD player with a lovely old Chesterfield chair to sit and watch the crackling fire. My cottage is positioned on the edge of Burtersett, a tiny, tranquil village set away from the main road in the heart of Wensleydale. It has glorious, far-reaching views across the dale from the sitting room, sitting-out area and main bedroom. Just a 20-minute walk across gorgeous meadows to the town of Hawes and the Pennine Way, it is an ideal centre for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. There are walks in all directions from the cottage itself.
A cosy and comfortable 19th century quarrymen's terrace, the cottage has been recently renovated to a high standard offering tasteful and welcoming accommodation. The sitting/dining room has a flagstone floor and woodburner. There is Wi-Fi, freeview TV and a DVD player. Also on the ground floor are the kitchen and the bathroom, which has both a bath and a fixed shower over. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms. The cottage is heated by oil-fired central heating. Towels are included.
The tiny village of Burtersett is perfectly positioned for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Situated in Wensleydale ("James Herriot country"), it lies just a mile from Hawes and the Pennine Way - a few minutes by car, or just 20 minutes by foot along an old flagstone track across the meadows. Hawes has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. Castle Bolton, Askrigg and Aysgarth Falls are not far by road in the other direction. And there are numerous spectacular upland or valley walks you can make straight from the door of the cottage.

Holme View is lovely three story, stone built town house in the centre of the town of Hawes, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a two minute walk to shops and pubs and some of the best walking and scenery the Dales has to offer.
In the heart of the market town of Hawes, Holme View gives immediate access to shops, cafe's and pubs. In the heart of the Dales, Hawes gives immediate access to some of the best walking and scenery the Yorkshire Dales has to offer. Holme View is let on Airbnb as a Holiday Cottage. It is not a B&B. On the ground floor there is a comfortable sitting room and a well equipped kitchen/dining room where you will find tea bags, sugar, salt and pepper. There are three bedrooms, two with double beds and the third with two singles. There is only one bathroom, which is why the house is listed as accommodating only 4 people. Bed lined and towels are provided as outlined below. Please follow the recycling instructions in the kitchen.
The town of Hawes is a small, classic, picturesque Yorkshire Dales market town. It has plenty of shops, coffee shops and pubs. Hawes is slap bang in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales. From the door, there are a number of lovely walks, including Hawdraw Falls (the highest in England), Gale and Burtersett, These are all gentle walks i.e. flat even ground for the most part. More challenging (steep and rough ground) are also within easy reach of Hawes by foot or short car journey. Hawes is also within 3 miles of the highest Lake in England, Lake Semerwater. There are so many fabulous things to visit and see in the Dales, far too numberous to list here so a visit to the Yorkshire Dales National Park website and the Hawes Community/Tourist office is highly recommended.
  • Fab house, perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales right from the house. Paul was really helpful, popped to see us on arrival to check all ok and told us not to rush on day of leaving as we had 6 inches of snow overnight. We really appreciated the late check out as it gave us longer for our stay. Would highly recommend Holme View, lovely house, lovely location.

  • Nice three-storey private house in a small courtyard in the middle of a town with plenty of pubs and coffee shops (and an eco-shop). Everything in the house was easy to find and easy to work. Bathroom has a heated towel rail. Clear arrival instructions and the lights (and heating) were on when we arrived - very welcoming after a long journey!

  • This is a great place to stay in the middle of Hawes. It’s well-equipped and a great location, with shops, pubs etc right on the doorstep. We stayed for a week with 10 month old twins and Paul couldn’t have been more helpful to get things set up for us, with great communication.

  • Clean and comfortable accommodation with all the facilities you need as a base to explore the Dales. Its in a great location with access to the shops and a great range of pubs offering food. If you are wanting to eat out I would recommend you book as the better establishments get filled up quickly. We ate at The Crown, which was great and we were also recommended the White Hart Inn just around the corner.

Superb character cottage located close to the infamous Coal Road & Dent Railway Station. The Sportsman's Inn is an easy 10 - 12 minute walk away. Cosy living room with a range fire, spacious kitchen diner with an electric cooker, fridge & dishwasher. There is a large fridge freezer in the utility room with a 2nd ground floor wc. There are three double bedrooms, all upstairs with a family bathroom. The 3rd double bedroom is on the 2nd floor & has its own lounge area.
Great location close to the bottom of The Coal Road which is the access road to Dent Station - the highest altitude railway station in England. This semi detached cottage with private parking offers lots of interior space & is a great base to explore both The Yorkshire Dales National Park & the nearby Lake District National Park. The Sportsman's Inn is a short walk along the quiet road that runs alongside The River Dee.
  • Fantastic cottage in lovely quiet area with a lovely master room and bed and smaller double. 2nd floor is a loft attic with games and football table which our kids loved. Plenty to do and see near by or stay in with the family. Kitchen is filled with useful cooking equipment if you plan on eating in (which we did) Although dent station is a walk away its up quite a steep winding hill which we didn't attempt with young children. We parked at the station no issues and to the train to a number of places. We didnt manage to get to the sportsman pub but called at the sun inn in Dent (10 min drive) a couple of times which was great. We would love to visit again sometime in the future.

  • Wray Rigg is a lovely cottage situated in beautiful surroundings and convenient for walks in the Dales and trips to the Lake District. The place was clean and cosy, lovely decor and everything we needed. I was in the smallest room and found my bed a little hard but none of my friends had issues with theirs. Peter gave us all the information we needed for our stay beforehand and checking in was easy. Excellent value for money especially as we booked on fairly short notice!

  • This is a terrific hideaway set in beautiful countryside. Walks across the stunning Dales from your doorstep, anyone looking for a break from city life will love it here. The working fireplace makes the barn cosy in the evenings and the shower is amazing after a long walk! Terri was a super host, quick to respond and even left us fresh eggs and homemade bread when we arrived. Would definitely recommend the 2 mile walk across the fields to the local pub the Rose and Crown for a true Yorkshire experience!

  • Beautiful barn, fabulous location and amazing host! The views are incredible, you truly do feel away from it all and so peacefully relaxing. The barn is gorgeous, we really enjoyed the snooker table and having a glass of wine in front of the roaring fire. Terri was a fantastic host, very accommodating and quick to reply. The homemade bread, fresh eggs and milk were a very sweet and welcoming gesture. Can’t wait to be back in summer, loved this place! Great location for walking with the dogs. Thanks again for everything Terri!

  • What a lovely place for some respite from the Christmas festivities. The accommodation was beautiful and in such a striking part of Yorkshire which is great for R&R and walking. Good advice given by Terri on walking , things the do and places to eat. Terri was a great host and nothing was too much trouble for her, her kind personality shone through which made our stay away from home even better. The bread, eggs and milk are a great touch that was appreciated by ourselves and the cosy fire was just what was needed after a days walking, our dog appreciated the heat also !! Thanks again and we wouldn’t hesitate to book next time we visit Yorkshire, it was like a home from home .

  • Ow do? The Owl Barn is an outstanding place to stay, to unwind completely, and in my case, to also produce some original writing... which was very easy since the property is located in the most amazing, and peaceful Yorkshire Dales countryside. It snowed in the late afternoon when I arrived at the property. As soon as I unpacked my things I had to have the first of many walks from the Owl Barn, even though the Dales were darkening under the heavy snow shower, with night falling around me. There were large snowflakes floating past me as I tramped through the mud, but the landscape scenes around me at twilight were to die for - absolutely breathtaking and memorable! Which also describes Terri, the owner - not breathtaking, but memorable! Her welcome makes you feel you've known her for years, and she will do everything to make sure your stay is magical. You will devour the loaf of bread and her own hens' eggs she leaves you - they are absolutely delicious! Basically, what I am asking you to do... is definitely stay there! Enjoy the properties unique atmosphere, Terri's outstanding welcome, and have a wonderful, unforgettable time in the Yorkshire Dales. Peter

There are some lovely little touches, and would highly recommend a breakfast (we had the cold option). We felt instantly welcome and the hit was already toastie warm from the log burner, which was welcome given the cold outside! Many thanks Melanie, hope to see you again some time soon, Chris and Rona.

  • We had a lovely stay in beebole cottage, very cosy with a lovely log fire in a really picturesque setting. Anna could not have been more helpful too

  • Anna's place is a small cosy cottage in a tiny hamlet in the beautiful Yorkshire dales. The place is perfect for 2 and has everything you need. It's a 5 minute drive from wensleydale where you can go for some beautiful walks and visit the creamery. I'd highly recommend the green dragon pub next to the waterfall in Hardraw

    Ross2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful and has everything we could’ve needed. Anna’s visitor book has so many suggestions of things to do nearby and further away. The location is in a quiet area and very close to some fantastic views. We loved our stay and would highly recommend for those looking for a relaxing, quiet getaway!

  • Cozy cottage with centuries of fascinating history and a great log burner. It is extreemly quiet and tranquil but not too far to drive to Hawes - a town where we found everyone we met to be friendly.

    John2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beebole Cottage was everything we were hoping for and more. it was a little safe and comfortable haven, even when storm Ciara arrived. The living room is small but perfect and cosy and the log fire was such a treat. The kitchen is super well equipped and the bedroom is lovely with an excellent bed and mattress. It was so quiet as its on the ground floor so we couldn't even hear the rain. It's a beautiful location, a few minutes walk from Lake Semerwater and 10 minutes drive from Hawes. Anna was very reactive and answered us so quickly and helped us during the storm on Sunday. We were so grateful that Anna was so considerate and offered for us to stay over when the weather was dangerous. what a perfect host!

  • Beebole Cottage is a wonderful couples’ hide-away in a particularly stunning area of England. It’s a great base for going walking - we loved going on the walks suggested in the books provided in the cottage - and also a great place to nest and relax with books, by the fire. The cottage had everything that we could possibly need too, making it the perfect accommodation for a mini-break for two!

    Sarah2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage perfect for two people. Set in a rural location with excellent walks and amenities close by in Hawes. Great communication from the owner. Everything was as we expected and cottage was very clean. Located in Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Brooks Barn is a one bedroom self contained apartment 1.2 miles away from the picturesque village of Dent. If you like walking, relaxing, or sampling real ales, this is the perfect getaway. We look forward to welcoming you.
The apartment is part of the main house, but has its own private entrance. It has an open plan kitchen and lounge, bathroom with shower, and a bedroom with double bed. There is also a sofa bed for extra guests, but it would be very cosy if four adults were staying. It is perfect for couples and young children.
Dentdale is at the western end of the National Park. The dale's steep-sided valley contrasts beautiful flower-filled meadows and lush riverside pastures with the sparser grassy upland of the fells. Dent station Dent station, the highest mainline station in England and part of the Settle-Carlisle railway, offers a great overview of the valley as it connects Ribblesdale in the south with the Eden Valley in the north. Impressive viaducts at Dent Head and Arten Gill carry the railway above the Dale before plunging into long, dark tunnels at either side of the dale. Dent village At the top of Dentdale lies Cowgill and Stone House. These small hamlets have between them, a fine chapel, a pub - the Sportman's Inn. Further down the valley lies the main town - Dent. Here you will find a village shop, pubs - the Sun Inn and George and Dragon - and cafés such as Stone Close Café. June sees Dent bursting at the seams as visitors flock to the annual Dentdale Music & Beer Festival. From Dent, the River Dee then continues on its journey westwards to meet the River Rawthey close to Sedbergh. Walking and cycling Dentdale offers great walking including the Dales Way which follows the river and some superb higher level traverses such as the Occupation Road above Dent. The quiet roads in the valley are also a great introduction to cycling in the area.
  • This is my first experience of booking via Airbnb and I cannot say enough good things about Brooks Barn and the lovely owners, Martin and Kendra. I booked this 2 night break for my daughter's 27th birthday, just something different even though we knew the weather wouldn't be brilliant. We managed to float through the floods and reach the Barn with spot on directions from Martin, who had text to say he would pick us up from the village if we couldn't get through in our car (but we managed) He even offered to help us unload despite the pouring rain. The barn itself is gorgeous, lovely furniture and plenty space for me, my daughter, granddaughter and our big dog, Sam. The lovely touches of wild flowers, milk, fruit juice and water in the fridge and an extra special touch for Meg's birthday. The view is so nice and it was just the best place to stay for quiet break but local to other places to visit. We went to Aysgarth Falls and Hawes while we were there and on one evening drove to the Haddock Paddock in Sedburgh for fish and chips which were still hot when we got back to the barn. I would highly recommend Brooks Barn to anyone, it really is lovely and we didn't want to leave. The bed is so comfy and like sleeping on a cloud. The WIFI is good and it was nice to be able to snuggle up and watch Netflix in the evening. A little mention about Luke, the beautiful dog who welcomes you with his rope toy to play. A massive thank you to Martin and Kendra for a lovely weekend in your gorgeous barn; we hope you'll let us come back again to enjoy your beautiful part of the countryside.

    Christine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

The village of Bainbridge is located on the A684 between Leyburn and Hawes, near the meeting of the river Bain with the River Ure. At around two and a half miles in length the River Bain is said to be the shortest river in England. Bainbridge is known for its expansive village green which has some fine examples of stocks. Stocks were abolished as a form of punishment in the United Kingdom in 1872. The Roman name for Bainbridge was Virosidum and the remains of a Roman Forte are located just east of Bainbridge, on the other side of the river, on Brough Hill, where various Roman remains have been found A local custom in Bainbridge is the sounding of an ancient horn which was once used to guide foresters and travellers safely to the village from the surrounding Wensleydale forests. The horn is still located at the Rose and Crown public house and is sounded every night at 10 pm from the Feast of Holy Rood (27 September) to Shove Tuesday. Bainbridge has a local inn (the Rose and Crown), a small village shop with post office, a local butcher, a garage selling logs, sweets and newspapers, and a café (Mill house Tea room). There are other small shops, tea rooms and places to eat in just over a mile away in Askrigg. An equestrian centre offering riding lessons and local trekking can be found a short distance away at Gill Edge.

Cotterdale is a small side dale and hamlet on the north side of Wensleydale in North Yorkshire, England. The dale lies to the west of Great Shunner Fell. It is drained by East Gill and West Gill, which between them have nine waterfalls. They join to form Cotterdale Beck, which flows over three more waterfalls, including Cotter Force, below which the beck joins the River Ure. In the heart of Wensleydale, a beautiful walk from Cotterdale, lies the gem of a waterfall by the name of Hardraw Force behind the hamlet of Hardraw. At just under 100 feet it is England's highest, unbroken, single drop waterfall. Hawes, 3.5 miles from Cotterdale, is a delightful Dales village of mellow stone buildings, shops and houses, linked by cobbled streets. At one end you will find the Wensleydale Creamery where you can sample the famous Wensleydale cheese as well as enjoying a bite to eat surrounded by a stunning Dales landscape. Aysgarth Falls are a triple flight of waterfalls surrounded by woodland and farmland, carved out by the River Ure over an almost one-mile stretch on its descent to mid Wensleydale near the village of Aysgarth. The falls are quite spectacular after heavy rainfall as thousands of gallons of water cascade over the series of broad limestone steps, which are divided into three stages: Upper Force, Middle Force and Lower Force. Bolton Castle, in the village of Castle Bolton, is a notable local historic site. Building of the structure was begun by Richard le Scrope, Lord Treasurer and Lord Chancellor to Richard II, in 1378. The building was finally completed in around 1399.

Cubble Head is a lovely Grade 2 listed 18th century farmhouse with panoramic views in Burtersett, a traditional Dales village just 1.5 miles from the bustling market town of Hawes. It is peacefully situated on a back road high above the valley. The cottage has been sympathetically and fully restored with taste and passion and now blends traditional charm such as beamed ceilings, solid oak ledged and braced doors and a log fire, with all modern conveniences.
There are 4 bedrooms, including a superking size bed (6 feet wide, 6 feet 3 inches long) all with high quality bed linen from John Lewis and 2 separate bath / shower rooms. Downstairs, there is a lovely oak breakfast kitchen, a beautiful living room with beamed ceiling and a separate dining room so the cottage is spacious for a family. Cubble Head has a garden and paddock of 0.75 acres with 3 separate outdoor areas to sit and enjoy the sun and a glass of wine and, of course, the amazing views – you can see for miles.
The Yorkshire Dales are a wonderful area and Wensleydale is the 'queen of the dales'! There are fantastic views from the cottage, walks in every direction and lovely villages, waterfalls and castles to explore. Burtersett is a peaceful, timeless village, set on a slight hillside above the Wensleydale valley road. The name means high pasture and the fields around the village are still full of grazing sheep. The road through the village winds past pretty cottages and continues to Lake Semerwater, famed by geologists for its Ice Age relics and now enjoyed by canoeists and swimmers. Cubble Head is situated on the outskirts of Burtersett. From Burtersett, there is a lovely walk on a paved pathway through meadows to Hawes, about 1.5 miles away. The path was paved so that the Minister could walk from Hawes to the chapel in Burtersett without getting his robes muddy! Hawes is the highest market town in England and a place of real character. It has cobbled streets and a weekly street market. There are many small shops and several excellent pubs, cafes and tearooms. The local sheep market is well worth a visit and there are other unique attractions such as the Dales tourist museum, a ropemaker, a working watermill and of course the world famous Wensleydale Creamery where real Wensleydale cheese is made 6 days a week. You can watch the cheese being made and then sample the results in the Creamery shop and cafe. The Pennine Way runs through Hawes and there are walks in every direction - along the river, up the hills, over to Swaledale. The famous 3 Peaks of Yorkshire (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) are just a short drive away as are the market town of Leyburn and Richmond and Fountains Abbey - a world heritage site.
  • A warm welcome to a beautiful location awaits anyone who stays at Cubble Head. The views out the kitchen window are worth it alone, but the house is also a perfect and super comfortable base from which to explore the Dales. We even got to meet some of the locals, and got a friendly welcome from them too.

  • Cubble Head is a wonderful place to stay. The hosts are wonderful and all the communications were perfect. You will want for nothing in this beautiful house. Location wise this house is in a really beautiful setting. The views from the windows are picture perfect. Shops and pubs are just up the road, minutes by car and very doable for the walkers. I would recommend this place whole heartedly, you will thank me! Did I mention the amazing welcome hamper and fresh flowers in nearly every room.
