Vacation Rentals in Rensselaerville

Just booked in Rensselaerville

A mixture of early attic and cool re-purposed treasures, this quiet, quaint Cabin overlooks our 8 acre lake. Skylights & starshine reconnect you to the natural world. Wonderful for relaxation, peaceful exploration, fishing, artist or writers retreat
This cabin has a glassed in porch overlooking the lake, complete with rocking chairs. Loft, open living area and half bath. Bathroom has a composting/camping toilet, full bath is in main building, a short walk from the cabin. Water containers with pumps provide fresh well water in the kitchen and the bathroom for drinking and washing. The cabin is also equipped with a small refrigerator, a toaster oven, electric kettle, a double burner cooktop and French press. This cabin is cute and funky with lots of charm! We have puzzles, games, cards etc for those that like to play and a large library of books in our main building that you can borrow during your stay. Wi-Fi is also available in the main building, for checking email, getting directions etc. We are constantly upgrading and improving our cabin -- new artwork, bedding, general coziness and fun stuff! Please note, this is a cabin in the woods and there are wild creatures that live here. There is always a chance that one of these small beings can find their way into the cabin, if this is a problem for you please do not book the cabin. We have other listings that may be better suited to your needs. Please contact us about them. We do suggest that you put all food and drink away as leaving these items out can attract creatures to the building. 90 acre Holistic Retreat Center and Organic Farm (Garden of One). Full bath and other amenities in main building, a short walk from the cabin. The cabin is available year round, it has a rocket stove mass heater. Please note: We provide wood for heating the cabin, but it must be chopped down to kindling size for use in the rocket stove. We have a special tool for this that we leave for our guests. Be sure to bring whatever gear you need to be comfortable outside while using it. Cabin can accommodate up to 5 people, there’s a queen bed, beanbag bed in the loft and a single futon bed. A cot can be set up in the living room area ($20 additional per nite/per extra person over 2) Also, please consider your pet as another person and add $10 per nite for your fur baby! We are working farm, and sometimes have animals that need short term special care. So you may find a baby chicken, turkey, duck, pig or rabbit nestled in a box or tub inside the main building. Most often you will be able to interact with them but please ask first! We use all organic and natural cleaning products and methods in all of our rentals, private and public space. Lovely swim-able private lake, forest & gardens. Canoeing, fishing and hiking available on our property. Full organic meal plans offered separately (and we are happy to pack a lunch for you if you're going to be out and about) -- can accommodate gluten & dairy free and most specialized diets. Please make arrangements ahead of your stay for any meals you would like us to provide. We also offer picnics (with a real basket and everything!) that you can have on site or take on your travels (again, by prior arrangement). Sauna, Ionizing Foot Bath and private sessions (massage, reiki, ear coning, health consults and more) also usually available, please ask for our fee schedule and plan ahead.
Very rural, even though we are only 25 miles from Albany, NY the capital of NYS. Quiet and peaceful, in fact you will probably not see any neighbors at all. Near Albany, Berne, Cobleskill, Greenville, Oak Hill, Middleburgh, Schoharie, Westerlo, Windham
  • I had a transformational visit at Rachel's. The cabin sits secluded on a beautiful lake and offers beautiful views, seclusion, peace, quiet, and time to rest, relax, and recharge. Rachel and Brian are warm and gracious hosts, and have thought of everything to make your stay a memorable one. They also have many tips and suggestions for area sights and explorations. If you are looking to unplug, recharge, and reconnect with yourself and nature, you've found your spot. The Garden of One is truly a gem.

  • Rachel & Brian's place was a welcomed retreat away from our big city lives. The cabin is adorable and pristinely clean. The view of the lake and access to the main house & small trails is perfect! It is quite cold in the cabin, especially at night, but there was an abundance of blankets and sheets for us to get wrapped & cozy with, and Brian checked on us to make sure we had enough wood to burn through the rocket stove as much as we'd like. Though the cabin's kitchen is really a small toaster, a water cooler, and a hot plate, it can be a very workable setup if you'd like to cook the basics. Brian also made some great local recommendations for dining out. The animals on the property are awesome- their dogs were initially shocking to see with such energy & their size, but they're the sweetest pups, and welcomed my dog easily into their pack. The farm animals are friendly, interactive, and adorable. We found no phone service at and in about a 15-20 minute driving radius of the home (Verizon does have minimal service there), but we found it WONDERFUL to have the opportunity to disconnect. We didn't get to meet Rachel, but her communication was perfect, offering directions knowing we'd lose our service getting there, very flexible with our arrival time, and even checking in along the way with our travels. While you should definitely know that there isn't running water (two 5-gallon jugs are supplied with a pump in both the kitchen area & the bathroom & refilled when necessary), there is a composting toilet, and minimal electrical access, so it may seem a bit "rustic" to some, we all came to realize and appreciate how forward-thinking and environmentally friendlier their lifestyle is than what we generally live in the city. I think it's a great experience for everyone to have!

  • Rachel and Brian were the most gracious hosts! They really went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. We loved the cabin, they had gone to great lengths to add charming details everywhere. We really enjoyed using the rocket stove, and stayed quite cozy. The forested setting was very beautiful as well. We had several meals with Rachel and Brian, they are spectacular cooks! They even sent us home with a fresh baked loaf of bread! We would love to come back again!

  • What a rustic jewelbox of a cabin. Nestled amidst fiery golden woods (we happened to be there at prime leaf-peeping time in October) and overlooking the most blessed, tranquil blue lake. Rachel and Brian were lovely and accommodating -- as well as their welcoming committee (the dogs!) If visiting in the cooler months, I would say make sure to get the rocket stove warmed up upon arrival as you might be a bit chilly otherwise. It's a bit more "glamping" like than expected (aka I discovered what a composting toilet was!) but was overall a really charming experience. The grounds and setting were top-notch, really made the stay.

    Jess2015-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a phenomenal stay in the cabin! Rachel was extremely helpful and really went above and beyond to create a warm and welcoming experience. The grounds were breathtaking - definitely take advantage of taking the canoe out on the lake! The cabin itself was beautiful; every detail was clearly carefully taken into account. The rocket stove was a piece of art! Definitely could not recommend it enough - can't wait to stay again soon!

  • My partner and I had a lovely stay at Rachel and Brian's cabin. It's quiet and beautiful and has everything you could possibly expect for a cabin without running water (big pumps!) and with only limited electricity (battery-powered lights!). We were very cozy, and it was easy to get to fun hikes and things to do in nearby little town. We had two delicious breakfasts made by Brian, and loved meeting the pups! We'd definitely stay here again!

    Alison2017-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at this beautiful cabin. It was just as pictured and Brian was incredibly hospitable and Rachel responsive. It was pretty cold, so I would recommend possibly bringing a space heater - but we would love to come back when the weather is warmer! Thanks to you both!

    Jenny2016-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly secluded cabin near the town. Rachel & Brian were very welcoming and the main building with the farm is also very charming. Nala and Zandra (the dogs) are adorable and the lake is amazing too. Great escape from New York!

This is a wonderful place for quiet contemplation and close proximity to nature for a couple or a solo adventurer- a charming 2 bedroom artist's home set on the edge of a Nature Preserve which provides a peaceful & inspiring setting. The landmarked village of Rensselaerville is just a few minutes away on foot with a wonderful library and homes from the 18th & 19th c. The Huyck Preserve & Lake Myosotis for swimming and hiking are nearby. Farmland and wooded hills surround the hamlet.
The house is situated just a few feet from a quiet road, with a parking space directly across from the front door. This makes it easy to pack and unpack from the car. The town of Hudson is 45 min. East on the other side of the river which has many shops, restaurants, antiques and art galleries. Albany & suburbs are also about 30 miles away.
The historic hamlet of Rensselaerville has some fine examples of 18th & 19th century architecture and has obtained landmark status with the State of NY. The Presbyterian Church & Conkling Hall sit squarely in the center of the village where services and community events take place. The Rensselaerville Library is at the heart of the village. The entrance to the Huyck Nature Preserve and Falls is at the far end of town with trails leading up to Lake Myosotis. The lake and the Carey Center for Global Good are at the top of Pond Hill Rd. The lake offers a picnic and family swimming areas. Lectures and music events, as well as weddings and social events take place on the grounds here. There is a craft brewery on this property as well! My house sits at the edge of the Nature Preserve, so the back of the house offers a private view of a wooded glen. All variety of birds and small animals as well as deer and turkey pass through this sanctuary.
  • Peter has a lovely house located on a quiet country road that leads into the hamlet of Rensselaerville. The back patio looks out onto an expansive yard and a nature preserve, and we ate all of our meals out there, watching the birds and taking in the restful scenery. Peter also has an amazing eye, and the house is filled with his collection of paintings, drawings and beautiful objects. There's a wonderful swimming lake that's a five minute drive from his house, and it's also surrounded by well-marked hiking trails. Peter was a gracious host and was very responsive to our questions. Highly recommended.

  • Peter's house in Rensselaerville is completely charming. It is extremely quiet there, which I especially love. You feel close to nature and in tune with the elements. The house itself has all the romance of the 19th century and the comforts of today. It is extremely beautiful inside, full of gorgeous and interesting pieces of furniture and objects of art, but it is also homey and comfortable. Peter is a gracious host, and his home is a treasure and a great escape.

  • Had a great time in the yurt. Rachel and Brian were great hosts! They are so friendly and very helpful for your stay. The yurt itself fit 3 of us perfectly and it was a very refreshing experience. The property itself is beautiful and all the animals make it even better. One note to those visiting in the future is to make sure you have good bug spray as the yurt is most definitely off grid and in the woods. Overall we had a great time!

    Kelly2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a dream come true for me- living in a yurt, in the woods, by a lake, and off the grid, and be rejuvenated by the energy from the wild life, the sun and surrounding greens- and I will certainly return for more! I didn't get to meet Rachel but Brian had been a most accommodating and pleasant host. Both were very communicative and made sure I received the clearest instructions to get there and enjoy the area. I got to experience their delicious all natural cooking as well and learn a bit more about life in the country. The surrounding land was beautiful and wild, and the yurt simple, private and cosy. To truly enjoy everything about the experience, one must be prepared to go back to basics and appreciate the wonders of unplugging and engaging w your ecology. Thank you Rachel and Brian for creating and delivering such an amazing and much needed experience!

  • Rachel and Brian were so friendly and accommodating. They have an amazing farm and couldn't have made us feel more welcome. The yurt was comfy and cozy and a perfect size for two people. The hiking and vistas in the area are beautiful. It was a perfect escape for the weekend!

  • Beautiful property, perfect to relax and enjoy nature. We stayed at The Yurt, which is an ideal place to disconnect, read a book and sleep peacefully - close enough to the main house, but far enough to feel isolated among the trees. Rachel and Brian are really super hosts! They were very attentive and nice people over all. Will definitely come back!

    Gabriela 2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • It was such a great experience! Rachel is super knowledgeable about all things medicinal, food and plants. Her garden is really beautiful and the property was a treat to wake up to. The yurt was really comfortable and great for "glamping." Would recommend for anyone that wants an off-the-beaten path kind of experience.

    Lauren2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was wonderful !!! Everything is as described, the Yart is very cozy and intimate. Brian was wonderful and so attentive to everything that we needed. Highly recommended!

    Nora2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was great staying at the yurt! We had a wonderful time! Brian was super nice to us. I also recommend the breakfast, which includes fresh-baked bread, yoghurt and omelette! A beautiful place to stay, especially if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle in the city.

    Annette2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A whole lot of WONDERFUL!! If you are seeking a unique, relaxing and beautiful experience this is a place to find it!! We (my husband and 4.5 yr old son) enjoyed EVERY part of our stay at Rachel and Brian's: "yurting", canoeing, visiting farm animals, hiking, lake swimming, wandering around the fairy forrest and labyrinth walking. We took the 3 meal/day food plan and had amazingly delicious and varied farm fresh healthy meals which included homemade breads, including gluten free options (I have Celiac disease). Moreover, they were able to deal with our son's somewhat picky eating habits ... they even got him to try fresh cooked red beets and he loved them!! Thank you, Rachel and Brian, for being such gracious and thoughtful hosts. Side note: If you want a change up to your idyllic days at Brian and Rachel's there are many terrific places to visit around the Rensselaerville (a lovely little hamlet) area. Brian and Rachel were super knowledgeable and helpful on this front as well.

Dormered ceilings, a stone wall and a lovely antique bed overlooking the forest make this a snug room for those wanting respite from the hustle and bustle of the world. A wonderful place to relax, read, write, create... and 90 acres to explore.
This room is spacious and yet cozy, with eastern facing windows (for those that like to sleep in the morning). One wall is all stone, a continuation of the 12 foot hearth in the downstairs "great room". There are 2 Double beds, one a lovely antique with a curved foot board. Our main building is is 4000 sq ft, with a great room (7 couches), views of the lake from almost every room, 2 full baths, FIR sauna and more. We are a 90 acre Holistic Retreat Center and Organic Farm (Garden of One). The "end" room is available year round, we heat with wood and a rocket stove mass heater so things are always toasty. We are at a 2000 ft elevation which makes for lovely cool sleeping weather, even in the heat of the summer. Lovely swim-able private lake, forest & gardens. • Rachel and Brian are amazing hosts! I didn't get to meet Rachel but communicated with her before the stay and she was very helpful. Brian was very welcoming and kind to us, even though we arrived very late and were pretty exhausted the whole time. He made us breakfast both mornings and it was so delicious- frittatas, eggs, grilled vegetables, homemade bread, homemade goat cheese...amazing! The place is quite remote (for a city girl) and if you are driving there at night, you really have to watch for deer and drive slow on the country roads but they gave us very detailed directions and we had no issues. They have three large dogs, who are very loving, but you definitely need to like dogs if you stay in their home. Also, there are two bathrooms, but if the house is full, you may need to wait to use the restroom or take a shower. All in all a wonderful place to stay- the property is beautiful and relaxing, and the hosts are so kind and hospitable, not to mention- just cool. :)

  • I loved staying at Garden of One. Rachel and Brian were excellent hosts. I spent the weekend staying at their place and it was great. They were both very communicative and caring. The place was surrounded with positive energy. The nature is superb. Please do take a walk around the pond sitting next to the place. Also you might consider having food from them. Brian was a great cook and everything he made was delicious. Also their dogs, Nala, Zend and Rudi were extremely friendly. I plan on returning back sometimes soon to witness the Fall.

    Arber2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • I met up with a good friend of mine, Janette, at Rachel’s for a weekend of relaxation away from the kids, and good conversation. I had read many of the numerous reviews on AirB&B about Rachel’s place, and it looked like a good choice for a reasonable price. Despite the glowing reports from others, our personal experience was somewhat different. Rachel and Brian were very friendly hosts, and were both present to welcome us when we arrived. I don’t eat meat, and Rachel accommodated this by making us a fabulous vegetarian dinner and dessert. They also generously handed over the recipe for their bread that we had been raving about. Their house is located in a lovely spot nestled next to a small lake, and they have an adorable smattering of livestock, including a small herd of goats and several friendly ponies. Unfortunately, we feel like the AirB&B posting was a bit of a misrepresentation of reality. The post admitted that dogs were on the property, and allowed inside the house, and both my friend and I were fine with this. I am a dog person, and own two large ones. However, their dogs, sweet as they are, were allowed everywhere, including the bedroom where we stayed. Having free reign of the farm, they were dirty and…fragrant. The result was that the entire house, including our bedding, smelled like wet dog. The largest of the two dogs, a Mastiff I believe, jumped on my friend's car upon arrival, leaving muddy footprints, and then jumped on her, nearly knocking her down. The dogs promptly greeted me as well, almost trying to crawl in my car with me as I tried to get out. Some restraint on the dogs would have been appreciated and appropriate. We had originally planned to stay two nights, but felt compelled to leave after only one. My friend suffers from asthma and a heart condition, and woke up after the first night wheezing. It happened to be a hot, humid week in New York, so the lack of air conditioning was stifling, but I don’t hold this against our hosts as it was clearly stated on their site. However, the mix of the heat, cloying dog aroma, lack of mowing outside the house, and the dank mustiness of much of the interior of the house concerned us too much to risk staying an additional night; I did not want my friend to end up with another bout of respiratory issues and potentially stress her heart more. I explained to Rachel that we would be leaving because of my friend’s breathing issues, but we didn’t ask for a refund for the second night, and paid the balance for our meals. Rachel, I feel, rather inappropriately tried to engage my friend in homeopathic treatments for her asthma. We finally had to put a hard stop to the conversation by telling her that my friend was under the care of a cardiologist and it would remain that way. We are...

  • Garden of One holistic Center, and Rachel and Brian, were just what I needed. The place is abundant; with the love these two have for each other, for health, for their gardenspot and for the earth. I looked forward each afternoon to the drive out to the beautiful, colorful quiet place I was lucky to lodge. Their garden is a farm too, so not just overflowing herbs and medicinals and flowers everywhere but happy goats, rescue horses, two big, friendly, slobbery dogs, ducks and geese and chickens, contented pigs and tons of hummingbirds and dragonflies. If you need an earthy, secluded, healthy retreat, this is your place.

  • Rachel and her husband Brian made us feel very welcome. As described, the setting is a working farm and is remote, which we appreciated. The bedroom was as described, very clean and quiet. Good quality linens. The bathroom was clean with fresh towels. They were very welcoming to our dog as well, who got along well with their two large but very friendly dogs. We chose to have our meals at the house, so we got to know Rachel and Brian a bit, and we enjoyed learning the history of the house and all the work done with the plants and animals on the farm. We were spending our days hiking so were happy to have them cook for us - wonderful fresh ingredients prepared lovingly. Looking forward to going back!

  • First let me say that Rachel and Brian and genuine and honestly nice people. They are very accommodating and interested in their guests. They make delicious food and are more than willing to accommodate multiple dietary restrictions with food that continues to be not just healthy but flavorful as well. The downside...this house is being used as a workshop of sorts and is not clean and bright as the photos show. There are books and other clutter on most surfaces and a layer of dust on everything. In addition, while humans are asked to remove their shoes, there are three large dogs wandering in and out through an open door throughout the day who are tracking in dirt and odors. Brian also refrained from wearing a shirt one of the days we were there, despite being responsible for preparing breakfast for the guests. The WiFi in the house only works if you are in the dining area which is too small to accommodate many guests and is not a comfortable area for relaxing together. Overall, it was okay. It was a retreat for our hiking excursion and a great place to eat. I just wish that the atmosphere had been more spa like.

  • Brian was an excellent host! The grounds are beautiful and serene. The atmosphere is like being with friends and family. The smell of good food fills the upstairs. One evening we sat around a fire that another couple had made. And then another few came out, and we all admired the evening together. Just thinking about Xandra and Nala makes me smile. They made sure to welcome us every time we drove up to the property. They even led us on a walk around the grounds. They were our guides! I look forward to staying here again, and bringing friends to join.

  • My family and I enjoyed our stay at Rachel and Brian's home. The location was easily accessible via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)'s offline map. Rachel and Brian were super helpful, there we many times when we called on them for assistance, they were extremely helpful and gave of their time. Rachel and Brian had several subtle, thoughtful touches throughout their home that added to our overall experience. Rachel's homeopathic knowledge and experience is nothing short of amazing. My mom and I enjoyed the conversations we had with Rachel, Brian, and the other guest. The kids enjoyed playing with their dogs and learning about their farm animals in the surrounding areas. We highly recommend their home and would visit again. Thank you for a welcoming experience, see you soon!

  • Rose is an extra friendly and thoughtful host! We spent a wonderful weekend at her beautiful cottage that is just suitable for a small family or friendly company. Highly recommended!

  • What a really terrific little cabin! I came with four teenagers, we had no Wi-Fi, and an absolute blast. I could not have asked for better accommodations. The kitchen was stocked so that even I as a professional chef could cook, the lake is small & was perfect for a kayak and everyone I met tooling around the lake was so friendly. Although it was early season, the kids got in the water and had a blast. Do note that if you are looking for a beach, there is not one here, rather a huge deck with easy in and out of the water. You need water shoes though… Rocks & snails. Rose is an amazing hostess, was able to point out where to get the best ice cream in town, and took care of our every need. It's also worthy of note that town is about 20 minutes away, and there is only a large convenience store, no grocery store nearby, so come with what you need. There is a Pizza Pl., Chinese food, a couple of little restaurants, and of course… Ice creamThe cabin is stocked with toiletries, and pots pans and everything you need to clean up.

  • We had a great time at Loretta's. The house is on a very quiet, beautiful street. The view from the house was really nice and we have never seen so many stars in our lives! The hike behind the house was nice and my dog loved the yard/hike. The room is modernly decorated and was spotless. Comparable to the size of a hotel room. No kitchen/tv, which was fine for a short stay. Host was very responsive and helpful during our stay. We would definitely return and would highly recommend to others.

  • Ted and Loretta were very welcoming, communicative, and their place has all the amenities you would want for a long weekend away. Its very private and peaceful. Ted and Loretta were even nice enough to provide guides for the area and allowed us use of their fire pit. Had a wonderful visit!

  • Lovely space in a very peaceful setting with amazing view of the Catskills. Is a great jumping-off point for exploring locations along the Hudson River or the Berkshires.

  • Hosts were very accommodating. We flew in to Albany for a two day wedding event in Delhi and needed some flexibility as far as checking in and the hosts provided it. We were shown around the property at a time that fit around our schedule. The room is extremely clean and offers excellent amenities such as great coffee/tea and shower essentials such as shampoo/conditioner and body wash. Bed was extremely comfortable which was a relief after a long day of driving and events. The grounds were beautiful and are only regret of the trip was not having enough time to explore the hiking trails on the property and relaxing a bit more in the serenity of the property. The place is easy to find with a phone GPS and offers great views of the exceptional landscape of the area. Great place for a quiet getaway. Highly recommend.

  • Loretta's home is PERFECT and located on a truly beautiful piece of land. It has everything: the woods with a cute stream, a pond, a big yard with fire pit and stunning view of the mountains. The guest suite was extremely neat and organized and Loretta (a fabulous host) responded super quickly to any questions I had. We had a great time during our brief stay and would love to return- there are so many beautiful parks to explore around Hilltown Haven we couldn't fit it all in! When we arrived, it was 60 degrees and sunny and by the next morning there were 4 inches of snow on the ground, so we had a pretty broad experience. LOVED IT.

Large comfy bed, that you won't want to leave, in a cheery cantaloupe colored room. This room has been a favorite for writers and explorers of all kinds. Snuggle up and let your imagination wander, who knows what you'll find! Then go for a walk!
This room quiet but light, with north facing windows (for those that like a quieter start to the morning - although you are on the barn side of the main building). There is one Queen bed and this room can actually accommodate 3 people with an added cot, $15 for an additional person. Our main building is is 4000 sq ft, with a great room (7 couches), views of the lake from almost every room, 2 full baths, FIR sauna and more. We are a 90 acre Holistic Retreat Center and Organic Farm (Garden of One). We are working farm, and sometimes have animals that need short term special care. So you may find a baby chicken, turkey, duck, pig or rabbit nestled in a box or tub inside the main building. Most often you will be able to interact with them but please ask first! The "north" room is available year round, we heat with wood and a rocket stove mass heater so things are always toasty. We are at a 2000 ft elevation which makes for lovely cool sleeping weather, even in the heat of the summer. We are working farm, and sometimes have animals that need short term special care. Lovely swim-able private lake, forest & gardens. Canoeing, fishing and hiking available on our property. Full organic meal plans offered separately (and we are happy to pack a lunch for you if you're going to be out and about) -- can accommodate gluten & dairy free and most specialized diets. • Rachel and Brian were wonderful hosts. So easy to talk with and so kind. We stayed for three nights. The goal was to relax and decompress. That was achieved. It was the perfect location to take day trips to Lake George and Cooperstown. We spent the days sight seeing and early evenings relaxing on the farm. Thank you so much Rachel and Brian for a wonderful stay!

    Lauren2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel and Brian were very warm and open people. I enjoyed being at their farm. It was very laid back and I felt relaxed just being there. There were many outdoor activities in the area such as hiking and music festivals. I would definitely like to return.

  • Our stay was like a fairy tale: we lived in a forest in the middle of nowhere, had a private lake to swim in and row a canoe any time, had excellent breakfast every day, made friends with farm animals and had wonderful hosts. Rachel and Brian were very friendly and did everything to make our stay a pleasant one. I don't think that anything can be done better. We hope to have a chance to come to Rachel's place again.

    Olga2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • This AirBnB was a wonderful surprise. We really enjoyed our hosts, including the two big dogs, and the peace and quiet surrounding the house. Not just the room where we stayed but the open downstairs with a fireplace and comfortable couches and overstuffed chairs, were warm, welcoming, and best of all didn't set our allergies off. We were sad to leave Rachel's little island of tranquillity, and hope to come back again.

  • I was up and gone at dawn and back after dark. That is not how to visit here. The house is on a pond, in the woods. A very nice setting with a bit of back roads driving. They have farm animals, couple of dogs (friendly), and a small business. The owners are very welcoming.

    John2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We unfortunately weren't able to stay for our booked 2 days because we were offered other accommodations last minute by the bride and groom whose wedding we were in town for. Our hosts were nonetheless very kind and welcoming. We were more comfortable staying elsewhere, however, because we wanted a more tidy home with a more thorough clean.

This is a beautiful cottage on a small private spring fed lake in upstate New York. It is the perfect setting for a retreat from busy life. The lake is restricted from motors other than electric and is prime for fishing bass, trout, perch, and more The fourth generation home has a Sunfish sailboat, paddle boat, rowboat, canoe as well as two kayaks, an ample yard, picnic area, basket ball hoop, laundry facility and a small cottage that will sleep an additional two guests. The location is 10 miles from the Village of Middleburgh, NY, 3 miles from the hamlet of Rensselaerville, 35 miles from Albany, NY., 2 1/2 hrs form NYC.and 1 hour from Saratoga in the foothills of the Catskill mountains. Rental is available from June 1st through August 30th. May entertain requests beyond August 30th. The cottage is decorated in 1950s style. You will notice the knotty pine living room with a beautiful stone fireplace as well as an open porch facing the Lake. The yard is well maintained allowing for lawn sports. The lake front is accessible by steps as well as dock area. As of Spring 2016, we have renovated the upstairs of the cottage as well as one of the downstairs bathrooms. As a result, we are completely updated to make for an enjoyable stay. During your stay you might consider day trips to Cooperstown, NY to the Baseball Hall of Fame or to Saratoga Race Track or perhaps to Howe Caverns. Or maybe a hike might suit your day. Regardless of the activity you will have access to restaurants within 3-10 miles for eat-in or take-out. The stocked kitchen will allow for food prep on premises after visiting one of the local Schoharie Valley farms for fresh produce. Crystal Lake is a beautiful spot to make your vacation memorable as well as relaxing. **Cell phone service is improving at the house. Verizon works reliably. We have a landline as well.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at crystal lake. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful and the house was ideally located on the most picturesque hidden lake in the Catskills. The kitchen was pretty basic and small with no dishwasher and there was no internet but since we are used to a camping experience we didn't mind it at all. If you're looking for simplicity and peaceful nature far away from it all this is your house.

    Eva2015-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin and property are great. The water is amazing. The best party was Fred met us to show us everything. My family and I had a great time. It is definitely a place to relax. Went kayaking every morning at 9am, beautiful!

    jay2015-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Can't say enough good things about Crystal Lake and about Fred and Diane. First off, the hosts: Fred and Diane are very accommodating and were thoroughly responsive to all of our questions and concerns. You couldn't ask for better hosts. The Property: The listing is a very accurate description of the property, but still doesn't do it justice. The house is fully equipped and can accommodate large groups (we were 12). The main room is the perfect place for everyone to gather, and there are multiple dining tables to gather around. We usually had breakfast on the porch, and dinner out on the covered picnics. There is no shortage of activities -- horse shoes, bocci, fire pit, basketball, ping pong, lots of board games -- to keep the whole group engaged. Not to mention two great docks, a plethora of boats, and one of the cleanest lakes we've ever been to. The area is the perfect escape from the city, and we enjoyed every day out there. I don't believe there is public access to the lake and it certainly felt like we had the whole thing to ourselves. We had an amazing time and fully recommend Crystal lake.

  • The lake house was so much more than we expected! Wonderful, remote lakefront cabin with kayaks, canoe, boat and more. Quiet spot in the (URL HIDDEN) prepared to drive 30 minutes to a grocery store and the drive is a beautiful country trip. Fred was an excellent host and new friend. He greeted us as we arrived and gave us a tour of the house and property. All questions were answered. It was clear the lake house is a special place for Fred and his family; we are so happy they shared their place with us.

  • My sons and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Lake House. Fred and Diane were very easy to work with. Fred even met us and guided us to his home! The house was comfortable and cozy. The lake is even more beautiful than pictured! The cottage comes complete with so all the equipment to enjoy the time on the water. We sailed and kayaked and paddled our way to complete relaxation! It is a wonderful place to spend quality time with family. This was my first experience renting with airbnb and I highly recommend it, I would certainly rent again!

    Lori2013-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Diane and Fred made it convenient for us to arrive after dark, with hidden keys. The camp is the most sphificated on the lake - more a home than a camp. There were toys of every variety, including several boats. The view from the property is outstanding: early morning, sunset, rain or shine - the lake is magical. We had a ball. At its peak, there were 13 of us, something most houses cannot accommodate. It was the perfect family reunion, fun for our 4 old to our 94 year old.
