“Since launching in late 2008 on Carroll Gardens’ busy Court Street and elbowing its way to the front of the pack, Doug Crowell and Ryan Angulo’s comfort foodery has become an essential. For brunch, sample the short rib hash along with several killer variations on the Bloody Mary, one garnished with antipasti from nearby Caputo’s. If you try to beat the rush, you’ll still have to compete for ear space with the young families and kids of the neighborhood, but the din is worth it MY FAV PLACE IN THE WHOLE CITY ”

“IT'S 10 p.m. on a Wednesday at Sunny's in Red Hook, and the band is playing in the back room. The place is crowded. No empty seats at the bar, and all four booths are overflowing, two with drinkers playing Scrabble. There are a lot of goatees and black-rimmed glasses, and young women with small tattoos of geometric designs and flowers. A Johnny Cash CD plays in the narrow front room; he is performing an acoustic version of the song ''One'' by U2. ''Have you ever heard this record?'' asks Matt Dilling, who is serving drinks. ''This record is awesome.''”

“The bar and food area are so down home and friendly, with the best mac and cheese ever, and there is a theatre next door and sometimes a bluegrass trio in the food area. It's proper old Brooklyn via New Orleans.”
