Places to stay in Port Logan
With stunning views across Luce Bay the lodge is set in a peaceful coastal location with woodland to the rear; a footpath provides a short walk to the beach for seal watching and to enjoy all the other the sealife.
The Lodge provides luxury accommodation for a perfect romantic getaway in a cosy traditional gate lodge. The lodge has been renovated and finished to the highest of standards with hardwood floors and doors throughout matching and retaining the original character of this listed building. The sitting room has an attractive open fire making this a cosy base from which to explore the South Rhins Peninsula with its superb beaches, which are within easy reach, together with coastal walks. The lodge is in the grounds of 18th Century Ardwell House and guests have access to the estate grounds and gardens which are a popular attraction due to their exotic flora, walled garden, ponds and enchanting woodland walks. The estate is also able to offer guests fishing on the estate's loch which is stocked with rainbow trout. There are numerous activities available in the area and two not to be missed are the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, which sits on top of 300-foot cliffs with views of Ireland and the Isle of Man and the world-famous Logan Botanical Garden. The garden, one of six open to the public in this small area, is of particular note due to the varied species and specimens supported due to the mild climate that the area has from the effect of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. The local villages of Sandhead, Portpatrick and Port William are all worth exploring with deserted sandy or pebble beaches making for an enjoyable day out. The bustling fishing village of Portpatrick is not to be missed with a good variety of places to eat most with outside seating overlooking the picturesque harbour and further afield Wigtown, Scotland's national Book Town is a must for book lovers. The lodge makes for a wonderful holiday base either for relaxing in the cosy sitting room, enjoying the outside decking area in the beautiful garden or for getting out and about to enjoy the glorious scenery. A new path has been created meaning the Lodge is less than 200 yards' walk from the shore of Luce Bay and the Mull of Galloway coastal walk. The "back shore" has views looking over to Ireland, the shore with its cliffs and sandy bays such as Ardwell Bay is only three miles away. The quiet roads make it an ideal location for a country drive whilst for those wanting more strenuous activities the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes are also not far away in the Forestry Commission's Galloway Forest Park. If you live in a town you will be amazed by how bright the stars are on a clear night and you can enjoy them from the garden of the lodge whilst enjoying a glass of complimentary wine. • A really comfortable accommodation with everything we needed. Easy to find and with lovely hosts this was a brilliant peaceful site.

    Sheila2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Please book this gem of caravan. It is so amazing. Our kids loved it and it was so private and peaceful. We will definitely return.

  • We came with our 2 kids (6 and 8) and our 2 dogs and it couldn't have been more perfect! The beach is a stones throw away, actually felt like our own private beach as we never saw anyone. The garden is perfect for sunbathing and plenty of space for kids and dogs to play, glad we brought lunge leads for the dogs as there are neighbouring cows that like to visit! Loads to do and see nearby, we loved the Mull of Galloway. Harry and Julie were perfect hosts, so kind to us all. The kids loved feeding the chickens and my daughter suddenly developed a taste for dippy eggs after trying the fresh ones! Can't thank you guys enough for your hospitality and we look forward to seeing you again!

  • The caravan is situated in a beautiful location, short walk to the beach. We stayed there for 3 days and we felt like we had our own private beach. The bluebells surrounding the caravan were lovely, reminded me of my late sister, Bluebell. The place is very close to a dog friendly pub up the hill and half hour drive to Stranraer. So many places to see, Port of Galloway lighthouse, Dunskey Castle, Trinity' Church of Stranraer, Botanical Garden - to name just a few of them. We will be back for sure! :) Dani, Tony and Mojo 🐾

  • Dear Harry & Julie Thank you for a fabulous stay. The location was perfect , so lovely and quiet. Our few days left us feeling like we had been away much longer. It was so nice of you to see if we had settled in and if there was anything you could do for us . Please also thank your chickens for the lovely eggs 😀

  • Ruth and her husband were fantastic hosts, making us feel very welcome throughout our stay providing loads of local tips and insights. The no-fuss DIY(ish) breakfast was excellent and suited our needs perfectly. A lovely, cosy room with all the amenities made our stay an absolute pleasure. Really good location for exploring the whole of the Rhins of Galloway within a few days. We'll definitely be going back!

  • Fantastic location and great hospitality from Ruth!

    Rachel2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Bert were very helpful and friendly. Our stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. Highly recommended. Make sure you get full directions from Ruth before you set off. Google maps took us to a cottage with the same name one mile north where there was no mobile signal. Bert and Ruth were very helpful once we got to a phone signal.

  • A very warm welcome, ideal for people who are out most of the day and need somewhere warm and easy going to return to. Great bays and walks nearby.

  • It was fairly easy to find, and very peaceful. Ruth was very welcoming.

  • A lovely home in a very rural location with the most welcoming host. Nothing is too much trouble for Ruth and I thoroughly recommend her double and single rooms to everyone (especially if you are a gardener!!) Hope to return at some point.

Sandy Bay House is located on the shores of Luce Bay. It's a modern house in a fantastic location, next door is the Tigh Na Mara Hotel overlooking the beautiful scenery of Scotland's most south westerly peninsula. Sandy beaches, comfy beds, spacious rooms and free wifi.
Our house is located minutes from the shore line. It has spectacular views over Luce Bay. The village of Sandhead is situated on the most south westerly peninsula in Scotland. Having such a milder climate, we have Port Logan Botanical Gardens nearby and many other activities. Keen walkers will love the Mull of Galloway trail and there is three golf courses on our doorstep. Dumfries & Galloway has dark sky status so watch out for those stars. Finally, enjoy a pint of beer or local Gin in our pub, it’s dog friendly in the bar and they serve amazing home cooked food. Enjoy your stay, chill and unwind in Scotland’s most undiscovered area.
The south west coast of Scotland is renowned for its natural beauty and friendly people. It’s amazing sandy beaches and outdoor activities is what attracts most visitors to the village of Sandhead. Whether it’s walking the dog for miles along our golden coastline or simply just sitting back and enjoying what our accommodation has to offer , we are sure you’ll love the different pace of life.
  • Wonderful house, far better than expected, Neil is a great host, would definitely like to stay again.. thanks very much Neil

  • We loved Sandybay House because it’s very spacious, spotlessly clean and cosy and it had everything we needed. It is in a quiet location, but only 12 minutes from Stranraer, which has lots of amenities and shops. The hotel next door sold very good takeaway food, which was very reasonably priced. It was ideal because our dog isn’t well behaved in restaurants and we don’t leave him alone in a strange house. We enjoyed having a drink in the hotel bar, accompanied by our dog. Sandhead is a lovely quiet village, but close to Stranraer which has lots of amenities and shops. Luce Bay beach is stunning and just yards away from the house. The people in the village were friendly. We will definitely come back next year!

  • Such a great stay, couldn’t praise the property or the hospitality more. Food was great accommodation was great and will definitely be staying again when we come to visit my parents in Leswalt.

A luxury holiday cottage consisting of a wing of Kildrochet House, an early 17th Century Grade B listed building. Set within 5 acres of it's own land and situated in the beautiful countryside of Wigtownshire, South West Scotland. We started this listing in 2013 but only put the bare essentials in. Only today, April 4 2018 have we actually finished it. This is why we have had no guests or reviews from Airbnb so far! You can find 5-star reviews for us on Trip Advisor.
A luxury holiday cottage consisting of a wing of Kildrochet House, an early 17th Century Grade B listed building. Set within 5 acres of it's own land and situated in the beautiful countryside of Wigtownshire, South West Scotland. The cottage is beautifully furnished and decorated to a luxurious standard and provides an oasis of tranquility. Close to the delightful coastal harbour villages of Port Patrick and Port Logan with wonderful country views. Kildrochet Holiday Cottage is in peaceful extensive, beautifully kept mature gardens with open space for children to play and garden furniture for relaxing and dining outdoors. A spacious home which sleeps 2, is quiet and secluded, but there is also an optional fold-up bed for a third adult or child. Pets are also welcome. A perfect place for a couple to base a walking holiday from, to go golfing, to explore Logan Botanical Gardens or just to relax in the many country pubs in the area. Please also see our adjacent one bedroom property on Airbnb - "The Studio, Beach 10mins, Portpatrick 15mins". This may be particularly useful for groups of 3 or 4 travelling together as it also sleeps 2.
We are surrounded by farms and woods. We often have our farmer neighbours' cows or thoroughbred racehorse in our front paddock. We are 7 - 20 minutes from a number of beaches and coves as well as the pretty traditional village and harbour of Port Patrick from where, for hikers, the Southern Upland Way begins it's journey across Scotland to the east coast. We are a 45 min drive from the UK's largest National Park, the Galloway Forest National Park, which includes a major mountain bike circuit for leisure and competition. We have several gardens and estates close by with public access as well as castles, for example Castle Kennedy and Logan Botanical Gardens. Several golf corses are are very nearby, including the world famous Turnberry Hotel and Golf course. Two ferry companies sail to Northern Ireland - Belfast and Larne - from Cairnryan which is only about 8 miles from the property.
  • Beautiful place in a lovely spot. Well placed for exploring the surrounding area as long as you have a car to get around. The hosts were welcoming and helpful.

    Imogen2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our trip to Kildrochet House was absolutely lovely. The House, the Accommodation, the Area were all excellent and were a true reflection of the posting. I would highly recommend it and look forward to another visit in the future.

  • We had a lovely long weekend at Phillips place. The cottage is in a very quiet, rural setting but is just a short drive away from Stranraer and all the amenities there. The cottage is also very close to the picturesque town of Portpatrick and the coast. The house is very clean, tastefully decorated with cosy. It has all you need to enjoy a great weekend retreat and is in an ideal location for exploring the Rhins of Galloway.

  • We had a most enjoyable stay at Kildrochit House. The private courtyard cottage was very comfortable, sparkling clean, and ideally situated to many scenic areas of Wigtownshire. The gardens around the house are beautiful. Philip was a very welcoming and friendly host.

  • We loved staying here. The apartment is in a quiet location. It was lovely to sit in the window seat and look out on to the garden. Everything has been thought of,the apartment is furnished to a very high standard. We didn't want to leave! Highly recommended.

  • This apartment provided the ideal base for our 3-day visit around the area. The grounds around the apartment is very peaceful (countryside with garden and wooded landscape). Well equipped and spacious, the 2.5 storey apartment has a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom on the top level, a nicely appointed living room on the middle floor, and a large kitchen and dining area on the ground floor. Windows on all levels look out to beautiful garden or wooded areas of the property. Philip is an excellent host (thoughtful, prompt, etc.).

    Steven2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Philip’s place having booked this trip whilst still on our first visit! Again the location was excellent, hospitality welcoming and the house was perfect for the two of us and our two dogs. We are already planning our return trip for next year! Thank you again!

Known as "The Studio", our new one bedroom apartment is a conversion of outhouses within the grounds of our early 17th century main house. Flooded with light from the front doors and skylights, it has a very contemporary, 'Manhattan loft' character while maintaining a very cosy feel to it. It sits in 5 acres of land comprising of a lawn, paddock and wooded area. Only 3 miles from the facilities of Stranraer and around a 7 minute drive to both the beach and a forest.
We do not accept dogs although those wishing to visit with friends or family could book together with our adjacent one bedroom property which does accept dogs (please see Kildrochet House - "Country Cottage/ Beach 10mins/ Portpatrick 15mins" on Airbnb where you can also see our positive reviews.) Built to a very high standard with clean lines, exposed beams and brick/stonework, we used mostly recycled stone and brick from the previous buildings and the old byres. The kitchen/lounge area is open plan with high vaulted ceilings with floor to ceiling windows and double doors which open out onto a patio with a table and chairs. The bedroom leads from this and is separate from the main living area. There is a separate bathroom with walk in shower. Other highlights include a wood burning stove, coffee pod machine with Nespresso milk frother, Alexa music player and courtyard. The UHD smart TV also has a built in premier Netflix subscription available to guests and there is high speed fibre optic wifi. Coffee pods, tea and some milk is provided. Guests with bikes can lock them in the stables (although the property is generally very safe for leaving them outside anyway.)
We are only about a seven minute drive to both the huge Sandhead Beach (Luce Sands) and the Torrs Warren forest. The lovely harbour village of Portpatrick is 5 miles away with it's coastal walks, pubs and restaurants. We have many first class gardens nearby, including Castle Kennedy and the Logan Botanical Gardens. For children and families, there is the Laggans Activity Park nearby.
  • This is a lovely place in a lovely area. Stylish, modern, warm, a clever use of space, and a comfortable bed. The owners are great, friendly and helpful, and we had just what we needed, a peaceful and adventurous week of respite. We'd also like to thank Philip for keeping us well supplied with firewood.

    Anna2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our three night stay. The Studio is immaculate and very stylish. The log burner was a welcome feature, which made the cooler evenings very cosy and there was a plentiful supply of logs provided, which was much appreciated. The bed is extremely comfortable and all bedding and towels were supersoft. The large smart tv with Netflix is another bonus. It really is a home from home. The studio is in a very quiet area but within easy reach of town for shops and restaurants. We visited Portpatrick, the Mull of Galloway, a nearby forest and other towns and villages, which were all well worth a visit. We would recommend this place without hesitation, as it's lovely and in a beautiful part of Scotland.

    Jane2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Philip's airbnb is a wonderful space. It is perfect for a long weekend a way but we could have moved in. The decor is classy but still cosy. Philip's hospitality was great, we arrived on a dark and blustery evening to find he'd already started the fire to warm the apartment. The fire was definitely one of the higights. There are lots of high quality appliances and extras such as a nespresso coffee machine with pods and a milk frother. The large double bed is quite soft but still very comfy. 10/10 would go back and recommend.

The 3 bedroomed lodge sits on a farm some 3 miles from the beautiful fishing village of Portpatrick. Enjoy the peace and tranquility, with uninterrupted views across the sea to Northern Ireland.
The log cabin is situated on a working farm, with uninterrupted views across the sea to Northern Ireland. Situated only 3 miles from Portpatrick and neighbouring Knockinaam Hotel with its Michelin starred restaurant. Bedrooms consist of a double, a twin and a bunk room. We offer basic but comfortable accommodation to a good standard with the most fabulous views! This lodge has ramp access to the property.
The site offers peace and tranquility and some of the most stunning views in Scotland. Just a walk or car ride away from Portpatrick, a vibrant fishing village offers you the chance to socialise with the locals and sample some fine food. Portpatrick has a fantastic golf course (Dunskey) with a 18 and 9 hole course. Trump Turnberry, with its world class courses (and superb afternoon tea) is a 40 minute drive away.
  • Great location with stunning views over the cliffs and amazing sunsets, the village of Portpatrick is close by with lots of great food and very friendly locals.. This was a perfect base to explore the whole area and the host was very helpful.

    Chris2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge is situated in a peaceful location with lovely views across to Ireland. My boys enjoyed waking up and seeing what all the sheep were up to in the field next to the lodges. The decking area was a great place to eat outside and enjoy the views. There are lots of things to do in the local area and we had lots of fun exploring including the nearby village of Port Patrick and the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse. We had a great walk from the lodge down to the beach and spotted two seals. We continued on to Dunskey Castle which was a lovely walk along the cliff tops. You can also walk to Port Patrick on this path too. Ian was a very helpful host and provided very clear directions and check in information. He popped down to say hello and made it clear that he was around to help if we needed anything but left us to get on with our holiday. As the listing notes this is basic accommodation but it was comfortable and clean with everything needed. The shower was excellent! If you want to get away from it all and grab some peace and quiet then this place is for you. Gorgeous views and lots of beautiful countryside and coast right on your doorstep.

    Debbie2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to stay if you are looking for great scenery, fantastic hospitality, peace and Quiet, plus lovely places to visit. We visited Portpatrick by foot, Stranraer by car and also a boat trip to Belfast. The hospitality was first class, the beds were very comfortable and what can be better than sitting on that balcony, a glass of wine in hand looking out over the hills and the Irish Sea. We would love to return again soon.

    Ian2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Had a brilliant few days. If you want peace and quiet with outstanding views this is the place. The lodge is fab and we will definitely be back.

  • We had lodge number 2 and it has the most amazing views over the sea, from high on a hill, surrounded by sheep and cows. Perfect. On arrival, we followed the check-in instructions without issue. The lodge was very clean and the bedding was lovely and soft. The shower is a really good size and there was a ready supply of hot water. The location is very quiet and peaceful. For the first couple of days we made the most of the picnic bench and chairs on the veranda and during the wetter times, we made use of the games. There are plenty of leaflets offering details of local places to visit and if you need grocery supplies, it takes about 10 mins to get to either Tesco or Morrisons. There's is also a Lidl a mile or two closer. There were 4 of us staying (adults) and we'd not hesitate to stay again when visiting the area.

This charming semi-detached cottage is set in the delightful coastal village of Sandhead. It enjoys an enviable location within a stone’s throw of the beautiful sandy beach which, in low tide stretches for three miles. At high tide small boats can be launched at the beach and Sandhead Bay and fishing can be enjoyed locally. The cottage has been completely renovated and offers beautiful holiday accommodation with solid wood flooring in the lounge and good facilities in the bathrooms.
Guests love returning to Bayshiel due to how close it is to the beautiful beach which allows for long walks. You can also enjoy watching the sun rise and sun set out of the lounge window.
It is a very friendly and quiet village with a well stocked local shop and a very popular restaurant also situated within the village. There is a park for children to play in.
  • Fantastic cottage with amazing views and a fab location! Very highly recommended x

  • Place is immaculate and much bigger in real life. It had everything we needed for our five night stay. I'd totally recommend.

  • Bayshiel is such a comfortable and well appointed home that we would love to visit again. In three nights, we enjoyed this thoughtfully laid out home and appreciated the very well equipped kitchen, and beautiful decor as well as a terrific quiet location facing a lovely beach. Parking is easy and there is beautiful scenery both on the beaches and in the countryside very nearby. A short walk to the shop and excellent meal at the local pub. Karen was always quick to respond with helpful and welcoming tips.

  • Bayshiel is a beautiful little gem of a cottage that's been fully modernised and refurbished. The location is mind blowingly beautiful as it's directly across the road from the beach. Smart TV, WIFI wasn't bad, garden was a little small but honestly who needs a big garden when you have the beach! Only small downside was that there is a bank of trees behind the house which seemed to host hundreds of noisy nesting birds... You can't hear them from inside the house - but from in the garden, the racket can be deafening... Especially at night, and the car needed a good clean from all the droppings... All in all a cracking holiday place.

  • My partner, two young kids, my mum and my sister and her 2 kids enjoyed a fab 4 night stay at Bayshiel cottage over New Year. There was plenty of space for us all, the house was sparkling clean and the best stocked air b and b I have ever stayed in. The location was perfect, right on the beach, and the locals were friendly! We had some great day trips and felt very relaxed in the space. Thank you Karen for your clear and timely communication at all times and for allowing us to stay in your clearly much loved and cared for cottage.

  • We spent a week in lodge number one, it suited our needs perfectly, I wanted a calm and relaxing week away to de-stress before the start of term and it did exactly that, waking up to that amazing view each morning was priceless, plenty to do around the area including popping over to Belfast on the ferry for a couple of day trips via recommendations from Ian, hopefully be back again soon.

  • My 16 yr old son, who is not easily pleased, commented ‘who needs WiFi when you’ve got a view like this!’ Result! We spent hours sat on the deck area, looking over the Irish Sea. I know the area well as I grew up nearby, and am still enthralled by the peace and tranquility. Good weather helped too!

  • Our family of four really enjoyed our stay near Portpatrick! What a breathtaking spot!! The lodge perfectly suited our needs for space, all the comforts we required and for an excellent value. Everything was spotless and the hosts were very friendly and always helpful! We found lots to do in the area and highlights included: walking along the coast from Portpatrick to the castle ruins, in Portpatrick - the play park, pitch and putt, Mount Stewart Hotel Restaurant, Port Pantry Cafe, and nearby the pool in Stranraer, cinema in Newton Stewart and we LOVED Kirroughtree mountain biking and visitor centre. We will definitely be back!! There was plenty more to see / do!

  • Lovely peaceful surroundings with a complete lack of noise the countryside offers make the Torrs Wells a good choice for those seeking quiet and rest. Best food in all these parts. Try the 10 oz. steak with Drambuie sauce after the homemade chicken terrine. The new owner Paul graces the bar with the ease of a people person and is a most generous host. He'll keep you amused with conversation about his book collection and plans for refurbishment of anything tired. Fabulous function rooms with splendid views make this an ideal venue for meetings of all sorts, and the Sunday carvery is so favored that it's best to sign up online in advance.
