  • The Mill House was a delightful find! I could not have found a more beautiful place to stay. The house is well appointed, well equipped and immaculate. The location is gorgeous and the village of Porlock is a wonderful base for Exmoor. It has pubs, restaurants and shops and glorious walks. You won't be disappointed if you book this lovely property! Thank you Emma and Geoff

  • Beautiful cottage, in amazing surroundings. We stayed as a young family of 4 and all settled in immediately. It is a gentle walk in to the village where you can find a good selection of places to eat. The children really loved Porlock weir which is a couple of miles down the road, and again has plenty of eateries and great opportunities for stone skipping on the sea. The beds are really comfortable, and there is plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space available. The bathroom has a fantastically large bath for the children, with stunning views of the surrounding area, and the en-suite has a large walk in shower, and underfloor heating. All in all a wonderful place to stay, we will definitely go back again if staying in the area.

  • What an amazing house and location! On the edge of a beautiful village full of shops, cafes and restaurants, and surrounded by incredible woods and landscape it was exactly what we wanted for our family holiday. Minehead is 10 minutes in the car, and exmoor is 5 minutes up the road, but there's no need to drive as there's so much to explore from the doorstep. The photos don't do it justice! We will be back...

    Tom2017-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place, bigger than it looks in the photos! Porlock is a lovely village.

Accommodation on Exmoor cannot be found in more delightful surroundings than Porlock. . Approached via a narrow lane, behind the 13th century church, Marley Cottage is in a secluded yet central location. Dating back to the late Victorian era, the cottage is the end terrace of six properties originally built as homes for local boat builders. Recently renovated, Marley Cottage has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished to create an inviting holiday home, with a pretty south facing seating area. To the front, the cottages share a pedestrian right of way for access. Weekly guests normally arrive on Saturday. I can sometimes be flexible for a Sunday arrival. One well behaved dog is welcome at the cottage
The hills of Exmoor surround Porlock on three sides, with the heather covered moors cut by deep, often wooded combes with clear sparkling streams at their base. The spectacular beauty of Exmoor is protected by the Exmoor National Park Authority and the National Trust, with the flora and fauna on the moor helped by the award-winning purity of the air. In addition, Porlock Bay has received EU awards for the cleanliness of the sea-water. Its unique situation allows Porlock to enjoy a wonderful, warm and soft climate. The village of Porlock on Exmoor Porlock is a traditional Exmoor Village with a long history of settlements existing on or near the site of the existing village, with stone-age remains only a short distance away. It is also a working village with shops supplying all that you need, to be found in the High Street. You will certainly be sure of a friendly Exmoor welcome in them all. This will be echoed in the pubs, hotels and restaurants to be found here.
  • This house was a pleasure to stay in. Everything was done well. The kitchen is light in the morning and was stocked with pots and pans and utensils. The beds had fresh linens. It is conveniently located within about 3 min walk from grocery on high street.

  • Lovely charming cottage in centre of pretty Porlock. Tight access for car, but I have a seven seater and managed it ok. Ideal base for exploring Exmoor. Worth a visit.

    Nick2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely lovely :-) perfectly clean and very well equipped. Porlock is a very pretty village with the sea only 20 minutes walk away. We had a lovely time despite half of us being very under the weather!

    Poppy2016-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is just as described. It is clean, comfortable, very well equipped and located in a busy coastal community. There is plenty to do locally - with a great museum if you are interested in history and beautiful countryside and beaches to explore further afield.

Set in a historic house over 500 years old, this conversion from the old stables exudes character and rural charm. Right on the Coleridge Way, it's perfect for walkers and anyone who wants a comfortable base from which to tour Exmoor and North Devon.
You will be living in an old stables - but without the horses, sadly! It has been converted by a well-known architect famous for her work on historic buildings.
  • Really wonderful escape to the country - Jeremy and Paivi were both very hospitable and we were impressed with the cottage. Really great location for accessing lots of pretty coastal towns!

    Shelina2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The stables was perfect in every way: very clean, warm and cosy with an outstanding view. Great location with amazing walks near by and pub in walking distance with nice food. Jeremy was a fab host, helping us get a feel for the area and very welcoming to our dog. Home made bread and jams were a treat on arrival! Would love to come back as it was such a great holiday. Thanks again.

    Scarlett2017-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • This secluded little spot it a true diamond in the hills of Devon! The location and accommodation is more that we expected but what made the trip for us was the hospitality of Jeremy and his wife! From baking us fresh bread in the mornings to taking our daughter to collect eggs from the hens, nothing was too much. I truly peaceful short family get away. Thank you!

    Ben2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and lovely hosts, they were especially good with the kids. Would definitely stay again.

    Harry2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Parsonage stables is in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Our welcome was very warm and hospitable with a goody basket of delicious bread and jams - and eggs! The stables are imaginatively renovated and comfortable with lovely decorations and artefacts; we even had a private garden space; and there is folder containing a wealth of information about the area.

    Barry2016-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting for a relaxing break away from it all. Loads to see in the surrounding area by car and nice walks from the stables doorstep. Highly recommended to families with young children that want a secluded place to stay - our toddler loved seeing the chickens and the sheep and cows in surrounding fields. Jeremy has a travel cot too, so we didn't have to bring one. Excellent tips for things to see and do in their visitors book.

    Nick2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and Unique..with a bit of history thrown in Parsonage Farm sits in its own little piece of Exmoor heaven. A few miles from Porlock, it has views to die for - look one way and bask in the wonder of wild and untamed moorland (you may even see wild deer near by), look the other way and take in the distant shimmer of Wales across the Bristol Channel. And if its night time, just look up....you'll see more stars than you ever dreamed possible in this day and age. The Paynes are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them in making your stay a blissful experience. You'll also get to know the dogs, cats and variety of chickens who are the real owners of the farm!!! Amazingly, it is thought that the great English poet, Coleridge, wrote his most famous masterpiece, "Kubla Khan" at the farm so you you get to enjoy an astounding bit of history too. You'll love your stay at Parsonage Farm......enjoy!

    Melanie2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, and get away, very secluded, and warm welcome. Ben our 11 year old loved it especially feeding the chickens. (Thanks for the egg, he really enjoyed it). It was also great to be able to charge our electric car, so we could get back up the hill (Steep hill coming down to the house that generated 3 extra miles, through regenerative breaking!)

  • Lovely little roof mini apartment in a gorgeous location. Amanda is a really considerate welcoming host. We saw her briefly on arrival and then again when came in from the pub. She gave us tips on nice local spots and the breakfast was scrummy too.

  • Amanda has been the best host I have never had in the 6 years I have been using airbnb. We went to Amanda's place for a weekend, with our 2 years old boy and she really looked after us, the cot was ready for him, all beds were warmed up with electric blankets, special towel for the little one, including a whole toys basket in his bedroom and high chair. Breakfast was delicious, full english breakfast every morning. And Ned her dog so friendly as well. I would highly recommend Amanda's place to anyone staying in beautiful Porlock. Thanks Amanda

    Maria2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Amanda's place for an August weekend break and would recommend it to anyone. It's a lovely, bright top floor apartment, spotlessly clean, comfortable and really nicely decorated with plenty of good amenities (TVs, electric blanket, mini fridge, tea & coffee station, microwave, complimentary biscuits etc). Amanda was the perfect host - friendly, helpful and accommodating to our schedule despite having to work over the weekend. And the breakfast spread was excellent - coffee, teas, juice, croissants, eggs, cereals, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit... The village of Porlock is small, very pretty and seemed to have a couple of nice pubs, though we didn't get the chance to try them out as we were out exploring the rest of Exmoor National Park, which has some great countryside hikes and spectacular driving routes. Look forward to returning sometime!

    James2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Amanda's place was a pleasure from start to finish. The flat was spotlessly clean and beautiful ; a great space , tastefully decorated and easy to live in. We are already planning our next trip.

  • We enjoyed our stay here. It's a comfortable cosy hideaway. The wood burner was most welcome in the evenings.

  • Fantastic, cosy, clean with amazing views over exmoor. Very informative hosts that ensured our stay was relaxing as possible - including a tasty batch of brownies on arrival! Very accessible to Minehead with supermarkets etc yet secluded within the national park. Hopefully visit again some time!

    Elaine2017-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was perfect when we arrived. The directions are easy to follow. The house was spotless. The view and proximity to the open country was even better than we expected. We were able to use several very detailed maps and walking guides provided at the house. Everything we needed had been thought of - firelighters, matches, kindling and logs in plentiful supply - for a beautiful fire every evening.

    Dawn2015-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place for our family of four. Little Knapp had everything that we needed - it was spotlessly clean, comfortable, cosy, well laid out, nicely decorated and very well equipped. A lot of thought has gone into kitting the house out and things like having a supply of the basics are a nice touch and very much appreciated. Speaking of nice touches, the cake on our arrival was delicious. Tanzie and Rich welcomed us on our first day and I am sure would have been very helpful later in our stay if we'd needed it but the house was so well stocked and full of information that we didn't need to bother them again. This is a great base to enjoy a lovely area.

    Chloe2016-04-02T00:00:00Z

  • The shepherds hut was very cosy, comfortable, and pretty. The location was brilliant, close to the town centre but also very private. Michael was a helpful host; he had many tips on good places to eat/see. The breakfast was excellent and he was very accommodating of my rather restrictive dietary requirements.

    steve2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Michael made us feel very welcome and laid on a more than ample supply of croissants for our continental breakfast. The Shepherd's hut was just as described. There are fantastic walks in every direction - from the hut down through the marshes to the sea, and from Porlock Weir to Culbone church (reputedly the smallest in the country) were the two we took. A great place to stay.

    Daniel2016-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Michael is a fantastic human. He has a great outlook on life, a subtle manner and wisdom that he dresses up in the appropriate amount of humor. On two occasions Michael went beyond the normal bounds of host/hostee relationship and really helped me out with travel arrangements and timings. The breakfast was outstanding, a deft hand with conversation and the culinary arts. I am more than satisfied with my visit and would recommend to any one, or couple, looking for a fresh getaway from the rigmarole of daily life. Thank-you Michael

Light and airy twin bedroom in a picturesque, old four-bed house with large, level garden. Situated in a tranquil, wooded valley with stream, our home is accessed via an uneven road. Listen to birdsong in the day and, in the absence of clouds, sit out and marvel at the stunning night sky.
Ideal for friends or just couples. Our house is within Exmoor National Park: turn right at the front gate for numerous walks in the woods and, for the more adventurous, up to the moors: turn left for a one-mile stroll to Porlock village with its shops, restaurants and tearooms.

The room is tastefully furnished and well-kept and ideal for a quiet rest. The bathroom too is clean and nice. The hosts were gracious, kind, and very generous with their time. Lovely old house with lots of character. Very comfortable, spotless and cosy - with wood burning stoves. Beautiful quiet location, tucked away in a stunning valley. Chalk Water river running through the garden, with little waterfall. Garden backs onto Exmoor national park for excellent riding, walking and so on. Wonderful birdlife. 5 mins from the coast, with plenty of exploring potential. We guide specialist horse safaris on Exmoor and provide organic wholesome meals and wines on request.
With the influence of working in different continents the house has a very unique feel. It is cosy and welcoming; interesting and intriguing with plenty of influences from around the world.
It is extremely quiet, with wonderful morning birdsong. Tucked away down a quiet lane. Beautiful countryside all around - Exmoor National Park backs onto the garden. The coast is 5 mins away.
  • Staying at The Old School House in the depths of an Exmoor valley is a totally unique experience. Every room is full of character and furnished with antique or exotic artifacts and fascinating books. The bed was very comfortable and the shower excellent. James was a wonderful host, very welcoming and more than willing to share his space and make his guests feel completely at home. The organic vegetarian dinner he cooked, using produce from his garden, liberally laced with herbs and spices gleaned from his travels, was utterly fantastic. Hoping to return!

  • The location is fantastic, beautiful building and so quiet and peaceful! James was an amazing host, incredibly thoughtful and definitely looks after his guests. The home cooked meal was definitely worth it. Overall I had an amazing time and will definitely be back!!

  • This is what airbnb must all about! James is the most exceptional host. The warm welcome, the sharing. We had very tasty and healthy evening meals together and good conversations near the fireplace. I destressed completely and booked an additional night straight away. James is a complete expert in horses and a travelled man. The house is at the most beautiful calm location with a stream running alongside the house. The environment is great for walking, motorbike and sight-seeing. I can definitively recommend The Old School house in every aspect.

  • Linda was very nice from the start to the end, welcoming us with tea and scones, providing us for additional bed for one kid, and giving us plenty of good recommendations for visiting the surroundings. One of the best Airbnd experience I had so far.

  • My daughter, dog and I stayed here for 5 nights over 1/2 term and I must say it was perfect and just what the doctor ordered! We stayed in The Stable Cottage which was clean, spacious with a lovely finish and plenty of kitchen utensils, pots & pans etc. At night time it was a cosy and warm place to relax in front of the TV and fire after a day out exploring. The bed in the master bedroom was super comfortable (too comfortable!) and I had 2 of the best nights sleep in years as well as 3 other pretty impressive ones! So quiet and peaceful. The cottages and apartments are run by the friendly Brian and Linda who live on site in their own home which is incredibly helpful if you need some pointers as to what is where. Linda very kindly arranged a horse riding afternoon at a local yard for my daughter which was the highlight of her holiday. Trecking up the mountains on horseback with another rider while I took myself off to the farmer's market in Minehead and then a long walk in nearby Porlock. Absolutely stunning! Dunster Castle is well worth a visit with some incredibly picturesque views especially if you make it to the top! We were very pleased we did and worthy of the effort of our tiny dog Dante who is at best "walk shy!". If you are looking to escape from a busy life in stunning surroundings and get back to nature then this place ticks all the boxes. A friendly, relaxing and comfortable cottage which I will certainly return to very soon for another dose of country living with exceptionally friendly people.

Merci !

The location is quiet and secluded, but you are within walking distance of a handful of pubs and restaurants. Meryl and David will also happily recommend local spots to check out too. Thanks again!

  • We had a lovely holiday. The property was beautifully restored & furnished & very well placed to explore the surrounding countryside on foot & by car. It was very quiet & relaxing with beautiful views & set in lovely grounds. The hosts were very helpful & had lots of advice & maps to borrow on local walks. Porlock was a short walk away, along a pretty road that followed a stream & good for eating out & supplies, we tried some lovely local produce from the village shop. We also walked to Porlock Wier, which was beautiful, as well as exploring Exmoor. I would definitely recommend it!

The Apple Loft is a fabulously decorated apartment that i wish i could take home with me. Everything was spotless and everything we needed was there. The grounds of Glen Lodge are simply stunning, with forests, rivers and a view across the channel, just some of its endearing features. • We had a wonderful stay here for our anniversary. We have quite a low, long car so it's always a bonus to have somewhere easy to park and there was plenty of parking at the main house. The roads into Porlock are narrow, but nothing unusual for Exmoor. As you drive up the main house, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, as is the main house, which makes for a very stunning arrival. We had a very warm welcome and thorough introduction to the loft; there are two and we had the loft next to this one pictured (they are in a building which is U shaped so you are never aware you have neighbours). The loft itself is finished to an incredibly high standard and every detail has been thought of; from milk and eggs in the fridge to nice touches like a collection of DVDs next to the TV. The wifi connection is very good which was important for us, as although a mini break we still had some work to do. Outside the loft is a cosy balcony with table and chairs, which feels very private and secluded. The sound of the river/stream running through the grounds is very peaceful, which you can follow, with just a short walk, into Porlock. Overall it was a wonderful base for our weekend away and Meryl and her husband were incredibly accommodating and we would absolutely love to return one day!

  • We've just spent a very lovely three nights in Porlock. We didn't meet Meryl but her husband David looked after us and took his time to show us the apartment, and on our departure was keen to make sure we provided feedback on how things could be done better - and there wasn't much of that to give. The dog friendly space itself is small but perfectly formed and is ideal for two or three people - although the 5 of us were happy enough. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped but as there was 5 of us so a few extra cups and plates could have been handy. The bathroom has a fantastic shower and the main bedroom is quite spacious, and is a lovely calm, comfortable space with view of the sea. A few things I hadn't appreciated/may have missed in the description - The second room is tiny - not much bigger than the single bed it houses (but our son loved it for that reason). There is no washer/dryer in the apartment although perhaps this was available up at the main house and with three kids would have been handy :) We didn't find the sofa bed particularly comfortable (and after a few glasses of red it didn't matter much!) but the bed in the lovely main bedroom was fine. Our children absolutely loved the hot tub!! The apartment is cosy, clean, peaceful... we loved it and are very grateful to have enjoyed the experience. Thank you.

  • Many thanks for making us so welcome during our brief stay. The loft is charming and well kitted out with everything we needed. It was a great spot from which to explore the stunning countryside you have on your doorstep.

  • Meryl and David made us feel very welcome, were friendly and informative about the area. They were there when we needed them and were not obtrusive. They showed us around the Apple Loft and how everything in it worked. The neighbourhood was delightful. If you want a stay in the country, in a beautiful place with luxury fittings and fixtures, is comfortable, clean and warm this is the place for you. The accommodation is set in the wooded grounds of the owners home and is private and secluded. We explored walks from the property and enjoyed the surrounding country side. A view of the sea from our bedroom window sets this property apart. Having free wifi was a bonus. Well done Meryl and David!

  • A great stay in this spacious, well equipped house in the centre of Porlock. My daughter and my 4 year old grandson appreciated the vast size of the rooms and the peace of their room at the rear of the property. My own bedroom was at the front of the property and faced the high street, so there was the usual sounds of village life to be heard. The kitchen was well equipped and the house was clean throughout.
