Vacation Rentals in Pooley Bridge

Just booked in Pooley Bridge

Set in a quiet converted Mews, the Granary is a cosy, light and spacious apartment with bath and shower, kitchen, dining area, lounge and separate bedroom with king sized bed.
A fold out bed is available, for an extra person to sleep in the lounge. There is a window seat in the lounge offering a view of Knipe Scar. The private garden has a lockable shed for storage of bikes or other outdoor equipment.
There is a village store/Post Office a 2 minute walk from the property and two pubs within half a mile. There are lots of other good pubs and cafes between 3 and 10 miles away. Details of these and menus where possible are stored at the Granary. It's a great location for walking. You can access a footpath which takes you down to the river, a quarter of a mile away, without having to go on roads, and there you'll find the peaceful riverside path. For the more adventurous, there are plenty of hill and mountain walks offering great views of Haweswater and Ullswater. There are over 30 laminated guided walks stored at the property, to give you some ideas to get started. There are also loads of great places for cycling and other outdoor activities.
  • A great little spot to explore the northern Lake District! The Granery is a really comfortable little place to stay with a well-equipped kitchen for self-catering, comfy couch and bed, spacious and clean bathroom with shower and bath and of course, needles in a nice little spot in the countywide away from the tour is centres. While we never actually met Charlotte, she was very responsive and helpful to any queries/correspondence. Would stay here again for sure.

  • The cottage was a perfect base for our stay. The cakes in the fridge when we arrived were a very welcome surprise! The cottage was very cosy. It was well equipped and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook all our meals. Loved the views from the living room and sitting in the window seat.

  • Place was lovely, rural and quiet and exactly as described. Would definitely recommend to any couples visiting the lake district

  • Attractive, well appointed accommodation in a quiet location with lovely views. It was spotlessly clean and Charlotte left us a welcome pack with some goodies for our arrival. Communication with Charlotte was easy prior to our check in, and there was plenty of information about the local area if we needed it. Nice place.

  • Good communication ahead of our stay. Check-in was very simple. The flat is exactly as pictured. Very comfortable place to come back to after hours of trekking. It's set it a beautiful little village and offers great views from the reading seat in the window. Flat was very clean and had everything we needed. Recommend Charlotte as a host and the flat to any couples looking to explore the Lakes.

  • I loved the warm soft towels big enough to wrap completely around me with room to spare and the hand towels and face clothes ( face flannels ) were a lovely addition too. Everything was clean and tidy, with a big comfy bed and great views of the green countryside from several windows. The Velux roof windows opened easily when I wanted a bit of air and the heaters kept the whole place warm on the nights when it was needed. The kitchen was well equipped and Charlotte left some yummy snacks to welcome us as we settled in on our first evening. Her directions and suggestions were spot on and so detailed we had no trouble in finding the location. The internet and TV worked well with no problem which made it easy to be in touch with family and friends who wished to connect on my birthday. Charlotte was delightful and timely with her responses and her lovely AirBnb made my birthday away very special. I would have posted photos, but what you see in the listing is exactly what you can expect. Safe Journey!

  • Charlotte was very helpful and friendly. The place was excellent and good value for money.

  • Colin and his wife are lovely hosts. The apartment is decorated to a high standard; it was very clean and well equipped. It was very warm, cosy and really felt like a home. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Pooley Bridge; a gorgeous village in the Lake District. There are a few bustling pubs and restaurants, all with genuinely friendly staff and full of atmosphere all day and evening. This is a popular place for a good reason. There are a couple of local shops which cover all the basics and more. Most places are dog friendly and it is a great place to go dog walking, sailing or pretty much every other activities that can be done in the Lake District right on you door step. Colin's apartment made for an ideal place to stay in this wonderful location. The picture doesn't do the place justice, it really is a hidden little gem. My wife and I had an amazing weekend. Oh and another bonus was it's only about 5-10 mins from the M6, so getting thier and back was a doddle...

  • Perfect for a couple with a dog exploring the North Lakes. Colin was a superb host from initially booking the flat, to saying our goodbyes. The accommodation was beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly need. We didn't cook, opting to eat out instead which seemed a shame as we didn't get to fully appreciate the kitchen! The shower was great-just what you need after a long, wet walk. Comfy bed and generally a flat with a really welcoming and homely feel. We had views of the lake, the bridge and the high street depending on which window you looked out of. We had our 2 Border Terriers with us and we were all impressed with the doggie box! Bowls, throw for the sofa and a dog bed-never have our dogs been so well catered for. The location of the flat was just perfect. Next door to Colin's tearoom, what a gem. We thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast and Colin even delivered it to our door on plates rather than the usual takeaway cartons! Great service! The tearoom and 3 pubs on our doorstep were dog friendly and so we were spoilt for choice with places to eat out. We had planned to drive somewhere for dinner but in the end had plenty of choice in Pooley Bridge. Colin recommended a really good walk, which gave us spectacular views of Ullswater and kept us entertained for about 3 hours. There were a lot of sheep around but our dogs were very happy on their extendable leads. Pooley Bridge is within easy reach of a number of different towns. We enjoyed a trip to Keswick which was about 30 mins drive away. Thank you ever so much Colin for being an excellent host and providing such a thoughtful and pristine flat. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to come again!

  • An amazing find in Pooley Bridge. Perfect for 2 people and a pooch! We stayed for 3 nights with our Bulldog and thoroughly enjoyed it. The apartment is right in the middle of Pooley Bridge near pubs and next to the post office/shop. Only 5min walk from the Steamer Pier. It was spotlessly clean throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped if like us you get a bit sick of eating out while in holiday! Bathroom was roomy and clean. Towels provided.

    Joe2017-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely flat in a beautiful location! Really enjoyed our stay here, especially the super comfy bed.

    Emma2017-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful flat - furnished neatly and tastefully, just the perfect size for two people. Picking the keys up and dropping them off at the tea room downstairs was very easy too. There’s about 10 parking spots directly outside and another two car parks mere metres away - the spaces outside the front door, are popular during the day but cars are coming and going frequently so there’s plenty of opportunity to get a good parking space if you dont manage to get one as soon as you arrive. The flat is cosy but still modern and fresh, kitchen is equipped with all clean, smart modern appliances plus an iron and ironing board too. The bathroom was perfect, the bedroom while a touch on the small side features an amazingly comfy bed. Theres a hairdryer in the bedroom also. The wi-fi enabled smart TV in the front room is a big plus point!!! The only downsides are the view from the back window that looks into a scenic lake, has to look past the downstairs tearoom’s two red biffa bins, an old wheel barrow and a pile of bricks - however after reading about the recent flooding in the area i’m sure it’s something that’s due to be resolved. The tea room underneath can be quite noisy during the day with bumps and bangs but it’s peacefully quiet in the night and i suppose having a fantastic tea room that serves amazing breakfasts is a small price to pay! other notable mentions; stumbling distance of three pleasant pubs and there’s also a small convenience store next door on the other side which makes up for the fact there’s no supermarket for miles! Excellent place and definitely amazing value for money :)

  • This from now on will be my destination whenever I'm in the lakes area, the accommodation was immaculate, the detail was the same, the freshly bought and cooked breakfast was a great start to the day, meg enjoyed it too, Sindy treated us like family from the first minute to the last. Nothing was too much trouble, offers of washing clothes to trying the local honey to walk maps to sandwiches made for the days walking. Considering they have only been on air bb for a short time they have perfected the gap between guests staying in your house and a normal b and b, hope that makes sense. Excellent set up, lovely host. You don't need to change anything. Danny.

    Danny2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • New, comfortable, magnificent breakfast. Pub within an easy walk, Lake Diatrict a short drive. Highly recommend this B&B.

    Rusty2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Terry and Sindy are lovely hosts and we really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was exactly as described, we particularly liked the nice, comfortable bed. It was a real treat to be able to experience Terry and Sindy's own 'homegrown' honey for breakfast. We appreciated the great pub recommendation too and would love to stay again.

    Andrew2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Terry and Sindy were very friendly, with good suggestions on where to go. Terry explained to us about his bees and we tried some of his delicious honey. Good location, close to pooley bridge. Would love to stay again.

  • A very warm and welcoming place to stay! We were very looked after and the accomodation was spotless. A very comfy, homely accomodation to come back to after a walk in the mountians. Breakfast is 10/10.

  • Had a lovely time! Fantastic hosts. Very friendly and helpful. I know all about bees too now. Strangely off to St Bees today!!!Great cooked breakfast! Arguably the cleanest place I've ever been to. Would love to visit again.

  • Room was extremely clean and tidy, good location, great local pub and a lovely welcome - highly recommended!

    Sarah2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Terry & Sindy for one night in their lovely little B&B and were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Terry & Sindy are more than capable hosts and extremely nice people to boot. Case in point, Sindy was kind enough to drive us into Pooley Bridge to meet our friends as we were running late on arrival. 'La Ruche' is more of a retreat than a B&B. Extremely quiet, both beautifully furnished and decorated, and just about as comfortably appointed as it's possible to be. Your room is a bedroom/bathroom combo linked to the house but completely self contained, with your own key to come and go as you please via your own private doorway. There's plenty of wardrobe space/drawers (if you're planning on staying for a good few nights) a good selection of tea & coffee, and a very stylish wide screen TV. The en-suite shower room/toilet was exceptionally clean and stylishly set out (just the ticket after a hard days slog on the fells) with wonderfully fluffy towels and a heated towel rail. As for the bed? To call it "comfortable" just wouldn't do it justice! We had a superb nights sleep & honestly didn't want to get up in the morning :) Breakfast is served in the main house, with a positive array of options to suit your individual taste. We plumped for the full English, and it was fantastic. The view from your table is green in the extreme, due to a combination of both sweeping fields, and Terry & Sindy's beautifully landscaped garden. Also, having the ability to park on the driveway is a real plus as parking in and around Pooley Bridge is rather expensive and at a premium to say the least. What really made La Ruche special for us was the attention to every detail and Sindy & Terry's genuine warmth & hospitality (musn't forget Meg the collie either!). We highly recommend La Ruche & will most definitely return in the future. Sindy & Terry, thanks for having us, keep up the good work, and take care. The very warmest of regards, Peter & Clare.

My place is close to two country pubs, outdoor swimming pool, village shop, Lowther Castle, Penrith town centre. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, spectacular views, lovely walks, lots of outside space. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).
  • Abbi's Caravan is amazing! so much space! brilliant kitchen and facilities! and the shower is perfect! with seats!! we stayed in winter and it was more than warm enough with central heating and a fire in the lounge! Great location for visiting lowther castle as we did. Great pubs nearby for dinner/breakfast. We will defintely be back. Would be amazing in the summer with the decking all around and v private! Although we only stayed for one night there is enough room and facilities in the caravan to stay for a proper weeks holiday. Would be a great base for a lake district holiday. And everything was so incredibly clean!! We can't wait to come back!

    Nicola2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Abbis place, it's very well appointed and clean and askham is a lovely village where you can truly escape. We had everything we needed and would love to stay again

  • Great, neat as a pin caravan, behind a lovely local pub, and with great views out to the fields. Perfect for exploring the local area, 5 minutes from Lowther Castle and lovely walks all around. Askham Hall was opposite and we were attending a wedding so was perfect for our stay.

    Jane2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Abbi's overnight for a weekend break. The caravan was really nice and had more amenities than what we expected ( HD TV, Washing machine and gas stove). Its proximity to Lowther castle and surroundings make the location attractive. Abbi had left proper instructions for check in .We had some teething trouble with the heaters not working but Abbi was kind enough to come in person and get this sorted. Overall a nice stay and good value for your money.

  • Clean and tity caravan in a quiet place, CLOSE TO pooley bridge WHERE you enjoy the best view of the lakes.

    Jessie2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Abbi’s place in October 2017 as we were attending a wedding at Askham Hall. The hall was just across the road from the caravan park behind a pub where you could get a lovely meal and drink. There wasn’t any noise at all from the pub. The caravan had two bedrooms which were very comfortable, the mattresses were just right and the bedding was lovely and soft. There was a hairdryer and toiletries in the bathrooms. The decor in the caravan was bright and cheerful and the kitchen was well equipped. All in all a very comfortable visit and we would highly recommend it.

Friendly stylish + cosy double in a converted 18th Century watermill. In an idyllic riverside setting outside the villages of Sockbridge + Tirril, 3 miles from M6 J40. Artists' studios and gallery on site, locally sourced food, home baking, log burner in guest sitting room. Large adjacent private bathroom with power shower. We regret we don't accept pets.
There has been a mill at Sockbridge for at least 250 years, so we are lucky to live in a beautiful location steeped in the History of Cumberland. The surrounding countryside is teeming with wildlife, and visitors can go for pleasant walks by the River Eamont. Gary and I are both practising artists, and we are very happy to show visitors around our two studios on-site, where we make paintings and prints. It goes without saying that you will be treated to a lovely breakfast including home-made bread, and locally sourced produce!
Sockbridge Mill is located next to the River Eamont which you can access via a public bridal path that runs past the house. There is abundant wildlife here, and you may see herons, woodpeckers, stoats, hares, and occasionally red squirrels. The villages of Sockbridge and Tirril are a 20 minute walk away, which is perfect for a trip to the village pub for dinner or a pint. Lake Ullswater is just 3 miles away.
  • Beautiful secluded B&B in an ideal location to explore the Northern Lakes! We were made to feel at home right away by fantastic hosts. The Hayloft bedroom was lovely with a very comfy double bed and the private bathroom was beautifully decorated. Brilliant shower as well! Oh, and the Full English in the morning was simply amazing. Thanks for having us, and hopefully we'll be back soon!

  • My husband and I both had a great stay with Debby and Gary. We appreciated their generous hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk through the fields to the local pub and the general tranquillity of the area.

  • We were after a secluded and quiet break in the Lake District, and this Mill and our hosts certainly delivered! Everything from the homecooked breakfast to the bedroom (as described, and complete with mill stream just outside our window) was absolutely lovely. Debby and Gary (and their family) were very welcoming hosts, and were able to recommend great places for us to eat and visit. Would recommend to anyone and hope to visit again. We also did a print making workshop with Debby on our third morning, which was great fun, and would definitely recommend.

    Becca2015-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • The Sockbridge Mill is a real gem, a historic building lovingly restored, with lots of original features, great location for the lakes but tucked away as a genuine place of retreat and restoration. Debby and Gary gave us a friendly welcome, happily shared knowledge of the local area and made suggestions which were really helpful. Their home is a delight, beautiful decor, comfy bed, super shower, delicious breakfast every morning, couldn't ask for more!

We offer a warm welcome for families or friends to our Grade 11 listed cottage, in the picturesque village of Askham, in the quiet NE corner of the Lake District National Park. We are half way between Ullswater (5miles) and Haweswater (6miles), within easy access of all the Park's mountains, lakes and fells, with a wide variety of outdoor activities and good village pubs close by. Lowther Castle with its gardens, cafe and childrens play castle is a 15 minute walk away. It really is a home away from home, with all you need to create your peaceful and memorable holiday in the Lake District National Park! We have equipped and decorated the cottage for you to relax and unwind in with traditional wooden beams, quirky rooms and fabulous view across the village. We have combined antique and contemporary furniture and paintings in a traditional Lakeland country style. You'll love the stylish master bedroom with kingsize bed, the pretty double room with basin and wardrobe space. A quaint third bedroom has a single adult bed is available on request. Walkers and cyclists can explore the many footpaths and quiet country lanes from our door, without having to use the car. Our scenery is crisscrossed with a patchwork of ancient drystone walled 'driftways' leading down to the meandering River Lowther, or up onto Askham Fell above the village. In 30 mins walk from the house, you'll overlook spectacular views of Ullswater (only 3miles across the fell) and it's surrounding mountains, all the way to the majestic Blencathra in the north. You can also explore a group of prehistoric cairns and standing stones left by Helton's stone age settlers. For families, 2 minutes walk from the house is Askham Open air swimming pool which is great for relaxing in the summer. If you have children to entertain, where better than a pretty mile walk from the cottage across the deer park of Lowther Castle, to the amazing new Lost Castle adventure playground and cafe in the woods behind it. On your way back you'll need to allow time for a drink in either of our 2 great traditional pubs in the village.
Askham has long been regarded as one of the region's loveliest villages. The main street's ample verges and fine trees are flanked by a charming array of picturesque cottages set at differing angles and elevations. It forms an attractive avenue, extending from the River Lowther uphill to open moorland. Nearby is the great Estate of Lowther Park, seat of the Earls of Lonsdale whose ancestral home is currently undergoing major regeneration. The village has a church, inns, shop/post office and is very accessible, being only a few minutes drive from Penrith, the M6 (Jns. 39 & 40) and Ullswater.
  • Jacqui was a fantastic host, very quick to respond and provided us with all the information that we needed and her cottage was delightful. According to our Italian Au pair, the cottage and Askham village were like something out of a movie - very picturesque especially in the unexpected snow! We would definitely return and will be recommending the cottage to friends.

    Peter2018-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jaqui's cottage is a little gem of a place, so cute. We were there for four nights and enjoyed our stay. Jacqui gave us excellent directions and information about the area and there were lots of brochures and leaflets in the cottage with further information. Although our weather was poor, we still enjoyed the area, plenty to see and do. The bed was very comfortable and it was so quiet at night so we had undisturbed sleep, lovely! The cottage is small but has everything you would need (plenty tea, coffee, cleaning materials etc but no milk, bread, butter) It is an old property with lots of character but as with lots of old properties, there is a bit of damp, I daresay our wet weather did not help things! Despite this the house was very cosy, the heating worked perfectly and there was plenty of hot water. Overall a lovely little cottage with character. Jacqui was quick to respond when we had a querie about the shower.

    Shirley2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house is amazing, quirky, old, and stylish in equal measure. Jacqui provides a great collection of information and maps of the area. There are two great pubs and a shop with a small cafe in the village. The local amenities, sights and walks are great. Jacqui provides lots of information before the visit and is only a quick message away during the visit.

  • We have just spent a lovely week in White Cottage which is cosy and comfortable and in a beautiful setting with easy access to all areas of The Lake District. Beautiful walks from cottage door and very nice food and service in the village pub close by. Plenty to do in the area. Generous and communicative hosts who made our birthday celebrations a great treat. Hope to return.

    Hugh2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Jacqui's cosy cottage, everything we needed was there and we love the area. Many thanks, we will be back again soon.

  • House was warm , clean and inviting. On arrival. Jacqui had gone to a lot of trouble making sure things were right for us having two Autistic Adults with us . She had gone as far as asking about decorations and candle smells These things are important to us as a family and very heart-warming. You would not need anything other than yourselves and whatever provisions you would require. Instruction clear and even when I needed new light bulbs and batteries all easy to find. A lovely stay and when we had a little Hick up it was dealt with immediately. Shower in down stairs bathroom has great pressure. All good Considering it was holiday time Jacqui was more than happy to stay in touch .

    Jeanette2018-01-03T00:00:00Z

  • Right from our first contact with Liz, both my husband and I knew that this Air bnb would be special--and it was! Liz is a highly accomplished, knowledgeable and interesting woman who made both of us feel welcome and at ease immediately. Our conversations together were entertaining, informative and humorous. Liz treated us almost like family and was concerned that we were well looked after at all times. She was a huge help in letting us know the special sights we might see in and around Penrith, and the Lake District in general, and gave us many helpful maps and books to take with us in the car. Our breakfasts were always satisfying and delicious. Of special interest are her gardens, which are like botanical gardens in the variety and beauty of her flowers and bushes, as well as in her collection of vegetables. The house is large and lovely inside, and our bedroom and private bathroom were excellent. So all in all, we enjoyed immensely our stay with this very caring and wonderful woman, and certainly highly recommend her Air bnb to everyone.

  • Liz was a wonderful host, we had a great stay and Liz went above and beyond. The directions provided meant it was a very easy journey and a welcome flapjack on arrival is always a plus! Thanks again! Steph and Niall

  • Liz has been a perfect host. She gave us so many good hints for walks in the Lakes. Without her knowledge and her useful maps of the area we would have missed a lot of beautiful places and walks. The room was very cosy and the breakfast with cereals, fresh fruit and toast suited our taste :-) Her cat Tommy is very cute. If one wants to visit the Northern Lakes and searches a good starting point we definitely would recommend her home. Thank you Liz, it was a great holiday! Jana&Matthias

  • Liz was an outstanding host. Made us feel very welcomed and nothing was too much bother. An excellent conversationalist. Gave us very detailed and useful information about the area. The house was just perfect, very quiet and peaceful. Such a comfortable and cosy home. Her garden was a real find, with many seating areas and so many plants and pots; a must for anyone that is a keen gardener. It could have been exhibited at Chelsea. It was a wonderful stay, just wished we had stayed longer.

    Andrew2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a stay for our friends to stay at Liz's B&B for when they were visiting us. They thought it was absolutely lovely and would highly recommend everything about it. The house is lovely, the room was lovely and the bathroom etc all clean and today and very nice quality. However best of all was meeting Liz who was so welcoming and made their stay excellent. In summary thank you so much Liz, you and your place is brilliant.

  • Liz place is clean and cosy. You can reach the bus down to the lakes or to Penrith in about five minutes walk, although Liz was so kind to drive us now and then. She helped us with plenty of local knowledge and maps to find the right ways where to do some walks. We had a nice breakfast there as well. Recommended!

  • My partner and I took our 16 week old son on his first trip away to the Lake District, we stay with Liz and we couldn't have asked for a better host. Her home is lovely and welcoming, like its owner! Liz made us a lovely breakfast each morning & is very knowledgeable about the local area and is happy help you plan trips. We would stay with Liz again, if we're in the area.

    Sarah2016-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Liz is an absolutely sterling host - captures the spirit of what AirBNB can be at its best. She loves the Lake District and shares the beautiful walks and places with a generosity that is truly special. On a practical level, all the communication was easy and organised, and the space itself is terrific - you feel like you are in a family home in the best possible way, like you're being looked after by a very thoughtful and kind relative. This means: the bedroom and bathroom are very clean and comfortable and well set up for guests -- great bed, good modern shower, very relaxing and homey. Breakfast is delicious and perfect -- she offered us lovely muesli, good tea and coffee, great bread, home made marmalade, and for a bank holiday treat, pain au chocolat! She had all these great insider tips on which walks might suit us, showed us on the map and in the wainwright book, and loaned us her map for the particular magical hill (High Raise - go there!) The best thing was that she picked us up from the station and the drove us to our hikes like it was no big deal, but it was beyond the call of duty and really made a difference for us. We even all went for a walk together on the morning we left and it was such a privilege to share this very beautiful place with such an enthusiastic, kind and welcoming insider. Thanks so much Liz!
