  • This location was perfect for my mom's visit to her old home town. It was impeccably clean, great location, the family welcoming and Deborah was an amazing hostess. We can't thank her enough for making my mom's first AirBnB experience exceptional!

  • Deborah has a lovely home. It is very clean, quiet and comfortable. The room is very nice for 1 and cozy, but sufficient for two. We arrived pretty late (a little after 10 PM) and Deborah was very nice about it. We left a jacket behind, and she was quick to let us know. This was GREATLY APPRECIATED, because we were able to retrieve it before starting a long drive home. Deborah and her husband were both very nice and interesting to talk to. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the hospitality! We would stay here again!

  • Close to town. Great host. Speedy WiFi.

    Lane2018-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable, cozy room in an adorable neighborhood. The views out your window are stunning! From having a cold bottle of water and the wifi password waiting for me at check-in to coffee and fun conversation in the morning, Deborah was wonderful. Highly recommend!

    Leah2017-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy stay in a family home! I spent a night at Deborah's after my camping adventure upstate and before heading to the city. Proximity to the train station is a great pro, although it's a tad too far to walk with heavy luggage. Deborah made me feel wonderfully comfortable, answered all my messages promptly and made sure I had everything I needed, including any amount of bottled water and something between my teeth in the morning. I loved doing yoga in her garden - watched by rabbits. Value for money is great and while this is not the kind of antiseptically clean show-house experience you get with some full-time hosts, you get something better: a peaceful stay in a real family home who will treat you as one of their own.

My home is a 4 bedroom space, where I live with my 2 dogs and some of the time- my kids. It's really close to the W. Dover rd trailhead of the appalachian trail and the quaint village of Pawling NY. Hikers enjoy putting their tent up on my deck and luxuriating in a hot shower, comfortable living room with fireplace, wiFi, washer/dryer and a propane grill on the deck! My home enjoys lots of beautiful natural light, plant food and a zen feel. I don't eat animal products nor drink alcohol or smoke.
It's a quiet residential neighborhood built around 2 pond / lakes. 2 kayaks and bikes for your use.

  • Very comfortable stay with two adorable doggies. Scott is a great host with lots of local info on the area.

    Ruth2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Scott has a lovely home, but what is truly special is how great of a host he is. He went above and beyond to make my friends and I feel at home. It was so fun to get to know him! Would 100% recommend!!

    Emma2018-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Scott is a very hospitable and knowledgeable host. He was accommodating when it came to check-in and throughout my stay, especially with communication. Pawling is a quaint, small town that has exceptional views when you need green space and fresh air away from NYC. It’s the type of town you leave the doors open all day! I stayed in the upstairs guest room and felt very comfortable. The two dogs are so sweet and they were nice to have around and got along with my little pup. Scott’s bnb is a destination for those seeking rest and rejuvenation. The patio outside was refreshing and all the knowledge he shared about the area and about wholistic, plant-based diet, was a plus. Hopefully I will be back for another weekend!

  • This house was a great space. We enjoyed the outside and sun room gathering spaces. We found our stay at this home very charming. It was also largely kid proof for two toddlers! The owners were incredibly responsive and helpful. We'd stay here again!

  • We stayed in this lovely home in mid July, part way on our journey of moving from Texas to Maine. We arrived after sun down so we didn't get to appreciate the beauty of the property and the surrounding area until the following morning. The house, property and surrounding areas are all beautiful! Everything you need is here, the A/C worked perfectly, the rooms have lovely beds and linens so there's nothing you need to bring. There's a spacious sun room to enjoy too. Come relax and enjoy your stay! We'd highly recommend this place.

  • Nice house in beautiful area.

    Skippers2017-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house. It felt like home immediately - it was nicely furnished, but did not have any personal items around. Our 8 year old and 2 year old LOVED the 3 acres and went outside everyday to explore. We would highly recommend this location to anyone exploring or touring any sites or complexes in the area. We will make sure to book this location in the future.

  • This house and location were exactly what we needed for our family time away. The space was very clean and had everything we needed for the night. It is even nicer in person than it looks in the photos. We really enjoyed the sunroom and the fire pit.

Secluded and serene lake house located located in private community at the end of a private road (second to last house on the block) within the Carmel Hamlet with indoor spa room, wood-burning fireplace in the front living room and a gas fireplace which is located in the large den. The gas fire place is the only heat source for the den, formal dinning room and spa room. *Holidays require a 3 night minimum
This 1800 sqft cottage style home is located at the end of a private community rd. It is the second to last house on the block and has views of the peaceful lake. Summer disclaimer the lake is not for swimming, due to a lot of lilly pads, we use white pond multiple use area located 3.3 miles from the house. The home doesn't have Central Air, Just 2 window units in the master bedroom and the second bedroom from June-August. Most of the rooms do have fans and the house is covered by trees and the mountain behind it so it tends to stay cool, especially at night. White Pond multiple use area -3.3 miles - swim, fish, hike, tube, kayak, take a sail boat or any unmotorized boat in this lake. Ninham Mountain- 4.9 miles -many hiking trails as well as at the top peek there is a fire tower you can climb up to see breath taking views of Putnam County. Tilly Foster Farm- 11 miles-Museum, Farm, Trail, and Culinary school that has a Farm to table restaurant open on weekends. Chuang Yen Monastery- 7 miles- Buddhist Temple and beautiful peaceful grounds and gift shop, get your dose of good luck here. Thunder Ridge ski area-9.3 miles- skiing in winter and paintball in summer. Putnam County Bike trail - goes throughout various areas in Putnam. Many more suggestions in my guest book!
  • This past weekend, myself and 4 friends stayed at Raymond's lake house. We had a wonderful time hanging out at the house, cooking dinners, eating out on the deck, watching movies and taking a dip in the hot tub. The space was great with enough room for everyone and plenty of activities. The area is also beautiful and is great if you enjoy walking in beautiful woods. I would highly recommend this for a weekend stay! Thanks, Raymond!

    Tess2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Over looks the lake and quite. I highly recommend this if you work hard in NYC and want to get away after a had day.

    Barry2018-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don’t do this place justice. The hot tub/spa is perfect. We were a group of 6 people and were able to all fit snugly. I really liked that the spa is connected to the house so we weren’t freezing when going back and forth. The rooms are warm and the beds are comfortable. There was a Christmas tree that was decorated in the living room with tons of games and a bar. There are two fireplaces, one gas and one natural. Raymond filled the gas propane tank for the grill, set up the fireplace with a starter log and extra wood and had the hot tub ready for us on arrival. We were running late for checkin but he was so accommodating and understanding. The house has views of a lovely snow covered lake. As noted in the description, the dining and living rooms don’t have heat but there’s a gas fireplace in the living room was sufficient to heat the rooms. We’re excited to come back for skiing in a few months and hiking in the spring!

    Stella2017-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don't do this place justice; it is absolutely beautiful, tucked away in a private area with beautiful views. There is a little shopping center not too far from the house where you can get anything you need - everyone there is so friendly! Raymond is incredibly helpful and kind; we asked to drop our items off prior to check-in and he was flexible with that. This home has a great setup and the hot tub is next to the living/play room which is filled with games and large sofa. The dining room table is large and we were able to close the doors to different areas of the house if needed. The porch is beautiful and a great place to sit, and enjoy the nature or even do some yoga. I highly recommend staying at Raymond's place!

  • Excellent host and a very pleasant stay.

    George2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I stayed for a long weekend and we couldn’t have found a better place! Raymond was so nice and attentive. The place was a million times better than we thought. We were already planning our next stay before we left.

    Laura2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond was absolutely an exceptional host from the minute we booked our reservation to the time we got there. Raymond made this short trip for my fiancé and I memorable. The area was super private and quite. We are very grateful for his hospitality and definitely will use his beautiful place again in the near future.

Take a moment to enjoy the lake... Indulge yourself in the breathtaking views of this lakefront cottage, accompanied by the sense of tranquility that make this a perfectly relaxed getaway from the city. This small yet intimate cottage retreat, truly make it possible. Enjoy a pleasant quiet read, fire-up the barbecue or step out onto the lake for some fishing, rowing, kayak, swimming or just taking the paddle boat out at your leisure.
  • Anne's cottage was absolutely perfect. It was adorable, clean and cozy. The lake was such a perk. Nothing like drinking coffee in the morning on one of two balconies facing the lake. Anne was super commutative and reached out right away to me. If you want a nice getaway not too far from the city you should definitely book. We will be returning.

    Dana2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Anne’s place is my happy place. This was our second time staying there and not our last. The house is designed for comfort and has everything you would want. The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils to make any meal. All great quality. Has a washer and dryer so going home with clean clothes is wonderful. Wireless Internet is strong and has a large screen TV. The bathroom is really pretty with plenty of soap, shampoo, toilet paper, hair blower, thick towels and exhaust fan so mirrors don’t get fogged up. The house is surrounded by trees and bushes so you have complete privacy and the lake is steps from the back porch. Has a outdoor grill and fire pit that the kids loved to make s’mores with. There are adult and kids lifejackets and 2 kayaks and a rowboat. The lake is gorgeous and can be seen from the house through the huge windowed walls. This is a place to really relax and have the comforts of home and enjoy the surroundings. If needed anything, Anne answered texts right away and was very concerned about your comfort. Upon arrival we were greeted with a bucket of snacks that she left for the kids. Have no concern, this is a great vacation house and Anne is a great host!

    Diana2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was very nice and made us feel like home. She made sure we had averything we need. We felt a lot of privacy which is excellent. Very relax location. Everything was clean, and well organized. The house felt fresh. Decks are excellent place to enjoy the view and have some wine or just seat next to the fire or even do some grilling. Anne also provided access to the private beach which also has ocasional activities like movies for kids. We enjoyed kayaking, and the access to the lake. Great host!!!

    Omar2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was the most amazing host, she made sure we had a great stay in her house. Went up to CT from New York for a fishing weekend with my parents. The house is located on a nice small lake with great views, just a 15 minute drive from Danbury and Lake Candlewood. Amenities include good AC, fully equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and very comfy beds :) Anne was very helpful and sweet when we had to check-out late, she quickly made arrangements to accommodate our wish.

  • Beautiful cottage on a picturesque lake. Everything needed for a simple stay, with nicely appointed kitchen (no full-size stove), comfortable linens and good technology.

    Christian2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • House was exactly what I was looking for and so much better in person. The host was everything we could have asked for: on time, thorough, available and accomodating. Will definitely be going back.

    Ilda2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Anne's home. It's very comfortable and the view to the lake is wonderful- especially at sunset. We definitely plan to return for a weekend in the future!

    Eric2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was very accommodating. I was not able to make it to the house until later on at night and Anne met me without a problem. This house is a great place to just relax and get away from the stress of life for a little. I would recommend renting from Anne to everyone!

Come and enjoy our rustic 1830's farm house set on a three and half acre knoll. It's the perfect place to relax and connect with nature. The lawn is a welcoming place to lounge in the hammock or star gaze.
This space features cozy spaces and lots of character. The home was built in 1830 and has been lovingly restored.
We are in a beautiful rural setting that sits close to the Ice Pond Preserve. A trail head to a gorgeous hike is about 1/2 mile up the road.
  • The 1830s house was very unique we enjoyed staying there very much. We especially liked the wood burning stove as we were there in the winter. Chris was very accommodating. We would defiantly stay again.

    Russ2018-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures really don't do this house justice! The house and yard are absolutely beautiful, and Chris and Melinda were great hosts. The house had everything we could want, and the guide that they left us had wonderful suggestions for trails, restaurants, and sights in the area. There was plenty of space for a group of 5 to sleep, and they had every amenity ready and waiting for us. We loved our stay at this house!!

    Erin2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Chris, Megan and Melinda are amazing hosts with a beautiful home. Even in snow and rain, it was cozy and welcoming. We can't wait to come back in warmer weather.

    Jennifer2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The home is, simply, magical. Tucked away and surrounded by tall trees, you really feel like you're in a little hidden wonderland. The house itself is lovely -- cozy, yet spacious, with a lot of charm still left from its days as a farmhouse. WE came up from Brooklyn with two families -- four adults and three kids -- and we felt immediately at home. We'd definitely come back again!

    Dan2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • You can feel the love in this home! Love of family, home, yard, music and travel. We had a fantastic stay at Chris's house. The location was extremely private - but still in a residential place. The house had everything you need for a comfortable stay... even Alexa (Amazons speaker/music player). We loved getting visits from Lola, the sweet cat throughout the day. Chris provided very helpful information on restaurants, markets, and things to do. The kitchen was fully stocked - grill and all! Great & easy communication. Very clean & would be happy to visit again. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

    Chelsea2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a weekend with my friends. It comfortably fits all 7 guests. We had a great time, enjoyed the fire pit in the backyard, and communication with the hosts was great! Definitely recommend if you are looking for a nice place to get away for the weekend!

    Heidy2018-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • I came up for a small gathering with friends, seeking a restful weekend and definitely found it here! The overall experience with Chris was wonderful. He was very accommodating and clear with communication. The property is lovely with lots of options. A great pace to cook a big meal in the grand kitchen and eat in the proper dining room. And the biggest bonus was the adorable and sweet cat Lola!

This spectacular Architect designed home provides visitors with the perfect vacation experience, whether they're spending quality time indoors, or outside enjoying the two ponds linked by a waterfall, or the lush gardens. The house is situated high up on the mountain, in the sumptuous Quaker Hill section of Pawling, on a back country dirt road, where the only sounds are of the wind in the trees and the rushing water of the waterfall. Four airy and comfortable bedrooms means that the house can sleep ten guests. My study serves as a 5th bedroom. The second floor master bedroom has a private bathroom and study, as well as a balcony looking out over the living room. There are also two additional bedrooms on the main floor with a shared bathroom, and another bedroom with a private bath upstairs. Five pairs of French doors overlook the garden and pond. A full elegant wood and stainless steel kitchen, complete with cherry wood counters, full over, stainless steel refrigerator and microwave completes the picture. But that's not all - there also a center Island counter and a triple set of french doors opening up onto the deck overlooking the Upper Pond and waterfall, creating the perfect outside dining space. The house is fully loaded with modern must-haves, including cable TV and wifi , so you can stay in touch when you want and need to. This oasis definitely provides a slice of country living, but you are just five miles from the train station and the town, where you can take advantage of the local shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as being close to some of the best golf courses. There is an additional maid service fee of $150.00. No air conditioning in this mountain home.
  • A beautiful property, a wonderful host and a magical weekend away. My friends and I spent the weekend cooking, exploring the property and drinking red wine by the fireplace. The kitchen was magnificent and exceeded all of our expectations. I would definitely recommend this property for a relaxed weekend getaway with a bunch of friends. I could not have hoped for a more perfect result! Thank you Bob.

    Renee2015-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at Bob's over Christmas. The house has all the modern comforts of a new construction but is tasteful and charming like a traditional New England home. The kitchen is very well equipped with all new appliances. Lot's of windows and French doors means you feel connected with the outside in most areas of the house. I'd say it is nicer in reality than it looks in the photos and I'd definitely recommend to a friend.

    David2015-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Bob’s place. The property was gorgeous and as pictured! The ponds on property were beautiful and had frogs in them! It was clean, had towels and a great kitchen with lots of cookware. There were lots of places to sit outside on the porches. He was very responsive to any questions we had. There was no ac but he supplied lots of fans which made the indoors cool. There are a lot of bugs since its upstate so bring bug spray!

    Ivy2018-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Bob's home is large and charming. Due to a big storm in the area we experienced a power failure but despite being on vacation at the beach, he was very responsive and we got the problem solved as quickly as possible. I highly recommend this home for a lovely stay in the area.

    Ellen2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Bob's house. The house is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by woods and two lovely ponds. Laura met us at the house and was extremely helpful with everything. We wished we had more time to spend there to appreciate the surrounding nature and the town. We'd definitely stay at the house again.

  • A gorgeous cozy farmhouse near horse farms and cute towns. An he and a half from NYC. Beautiful pond views from bedroom and kitchen, and sprawling grounds to enjoy. Loved it!

  • Bob's home and the grounds were even more beautiful than I expected from the photos. Prompt and helpful communication, very easy check in, and a wonderful stay. Thanks!

A spacious waterfront home with incredible lake views, large decks and direct water access. Only 90 minutes from the city. An ideal getaway year-round with swimming, kayaking, and canoeing in the summer, beautiful foliage in the fall. 3 Fireplaces
The Space: This is a 3000 square foot lake house directly on the water. The house has 3 bedrooms and can easily sleep 6 people with a king and two queen size beds. There are 2.5 bathrooms including a master bathroom with a tub and shower. The large kitchen is stocked with everything you need for cooking and/or eating. The house also has two very comfortable living rooms and a dining area. Each floor has a working fireplace. The house gets a lot of natural light from the water-facing windows in every room which are perfect for enjoying the magnificent sunsets. Cable, phone and wifi are included in your stay...if you can stay out of the water long enough to use them! There is also a laundry room which you are welcome to use. Pictures are slightly out of date: The house still has the same number of couches and a large dining room table but the ones photographed have been replaced. The Lake: Whaley Lake is 252 square acres. The lake is surrounded by private property with one public area for rope swinging. The house has a large multi-level private deck with direct water access. There are kayaks, a canoe, paddle board, fishing poles and floaties for your use and enjoyment on the lake. The Area: The Appalachian Trail and other hiking options are only minutes from the house by car. There is food and shopping nearby with several supermarkets to choose from as well as local farm stands. There are also dining out options that are just a short drive away including the award winning McKinney and Doyle. The Patterson or Pawling Metro-North train is nearby for an easy commute to and from the city.
  • This house is awesome! It has views of the lake from every level, an amazingly well stocked kitchen, and is close enough to Beacon and other areas to make a day trip of it. It was our second stay and it was perfect.

    Zoe2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel's lake house is fantastic. We brought our seven-week old baby and four friends for Memorial Day. The house and view are even better than the photos on the listing. We spent the weekend swimming and grilling, and made the easy trip to Beacon for a day at DIA. Highly recommended!

    Stephen2014-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the best Airbnb experience I have ever had. The house is gorgeous and clean. The lake and kayaks, etc. were wonderful. Daniel is very responsive and accommodating, and thankfully not the kind of airbnb host who makes you clean up everything even though you have paid a cleaning fee - much appreciated! We would absolutely love to come back.

    Laura2015-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay. This is our third summer at Whaley lake and the house just gets better. They have made improvements each summer (new beds, new large BBQ, more inflatables for the lake). Perfect weekend escape, 1h30 train ride from New York City and a short taxi ride from Pawling.

    Anne-Lise2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was wonderful. Everything was as described and the view was even more amazing than the pictures suggest!

    Alex2015-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel's Lakehouse was even more gorgeous than the photos! We were a group of six and had more than enough space in the three story house. We happened to rent the place during a record breaking heat wave so spent most of the daytime cooling off in the lake, the house cools down quite a bit a night so not having aircon was not a problem. Highlights included the multilevel deck with four different types of deck chairs, floaties enough for six people, kayaks and BBQ. Even the neighbors were super friendly. Would definitely rent again and recommend to others!

    Emily2013-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • I had the most fantastic time at Daniel's lovely home on Whaley Lake! There were 6 of us staying there - plenty of space for everyone. If you like to cook, the kitchen is huge with all cookware essentials. The lake is beautiful and we certainly utilized the kayaks and floaties! We can't wait to come back! A great getaway from the city. Some of us took the train into Patterson which was 10 minutes from the house - just call a cab in advance if you don't have a car for pick up!

    Catherine2015-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • The lake house was beautiful, very clean, and comfortable. Host was communicative and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Magical... breathtaking... a great place to relax. If you want to kick back away from it all, here you go. Listen to fish jump and birds sing in serene tranquility. The house is large and spacious with room for everyone. High cathedral ceilings, a screened porch and giant deck on a private, secluded lake with 300' of lakefront. No motorboats or jet skis. Big living room, dining room, family room and bedrooms, two baths, laundry and fully complemented eat-in kitchen with high-end appliances.
If you're looking for a quiet place surrounded by nature to spend time with family and friends without being disturbed by neighbors the setting is ideal. Lounge in the hammock. Paddle in the canoe. Go for a dip in the lake, take a hike, read a book or play a board game. It's all here ... without having to get in the car. The setting is a quiet, private community on a dead-end dirt road, so there's no traffic to speak of. It's just you and nature. The neighboring houses are hidden behind trees. The view from the deck across the lake is all forest. The loudest thing you're likely to hear is the mail truck or a beaver's tail thump. It's very dark at night and great for star-gazing. AIRBNB has several places listed of varying size, in different settings, in the area. They range from cozy to spacious, and include lake-front homes, as well as houses in private lakeside communities, and others in forested woodlands to suit individual tastes and budgets. This is a large house on a small, quiet, private lake with no motorized vehicles. Sometimes people think it's on Candlewood Lake, which is an 11 mile public lake with motorboats. Not so. Here, it is very quiet, with a ridge line of trees that buffer sound and light, blocking out the outside world, so you can see the stars, and you fall asleep to croaking frogs, or silence, to wake up to the sounds of nature ... instead of neighborhood activities. This house is large with plenty of room for everyone to find a comfortable corner to zone out, read a book or listen to music without disturbing others. Even on a rainy day, there's plenty of space for everyone to find a quiet spot to play cards or get out a board game. A variety of diversions are provided. The eat-in kitchen sits four and is fully-outfitted with high-end appliances and all the essential tools and utensils. The Master Bedroom has a "king-size" bed (actually, two twins joined side-by-side to form a "king size"). The adjoining upstairs bedroom has a single bed and a roll-out single trundle bed. The downstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and the downstairs family room has a fold-out queen sofa-bed. Altogether, the house sleeps eight. CALENDAR & RATES: ~ The Base Rate is shown above, although AIRBNB's system does not allow for very much customization. ~ Minimum Stays are: - 4 days during the Summer; and, - 3 days in the Spring and Fall. ~ We generally do not rent in the Winter because of the snow, but if you wish to book a week or more, contact us with details. We do not offer discounts in Winter due to heating costs. ~ Pre-, Post- and In-Season discounts are offered for longer stays and are tabulated by AIRBNB's reservation system. ~ If you have any questions, please use the "CONTACT HOST" link on this page.
You can get all your provisions locally in Sherman, New Fairfield, New Milford, Paterson and/or Pawling. All 10-20 minutes by car. The town of Sherman, founded in 1802, is named after Roger Sherman (April 19, 1721 – July 23, 1793) a Founding Father of the United States. A self-taught lawyer and Statesman, he is the only person to have signed all four great state papers of the United States: the Continental Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. You can vIsit the Sherman Historical Society and The Old Store in the center of town to learn more. Sherman is a small, rural town off-the-beaten-track with easy access to New Milford and Kent which have art galleries, shops, dining, indoor/outdoor activities and nature preserves, etc. Grocery shopping is available in town and there are tennis courts and a playground by the school, which is down the road from the town beach on Candlewood Lake. Movies, bowling, restaurants and other activities are 20+ minutes away in New Milford, or a bit further in Danbury. Climbing on the old trains at the Danbury Railway Museum is a lot of fun for kids or all ages. The local papers list special events and performances throughout the area, and Daryl's House Club, in Pawling, is a well-known music venue that great bands and occasional headline acts. There are woodlands and hiking trails just down the road from the house (by the dam parking lot (go up the hill to the left) ... or at the end of the road (go to the right of the little gray pump house)). The Appalachian Trail cuts across the Housatonic River by Bull's Bridge in Kent (about 20 minutes away by car), and there's a nice swimming spot there in the Housatonic River on the western side of the covered bridge a short hike to the south. A canteen and snacks are recommended. The house is 10 minutes from Sherman town center and a 90-minute drive to midtown Manhattan. It's an easy NYC commute on Metro North Railroad to the Patterson or Southeast Stations (15 and 25 minutes respectively). Sherman, New Milford, Pawling, Brookfield, Ridgefield and Danbury have public and private golf courses and driving ranges. There are several Miniature Golf courses in the area as well. Easy day-trips include NYC for sightseeing or a show, ... or you can head west/north to Storm King, Dia-Beacon and the Innisfree Gardens. The last two are personal favorites and offer relatively flat ground for easy walks.
  • Cheiatopher's home was a unique, peaceful getaway in an absolutely STUNNING setting. Having coffee on the deck in the mornings, overlooking the pristine lake, was a treat and a special way to start our day! After we got used to the idea that they had no AC because it wasn't needed in this area of the country, we truly enjoyed sleeping with all the windows open, hearing the frogs at night and the geese in the morning. We loved watching the little beaver take his morning swim across the lake and lounging in the hammock under the night stars! Set back under a canopy of trees, this sweet home had everything we needed...and then some. Christopher was always quick to respond to any questions that I had. He sent a HUGE, EXTREMELY detailed Welcome Packet with information from reataraunts to hospitals. Christopher truly cares about his guest's Airbnb experience and was very attentive to our every need. This home is a must for anyone traveling to this neck of the woods! (Literally) I wish I could give it 10 stars! If you are reading this, STOP NOW, and book this home!

  • If you are looking for in escape from the city, this is your place. Chris's lake house is situated in a secluded part of Connecticut only 90 minutes from New York City. The lake house itself has everything you would need - Adirondack chairs, hammock, canoe, a beautiful deck, and an amazing private lake. If you are coming with a group, you'll be all set thanks to the ample space inside, the fully stocked kitchen, and other useful amenities, such as board games, books, and floaties for the lake. Chris was an excellent host. He made sure we had everything we needed a head of time, communicated with us throughout our trip, and checked in to make sure we were all set - plus got us fishing poles and lifevests to use when we requested them. I highly recommend staying here!

  • This is the quietest, most peaceful and nature AIRBNB I've ever stayed in and I and my kids were in need of all of that. It reminded me of my childhood summers in the '70s and I was glad I was able to give that to my kids for our stay. Christopher is a great communicator and wants to make sure you are all set in his house. I highly recommend this place as a getaway that is a close drive to the NYC metro area, we were lucky to score this place. On a dirt road, hardly any neighbors, incredible and surprising seclusion given it is in the middle of the Northeast. Swimming, star gazing, walking and hiking. I want to go back!

  • Pictures don’t really do the view justice, the property is gorgeous. We used the location to house family from out of town for a local wedding and slept 7 comfortably. Chris was an excellent host and extremely prompt in all his responses which was helpful. I loved the mid century modern decor. There are floats there to use in the lake, fishing poles and supplies, ample seating, and a fire pit with fire wood stocked. I especially recommend relaxing on the beautiful deck to overlook the lake. I would recommend this location for anyone who is staying in the area with family. Thanks Chris!

  • Great house! Lots of space for two families of 4. Peaceful lake with great views from the house’s very large upper deck.

  • We had an amazing time at Christopher’s house. The view is breath taking and the house is very confortable and clean. Christopher is a great host, very responsive and easy to deal with. We would love to come back again! Thank you again, Christopher!

    Baptiste And Claire2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home on a gorgeous lake! First of all, Chris was a fantastic host. He made himself available, before, during, and after our stay in the event any issue were to arise. A perfect place to take the family for a get away from the city. We visited in late July, and lake was a perfect temperature for swimming, canoeing, and fishing. The house was well stocked with several lake activity items including a canoe with oars floats, and noodles. Chris also included a beach pass for the local town beach in Sherman on nearby Candlewood Lake, but unfortunately it was closed during our only visit. Only a few cons regarding the house. First, if youre looking to stay connected, we got very little reception and the Wifi was a bit spotty in certain parts of the house. Secondly, at night make sure you keep the sliding door closed downstairs, as we found the screen lets in lots of flying critters. Overall a great experience I would recommend for anyone looking to spend some time away from it all.

    Mark2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Christopher was a great host, very helpful always a quick response to any questions we had. This place was so beautiful and peaceful! We just loved seating on the deck and enjoy the beauty of the lake. The house was very clean the pictures are very accurate. We were visiting from Florida for the weekend we went to New York City for a day and it was very easy to get there. I would highly recommend this house if you are looking to just get away, unplug and enjoy nature.

We love to share our home. We have a large family (and even larger extended family) and this house has given us many wonderful, fun memories. We would spend all our holidays here, and friends and family would join us from all over the country. Now that we travel more, it makes us happy to know other families can enjoy our home when we are gone.
Our home is perfect for the upcoming Winter Holiday Season! Nestled on a slope, you don't have to go far for some great sledding and peaceful winter hiking (toboggan, sleds, and snowshoes provided). Our home is also large enough for extended families to all stay together and celebrate the holidays under one roof. Just 15 minutes away you will also find Thunder Ridge, a modest ski slope great for families with little ones learning how to ski.
  • Melinda and Gabriel made my first airbnb experience a memorable one. It was such a pleasure booking with her. The house was not only stocked with all the basic necessities and more but typed out for us were pages of everything we needed to know (grocery store, who does and doesn't do take out, the WiFi password, etc) My companions and myself were so grateful for the opportunity to stay in her home. The house was extremely clean, the beds were so comfy, many of our light sleepers slept like a rock. She has a fire pit in the back, she even left us a bundle of wood. Melinda has a beautiful, spacious and inviting home. For our party of 9 we were grateful for the 3 1/2 baths in the home. Overall I can honestly say that you wold be missing out if you don't stay here. We had such an amazing time we will definitely book again with her. Melinda was incredibly gracious and easy to communicate with. She truly made us feel welcomed, we wish we didn't have to leave at the end of our stay. Melinda set the bar high! If you're ever looking to stay in this area or want to be within minutes of nearby towns, this is the place to stay. I highly recommend staying here. We look forward to staying here again.

  • My out-of-state guests had a very comfortable stay and the host was very accommodating to me on all aspects. I would recommend this home to friends and family in the future.

    Mike2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • The house had everything we needed including a fully equipped kitchen, bbq outside and high speed wifi. The house is roomy. Each bedroom is nicely decorated. Our kids had a blast in the basement which had a nice pool table and many toys. Melinda was great to communicate with and very thoughtful and even left us a s'mores kit for our kids! We certainly felt very welcomed. Thank you Melinda's family for sharing the house!

    Saori2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was even nicer than on the pictures, the location is so perfect, and the Melinda made us feel very welcomed. I couldn't recommend more to stay at Melinda's if you are looking for a relaxed and secluded weekend Upstate.

    Joanne2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay at Melinda's was! It was the perfect ending to a long journey through New England and it was a wonderful home base for our last few days of travel. We were able to get into the city easily, and we also spent time relaxing and rejuvenating around the house, before traveling home. The house is so comfortable and roomy, there is plenty to do for everyone, and the BEDS! SO comfy, perfect for tired travelers! The house is gorgeous inside and out, Melinda is easy to work with and was quick to respond each time I had a question, and there were so many extra touches that really made us feel welcomed! This was my first Airbnb experience and Melinda has set the bar high!

  • What an amazing host Melinda is! I had a great mini vacation from NYC. Melinda communicated with me from the time I booked all the way until it was a few days before my check in. She is very organized and tried to accommodate my family and I to her best ability. Her home is charming, big and clean. I would stay at Melinda's again without a doubt. If you decide to take a trip north of NYC definitely stay here! Totally worth it.

    Nazia2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Melinda’s house and the view from it was lovely. The beds were all comfortable and the book collection was impressive. Melinda responded to all of my questions within an hour. We did not have any children in our party, but I’d imagine it would be a treat place for a family or two to stay.

A treetop hideaway nestled in woodland nature preserve, 90 mins by train (70 mins by car) from NYC. Such a peaceful setting and beautiful views that you may not want to leave! And yet just a mile from shops and restaurants in idylic Pawling village.
Do you want a rustic and romantic getaway? Or are you looking for some peaceful self-time away from it all, to recharge the soul? Are you a nature lover, looking to take hikes, and explore the nearby Appalachian trails? Or looking for a home base retreat from where you can enjoy a fun-filled family holiday, filled with swimming, horse-riding, canoeing, and hiking? If so, then this place may be the perfect spot for you... Our 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath family passive solar home is situated a top a hill with beautiful views of nature all around whether you are sitting inside or outside. Depending on the season, you will see mountains, pastures, woodlands, or a pond. The house is just a few mins car ride (or 20 mins walk) from the charming town of Pawling with a variety of shops, galleries and restaurants. The style of the house is open plan style with a wall of sliding glass doors facing south from the living room overlooking the grounds. The main floor of the house includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, a full bathroom, plus a bedroom (a queen bed with a new pillow top mattress) with sitting area, In the living room is a wood burning fireplace, CableTV (43" flat screen), and DVD. WIFI is available and we have a washer and dryer. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms (one room has 2 twin beds and the other has a king size bed) and a half bathroom. The bedroom with the king size bed has thick floor to ceiling drapes for one wall, instead of french doors (which the other 2 bedrooms have). We love this feature as we can draw them open to create a very airy, light room, but drapes as a door may not be for everyone. The hallway outside the bedrooms has a balcony which overlooks the main floor below. The main floor has a deck outside with a space for outdoor dining, watching wildlife (chipmunks, rabbits, squirrels, foxes, deer, bluejays, woodpeckers, cardinals, finches), enjoying the views and clear starlit nights. The home is down a quiet driveway with parking for several cars.
Pawling is an outdoor paradise. In addition to private hunting preserves, like the Pawling Mountain Club, there are several public parks to enjoy. Lakeside Park, a 300-acre town park, has tennis courts, hiking trails and a 40-acre lake. Even bigger than Lakeside, the 1,000-acre Pawling Nature Preserve on Quaker Hill Road is crisscrossed by hiking trails, including a portion of the Appalachian Trail. There is even an Appalachian Trail stop on Metro-North. The Village of Pawling is small and charming. It has a variety of shops, including a good independent bookstore called the Book Cove and a popular restaurant and bakery called McKinney & Doyle. Also take time to enjoy the new village green and pavilion, with its trees, flowers, red-brick pathways, and black Victorian-style street lamps. And don't miss the Green Farmers market, delivering the finest fresh produce, specialty foods, and wines the Hudson Valley has to offer, on Saturdays in summer. The Quaker Hill section of the town, where our house is located, sits alongside vast estates and open space. The Oblong Trail Association of Pawling has developed an equestrian and pedestrian trail network, which has over 100 miles of bridle and walking trails through the eastern hills of Pawling. Pawling is home to the nine-hole Dutcher Golf Course, one of the oldest public places to hit the links in the U.S. For more information please go to http://www.pawlingchamber.org/pawlingchamberofcommerce/DiscoverPawling/recreation-water.aspx.

  • Michelle was very easy to communicate with. The house was large enough to for the six of us to sleep comfortably. The kitchen was fully equipped which made cooking breakfast and dinner together a family affair. The back yard was massive with tons of wild life like deer and fox. That's where we spent most of our time. Michelle's place was the perfect weekend get away from the busy city!

  • We had an amazing time at Cal and Sarah's beautiful, historic property in the Candlewood Lake region. Everything is as described and immaculately well kept. The house was perfect for our group of 6 adults and 3 children. Cal was extremely responsive and always available before and during the trip, answering any questions I had as well as providing valuable insights into the area. One of the most seamless experiences I've had communicating with a host on AirBnB. The weekend we visited was unfortunately the hottest of the summer with temps rising up above 95 degrees. For future renters, please note the house does not have air conditioning (yet). Cal and Sarah have taken care to have a number of fans available for use in most rooms. Overall - one of the most pleasant experiences on AirBnB. It is an all-season getaway except for when it gets unreasonably hot as it did the weekend we were visiting.

  • We had the most fantastic friendsgiving long weekend. A large group cooked and relaxed, drank wine and even did yoga in the studio! I would highly recommend this home for any large group who like dinner parties. Amazing!!!

  • We had a great stay here! My biggest worry was that our group of 12 would feel cramped in the house, but I was pleased to find that it actually fit us all very comfortably. The living spaces are beautifully furnished and we had more than enough space to hang out and relax. Cal & Sarah were very receptive to my questions and quick to respond. There was snow on the ground during our stay and the two fireplaces made for a nice, cozy experience - I'd love to come back sometime when it's warm since the outdoor pool looks like a great additional space to hangout and lounge around. I would definitely recommend this house.
