Lake
“Ooty Lake lies at a distance of approximately 2 km from Ooty city in the district Nilgiris. The beautiful lake is spread over an area of 65 acres, and its foundation was laid down by John Sullivan who was the collector of Coimbatore in 1824. The Lake is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees and greenery all around. One can also spot numerous streams coming out through the hills. “Most of the tourist think that Ooty is famous only for botanical garden, boat house, pykara etc.., Other than that Ooty is also famous or renowned for temples such as ayyappan temple, Elkhill temple etc..,The Elkhill is a Murugan temple and it is in the hills of the elk hill. Thaipusam is the famous religious festival that is celebrated in the month of January- Febuary to honour the Lord Murugan. There is a big standing statue of the Murugan in that place . The hill is sorrounded by the dense forests. The scenic beauty and calm atmosphere adds an extra attraction to the devotees inflicting that place. We can view whole Ooty city from this temple it gives such a beautiful view of Ooty. ”

“Located at a distance of just 1 km from the Ooty Railway Station, the Ooty Wax Museum is one of the top places to visit of the place and is housed in a 130 years old charming colonial mansion. Conceptualized by an IT professional who goes by the name of Shreeji Bhaskaran; the wax museum was constructed and inaugurated by Sri. Santosh K. Mishra, Collector, Nilgiris district in March 2007. A lovely break from the nature-based tourist attractions, this one has magnificent wax statues of famous political leaders, prominent personalities and Indian Freedom Fighters. The most popular idols in the Wax Museum include Mahatma Gandhi, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Schwarzenegger and American president Obama; and social figures which include Mother Teresa and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam etc. Besides, the museum also houses full depiction of a life of a rural household. There are sites where you can see Indian potters and villagers doing pottery and farming, cultivating etc.; all carved out in wax.”
