Places to stay in Omarama
Cute cabin in rural setting with shared lounge and kitchen facilities. Would suit one night stays. Especially people passing through Omarama, North Otago enroute to Queenstown or Mt Cook. Ideally suited for a couple or two singles. Maximum number of guests is 3. No smoking inside. No pets. No open fires or fireworks.
  • Kirsten’s place was perfect for our overnight stay after visiting Mount Cook. We didn’t get to speak for long but she was very nice and responded quickly to messages. It is a quiet place that seems perfect for viewing stars.

  • Book it if you want to enjoy a really nice farm staying. Amazing area with all things you need.

  • Kirstens place was just perfect for our trip to tekapo next morning !! It was just a miracle that she decided to lose her place en route!! The simplicity of her cabin was just blissful and waking up to the smell of a farm just fills you up with energy for trip. I’d stop over every time at your place Kirsten. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality ...

    Jonathan2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, if you enjoy a slightly more secluded location. An awesome place to star gaze!

    Tenisha2017-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Kirsten's place, especially because we hat the whole shared places just for ourselves. Sadly, we could not enjoy stargazing because the weather was cloudy and then rainy, we played boardgames instead. Peaceful!

  • Very rural. Rustic but comfortable with an ensuite. Quiet. Fantastic night sky. Very nice freindly host. 10mins to Lake Ohau which had a great level walking route with fantastic views on Mount Cook. It without the crowds.

    Kevin2018-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the cabin, it was really comfortable and had everything the two of us needed. There’s a spacious room and bathroom, great amenities, and maybe most importantly - a wonderful, friendly atmosphere. Recommended:)

    Omarama, Canterbury, New Zealand

A brand new holiday house located in a quiet picturesque cul de sac, close to the Lady Bird Hill cafe, Omarama's Camping ground and the town centre. The local school and playground is at the end of the street. It is modern, sunny and comfortable home with amazing views to the surrounding mountains. The house consists of 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, separate toilet, laundry and open plan kitchen, dining and living. The kitchen is fully equipped with all new appliances. Plenty of off street parking.
Sit on the deck and enjoy all day sun. Watch the gliders take off and land and the sun set behind the hills. In summer head to the nearby lakes for a spot of fishing, boating and water sports. There are plenty of walks and bike tracks to explore. Omarama is world renown for its Gliding experience. In winter enjoy the snow capped mountains and crisp clear days skiing at nearby Ohau Ski field. All year round enjoy the local Hot Tubs. Wander the friendly township, browse the quaint shops and feast on the local cuisine.
The neighbourhood is very quiet and tranquil. The surrounding homes are mainly private holiday homes.
  • Nice house and good comfort. Excellent superfast communication as I booked just the night before and everything was made ready for our stay. If you arrive late in winter bring some snacks or food as local bar and Café dont serve food after 21:00. great stay - Thanks a lot!

  • The place is great! Stylish, with full amenities and well equipped kitchen. My family loved the stay and would definitely recommend to others!

  • The house is convenient and clean.

  • We had a great stay! Good location, very clean and comfortable living. We would recommend to anyone. Was warm enough too with an extra oil heater in the master.

  • This was a lovely new home, well fitted out in a quiet culdasac. Kaye and Brandon were a pleasure to deal with. My father, brother and I travel down south for an annual fishing trip and we found this the best place we have stayed in yet. We would certainly highly recommend Kaye and Brendon's Pinot Noir lodge and we hope to be back next year to enjoy again.

    Rohan2017-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great & modern home that is fully equipped with everything you'll need!

    Wan Ling2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect pad for an unwind at a busy intersection. It's worth pausing and taking in some of the local sights and those that aren't too far away either (Ohau, Wanaka). Wonderful hosts.

    Fiona2018-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place for 4 of us to spend a night on our way to Queenstown. The house was very well set up and comfortable. If we lived in NZ this would be somewhere we would be interested in spending more time.

  • We loved our stay at Michelle's place. The apartment is clean, stylish, and comfortable - and Michelle's breakfast (with delicious homemade bread!) really took our experience to another level. Michelle herself is gracious and welcoming, and full of stellar recommendations should you seek them. The location is close to town and convenient to Mt Cook National Park and Lake Tekapo. Definitely stay here if you get the chance - we can't recommend it enough!

    Lilia2018-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle's place is just a short 3 min drive from the town centre, a clean and huge space filled with a very modern, sparkling clean and new interior. The place is located within the dark sky reserve and star gazing is a must. I would highly recommend Michelle and her lovely place as she is an outstanding host and made our stay an absolutely wonderful and memorable one.

    Narean2018-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Such a good space! We stayed here to get up to ohau Ski feilds and it was perfect. 30 Mins to the access road. And the room was so nice and cosy. If we plan to go back to ohau I'll be definitely booking with Michelle again

    Harry2018-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for making this the best AirBnB experience we have ever had and making the stay as memorable as our time in New Zealand! Amazing amenities and thoughtfulness in all details.

    Chaitan2018-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend air bnb!

    Jason2018-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Pardon the lengthy review... But it's too good! Michelle's place is by far the best we've stayed so far in NZ. This place is great for couples, everything was designed to cater to that experience so thoughtfully. We're so thankful to be the first guests for this place of hers... Through our conversations we've realised that they've been hosting people for many years, their experience was astounding. We've droved in at night so it was pretty dark, thankfully she had a sign on the main road and a bar of lights to show where to go, helped us to feel that we're not lost... Turning into their place, we were immediately greeted by a warm welcome... That was really surprising cause we were much later than our check in time... There's a beautiful wooden table outside and BBQ right outside if it's really something you wanna experience... Into the house, it was already warm and cosy, Michelle has already turned on the heater and Aircon for us... She was incredibly meticulous with every single detail, completely blown away with the amount of thought that has went through the house. Even a warmer in the toilet! Dimmers everywhere, setting the mood anytime, the classy feel and position of everything was just right... Even pillows with different fillings just for preference... With all of that, the extra details in having no footwear beyond the first few tiles made it even more comfortable for people that are nitty gritty about cleanliness.... Toilet with a dome just cause it keeps the heat and moisture in, your glass wouldn't be fogged up when you're out of your bath. Even tea and coffee for your preference, even a complimentary energy bar and fruits... Both views at night as we slept in, blinds open seeing the stars to the fact that the blinds, when drawn, completely illiminated the sunrays if you're sleeping in slightly longer... Too much, you've to experience it for yourself to understand... Most of all, the human element was so present, the conversations as to how the place was built, any way they can improve, they are really constructive about it... Great attitude and personality going beyond what is necessary, setting a benchmark that's way higher than most Airbnbs'. As quoted, "We wanna make sure the place is nice enough that we would wanna live in it ourselves." Cheers guys.

    Samuel2018-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Wow that was fantastic! We had a very warm welcome and Michelle is a great Host. The Appartment is super clean, super Cosy and you have everything you need. It is located between Twizel and Omarama and both towns are easy to reach. We loved the breakfast and the great bed. Also it was quiet and the bathroom was great. We can highly recommend to stay in this AirBnb even if it is not inside one of the towns (which for us was an advantage).

    Tim2018-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so comfortable, clean and spacious! It was a great place for us to rest after our active day and before heading further south. Michelle is such a treat, she was great to chat with and gave amazing tips for some things to do and see in the area. The breakfast was AMAZING! The space has absolutely everything you could need to cook or even wash your clothes. We can not recommend this place enough!

    Omarama, Canterbury, New Zealand

This newly renovated cottage in the heart of the South Island's high country is the perfect destination for those visiting our beautiful country or New Zealanders alike. The cottage sits on our property, but further enough away from the main house to feel like you're in a world of your own. Our nightly price includes breakfast. The cottage is fully self contained with all cooking facilities and bathroom. Glideview Cottage is self check-in, so guests can arrive at their own leisure.
From Labour Weekend, through to the end of March, we run a gift, homewares and interiors shop on site. Open hours are Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. Foot traffic during these weekends is quite constant. You are more than welcome to peruse the shop during your stay. Omarama is a small country town at the fork in the main roads taking you to Central Otago (Queenstown and Wanaka), down the Waitaki Valley and to the coast, or up to Mt Cook, Lake Tekapo and over to Christchurch. It's small town living in Omarama, only 5 minutes walk from the cottage, with a handful of cafes, a hotel, small supermarket and two petrol stations. We are opposite the Hottubs Omarama where you can enjoy a massage, facial or a hottub in fresh glacial water while soaking in the view of the rolling Omarama hills. As gliding capital of the world, our place is just a few minutes walk to the airport. Come in the winter and enjoy a spot of skiing either at Ohau Skifield, less than an hour away, or Round Hill about 1hour 30mins drive. Or stop off on your way to the Central Otago skifields. Don't forget about us in the summer where our lakes and rivers are the lure for those wanting to get outdoors. Omarama is surrounded by nature walks, including Clay Cliffs, ranging from 10 to 20 minutes drive. My daughter Beckie and I run this together. Travel times: Twizel -- 20mins Lake Tekapo -- 1 hour Mt Cook -- 1 hour Wanaka -- 1hour 20mins Queenstown -- 2 hours Oamaru -- 1 hour Timaru -- 1hour 30 mins Christchurch -- 3hours 30 mins Extras: Cleaning (included); Linen (included); No dogs allowed sorry.

The space was extremely stylish and clean, the views were stunning, hospitality out of this world, and so convenient for the hot tubs - which are a must visit! I've just left and want to go straight back! Thanks Karen and Beckie!

A busy neighbourhood all year round. Many tour buses stop here and we are fairly close to the Salmon Farm, and the Ski Fields. A friendly place to stay.
  • The unit is really convenient for travellers and clean. Alison is responsive. The supermarket is the next corner and we are on the road of Mount Cook. It's a good place, quiet, to discover the region. We spent 2 nice nights at Omarama.

    Marie2018-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the room just one night. Clean, well equipped kitchenette to stay few days and have breakfast. The bathroom is shared just with an other room, so if it's empty bathroom becomes private (as happened for us). The electric blanket was very appreciated since night was little cold. Close to Mt Cook, and convenient if you drive from Queenstown to Christchurch (or viceversa). Good communication with Alison. And the lock box for the key is really convenient, whenever you arrive it s ok.

    Nicole2017-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Alison's place was exactly what we were after, having changed our plans at short notice and needing somewhere to stay. This was a great unit with a small kitchenette and clean shared bathroom. Right in the center of Omarama with several dining options nearby

    Isaac2018-01-07T00:00:00Z

  • Good value acommodation if you want to explore mt Cook area.

    Boris2018-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Was a little difficult to find tucked away next to the police station. A decent place to rest your head . Value was ok.

    Russell And Karen2018-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was clean and had most of what I needed. Soap plus salt and pepper and maybe a small amount of cooking oil would make it good for overseas travellers for very little extra. Haven't seen a TV like that for twenty years. Only one station available. My big beef was the smell of mice poo and mustiness, which made me feel ill. They must be under the house, or in the walls or ceiling. I kept the door open until bedtime and stayed outside because even the perfume sticks and air freshener could not take away the uncomfortable smell. I am allergic to perfume but used them anyway because I had to. It wasn't cheap, as the night before I paid just a little more for pure luxury modern two rooms plus my own bathroom and breakfast. the walls and ceilings may need replacing and blocking under the house. I kept the windows open all night, for air but also I couldn't figure out how to shut them as I have never seen this type of latch system before. At least it wasn't too cold last night and I ended up sleeping well enough. I hope you will consider the smell factor for future guests as everything else was quite okay.

    Keri2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • A clean, but basic cabin set back from the main road. Tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided. BYO soaps and anything else. BBQ not working when we visited, but hopefully this will be fixed. Elec frypan & microwave provided, with kettle and toaster (no stove or oven). There is no cooling or flyscreens and the 'box' heats up easily in Summer. Overall, pretty good if you keep your expectation level at 'backpacker' and not at 'motel'. We had emergency siren testing 4 times a day – and the siren is just 50m from the cabin... ouch!

  • We only managed to arrive in late hours and have to leave early next day. Bridget is very kind and thoughtful. She had everything prepared for us. Bridget gave us a warm welcome right after we'd parked. She even had turned on the heater for us thinking we might feel cold. In short, spacious, clean, highly recommended.

    Bonnie2016-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Despite being out of the country, Bridget communicated well with us and did make us feel welcome. The accommodation is centrally located in Omarama and within easy walking distance of all restaurants, grocery, etc. The apartment was spacious, clean and well equipped. It would be a nice location for anyone who wanted to spend several days in the area.

    Rebecca2015-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Bridgets place is large and very comfortable. It was clean and tidy when we got there. centrally located for food. We were a very last-minute booking. Had to call Bridget she was very nice on the phone. And got us into the house. This accommodation worked out really well for us we would highly recommend it. One thing if you’re looking to do the hot tub’s, you’ll want to go online and book your tub has soon as you know you’re going to be going there. They were all booked up being a small Unique hot tub experience. Wish we could’ve done it maybe next time.

  • Located in the centre of town with easy access to the local cafe's and the hot tubs. Clean, tidy and quiet.

  • The place was very clean and tidy. The wifi was good and we were happy to have such a large space to ourselves. Glad we stayed here.

  • Bridget was a so nice host to keep a good communication with us, and had got everything ready for our arrival and stay. The accomodation facility was so convenient and comfortable. Bridget's hospitality has make our stay at Omarama one of most impressive trips!! I would like to recommend to the others and look forward to visiting again! David

  • The size and location of this Airbnb is fantastic. We had plenty of space and were walking distance to food and a convenience store. We stayed in the winter time and unfortunately the bedroom was pretty cold. The heat from the living room unit was not able to help much in the bedroom. I would imagine during the other seasons this isn't an issue. Also, the Omarama hot tubs are great and not very far away at all! Pick a starry night :)

Privacy from street. Great spot for a stop over. Basic but comfortable. ideal for couples who are travelling NZ. Accommodation - 1 room. (Not large). Good rest place if you are driving back to Christchurch. Quiet and peaceful. Close to all amenities around Omarama. Please read description carefully to ensure this accommodation suits your needs. It is basic, but it is what many of our guests are looking for.
A busy neighbourhood all year round. Many tour buses stop here and we are fairly close to the Salmon Farm, and the Ski Fields. A friendly place to stay.
  • This a great Airbnb for a stopover in Omarama. The kitchenette is well equipped (but no stove) and the bed is really comfortable. There is also a TV in the cabin, which is quite nice in the evening, since there does not seem to be any free WiFi in the area (unless you have an NZ SIM card to use the Spark Free WiFi Zone in front of the FourSquare). Definitely recommend this place to spend a night!

  • This was our last minute booking and turned out to wonderful. We were supposed to start Hooker valley hike early morning and the drive from the accommodation wasn't long. Alison was quick in responding to the requests and making all the arrangements on time.

  • This room was better than expected and wish I had stayed here sooner. Simple but the shared bathroom with just one other cabin was clean and warm, the room itself was cosy and a nice place to relax after a days hiking under mt cook. Handy location for many places. Check in was a breeze. Recommended.

  • It was a great stay and convenient for my husband and myself. :)

  • Okay to sleep a night. Nothing fancy. A step back to 1960. The outdoor bathroom is shared with one other unit. It is unheated and much like a campground bathroom. Clean though.

  • We loved our stay at the Dewdrop Inn! Gary was around when we arrived and was lovely to have a quick chat to about our plans for our stay. The room itself was excellent and we loved the touches like the diffusers and the super comfy blanket. The shared bathroom was spotless and was not a problem coordinating with the guests in the other unit. This place is so peaceful and was a great base for our hikes around Mount Cook about a 45 minute drive away. Not having wifi was no problem as we very much bought into the peacefulness of the setting, but there is a free wifi spot about 50m from the property if you're desperate! We will definitely stay again when we are back for our next NZ adventure!

Small cosy bedroom in Quaint old Cottage in the centre of town. Only a 2 minute walk to the town centre. Small Kitchenette in bedroom to have a cup of tea or juice. Simple breakfast including boiled eggs, Toast with spreads, Muesli, Weetbix, fruit and Tea/Coffee. Enjoy the hammocks on the deck on the sunny days and the indoor burner with a movie during the colder evenings. Unlimited wifi included.
Our house is an old style of housing only built to be temporary during the time of the Hydro Dams being built around the area. We have made a lot of our furniture out of recycled wood which gives the house an authentic and cosy feel. The Bedroom is also cosy and includes a very comfortable Queen bed, kitchenette, electric blanket and heater for the colder nights.
Twizel is part of the Mackenzie district and is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. There are many lakes and walks to visit. Mount cook is worth a visit and is approximately a 45 minute drive from Twizel. Lake Tekapo is a 30 minute drive and has hot pools, an ice-skating rink & a historic church called The church of the Good Shepard which overlooks the Lake. There is fishing in the canals (we have a fishing rod if you would like to borrow it) and the Salmon farm which is 5 minutes from Twizel where you can feed the Salmon and enjoy some of the Best Salmon in the world!

Little touches around the home make it warm and inviting as well as both of their friendly demeanours. Value for money absolutely, comfiest bed with a heated blanket and soft pillows. Character of the house and an excellent breakfast spread make you want to stay longer! Thank you both and Nella (the dog) for a superb stay.

Thanks to Peter for his hospitality, good chat and helpful tips on Twizel, Mt Cook, and alternative local activities offered

Our three-story home is the best place to view the beautiful mountains surrounding Omarama from. Our unique craftsman-style home was lovingly built in the 1970s. It has many amazing features, such as a wrought iron spiral staircase where you can find a large loft with three beds, and a third bedroom. We have walk-around balconies, sky lights, and a private patio with 4-person hot tub to best view the stars. Our hilltop backyard provides amazing views of the town and surrounding mountains.
Our house has three dedicated bedrooms, as well as a large loft that could sleep up to four, and a pull-out sofa bed for two more. 12 people could comfortably sleep in our home, but six could sleep privately.
Omarama (Place of Light) is a lovely little town in the middle of everywhere. It is possible to base yourself here and take day trips to many places, such as Lake Tekapo, Mt. Cook, Lake Ohau, Twizel, Wanaka, Tarras, Cromwell, Queenstown, Otematata, Duntroon, and Oamarua. Omarama has several cafes, unique gift shops, a supermarket with everything you need, and a popular pub with great food. We have everything you need for a comfortable stay in this beautiful slice of paradise.

  • So lovely! The cabin was clean and cosy. Taking a hot a bath under the stars was amazing.

  • How beautiful! What a lovely spot to stay, loved the outdoor bath (spectacular star gazing), drinking tea on the wagon steps in the sun in the morning, and playing cards on the fold out table. Just a hop skip and jump from the main road but it feels like you are in your own world at the wagon. It's a dirt track to get there but we drove our little Suzuki swift down it - which has very little clearance - so don't let that stop you! Very cute and romantic, great job Geva and Tim :)

  • Very modern and comfortable private unit. The bed was very comfortable. A full size refrigerator was in the unit, and although I didn't need it, it was a nice feature. The TV worked nicely and is on a swivel so you can watch in bed or on the couch.

  • Tania & Gordon were very nice & warm. Location is right on main road with airbnb sign board. Easy to find. Their property is huge. Individual apartment with all facilities. WiFi is very fast. Neat & clean. Very near to shops & resturants. Nice car park in front of apartment. Breakfast was yummy. Thanks for that. We arrived late , still Tania & Gordon came & greeted us. They have sweet dog but my wife is scared of dogs. There are some turkeys too. Many information on the table about nearby places of interest. Far better than any hotel. Thank you so much for hosting us.

  • The place was a bit isolated but nice. the room was comfortable and, although there was a small misunderstanding on the reservation, Geva has been very reactive in finding a solution. Top Breakfast!

  • Staying here was an absolute dream! Fresh flowers in the room, lovely linens on the bed, homemade marmalade and jam at breakfast, delicious dinner with lamb from their farm, and local venison and veggies from their garden, homemade bread and dessert...I could go on and on. Great friendly company, an amazing view, delicious meals, and a comfortable room. What more could you want?

    Sadie2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • A good place to stay for the night and receive a home cooked meal! Room was clean with quaint horse pics. Fun to stay on a working farm and meet other travellers. Great views from balcony. Hearty breakfast. Reminded us of visiting our grandparents!

  • We had the best time staying with Geva and Tim. My daughter had such great time with all the animals. This is what true NZ experience you can have. Thank you Geva for every thing.

    Kyle2017-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was the the first time I was staying directly in the house of a host on airbnb. Geva was really nice and friendly. She made me feel home right away. I was just passing by but she made sure I had everything needed. The room was really nice, better than expected! The bathroom was big and clean. I was tired from a flight and a long drive, but I slept very well and even wish I would have stayed longer. Would definitely recommend the place to anyone who stays in Omarama!

    Amelie2015-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first experience with airbnb - Tim and Geva made it the best experience ever. They have raised my expectations really high and one can only hope all airbnb accomodations will be like this. Thank you Tim and Geva for your hospitality, great food and awesome company. We loved spending time with you and the family.

    Lisa2013-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed 1 night. Both Tim and Geva were wonderful hosts! They were very very friendly and helpful! We had great chats with them and we really enjoyed interacting with them! Simply love to listen to their sharing on New Zealand and their farm animals! We had lovely experience in their farm, touching the little lambs and sheep dogs, riding the horse and seeing how Tim trains the sheepdogs, and how Geva feed the little lambs.. Really very grateful to both of them for these wonderful memories! Geva was also a great cook! The dinner and breakfast were sumptuous, fresh and yummy! Highly recommended if you want a fruitful and unforgettable farm stay!

Melanie and her daughter Ella has been very helpful throughout the process. The Omarama hot pools is only 4 minutes away and is also a good place to relax. Definitely would recommend this place to friends and family.

A13 is a recently refurbished self-contained one bedroom unit in the Lakeside complex. The apartment has superb views of Mt Totara and across the golf course is Lake Aviemore. It is on the Alps to Ocean cycle trail and there are many walks nearby. Summers are hot and dry, autumn and spring are crisp and sunny, and winters are cold and snowy - great weather for outdoor activities! Otematata is also a great base for road trips to nearby towns such as the Kurow, Oamaru, Omarama and Twizel.
A13 is a fully furnished 38m2 apartment located on the edge of the Otematata golf course. There are wonderful views of the golf course from the lounge and of the courtyard from the bedroom . There is a functioning kitchenette, with a microwave oven, 2 element electric hot plate, fridge and small kitchen appliances such as toaster and electric jug. Freeview TV is available as well as internet access, allowing you to use your own Netflix account. The bedroom has a queen sized bed and there is a queen sized sofa bed in the lounge. If you intend to use the sofa bed we need to know in advance to arrange sheets etc.
The Waitaki Valley is an untouched paradise with some of the best scenery in New Zealand. The resort offers a natural canvas of ever-changing seasonal landscapes, particularly with golf course and mountain views on the edge of the resort. Activities include a multitude of walks and cycle rides - one walk we particularly recommend is the Benmore Peninsula track, accessible at the top of Benmore Dam. Nearby are the spectacular Clay Cliffs and world class gliding in Omarama, fantastic blue lakes for swimming and boating, and access to New Zealand's newest wine region, with two cellar doors in Kurow. waitakinz.com is a great website with ideas for places to visit and activities in this region; another website to check out for local walks is the Department of Conservation www.doc.govt.nz.
  • Beautiful air BnB with an amazing view! A great location being reasonably close to Lakes and great drive out to Mt Cook also. The amenities provided were a life saver and we were able to make our own food. Thank you! Great hosts :)

  • This was one of our best places to stay in 8 weeks in NZ. We needed tranquillity and found it here. The apartment is comfy and has everything you need for a short stay. Views across the golf course mean its very quiet. The Otematata Eatery bar on the site gave us a good meal and had a nice selection of beer. We tried the other restaurant (CJ's) but they were a bit frosty so we didnt eat there. It's 20km drive to Omarama for gliding etc and another hour to Aoraki/Mt Cook, and we had a great day trip there without the exhorbitant costs of the Hermitage.

Take advantage if you have the clear night as we saw the Milky Way and southern cross amongst other constellations. About an hour drive to Mount Cook National Park - gorgeous. Would definitely stay here again!

  • We had a lovely stay at Jeanette and Bruce's place and wish we had stayed a little longer! Although we didn't get to meet Jeanette, Bruce was a very welcoming host and even let us collect eggs with him on our arrival! The Nest is a fabulous private B&B providing us plenty of space to relax and unwind after a 350km journey. Bruce happily suggested a beautiful restaurant with great food called Poppies where we had a great meal. Bruce even allowed us to cook a little fry up for breakfast the morning after and we thoroughly enjoyed their eggs! We would love to return when we come back to NZ.

    Harriet2015-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the location, we loved the place and we loved Jeanette and Bruce’s charming, good- humoured hospitality. What more can I say?!

  • This was such a last minute decision but it turned out to be the BEST decision ever! The BF and I were passing through Twizel and were lucky enough to stay with Jeanette and Bruce. Their house is beautiful the surroundings are stunning. Their place was everything the photos show and so much more. It was the perfect amount of peace and quiet we needed not to mention the bed that was extra large and super comfy as well as the breakfast that was delish! As for their hospitality it made us wish we were staying longer - and want to have chooks! We will definitely be going back some day soon to see them again. Thanks so much you two we loved our stay.

  • If you are looking for a place to stay near Mount Cook and this place is available, just go ahead and book now. You won't regret it. Jeanette and Bruce's hospitality is unmatched and staying here was one of the highlights of our trip. The room is spacious, comfortable, very clean, and you have everything you could need including a washer. WiFi works well and you also have a ice little place to sit outsideto enjoy the beauty around you. The location is perfect for a stop to explore the Mount Cook area and is located in the little town of Twizel which has more character than Mount Cook Village. Jeanette and Bruce made us feel like family and we really enjoyed talking with them and learning more about life in New Zealand. The breakfast contained many items right from their home including eggs, berries, plums, and honey. So delicious! If we are ever lucky enough to return to New Zealand, we would love to stay again. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

    Anne2017-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jeanette and Bruce are such an amazing couple and were very helpful during our stay. And I can't really tell which is the most memorable, the wonderful hosts, or the beautiful house itself, because you can't ask more while staying with them.

    Ellie2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Jeanette and Bruce for 2 nights and were just so disappointed that we couldn't have stayed for much much longer. We absolutely loved their fabulous house and garden and they really were so welcoming and friendly that we felt at home immediately. Everything in the listing is exactly as described with a big comfy bed, great shower, and large private space if needed. The wonderful breakfast was just that, wonderful. However, the best thing about staying in Twizel was Jeanette and Bruce themselves. We hit it off from the start and felt like we were staying with good friends. Two of the nicest people we've ever met. Thoroughly recommended.

  • It's a lovely, cozy and private space. It has everything that is needed in the cabin. We were able to see the stars very clearly at night. Would recommend it to anyone that wants to stay around the area!

  • Sheena's caterpillar room was a great room where we stayed 2 nights. It is a short drive to the supermarket and its a great base for us to explore Mount Cook. The bed was extremely comfortable. It is a unique experience for us. Oh, we were treated to a blanket of stars at night too. Great stay!

    Jacqueline2016-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sheena was very welcoming and we had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Sunsets and stargazing were fabulous to.

  • The place is very cosy! You are allowed to use the kitchen and the bbc place outside:) everything was very clean and prepared for visitors (maps, travel-tipps, intructions) only thing we didn't like was the wifi... it didn't really work. But everything else was great!

It was an independent place as well so super quiet and cozy to sleep. I really really recommend to stay here if you have any plan to drop by Otematata!! :) Thank you so much Debbie and your sweet dessert

  • Debbie's home is really pretty with a beautiful garden and our room was delightful. We found the bathroom in the garage next door a little small, but perhaps we have put on weight with the wonderful NZ food. Debbie was very thoughtful and kind and we had plenty of tea, coffee and toast. Delicious. Thank you.

    Helen2018-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Debbies place is wonderful! She is a very welcoming and helpful host, and she gave us some very nice tips! The place is clean, and has everything you need for yourself. A continental breakfast is included as well.

    Karlijn2018-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, comfy with a warm welcome. The garage studio was bigger than expected and equipped with everything you may need.

    Micha2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie gave a wonderfully warm welcome. The heat pump was on and the room beautifully warm and cosy on a winter's evening. Some home baking was a treat to have on arrival. I was doing some work up the valley and this was a great stop en route. Good wifi, fresh linen and electric blanket. Debbie had thought of everything - even some toothpaste in the bathroom (I had forgotten mine!). I would certainly recommend this stay. And will come again.

    Elizabeth2018-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoy the night in Debbie's house, warm and cozy with everything we need. Especially like her lovely dog and the blackboard with my name written on it!

    Jiang2018-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Place was very clean and the beds comfortable. Bathroom is compact, but fully functional with a great shower. Quite and peaceful location. Would happily stay there again.

This ground-floor Annexe bedroom is light and airy, newly redecorated, with AMAZING VIEWS! We are 5 minutes out of Twizel, a private house on 6 acres. Twizel is roughly half-way between Christchurch and Queenstown. We are 45 minutes from the awesome Mt Cook and STARS are often amazing here! You can also have a single extra bed in your room for $50. FREE Continental breakfast included. FEED the chickens and sheep! (Some honeymooners book our TWIZEL BED & ENSUITE BREAKFAST BALCONY).
Our home is a large detached house set in 6 acres, 5 minutes from Twizel. It is a warm and friendly place, relaxed and welcoming. We are happy to chat to guests and happy to give them their own space. Feel free to use our amenities - watch TV or to cook in the fully equipped kitchen.
Twizel, the 'town of trees' is a magnificent mountain setting, often snow-capped. That is why Lord of the Rings was partly filmed here, and you can book the local tour. There are two excellent restaurants, also Thai & Indian & Pizza. You can try the local beer, Speights, in the local pub. Salmon tasting and fish-feeding at the local salmon farm. We are 45 minutes from the awesome Aoraki/Mt Cook - most guests do the HOOKER VALLEY and TASMAN LAKE - then have coffee in The Hermitage and soak up the views. Locally, the Clay Cliffs are weird and wonderful.
  • A lovely place to stay in Twizel. Niall and Margi are great hosts and feeding the animals was great fun. Thanks so much!

    Tash2018-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Niall's house is definitely the best house we stayed in NZ. I cannot help shout out when I first see it during the sunset. The window view is perfect and the room is absolutely comfortable. Niall gave us great help, and he made us feel at home. I love the life in Niall's house. Thank you. If i come to NZ again, I will come here again!

  • If you want to feel a welcomed part of the family, check out Niall's place. The town of Twizel is pretty small, but omg it has the BEST DONUTS IN THE WORLD at the Twizel Bakery run by Andy who is Niall's son-in-law, I think it was? (Get there early when they are hot and (Website hidden by Airbnb) mouth is watering). Anyhow, we felt instantly welcomed by Niall and Margi, and exceedingly entertained by great conversation, the grandkids came by in adorable Halloween costumes for a quick 'hello,' and we got to feed the animals! Charlie the little rescue lamb, two mini ponies, a naughty sheep who knocked over a bit of fencing (he wanted to get a snack too), and cute chickens. We adore animals and had so much fun getting to feed them all and learn more about the town and its inhabitants from Niall. Our room was also very comfortable, private bath, and we got to see some gorgeous STARS at night! Breakfast in the morning was also ample, and Margi was so kind as to get some Almond Milk for me when she found out I am vegan. xo Highly recommend this one. :)

  • Fantastic stay in a clean, tidy space with cheerful and entertaining hosts. We missed the stars as the clouds were uncooperative, but had a great stay and great advice from Niall and Margi. Thank you both!

  • Niall is really enthusiastic. He gave us lots of advice about traveling locally. His house is awesome. Amazing view of mountain cook and you can feed sheep and chickens in the morning. Everything is perfect.

  • Fantastic place that is situated conveniently in Twizel, with a nice view out of the mountains and a clear view of the stars at night. Room and toilet was spacious and well maintained. Niall is an absolute delight to chat with at breakfast and as he takes you out to feed the sheep and chicken. Margi was very warm and hospitable when we arrived, making sure we were comfortable with the room as well as usage of the kitchen. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Stay with us on Pukaki Airfield. Fly in, drive in, bike in for a visit. We have a self contained unit, inside a hangar, a queen size bed with kitchenette - microwave, toaster, tea and coffee (no hobb or oven). Washing machine. Separate bathroom with shower and toilet in the same room. Plenty of room to store your plane (dependent on size), bike, car, or motorbike. Its a few minutes to drive to Twizel, a 15 minute bike, or 3/4 hour walk for a quick meal or a few necessities.
Experience the coming and goings of local pilots, enjoy the great views of Mount Cook and if you''re brave enough come on a flight to see the local area. If you're not into flying enjoy the nearby bike trails, fishing in the canals, the lakes the great walks or just gazing at the night sky.
  • Amazing stay. Definitely recommended.

We have a small guest suite in the Eastern wing of our newly built house. We live in a new, small, subdivision, 3kms (5 min drive) from the Twizel township. The East Wing is warm and cosy in the winter, light and cool in the summer. There are two bedrooms; a separate bathroom, a small lounge with basic facilities (no oven/stove top), wifi, air-con and comfortable couches to watch the clouds roll over the Southern Alps. There is plenty of parking behind the house.
We have two very friendly dogs on the property and we live in the adjoining house. Our home is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It is a short 25metre walk from the carpark to the entrance of the East Wing following a gravel path. It is located in a new subdivision just outside of the Twizel township, a 5 minute drive or a 45 minute walk.
We live at the end of The Drive, a very quiet road near Lake Ruataniwha with an outlook over Glen Lyon and the Southern Alps. It is 3 km from the Twizel Township, and 1 km from Lake Ruantaniwha. It is a quiet and peaceful road.
  • James & Renee’s East Wing is very new and nicely presented. Big sunny windows look towards a range of snow-capped mountains in an exceptionally quiet, open location close to town. There are a couple of gorgeous kelpies to greet you too. The wing provides comfortable beds, a modern bathroom and smallish sitting/dining/kitchenette area. No breakfast is provided and there is only a microwave, kettle and toaster for self catering with basic eating utensils. It was good to get some tips from Renee and other locals to make the most of our short stay in Twizel.
