  • We loved staying at Jeff's place. He made us feel welcome even before we arrived by allowing us to check in early due to our early flight. Upon arrival Jeff was super informative with lots of local restaurant and sight-seeing destination recommendations. The room itself is spacious and just as described. Lots of light from the bathroom skylight and very private. Staying here felt like staying at a tiny hotel because of the quality of the room and the freedom we had. In addition to the great room, the neighborhood is happening. With CO2 Ice cream just down the block and many amazing shops and food within walking distance. If you are on the fence about staying here, do it! I would recommend staying here to anyone.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in San Francisco. The bed was comfortable, shower was amazing and you can't beat the location. We hope to return very soon! Jeffrey was an excellent host.

  • Had great time in Jeffreys place. He was really welcoming and knew to recommend me some really nice places around. Room was really clean and artsy, I loved it. For me it was in a really good location walkabe almost everywhere if you don't mind longer walks. Would stay again!

  • We loved our stay! We felt very comfortable, safe, and it was very clean. The location was great, too. We just loved every minute of our visit.

  • Fast, easy communication and very nice. Place is as pictured and described - perfect location and actually really quiet. Bed is a little lumpy, but not bad. Bathroom is great, good strong shower head and newly updated fixtures. Love the art work.

Our home is nestled in on a dead end street that welcomes kids to play with a basketball hoop. It is a quiet neighborhood three blocks from a direct bus to San Francisco and 15 min from the Fruitvale BART station. The 580 Highway is is a three minute driveway away. We are close to the Redwood Regional Park with lots of hiking for all and furry friends. There is a grocery store called Farmer Joe’s, bakeries, coffee shops and the Dimond Park with two children’s playgrounds a 1/2 mile away.
Our home is the perfect for bbq’s, entertaining, family fun and relaxing. The kitchen is full of anything a home chef will need and the backyard and deck scream enjoyment. Grill while the kids play, roast marshmallows, sleep in the hammocks or play board games while listening to music. There are plenty of toys and even the kids art crafts are available for your child’s creative side.
The neighborhood is very family and dog friendly. It is a safe place for a stroll and close to grocery stores, bakeries and coffee shops.
  • This home was artistically decorated, yet super comfortable. From the bedrooms, to the kitchen, to the patio and backyard space, my family and I could not have asked for a better place to stay. When we arrived there was a beautiful gift basket and well thought out instructions (simple, not overbearing.) Everything was impeccably clean and our host supplied us with fluffy towels, and even left toiletries in the bathroom in case we forgot something. It felt like a home away from home as we ate breakfast on the patio, made dinner in the kitchen that is a chef's dream, and lounged comfortably in the stylish family room. There is a grocery store only 5 minutes away and this is a quiet neighborhood on a cul-de-sac where you can actually see the stars at night. We enjoyed our stay, would stay again, and highly recommend.

    A Family Bungalow
    1 review
Newly built, bright modern guest house with private access. Stay in our comfortable, clean casita. This lovely, light-filled space sits behind our home, in our sunny garden with fresh berries and lemons, with a large wood farm table for you to enjoy morning coffee. The studio has a small coffee + tea station, fridge, wifi, and sunny garden with outdoor couch, umbrella, and table. Our quiet street is 3 blocks from College Ave, full of great restaurants and shops, and close to BART.
Awash in natural light, this modern studio is set in our beautiful little backyard with a lemon tree, sunny garden, large wood farm table for eating meals in the garden, and a cozy space to rest at the end of your travels. This is a brand new, modern casita in our backyard with its own entrance. It is a beautiful, bright room behind our home. It has a little bar area with mini-fridge, tea/coffee bar (with a french press), sink... no stove. It has a modern, luxurious bathroom with radiant floor heating. The mattress is very comfortable (very firm and new), a menu of pillows (down and non-down) and wifi. We have traveled the world and stayed in many hotels, and have tried to make this room a 5-star hotel experience: white towels, fresh, new bed linens, white robes, down pillows, floor heat in the bathroom, locally-roasted coffee, and perhaps a few small chocolates! This space is professionally cleaned after each guest. It's an excellent location: four blocks from public transit, a neighborhood full of restaurants, cafes, and shops, quick access to BART and College Avenue. It's in between two trendy Oakland neighborhoods: Rockridge and Temescal, full of some of the highest-quality foodie establishments in the world. Despite being 4 blocks from BART and the freeway, we are far enough away from the crowds and traffic because our house is on a quiet residential street. The room has one queen bed and a private, modern bathroom. We provide a travel crib upon request and have had many guests stay with an infant or toddler. We offer complimentary locally-roasted coffee and teas and beer/wine. We provide standard provisions like clean towels and linens, hairdryer, etc. Our own washer/dryer can be made available to you (inside our house) if you coordinate with us. We have a nice backyard where you can enjoy your morning coffee, pick some fresh lemons, or just sit and lounge in the sun. Please note, the one down-side of this space is the SUNLIGHT! It is gorgeous and awash in natural light. However, if you are a light-sensitive sleeper, please consider staying elsewhere, as its bright in the morning. Another note, there is no TV.
Rockridge is a friendly, bustling neighborhood with plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Experience the true Oakland lifestyle in this diverse neighborhood. We are just a few minutes walk to College Avenue, Temescal alley, and are two miles from the UC Berkeley campus, and award-winning restaurants (Ramen Shop, Pizzaiolo, Juhu beach club, Wood Tavern, A16, Dona Tomas, Oliveto, A Cote, Camino, to name a few). We are close to UC Berkeley campus, too. It's in an excellent location, four blocks from public transit and College Avenue, full of restaurants, cafes, and shops. It's in between two trendy Oakland neighborhoods: Rockridge and Temescal.
  • We stayed in Diana's place for 3 days. It was in a clean and quite neighborhood. Diana was a very nice host, hospitable and helpful. She offered a wine when we checked in. During three days, we also met her family and their dog called Meeya: ). It was wonderful. The room is designed like the pic showed online and it is just behind their house. It's more like a hotel because there's no kitchen but a small and useful fridge. Everyday in Diana's place was comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to you guys.

    Liangyun2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Diana's place was beautiful, clean, and in an ideal location for exploring shops and food. In addition, Diana and her husband were very welcoming hosts with great recommendations in the area (and an adorable dog).

    Tess2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Diana and Greg are great hosts! The place is exactly as described, very comfortable and beautiful appointed. They were incredibly nice. They gave good tips for traveling around and let us use their kitchen. The neighborhood was also great. Lots of interesting independent shops and good restaurants plus super easy access to the BART system into San Francisco. I would definitely stay again.

    Sarah2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Diana was very welcoming, accommodating, and responsive. Clean, nicely appointed home, great bath, and good location. Also they have a very sweet dog...

    Eric2015-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Diana and her husband were warm and welcoming hosts. I was only their briefly, but I felt immediately at home and slept sooo well.

    Susannah2014-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very nice time here, Diana and Greg (and Mia the dog) are great hosts and we really liked the house. I think the location was good as well, it was easy to go in to San Fransisco with Bart (a short walking distance from the house). Diana and Greg provided us with useful information about things to do and good restaurants nearby. Very glad that we chosed to stay here for our visit in SF. Highly recommended!

    Per2015-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was the first time I stayed at this location. Diana said it was redone within the last few months, and I had no trouble believing that. Everything was new, and spotlessly clean. Even though Diana was out of town for my check-in and first night, communication was easy and I had no problems. Although it is close to the myriad of College Avenue shops, restaurants and amenities, the apartment itself was completely quiet. The kitchen was equipped with everything I needed for my stay--tea, coffee, treats, a refrigerator, sink, dishes etc., but it is not a full kitchen. You would not be able to cook a complete meal here. With all the eating options nearby--who would need to? I will look to stay here again.

    Lynn2017-02-23T00:00:00Z

  • Centrally located to bars, restaurants and public transit. The space was super clean and the outdoor space was great too. Sandy, Kristin and their dogs were welcoming but also gave us plenty of privacy. Great stay, highly recommended.

    Seth2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sandy is a great host! She checked in with us prior to our arrival and even left an extra blanket and mini space heater for us. The location is on a quiet residential street, and is close to downtown Oakland (about 8-10min drive). The cottage is really clean with modern furnishings. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Sandy's place was cute and cozy! She was very good with communication and the place was super clean!

    Jackie2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • This little place was perfect for a weekend getaway to the city. It was within walking distance to Bart, shops, bars and restaurants. Charming, clean and great friendly host!

    Michael2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Sandy's guesthouse was the perfect place to stay for the two nights I was visiting Oakland. The room is small but well laid-out and gets really nice light from the deck. There is ample street parking, but Sandy left the driveway clear for me to park in while I was there. Highly recommended, very clean space!

    Ryan2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Cute small space, modern, and the bed is very comfortable!

    Brittany2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Words cannot express how amazing our experience was at Sandy's Airbnb! The location was a stone's throw away from what became my favorite breakfast place--Blue Bottle. The bed was cozy, the bathroom impeccable, and the comfort level of the room was outstanding. Sandy and Kristin made our stay enjoyable and hassle-free! 10/10 would stay here again!

    Elizabeth2017-07-24T00:00:00Z

  • Anne's house was awesome! You'll love this central location. The house was clean, quiet and very comfortable with all the amenities of home. You will want for nothing except to spend more time at this house. Anne and her team are responsive to anything you might need in an efficient and timely manner. I can't wait to come back. Thanks again Anne your the best host ever!!!

  • This charming and spacious single-family home provided a comfortable stay for me, my husband and two daughters. Anne was also a gracious host who personally greeted us and offered suggestions on kid-friendly things to do in Oakland. The house is surprisingly quiet despite being located close to the freeway and a large apartment building. Landscaping around the property makes it feel quite enclosed and private.

Clean and light-filled one bedroom apartment in KONO neighborhood. Less than a mile to BART (0.9 miles) and half a block to the bus, this centrally located apartment is perfect for commuting to downtown Oakland, Berkeley or San Francisco.
This 1906 Victorian home was renovated in 2011 and is split into three separate units. The available unit has beautiful wood floors and a full kitchen. The apartment can comfortably fit two people on a queen sized bed in the bedroom. A futon in the living room could sleep up to two more guests for an additional charge. Towels, sheets and bedding are provided. Parking is on the street. Out back we are experimenting with urban homesteading and have a large garden, chickens and occasionally turkeys! Don't worry, we have no roosters and it's very quiet inside the apartment. Adjacent to the house is the freeway and BART tracks but inside the apartment you do not hear anything. The house has double-pane windows and a gas heater.
The neighborhood is up and coming, situated between downtown Oakland and Berkeley. Within a few blocks are numerous restaurants, coffee shops with wi-fi, bars, a halal market, and public transportation. Downtown Oakland is a vibrant area with music, night life, delicious restaurants and a thriving art scene. We recommend Burma Superstar for dining and visiting the New Parkway Theater for watching particular movies in a comfy couch while being served food. Also Lane Splitter is fantastic for a good pizza and the Scottish pub down the street has amazing beers and a great lamb pie. Going west from the house is a little rough but east along Telegraph Ave is a great street all the way north to Berkeley and south to downtown Oakland.
  • JJM were great. Place was nice, clean, tidy and had all the necessities. Check in was easy even when we reached pretty late. Overall stay was great. Thanks alot!

Our updated studio apt opens onto a lush, sunny garden space. Queen bed with sitting area and full kitchen. Perfect location between College Ave and Temescal commercial areas, and a quick BART ride to SF.
The spacious studio has a comfy queen bed, sitting area with sofa, bar with stools, and full kitchen. Our home is a duplex, with the studio in the ground floor/half-submerged with its own private entrance through the garden. There is a fully-equipped kitchen including a new oven and refrigerator. The outdoor patio is shared with us and our other tenants who live next door. There is a table with 4 chairs where you can feel free to relax - it gets great afternoon sun. Help yourself to the herbs and plants growing in the garden (mint, parsley, cilantro, kale, lemons).
Quiet residential streets just a quick walk away from the commercial areas of Rockridge (College Ave.) and Temescal (Telegraph Ave.). Friendly neighbors, great sunny weather, parks for kids, and fun restaurants and bars.
  • Kerri and Bret are amazing people- this is the second time my son and I were able to stay at there home. It is a clean, safe, welcomed space. I thank them both so very much for being able to stay there. It has given my son and I memories of family, friends and travel that is full of love.

    Kiely2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very nice basement-conversion studio in one of the best parts of Oakland for travel and exploring. Super comfortable bed and modern bathroom with a great shower. We never got to use the kitchen, but that's because there are too darn many restaurants nearby! The host mentions that there may be noise from overhead - and I did notice that, even late into the night, but my partner never did so I guess that experience will depend on personal sensibilities.

    Stuart2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Their place was great. Private. Nice and quiet. Short walk to BART which I used. Comfy bed and a nice kitchen. Host was great with communication and very helpful with the surrounding area. I wish I was there right now!

    Joel2015-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Kerrie and Bret’s Garden Studio made a perfect home base for a week-long work trip—much more comfortable than a hotel. Like any living space, the apartment has its quirks—most notably low ceilings and some neighbor noise from above—but Kerrie was upfront about these so I knew what to expect. The living space is comfortable, the kitchen is fantastic for a small apartment, and the neighborhood is quiet with easy access to BART and excellent food options. Kerrie welcomed me when I arrived, and she sent a few friendly messages during my stay to make sure I had everything I needed. Beer, wine, an umbrella, and (spoiler alert) a typewriter with a personalized welcome note were also nice touches. I’ll definitely check to see if the Garden Studio is available next time I’m in town!

    Andrew2015-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a great experience. The studio is very cozy, well equipped and conveniently located vis-a-vis the Bart. Kerrie was very nice and accommodating.

    Roberto2015-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy. The bed is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped and all the pans, plates and glasses are very clean. I had a great time there.

  • Staying at Kerrie and Bret's place. Really cute space just a few blocks off of the Rockridge Bart station. Super convenient and close to a ton of great restaurants and bars but in a secluded and quiet street. Both were incredibly friendly and communicative and made sure throughout the experience to make sure we were feeling welcome and taken care of. I'd definitely recommend a stay with them to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Safe neighborhood, across the street from the Courthouse and Police Station. Easy to get on to the freeway. Numerous Restaurants nearby! You'll enjoy the convenient location, building and room aesthetic, and the comfy bed!
Very convenient location for people who drive, walk, or take public transportation! This modern minimalist private studio apartment has it's own private bathroom. Sliding mirror closets with plenty of space to hang clothes. Mini kitchenette area in the room with microwave, toaster, and sink. TV and wifi. Desk/work station. Located on the second floor of an apartment building in Old Oakland/Downtown. -public patio area also shared with others Included amenities provided on arrival plus keys -2 Towels per paid guest (1 small face towel and 1 large towel), tooth paste, shampoo/conditioner, soap, clean sheets/pillow cases, and hangers.
Our area is undergoing redevelopment, please excuse how the neighborhood looks temporarily now, it will look vastly different with lots of new businesses opening in newly renovated buildings in the upcoming year. Oakland is the second largest city in the San Francisco BAY AREA, and the eighth-largest city in California. With any major populated city there will be some trash, graffiti, and homeless people. Some guests may consider that terrible or undesirable. Please understand that those are things we cannot control. This is just how life is like in a big city. Rest assured with the police station across the street, this is as safe a place in Oakland as you can find. Please rate us fairly on accuracy of pictures, description of space and cleanliness of room and building, and not unfairly just on location as we have no control over that.
  • What you see is what you get very nice clean one of the fastest and easiest checking inhad in my life they won't bother you at all and privacy well respected customer service skills on point great job Totally worth it!

  • This place exceeded our expectations. The room was clean and updated. The only negative is that the area is a little sketchy. However, it is only a few blocks away from the BART station so going to San Francisco every day was easy and fast. We would stay here again.

  • Alex was very responsive and flexible. The rooms are exactly as advertised and location is close to buses and BART.

    Stacy2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Alex was more than accomodating and attentive when there was a miscommunication around checkin. Great updated home. Thanks!

  • Great little AIRBNB in old town. The street and lot next door are a little trashy and lots of homeless people, however i never felt unsafe and the space was very well kept. The TV was a challenge as it is roku but the price, closeness to stuff and walkability made up for those other things. id definitely stay here again

We built the flat in the basement a few years ago but it doesn't feel like a basement. There is plenty of natural light. It has its own entrance through the garage. You have access to the entire level which includes a full bathroom, a bedroom, dining room, full kitchen, laundry, and full size sofa. You also have access to the backyard.
It's about 1000 square feet. Concrete floors. Two couches create separate sitting areas. We have a tankless water system so there is no concern about running out of hot water. There is one tv in the bedroom and it has Apple TV. You can stream Netflix and HBO go. We share a heating system that you control. We put insulation in the walls and ceiling. This helps the space stay cool in the summer and warm in winter. It also helps mitigate sound transfer from above but you will hear sounds from above. If you are in the dining or living room, you will hear water running from above, i.e. shower, toilet, etc...
Walking distance to great restaurants and retail shops located on College Ave, Telegraph Ave, and Piedmont Ave. Street parking is available. This area is considered lower Rockridge. Great Farmers Market two blocks away in the dmv parking lot Sunday until 1pm.
  • This is absolutely one of the better places I've stayed at on Airbnb. Really comfortable and nicely designed. I would highly recommend staying here. Also, very close to lots of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.

    Alan2016-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the location of this apartment, within walking distance to Rockridge restaurants and conveniences. Street parking in the neighborhood was a breeze, which isn't always the case in Oakland. The apartment itself was tastefully decorated and very spacious: much more roomy and comfortable than a hotel room. Daniel was helpful and easy to communicate with. Overall, it was a great stay!

    Ally2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel and his wife were so wonderful, the home is just as it appears on the listing. The home is super clean and very cute, we loved it. The backyard is beautiful and our dog was very happy. Walking distance to great restaurants, cafes, and shops. Really friendly people and wonderful home, we would absolutely stay here again. Thank you so much, Daniel!

    kati2015-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at Daniel's flat. Check-in and out went smoothly, as he responded quickly on text message. The place was clean and practical. Nice backyard with BBQ.

    Ole Martin2015-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel was a fantastic host! He was extremely welcoming and gave great advice for my move to the Bay Area. He was truly fantastic with all communication and guidance- I really could not have asked for more!! Not only were Daniel and Deb wonderful hosts (and people in general) the space was also beautiful and worked perfectly for me. Great location and the perfect space for the month I was there! I could, with no reservation, recommend anyone to stay there!

    Rachel2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Look no further , Daniel's place is a excellent find and is recently remodeled . It close to BART and shops nearby and in an excellent area of Oakland & short Bart ride to downtown SF . We had an amazing stay & would definitely book again in future visits .

    Tarun & Danelle2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel is very friendly. I enjoy interacting with him. He respects your privacy so he won't bother you much. But he is available for chats and interactions, and he is very friendly. The house has a separate entrance through the garage. It is separated from the rest of the house. It has access to a beautifully maintained backyard. The place is clean and has a kitchen and a bathroom. The location is great. It is in walking distance to the shops and restaurants on College Avenue. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

    Justin2017-06-12T00:00:00Z

Inviting one bedroom with a sofa in the cozy living room. Very, very comfortable queen bed! Newly remodeled, fully equipped kitchen. The apartment is located one block from Whole Foods and two blocks from Lake Merritt. There is a shared garden in the apartment building with a BBQ. Apt is located on the 2nd floor. The building is located on a semi-busy street, so if you are very sensitive to noise please consider that. There is no cable TV.
  • Shimrit was very accommodating. The one or two times that I had a question, I texted her and she responded immediately.

    Edward2016-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Shimrit's apartment is a comfortable stay for two. It has a great location, is very clean and accessible. Parking was easy to find even on weekend nights. The neighborhood was safe and residential with easy access to highway 580. Keep in mind, as she states, that there is no air conditioner but a window fan is available (it was hot, even in May). A comfortable and spacious apartment, thanks Shimrit!

    Hayley2017-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place

    Nick2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place is in a great part of town, convenient to the 19th St BART and the surrounding office space, and perfectly clean and functional. I stayed for a good chunk of April and made it home for a brief time, effortlessly.

    Elijah2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the place - the mattress on the bed was very comfortable and the studio was cozy and clean. We would definitely recommend this place for a business trip.

    Clara2017-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent accommodations – modern, uncluttered, well-lit apartment in a very convenient location (Whole Foods a block or two away!). Nice, well-furnished kitchen; comfortable sleeping arrangements, quiet neighbors. Our hostess was attentive on arrival and clear on our responsibilities. We’ll certainly want to return.

    Edward2016-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Shimrit's unit was perfect. 10 minute walk to Lake Merritt. Whole Foods right down the street. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Unit bright and very comfortable. We would definitely use this unit again. Dave and Karen

  • Jeffrey's place was in a peaceful and secluded neighborhood, great for a weekend getaway. There were great amenities like a hot tub and spacious bedroom. Even though there were a few technical difficulties with the hot water, Jeffrey was accessible and more than willing to address these immediately.

    Meagan2017-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Geoffrey’s place was pleasant. The house was exactly like what was shown in pictures and the biggest plus point was the jacuzzi in the bathroom. The only problem for us was we had lot of luggage and we had to climb many stairs rest everything else was good

    Aryika2017-10-08T00:00:00Z

  • Our stay at Garrett's beautiful home was awesome. Garrett was responsive to questions, friendly and accommodating - he was the perfect host. We had everything we needed and more and I couldn't have asked for a better weekend. I truly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

    Claire2016-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Garrett's place is excellent - ultra new - ultra clean, he made getting in painless - condo is near so many great bars & restaurants, within walking distance - could've easily stayed there for a month, highly recommended -

    Brian2016-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • Garrett was the most gracious host. When plans changed last minute and I wasn't able to travel along with my daughter, he was so kind and continued to reach out to her and welcome her to his home. He was kind enough to accommodate an early check-in, and while he couldn't accommodate a late check-out, he went out of his way to make sure she had somewhere safe to store her things. Throughout her stay, he answered her 100's of questions, providing advice about the area and getting around. The house itself is phenomenal. It's a bit on the dark side, but opening up the curtains fully provided plenty of light. Also, the rooftop area was just great - a perfect spot for some day working and suntanning. The little perks like fresh CA fruit, teas and coffees were spot on. Would highly recommend this space! Will stay here next time I'm in the area, if it's available(URL HIDDEN)

    Teresa2016-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house was just as described and Garrett left us beer, wine, coffee, and a few snacks. It very clean and there were lots of fresh towels for us. Finally, we forgot a cell phone charger, but Garrett hand-delivered one to us! Thanks!

    Timothy2016-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Garrett's place was great for the six of us who stayed. Spacious and light. The location worked well for eating locally, buying groceries, cooking and eating in. Garrett was helpful and responsive to our questions. It was easy access into San Fransisco by public transport. Would stay again. We wanted to have a bbq and sit out at night but was a bit cool but the outdoor space was great.

    Cheryl2016-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Garret's place is a true gem. The location cannot be beat! Situated right behind the iconic Grand Lake Theater, Garret's place is walking distance to countless restaurants, shops, and other attractions and is just a few steps away from Lake Merritt. The place itself is cozy and quiet, and the rooftop patio is a fantastic place to relax with a cold beverage. Garret himself is very nice and was readily available to answer any questions. If you find his place available, book it now!!

    Kent2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Garrett's place is a wonderful solution to the lack of hotels in the Lake Merritt area. It is perfectly situated between Grand and Lakeshore Avenues with some of the best restaurants nearby. The two bedrooms, each with their own full bathrooms, share a large kitchen area with a great room. Everything is new, bright and has a sleek, yet comfortable decor. The space is entirely airbnb, so you dont feel as though you are intruding on someone's private space. There is a fantastic roof top area where you can lounge and barbeque. The host, Garrett, was very gracious and helpful. I highly recommend it.

Our place has a private room with a Queen bed and a fold-out in the couch. San Francisco is only a quick ride across the bridge and we are close to public transit and food.
The home is nearly 100 years old and the street we live on was built for it in the 20's. I give preferential treatment to queers and people of color when booking, to help offset the structural inequality of our nation. Please feel free to mention if you fall into one of these categories. You are welcome here.
East Oakland, San Antonio district, on in the same block as Highland Hospital and just a few blocks from bart. Our area is one of the most diverse in Oakland. If you are looking for a quiet clean neighborhood you will be disappointed; this area is filled with big families and the sound of children and music. We are within view of the hospital so you can also expect hospital sounds, like ambulances. In short, this is a busy neigborhood teaming with diverse and interesting people, most of which have been here for generations.
  • Thomas is super sweet and very helpful. She even makes coffee in the morning! She's got great recommendations and is pretty awesome! The place is comfortable. One big bed and another pull out sofa bed. When we got here, they were already both set up and ready for us to snuggle in. :)

    Natalie2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay. Clean, comfy room, friendly people. Would stay there again for sure.

    John2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas' place is great! We had access to basically entire left side of the house, which included the bathroom, and living room. Easy commute to San Francisco. Thomas as a host was the fucking coolest. She makes you feel suuuuuper welcomed, and is there to help you with anything. I loved our conversations and will definitely remember them always. I hope to see that bright little place soon!!!

    Anna2017-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • We love her place a lot! We are a group of three girls and we stayed there for one night. Her house is old, but she always finds a way to decorate her house awesomely. She is nice and friendly, you can always find something to talk with her. You won't be bored! Her son is also a great kid. The morning after I woke up, he saw me, came say hi and ask me if I want some coffee. And he actually made me coffee! When we asked her if we can leave our baggages temporarily and take them back in the afternoon after we visit the city, she was also cool with it. In all, it's totally worth it to stay with Thomas!

    Seika2017-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay with Thomas! She was an excellent host and even was at home to get my bag that delivered a day later after my arrival.

  • My friend Halle and I loved staying here. Thomas and Linden made us feel so welcome and at home. They are seriously the best hosts I've met doing Airbnb. It was just a great place to hang out. Felt like we really got an inside look at how cool Oakland can be.

Queen bed plus a hidden Trundle bed for up to two more! All natural bedding, comfortable bathrobes. Kitchenette, self serve breakfast. Bikes to borrow.
The most colorful room in the house; it has a bit of history...ask me about it. Whatever you do, though, don't ask about the "Secret Room"! Please know this room shares the bath with our two other guest-rooms.
The Island of Alameda is soon to lose its "Secret Place" status. Block after block of beautiful historic homes and buildings, many pre-date the 1906 Earthquake. We've been loving it here for 20 some years and many of the residents are the 3rd or 4th generation in their homes. Who can blame them!
  • What a great place! Lovely home in a lovely neighborhood, easy biking distance to shops, restaurants, and the local library. Gene and Karen were very warm and welcoming, and allowed me to bring my bike right inside. Alameda is a biking Paradise! The downstairs, where my room was located, has a common room (shared with the other guests) with a kitchenette area, a nice large dining table, and a sitting area. I really liked having a place to sit or have a snack outside my room. My room was just as it appeared in the photos - large, cheerful, and comfortable. The bed was firm and comfortable -- I slept very well. I didn't mind sharing the bathroom with other guests - we never seemed to be in each other's way - and the way the rooms are layed out there was no noise at all (the house seems very solid and well-built). I really felt at home and would definitely try to stay here again when I'm back in Alameda.

    Ruth2016-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Karen's lovely home was very enjoyable; she and her family are more than "accommodating", the rooms are spacious, well appointed, and the beds perfect. Guests have access to a kitchen/family room separate from the main house, and Karen provides very high quality light refreshments, which is extremely generous and convenient. The area is very attractive: cafes and restaurants, library, restored Art Deco movie theatre, etc are all within walking distance. Thank you, Karen, you were so kind and your place was a haven while we scrambled to conduct our business in Alameda.

    Derek & Judith2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Green Room is lovely and full of light. The hosts were charming. I would definitely stay in this house again.

    Mary2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Karen's house was awsome, she has wonderful welcoming family and even better environment during my time there. I felt like home while i was there, i would like to thank Karen and her family for having me there. I would recommend anyone to stay at their place and have a blast.

    Nishedh2015-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and her family were wonderful first time hosts! They're accommodation in their beautiful home was far exceeding our initial expectations. More like a separate residence than "just a room" in their home. They took us in just a day before the reservation and were quick to reply to any questions. In the morning they surprised us with a huge selection of teas, fresh juice, bagels, and yogurt. We really wished we could of relaxed a bit more there, but had to quickly be on our way early the next morning. They really have created a wonderful and warm place for guests and will be sending our friends and family their way in the future. Thanks again!

    Kelly & Milin2015-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Grandma's room is cozy but has what you need -- a very comfortable bed, nice closet for stowing away luggage, comfy bathrobe, and neat antiques all over the place. What makes this place special is the ample common area with kitchenette, nice dining table, and lounge area. This is my "go to" place to stay whenever I travel to Alameda!

    Ruth2017-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully and artfully decorated, comfy, well located, lovingly cared for, period home. Wished we could have stayed longer!

    Sondra 2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • We want there for 2 nights, my friends and me, we loved it, it's super clean, she gives you towels, food in the fridge, the room is comfortable and is not noisy. The only thing that we didn't liked it was the use of the restroom bc there were a lot of people and we had times to take a shower and sometimes we had to wait 30min-1h to take a shower because it was always busy.

Cozy, light filled and uber clean studio in the heart of downtown Oakland. 5 minute walk to BART, 12 minute ride to downtown SF.
Light filled studio in a gorgeous historic Victorian property. The space is very small but has everything you need.
The hustle and bustle of the day with the working crowd heading into the state and fed building. Walking to nightlife, restaurants, shows at the FOX theater, convenient transportation and the corner market will meet your basic food, drink and toiletry needs.
  • Brittney gave me easy instructions before I arrived. She was available when I called as well. Came for a conference, the location was great and the apartment very clean. Great value.

    Annanth2016-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Brittney was great! Everything was easy and accesable. You can walk to plenty of great restaurants and bars and is in a great location. I would highly recommend staying with Brittney if you're in the area. Noise wasn't a problem but she already had earplugs available if needed!

    Tim2015-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Brittney's studio was a great place for us to stay over a long weekend and she was a very responsive host. The kitchen is well stocked and we particularly appreciated the coffee pot since we woke up too early due to jet lag. The place is very close to the BART as well.

    Ali2017-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Britney is an efficient and communicative host. Check in and practical arrangements were good. The location worked out well for me as the training venue was close by. The room is comfortable for a single guest on a business visit. However, it does not have adequate desk space for work / eating.

    Gopal2017-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Summary: Read the description all the way through, it's basically what you read is what you get. The apartment is just as the pictures. Suitable for one or two people. Everything was really clean and the provided instructions to check-in and out were straight forward. The neighborhood is a little loud at time, it's in downtown Oakland so this was expected. Pros: - Clean and well maintained - 5min walk to BART station and two stations away from Embarcadero station in SF. This was very convenient. - Earplugs were provided, I really didn't need them but it was nice to have the option - Getting in and out is easy, convenient and private. I didn't interact with any other person in the building. Cons: - The neighborhood is not very pretty. There are a lot of bums, they yell and argue. - This is downtown so everything is closed on the weekend. Other comments: A chair and a little table would go a long way in this property. I was on a business travel and so I had to check some stuff in my computer but there wasn't a suitable place to do this. I used the bed but a simple chair and a little table would do the trick, for eating as well.

    Ottoniel2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing Airbnb. Britney had everything spotless and everything you needed to cook. It was also a short walk to the Bart.

    Sam2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • The location was a comfortable walk to the BART, and Brittney was a wonderful host. Everything was as promised, clean and comfortable, and she even included a list of tips to help navigate the area. Thumbs up!

  • This place is great. It is exactly as described in the listing, and I enjoyed my stay very much. • The owner Anne was very sweet along with the property manager. The house is exactly what you see from the pictures which is beautiful. In an urban area where you have so many things to see. The house was just beautiful and would definitely use again. Thank you guys for allowing us to stay during our nuptials. Anne is very reachable before the trip & property manager was available when we needed something small as things to do in Oakland since we were traveling to San Francisco. People were very nice as well. Great hospitality!

  • Place was way nicer than the pictures do it justice. Incredibly spacious, clean and new. Both Anne and her husband were nice enough to let us check in early and bring us some snacks to get our weekend kicked off properly. Very quick drives from both San Francisco and Berkeley. Will definitely stay here again next time we are on the west coast! Thanks, Anne!

    Natasha2016-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house was a great size for me and my family. There were quite a number of us but it accommodated all of us comfortably with plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms. The house felt secure with the gates and alarm system so that was great. The only negative experience was that upon checking-in the cleaning crew was running behind so they did not finish until one hour after we were supposed to be able to check in. They had mentioned that the previous group that had stayed had made a big mess but unfortunately we were only informed right before check-in time so we had already just pulled up and had already started to unload the car. A room in an unusually spacious, sunny, two level condo in Downtown Oakland. Walk to amazing food, drink and nightlife. Convenient to SF and Berkeley. I'm two blocks from BART and the Marriott Convention Center. One and a half baths. Full Laundry, dishwasher, and skylight. I occasionally care for a docile elderly cat, but she's never allowed in the guest room. The cat will be with me from August 18 to possibly through September.
You'll have a carpeted bedroom with a king sized bed in a two level condo. The room has a hanging closet and desk. There's a very large kitchen with modern stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher and a gas range with a full hood. There is also clothes washer & dryer in the unit and one and a half baths including an electric bidet. The living room and separate dining room overlook peaceful chinatown. I can transform the king sized bed can into two separate twin beds if you desire. The four and a half inch king size memory foam topper must come off, however, and you'll just have regular spring mattresses.
This condo in Chinatown is precisely in between the Uptown neighborhood, Old Oakland, Jack London square and Lake Merritt. All of these neighborhoods have great food, bars, coffee, artists, music and spontaneous events within walking distance. I've tried to provide a couple highlights in my guidebook, but it's growing rather fast and there's a new best something nearly every week. Chinatown is a safe, quiet refuge just two blocks from all the hip things and going's on.
  • I had a good stay at AJ's. He was flexible in getting me into the building and was accommodating. The apparent was clean and provided plenty of space.

    Tim2015-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment and host were lovely. We enjoyed staying in Chinatown, and AJ had great neighborhood recommendations. Even though we didn't see him a lot, he was available and responsive. The printed guide to the building and apartment was incredibly thorough and helpful. And it was a bonus to get to do laundry in the apartment before we left!

    LeLaina2015-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The place was spacious, clean and had a huge bed. The location was great and very easy to get to by BART. AJ was a friendly and relaxed host. I appreciate his booklet of local information and enjoyed using some of his recommendations.

    torrance2015-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very well, he opened the dirt for me At 2:00 in the morning, thank you AJ

    Kevin2015-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Aj's place was near lots of awesome restaurants, super close to BART, and only a 5 minute walk from the conference center I was attending. The apartment is beautiful, quiet, and Aj is a friendly host who is respectful of your space.

    Clare2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • AJ makes staying in Oakland easy and comfortable!

    Laura2015-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This location is right in the middle of Oakland's Chinatown, which is a very colorful and busy place. The surrounding area felt safe and fun to be around. The room is even nicer than described! The bed is huge, comfortable, and the room is overall very big and clean! AJ stays in the room down the hall but you get total privacy. Read the paperwork he leaves on the desk in your room, it has many tips! The room is on the second floor of the condo, so be prepared to lift and carry your baggage if you tend to be on the smaller side.

Come enjoy our tiny (only 150 square feet), private, modern studio cottage with separate entrance in our backyard! Comfy queen bed, bathroom, microwave, and heater. We're a 5-10 minute walk from shops, cafes, and restaurants in the Temescal neighborhood and from Macarthur BART station.
We are in the heart of the Temescal neighborhood which has a cool, urban, gritty vibe to it. So if that's what you are looking for, then consider staying in our zen cottage! Our space is really small but super clean, modern and beautifully decorated. Better suited for one person but can definitely accommodate two people. Includes: Wi-fi, rain shower head, toilet, dehumidifier, queen size bed, cotton sheets and comforter, towels, a heater, a fan, a microwave and mini fridge. We are located right off of Telegraph Ave. - near Arbor cafe, Flying Yoga, restaurants (like Pizzaiolo), shops like Esqueleto in the Temescal Alley, and Macarthur BART station (a 10 minute walk from our place). There is two hour street parking during the day (but if you stay with us during the week, you can always park in our driveway when we are at work).
  • Nice part of Oakland to explore, and proximity to BART makes it so easy to access, as well as berkeley and San Francisco. I'd stay here again.

    Kate2017-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, it was a great experience. Everything was as expected. I would definitely stay at Kim's place again when in the area. Thank you!

    Paul2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space! Convenient to walking around Oakland!

    Glenna2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a bright, charming, and sufficiently sized space. It is probably one of the best places to stay in the Bay Area. It offers a bit of a refuge from a busy travel day. It is located close to great food, and great coffee.

    David2017-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Taj were incredibly accommodating and responsive hosts who went above and beyond to make sure I had a comfortable stay. The cottage is peaceful and tranquil and yet just a few steps away from one of the hottest parts of Oakland. For the week I felt just like a local and am grateful I discovered this unique spot!

    Dana2017-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Kim was very responsive and flexible, and provided clear instructions for check in. She also provided restaurant recommendations. Finally, we had an unfortunate incident where our keys were stolen along with some other things, but Kim was able to replace the keys for us quickly, which was one less thing to worry about when other valuables were stolen.

    Meeri2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Taj went out of their way to make me feel welcome even providing me with an iron and ironing board when I asked. Recommend to anyone to stay here!

    Tiffany2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Taj's cottage was beautiful and you can tell that they both put great attention to the details. We stayed for one night on NYE and everything was great!

Enjoy the comfort of our Private studio in law unit in the quiet Piedmont community. Piedmont is centrally located to all of the entertainment the San Francisco Bay Area offers. Enjoy leisurely walks admiring our unique architecture.
This studio in law unit with kitchenette is located in the upscale Piedmont neighborhood. Enjoy tennis and basketball courts in the newly renovated Hampton park directly across the street. Fine dining, shopping and spa services within one mile. The apartment has one queen bed, a kitchenette and bath. Wifi and Hulu, HBO & Netflix television. It also has an oversized reclining chair that has been used as a sleeper for a child. It has a private entrance. This is an in law unit attached to my house. This is an ideal location. 25 minutes to SF, 1 hour to the wine country. 45 minutes to Muir Woods. 1.5 hours to Monterey/Santa Cruz, 15 mins to Berkeley.
This neighborhood is a leader for safety in the SF Bay Area. It is quiet, small and quaint. Beautiful in all ways. Centrally located. It is a fabulous place to visit. You will enjoy taking long walks as you take in the beauty of the architecture of the homes in this small City. Many homes were built by famous architects such as Julia Morgan. There are many mansions here to admire. There are also several parks to enjoy. We live directly across the street from Hampton Park. This park just reopened after a complete renovation. Enjoy it's baseball field, tennis courts, backboard, basketball court, tricycle path, etc... I think you will love the beauty and safety of this neighborhood!
  • We loved staying at Jeanne's place! The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful, and the room is lovely and cozy, with a very comfortable bed and sweet touches, like an aromatherapy diffuser and a set of oils. We will definitely consider returning in the future.

    Sarah Lee2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for one night. It's in a beautiful quiet neighborhood. A lovely studio with lots of small touches and very clean.

    Jamie2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • A spacious self-contained apartment up in the hills but only a short drive from downtown Oakland. Jeanne and Borg were great hosts and popped in to see if we needed anything. The place is set in a beautiful area amid parkland and trees - we saw two young deer wandering down the street one night when we came home. There are wonderful views over the bay as you drive down the hill and the city emerges from the fog.

    Lucy2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in Piedmont; beautiful location, spacious studio with everything you need. Jeanne was a very gracious host. Great value, we'd definitely stay here again!

  • We really enjoyed staying in this cozy little apartment. It was very clean and bed was comfortable. We only stayed one night, but would have loved to stay longer.

My place is close to Public Transportation, the bus stop is right around the corner. Its a short ride to the BART Station where you can commute to San Francisco in about 30min. You’ll love my place because of the views, the location, the people. My place has some great vibes and you'll find you'll have the place to yourself more than not because of work schedules.
My space is unique with a good view of the city as my building is the tallest on the block. Apartment is located on the top floor. The space is tidy and there is a lot of privacy in this room. The room itself is very unique and has a great sitting area next to the window for a cozy spot to read or get some work done.

  • Nicole's place was fine for a quick overnight in Oakland. I was almost like a hostel with only private rooms, which I found a bit odd, but it was fine and fairly comfortable if you're okay being around other visitors without the host present.

    Julia2017-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Nicole's place is true to picture and about 15 minutes from the Oakland airport.I came down with a cold the day before and had to cancel my original Airbnb reservation because the owner had cats. Needless to say pet hair was the last thing I wanted to inhale, so I notified the host of my cancellation and sought another place. I was able to book Nicole's location about 30 minutes prior to arriving for check in. She emailed me to confirm the arrival time and met me outside of the house. Nicole was very friendly. She showed me to the room and around the house. The bed was comfortable and room clean. I would stay here again.

  • Extremely great value! Would definitely stay again

  • Every thing was fine. The home is quite and clean. I met Nicole only one time. She is kind and helpful, thanks again Nicole!

    Noureddine2017-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Nicole's place one night, on my way to Yosemite. It's convenient to the BART station, and the neighborhood is very quiet. The room itself is tidy, but the bathroom really needs a good cleaning. I didn't use the kitchen for my short stay, but it was available for use and was in good condition. Also, there are two flights of stairs to reach the apartment, the second one being rather steep, so if you are mobility-impaired or have a lot of luggage, this may be a consideration for you. Nicole was easy to communicate with and accommodating, and overall this was a good value for my needs.

    Juliana2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Close to a bus line and a great value. Would highly recommend!

    Mal2017-04-27T00:00:00Z

Old world charm & modern conveniences grace our open-floor-plan flat in a lovely 1906 Craftsman-style house on a little cul-de-sac side street. It's a cozy, calm, urban oasis with casual, comfy furniture, family antiques & momentos of world travel. The kitchen is fully appointed. All linens are 100% cotton with down/feather pillows/duvets. 1 block to Piedmont Ave. 1 block to Kaiser Hospital. 10 blocks to MacArthur BART station. 17 blocks to Paramount & Fox Theaters. 30 blocks to downtown.
BOOKING :: Please be in touch if your ideal dates are not available on the calendar. AirBnB is a fairly dynamic venture - reservations can change by the day, hour, and minute! Various settings for my listing may also prevent you from booking (2 night stay, etc) when, in reality, my place is available. I'd be happy to let you know about cancellations, too, if you'd like to be on the wait-list for specific dates. So please be in touch. OVERVIEW :: FRONT BEDROOM :: Sleeps 3 :: Queen Bed & Twin Futon Chair-Bed LIVING ROOM :: Sleeps 2 :: Full Sofa Bed BACK BEDROOM :: Sleeps 2 :: Twin XL Bed & Twin XL Floor Foam Mattress DETAILS :: Your private flat, the main floor of the house, is the original formal, public part of the house. It now has two bedrooms (one large, one tiny), a living room, eat-in kitchen, bathroom and back deck. The flat itself feels "farm house formal" - some parts more formal, some parts more casual. I think it is a nice mix. It is 950 square feet with an open-floor-plan feeling to it, one room flowing into the next through large doorways. With only two doors, privacy is mostly gained with well-placed curtains. (See the photos and the details below.) It can sleep up to seven people in three rooms and five beds. For example, with one to three people, everyone can have their own bed and room. With four or more people beds and/or rooms will be shared. The closer you get to seven people the cozier it will be. But cozy is nice. (See the photos and the details below.) It has oak floors throughout with a few carpets, a box-beam ceiling and restored old growth, vertical-grain, Douglas Fir wood paneling in the living room, the original pocket doors, and a well-appointed modern kitchen and bathroom. WOOD :: LIGHT :: SHADOW These are the visual and aesthetic themes of this house. ENTRY HALL :: Wide front door with beveled glass opens into the entry hall with side light windows, oak floor, original wooden architectural columns, cove ceilings, dimable recessed lights, picture rails, plate rails, and a coat closet under the stairs. Afternoon light. There you will find grandma's secretary and a dresser for you long-term guests. FRONT BEDROOM :: Sleeps 3 :: Queen Bed & Twin Futon Chair-Bed Oak floors, bay window, original wooden architectural columns, cove ceilings, dimable recessed lights, picture rails, plate rails, pocket doors, afternoon light. A large bedroom at the front of the house, it has the queen-size bed and a twin-size Japanese futon chair-bed (thick cotton batting wrapped in wool batting). AirBnB classifies the futon as a "sofa bed" in the listing. Again, the futon is in the room with the queen bed. There are no separations, no privacy, between the queen bed and the futon bed. The original wooden pocket doors are on one side of the room, shared with the living room. There are curtains - no doors - on the opening on the other side of the room, the side shared with the front hall, where the tall wooden columns are in photos 2, 14, 15, 19, 20. Again, pocket doors at one doorway, curtains on the other. Black-out shades. Two wooden tables are ready for your lap top, trip planning, etc. A small family collection of books about California are in the bookshelf. LIVING ROOM :: Sleeps 2 :: Full Sofa Bed Oak floors, bay window, pocket doors, 7' wainscoating with plate rail, box beam ceiling, dimable recessed lighting, EPA certified wood burning fireplace/furnace with handmade arts & craft style tiles. Mid day sun. An arts and crafts rocking chair, a full size sofa bed, and an over-stuffed chair are a great place to relax. There is also an up-right piano for your musical pleasure. BACK BEDROOM :: Sleeps 2 :: Twin XL Bed & Twin XL Floor Foam Mattress Oak floors, picture rail, plate rail, casement window opens to the deck, morning & afternoon sunlight and moon light. The tiny back bedroom at the back of the house has a twin XL bed, used as a day bed, and a twin XL floor foam mattress that is stored behind the bed. You can see it in photo 3. The floor foam mattress is not an air mattress. There are two wide doorways into this room, one to the kitchen, one to the living room. Both doorways have curtains. No doors. When two people sleep in this room with the curtains drawn and the foam mattress on the floor there is about 20" between the two beds. It is cozy - very comfortable but cozy. Black-out curtains on one window. KITCHEN :: Oak floors, original built-in china cabinet, morning light from two kitchen windows and deck, GE fridge (with the freezer on the bottom), stainless steel Bosch gas stove with convection oven, professional hood (always turn the hood fan on just before you start to cook to get the air moving up and out), confetti-colored Vetrazzo counters (90% recycled glass + 10% concrete), rolled-ash wood cabinets, deep double bowl stainless Elkay sink, single-handle Kohler faucet, Fisher-Paykel single drawer eco-dishwasher, huge 4 door accordian patio (lanai'i) doors open to the private deck and back yard below. This is a fully appointed kitchen: dishes, plates, silverware, cups, glasses - everyday and fancy, pots, pans, mixing bowls, baking and cooking gear, cloth napkins - everyday and fancy, some kids dishes. Variable morning basics - coffee, tea, sugar, oatmeal, sometimes other goodies. BATHROOM :: It is a "tiny spa"! as one guest called it. Turkish marble floor with electric radiant heat, small Carrera marble sink, shower/tub combo with large shower head and a short deep tub for soaking (please note sides of tub are 23" tall), white subway tile and green glass mosaic insets, beadboard siding, fan, low flow toilet, two windows for lots of natural light. Great water pressure and endless hot water (from a European style, on-demand hot water heater) (but please conserve water!). BACK DECK :: Most is covered, a small part is open to the sky. Huge Hawai'ian-style lanai'i doors fold open between the kitchen and deck making it a wonderful indoor-outdoor space with my great-grandparent's wooden kitchen table, grandpa's reading lamp, and a small (modern) cafe table. It is great for warm weather entertaining, watching the rain, or those restful days when you just want to stare at the trees as they sway in the afternoon breeze. The south-facing deck is 160 square feet. If the weather is to your liking you may sleep on the back deck - drag a mattress or two and your duvets outside and enjoy the night air. It's terrific to sleep outdoors! LINENS :: All linens - sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers, towels - are 100% cotton. All bedding is 100% down/feather pillows & duvets. LIGHT :: There is diffused, natural light throughout the house, throughout the day, and throughout the year. There is at least a little bit of sunlight coming in some window every day of the year. Black-out shades are on most windows. THE YARDS :: The yards are casually, not formally, maintained. There are motion sensor lights for safety and security. The yard is home to plums (glorious blooms in February, fruit June 21), figs (ripe September 15), two modest lemon trees, jasmine, quince, roses, iris, rosemary, calla lillies, nasturtiums, agapanthus, spring bulbs, junior oak trees, native plants, a palm tree, a willow tree, friendly squirrels, and the landlady’s garden cottage. Sometimes between seasons the garden might look a bit scruffy. The yards are often used for various creative projects. Please consider it a working, wild, living garden, not a manicured, landscaped thing. You have a view of the back yard, but you will not have access to it. It is the private domain of your host. HISTORY OF THE HOUSE:: Built as a single family home in 1906 by the locally-famous builder Charles "One Nail" MacGregor, it was turned into a duplex sometime in the early- to mid-20th century. Now it is 2 flats, one on the main floor, the subject of this listing, and one upstairs. Our street was named for MacGregor's son Leighton. The original building permits were pulled 3 weeks before the earthquake that destroyed San Francisco in 1906. THE HOUSE TODAY :: A century later, our 2006 renovation restored the house's original grace and beauty for which we won an award from the Oakland Heritage Alliance in 2007. The house and grounds have a certain Japanese aesthetic of "wabi sabi", a bit like a beautiful, working country house. There are often creative projects going on in the yards. Our charming, old houses in this neighborhood are close together, so we do ask for quiet from 10pm to 8am. This includes late/early parking and luggage movement from your car to the house, please. Oh, and this is not a party house. Really - not a party house. It's a cozy, calm, peaceful urban oasis.
THE NEIGHBORS :: We have a nice little neighborhood/community thing going with our neighbors. The neighbors are friendly, nice, quiet, interesting, cooperative, home-owning, responsible professionals. This is not a party neighborhood nor is it a party house. THE NEIGHBORHOOD:: We are on a great little cul-de-sac, hidden-in-plain-sight side-street with no through-traffic. We are 1 BLOCK TO PIEDMONT AVENUE with all its services: groceries, post office, banks, drug stores, library, movie theater, cafes, restaurants, yoga studios, medical offices, book stores, gift shops, pubs, ice cream parlors. Voted one of the best streets in the east bay. It is our sweet little "village". 17 BLOCKS to the PARAMOUNT THEATER, 1.2 miles. 21 BLOCKS to the FOX THEATER, 1.5 miles. Make sure to visit parts of GLEN ECHO CREEK that are above ground in 2 little parks just off Piedmont Avenue a few blocks away. MT. VIEW CEMETERY, 0.8 miles, is at the top of Piedmont Ave., a beautiful 226-acre cemetery initially designed by F.L. Olmstead who designed Central Park in New York city. There are INCREDIBLE VIEWS of the whole bay area from the top of the hill. I highly recommend a visit to it. It is 1 BLOCK TO KAISER HOSPITAL and about 6 blocks to Sutter/Alta Bates/Summit Hospitals. We are 17 easy blocks up Broadway from "Uptown" with the Paramount and Fox theaters as well as other entertainment venues. We are 30 easy blocks up Broadway from "Downtown" with city, county, state, and federal offices, Chinatown and Jack London Square. MacArthur BART train station is a 12 minute walk. It is 3.6 miles to the U.C. Berkeley campus, Sather Gate entrance. (Go Bears!)
  • Allysyn's home was just as she described, and clean! I loved the vintage feel with modern touches. Plus she shared a left over parking pass from her previous guests for us to use. Great place for my little family of 3. You should definately stay here!!

  • Allysyn's is a wonderful hostess. Made us (EMAIL HIDDEN)fortable beds including the sofa bed. Quality linens, great kitchen to cook in. Make's you want to hang out and create. Great deep tub. A couple of folks with us have disabilities and the tub was hard to navigate the grab bar helped. Lots of places to hang out and relax. Charming. We would definitely stay with Allysyn again!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Allysyn's place. It is a beautiful and very comfortable space. The Kitchen and bathroom were exceptional and the bed was very comfortable. It is very close to many great places in Oakland. Parking can be difficult, but Allysyn was able to get us a parking pass and that helped us a great deal. We will stay at this wonderful home again.

    Megan2017-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • A really accommodating host who will go out of her way to help you. The kitchen facilities are really good with a good size fridge, cooker, oven and dishwasher. The house it self is beautiful and generally clean with a warm feel to it. As the host lives downstairs, she was on hand to support us. There is also a washer and dryer outside which is hand. It has some good size beds separated by curtains which can be a little cozy but its a decently priced gem for a large group. Parking may be an issue sometimes as the property resides in a small cul de sac but the host will provided us with parking tokens. Oakland is a nice area and not too far from San Francisco.

Welcome to my new location in Oakland! This large 1 bedroom/1 bath is located in a charming 4plex within walking distance of Piedmont Ave, shops, restaurants, movie theaters, cafés, and grocery stores. Conveniently close to transportation, (Bart, bus lines) Emeryville, UC Berkeley, and a short BART to SF.
  • Great stay, warm radiators in the evening and night, everything was super clean...apartment has thin walls can hear hallway traffic but otherwise super private, relaxing stay. Looks pretty much as pictured! Good location for being in between Berkeley and Oakland, was perfect for our needs.

  • Convenient; not fancy but clean, functional, and well-equipped; super comfortable bed; easy access thanks to Ali's quick correspondence. Altogether a straightforward and successful airbnb experience.

    Virginia2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful and super easy! Amazing value, would stay here again. Clean, minimal with all of the necessities and really pleasant. Ali was upfront about the smallest details--every little thing including the fact that the tub had some discoloration and stains but assured me it was squeaky clean (it was). Super convenient check in/ check out and communication. Really great to be across the street from a 7/11 for snacks and necessities. Great location. Thanks!

    Chloe2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Ali's apartment! There are shops all up and down Broadway including a 7/11 across the street and a bar at the corner for convienence. The apartment itself is very cozy and spacious for two people. We got alot of use out of the kitchen as there was a gas stove and all the pots, pans and utensils you would need. The neighborhood is very nice and very quiet at night. Ali responds to messages very quickly and is extremely helpful with anything you may need. We would definitely stay at Ali's place again!

    Anton2017-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was fine, large for a one bedroom, but a bit dingy and worn, and also somewhat loud, even in the bedroom which was in the back of the apartment. The location is great.

    Dan2016-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • I'm afraid that improvements would need to be made before I'd stay here again. This has the potential to be a very nice apartment, but the cleanliness and quality of the bedding were not what I have experienced at other airbnbs in the Berkeley/Oakland area in the same price range.

    Judy2016-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Ali was very accommodating. The place was inviting very tidy. We had a great experience, and it was very comforting.

  • The space was as describes in the listing. Lots of amenities, the space itself was spacious for a studio. The backyard was beautiful, I thoroughly enjoyed the hammock. Angelique was responsive and easy to communicate with. The location is close too the zoo, but a bit distant from downtown oakland. Uber/lyft was definitely the way to go. I would stay here again.

  • Angelique's place was very beautiful, comfortable and clean ! My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights and absolutely loved it. We didn't get to meet Angelique in person but she gave us very clear instructions on how to check in. I would recommend this spot to anyone!

  • Was initially anxious about the neighborhood because it is not what I am used to, however, Adi's home is an oasis and he is a very gracious host. Made my stay comfortable, was communicative and my anxiety was relieved. Would definitely recommend to anyone anytime.

  • Very cozy and great host

    Vitali2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • First of all, Adi was the most gracious and accommodating host I have ever encountered (and I travel a lot). He responded promptly whenever I texted him with a question, and immediately took care of my needs. Second, the home is immaculately clean and beautifully appointed. There are two guest rooms on the ground floor which share a spacious, comfortable living room and large, well-equipped kitchen. There are designated spaces in the fridge and cupboards for each guest room. He even has spices and teas available for guest use! There is an inviting front porch as well as a private backyard seating area. Parking is secure behind a locked gate. I was travelling alone (which I rarely do) and I felt safe and secure during my four-night stay. The bed was quite comfortable, but I think I slept better than I had in weeks because I felt completely at home and protected. I highly recommend this property, and am confident that any other properties that Adi owns or manages would be just as fabulous!

    Gail2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Adi was so kind and accommodating to all of our needs. He was easy to reach, quick to offer service and respected our privacy. The room was clean and there were plenty of amenities to suit our stay. We were very comfortable and would recommend his place to other travelers.

  • Adi is a kind person always willing to help the best way possible. Just a wonderful human. It was great staying at Adi no stress, everything you need is ther even public transportation was easily accessible. Thanks Adi you're the best

    Tamara2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Secure, warm, comfortable, home with plenty of space for both privacy and company. May everyone's first airbnb experience be like this. I will be back for more of Adi's hospitality next year.

    Iain2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Adi was a great host and communicated clearly and quickly. I arrived later than expected and he was very kind to wait up to meet me, let me in and show me around. Everything is as described and I felt very welcome. Adi was thoughtful and his place is clean, cozy and quiet. The room had nice heavy curtains so you can keep it dark if you prefer and it was right next to the bathroom. Also, It was nice having a guaranteed, gated parking spot when I arrived each evening. I enjoyed my stay and enjoyed exploring Fruitvale as well. Thanks Adi!

Centrally located on the Berkeley border my 107 year old North Oakland home is filled with light, color, art and handcrafted furniture. Convenient to UCB, San Francisco and downtown Oakland via all public transportation. Dear guests, In order to assure an enjoyable stay it's important that you read the entire listing before booking. When sending a request tell a bit about yourself and the nature of your trip particularly if you do not have a profile and/or reviews. Thank you!
CHARMING and Tranquil 107 year old North Oakland Home Colorful home filled with light, art and handcrafted furniture, located on a peaceful street in North Oakland, a coins throw from Berkeley. Your south facing bedroom has a glass door which opens to the deck and garden. Fresh cotton linens, a comfortable single bed, shared bath, deck and garden are yours to enjoy. The house is located in a residential neighborhood conveniently close ( 6 min walk) to the Ashby Bart Station, and several bus stops. Cafes, restaurants, Whole Foods Market, Berkeley Bowl Market and one of the best weekly farmer's markets are all within a short walk away. This household includes two wonderful indoor/ outdoor cats. Although the house is kept very clean and cats are easily kept out of your room, if you have allergies or harbor an aversion to felines this probably isn't the right situation for you.
The neighborhood is residential, friendly and usually quiet. Please check the Guidebook for more information about what's immediately in the area and otherwise.
  • My entire stay was exactly as expected. The information on the airbnb profile and private communications prior to my visit were highly accurate and reassuring.

  • Absolutely loved my stay at Tori's house. This was my first week in Oakland having moved from Los Angeles. I used her home as a home base while I secured more permanent housing in the area. Tori was so accommodating and cool that she really helped lessen my stress while I set up my life here in this beautiful Oakland / East Bay area. I even got sick and she was so cool to offer Vitamin C and homemade soup. Also, Pepe and Jupiter are super sweet cats! Would definitely recommend Tori and her house!

    romeo2016-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great! I am a repeat guest and will keep coming back. So convenient and such a great place to stay!

    Sasha 2015-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • I spent 5 nights staying at Tori's before joining a conference in San Francisco. It was the perfect place to stay! Tori was a fantastic host - friendly, really interesting to talk to, offering great advice for the local area. I'm a cat person and I loved Tori's two cats, Pepe and Jupiter, who are not shy and happily jumped right up on my lap. The house is in a quiet, safe neighborhood and is clean and light with fantastic art made by Tori hanging on the walls. It's easy walking distance to some nice restaurants and the supermarket is nearby too. It's a 5 minute walk to Ashby Bart station which made it easy for me to get around both in the East Bay and into SF. My room was spacious and comfortable and despite my jet lag I slept very well. Next time I'm traveling in the Bay Area I will definitely stay here again.

    Polly2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • I spent two weeks in Victoria's room. The house is an absolute oasis, from the lovely garden full of flowers and the back porch to relax on, to the beautiful and artistic details in the house. The room was cozy and had all the necessities, while the whole house has a lot of character. Victoria is absolutely lovely and very friendly as are her two cats. Definitely recommend Victoria's room for single travellers.

    Iskra2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Tori was absolutely a lovely host. She met me at her place after I traveled from the airport and was so welcoming! Her place is charming, near the intersection of Oakland and Berkeley. The house is comfortable and the room is nice and cozy. I traveled by myself and felt so at home here. I would definitely recommend staying here while visiting San Fran/East Bay. Tori is soooo nice and sweet and I enjoyed our many conversations together.

    Lekisha2016-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Tori's place in Berkeley for a week, which wasn't long enough! Tori's home was well-kept and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the location is perfect (close to the Ashby BART to get around, but also a great neighbourhood in its own right). Tori is very friendly and hospitable, and filled with great tips to explore the Bay Area. I highly recommend Tori and her home, and am already planning my next trip!

    Luke2014-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • I had a perfect tima in Victoria's house. The house is exactly as it is described: proper, airy, colored, nicely decorated, quiet. It is conveniently located at 10 minutes walking from Ashby Bart station, and there here is a bus stop even closer where you can get buses to Downtown Berkley and the UC Campus and to San Francisco. Victoria is a nice and friendly person and she was very helpful. I was in Berkely for a conference and I stayed one week only, but we had the time for some nice conversations and dinner together a couple of times. Her cats were polite too, they never bothered me or entered in my room. Since I never feeded them, they were actually not paying much attention to me. I surely recommend this host and his house.

Extremely large bedrooms and kitchen adjoining a large deck with views of downtown, the bay bridge. Former cafe owner so the kitchen is well stocked with tools, appliances (3 types of coffee makers, Keurig, drip and espresso machine) GREAT, LARGE Kitchen with eating area and views of downtown. It is FULLY equipped and stocked with spices etc., gas range, dishwasher, disposal etc. Full direct gas (no tanks needed) Weber barbecue on deck. 15 minute drive to SF airport. • Very spacious and well appointed home in a great location! We live around the corner and needed a place to live while we had some construction completed. Bruce was very responsive and friendly. Thanks!

    Greg2015-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely house and a great base if you want to explore the bay area. I stayed at the house for three weeks with my wife and four young children. The house was spacious enough with its three large bedrooms. The veranda is a great place to hang out and the kitchen/ dining area is also a great place to gather (barbecue available, but we did not use it). The kitchen is fully equipped and the local grocery store is 5 minutes away, as it the local Walter Haas playground. We also had access to a washer/ dryer. Wifi was also available. The house has off street parking. I advise hiring a car to get around as you can be in downtown San Francisco in 10 - 15 minutes. Alternatively, there are bus stops nearby. The micro-climate in the hilly areas of outside SF means that it can be colder and windier than it is in the city. When the weather is good though, the view of downtown SF is beautiful. Bruce is a great host, easy going and very generous. The kids loved the pastries.

    Alexander2012-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very good house!

    Yiyi2015-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The house is lovely, large and in a quiet neighborhood. It is decorated beautifully. Each bedroom is big and the kitchen is large and open. You could have quite a few people in the house and not feel crowded. It is a distance from downtown, but bus stop is a short block away and takes you to the BART station in about 5-10 minutes. All of the BART trains from this station go to the Mission Arts District, Downtown and Embarcadero, so it is easy to just hop on any train. It is great to be able to park off-street and not worry about your car. We felt very much at home and enjoyed our time sitting on the deck, looking at the beautiful city view through the trees.

    Sue2014-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • This house was very spacious. Plenty of room for a party of 9. The location is perfect if you want to be close to the city ,but not in the middle of it. Bruce was an excellent host with great knowledge of the neighborhood. I would highly suggest his place for your next stay in San Francisco.

    Conrad2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • The home was in a very nice neighborhood and it was very spacious.

    Yaimy2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great apartment, giant bedrooms, clean and convenient with amazing view and parks near by. Bruce was a great host and very responsive and helpful.

    Tomer2014-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We live in San Francisco and rented this lovely home for a family reunion and wedding. The space is large, easily slept 9 people with plenty of room. Loved how the kitchen area overlooked the deck, we spent much of our time in this area since most people tend to congregate in the kitchen, we had plenty of space and a beautiful view. The neighborhood is quiet, easy parking and there is a Safeway walking distance if you need anything. The house is also close to a bus line and easy to get downtown, Castro and San Francisco Airport. Bruce is very responsive and helpful. We highly recommend this lovely home for your vacation or a get together with friends and family.

** Check out our other listing in the same complex for reviews to find if this listing suits what you're looking for - Temescal Retreat - Live Like a Local ** Our apartment is a great for solo travelers, couples, business travelers, and those looking to live like locals when coming to Oakland. You'll be in an area that's walkable to lots of hip restaurants, some dive bars, and great brunch spots. A foodie, seeking urban life? This is your cuppa coffee.
This is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment in an old building, approximately 700 square feet, all on one floor. It is below one apartment, and the living room and bedroom are facing the street. The apartment is adjacent to a busy street so expect some city, urban noise, but really if you're okay with white noise, that's what it is. There is a small kitchen, a living and dining room combo room, a small but functional bedroom, and a compact bathroom with a shower over tub. Common theme here? It's Bay Area regular sized :) and city comfortable. We'd call it efficient, and it's really all the space you need to sleep, rest, and then go back out to enjoy the Bay Area.
This is the neighborhood to be in if you want diversity, urban, city life, convenience, and if you're a foodie! The apartment is located on the border of Temescal and Lower Rockridge. One block to Kingfish Pub, 1.5 blocks from the weekly Temescal Farmers Market, two blocks to Bakesale Betty's on the corner, Rockridge Bart is a 5 minute bike ride away, as well as the Macarthur Bart! You have all of Rockridge and Temescal at walking distance of 5 to 15 minutes. Neighborhood is considered part of the NOBE district which stands for North Oakland Berkeley Emeryville. The apartment is located in a neighborhood that has been transforming for many years.
  • Nice place with all the amendments you need. Plus many good restaurants around

  • Jennifer‘s place is well located for both easy freeway access as well as BART access should you wish to leave the car behind for a city trip. The apartment itself is very cozy and clean, and the neighbors themselves are all very friendly. It’s a recommendation!

  • Jennifer has a nice sunny apartment with a homely but contemporary feel. Location is great- Streetparking ina safe neighbourhood and an easy walk to the Bart station to get to SF or Berkeley - or a pleasant hour’s walk to Berkley if you’re feeling energetic. Mellow shopping / coffee houses available in oakland (15 mins walk). I’d stay her again.
