Places to stay in Nilgiris
Nianna Estate (formerly Karthik) is a beautiful stone dwelling surrounded by luscious tea leaf terraces, organic vege-farm and fresh water stream. The estate is located in the charming town of Deenaty close to the Sivan Temple. The best way to reach the estate is via the Oooty - Kagguchi road. If you are looking for a farm-to-table experience (seasonal) then this is just the place for you! Pick carrots, radish, beetroot, red cabbage, tea and more, and the caretaker will prepare a meal for you.
The Plantation House is located amidst 30 acres of lush Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) leaves. The house is the focal point of the estate but there is great trekking in all directions. To the north lies multiple terraces of tea leaves which once climbed leads to a potable fresh water stream. To the south is a fully-organic vegetable farm (seasonal) and tea weighing area with staff quarters. The house itself has a bedroom on the upstairs and downstairs levels. These 2 fabulous rooms sleep 4 people comfortably. Both rooms have en-suite bathrooms. There is a living room with a TV downstairs and a sitting room upstairs. There are 2 outdoor viewing decks on the north and south side, from here wild animals such as bisons and deer can be spotted. The house has a cosy dining room that seats 4 comfortably, the kitchen is full-service and open for you to use. There is a powder room attached to the dining room. We have a washing machine on property. For in-house dining, a chef is available at a small fee. Nianna is the ideal place to catch up with some quiet time, play family games, dive into a great book or take in the freshest air you will ever experience. We recommend driving to the estate in an SUV or high vehicle as the approach can be muddy, there is an option to park your card nearby and have a local vehicle bring you to the property. Arriving after 5pm is not advised either as the last 1 km of road doesn't have lighting.
The neighbourhood is a very charming place. Kagguchi has some lovely tea shops with locally made food. Deenaty is a very quiet and sparsely populated village, do not expect to find any large retail shops here, in fact we advise you to bring your own consumables. There is a local town in walking distance (5 mins) from the Estate with houses and shops. There also neighbouring estates.
  • It's a very beautiful property, surrounded by lush green trees and valley in front. Room size is good, balcony is the place where you will spend most of the time admiring the view.

  • This is one of the finest places in Airbnb. Care taker Dinesh helped us with everything and he cooks like a professional chef! I really loved the tea estate and the plantation around. There are many birds and animals(harmless) around the estate. I ll definitely visit this place another time!

  • We had an extremely lovely stay. The property is isolated and the cottage is quaint and cozy. Sitting on the upstairs balcony and soaking in the surrounding beauty is something everyone must experience. The caretaker, Mr. Dinesh, is of great help. Besides cooking delicious food (he can make any vegetarian dish taste simply fabulous), he also showed us a few trekking trails and places we could hike up to. He was there for every tiny niggle we had and made our stay perfect.

  • Great place!!

    Megha2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • I will specially mention about the caretaker, Dinesh’s hospitality, it was so cordial and warm. I will recommend this place to everyone as a great weekend getaway amidst nature. The stay was a bit remote and difficult to find yet it was worth every bit of it. I will love to come back again.

  • Amazing place to stay with your loved ones. Very calm and scenic.

    Porchelvan2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed there from 20-12-2019 to 23-12-2019. The location is breathtaking. Wasn’t expecting the location of the estate to be tat great. It’s a bit far from the main town which is what makes it a great stay. Away from all the hustle. Waking up to the sound of the birds. The sunrise can be enjoyed from the balcony. Everything was amazing. Last but not the least special thanks to Mr. Dinesh(Caretaker&Cook), he made the stay more memorable. He took care of us so well that he was willing to assist us anything even late in the night. Will definitely come back. Cheers.

This is a self-catering cottage with a bedroom/ living area, kitchen/dining room and an en suite bathroom. With exposed brick walls, walnut finished wood and hand painted tiles, Ivy Cottage is delightfully shabby chic. Rustic and yet luxurious, its red, white and black color theme and art work reflect local tribal culture and the animals of the Nilgiris. An entire wall of floor to ceiling windows look out on a private patio and gardens and a stunning view. Gardens are shared with other guests.
Just 7 kilometers outside of Ooty town, this property is close to all the major tourist highlights but is secluded and remote at the same time. Away from the hustle and bustle of Ooty town, Ivy Cottage is a serene and peaceful retreat, overlooking tea estates, wild forest and mountain ridges. Two other houses, Stumpfields and Bilberry share the 1.5 acre property. Bilberry Cottage is directly above Ivy Cottage. This is a mountain retreat, not a five star hotel. We have staff here during the day to support guests, but not at night. We have beautifully equipped kitchens so you can cook your own food, but we do not have a restaurant. We understand if you do not wish to cook on your vacation, so you can hire one of our ladies for a "Book A Cook" option, (please see the house manual for more details). There is Highland Hotel with a good restaurant just 1.5 km away. We urge only resilient, nature loving, independent, resourceful, adventuresome people to book a holiday here. Its a wild and steep terrain, and at night you will not hear the noise of traffic, but rather the sound of wind in the trees, owls in the dark, rain on the roofs, bird and animal calls. While the evenings may have firelight, candles and electricity, once the lights are out, it will be pitch dark all around. When skies are clear the stars and moon are perhaps the most beautiful you will ever see. Its something about being in the mountains 8,000 ft high, with no pollution covering the atmosphere. Other times of the year, especially in the monsoon, its just incredibly dark. The mountains of Ooty are also very cool year round, especially at night. While the indoors are warm and cozy, mountain air outside is brisk! For those who want complete luxury, room service, wifi, TV's, a restaurant, and 24 hour staff service we recommend you book a hotel in the town of Ooty. Come here ready to unplug from emails and the internet, TV's and movies, and try curling up by the oil heater with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. Let your body and mind re-set and re-charge as you decompress and let the nature around you remind you there is a different way to live. A little iron gate invites a short walk into national reserve forest surrounding the Stumpfield property. A private flight of stone steps leads down to the orchard of fruit trees and herb garden. If you look carefully you might find some strawberries as well! Feel free to pick your own herbs, spring onions or leeks, or just sit back and sip some tea at the garden table. For those who want some serious hiking, just ask our helpful caretaker who can either guide you or point you in the right direction.
We live in the wilderness, completely secluded with no other neighbors around. You probably won't feel too isolated because we have two other houses on the property, with guests and staff during the day. At the end of our drive, along a main road is a small village where the local tea-pickers reside. You can catch a glimpse of this village from the balcony of the cottage. There is a dry goods shop in Buttercombai, which has rice, sugar, tea, lentils, onions and eggs. At the top of Thumanatty Road and Kotaghiri Rd. junction there is an Aavin store with all dairy products, just. 5 km away. At that lookout point, local villagers also sell vegetables and eggs. You can also order food from a couple restaurants that delivery straight to your cottage. For greater variety be sure to shop for food in Ooty town before arriving at Stumpfields. I'll have salt, pepper, tea, coffee, biscuits, cumin, chili powder, coriander, and turmeric powder and oil. So, if you are planning to cook, please bring your fresh veggies and or meat and fruit. Since we live at the top of the mountain, we have a freshwater well, and you can drink straight from the tap, no boiling needed, so don't plan on buying water. Since Ooty is 7 km from, its best to buy your food in the market in Ooty before arriving at the cottage.
  • Amazing place with a breathtaking view of the Nilgiris.

    Yohan2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had stayed at Ivy to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The house is the most beautiful place in all of Ooty. We loved our stay here. Enjoyed the thoughtful spaces in the house and the pretty upholstery. The garden and the views were breathtaking. The three dogs were very friendly and came to play with us everyday. Hariharan was very helpful throughout our trip. The whole experience was so enjoyable. The house is very peaceful and away from all the hustle bustle of the town. I highly recommend this place.

    Tanmai2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Stumpfields was a true gift. Breakfasts with gorgeous views, the friendliest dogs, a homey and beautifully decorated space, and truly wonderful hospitality! Stay here for peace!

    Abbey2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great and the information provided by the host was very helpful in deciding our trip. The place was very clean with all the basic amenities. The view was spectacular (especially the sunrise). The company of the dogs makes the stay more memorable (Azhagi followed us everywhere, Waza showed us the place were we can see the best view and Konjam was such a playful dog copying whatever the other two were doing). Time flies by playing with the dogs. I would surely come again to Mala's place on my next trip to Kotagiri/Ooty. I would recommend travellers to read the description carefully and then decide to book. This place may not be everyone's cup of tea. Things such as uneven driveway to Villa, roaming dogs, no restaurants, inconsistent network, no staffs during night, steep walking could bother many, but none was a problem for us. The stay and view is all worth all of it. I would recommend the place to everyone.

  • Beautiful location..scenic view...great host..perfect stay.

    Praveen2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazingly beautiful place. Definitely going back

    Niyati2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the cottage are just stunning. Can spend hours just sitting on the garden swing and staring at the garden filled with flowers and the mountains beyond. Very classy cottage with very good amenities. The only thing that could be better is the pavement /path that leads up to the cottage where parking is. It was uneven , dirt roads for most part. Also, they are not kidding when they say the hike up to the cottage is steep! If you are okay with that, fabulous place worth staying.

    Tarika2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place. Serene , green and alive. The dogs were charming. No network available though. So you can expect to get cut off from the virtual world. A must go.

The Tharavadu Royal Farm is with great view located above 3000 feet sea level. The canal side independent cottages are surrounded by natural forest, mountains and tea plantations. Over all you will love my place for the location, farm with loads of domestic animals & we have activities like fishing etc. Above all our courteous staff will pamper you with excellent hospitality. My place is good for couples, business travelers, families and gathering for friends.
There’s never wrong time of year to visit our cottages which are mix of both traditional and contemporary cottages on the crest of a tea and coffee estate surrounded by natural rain forest. You will find the cottage’s interior very well kept and fully furnished with all the amenities you need to be as comfortable as possible during your stay. LCD TV with satellite DVD player for your entertainment.
The neighborhood attractions are the canal in front of the tea estate and natural pond just walk away. Forest life with excellent birding and jungle life.
  • Beautiful is an understatement!! A hidden gem in the middle of a Forest! The food was just amazing and served with lodz of love:) All requests including the small ones were taken care off quickly.. will come back here again n again for sure :)

    Unnikrishnan2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Spend more than 1 night. You’ll feel at home here, maybe even better. This is the spot for any couples or families that want to be surrounded by nature - fish ponds, cattle, birds, banana trees. Madhu and his wife are beyond accommodating and thoughtful. The food is excellent should you arrange that. Thanks again for having us on our bicycle trip around the world.

    Erik2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Placed at an amazing location this place has a lot to offer. We loved the hospitality and home cooked food made with love. Will go back again and again.

  • Awesome place in the middle of tea and coffee estate. Nice getaway from busy city life. The property has its own stream!! It has everything from cowshed to bird farm to fish farm to organic garden. Also spacious kids play area. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Great place for group outings and family outings. Best part about the stay is the host. Both Madhu and his wife are very friendly and helpful. Aunty was very helpful with accommodating all our requests since we have a 7-month-old baby. Good homely food for reasonable price. Lot of things to explore around the place. Looking forward to my next visit here!!!

    Vinayak2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Madhu Uncle's place. The communication was super easy and quick and the place looks exactly like it does on the pictures. The neighborhood is very quiet! Would absolutely recommend to stay there! and don't miss the home cooked food.

    Sunil2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Although Madhu's place is about 30 kilometers from Wayanad, I would strongly recommend it for the sheer beauty of its surroundings. It was for the first time I stayed at a farmhouse, and I ended up spending hours just exploring the little details that everything around the farm carried. The food prepared by Sheila aunty was delicious, and so were the conversations with Madhu. I will recommend renting a scooter, which is easily available, if you are staying here.

    Sankalp2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, pictures don't do justice to this beautiful tea estate which has a animal farm attached. One can spend days here if you like the calm and quiet of the nature.

    Sayan2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place with a river stream on sides , tea fields , fish ponds and whatever you ask for. The area is well maintained . One will get to eat nice home cooked food for a cheap rate and the taste of food can easily beat a five star hotel. All in all , it's a great place to stay. Better have your Own vehicle to roam around places .

Please do not send me your phone number and expect call back. Airbnb does not allow to exchange phone numbers or e-mail id till reservation is made. When you send me your phone number or e mail id it comes hidden. Please print directions from google maps, google fuschia kotagiri. Cabin 7 is small and in very wooded area, forest I grew around here. If you don’t want to be in Forrest surrounded by trees then may be this one is not for you.
We offer nine beautiful cabins with attached baths for nature lovers & health conscious travelers alike. Also its a paradise for bird watchers. If you have any health issue that prevents you from walking short distances apx 300 meters on walk way , this isn't the place for you. Each cabin varies from 1500 to 2500 per night and provides accommodation for two people not three. At one point in time this entire area was internationally deemed as the second best climate in the world after Pasadena, California. Gone those days and it will get worst. This place 'Fuschia' (named after the beautiful non indigenous flower in a bell shape) happens also to have many of these flowers in a huge spectrum of colors. There is a Hindu temple which is right next to parking lot, over a period of time local farmers have planted tea on the road, this causes an inconvenience to walk, but at the same time it's a little historic reflecting it's original state. You have to walk 10 min from the parking lot on a nice scenic trail to reach the cabins (I love calling this an automatic tread mill). But once again if you have difficulty walking also if your are city person there is nothing here for you. You will be bored from surroundings and regret on your decision of coming here. By the same token if you love grandeur of nature and don't want to spend too much money then you will be in love at first sight. There are no shops and restaurants around but aren't you sick of them? Anyway these cabins are Large, Medium and small with attach very clean baths, each cabin got king size beds, one small cabin with smaller size bed but two can cuddle. Also this is not the place where you want to measure the size of the cabin but vastness of outside beauty. Also each bath got hot shower with low pressure, bucket bath is way to go with geyser heated water. This place is zero star, to me this star ranking system is good for cities. In old days there were no star system and people live quite nice lives in villages compare to artificial life we are pushing ourselves into in cities. This is back to basics concept and coming here you are going back in time. Jack London, Shakespeare and list goes on who lived in simple cabins or cottages, which probably helped sharpened there brains. Anyway bathrooms got color combination tiles, granite, high end plumbing fittings, very colorful wash basins which I picked up from Thailand. You can also enjoy Gazebo/Sun room just to kick back or do nothing all day and rest after that in the evening by the fire side. For wild life lovers watch heard of Bison's, lots of birds etc. Only animals I have seen are Wild boars, Deer, Porcupines, Rabbits, one time I counted heard of 33 Bison, Leopards and vast variety of birds. Just to be on record last sighting of pair of leopard was on evening of Feb 8th ,2015 by me and Gardner Sandhu for about 5 min with flash light across the creek. April 26th evening all guests saw pair of leopard at distance, Feb 2016 we saw three bears. September 18h our dog was taken by Leopard right in front of cook and gardener, since then till now I’ve seen many time and stop counting, don’t be scared they only come for cats and dogs. About the size of golden reteriver or little bigger but never heard attacking cows or human, only active at night. I saw two with flash light and they walked away, made my evening and I consider my self lucky enough to sight them. Seeing animals and birds is healthy sight since they are loosing there homes to viscous human beings who are not hesitant to kill them, cut forest and burn. Personally me working hard for past few years won the battle but lost the war. When you come here you will see what I mean. As far this place goes you can go on mild to moderate hike to waterfall or if you are courage's enough then climb tall mountain right in front of you, you can also walk on a trail to village called Bibin, usually village people are very welcoming and will invite you for tea or coffee into there homes. Also to make you feel better all the money you give for these cabins eventually trickle down to poverty driven people who were born in poverty and after working hard all there lives still living in poverty. There lives are almost like modern day slavery, dark side of this paradise. Especially women who pluck tea leaves under hot sun or rain and get paid very little. Surprisingly they always have beautiful smile in spite of going through never ending hardships unlike people in big cities. Anyway you are not coming here to end world hunger but to enjoy your time so lets get to the point. This place is little bit off the beaten path and very few people live around this area. If you like inner cities person then again this is not the place for you. I don't want to discourage you not to come but same time bit concern if this is a good match for you. Since there are no shops all around here so you can do all the shopping in Kotagiri and stack up the refrigerator. Mostly its the caretakers who goes and do shopping for you to kotagiri market and pass on the bills to you of what ever price they paid plus small profit on top, but still your meals price is not that high. For couple having Breakfast, lunch and dinner it will cost 1200 Rs a day, for single person 600 Rs a day, if you skip either meal then. OST will be less. Its quite a task for them to bringing groceries, gas calendar etc back down hill from kotagiri. I am personally hardly involved in doing anything around here other then to communicate with you and pass your phone number to Ishwar. Staying here is brilliant idea to contribute to poor, simultaneously you get your pleasure of staying in beautiful setting with awesome beauty around, you go to bed with noise of waterfall and wake up to the sound of birds. When you leave you can be proud of contributing towards not so privileged everyday life people in Nilgiris. Staying here American novelist John Muir's saying applies " A day spent in a nature is a day added to your life". If you have more then a back pack or carry on's then guys will be courteous enough to give you helping hand. I am sure they will appreciate tips too. People around are very humble and down to earth. Try not arrive very late at night but if you do please inform Ishwar. Can't buy beer or hard liquor around. Please bring Flash lights, books you always wanted to read. Please do not littler, have respect for next visitors and environment around. Some lady I never met tossed dirty diaper in the tea estate during there stay, I hope she never comes back again. Since it is such a small place no guarantee you will get cabin. Oh by the way water fall doesn't look as nice due to deforestation. Some people especially coming from cities buying land have no respect for nature and they are not hesitant to cut trees which took years to grow. Land without trees look bare and horrible. Forest around here with old matured trees is diminishing very quickly, wild animals loosing there home. Criminal actives in cutting Shola trees ( Indigenous trees) is quite common here especially by outsider not the locals. This is crying shame, we talk about vanishing Amazon forest but this is happening right here in Nilgiris. Unfortunately none of the rich tea planters all around raises voice or concern over deforestation. But if labor working in fields demand bit more money in wages that is four letter word to them. Anyway morning and evenings are very pleasant. Do not wonder off during afternoon, sun can be strong. If you are not in a good shape don't attempt to go on hike especially if you are heavy smoker. Most of the time I am not here but just in case if I am here and I happen to be driving to Kotagiri then I would love to give you ride from Ooty to Kotagiri. Also if you need help with pick up and drop off there is a real nice guy who got small New car and he can take you around sight seeing etc for fair price also pick you up from Coimbatore train station or airport and drop you back. Same applies to hikers, we got pro who know Nilgiris like back of his hand and all the hikes in this region, his name Anil and you can ask me his cell number.
I love this place because for couple of reasons , you can be in a quite serene and quaint place . Especially in India it is hard to find very quite places without ear deafening noise everywhere. Since there are no roads around so you don't even hear traffic. Winters are very nice and moderate. Summer can be warm . No air pollution or noise pollution around. Big towns around are quite polluted and dirty. Ooty and Coonoor are not what they use to be. During high season in summer streets are packed with tourist shoulder to shoulder with water shortage in hotel rooms. There are lot of restaurants in Ooty also fast food chains like Domino Pizza, Subway, Baskin Robins South Indian restaurants especially Ananda Bhawan. Its good Idea to get out and take day trip to Coonor and Ooty. If you go to Ooty visit Vegetable market and fish market. You really get good fish there and Baby will cook for you. Also its fun to take small train ride from Ooty to Coonor. Its called blue mountain train. Credit goes to British bringing train to ooty going back century. Please keep in mind this is small place middle of nowhere and can accommodate only few people at a time. Things can go wrong, power failure due to storms, monkeys can get inside the kitchen. So far haven't had any crises. but this applies to every day life in Nilgiris. Avoid long hikes if you are not in a shape, especially during hot sun. Avoid going too close to bison to take pictures. This area is free range for Bisons and some days there are lot of them and some days non. Its really fun to ride small train which is also called Blue Mountain Railways, it runs from Ooty to Coonoor also from Ooty to Metapalaum via Coonor. Locomotive enthusiastic comes from all over the world to ride steam engine which is Apx over 100 year old. If it was not for British we wont have these trains running today.
  • Fuschia is a special experience. Set amongst beautiful tea plantations in the Kotogiri highlands overlooking a stunning waterfall, the property is an oasis of tranquility in often chaotic India. Although the accommodation is somewhat basic, the food and hospitality are outstanding. Baby is an excellent cook, Ishwaran helps in any way required in taking care of the property while Shanti maintains the rooms. Sharan, the owner, has a genuine passion for preserving local nature and truly cares about contributing to the local people. It was a pleasure to get to know Sharan and his crew and we loved our experiences around the campfire and family style dinner table. If you are looking for a genuine back to nature experience supported by caring local people Fuschia is for you.

  • It was a really amazing experience staying there, food cooked by Baby was fresh and tasty also Ishwar sir was very supportive, we stayed in cabin #2 and the view was great it was clean and had all amenities. We will definitely be coming back again. Also we met Sharan sir and got to hear lots of his intresting life stories.

  • This is the best place hands hands down for a small group of friends or even couples..waking up to a breathtaking view and the scrumptious breakfast made it a lot more enjoyable trip..the hospitality is commendable and the location is just too good.. Would choose this place over Ooty any day.. Considering the calm and serene atmosphere added with less hassle from other tourists, this is a great place.

  • Very nice property, Really a good place to connect with nature. Quite and serene place. Comfortable and clean rooms, Good food, friendly and courteous staff. You can enjoy the various natural trails in and around the property like the meditation rock as well as a wonderful waterfall which is 25 mins walk through the property.

Nestled in the Nilgiri Mountains at 8,000ft, just below Doddabetta Peak, this self-catering apartment with a fully equipped kitchen has a master bedroom and a sleeping loft. Surrounded by reserve forest and tea plantations, the view is stunning. On the same property is the large house, Stumpfields, which also hosts guests when the owners are travelling, and a smaller apartment, Ivy just below Bilberry, that hosts two guests. While each house is fully private, the gardens and grounds are shared.
Just 7 kilometers outside of Ooty town, this property is close to all the major tourist highlights but is secluded and remote at the same time. Away from the hustle and bustle of Ooty town, Bilberry Cottage is a family-friendly peaceful retreat, overlooking tea estates, wild forest, and mountain ridges. We have staff here during the day to support guests, and at night our staff are only a phone call away should there be any questions or concerns. We have well-equipped kitchens so you can cook your own food. If you would rather hire one of our ladies to cook for you please bring your own groceries and look at our" BOOK A COOK" option found in our house manual. We urge only resilient, nature loving, independent, resourceful, adventuresome people to book a holiday here. Our property is not suitable for guests who have major medical concerns, who are unable to walk 300 meters up a hill or who are very elderly. Its a wild and steep terrain, and at night you will not hear the noise of traffic, but rather the sound of wind in the trees, owls in the dark, rain on the roofs, bird and animal calls. Let your body and mind re-set and re-charge as you decompress and let the nature around you remind you there is a different way to live.
We live in the wilderness, completely secluded with no other houses around, except Stumpfields and Ivy. However, since there are usually other guests on our property and staff present in the day time, you won't feel completely isolated. At the end of our drive, along a main road is a small village where the local tea-pickers reside. You can catch a glimpse of this village from the balcony of the cottage. We are in the middle of a totally undeveloped 10 acre piece of land that is surrounded by and overlooks government reserve forest. Our access to trails, extraordinary views, glimpses of wild animals and wide variety of birds in this high altitude rain forset and peace and solitude make our place unique among the overly commercialized, over crowded tourist hotels and inns in and around Ooty. We take pride in our efforts to protect the environment around our house. We keep our grounds and the surrounding forest and pastures around us clean with absolutely zero litter. We ask that you help us keep it pristine.
  • I have visited this place thrice already. Have stayed in all 3 properties - Ivy, Bilberry and Stumpfields. All 3 have its own charm. Please don't think twice before booking either of the three depending on the no of people travelling. I don't shy away from calling this my home away from home. You will be spellbound by the thoughtful touches, hospitality, dogs, balcony, swing, garden, and I can just go on. Waza and Allegria officially made me dog lovers. You will be surprised by how playful they are. Irrespective of the mindset you are in, a couple of nights here, and you will go back in peace :) Only prerequisite to Stumpfields and Ooty in general - An experienced driver :)

  • Amazing property with breathtaking views. The cottages are sparkling clean, have balconies with stunning views, and are adequately stocked. There are large lawns where you can loiter around or play with the hosts' 3 lovely dogs. The property borders the forest so you sometimes get to see Bison grazing around. I highly recommend this place for nature lovers who enjoy silence (definitely not a place for loud parties).

  • Would definitely recommend a trip to Ooty just to stay at mala’s wonderful home. Everything here is just perfect right and has something which will appeal to adults and kids too. Cant wait to be back.

  • Amazing place. It must be one of the best stay i ever had.

    Sunu2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • romantic, spacious, with a breathtaking view! the grounds are well manicured and gorgeous. do plan to spend some time at the cottage to take in the atmosphere. few tips: 1) i do recommend you get a driver or have your own ride. we arranged one at the bus station. finding an uber from the cottage is difficult . 2) bring some house slippers or woolen socks. the stone floors get cold in the winter. while the hot water in the shower didn’t last too long we heated our own water for a bucket bath quite comfortably. the fireplace was charming and we enjoyed curling up to it. Hari is such a helpful gent and a great resource! despite minor logistical inconveniences of getting there and leaving, staying outside of ooty is 100% worth the effort! We definitely unplugged, woke up to the sunrise cresting over the mountains, and breathed fresh misty mountain air. would def stay again!

    Sonny2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The location and property are great with an amazing view of the hills. The dogs are very friendly and well-behaved. The only problem was hot water. The geezer takes too long but the hot water lasts only for a few minutes. Regarding food, the nearest restaurant (5 star) is 1.3 km away. Otherwise, you can drive down to the town, which is 6 km further. They also have an option of book-a-cook, but you need to get groceries. If these options are not feasible, you can just get something on the way back from the town and heat it up later for dinner; there's a fully equipped kitchen. P.S. Do not be surprised to see herbivores like bison, sambar, hare, etc. in the front yard after dusk.

  • A must place in ooty to stay if you want to enjoy the perfect countryside life. It has the perfect setup for a couple, a family or even for friends. Waking up to such an amazing view with such a well maintained garden is a bliss to the eyes. The caretakers Hari, Parvati and Devi will welcome with the sweetest smile and the three dogs will host you along. The provision of kitchen and the fireplace makes it extra special. The use of the such simple things to make it so gorgeous will definitely woo your heart as it did mine.

We are family looking forward to hosting you at a comfortable and cozy house that is set amidst a carpet of green, overlooked by dense forest and the occasional witness to wildlife such as the Indian Gaur and the Barking Deer. With ample space to go on walks, treks and taking in nature, this is an ideal place for a blissful weekend getaway!
We are situated in a quiet, peaceful space that consists of a two floor, two bedroom and two bathroom homestay. This is accompanied by a deck with a beautiful view (especially sunrises) and a dining room/kitchenette. We also do enjoy meals with our guests and look forward to amazing conversations over lovely home-cooked food.
Our house is in the middle of tea plantations and many occasions we could see Indian Gaur grassing as single or as herds. The sight sun rise from the deck is so beautiful.
  • The best Hospitality experience we had for our two day stay at Nilgiri's Calling Mr. and Mrs. Jacob were really amazing to make guests Feel@Home. In the past I had been to many home stay's but never liked most of the stays..but this stay at Nilgiri's Calling blown my mind away. One more important thing I have to mention is the food cooked by Mrs. Jacob with extra love and care was very tasty. The view from the balcony suite is mesmerizing and peaceful The rooms are clean and neat. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob guided us really well to visit the places around Ooty and Coonor. Kids had good interaction with pets, dogs Ira and Pax. Catty Nia and her 4 Kittens , Cage free Chickens , Bee Hive. You can spot different kinds of Birds around. Yes...you can find sparrows too which are out of the city these days. Honestly enjoyed the stay far from the City hustle bustle and Office life. This Home really deserve 5+ rating. Helper Mr. Durba was kind enough to make stay memorable. Thanks again Mr. Jacob and Family..All the best and god bless. Regards, Darshan , Raju , Sowmya, Sharada, Daivik, Samarth and Punit.

  • This one has my heart! The house is very pretty with a kind of view you'd want to wake up to every day. It is sparkling clean, comfy and well equipped with an amazing host. Mr. Stephen was kind enough to lend one of his bikes to us. The family is very welcoming and warm. Definitely one of the best Airbnb experiences we've had.

    Zainab2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I spent seven glorious nights at Mr Jacob's place in Kotagiri. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to take it easy, recharge your batteries and experience the beautiful mountain weather of Coonoor/Kotagiri. The apartment is clean, has a great view of the tea plantation, and its deck is terrific to see the sunrise and the night stars. The kitchen has a fridge, a microwave and a water filter and met most of my needs. I did not have a car for the week and decided to walk everywhere. The nearest village is 2 kms away and takes 15-20mins to get to on foot. I did rent a car one day to see the sights of Coonoor, and that worked out wonderfully. Mr and Mrs Jacob are lovely hosts, and I would recommend (almost insist) that you eat all your meals in their house. It's simple, elegant, tasty Indian cooking at its best. Someone from the family almost always sits with you while you eat, and you can find out more about life in Kotagiri. Mr Stephen Jacob was kind enough to drive me to Kodanad Sunrise Point for a brilliant sunrise. Doorba ji, the housekeeper, went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable, and I am grateful for that. I enjoyed my interactions with Shawn (whose photographs are lovely and all over the house) and Yohan, and they were wonderful, friendly boys who are talented and kind human beings. I went on a morning hike with Anthony anna to a nearby hill, and it was delightful. But undoubtedly, my favourite part of the week I spent there was spending time with the two dogs. Pax, who is a 3-year-old Rottweiler and Ira is a 3-month-old Labrador, and they completely captured my heart. They are the sweetest dogs in the world, and if you like spending time with dogs, Pax and Ira will make the stay worth it on their might. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience warm hospitality, lovely people and beautiful pets. The view is just the icing on the cake. I can't wait to go back and relive my week.

  • Thanks for being a great host. Your place was amazing & will definently recommend to our friends & family . Food was home cooked very deliciously for additional charge. View is so amazing that pictures doesn't do any justice. Morning trail walk with this view was breathtaking. My whole family of 7 adult's & 1 kid was able to accommodate nicely, it's a spacious private property. All recommendations made by Mr.Stephen was worth it to try for sure. Hope to go there again in future. This was my 1st family get together after 10 years and they made it more amazing.

    Fatima2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Shawn's father came to pick us up in his car because our taxi broke down 7 kilometres before the property. We were greeted with a very warm welcome and the overall property was just amazing to stay at. I'd definitely want to come again whenever time permits next.

  • A great location and stay for two families of ours. Morning we got up with birds chirping. A mesmerizing view from the balcony. Very clean and well managed property with wonderful Superhost. We had a great time with Mr. and Mrs. Stephen. Our kids had a great time with pets. Must tell that the special dinner prepared was awesome. Must try their home made pickle. Caretaker Drubha was very helpful. I will definitely recommend the place for families who want to have good times in the midst of nature.

  • The house is located atop a hill a bit outside of the city center. The view from the window is breathtaking. Since it's a bit outside, auto walas and cabbies charge you more. There's doorstep delivery from swiggy with ample options. Mr. Vijayaprabu was always quick to respond to any queries. We asked for a late check-out and he promptly agreed. 5+ stars for the caretaker Jose. He's just amazing with his hospitality. Always there for you needs. There are no shops around the house and we needed some groceries. We asked Jose and he promptly delivered what we needed. Would definitely recommend to fellow travelers.

Your food cost per couple will be apx 1200 Rs, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s totally worth it given location etc. If you choose not to partake in meals, your cost will be less.. if you are city people please dong come here, not good match. I totally respect you time off from work.
Surrounded by forest, tea plants, and the soothing sounds of a tumbling waterfall.

  • Truly amazing place. Sharan, Ishwar and Baby (Dhanalakshmi) took care of us in every possible way. We were apprehensiveat first because we were traveling with 2yr old kid, but the place, people and their hospitality made this visit super memorable for us. Be ready for a bit of walk, a bit of cold, random sightings of bison, bears(we missed by a few mins). Be ready also to stay disconnected while you're here and you'll totally enjoy this place. The food by Baby is amazing. Special thanks for tending to needs of our kid while we were there. Really appreciate it! Look forward to being there in future.

The place is just as mentioned - clean and comfortable. The property is in a tea estate. There is a nice waterfall where you can hike to, a meditation rock if you are looking for some quiet time. The caretakers - Iswar and Baby are very hospitable and make the best food!

  • Sublime hikes, whether it's sunny or cloudy, everything is beautiful in these tea fields. The accommodation is very beautiful but very humid, it is the climate in these mountains .. it is better to provide warm clothes. The meals are delicious and the atmosphere is very warm, it is a special time to meet other visitors. Sharan and Baby's family are very kind and knowledgeable. I will return with pleasure.

Nestled in the Nilgiri Mountains at 8,000ft, just below Doddabetta Peak on 1.5 acres, this self-catering four bedroom house with porches, picnic area and a fireplace is a peaceful getaway. Surrounded by national reserve forests and tea plantations, the view is stunning. Just 7 kilometers outside of Ooty town, this property is close to all the major tourist highlights but is secluded at the same time. You get the entire house to yourself, but share the garden and outdoors with other guests.
Just 7 kilometers outside of Ooty town, this property is close to all the major tourist highlights but is secluded and remote at the same time. Away from the hustle and bustle of Ooty town, Stumpfields is a peaceful, family-friendly retreat, overlooking tea estates, wild forest, and mountain ridges. Parties, loud music and excessive drinking are not welcome at our home. Guests are asked to respect the quiet hours from 10 pm to 8am. Guests will have exclusive access to the entire house, patio, and picnic table. We have staff here during the day to support guests, and at night, they are only a phone call away should there be any concerns. We have beautifully equipped kitchens so you can cook your own food. However, we understand not everyone wants to cook on their vacation so you can "BOOK A COOK," (see details in house manual). We urge only resilient, nature-loving, independent, resourceful, adventuresome people to book a holiday here. Other times of the year, especially in the monsoon, it's just incredibly dark. The mountains of Ooty are also very cool year round, especially at night. While the indoors are warm and cozy, the mountain air outside is brisk! For those who want room service, wifi, TV's, a restaurant, and 24-hour staff service we recommend you book a hotel in the town of Ooty. Come here ready to unplug from emails and the internet, TV's and movies, and try curling up by the open fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. Let your body and mind re-set and re-charge as you decompress and let the nature around you remind you there is a different way to live.

  • The place (Stumpfields) was really beautiful. It had its own yard and the rooms were clean and had a amazing views all around. It was a sight to watch sunrise sitting in one of those rooms. Special mention for Hari, Parvathy and Devi. They were really helpful and cooked delicious food. The location is exactly as mentioned in the description. The drive to the top throws you off a little for the first but you will get used to it. I would highly recommend this place if you plan on visiting Ooty.

  • Good 1. Beautiful place & scenery 2. Nice deco and ambiance 3. Clean 4. There is hot water 5. The place is as how it is described 6. Friendly dogs 7. Sheets & Bed were clean 8. Big space of garden to chill and have tea 9. Great place to stay for a big family Bad 1. Our bad we arrived around 7PM plus. It was raining, road were muddy and there was no electricity. For such rare instances like this, the host should guide us till we reach the house door. We thought of going back half way, since we had so much difficulty finding the place, not able to see the road. Felt like driving towards a dead end. But, if you arrive while it is bright, I believe your check in would have been smooth with no issues. To conclude, we had a beautiful stay. Will definitely stay in future. Thank you much for the wonderful experience... :)

  • This is one beautiful property. The pictures definitely don’t do justice to how picturesque the place is. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to getaway from the chaos of city life. The interiors are exquisite. You’ll not want to leave the property. The dogs are super friendly and safe. All in all, we had a splendid experience at Stumpfields. Would visit again for sure.

  • Mala's place is one of the best AirBnB's I have stayed at! It is a cozy and beautifully done cottage on the inside with breathtaking views on the outside. There's books in almost all bedrooms and the kitchen is very well equipped. It definitely takes you to a different world! Waking up to this view is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The road leading to the cottage is steep and tricky. There are 3 dogs on the premises and they are the friendliest! I definitely recommend visiting Stumpfields when you are in Ooty or just plan a trip to Ooty so you can stay there!

    Shivani2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Stumpfield was a magical place. It brings out child-like joy from within you. We were a group of friends but families with kids will love the stay too. It's absolutely perfect for bonding. Every nook has something special to discover. It's even better than the pictures, really. You can cozy up by the fireplace and read one of the many books placed all over the cottage, cloudgaze/stargaze, take long walks amidst the greens, have lovely tea sessions & brunches on the outdoor picnic table or run around and play with the dogs. Ooty town is just a few minutes drive away and thus easily accessible for grocery shopping and sightseeing (we didn't want to leave the cottage at all, though). The caretakers are very sweet and helpful. All the information you would require is communicated to you beforehand from the hosts. If you're lucky enough to find dates to book this cottage, you can be assured of a wonderful, tranquil and dream-like vacation.

  • Oh, what a spectacular stay we had at Stumpfields. The pictures are accurate and you will find yourself in a serene and calm setting. Do ensure to wake up early for the sunrise - it is simply stunning and magical. We were well prepared for the chilly overnight weather but still had the ladies start us a fire, which was nice. We also brought our own provisions and “Booked a Cook”. The ladies-Parvati and Devi-made the four of us a splendid meal. Superb! Hari, the house manager, was available and ready to answer all of our questions and provide any advice we sought. Hari even went out of his way to call us quickly after our departure to notify us of items we left behind providing us enough time to turn around and retrieve them! An extra special thank you!! We stayed two nights and during our one full day half of our party went in to Ooty town to explore and the other half hiked up to the Tea Park from the estate to explore and returned to sit in the gardens and read. We were all very happy with our time. Stumpfields is simply a treasure - do not miss your opportunity to stay here.

  • We had an amazing time at stump fields. The feel of the ambience of the house was just right for the family . Hari was really an Superhost along with Parvati and another lady with her . LOCATED: 5 minutes walk from the BOTANICAL GARDEN !!! Suite room- Wood-Panelled walls. Similar to a high-end-luxury heritage property, (but offered at a price even less than a low-budget room, by a Non-profit organisation). CENTRAL LOCATION - so it is safe, easy to find local transport, major tourist spots easily accessible. FOOD & ROOM SERVICE IS AVAILABLE - Also, choice of restaurants located just across the road. JUST 500 meters from MAIN COMMERCIAL ROAD (for Shopping & Dining out). CAR PARK.
This is a posh Luxury Double room Suite with one Double Cot, similar to a high-end-luxury heritage property, but offered at a price even less than a low-budget room. Being a Non-profit charitable organisation, we offer the lowest budget-pricing possible, in a prime location within the heart of Ooty. The ambience here is that of an old heritage property, unlike the commonplace modern day trendy buildings. Holiday makers throng to the hills of Ooty to leave behind their stressed up life in the cities; and the last thing they want to see is another stereo-type modern space to stay in. This heritage suite is totally (solid) wood-panelled, exuding a truly Victorian ambiance. It has a Sofa-lounge section, a Dining Table section, a Dressing Table, a TV, and a Toilet. Check out the snaps, it is all in there for you to see. Unlike other low-budget properties, we are centrally located - so your family is safe, and you don’t have to hunt around looking for local transport (and then spend more than twice your Room-tariff on expensive cabs). The location further makes it easier to access most of the major tourist spots. Maximum number of guests permitted - 4 Guests Charge for each extra guest from the 3rd Guest onwards (up to 2 Guests - No extra charge) - Rs.500 per extra guest. SO WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES? 1. SUPER LOW PRICING: High-end luxury heritage properties charge exorbitantly from 5 times to 15 times our tariff - (you can check this out yourself if you feel this is an exaggeration). 2. • Lovely old building in the grounds of a temple just by the botanical gardens. Herita style decor, with a comfy bed and hot water. The building is being restored so bear with them as some of the building isn't finished. It is cold at night in the winter months, so you do need to ask for a room heater. Overall, a lovely quirky place to stay, with fantastic hospitality from Shakti the caretaker.

    Joanne2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We didn't meet Mr. Sumith but were greeted by Mr. Shakti with a big smile. He was always around and bringing tea, coffee and hot water. A wonderful, happy and pleasant man with a cute family. The room is like on the picture. The wood gives the place a warm feel. Lots of space for luggage and everything is clean, the bed is comfy. The house is mostly quiet and in a good location. Bathroom is functional, all stone, very clean, and very hot water is there if you use the left faucet. Complimentary we got cookies, toiletries and towels are fresh. The whole Club House, Residency, is an interesting place, very different from a hotel. Mr. Sumith was always there for us via WhatsApp and inquired several times about our well being during our stay. We had a great time, thank you.

  • This place has a huge parking space. Secure parking with locked gates and chained ballords. The rooms are good for bachelor's stay and very economical and close to the main Street of Ooty. Mr. Sakthi is a very good host who goes the extra mile to serve guests. I will return to this place.

  • A hidden treasure with old world charm yet easy to locate with the assistance provided from Sumit. Shakthi is the 'Man Friday' for sure. We stayed here for three nights & went around maximum places on foot. It's so centrally located yet not noisy etal. Don't miss the opportunity to stay here if you are planning to visit Ooty. Thanks Sumit & Shakthi for making our stay a memorable one.

This the smallest cabin we got and cheapest one, no wash basin in bath room. Bed pretty decent size. If you are solo traveler and want to stretch your money then not bad idea. It's not always available. If you are city person please don’t come here. Not good match.
Please read details under main listing called Look no further, this is it. FUCHIA. Comes up if you key in ooty or Kotagiri, Tamilnadu. Staying in this cabin every thing is same other then it's small
  • What an amazing place filled with fantastic people. Sharan, Baby and Iswars hospitality blew me away. The delicious food, the calmness of nature, the kindness of the local people and waking up to the sound of the waterfall turned my initial plans of staying for just 3 nights into almost a week. There is a direct bus from Ooty to Kotagiri which is so worth catching, I couldn't recommend going that little extra mile more. I cannot wait to visit again, thank you so much to everyone there, it was such a treat!

    Ashley2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place on a perfect location! The guesthouse is on a tea estate. Very well organised, clean, friendly staff, good food, lovely dogs, beautiful rooms, great walks.. need I say more? A fantastic place to relax in a hammock and read a book or to explore the beautiful hills. I came on foot, it is about 1 hour walking from the main road where the bus stops. Turn right at the tea factory.

    Per2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The place is marvelous, really close to nature. You can easily spot Bison and Porcupine there and if you are lucky then maybe you'll see a leopard. It is connected by serene beauty of waterfall and streams. Caretaker in the place, Baby Akka is super cool and cook homely food (which I had after millennia). I was given a solo lodge that was great and the place was filled with awesome people as well. Sharan sir himself is very welcoming and his hard work the on estate is laudable.

    Kanishk2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Sharan’s place is one of a kind. If you like to inhale some magnificent breath-taking nature, Sharan’s place is THE place. Not only that, he and his co-hosts Baby and Ishwar are amazing human beings. I loved every minute I spent there. Truly, one of the greatest places I stayed with Abnb. I’m truly honored and humbled to meet with such amazing souls. Kind and generous people. I hope to stay at his place again :)

  • Fuschia is truly a paradise on earth. I planned to go for only 2 days but ended up staying 6. Sharan the owner is a wonderful person with a big heart. I was very lucky to catch up with him as he’s not often at the property. Ishwar and Baby ar such lovely and caring people to. I really felt at home. Every day they surprised us with amazing food. The area is a truth paradise, the rooms are great, it is super quiet. You can only hear the waterfall. Truly heaven on earth. Thank you Sharan, Baby and Ishwar for your amazing hospitality. I’m jealous as you guys have created such a wonderful home. And are living in a paradise every day. I wish I could stay forever and hope to be back someday. I wish you all the best in your life’s!

  • Wonderful place to stay, it would be a little difficult to find the place on google maps (I followed the map and got lost 3 km away from the place) but the host helped a lot and stayed on call till I reached the stay so I would suggest to take the landmarks before you start as it’s helpful. Coming back to the rooms and food, Rooms r kept clean and food is also good and the best part is the view from the rooms and place where it’s located. The only back drop of the place would be the walking to the place from the parking. Overall, had a good experience.

    Omkar2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sharan was planting trees in his forest conservation effort at Fuschia. What an amazing guy. The caretakers of the ground are very considerate, great food. Great chats. It’s the people like Sharan I meet makes me want to come back to India over and over again. Incredible India.

An olde English cottage nestled away in a safe gated community. Private garden surroundings. 1.5 kms from Sims Park and the Bedford Market area. Good for couples, solo travellers and especially women.
The cottage is located at the end of a safe gated colony. We are close to the natural forest, and have trees on one side and a garden all round to enjoy.
  • We had the most wonderful time in Kenilworth cottage! Sabrina aunty is a great host and the house is just beautiful. Every nook in the house is decorated oh-so-beautifully by Sabrina aunty's sister; and now that I am back in the grind of work and a big city, I find myself homesick for Kenilworth cottage and Sabrina aunty's warm and kind hospitality! The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden, with a profusion of flowers, and a review would absolutely be incomplete without the mention of the delicious dinners and breakfasts we had. Rani amma cooked mouth-watering meals, which were lovingly served by Sabrina aunty. The conversation in the house never ran dry, with the most interesting stories about Sabrina aunty's illustrious family. If one wants a memorable holiday in salubrious Coonoor in a colonial home, which takes you back in time, with wholesome and delicious food, great conversation, and loving care and hospitality: Kenilworth is the homestay to go to! There's so much more I want to write; about the books that one can sit back and read in the Sun room, which is surrounded by wild roses and other flowers, which is filled with the fragrance of pine and other trees and the tea that was served.. Or the dining room which was filled with warm light from the skylight as we had delicious cheese omelettes for breakfast.. Each moment spent in Kenilworth, is worth capturing in pictures or words or both.

  • Sabrinas house is picturesque with an amazing energy - that Sabrina has too. A totally immersive experience

    Daniel2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sabrina aunty is the most caring and gracious host ever. In the 3 days that we spent with her, she pampered us with homemade cookies, bread and mousse.. along with wonderful stories from her family’s illustrious past. The food cooked by Rani Amma was absolutely wholesome and delicious. It is amazing how Sabrina aunty has kept this house spotlessly clean all by herself ! Her attention to detail in all matters relating to guests’ comfort is commendable. All in all a superb experience. Thankyou Aunty !

    Malini2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had a really nice time staying at Sabrina Aunty's place. She is a wonderful person and her hospitality was just fantastic. She went out of her way to help in various ways. The house is a 100 years old and has all kinds of great quirks. It is set at the end of a road in a beautiful neighborhood of bungalows surrounded by gorgeous tea gardens. The food at Sabrina place is just really delicious so you should certainly opt for it when she asks. It's worth it! She even baked some fresh bread for me right in her kitchen! Overall a wonderful stay, and would certainly recommend it to everyone.

  • Imagine you have an aunt in Coonoor, who insists that you come and stay with her as she came to know that you were visiting. Staying here would be something similar to that, you'll be doted on and be served excellent home cooked food with love and care. A big thank you to both Sabrina Aunty and Raani Aunty for taking care of us. The place is an old British cottage, very charming and quirky. We spent most of our time in the sun room doing nothing in particular, and we enjoyed it!

    Anoop Kumar2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sabrina is very friendly. Her room very clean. We ate only breakfast but that was very nicely done. Location to Coonoor is great Her hospitality even better

    Lalita2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you are planning to stay in Coonoor this is the place. Everything about Kenilworth is amazing. The house is so beautiful it looks like its taken from pages of some book. the place was designed and decorated by Seema aunty who is nothing less than a creative genius. you can just roam around inside the house and get amazed by the amazing collection of antiques, paintings, books and furniture. There are numerous books that you can spend your days reading in the well lit sun room. Everything is so clean and neatly arranged and organised. Its surrounded by tea estate and every side you take a walk is like a dream. And now about the host, Sabrina aunty is the best host one can ask for. if you are chatty then you can spend your day talking to her. She has hundreds of stories and incidents to talk about. She is so sweet and amicable, you will feel at home the moment you meet her. I am a movie buff and we talked hours about movies, old and new. Rani Aunty, the house help, is an extraordinary cook. She cooks finger licking chicken and curries. Sabrina aunty herself is fantastic when it comes to cooking. This is my go-to place from now on whenever i go to coonoor.

Gravityville is a 1936 English house in Ooty, India.Housed in an old colonial building, furnished with antique pieces, new quirky designs and up-cycled objects from various places.
It's the place where you'll feel safe, and cocooned. Also, it doesn't mean we're no fun we have tons of things to keep you occupied or the place is decorated with boring blue gum trees(which by the way it is!). So, we guarantee that staying at Gravityville will make you feel safe and familiar ,Sounds good, right?
We are situated about 15 minutes from Charring Cross Ooty and we are located next to the forest guesthouse also within a 5 minute walking distance of the local supermarkets, restaurants, shops and local food market. And most importantly within a 10 minute walk away from beautiful Ooty Golf Course. For your dining we have tie ups with some of the best restaurants in Ooty and will ensure you enjoy each meal without stepping out.You will always find us ready to lend a helping hand and to tend to your needs.Excellent for families or groups, stay here and enjoy the perfect vacation.
  • My family and I had a relaxing time at Karthik's property. Our plan for next time is to have more people stay (we were three adults and two kids). The onsite staff were courteous and helpful and the chef cooked us a delicious dinner. We enjoyed ourselves at this beautiful place and would certainly recommend it to families or group of friends planning to stay in Ooty.

  • This place is a gem. So quiet and peaceful. Fluffy clean towels. Quality mattress and place is cleaned everyday. We felt at home. The caretakers were very nice. Even though the property is located in a very quiet area we felt very safe. We had home cooked food (at a fee) for dinnr and it tasted great. Definitely a great choice for those visiting ooty.

    Lava2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Karthik is a great host - quick with responses. The place itself is amazing. We broke in the new years here. Rooms are spacious and clean and have Hot water. A lovely reading or general hangout room is thrown in as well The lawns are lovely. The folks running the place are not intrusive at all and are very pleasant (they have a warm-up time like most of us do :)) Given the home style fresh food nature - they need adequate heads up on food. Fresh food so nothing to complain about. Would really recommend for large groups, it's a lot of fun!

Special mention about the friendly caretaker Prem who goes out of the way to make our stay comfortable and yes he is an amazing photographer, don't miss getting your photo shoot by him. Will definitely stay at this Villa if we happen to visit Ooty again in future.

Garden and flowers add to the charm of this place. We had the best time here. Food prepared by chef was simply awesome. Prem the manager hosted us well and provided useful tips to cover the important spots in our available time. He also clicked some awesome pictures. All our requests was catered promptly. Samvasa on the hills, is a villa with a view like none other. Located at the tip of the mountain, the house overlooks the magnificent valley of the Nilgiris. Around 10 km away from the city of Coonoor and 20 km from Ooty, it is tucked away from the cityscape while being well connected to it.
Our villa is located at the peak of the mountain with a view of the valley. We have two rooms, a hall and dining. The hall and dining have a glass front making the space open yet tucked away from the cold.
  • It was a truly wonderful experience. The place and house were just picture perfect. I wont spoil the surprises in store for the new guests and just say that you get here all and maybe much more than what you expect of a good vacation trip.

  • The beauty of this place cannot be expressed in words. This place has everything around it. One can see dense forests, tea plantation and pretty houses n roads at a distance and admire it all the time. Me n my husband went there on our wedding anniversary. We wanted to have a perfect lazy getaway n this was truly that. The place is 20km from ooty, located on top of the mountains which adds on the view and beauty. Pramila (the caretaker) is a wonderful person and cooks soo delicious meals. After trying the food we didn't have any meal from outside. Property is big n they have their own tea plantations. The living room has great view. During nights it feels like the ground is shining with stars.. You get the aerial view of entire city, the location is so promising.

The place is easy to reach, sparkling clean, has a very beautiful view around the house and the staff is very very supportive and helpful. Food served here is of great quality and very tasty. • We stayed at Samvasa for a period of four days. It is certainly a holiday to remember as the location, hospitality, services etc. were top-notch. Wonderful property at the end of a hillside, with amazing views throughout the day. We had access to different weathers on all days - sunny, cloudy, foggy and the best thing was we felt we were pretty much part of the place. So serene. Also, the caretakers are doing a great job and they were highly hospitable. Amazing cook and we got to eat some good south indian food. Very accommodating as well with our requests for chai and coffee. They also directed us properly regarding sightseeing both in Coonoor and Ooty and managed to arrange commutes for us as we didn't have our own cars. Overall, a great stay and we would certainly recommend the place to fellow travellers.

    Pushkala2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • The place is located on top a hill, thus offering an amazing view of Coonoor valley. The caretakers took very good care of us and their home-cooked food was simply outstanding! The house is sparkling clean and everything is well maintained, with most modern facilities available. Highly recommend this for both couples and a small group of friends or families.

Caretakers ensured that there was no stone left unturned in our hospitality. Wonderful human beings.

  • Sushill was a great host, he is super responsive and we had a pleasant stay at his property in Coonoor. The Bungalow is pretty spacious, the bedrooms have heaters and there are geysers for both the bathrooms. The kitchen had enough utensils and appliances to make pretty much any meal for a group. It is located in a small colony just off Bedford junction. The location is nice. The view from the terrace is pretty scenic, you have a nice view of the sunrise as the whole house is facing east. Larger cars will have a really tough time getting to the bungalow itself. Smaller cars will be able to get there and it can be parked within in the property itself. We had 3 bikes with us so we were able to park them and still have enough place for another car and a few bikes inside. From the bungalow a lot of common view points/points of interest are close by. So any group staying here will have a nice and easy time getting around.

  • I booked this place last minute and was really satisfied. The location was the best in coonoor - down a quiet street surrounded by local families and only a five minute walk to "Bedford circle" where you will find all the good places to eat and shop. Also walking distance to Sims park which was beautiful. I felt really safe in the area. The house was big and spotless clean. It has a beautiful sun room at the front of the house which looks out to the mountains. A huge upstairs terrace also looks out into the mountains. Also features a large kitchen and two other bedrooms and two bathrooms. I had previously stayed in a few nearby places where I had trouble with hot water, but the hot water worked perfectly here. They also provide a heater. As well as a Wi-Fi dongle. The furnishings were really homely, lots of wood and Traditional tamil style furniture. Sushil was a great help when making the booking and Satish was extremely helpful during my stay. I never felt hesitant to contact him or ask him questions or assistance. Nothing was too much trouble for him.

    Amelia2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • The place is bang on in the middle of Coonoor so you won't find any difficulty in visiting the nearby tourist spots. Most of them are at walkable distance from the house. The house itself is absolutely worth it. No complains at all. Will be booking this place again the next time I visit Coonoor.

    Sruthik2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this house. It is so spacious! The hosts were very responsive and helpful. We really enjoyed the neighborhood as well. If I'm ever back in Coonoor I would come back to this house. :)

  • If safety is your primary goal, then this is the airbnb home you could choose as it is situated amongst some of the best people in coonoor. The Ashirvad Colony where the home is located is one of the best residential places in coonoor. The super market, medical shop, hotels plus a doctor's clinicnearby. I spoke with the neighbors and they are cordial and almost every one in the locality is hospitable and helping. The home looks recently renovated inside and the low height bed was enjoyable for my little daughter. The host Sushil and his assistant Satish were always available and helpful. The water motor switch could be placed inside the home as mine was slightly long stay could not go out switch on the motor. Except for the one suggestion I would rate this place 6/5. I will keep coming and planning to stay for a longer term because of its sheer location, walkable distance to Sims park, on the way to lamb's Rock, dolphin nose, the flowering plants and of course cordial hosts. The books collection is ultimate, they range from biography of TTK to most romantic novels of all time. Amazon and swiggy are the real deal. Amazon delivers items here and I bought an emergency light but thankfully I didn't need to use it. Swiggy delivery is available to and the place is surrounded by good restaurants and coffee shop(Cafe coffee day is 10 mins walk). The location is a plus for the property. The narrow road can be negotiated by skillfull driver as it's isn't slope but narrowness is the challenge. I got my full size suv Captiva and I must admit it's difficult but not impossible. If in doubt seek help the hosts helped with a parking. The home was cleaned well, bed covers spick and span, kitchen was neat floor was moped.

  • We were a group of 9 friends . We wanted to escape from the busy dull weekdays of bangalore life. We booked for a night at cascades on july 13 . We planned to reach cascades by 5 in the evening but reached there by 9 pm. Google map shows the correct location but its little tricky to reach there and it's better call Rozario when you reach ooty ,such a humble person and above all the chef who cooked us the best chicken pepper and dal curry we ever had. The night view of the twinkling mattupetty town view from cascades is a bliss. Also the morning sunrise, if you are lucky enough to wake up in such a cold morning, is an eye candy. Abhi and his team were very much responsive to our needs. We got tea and coffee whenever we asked for. A morning trek through the tea garden to the nearby waterfall is refreshing . If you are lucky enough you could see few bisons but anyways you will their pugmarks for sure. Thank you abhi and his team for hosting us and i suggest its better to spend at least two days for enjoying the beauty of this wonderful place. On our return to bangalore we planned to take a detour via connor and Rozario guided us through a shortcut route which connects kotagiri to coonoor and that was a really a challenging and exciting narrow road through the plantation but saved a lot of time. • Overall value for money stay, campfire, Sunrise will in front of you rooms and peace full stay. Its is a nice place to stay outside ooty. Bit difficult to find the address of place using google maps. Rooms were clean and view from hotel is awesome. Waterfall is behind the hotel but you have to go early in the morning. Ooty is far from there at least 45min drive but you will enjoy the view on the way to cascade's.

It's not just central to all key tourist locations, but also notably peaceful. Easy check-in, quick host responses, good food, great ambience; an absolute value, if not more, for your money. Keep up the good work!

  • Worth to spent one night.. At the end they order food from outside restorent only so don't expect food to be super amazing..

    Prashant2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Astonishing views, including Sunset through the valley carved between mountains, and Morning mist. Great hospitality and service by all the people working there. You are well taken care of. Doesn't matter if you are 2 or 20, the facilities aren't compromised which is commendable. They will help arrange logistics very well. They have very good and experienced manager. Food needs to be arranged by own, They don't provide any Lunch and Dinner as they can't cook anything there as per govt commercial rules. So double check if some site says otherwise. Else, Swiggy Zomato both deliver good food to the top. Complementary Breakfast they will get for you to the hill top in the morning from the city, will be hot served. Road to the property is both good and bad.. bad closer to the property. This is one area where efforts need to be put to prevent spoilers. Communication was good, they send mails to the customers before trip, giving info about property and some tips. Overall.. great experience and definitely worth visiting more than once.

  • If I was a writer, I could have written a brilliantly thought of review but since I'm not this is my honest experience at Aventura. Located on Tiger hill, Aventura is literally and figuratively heaven on earth. As a first timer solo female traveller, I was hesitant to stay alone on a campsite and I did shoot questions at the owners who patiently answered all my queries. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the spectacular view of the mountains and a pretty campsite but what takes the cake is the hospitality they offered. The owners actually visit and suggest places that can take your breath away ( Thank you, Prateksh) and the manager, Mr. Jerome, takes care of you like family ( stories, cooking tips and shares his food too, ). The staff is cordial and the warmth at Aventura is to cherish for a lifetime. Thank you for the amazing hospitality and love !

    Anagha2019-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the campsite views are spectacular, watching the sunrise and the stars in the evening were the particular highlights. Dev and his team go out of their way to make your stay comfortable, no request no matter how big or small went unfulfilled, they even helped me plan my route around India. I couldn't rate the service better. I stayed a day extra than anticipated and would love to come back and let Aventura host me again.

For details check out " Fuschia, Kotagiri" also.
We offer nine beautiful cabins with attached baths for nature lovers & health conscious travelers alike. Also its a paradise for bird watchers. If you have any health issue that prevents you from walking short distances apx 300 meters on walk way , this isn't the place for you. Each cabin provide iaccommodation for two people not three. September 18h our dog was taken by Leopard right in front of cook and gardener, they are size of golden reteriver or little bigger but never heard attacking cowns cows or animal, only active at night. When you come here you will see what I mean, deforestation. Mostly its the caretakers who goes and do shopping for you to kotagiri market and buy fresh stuff. Each meal for one person will cost you 200 INR. Lot of effort goes into cooking and it’s open kitchen and dining, you can watch how they cook or indulge. Do not arrive when its dark. Some people especially coming from cities buying land have no respect for nature and they are not hesitant to cut trees which took years to grow in 5 min. Do not wonder off during afternoon. Over here UV rays are very strong and you can get heat stroke. If you are not is good shape don't attempt to go on hike especially heavy smokers. Same applies to hikers, we got pros who know Nilgiris like back of there had and all the hikes in this region, there names Anil and kananan
Fresh life to Shola trees OO09_SINGH STAFF REPORTER UDHAGAMANDALAM: NOVEMB(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) IST UPDATED: NOVEMB(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) IST Reintroducing native Shola species of trees and involving the community in both nurturing and protecting the environment is the aim of Sharan Deep Singh, a Punjabi who settled in Kotagiri many years ago. At his sprawling 7-acre property (resort) in Kotagiri, Mr. Singh has planted native Shola trees within the tea plantations as a way of replanting lost forest. Click Here! “I loved The Nilgiris as people are so friendly. I saw the forests vanishing around me, and invasive trees such as Eucalyptus and wattle flourishing. I realised that the Sholas were disappearing and so I began reintroducing them into my own land,” he said. One can spot many birds, including jungle fowl, hummingbirds, bull-bulls, laughing thrush, flycatchers, peacocks, doves and hawks in his estate. Indian Gaur and leopards as well as sloth bears are also spotted regularly. “I leave the bananas, oranges and guava trees to the macaques too,” he said. Mr. Singh has planted hundreds of trees on his land and the area surrounding it. He also helps members of the local community with financial packages, and takes the conservation message to them. He supports the education of children and gives “pension” to the aged and differently abled, and also provides job opportunities to locals at his resort. “I will leave the resort to them, or to a trust, so that the income generated by renting the rooms can be diverted back to the community. I have been receiving so much love from people here, and the environment, and I just want to give back,” he said.
  • A place away from the Maddening crowd, where there is peace, tranquility and oneness with nature. An absolute relaxation sets in. The ambience of the home stay is breathtaking as it is inside a tea estate. The food prepared by baby was simply amazing. Tasted just like home and the treatment too was just like home. The food was so great that we decided to have all our meals in the homestay itself.. it was very pocket friendly as well. The hosts and the staff were so warm and greeted us with smiles followed up by good long chats. The hotel staff was helpful and thanks to Mr. Sharan Deep who gave us tips to visit local places. The homestay is around 6 kms drive from kotagiri but still away from the hustle bustle. The moment we stepped into Fuschia we were awestruck with the view they had, along with the waterfalls. We literally felt we were in a magical place. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Each cabin has it's own charm. Please ask Mr. Sharan on the list of wild animals that have visited the Fuschia estate. Also do all him to give a tour if his house which is very tastefully decorated with nature's artifacts. The USP of the place is the warmth and hospitality of the host, the view, waterfalls, wild animals that you get to see and the remarkable FOOD for sure. thanks to the staff (Baby and family) there. And thanks to Mr. Sharan Deep for making our stay so great. The next time I visit Ooty. I am gonna be there... :-)

  • I would write my review in two aspects, 1) Location/Ambiance: Just wonderful - nothing to say. A nice property inside tea-garden, woke up with smell of raw tea, can't be better than this. 2) Support/Hospitality: Our car broke-down few kms away from the destination and I got totally puzzled in the situation as I was completely new to the place. So I called Sharandeep and explained the situation. He quickly started finding a solution to help me out, his manager Mr. Shridharan came to the location with a mechanic to pick us up. They took care about the vehicle and delivered to me the next day. They just saved our short trip from getting ruined. Cannot expect anything better than this.

  • A great place , with excellent food ! Had a great time

    Rajiv2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fellow travelers Be assured that this is one of the most beautiful offbeat locations near Ooty to spend a weekend or more away from the chaos of the city! The homestay, hosted by Mr Sharan and managed by Mr Ishwar and his family is a perfect example of "digital detoxing"-despite the fact that you'll have network, but you really don't need it.. This place is for die hard nature enthusiasts, with a spirit to trek and spend a laid back vacation. Don't expect anything but nature's absolutely stunning marvels to surprise you day in and out. There's a trek leading down a stream. A fountain which was previously approachable via a trek through the tree garden is not part of some big corporate, for which Mr Sharan is continuously working to avoid encroachment of nature's miracle. Applaud his efforts to make this one of my very first and marvellous home stays! Do visit and thank these wonderful people for maintaining the place in all its grandeur. You'll not be disappointed for sure

  • Fuschia is a beautiful place in the peaceful mountains of Nilgiris. Added to the advantage is the most Amazing, Cool superhost Sharan. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, with lots of greenery around and a beautiful waterfall, this is your go- to place. Added to the advantage is Baby Akka's yummy meals(Both veg and non-veg). Being from the north, Still I loved it like anything. No complaints whatsoever. You will get a chance to witness the lush green tea plantations, Beautiful waterfall, a number of Muscular Bisons(Yes and they are dangerous too), Blackie and Brownie( cute pups ). The whole place has a number of cottages and all the structures are beautifully designed by the Superhost Sharan with the help of the local people. This place is a treat for nature lovers. You'll definitely be here again if you visit once.

  • We had an amazing experience staying as Fuscia. Sharan is an absolute legend, and Baby is an incredible cook. With communal meals, the place has a family vibe, set in the most idyllic location. Within minutes of being there we decided to change our plans to stay for longer. We went for a hike up the hill opposite, and were rewarded with an incredible view and the opportunity to see some wild bison. Would definitely recommend.

The palace along with cottage was then owned by Queen Vidhyawathi of Vijayanagara Empire. Near to Elk Hill Lord Murugan temple, this heritage cottage commands a splendid view of Lovedale Forest and race course.
  • We stayed at Kennedy's villa for 2 days. The villa is beautiful, just that the roads are bit narrow. Ramesh the care taker was there to help us with anything we required. He assisted us with lunch and breakfast. We had a great time with Bonfire and Barbeque. We would definitely come back and stay. You can relax and njoy here. Rooms are clean and well kept. There are enough blankets to keep u warm. Washrooms are clean and has sufficient hot water available 24/7. Definitely recommended with family and friends

  • If you like a rustic and quite place in Ooty; don't look any further. This is the place. There are no restaurants or shopping close by. However, Ramesh, the caretaker was ready to help anytime. We stayed for a week but Ramesh made our stay more pleasurable.

    Prasad2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • I and my family had a wonderful stay. Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Ramesh & Staffs are very humble an co-operative. However, there is two thing I would like to highlight to Mr. Kennedy 1- There is no mirror in any of the room. It’s only placed in washroom. 2- Out of 3 Room heaters 2 are not working properly, neither we can place it at a position that we can get the heat. Switches are right above the head of the bed placed, and thus you can not put the heater and can’t use it.

  • We really enjoyed the stay! 😘

  • This is THE place to go in Ooty if you really want to enjoy it's beauty. Wonderful Heritage Cottage, beautifully maintained with its original beauty and modern amenities, calm and peaceful location away from the the everyday noises, overlooking the race course and the beautiful valley, absolutely wonderful staff to make you feel very much at home. The host Mr Kennedy and the manager Mr Ramesh will make you their family. They made my visit so beautiful and memorable I shall visit this Cottage every time I come to Ooty, even if it is occupied I shall definitely visit my friends, Kennedy and Ramesh, very grateful to have acquainted them.🤗🙏

  • Nice place for a 2 families

    Vijaya2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The booking process was relatively quick and was confirmed in less than an hour. Though we arrived late like around 7pm, Mr. Kennedy & Mr. Antony both were there to receive us, which was really a personal touch! About the property, it had an amazing view, located like on the edge of a cliff & was speck and clean, well maintained, clean interiors & extra fleece blankets! A bon fire was nicely set-up and we weren't disturbed by any means all through that wee hours party. Mr. Antony helped us make our breakfast next morning which was truly generous of him. The property is in the heart of the city from where you can have a beautiful view of the lake, the race course & the glimmering city at night. Watch out for a nice collection of books kept by Mr. Kennedy to those avid book lovers!

    Balaji2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time at Mr. Kennedy’s cottage. The place was beautiful and surpassed all our expectations. Mr. Kennedy was lovely to speak with and Ramesh, the manager helped us with everything. Looking forward to visit again.

Fully furnished house with amenities for a comfortable stay

  • This is my second time at this place and as usual the hosts were very kind in making our stay comfortable. They even offered tips to.visit nearby places, warm hospitality and sparkling clean rooms made it the stay even more pleasant.

  • For someone like me who was looking for a stay far from the city chaos, this cottage was the best choice. It's not less than a home hosted by two elderly ladies. Place is so clean with a lovely garden and beautiful scenic view from the terrace. Best thing I liked is, it is almost equidistant from Coonor and Ooty, so we could cover both the places ,not completely though. Though Chris was not physically there to host us, he kept checking and made sure that we have a nice stay. P.S. I came with my brothers who stayed in home stay for the first time, though initially they were not so happy with my choice ( wanted to stay in a hotel) but later on to my relief it was a nice experience for them.

    Payal2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Chris's place in Ketti valley is perfectly sandwiched between Coonoor and Ooty. Most places worth a visit in Coonoor are a short drive away. The apartment is extremely spacious and comfortable. The porch that the Lawley cottage opens to has an incredible rose garden which was fantastic to wake up to every morning. Right from a variety of wonderful and reasonably priced home cooked meals (we had breakfast and dinner there everyday) to helping us shortlist places to visit, both of Chris's grandmums who have been running this place for years now, were extremely gracious and helpful. Chris himself too helped us a great deal with planning our travel, arranging for a vehicle and driver and so on. He was available whenever required. We checked in pretty late on the day we were scheduled to arrive but it was all hassle free. It was indeed home away from home. Coonoor is a must visit for the lush green beauty that surrounds you all across and this homestay is ideal to have a relaxed calming experience.

  • This is a very peaceful place to stay. You can enjoy the nature of Ooty from here. The hospitality provided by the Aunty, who takes care there is great. The food she provides also great and less cost. When I stayed there I preferred eating there, rather out. This is also safe place for family.

    Ramaraj2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place with serene view of ketti valley .The food is really good.

    Ankit2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and the wonderful ladies at the house took good care of us, right from keeping us informed regarding the location to giving us information about the local places to visit, they were very kind and helpful. Their home cooked food was tasty, the rooms are well maintained and has ample space for people visiting with family. All in all a great experience and I would stay there again.

    Senthur Balan2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Good place to stay with great hosts. Communication is prompt and the place is easy to reach ( 7-8 kms before ooty) . Both the aunties took good care of us. They provided homemade food at a very nominal price. They showed us around their farm and made us feel at home. Would recommend staying here if you are looking for a homely place with good people and food. If you are looking to stay in a place with a view / particular about amenities / complete privacy, look elsewhere.

  • Please do visit Coonoor it is nice and calm place than ooty. You can enjoy the toy train from ooty to Coonoor. One who wants to spend the relaxing holidays for them alpinia is better option.

    Sudeep2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Mr Amalraj was incredibly helpful, helping us with finding a driver and recommending the sights. The room was great but showing some signs of its age, as is natural in an old house. The breakfast was also amazing. Of course, the garden was incredibly beautiful. This house is a short walk from Sim's Park, so if you get lost tell your driver to come by that way, and not what Google tells you. Be patient with the water heater and you will be guaranteed plenty of hot water.

  • A beautiful Villa with antiques all around. Huge bedrooms with every possible amenity. The dogs are playful and add to the charm of the place. The housekeepers are very warm and welcoming and always there for help. For the cost it's a steal.

Beautiful old British Colonel's residence restored to perfection. Royston by Nianna is a blend of old world British aristocracy coupled with modern day amenities and comfort. If you are looking for the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the corporate world or are simply due a perfectly restoring holiday then Royston is the one. Located 70 kms from Coimbatore, the journey to Royston is an adventure in itself. We warmly welcome visitors from near and far - our pleasure is hosting.
Royston is a gorgeous old Colonial residence which once served as home to Colonel Rowcroft. Colonel Rowcroft was a British Army officer who served in India during the time of the First World War. As such Royston is abundant with history. The walls are clad with wartime memorabilia including old photos and hangings from the past 100 years. The main house comprises of 3 fabulous bedrooms (all with televisions) and the adjoining cottage has one bedroom. The main house sleeps 6 comfortably and it is suitable for all ages. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms which are large and well equipped, there is also a powder room. The cottage comes equipped with 2 bathrooms. The living room is where everyone comes together, with the warm fireplace and oversized couches - there isn't a more comfortable place on earth. The technology is up-to-date with cable TV and music system. The dining room comfortably seats 8 and comes fully equipped with multi-course crockery and cutlery. Upstairs plays host to a very relaxing space furnished with an old oak desk and library bookshelves. Reading chairs complete this perfect space. We provide umbrellas for each room to be used during the rainy season, so nothing stops you from exploring the beautiful surroundings. For in-house dining, a chef is available at a small fee.
Coonoor is an old hill station with tremendous history. It served as a rehabilitation retreat for the British soldiers during the war due to its temperate climate and extremely clean air. The town of Bedford which is in walking distance from Royston is a real melting pot. Fresh fruit markets, butchers, farmers markets, seafood merchants and many more traders line the central marketplace. You can find the freshest of food here with local fare to boast. Coonoor is a sightseer's paradise. Sims Park, Lambs Rock, Dolphin Nose and Highfield Tea Plantation all lie within a stone's throw from the house. The town plays home to every form of religion and from the hill where Royston is based you are able to see a Church, Mosque, Jain Temple, Gurudwara and a number of Hindu Temples. Within 20 minutes either side of Coonoor lies Ooty and Kotigiri each with their own charm. A little further afield is Nianna Tea Plantation, a 30 minute drive, another HOSPITALITYEXPERT property which we encourage you to visit. Coonoor is a famous hill station that is 17 km from Ooty in Tamil Nadu, India. It is probably the second most popular hill station in the Nilgiris. The hill station stands at a height of 1839 meters and is known for its great picnic spots and picturesque surroundings. Coonoor is also famous for tea gardens and tea factories. Coonoor provides the traveler with the panoramic view of the lush green Nilgiri hills, with its ravines, valleys, and waterfalls. Bird watching is a popular pastime in Coonoor, as the area boasts of a large variety of species like cormorants, pipits, thrushes, parakeets, skylarks, Nilgiri verditer, etc. Travelers can take a walk through the tea gardens. There are number of trekking and hiking trails around Coonoor. Travellers can enjoy the exhilarating and unique ride on the toy train that connects Coonoor with Mettupalayam (which Indian Rail spells Metupalaiyam) and Ooty. The trip provides some breathtaking views of the Nilgiri hills in all its natural glory. Though secondary in importance to Ooty, Coonoor offers a more secluded retreat, away from the crowds that throng Ooty. If a quiet, romantic holiday tucked away in the hills amidst fresh air and verdant Nature is what you are looking for, Coonoor is your best bet. We provide umbrellas for each room to be used during the rainy season, so nothing stops you from exploring the beautiful surroundings.
  • It was a great stay and would highly recommend it. It's in the heart of the town but still very peaceful. Also very neat and clean.

  • This house looks extremely beautiful. My first stay in colonial house. The valley view from first floor is very stunning and you get breath taking sun set in the evening. I stayed with family including infant and everyone enjoyed the stay and felt more comfortable. Cook akka and care taker anna was very helpful. They prepare delicious hot food in our convenient timing. Joseph Frankel uncle is friendly and he suggested many local tips. I will sure come back and i suggest this house for the pleasant family stay.

  • If you are planning to visit Coonoor, you HAVE to stay at this place. It is as beautiful as it looks. The view from this place is beyond beautiful. The best part was the hospitality. The hosts are great to talk to and the cook is beyond amazing. You must enjoy all your meals in the house. Ask for recommendations from the chef. And he uses fresh ingredients. He even set up a barbecue pit for us. The compound has many fruit trees like avocado, sweet lime, different types of guavas, peaches, etc. I am a die hard nature lover and it’s a heaven for people like me.

  • We stayed at this beautiful cozy villa for 3 nights and we had a pleasant experience and would definitely visit again. Super hosts Usha and Joseph Frankel had it all arranged before we arrived. Though we confirmed about the dinner a little late, the staff made sure to have all the items requested were ready on time for dinner. The staff is very helpful and catered to our needs and cooked some delicious food. I also appreciate the hygiene maintained around here. We would love to visit this beautiful property again to experience the warmth and care the hosts and staff provided. You guys are indeed hospitality experts!! Thanks again.

  • The stay was good and cosy, a 100+ years house and lovely hosts. We were extremely well taken care for by the Caretaker and his wife who not only helped us through the trip but fed us some excellent food on demand. Only note to the Owners and to all who read this comment - there is no professional chef at the place,it is the Caretaker and his wife who cook and they do a good job at it, lovely couple - God bless them. Overall a lovely stay and worth returning to .Mr and Mrs. Frankel gave us excellent care and guidence and the place was clean, spick and span (Love the house and thank Mr and Mrs Frankel and the caretaker and his wife for making it a home for us)

LOCATED: 5 minutes walk from the BOTANICAL GARDEN !!! Family Suite with 2 connected bedrooms, & 2 Double Cots Similar to a high-end-luxury heritage property, (offered at a price even less than a low-budget room, by a Non-profit organisation). CENTRAL LOCATION - so it is safe, easy to find local transport, tourist-spots near. FOOD & ROOM SERVICE IS AVAILABLE - Also, choice of restaurants located just across the road. Just 500 meters from MAIN COMMERCIAL ROAD (for Shopping & Dining out). CAR PARK.
This is a big posh Luxury family Suite with two interconnected rooms and two Double Cots (one Double cot in each room). It is similar to a high-end-luxury heritage property, but is offered at a price even less than a low-budget room. Being a Non-profit charitable organisation, we offer the lowest budget-pricing possible, in a prime location within the heart of Ooty. It is appropriately designed for a family of 4 to 5 members with the convenience of an adjoining separate Room for children or other members of the family / friends (entrance to the second room is from the first room) - but it spacious enough to comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests in all with 2 Extra Cots (these are Portable Cots, not just beds)!. Yes, it can even be used like a Dormitory - after all its tariff is just as low as that of a cheap dormitory - May be then, we can call it a luxury Dormitory Suite! The ambience here is that of an old heritage property, unlike the commonplace modern day trendy buildings. Holiday makers throng to the hills of Ooty to leave behind their stressed up life in the cities; and the last thing they want to see is another stereo-type modern space to stay in. This heritage super suite is totally (solid) wood-panelled, exuding a truly Victorian ambiance. It has a Sofa-lounge section, 2 Dining Table sections, Writing table, 2 Dressing Tables, a TV, and a Toilet. Maximum number of guests permitted - 6 Guests Charge for each extra guest from the 3rd Guest onwards (up to 2 Guests - No extra charge) - Rs.500 per extra guest. SO WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES? 1. SUPER LOW PRICING: High-end luxury heritage properties charge exorbitantly from 5 times to 15 times our tariff - (you can check this out yourself if you feel this is an exaggeration). 2. LOCATION: Just about 250 meters radius from the Botanical Garden Main Gate, and about 500 meters from Main Commercial Road of Ooty. So (a). It is safe; (b). You can just take a short walk up to Commercial Road for shopping and dining out; (c). You have a choice of transport at your door step; (d). If you prefer instead to chill-out, just take a leisurely walk in to the Botanical Garden; and (e). It is easier to access most of the major tourist spots. 3. CATERING: Room-service is available. In addition to this, there are also a choice of restaurants catering to all budgets, located on the opposite side of the compound just across the road. 4. FOR NATURE LOVERS: 55 Acres of Lush Green superb landscape awaits you with in the Botanical Garden. With hundreds of selections of flowers and trees, it is a must-see for all. Even otherwise, just take a stroll in to the garden any time you feel like it; after all, it is just round the corner. 5. ROUND THE CLOCK HOT WATER: Unlike other budget properties, we provide 24 Hour Hot water service with Geysers in all bathrooms. (So, no morning/evening timings for Hot water, and no water-rationing). 6. CAR PARK: Ample car parking is available within the compound and it is free of charge. Further, the Gates are closed and locked in the night for safety. 7. LOCAL TAXI SERVICE AND TRAVEL ARRAGEMENTS: We do arrange local taxi services and sight-seeing tours both in Taxis and Mini-busses. We connect the guest directly with the relevant service-provider, and we never act as (commercial) commission-agents in between the customer and service-provider. 8. PERSONALISED SERVCE: You can count on a non-commercial attitude and personalised service from us - what else would you expect from a Non-profit organisation? A REQUEST: Our policy has always been to offer the lowest possible budget pricing. Although, most of our guests have felt that the interiors of our rooms do match those of high-end luxury heritage properties, kindly do recognize our limitations therein considering our exceptionally low tariffs (resulting in thin profit margins). Hence, it is earnestly requested that you kindly do limit your expectations from our property and services, only up to a level foreseeable from just a budget property service. We do prefer not to compare our services to that of high-end luxury properties that charge exorbitantly from 5 times to 15 times our tariffs. But, in due course, it will be our endeavour to try and match, or perhaps even exceed their standards of service, while keeping our same low-budget pricing intact.
LOCATED in the prime heart of Ooty in the neighbourhood of the Botanical Garden, and yet very near the Main Commercial Road. It is just a five minute walk to the Botanical Garden, 55 acres of spectacular landscaped gardens featuring rare trees, flowers, a fern house and an Italian-style garden. At the same time, it is also just 500 meters from Charring Cross, and the Main Commercial Road of Ooty. So you have a beautiful neighbourhood garden close to nature and yet centrally located in the heart of the town.
  • Very unique AirBnb. A non-profit attached to a Temple. Spacious rooms, attentive host and a great value right in the heart of Ooty.

  • Udhai who takes care of the guests was very helpful. He even arranged for home cooked food. I had a great time.

  • This place is very quiet and has breathtaking views. The caretaker was always available for any help and kept the place very neat. There is hot water always, there was a full kitchen with a fridge to cater all your needs.

  • The most cherished moments from my trip to Ooty were of the time i spent on this property. From admiring the breathtaking views from the balcony while having handpicked farm fresh strawberries from a strawberry farm nearby to enjoying the bonfire on a cold breezy night with light music and strawberry wine (which i also got from strawberry farm), this home stay exceeded my expectations. As if all this was not enough, you can also see sunrise from your balcony. The house was clean, beautiful and well equipped. Our caretaker, Uday was polite and helpful, he made our stay more memorable by making everything readily available.

    Nupur2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place. A treat for the soul. A little away from main city in ooty but if you have your own vehicle, this is heaven. I had gone with senior citizens. Had an awesome time there but we had our own vehicle. A must try place.

    Shilpy2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The stay was really nice. The view was breathtaking. It was really cold in the night. Udhay (caretaker) is really nice and humble. He set us up with the bornfire at night and also made sure that we don't face any issues... overall the stay was. good.

    Prashant2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The host was super-welcoming and the view was simply breath-taking. If you want to be away from the mad rush of city life, then this offers the perfect amount of solitude without much outside connectivity. This place is ideal for someone who wants to spend the entire day at the homestay with enough possibilities for exhibiting his/her culinary skills !!!!

    Shiyam2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • It's a fantabulous stay, the place is outside the city but there is no difficulty to reach the location. The camp fire was worth it. The view was amazing. Caretaker Uday was very friendly and helpful.

    Aadhav2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Place is little far from Ooty, takes half an hour to reach there but it's all worth it when you get to see the amazing view of sunrise from the balcony. Caretaker was really nice and helpful. It's gets misty during the evening. Value for money.

  • Good place, amazing Location, very close to OOTY bus stand, has a good view of the OOTY LAKE. Feels like a home more than a hotel. Only issue is the HOT WATER, has timings morning 7:30- 9:00am only.

    Mithun2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay at reflections. The staff is courteous and prompt. The rooms are clean and the lake view is really nice. There is a nice common area outside the rooms, a balcony of sorts, with beanbags etc. The location is perfect; close enough to the bus stop to be accessible, but still extremely peaceful. Would recommend everyone to try the lazy mongoose cafe as well, right next to reflections.

  • Location wise its very near from the bus stand or railway station. All the stuffs are very friendly and helpful. The host is very friendly and always ready for help. But its like a guest house not a homestay. So, if you are looking for a proper home stay then it may not be your option.

  • It was an awesome stay in Reflection Guest House. Prabhu is really a nice host. Room was better than I have expected in this price. Food was also nice homemade food in reasonable rate. Prabhu can arrange taxi services as well for local sightseeing. This property is highly recommended for bagpackers, families and couples.

This is a remote cozy cottage about 6km away from Kotagiri town. There are two private bedrooms with attached bathrooms available for rent on the first floor. Nearby attractions include a waterfall, a small dam and trekking trail. Meals can be arranged on prior notification – You may also feel free to use the shared kitchen and laundry. The property is fenced off so you can safely enjoy the occasional sighting of bison, bear, leopards, rabbits, porcupine, sambar deer and other native wildlife.
Wake up to the sound of sparrows and fresh aroma from the surrounding tea estates. A shared wifi is available but speed is poor as the surrounding hills block the signals. We have a landline for free national calls. As this is a shared property we prefer only families as guests. Alcohol is permitted but only on the first floor.

  • Greendale is the destination for a calm, relaxing, beautiful and an ideal spot for a vacation at Kothagiri. It's a home away from home. Mrs. Gerry is one of the best hosts I have ever come across. She poured in so much love and took care of us , not to forget the piping hot breakfasts and coffees she served us which were amazing. This place is paradise for nature lovers. Waiting for the next vacation back to Greendale.

  • To all the people who are trying to zero in on a perfect stay. You don’t need to look any further. Green dale is a perfect place to visit if you are looking to stay away from a crowded place. The house is situated in the midst of nature and is really peaceful and serene. Aunty is a wonderful host. She is really approachable and helpful apart from being a very good cook. She makes sure that freshly prepared food is served to you. The service offered was worth more than what I paid. I am definitely going to come back to this place.

  • Our stay with Vismay (Two Seas Residence) was so good. This place is set up in a quiet place though it's close to many of the city attractions. The house is tidy and Mr. Gowda is the best host I would say. He guided us where and what time to visit and arranged for a breakfast, which is tasty. We extended our stay as we felt home and Mr. Rajadurai was so polite, too. It's certainly worth it and we would love to visit again. Thanks to both Rajadurai and Gowda for making our stay so memorable. 👍

  • Nice and comfy stay at this place. Very much close to botanical garden (a prominent attraction of Ooty). But the bonfire was not included in the package and is strictly allowed b/w 6-10 pm.

    Gautam2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 3 nights at this place. The facility is superb, a two floor apartment with two bed rooms on the first floor, two toilets (one attached to a bedroom), one balcony and the ground floor has a large living room with attached open kitchen and also a fireplace. The kitchen has a gas stove, a small fridge, a microwave and plates and cutleries. The staff are very polite and helpful. The location is very good, very close to the botanical garden and can be easily accessed. There is enough parking space to park your car, which is often a bit tricky in Ooty. I would definitely recommend this for Ooty vacation.

    Indranil2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • We selected this place bcos the review mentioned that it was very clean. We found it to be really nice and clean. The caretaker's maintain the place very well. Also very helpful staff. We asked them to arrange for pickup from bus-stop at early morning 5:30 and they shared the Driver contact details and vehicle was waiting when we reached. So a really nice experience for checking in. The caretaker also offered to arrange a vehicle for site seeing, so we took it for one day. The Driver was well mannered and informed. Next day, we checked the prices at the taxi stand and found we were charged the same price as the listed rate. So good vehicle, good driver and good price (no overcharging, which we were expecting). The place is around 1.5 km from the main market and walking distance from the botanical garden, in a quite lane off the main road. Rickshaws are available on the main road. In 2-BHK, they have two options, 1. like a rowhouse with bed rooms on the first floor and dining on ground and 2. like a flat with the bedrooms and dining on same floor. So choose as per your requirement. We didn't know this at time of booking. Also, we had breakfast with them everyday and they gave us good homemade south-Indian breakfast like idli, dosa and wada. Ooty being in South India, we did not try to order North Indian breakfast, so no chance of dis-appointment :-) We went March end/April start and expected it to be pleasantly cool. However, it was very cold. For first time visitors to Ooty, pack some winter clothes. We had to buy jackets and shawls bcos the weather was so cold.

Set up by a British couple, Smyrna Guest House is a refurbished colonial property set on a quiet hilltop, half a mile from the Ooty bus & train stations. A six acre campus, beautiful garden and playground. The Honeymoon Suite is a very romantic room, with a comfy couch in front of the fireplace, a luxurious bed, a spacious bathroom with a bathtub and a kitchenette area. One of 6 rooms in a 180 year old house. A complimentary breakfast is provided.
People come to us for a respite from the heat and noise of the plains, for cosy fires, clean air and clear starlit skies. A heritage of colonial architecture and well-established gardens offer a taste of luxury, tranquility and relaxation that nourishes the soul. Our hill top was originally bought from the Toda tribe by a bishop, who built the house you'll be staying in around 200 years ago. It is surrounded by farmland and tea fields, you can walk down to the railway track and along it to Lovedale where a Toda temple can still be seen, as well as bison, deer and Malabar Giant Squirrels. Otherwise you could walk up the way for breathtaking views of Ooty town and the race course. Failing that you could take a blanket out onto the lawn and have a nap underneath the spreading chestnut tree. Just don't let the sheep nibble your toes if they are out! All proceeds from the guest house will be given to Smyrna Fellowship Trust, a registered charity which serves the poor of the Nilgiris from the same campus. There is a day care centre for those with disability and a home for the abandoned elderly also situated on the campus. We arrange the educational sponsorship of over 500 children from poor communities and various house-building and welfare projects in the area. If you'd like to know more about our work then please ask. We can arrange to show you around and give you a chance to interact with some of our extended community.
Nice walks are available, Fern Hill palace, the 'toy train' track, the forest, otherwise town is a walkable distance away, although you may want to get a rickshaw back up the hill!
  • Smyrna home stay was one of the most beautiful and comfortable places I’ve stayed in. The room was very neat and cosy, the food was delicious although it would be great to have a few more eating options at the cafe. However, we were given information of alternate restaurant options that deliver at the location. The staff is sweet and helpful, the garden provides a lot of space to laze around and relax under the trees. The description on the app needs to be updated as it stated that there are sheep on location, which wasn’t true. The geyser also doesn’t provide constant hot water which was a bit of an issue for us as it was quite cold when we visited. Apart from this, Smyrna Guest house was a beautiful stay and we would love to visit again :)

  • Amazing place with a different experience.

    mansi2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures don’t do justice to this place, it is much more beautiful in reality. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. The garden outside is well maintained and would recommend guests to utilise it for a refreshing morning walk. Visitors can carry some food items since most of the restaurants close by 9 PM. Special mention to Vinola & Mr. Peace who were extremely warm, and helpful during our stay.

    Aditi2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Good things :- • The property owners have thought about the minutest of details and made apt provisions to bring the traveller immense customer delight. • The caretaker, Ms. Vinola is super helpful and supportive. • The vibe around the property is very friendly and homely. • Wood for the fireplace in the room is chargeable beyond one basket, unlike the usual trend. • Excellent Internet signals. Things that can be improved :- • Lack of ventilation in the room makes it very difficult for amateurs to direct the smoke out at night from the fireplace. • For the amount paid, the room lacks a private balcony to enjoy the beautiful Ooty scenery and weather. • Do not be fooled by the images in the listing. The room looks very different. Not that it looks different in a bad way, but it does look different.

    Shubham2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time to Ooty and boy was it enthralling! Smyrna homestays is par excellence. The location, the morning breakfast, the amenities and the overall experience is once in a lifetime. You have to be there to experience it yourself. Please go and stay here, you will not come close to any form of regret.

    Aditya2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the two days spent at the Smyrna home. Cozy and cut away from the bustling town area - it is quite perfect. The staff is cordial and welcoming. I recommend this place to anyone planning a getaway trip to Ooty for some peace and serenity.

  • Well maintained and clean place. The calm and serene atmosphere of the place refreshes your mind 💯

    Shabir2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Best place to experience British Era. Beautiful open lawn with Flora & Fauna and old stone & wood building standing behind. Best thing we liked about stay was antique interior ( detailing of interior is just beautiful to experience).

LOCATED: 5 minutes walk from the BOTANICAL GARDEN ! Family Suite with 2 connected bedrooms, & 2 Double Cots Similar to a high-end-luxury heritage property, (but offered at a price even less than a low-budget room, by a Non-profit organisation) CENTRAL LOCATION - so it is safe, easy to find local transport, tourist-spots near FOOD & ROOM SERVICE IS AVAILABLE - Also, choice of restaurants located just across the road.
It has a Sofa-lounge section, a Dining Table section, Writing table, Dressing Table, a TV, and a Toilet.

Host was unavailable during check in but there no difficulties to communicate as there will be a guy (forgot the name) to help.
