Places to stay in Newry

Places to stay in Newry
We offer a self-contained sleeping and living area located within the Ring of Gullion. The Loft is a cosy hideaway and a great base from which to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with beautiful views over the City of Newry and the Mourne mountains.
The Flagstaff Loft is a relaxing and quiet self-contained space attached to a family home but has its own independent entrance ensuring your privacy. Overlooking the City of Newry with wonderful views of the Mourne mountains, upstairs in the Loft consists of a comfortable double bed (you'll get a good night's sleep after your travels & wake up feeling rested and refreshed) and living area where you can relax, read a book or plan your next day adventures. All towels and bed linen are provided. The Loft also has a hairdryer, iron & ironing board for your use. Downstairs you have a small modern bathroom with electric shower, as well as a kitchenette area. The kitchenette is equipped with a kettle, toaster, fridge, crockery, cutlery and glasses. A Nutri-bullet is also available on request. Complimentary tea and coffee is provided. * Please note there is no hot plate or other oven. You will also have access to a beautiful outdoor seating area, and an outside open fire, where you can relax in Adirondack chairs with a nice drink!
Halfway between Belfast and Dublin, the Flagstaff Loft is located in the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a 5-minute drive from Newry City and is the perfect base from which to explore the local area including Slieve Gullion (offering views as far away as Antrim, Dublin Bay and Wicklow on a clear day), the Flagstaff viewpoint, the Cooley Peninsula and the picturesque village of Carlingford. It is also the ideal place to stay while travelling between Ireland's two main cities and is only a 1-hour drive from both Dublin and Belfast International Airports. The area has a number of great restaurants and pubs with regular traditional music sessions. At the summit of Slieve Gullion you will find the highest surviving passage grave in Ireland and for those interested in the rich history of South Armagh and the surrounding area, Peter can provide recommendations for local places of interest including dolmens, ancient standing stones and burial tombs, as well as information on our more recent history.
  • We found Peter's loft overlooking Newry to be very cosy and incredibly relaxing after a long day of driving. In the morning Peter kindly cooked us a great breakfast while sharing some personal anecdotes and local history. He then took us on a mini tour of the area, pointing out some interesting local landmarks and great views over Newry. Overall, it's easy to see why Peter is consistently rated as such as a fantastic host. Very easy recommendation to be sure.

  • Peter is a great guy and wonderful host! We had a cosy stay at the flagstaff lost followed by a delicious breakfast. Peter filled us in on lots to do locally and was extremely interesting to chat with. We will be back!

  • We couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome, or greater hospitality, from Peter during our time at the Flagstaff Loft. We stayed for two nights whilst attending a wedding in the area; Peter made us a lovely breakfast both mornings, and even gave us a lift to the wedding reception! The Loft itself was just what we needed - clean, comfortable and well equipped, with great views over Newry. I would definitely recommend this place!

  • Our first time using Airbnb so weren’t sure what to expect, need not have worried as Peter was an outstanding host who absolutely went above and beyond expectation. Beautiful home which is immaculately clean and delicious breakfast. Extra touches were amazing and very much enjoyed. Will never forget our stay and will definitely be back in the future, we have gained a friend. Do not hesitate to book!

This is a self contained loft space with its own entrance, while still being part of our home. It has its own ensuite shower room, a small kitchen/dining area with fridge, microwave, toaster, small hot-plate, kettle & sink. It also has a settee & satellite TV. There is also access to our WiFi Internet.
We are situated at the base of the Mourne Mountains, looking out onto the Irish Sea. We ARE literally "Where the Mountains of Mournes sweep to the sea" as the words of the old song say!! From our home, you have direct access to walking in the Mournes, walking up through our fields and onto the Quarry Track. And a very short distance, across the road, you have access to the National Trust coastal path, to enjoy the rugged, stoney coast line.

  • What a fantastic Airbnb place. From the start, Pauline was quick to respond, even when she was on holiday herself. Directions to the place were easy to follow. The place itself is cosy and welcoming, great touches such as bread and eggs were really appreciated. And I was even given a lift into Newry on my final day. The location is fantastic for exploring the surrounding areas, which I did on foot. I’d highly recommend this place and I already plan to return some time. Thank you!

  • This is a great location for visiting Northern Ireland. Anthony had thoughtfully provided some area's where you can eat out and places to visit. The breakfast basket was a nice addition with some local items. We were welcomed on arrival and given an introduction to the Loft and it's amenities, we also had a text later to check everything was ok. I would not hesitate to recommend this listing to anyone wanting a peaceful location but convenient for visiting Northern Ireland. A big thank you also to Sammy for making us so welcome everyday, such a friendly dog.
