Parks and nature in Munich

Top nature recommendations from locals

Park
“One of the biggest city parcs. Its most famous parts are in the south, near Prinzregentenstr.: surfing wave, nudist area and beergarten at Chinesischer Turm. Besides of that I would recommend to visit the natural, more calm and less touristic northern part (Stauwehr Oberföhring, St. Emmeramsmühle, Aumeister beergarten and Amphitheater) ”

Moving Target
“A great place with various activities to do. Walking in the park, renting a boat and make a trip on the lake, in summer there are open air cinemas. You can go up the television tower and have a view over the whole city. There are concerns in the Olympia station. A Monument for the attacks on the Olympia game Players in the 70´s. ”

Surf Spot
“EISBACHWELLE | ENGLISCHEN GARTEN | MUNICH | WWW.EISBACHWELLE.DE One of my favorite places in Munich when I want to escape the city for a few hours or less is the English Garden. You are in the middle of the city but you’re being surrounded by so much nature. And one of the places I visit the most is the Eisbachwelle. Even if it is just for a sneak peak when I’m ridding my bike to the city center. In the middle of Munich: surfing! No matter if it’s summer or winter, morning or evening, rain or sunshine, you will always find a few surfers ridding the cool waves. In the last couple of years there are also some female surfers that I absolutely admire. If you’re not really the surfer type, this place is still perfect for a cool down on a hot summer day and it’s absolutely amazing. And the unwritten rules between the swimmers and the surfers make them coexist just perfect. If you don’t happen to wear a bathing suit you can still cool down by seating on the side with your feet in the water and an ice cream in your hand, just watching the brave ones that trusted themselves into the cool but great water!”

Park
“At the top of a gentle hill in the Englischer Garten stands the heavily photographed Monopteros (1838), a small Greek temple built by 19th-century star architect, Leo von Klenze. From here you can admire the view of the Munich skyline, which is particularly attractive at sunset.”
