  • Jim and Sue are quick with replies and make you feel very at home. Very comfy space that puts you right with nature. We enjoyed seeing Savanna and all its touches, including food reccomendations made by Jim. The view is amazing! We really enjoyed this home and plan to be back!

  • Cozy and comfortable home - perfect get away from the every day norm. Mother Nature hit us with 5 inches of snow followed by an ice storm but we still enjoyed our peaceful stay and were able to get out and see Savanna and meet some locals. Hope to visit again when it’s warmer. Wonderful host - felt right at home.

  • This was such a nice place to stay! We were able to have coffee on the screened in porch in the morning, the bed was super comfortable and the house was so clean. It was only a few miles to wonderful hiking and a short drive to some great places to visit. My boyfriend had never stayed at an AirBNB before and he said this stay converted him from a hotel only person. Jim was an outstanding host who provided fantastic recommendations.

    Carmen2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We originally wanted to stay in Galena, but this place is a hidden GEM and you couldn’t ask for a better host! He was responsive, helpful, and clearly takes very good care of the house. Before our arrival, he had lights and heat turned on so the second we walked in we felt welcomed. The house feels secluded, on top of a hill overlooking the river. Great place to stay for a nice relaxing weekend. Close to a beautiful biking/walking trail through the palisades, a few minute drive to the state park, and only about 40 mins to Galena. We were surprised how great the restaurants were downtown. We wished we could have stayed longer!

    Sara2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jim's place was a cute private little house. Since it was raining on our visit, the screened porch was a great asset. Very comfortable stay with everything you'll need. Easy check in and great communication.

    Ann2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s home is lovely—clean, comfortable, and just what we needed for our weekend get-away. He’s thought through what travelers need, and made sure it’s all there for his guests. And a king-sized bed—what heaven in airbnb land! The view is lovely, the amenities well-considered. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • This house is in a small quiet town just up the hill from the start of the Great River Bike Trail. Galena to the north, and Fulton to the south are both worth visiting. There is one private bedroom with a large bed and there is a futon in the living room. We found it cosy and comfortable.

  • Very clean, very private, and very peaceful. Everything you need to stay in for the whole weekend and relax, but with plenty of sightseeing to do on an afternoon drive. Absolutely amazing hosts. Bill filled us on on all the history of the area and the cabin and it was incredible. We will be back for sure.

  • We rented this for a board game retreat with family and found it to be a great space for it. Quaint and cozy!

  • This cabin was so much more than we expected. Bill and Rhonda definitely know how to make you feel at home and are amazing hosts. Thanks for the tour and all of the history that comes with the cabin bill!

  • I really enjoyed staying here. Beautiful location. Great house with lots of old farm house charm, including great history. Very clean and comfortable. Would stay here again.

    Jamie2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Bill was fantastic. He gave us a great deal on photos (very unexpected), offered to build us fires outside for us (even when it was crazy cold), and to top it all off he brushed the snow off our vehicle before we got up and it had snowed the night prior. Great place, lots of fun! If it was closer we would look into buying the place.

    Shane2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This rustic getaway is clean, quirky, quiet and comfortable. Bill and Rhonda are great hosts and had helpful and quick communication. They were flexible in the check. This is a great location if you want a romantic getaway. Highly recommend it.

The Driftless Muse retreat house, Mount Carroll Illinois, is in the beautiful Driftless Region of Northwest Illinois. Featuring a small art studio and designated writing space, it is a perfect place to explore nature, make art, write or just plain relax. Two blocks from the quaint center of town, where you will find a latte, great food, antiques, local music, a famous haunted house, a massage, and brick streets. It is a 10 minute drive to the Mississippi River.
The Driftless Muse was built in 1868 and was home to miners, some of the first settlers to Mount Carroll. The house was added onto several times and only know for sure in 1907 because there were newspapers from 1907 in the walls. The house was recently rehabbed 2016. The owners kept what they could that was original and used a lot of repurposed materials. They are an artist, and a writer who created a space that they feel supports creativity, peace, family and rejuvenation. Due to the age of the house, the stairs are very steep. The entire town is very hilly. To get to the 1/2 acre yard one needs to climb down a hill. This may pose some difficulty for some people. The house is kept chemical free. No chemicals are used in the cleaning of the house. No candles, air fresheners, no chemical bug killer or febreze like products are allowed to be used in the house. The water is filtered through a whole house filter and then again under the sink two filters take out chemicals and fluoride from the drinking water. There is a massage therapist in town, her office is within walking distance, there is trusted child care available. If you need either, please let me know.
    Quiet residential neighborhood.
  • This is the second time that we have stayed at this home, and each time has been wonderful. The house is centrally located, beautiful and clean. The hosts are attentive and kind. Both times that I have left, I was sad to go. If you’re visiting Mt. Carroll, stay in this lovely Airbnb.

  • Wendy's place felt very restorative and restful, and all the beautiful colors and art around the house make you feel inspired to do be creative, or to just come away from the busy stressful world. My friend and I loved the front porch swing and the cozy chairs in the living room. Also, the claw foot tub upstairs was a singular luxury, with eveything you need! This property is very close to some great outdoor fun as well, great overlooks at the MIssissippi Palisades Park!

Just 2 mi. from downtown Savanna & the Mississippi River lies the rustic "guesthouse" called The Outback Inn. COVERED PARKING for cars/ small boats, LOCKED indoor parking for MOTORCYCLES. RV HOOK UPS, WiFi, wood burning stove, large bonfire pit, a 10' X 10' covered DOG KENNEL w/ X-lg igloo dog house ( no animals inside residence). There's hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, the 400+ mi bike path, or just relaxing on the porch swing. MESSAGE US FIRST IF YOU WANT TO BRING MORE THAN 3 GUESTS
It's country living & generally a quiet & relaxing neighborhood. The birds sing a symphony in the mornings & the owls talk back & forth to each other after dark. You might hear the coyotes howl at night. We offer a Wilson signal booster that you can place your phone on to improve your phone reception if your carrier service is weak in this area. There is a sofa bed plus a fold down futon. The space is great for 3 adults or 2 adults/2 young children or 4 adults if pre-arranged with us. There is a $25 fee for each guest over the initial 2 guests.
We are outside the city limits. There's a few friendly neighbors on the easement & across the pasture. It's generally quiet & peaceful. The Mississippi Palisades State Park is 2 mi north of us. An addition was erected on the home behind The Outback Inn last summer. It's fairly close but we never see the neighbors unless he is mowing. They are wonderful, quiet people.
  • Sue's place was wonderful. Everything was very clean,, convenient, and well thought out. There's a really nice wood-burning stove in the living room, which is a great substitute for a TV, and the yard has a nice fire pit. The entire place has many personalized touches which gives off a really nice homey feeling. It's also very quiet, gets very dark at night, and the stars in that area are nothing to scoff at. Book this place asap!

    Mikhail2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the Outback Inn! Sue is an excellent host and is very responsive. The house is very clean with everything you need being provided. Experience the farm life at Heritage Hollow. Thirty acres of woods, prairie, and pastures surround the recently updated 1860s farmhouse. Interact with resident horses, sheep, rabbits, chickens and abundant nature. Private setting for your small group. Owner onsite in for care, safety, and enhanced exposure with the animals; resides in separate area of farmhouse with private entrance. Children welcome, as well as pets (additional pet fee applies). 35 minutes from Galena Illinois.
Recently renovated, the farmhouse incorporates century-old barn beams and quirky original doors which mix seamlessly with granite counter tops, farm sink, and luxurious bedding. The thirty acre working hobby farm provides interactive, guest-friendly experiences for visitors, such as collecting eggs, petting the animals, "helping" with chores, and learning about farm functions. Aptly named, the farm hosts several heritage breeds; endangered strains of farm stock that have been eliminated from commercial farming markets. Horses, bunnies, chickens, Leicester Longwool sheep, and resident Great Pyrenees farm dog Scout round out the farmyard offerings. Wild birds, deer, and other native wildlife abound.
    Quiet. Very Quiet.
  • Surprised my wife for her birthday to a weekend at Heritage Hollow. It was a pretty magical experience. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the adorable Scout and all the other farm animals. The property is beautiful - we went on a couple walks down the trail which was quite serene. The farmhouse was clean and decorated nicely - felt very cozy. Aby was the best hostess - not only helpful and communicative, but also enjoyable to talk to and learn from! It’s been a couple days since we left Heritage Hollow, and my wife still looks at pictures and videos of all the animals; she personally loved learning about and spending time with the sheep and horses. We’ll definitely be back and hopefully convince one of the chickens to let us hold them next time🙂

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This farm experience is amazing. Aby is a spectacular host and the farm animals do not disappoint! We loved spending New Year's on the farm, hanging out with the animals (even got some fresh eggs for breakfast!) and just lounging in the very comfortable farm house. We brought our dog who lived his dream vacation running around the property and hanging out with Scout, the farm dog. Aby was generous with her time and hospitality. I would highly recommend Heritage Hollow for an easy, relaxing get-away for the entire family!

    Stephani2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Aby's farm is a perfect getaway if you are looking for tranquil space and a beautiful place to play with the animals and relax!

  • Breathtaking views, exhilarating pastoral hikes, and a barnyard full of friendly, curious animals -- plus a cozy farmhouse and a wonderful hostess who has stocked it with everything you might need. The perfect rural escape, just two hours west of Chicago. Don't miss it!

    Lindsay2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Heritage Hollow was everything we could have imagined and so much more! Love is in every detail, from the farm fresh eggs ready in the fridge to how Aby told us stories and facts about each of her animals. The house was the cleanest space I’ve ever stayed in and well equipped to boot. We had everything we needed to cook our own meals. In fact, I can’t really think of a single detail unaccounted for. We can’t wait to come back when the lambs are born in the spring and visit with favorite farm hand Scout. I am shouting Aby’s praise from the rooftops and have already started talking to friends about a group return trip. It is so evident that Aby has crafted her dream and enjoys sharing it with all of her guests. Miss you Funky Foot!

  • Do not pass up this experience! My family and I spent a lovely Thanksgiving at Aby’s little slice of heaven. Clean, spacious, peaceful, updated, thoughtful, comfortable, serene...I could go on and on! Aby was a pleasure to connect with, her farm was a delight and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to escape the bustle of day to day life to spend quality time together as a family. We hope to go back again and again!

    Katherine2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Aby is an exceptional host. The house was perfectly clean and the farm animals were a lot of fun to visit. Everything was just wonderful.

  • We can't say enough about our stay at Heritage Hollow. Just fabulous. The house was very clean and nicely decorated. The property was amazing and the farm animals (sheep, horses, chickens, cats, rabbits, and Scout) added a significant element of interest. Aby was an amazing host - passionate and knowledgeable about the animals and the local environment and very responsive to any questions that we had. Highly recommend. We'll definitely be back!

This home is steps to the Mississippi River, park your boat on the beach. Room for an air mattress. Excellent fishing off the property. Breath taking views, a bit of Heaven. The bike trail is one-half block away plus Ice fishing in Spring Lake, Chestnut Mountain has a zip line, alpine slide, downhill . Boat launch 1 mile, restaurant is walk able distance. Golf 4 miles, Savanna 8 mi, Thomson 4 mi, Fulton 8 mi, Clinton IA 10 miles. Both interior and exterior multiple steps into the home.
The space is an open floor plan. It was once an earth home with a mowed roof. As a result, you feel like you are directly on the river just looking out the window. The entire front of the home is floor to ceiling glass (with blinds). You enter through the garage.
The neighborhood is very friendly. Ask any neighbor for directions or suggestions for dinner, fishing or otherwise. You will have privacy. The Mississippi Pool 13 is a wildlife refuge. It is easily located on map as the widest point shore to shore, 5 miles. Take a trip to a lock and dam to witness lock traffic and bird watch. The first weekend of January is Eagle watch weekend with lots of activities outside. Anytime the back waters freeze you will see Eagles from the home and as many as hundreds at the lock and dam. Of course, ice fishing is prime. There are local guide books in the home.
  • Great place with awesome views, very friendly owner. Good value for the money, would definitely stay again.

  • Great place and host. Very clean and convenient, and the wall of windows looking on to the river was beautiful.

  • Great place to relax and watch wildlife. The river is literally right out the front door.

    Korey2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is comfy and quiet. We enjoyed watching the eagles and relaxing. It was a quiet get-away.

    Michele2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great view of the river from the living space of the home. We had an eagle perch in the big tree not 30 feet from us one morning, and spotted another feeding on river ice not far away. Super cold and windy during our stay (sub zero and 20 mph winds right off the river), but the house stayed warm. Would stay again.

  • Great place near Mississippi river and close to ski resort

    Lionel2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Three friends and I decided we wanted to go skiing for New Year’s Eve and New Years. This place is only about 25 minutes from chestnut mountain and is a great deal. Beautiful bathroom and lots of room in the living room to hangout and play games. We brought some games with us, but this place also had some really fun games already there. James was always quick to respond when we had questions. Perfect place to stay for me and my friends.

    Bryan2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and clean place. Our check -in process was smooth. Kitchen had everything we needed to make food. Overall we had a great stay!

    Karolina2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • I loved this space! It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, and the kitchen was wonderful – I loved the high counter space with plenty of room to spread out. Even more, I loved the bathroom - it looked like all new things ( shower stall, toilet and sink), and they had some really cool bath towels! The house was just a generic old house on the outside, with a cool wood railing at the entrance, but inside was very nice. It was a great mixture of "really old house" and very "modern" things. The kitchen had everything you would need, minus the oven, and the bedrooms were a good size. Everything was very clean! For some reason, the Internet went out on us after a few hours, but James was very fast to respond and we took care of it within 15 minutes. Just remember, this is on the second floor of an old house, and the staircase up was narrow and twisty. No problem for me, but just keep that in mind when considering this place. Overall, I was extremely happy with my stay!

    Leslie2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Blu Canopy exceeded my expectations! I was continuously and pleasantly surprised by the level of thoughtfulness with amenities in every room! James goes above and beyond to make sure guests have a comfortable stay and want for nothing. The bathroom design was wonderful! Very comfortable beds and bedding as well. This was my first air bnb experience, and I never want to stay in a hotel again. So nice to have the space and homeyness of an entire apartment in a real neighborhood, with a lovely fenced-in backyard with patio and firepit. James was willing to allow early check-in to drop off my friend's dog, which we didn't end up bringing, but his flexibility was really appreciated. James is the best! I highly recommend Blu Canopy- great value!

With Poopy's Pub only 5 miles away and charming Galena, IL a quick 35 miles north, you'll be able to satisfy your weekend getaway experience! The lower level has another bathroom and full-sized bed for use with parties of five (5) guests or more. The west-facing main level window makes for inspiring breakfast and full color evenings!
The immediate neighborhood is quiet and friendly. We typically take walks with our dog when visiting the area and rarely encounter more than ten cars on the route. There is a nice pub and grill located directly to the east of our property within 5 minutes walking distance.
  • Great place!

  • Josh & Katies place right off the Mississippi River was more than we expected. The pictures do not do this place justice. The view from the dining room is beautiful, and the location is perfect. The place was spotless, and a lot larger than anticipated. The included oven, microwave and fridge made staying here much more affordable to be able to cook homemade meals. However, the local restaurants and pubs provided excellent food/drinks as well. I will definitely be staying here again closer to the summertime to enjoy the river. I'm so happy we found this place, I cannot recommend enough!

    Mike2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Jocelyn for our anniversary weekend trip. We were looking for lodging that was quaint, unique, and not Galena prices, though we intended to spend our time in Galena. When we checked in we were greeted so warmly by Jocelyn's husband, and really made to feel welcome! In our room, they had placed a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a personalized, handwritten note congratulating us on our anniversary, and had a bottle of wine chilling for us. It was incredibly thoughtful, and a very touching gesture. Our room was cute and served our needs well for our time there. We will stay again if and when we are back in Galena!

  • Connie’s place was wonderful! A quiet respite from city life with lovely views of the rolling hills. A quick drive to the state park to hike and watch the beautiful sunsets. Connie left us wonderful local homemade bread, farm fresh eggs, and bacon for a delicious breakfast along with a great assortment of K-cups. We had a great stay and highly recommend Connie’s place!

    Caryn2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Connie’s place was perfect for our weekend country getaway. It’s quiet and nestled off a dirt road, but only a few minutes drive from a two little towns. Her house came with lots of thoughtful touches including fresh bread and local eggs for breakfast. They were FANTASTIC. highly recommend.

    Sadie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Connie’s place was perfectly located between Savanna and Mt. Carroll and was just the type of escape I had had in mind. The house was clean and had many thoughtful touches. Connie was also very helpful and communicative and I would heartily recommend her house!

    Patrick2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderfully equipped and convenient spot. The house is well stocked with everything you could need to make it a home away from home for a few days or a week! Connie is a gracious and welcoming host who left us farm fresh bacon and eggs, a fresh loaf of wonderful bread from a nearby baker, lovely muffins and her homemade grape jelly! You will enjoy this sweet little place I'm sure. Connie has thought of everything and goes out of her way to accommodate special requests.

    Barbara2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a treasure. In the middle of farmland but close to restaurants, hiking and touring. The house is charming and Connie was really great to work with. She provided farm fresh eggs, locally baked bread and other treats. Fire pit in yard...such a treat.

    Brian2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super quiet location, yet convenient to both of the towns of Savanna and Mt. Carroll. The breakfast provided was quite good!

    Rodney2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Connie's place is cozy and inviting. She leaves a little something for breakfast that she gets locally. It's a great touch. The home itself is just beautiful and nestled on a nice little piece of Illinois.

The Ecology Inn is right in the heart of historic downtown Savanna, IL. A friendly and charming, quiet river town built on the bluffs along the Mighty Mississippi River. Shop, dine, explore nature and relax with 2 decks overlooking the River.
Located above the Savanna Marketplace on Main Street. The Radke Room has a Queen size bed and faces Main Street. It shares a bathroom with 2 other rooms. It is one of 4 private rooms in a spacious shared flat dwelling. It shares a living room, full kitchen and dining area. There are two shared Decks overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River and a courtyard space in back.
The Inn is right in the heart of historic downtown Savanna. Walking distance to bars, shops, museums and restaurants. We are located right across the river from the island town of Subula, Ia., Just blocks from the start of the Great River Bike Trail and just a couple miles from the Mississippi Palisades State Park. The Savanna Marketplace located on the street level of the building, offers a full menu of Organic coffee, espresso and tea drinks and a modern general store to purchase locally designed gifts.
  • The Ecology Inn is very nice! We had to stay in Radke room, but it might have been not ready. Luckily Jube works in the shop below the Inn, so we reached him straight away and he changed our room to a clean and ready one (hooray!). The Inn is like in the description, we liked the overall vibe. The cure of the details and the design of the whole place are amazing! The only thing is the bathroom door: the bathroom is shared with other guests, but there was no way to lock the door (as of our visit)! We just used the "do not disturb" sign that was on our door, and that was sufficient. It needs a lock though! Savanna is a little, incredibly nice town. Totally suggested for a stay overnight to break a road trip or to get some rest. There's a nice diner/coffee place (beside Jube's shop) not more than 500m from the Inn, a shop and other dining places 5 minutes away walking, and it's not far from the castle. There's plenty of space for the car behind the Inn, and it's not far away from Palisade park or from the cycling lane going south. Definitely a suggested visit!

  • This property has everything you need: large spaces for family to gather, four bedrooms (with firm mattresses), large basement with laundry, off street parking, screened porches, bathrooms on each floor, and easy access to the city center. If you are planning a trip to Savanna and need four bedrooms, plenty of room for people to gather, and a kitchen with everything you would expect at home, this is your place. And the price is very reasonable. You will also find your host very communicative and thoughtful. We will definitely stay here again.

  • Emmanuel's house is a wonderful spot for a family getaway! We spent a weekend in Galena and stayed here and could not have been happier! It is a great location, the home was clean and had everything you needed. Emmanuel was great with communication, always available and willing to help out should you have any questions. We LOVED that we were able to bring our dogs as that is usually the main reason we cannot all go on a vacation together since we always watch each others pets for them. We will definitely be back!!

  • On our nearly midnight arrival, we were very surprised at what we found as our room. We found a complete, spacious and well-equipped apartment. Our room was well indicated and very nice. The next morning, we discovered the nice decks with view on the Mississippi river. A pity we didn’t have time to enjoy this BnB a bit longer. Also that morning, we found out that we were not alone although we had that impression when booking. This Info could have been more explicitly communicated as not to be too surprised when meeting the other couple. Communication with the owner was quick and to the point.

  • The cabins are great. Charming inside and out, well outfitted and comfortable in a good location. Waking down from the cabins to the Mississippi River in the morning is a very pleasant way to start the day, and watching the sun set over the river, also pleasant. We enjoyed our stay and weren’t bothered by the sounds of the trains that others have mentioned. It was part of the experience and didn’t continue overnight.

  • Very friendly hosts. We really enjoyed our stay. This was exactly what we were looking for; a cabin, yet comfortable enough to accommodate a family with 2 little boys in cold weather. The heat worked very well on a very cold October night. The cabins are very close to Mississippi Palisades and only about 35 min south of Galena. The cabins were very clean the loft was very comfortable. The direct tv was an added bonus. The kitchenette area includes a stove and refrigerator. They also have bbq grills and Fire pits. Did I mention dog friendly? I really hope we make it back here again next year.

    Daniel2019-10-14T00:00:00Z

  • Nancy and Matt were there to meet us when we drove up! We had a pleasant conversation, and they offerred reccommendations to places to eat and visit during our stay. There was a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us. The cabin had a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. A family of White tail deer greeted us as we drove up and eagles flew overhead the next morning. Comfortable and cozy inside of this gorgeous space. Clean, nice wrap around porch with chairs to watch the view. You will not go wrong here. Loved it!!

    Megan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot! A little loud as it’s near some train tracks but I found that to be quite relaxing

    Kyle2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Nancy and Matt's cabin. It was cozy and had everything we needed including a bottle of wine to welcome us. We had a view of the river through the trees and saw a few bald eagles. As others have commented, the trains are noisy over night, but it didn't bother us because we were exhausted from an afternoon spent hiking. It was a lovely stay and we're looking forward to returning.

    Sarah2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy and Matt's cabins are great if you plan on hiking or climbing in the Mississippi Palisades State Park. They were very responsive when we had questions and the check in process was a breeze. Be prepared for lots of trains going by throughout the day and night. Obviously, the Mississippi River is an important transportation artery in our country and the main highway and railroad along the Mississippi River is just below the cabin. Other than that, everything was great.

  • Wonderful experience - cabin was as-advertised: warm and welcoming space, clean, and amenities were great (complimentary bottle of wine)! Good food in town (Nancy gave us great recommendations), and a short drive in. All in all, a great experience. Definitely will stay again.

  • Nancy and Matt were super nice and friendly. One of the greatest host I have seen. The place was clean and comfortable. Great location even though it was little bit far from Galena but there were lots of beautiful scenery places around. We would definitely go back

  • Nancy and Matt will greet you and welcome you to their beautiful cabins. Cabin 6 was clean, inviting, and very relaxing. We enjoyed hiking at the state park, walking around town and making the short drive to Galena. We had a wonderful weekend!
