Vacation Rentals in Moretonhampstead

Just booked in Moretonhampstead

One of a small group of wooden lodges built in a quiet valley on the banks of the river Teign in Dartmoor National park. Woodland walks from the doorstep. Wild birds and flowers, deer, fishing (day/week permit) starry skies. Small play area. The lodge is warm and cosy and well equipped for up to 5 people maximum. A fast road network only 10 mins away gives an easy journey and access to the beaches in South Devon, North Cornwall and the south west of England.
The only sound at Mole End is the river which runs behind the cabin. Fallow deer are spotted regularly from the windows, and kingfishers and dippers are often seen on the riverbank. With very little light pollution, the stars at night are fantastic. Four steps lead up to a porched entrance which opens into a small hallway with coat hanging space. The living room is bright and spacious with French doors which open onto a large, south west facing, covered veranda where one can enjoy the sun, and make use of the gas barbecue. The living room with high pitched ceiling, has ample comfortable seating and a dining area. There is a coal effect electric heater for instant warmth and night storage heaters for background heat. The lodge heats up and retains it's warmth, so it is very cosy. There is a television, DVD player, CD player and MP3 docking station. Also a selection of books and games for anyone to enjoy. For children there is a toy box and “ wet weather box” for those who want to be creative. The well equipped kitchen opens sociably off the living room, with electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, bread machine, kettle and toaster. The double bedroom which overlooks the river is at the rear of the lodge. It has generous storage and a wall mounted heater. Please note that bed linen is not supplied but there are duvets, rugs and pillows on all the beds. The bathroom also has river views , a full sized bath with integral shower, wash basin, w.c. , heated towel rail, immersion heater and washer/tumble dryer. Upstairs from the gallery there is a high view of the forest, where deer can often be seen. Here there is a cabin bed to curl up with a book but which can be used for a 5th guest. The twin room under the eaves looks out to the river. It has ample storage and an electric wall heater.
Many activities are available nearby; walking, riding, cycling, golf, fishing. Permits for fishing on the Upper Teign , which is a "catch and return" river can be bought locally. There are wonderful country pubs and restaurants nearby, with the pub at Fingle Bridge along the bridle path by the river.
  • Staying at Mole End was so amazing! From the booking to the end Joy was very helpful, informative and such a lovely person. The location is secluded which makes it all the more amazing. We were 3 adults and 2 children (9 mo and 2 years). We all loved the onsite swing and slide, the walks (esp to Fingle Bridge) and even driving around the narrow roads added to the charm. It's really well located to all the sites and good access to the main roads to Exeter and Torquay. This will now be a regular family trip!

  • Great stay! very comfortable with great views and nice walks would be very happy to stay again!

  • Mole End is a very special and wonderful place, we are so happy we were able to spend a part of our holiday in this beautiful home away from home. Joy has thought of everything that could make staying there even more comfortable and this is clear too in all her communication. Thank you Joy!

    Esther2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • What's not to love about this place? Joy has really made the lodge beautiful! We didn't want to leave! We spent half our time in the lodge as it was so cosy and enabled us to have some quality family time. Such an amazing find, would recommend to everyone!

    Kayleigh2017-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I absolutely loved our trip to Mole End. We packed a lot into each day and made the most of the stunning scenery surrounding us. We were overly impressed with the home - it looked even better than the pictures, and the icing on the cake for us were the draws full of games. Turns out my chess skills are better than I first thought! Joy was fab, keeping us fully informed at all times and giving us tips on where to walk/visit/eat. We will definitely come back and I highly recommend this beautiful, peaceful area.

    Pippa2016-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • My parents visited this time after our lovely experience there and absolutely loved it. Thank you Joy once again!

    Jemma2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful wooden lodge set in an extremely rural location. It's far enough away from the rat race, but not too far that you can't drive to the south coast (roughly 30-40 minute drive). The lodges are spaced extremely far apart, so you've got plenty of privacy. The rear bedrooms back onto the river. Listening to running water sounds idillic when lying in bed. You probably will struggle with phone signal, but the lodge has wifi so you can access (Hidden by Airbnb) or keep in contact with the outside world (if you wish to) Great communication with the owner Joy prior to our stay - Highly recommended

  • Very comfortable apartment in a quiet location, yet very close to local shops and restaurants. Berto's was our favourite restaurant - quirky, friendly, affordable and exceptionally tasty pizzas! Julie was very helpful leading up to our stay and made us very welcome. Excellent location for exploring Dartmoor and Devon in general.

    Sue2017-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in the dartmoor nationalpark. It was perfect. Everything.

    Melanie2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • The Hide was ideal for our needs. More spacious than it looks in the pictures and had everything we needed. Parking is very tight but great to have. Julie thought of everything. Our little girl loved the little garden too. Would recommend it and would stay again if we were in the area. Thank you Julie

    Jen2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend to others looking for somewhere clean, well equipped and comfortable with great access to Dartmoor. The apartment is ideal for a couple or small family. The kitchen is well equipped making the option of staying in and doing your own thing appealing, although the town does have a number of places to eat. Communication with the host was good with clear instructions and the 'welcome pack' on arrival was a really thoughtful touch. If we're in the area again we'd definitely try and stay here.

    Finn2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Bernie is a very generous and welcoming host. Real coffee and tea and a tray of snacks was provided. Chatting with him in his sitting room with the dogs lounging around is lovely. The bedroom is clean, tidy, well furnished and with new towels and bedding. The bed is very comfortable. The house is tucked away along a quiet alley so it is private and peaceful. The kitchen is a very interesting and airy room with a high ceiling and a mezzanine above. We will definitely stay again if we are in Moretonhampstead again.

The Gallery Flat is a 2-bedroom self-catering apartment situated in the centre of Moretonhampstead. Sleeping up to 4 people, the flat offers modern comfortable accommodation on the upper 2 floors of a late 16th century town house.
The Gallery Flat is a 2-bedroom self-catering apartment situated in the centre of Moretonhampstead, a small moorland town in the North-East sector of Dartmoor National Park. Sleeping up to 4 people, the flat offers modern comfortable accommodation on the upper two floors of a late 16th century town house, above a small art gallery at street level, and has its own separate entrance. The flat comprises, on the first floor, a living room with a dining area, a galley kitchen and a bathroom, and on the second floor, a double bedroom (with a standard queen-size bed), a twin bedroom (with two single beds) and a small seating area. Please note that the flat is part of an old building, and there’s barely a right-angle in the whole place. No two rooms are at the same level; there are a number of single and double steps throughout the property, and the stairs to the bedrooms are quite narrow and steep. The result is a quirky and unusual flat with great charm, but it is with regret that we have to say that it is NOT suitable for very young children or people with limited mobility. The building has recently been completely refurbished, and is newly available for lettings since Spring 2015.
Moretonhampstead, the 'Gateway to the Moor', is an ancient market town in the North-East sector of Dartmoor National Park. Although it’s a small town – quiet at night – there’s a lot going on. The town has a variety of shops and services, and in particular, there’s a Co-op supermarket, four pubs – all serving food – and two cafes all within about a hundred metres of the flat.
  • We had a lovely stay at Moretonhamstead. Chris was there to meet us and show us through the beautifully appointed and quirky apartment. He provided a parking pass and gave us great ideas on what to do and where to eat. The welcome cream tea was a nice touch. It was an ideal location to explore lovely Dartmoor and the surrounding towns. There were many local dining options and some shops for supplies if eating in. We would highly recommend it.

    John2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Wie enjoyed our stay. It' s a well furbished, modern and clean flat with outstanding atmosphere. Christopher is a great host, pubs and a coop store nearby. All in, a recommendation!

    Christian2015-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely flat in the heart of Moretonhampsted. Chris was really accommodating, especially as we were coming quite late after work and his gallery below is well worth a visit. The flat is right in the centre of the town and Moreton really is the 'gateway to the moors'. Would really recommend this to anyone and will probably go back myself!

    Katie2015-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Chris was away and organised his friend to show us the place and provided welcoming scones jam and clotted cream! We were located right in the centre of town- a great location- facilities in the unit were great, very quirky. The low roof height could be tricky for really tall visitors - was fine for us. The town was fascinating to get the feel of over 4 days and it was a good base for both walking on the surrounding moors and touring further west to Cornwall over a couple of days. The available maps for local walkin in Devon was excellent and really appreciated.

    Sue2015-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time - a great flat in an excellent location.

    Julia2015-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The whole process was really straightforward and the hosts were great. Meeting to check in was easy and we met Sue in the gallery downstairs from the flat. The flat was great, plenty of room for a family of four. Complimentary pancakes and scones was a lovely treat. Also, the flat is fully equipped, with some handy toiletries and kitchen ingredients in the cupboards. The is a great selection of books (including lots on local walks), DVDs and games (handy for rainy days!). The location was good for access to Dartmoor with Haytor and Castle Drogo both being very close. The village itself has plenty of facilities and we checked out the local pizzeria as recommended by our host - we can definitely say it was worth the visit!

    Linda2016-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place! Very clean and homely

    clare2017-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful apartment right in the centre of the village with everything within easy walking distance. The apartment has all the facilities and euipment needed to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. That layout is tight and people who struggle with steep stairs may find it difficult. Chris was overseas when we arrived but he had arranged for a friend to greet us and explain everything.

Two beautiful double rooms with ensuite bathrooms in 18th century townhouse with pretty cottage garden, in the centre of Moretonhampstead on Dartmoor. Prices include English breakfast. Moretonhampstead is a bustling, busy little town with plenty of nice places to eat and drink and an art gallery, sports centre and a very friendly community. With the rugged beauty of Dartmoor to explore and many outdoor activities, there is plenty to do for walkers, golfers, bikers, climbers, horse riders....
The Garden Room on the first floor, has a veranda overlooking the pretty cottage garden.
Dartmoor is a wild area of unique natural beauty and a National Park. Moretonhampstead is one of 8 eight small towns within the National Park and is surrounded by breathtaking views and stunning countryside. The town is a wonderful base for exploring Dartmoor and all its glorious villages and picture-perfect pubs. Devon is also cream tea central, so finding a favourite takes a lot of delicious research. Good food is generally pretty high on our agenda so eat local wherever possible. And whether you come for the wild flowers in spring, anything outdoors in the long days of summer, the dazzling colours of autumn, or simply to visit friends and relatives for a short winter break, there is always something special to do.
  • A really very welcoming host and breakfast was superb. A great base to explore Dartmoor from. Thank you Victoria.

    Lucienne2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Victoria provided a lovely cosy room with a balcony and garden access along with a tremendous breakfast in the true B&B tradition. Her house is well located in the centre of the village but very quiet. Victoria herself is well travelled and has lived and visited many places including Australia. So we had enjoyable discussions and shared experiences of our hometown and also heard of other places we have yet to visit. Victoria is knowledgeable about many things and gave us some good tips as well as enjoyable chats about home, family and life. If you want a true English village B&B with a lovely experienced host this is the place to stay.

Helemoor is a beautiful place to come and get away from the hussel & bussel of every day live. The lodge is set in 4 acres of secluded ground with three decorative ponds - a perfect place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside undisturbed. It is a great place to spot wildlife, with the ponds abundant with fish and a bird hide To sit and watch the birds. Just a 10 minute walk away, is the town of Moretonhampstead - the gateway to the Moor and part of Dartmoor National Park.
Helemoor is ideal for couples, for a romantic break or for families to come and enjoy the walks or cycle routes close by.
Dartmoor is world renowned for its legends, Tor's and stunning scenery. It is full of archeological wonders, such as Neolithic round houses, Celtic crosses and Wistmans' woods. This is just a fraction of what Dartmoor has to offer.
  • This lovely and cosy lodge is in a great location inside Dartmoor National Park so a great place for walking trails and scenic nature. Greatly equipped for cooking and baking and good board games for a quiet night in. Walking distance from local amenities. Definitely a recommended place.

Three bedrooms in a beautiful 200 year old granite house. Use of lounge and kitchen. Amazing surrounding land strewn with granite boulders. Views over the Teign valley and across to Exmoor. Lovely local walks.
Farmhouse set in magnificent landscape. On the edge of the Teign gorge with its 4500 acres of woodland to walk in. Use of the house is shared as we have our office/ studio in the building. The third bed is a sofa bed with futon mattress- so not as luxurious as the pocket-sprung mattresses of the other two!
Lovely walks in all directions. Good eateries in Chagford and Moretonhampstead.
  • We had a fantastic stay at Emma's farmhouse in Dartmoor. It was a perfect hidden getaway. They were great hosts full of useful tips. The surroundings were beautiful stuffed full of wildlife and only a short drive to some beautiful villages. It is a quaint cosy taste of real Devon. We are already planning our next trip back!

    Adam2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely house and Emma and Graham were really helpful and accommodating. The location was really quiet and we enjoyed the simple life at the farm. It's useful to have the Wifi because there's little mobile reception in Dartmoor. We enjoyed some local walks and bike rides but a car is essential for getting a full Dartmoor experience. There's a small Coop in Moretonhampstead.

  • This accomodation is a wonderful and natural place. The lovely garden, the old cottage and the great landscapes are a wonderful surrounding to have a great time. if you want to do a holiday trip into the wild nature, this is the perfect place to stay. If you want to visit some places around, have a trip to the coast oder even go to the City, you should know that it takes some time to get there. but even in that ways you will find nature and lovley villages. very well communication with Emma, a tidy cottage. we recommend this "home" for staying in Dartmoore!

    Felix2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We can't thank Emma and Graeme enough for such a lovely break in their beautiful home. The farmhouse is really great - lovely big kitchen and a really comfortable king sized bed! The garden is incredibly beautiful and they have sheep and horses on the land to the great delight of our 15 month old son who we took on a horse and cart ride which was such fun. Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and hospitable - for example, on the first night we came down to a complementary bowl of freshly picked salad including edible flowers, which was delicious!!! Also they were so accommodating of our toddler which was very kind. Highly recommended and we hope to visit again.

  • If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. A beautiful farmhouse in idyllic setting, looked after by fab hosts Emma and Graeme. We stayed for just two nights, but we would've stayed longer if we had time. Thanks for a lovely stay.

    Rob2016-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Willingstone Farm is not on the beaten track; be prepared for narrow lanes and surprises around the next corner. But once at the remarkable 'Wishing' (Willing) Stones, the full delight of the location opens up, a miniature pastoral symphony! Not for you if you are allergic to isolation or tranquility. There are a plethora of beautiful walks, interesting sites and a variety of different activities within easy distance. I particularly enjoyed the Teign Gorge with its mature woodlands. Emma and Graeme were very helpful hosts and willingly adapted the ground floor accommodation to suit our elderly, 96-year old father, who was unable to access the sleeping and shower facilities upstairs. The local bird-life is prolific and was an endless source of delight to us. As Emma cautions, it is a working farm and they need access to their office and studio in the house. This was not a difficulty to us. Moretonhampstead, a 15 minute drive away, is an attractive market town with several small, high quality food shops plus a Coop. If you give yourself more than a couple of days, the peace of the place will unwind you. Thoroughly recommended to all who love nature.

  • Emma and Graham are lovely friendly hosts, and their farmhouse and garden are lovely. It is and incredibly peaceful and relaxing place to stay and we particularly loved the fact there was a great wood burner we could use in the living room and we could also buy fresh veg from their garden. Our son also loved he is stay on the farm and being close to the animals. The house is not in walking distance from any town or village which we did not quite appreciate until we got there, so as long as you are not expecting that, I would recommend the farmhouse to anyone wanting to get away from it all!

Beautifully restored 400 year old listed character cottage finished to the highest standards. Exposed beams, two inglenook granite fireplaces one with a wood burner. Moretonhampstead has lots of history and lots of little shops and restaurants.
Tilley's cottage is a great central location in Devon to explore but come back to a lovely warm, friendly cottage which has been fitted out with total comfort in mind. Nikki is very happy to write lengthy emails of suggestions to fit in with your interests, budget and children's ages. You won't need to pack the car with anything other than your clothes as Moreton has all you could need and plenty of places to chose to eat out as well. it is a very friendly little town and many people have commented in the visitors book how chatty local people are. There is a tourist information centre who can supply free maps and brochures about everything and anything.
I love Moreton because though very small it has everything from a great deli and places to eat and buy local carrots to local pottery!
  • Our time in Nikki's accommodation in Moretonhampstead worked very well for us - no problems whatsoever. It is an old cottage that has been sympathetically and successfully modernised. The cottage is amazingly conveniently located in the centre of the small town.

    Jack2016-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage right in the heart of Moreton. Perfect for our requirements of attending a large family celebration in the town. Nikki was very helpful before our visit and we had no need to contact her during our stay.

    Rachel2016-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Tilley's cottage is the perfect base to explore Dartmoor, with an ideal location in the beautiful little village of Moretonhampstead. The cottage is superb, full of character with everything you can possibly need. Very comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen and modern bathrooms with the added bonus of a huge fireplace. The butchen/deli is literally next door, with the Co-op accross the road and a few other little shops nearby. We went out for food twice, to The Horse first and then The White Hart, both a short stroll away and offering high quality food. The walks we went on were only a short drive away, which made our week-end even better. Thanks for everything Nikki, would definitely come back!

    Marion2017-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay! So comfortable, so welcoming. We were even greeted with a delicious cream tea! The cottage was delightfully furnished, as lovely as advertised. When we had a question about the heating system, Nikki was very responsive. The grocery store, deli, greengrocer, and post office are all just steps outside the front door. I (and my travel companions) would happily return in future.

    Eleanor2016-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous cottage, and lovely village. The Horse pub down the road is particularly lovely and so handy having a Spar across the road! Croissants for breakfast every morning! Thank you Nikki!

    Kathryn2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very comfortable and easily accommodated 6 adults. The kitchen had every gadget and utensil you could possibly need. Wifi was fast.We arrived to a plate of scones and clotted cream which was a lovely gesture. Nikki was easy to contact and prompt with replies to queries. The location was great with easy access to beautiful walks over the moors. For a small town there are plenty of pubs to choose from for either and evening meal or drink. I will definitely be booking this cottage again,

    Fran2016-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect cottage for a perfect little getaway. The place itself was warm, welcoming and cosy, which fitted everything we were looking for for a quiet girls weekend away. Nikki was brilliant in providing us with all the information we needed prior to our visit there, and even on arrival, we had been left with all the information needed. The scones on arrival were also a nice touch. Would definitely recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.

    Umisha2015-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely, characterful, cottage in the heart of Dartmoor. We loved the wood burner, open plan lounge/eating/kitchen area and the spacious double bedrooms. Nikki was a perfect host- keeping us informed and in touch. She was so lovely about us leaving some things behind and even sent them back to us at no cost, very kind. I would just say though that the cottage is located on the high street of Moretonhampsted- a lovely village but it is fairly busy and bustling. So expect people and cars to be just outside the windows of the front side of the house sometimes. It wasn't a problem as such just a little noisy at times. On the plus side, very handy to be close to the Co-op opposite and nice to be able to step outside and wander around Moretonhampsted. You are still very close to Dartmoor, able to be walking through fields within 5 mins. We loved our trips out to Haytor and Fingle Bridge.

  • Lovely location and view out to the fields. Particularly enjoyed watching the birds! Sal and Andy we're great hosts.

  • Sal and Andy were extremely welcoming, a home away from home. The location was breathtaking, English countryside at its best. And the chickens were an absolute delight, so friendly and entertaining. We would definitely come back and highly recommend staying at the Little Hazelcott.

    Taisir2016-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Little Hazelcott perfectly met our needs, it was homely, comfortable, peaceful, clean and warm. Andy met us and made sure we were able to park our camper van and host Sal had left a cream tea and a bottle of wine in the fridge to welcome us. The cottage had quick WiFi which helped us as we had some business to do during our stay and the surrounding area is beautiful, ideal for walking and exploring Dartmoor

  • This is a really nice, comfortable, well equipped cottage. It is so quiet and peaceful, and so good to be away from the harsh street lights that so often intrude upon ones' nights! Manaton is a pretty, interesting village with plenty of history and intrigue! The countryside around here is stunning. Sal and Andy were very warm and friendly and our communication with them has been excellent. Highly recommended.

  • We feel very lucky to have found little hazelcott . Sal and Andy were very welcoming. The annexe was peaceful, well equipped and everything we needed for an excellent holiday. The location is fabulous, the weather was great and sitting on the bench watching the sunset and wildlife always made the perfect end to perfect dartmoor days. We would highly recommend. Thanks Sal and Andy

  • We had a very relaxing stay at Brook Lodge. A warm welcome from Alison and Pamela. The Lodge was spotlessly clean and had every facility one could think of. It’s an excellent location for exploring Dartmoor and only about 20 mins from Exeter. I’m sure we’ll be back!

  • What a perfect getaway in an idyllic location. Brook Lodge has all the amenities that you need and is a perfect base for exploring Dartmoor. Alison and Pam welcomed us warmly and were very accommodating. I would highly recommend!

  • A lovely lodge in a beautiful setting deeply surrounded by nature. The lodge is spacious, clean, private and well equipped. Location was secluded and quiet. A perfect place to relax. Alison is friendly and helpful. The only thing to be aware of is that there is no phone signal and that the wi-fi is unreliable.

    Kristin2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • It was our second stay at this location and the first in Brook Lodge. That alone will tell you we like her location and style. The location next to the stream with its tumbling water in the woods is terrific. Recommended.

    Paul2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Brook Lodge - Snaresbrook - between Doccombe and Dunsford on the edge of Dartmoor is, quite simply, perfect. Set in this idyllic part of the south-west, it's tucked away, secluded, on the edge of the Moor and is perfect as a base for exploring it. Though secluded and away from it all in acres of woodland, the lovely nearest villages of Doccombe, Dunsford, and Moretonhampstead aren't too far away and can be driven to. Brook Lodge is perfectly situated to access and enjoy the Moor and the Devon coast is only an hour away. We spent two nights here and will definitely be coming back. Alison and Pam are the perfect hosts and made us feel very welcomed and at home. Can't praise them and Snaresbrook enough!

    Terry2017-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely one of our best air bnb experiences! Immaculate, very warm, a comfortable bed, amazing open plan kitchen and living room. The location is breathtaking - set back from the road in seven acres of woodland. Going to sleep with the sound of a stream outside the window was the highlight of our trip. The space is bigger than it looks in the photos, and the living room has large windows on three sides. It rained for most of our weekend, and we spent all of Sunday chilling out, enjoying the space and watching the rain fall over the garden. It felt very private, and very quiet. There was almost no noise from the road below. There is a great covered area out at the front with a table and chairs to sit and have a meal. The kitchen is lovely, and there is a TV and dvd player for evenings in. Alison and her Mum were very welcoming and brilliant on communication (going out of their way to help us extend our trip when we decided two nights definitely wasn't long enough to enjoy the area). There was even a cake on the table when we arrived. It is around 10 minutes drive from the town of Moreton Hampstead with pubs and a co-op, twenty minutes from Hound Tor and the moor, and twenty minutes from Exeter. Beautiful walks from the door step.

  • The lodge was the perfect getaway at New Years. The garden and surrounding land was the best thing to wake up to each morning. • The Woodside was the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy getting back to nature. It's a great little place with all you could ask for. There no phone signal at all but wifi was there everyday for what we needed it for. Alison was a super host and her and Pam (and Alfie the dog) made us feel very welcome. The decilious hand made cake on arrival was also lovely.

  • Alison's place is as described on Airbnb. Well located, comfy, cosy, well equipped, sweet, clean. A perfect getaway!

  • This is a lovely cottage in a small group tucked away just off the road. Very little road noise at all. Beautiful views outwards to the stream and also up the hill. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay (and the lemon cake, thanks). There was milk in the fridge when we arrived, which was handy. The kitchen was very well equipped. If you stay here and want a morning shower, remember to switch on the immersion heater before you go to bed! Very limited internet availability while we were there and no mobile signal. If that's ok with you, we have no hesitation in recommending.

    Paul2017-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Woodside was a fantastic place to stay, Alison offered great directions to the property and we found them clear and simple to follow even though we were driving down the country lanes long after dark. The location is beautiful and Alison has put great thought and care into the place. The internet was temperamental at times, but it was a nice escape for us. The pictures are very accurate - thank you!

    Alison2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay! The 'cottage' was just perfect - just as described and very clean and well-equipped. We found it to be a great base for our stay (we have a car) and very cosy :-) The best bits were the cake(!) and when Pam bought Alfie the dog over for us to fuss over. A lovely anniversary, spent in a lovely place and property. Thanks so much :-)

  • Booked this cottage studio for a weekend retreat for my Wife's Birthday, was set in beautiful woodlands within a short distance to the river Teign, and some easy walking routes. Good country pubs all around too which is always a bonus

  • Loved the location, very scenic. The rooms felt very homely and having an enclosed garden space was great for letting our dog out first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I hope we can stay again sometime. I agree with one of the other reviews though, quite a squeaky bed even just when turning over!!

    Karen2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a lovely two nights at Alison's little escape in Dartmoor. Directions and arrival was perfectly smooth (Alison was unavailable at our arrival time so left the keys in an easy to find location). When we arrived there was a candle lit, cookies on the table, and biscuits for the dog, too! The place is small but perfectly sufficient, and is laid out in such a way as to maximise the space. Everything was immaculately clean. The sitting area is cosy and comfy - we enjoyed having the DVD player so we could curl up and watch movies on these dark winter evenings! The kitchen doesn't have an oven but we knew that ahead of time so came prepared. There's plenty of storage in the kitchen area to keep groceries and such. The bed is comfortable (though a little squeaky for you rambunctious lovers out there!). We imagine this would be an amazing spot in the summer because the outdoor area is positively lovely - enclosed and private with lots of plant life and a big picnic table for dining al fresco. Would be a great spot for a BBQ (though we didn't see a BBQ out there so not sure if this is an option). We loved that it was dog friendly and tucked away in the woods. It's very close to walks near Haytor, Hound tor, Castle Drogo, and Grimspound. Really the ideal escape for couples who like walking. I should also add that when we ran short of a couple essentials (loo paper, dish soap), Alison was very responsive with bringing supplies. Overall, great place and great value. We'd definitely stay again!

    Monica2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy studio in a very peaceful setting. Lovely to walk around the surrounding woodland. Was a bit of a challenge to find initially, as we arrived in the dark(!), but the directions we were sent beforehand were really useful. Thank you for a delightful stay!

  • Anna gave me perfect instructions to find her house and I was warmly welcomed by her and her son. The house is lovely and clean with beautiful gardens. Their hospitality was over and above any other Airbnb I've visited, with breakfast offered and hairdryer and tea and kettle in the ensuite bedroom; as well as access to their kitchen facilities.

  • Anna was a great host, we had a very pleasant stay for 2 nights, the room was spacious clean and quite relaxing. the B&B is in a beautiful setting indeed, it is located on the edge of the hamlet of Doccombe in the heart of the National park. it is 2 miles east of Moretonhampstead where there are loads of places for a decent supper. We were very lucky to look out on a snow covered landscape from our fairly heavily laden breakfast table. Good broadband, breakfast, showers facilities etc. and great value for a 2 night stay. great base yourself for wandering the national park with easy access to Chagford, Hay Tor, Exeter and Okehampton. Anna is also fairly knowledgeable on local walks, the trio of Kennick, Trenchford and Tottisford Resevoirs offer great walking opportunities.

Myself and my dog couldn't wait to explore. It's such a peaceful place with the sounds of the nearby river and birds. You can't help but relax. Inside the lodge is clean and warm. The kitchen very well equipped and even a dishwasher. We were sad to leave and definitely plan to return. I highly recommend.

  • Myself and a friend have just enjoyed a long weekend at this Lodge and would both totally recommend it. It is set in beautiful countryside. We very much enjoyed sitting out on the spacious terrace taking in the view. The accommodation itself is spacious and very clean and comfortable. It has all the amenities you could want and/or need including a lovely cosy fire. We visited a lot of nearby villages during our stay. Fingle Bridge Inn is highly recommended for good food and has an amazing riverside setting. South Zeal is nearby and has two great pubs that we can highly recommend. Hannah, our host at the Lodge, was very friendly and helpful - quick to reply to messages and happy to recommend local places to visit. We have stayed in many self catering lodges, apartments etc and this was, in our opinion, a cut above. We are already planning our next stay. Thank you Hannah for a lovely break.

  • Wonderful property in a beautiful setting. Some fantastic walks right on your doorstep. Really well equipped, with everything you or your children may need. Prompt contact from Hannah, with precise instructions, and most importantly left us to our own devices. The only drawback was the narrowness of the lanes to get around the local villages. However, a small price to pay for such a beautiful location
